Peek inside my fridge
You're curious, right? What does a health coach's fridge look like? Here it is! My actual fridge after a grocery trip. These are my favorite things to stock up on in the summer when the local produce is fresh and beautiful. Let's take a tour...
On the top shelf, I keep drinks and greens for easy access. The two most important things you can do for your health are drink more water and eat more greens. So, put those babies on the top shelf where you can see them. I'll break down a few of my favorite foods and how I use them.
Coconut water is really good for hydrating. It has natural electrolytes and no added sugar (unlike so-called energy drinks). I drink it when I'm feeling dehydrated.
I put coconut milk in my smoothies to make them extra creamy and delicious. Coconut milk is full of healthy fats, and it's cooling during the summer.
We wash our greens as soon as we get them, either from the farmer's market or the garden, so they're ready to eat or put on a burger. ;)
Keep water in pretty jugs and jars. You might be more likely to drink it!
My cat Lemon has kidney problems, so I also give him coconut water for hydration, and CatSip for happiness.
Aah, the middle and bottom shelves, where we keep the good stuff. Let's go through some of it.
Keep fresh fruit and vegetables, like cherries and figs, washed and ready to eat.
I actually like peanut butter more than almond butter (don't tell the other health coaches!), but I always like variety.
After avocados turn ripe on the counter, you can put them in the fridge until you're ready to use them. I make fresh guacamole all the time by smashing an avocado and stirring in some of that salsa on the bottom shelf. Add lemon juice and salt. Yum!
That ginger is ready to be sliced and added to water for a refreshing drink. I'll post a video soon about how to make your ginger extra juicy.
We eat tofu a couple times a month, usually as a compliment to a dish, not the main focus. Tofeta is my favorite thing to make with tofu.
Yep, we make our own sauerkraut and kombucha. I'm German, so I've loved sauerkraut since I was a kid. Fermented foods like kraut, kombucha, and pickles are so good for digestion, and they're easy to make.
More fresh vegetables. Keep them out of the drawers where you can see them, and you'll be more likely to eat them!
We grew those cucumbers in our own garden!
We store some long-lasting produce in the drawers.
I keep a sliced lemon in the fridge so I can have my lemon water whenever I want. Looks like I've got enough lemons to make lemon bars mmmm....
My husband loves apples, and he gets 1/2 peck of organic local apples for $7 at the farmer's market. It fills up the drawer and lasts about a month. Some people say apples can take the place of coffee in the morning. Have you tried it? Tell me in the comments.
I'm crazy for beet smoothies lately! You can saute the greens too.
Those zucchini are for zucchini brownies. Oh yeah.
Have you ever seen a prettier onion? I admit, I bought it for its looks.
Take action now! I showed you mine, now you show me yours! Take a picture of your fridge and post it onFacebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Be sure to tag me @terramilo on Twitter and Instagram!
