Zigi doesn’t realize at first what he’s looking at; it appears almost organic. A dark shaft of metal, that Zigi first thinks is scrap, a pipe or an antenna, rises askew from the mossy mound, a flagpole with no flag.  Another explorer has reached this deep into the pale.

For example 20 years ago I was wearing my favourite black leather jacket with seven white stripes running down the back, black jeans and black combat boots. I was walking outside Karl Lund's house because I hate him. It was snowing and raining so there was no sun, which I was very happy about. A lot of bourgeois fuckers stared at me. I put up my middle finger at them.
