Katara never blamed Zuko for her mother's death, she was mad because he betrayed her trust at Ba Sing Se. She was literally about to use the special Northern Water Tribe healing water to heal his scar, the same water she used to save Aang from dying. My girl has every single right to not trust Zuko.

How does that first encounter go down between them in your Spitfire AU? I imagine some real conflicting emotions on all sides!
I would love to hear you ramble!! ❤️
*cracks knuckles* Alright, let's do this.
As far as the world is concerned, Lu Ten II doesn't exist and the Royal Bloodline ends with Princess Azula. The little kid that follows Prince Zuko everywhere? That's Ten Ten, an orphaned stowaway his Crew found and adopted for some weird reason no-one ever questions—the kid is just that lovable.
(It helps, honestly, that Lu Ten II is a carbon-copy of poor, forgotten Ursa. No one would ever think to connect him with Fire Lord Ozai, long may he reign.)
Little Ten Ten loves to run off when the Crew is on shore leave. He gets into trouble sometimes, but only because of his chronic inability to look away from people who need help (it makes Zuzu both so proud and so shouty-because-he's-worried. It's fun until it isn't).
By now the Crew knows not to panic when the kid goes missing for a couple of hours in a harbor town—which is why no one noticed Ten Ten's disappearance until it was too late.
"Could someone please explain to me," what starts as a mutter becomes a shout as anxiety takes over Sokka, "why on earth did we go into town to buy necessary, highly specific supplies, and returned—not only with a stolen waterbending scroll—stolen! From pirates, Katara!—but with a Fire Nation-looking KID?!"
While Ten Ten is having the time of his life goofing with Aang, out-sassing why-is-this-happening-to-me Sokka, and melting Katara's heart—Zuko is losing his mind, sanity, and temper because how on Agni's name do you lose a Prince of your nation?
But, sir, he's like three-feet-tall—
HOW, JEE?!
Needless to say, the pirates kidnap the pretty waterbending thief and her kid with the sharp tongue and fancy-looking clothes. Which turns out to be a Bad Idea™ because, well, a skinny guy from the watertribes and his way-too-young-to-be-bald companion? They can absolutely deal with them.
A Crew's worth of murderous Fire Nation soldiers lead by the unforgiving, terrifying, bloodthirsty Prince?
They are not ready for that.
#dema answers#atla#avatar the last airbender#zuko#Spitfire AU#Lu Ten II#the gaang#atla sokka#atla aang#atla katara#the waterbending scroll#In which Zuko loses his kid and goes full Sozin on the pirates#Which—understandable#Imagine the Gaang just standing by and looking befuddled during the whole thing#“Who on earth is this guy and why is he—oh he's your big brother? Can't really see the resemblance—what do they mean he's THE PRINCE?!”#Cue Sokka passing out (he did NOT faint) Katara cursing her (un)lucky stars and Aang trying to become friends with the bloodthirsty warrior#The battle is over quickly. Now the pirates are gone and Zuko just stands there for a minute straight scowling and breathing heavily.#And then he snaps out of it and runs towards a beaming Ten Ten and just bear-hugs the kid like he's the only thing Zuko has left.#Saying things like “I was so worried” and “please don't ever do that again” and “are you okay? Did they hurt you?” and “I love you Spitfire”#And the Gaang just...understands#He's not a bloodthirsty villain looking for a fight. He's a terrified big brother who would do anything to protect his sibling.#Zuko doesn't say anything to them that night. He recognises the Avatar immediately (those tattoos are not subtle). But he just doesn't care.#They protected and took care of Spitfire. Even if they didn't have to. Even if they knew what he was (what nation he belongs to).#And he's thankful. He still wants to kill someone—but he's thankful.#So he looks at each of them in solemn contemplation. He nods. He takes Lu Ten II in his arms and leaves.#And the Gaang is left wondering what just happened and what will this mean for them in the future.#(Ten Ten doesn't shut up about them for ages. He tells Zuko stories about the funny arrow guy and Grump and the girl with the pretty smile)#(And Zuko doesn't quite know what to do with that)#(So he just smiles and changes the subject when Spitfire says that he'd really like for Zuzu to meet his new friends)#(Zuko isn't ready for that—not yet)

Summary:
Zuko and Sokka are forced to share a tent due to Katara and Aang sharing the only other one available (Toph makes her own).
This is NOT a Zukka fic, but it is rated mature just in case

[Additional ID: Sokka is shirtless, and Katara and Toph are both wearing tank tops, with Katara's hair unbraided and spread out in a fan above her head. Momo is asleep on Sokka's leg. Sokka is on his back and has an arm resting on Zuko's shoulder. Zuko is on his side with his head pillowed on his arm. Aang is on his back next to Zuko. Katara is on her side next to Aang, with her arms draped around Toph, who is on her back. She has an arm on Katara's leg. There are rugs and pillows strewn everywhere. End ID]

Damn atla fandom is always looking for the yin/yang dynamic and "soulmates" trope when in the canon series it's literally...... Zuko and Aang
I mean, Sokka IS absolutely Aang's best friend and brother, but the soulmates platonic bond belong to them
Tumblr media
Enemies to friends, opposite elements in terms of temperament, both related to Roku and Sozin, both have "restore my honor" thing, both have scars from Azula, "the Avatar bring Zuko hope" line etc etc
They are meant to be friends bonded by the universe (Roku and Sozin again, hello?) and their respective paths were constantly intertwined. You learn about their backstories BY PARALLELS, BY DREAMS
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“The storm” and "The Avatar and the Fire Lord" are two of my favorite episodes because it really highlights how their fates are intertwined
They are THE narrative foils of the series. From episode 1 until the very end you know they are connected
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean look at Zuko here
Tumblr media
You can’t tell me Zuko didn’t think about this convo/experience in general all the time before switching sides. He’s not angry or disappointed. He looks contemplative, like what Aang said really got to him, even if he doesn’t know it yet.
Aang couldn't never hate Zuko because he knew why Zuko was the way he was and Zuko was obsessed with him for 3 seasons.
In the end they are presented together side by side as the Fire Lord and the Avatar. Their union is what will bring peace
Tumblr media
But since it's not a "romantic connection" this relationship is ignored bruh

Rewatched book 1 after watching the live action and here is a list of everything that wasn’t in the live action that I think should have been :
Sokkas war paint
Saying the words “hair loopies”
Barely seeing the boomerang
Katara being able to calm down aang during the avatar state
The comet
Importance of mastering all 4 elements
Sokka dressing in kyoshi warrior clothing and learning the strength of women (removing and growing from his sexist beliefs)
Zukos honor /destiny (think it’s mentioned once?)
Mouthfoaming guy
Aang water bending
Roku manifesting and telling jeong jeong to teach aang firebending
Aang trying fire bending too soon and burning katara which leads to him being hesitant on learning firebending in book 3
Katara finding out about her healing abilities
Aang being selfish by keeping location of Sokka and kataras father from them
Aangs crush on katara
Aang doing everything he Can to heal his friends in the swamp
"Miyuki, did you get in trouble with Fire Nation again?”
Rokus dragon
Aang dealing with the guilt of leaving the southern air temple and all his people getting killed and not accepting his role as avatar
Sokkas intuition for recognizing Jets deceit
Sokka being a natural inventor (it’s barely even touched in the live action) Sokka is smart and creative
Katara’s dedication to learning water bending by stealing the scroll
Katara’s jealousy of aang being able to bend and learn faster than her
Kataras fierce determination and her take no shit personality
The cruelty of the fire nation by imprisoning earth benders into work camps (this is just one example)
Katara’s selflessness and bravery by getting herself imprisoned in the war camp and saving all the prisoners shows how much empathy Katara feels for people and always wanting to help those who can’t help themselves
Showing how master jeong jeong and others left the fire nations army because of its cruelty (fire nation people can be good and recognize the evil in their own ranks)
How aang feels upset about the disrespect and condition of the northern air temple/legacy of his people but accepts it in the end knowing they need this temple as their home
Using the fallen war balloon to create a fleet of airships in the final battle with Ozai
Appa being a badass and also fighting to protect aang multiple times
Iroh and his white lotus tile (this is important foreshadowing for later seasons)
The healer in the northern water tribe recognizing the betrothal necklace and realizing it belonged to her friend and kataras grandmother, kanna, who was engaged to master pakku of the northern tribe but left to live in the South Pole
Katara confronting pakku and telling him “I’ll be outside if you’re man enough to fight me” ( the challenge is off screen in live action, dumb choice tbh just glad we got to see the physical fight at least)
Pakku finding the betrothal necklace and talking about kanna and katara saying her gran left because “she wouldn’t let your stupid tribes customs control her life” which in turn makes pakku reconsider and start teaching katara waterbending
Pakku complementing kataras skill saying she’s has advanced faster than any other student he has trained (this shows how great and powerful of a water bender she truly is)
How strong the water benders are at night especially during the full moon
How the moon was the first water bender
Zuko kidnapping aangs body while he is in the spirit world
“You rise with the moon, I rise with the sun”
Not showing emotion to koh cause he’ll steal your face
Zuko talking to unconscious aang telling him how everything always came easy to his sister, she’s a firebending prodigy. Ozai telling Zuko that azula was “born lucky while Zuko was lucky to be born” (another instance of ozai’s cruelty as a father)
Talking about how iroh has been to the Spirit world
Zuko trying to challenge katara during a FULL MOON” “Here for a rematch?” “Trust me Zuko it’s not going to be much of a match” and then her kicking his ass in 5 seconds
Aang showing compassion to Zuko by saving him again despite Zuko kidnapping his body
Iroh staying with katara Sokka and yue after the moon spirit is killed (this shows his heart)
Yues body disappearing and her spirit kissing Sokka and her saying “I’ll always be with you”
The ocean spirit grabbing zhao and dragging him into the sea
Pakku wanting to help rebuild the southern water tribe
Pakku Calling her Master katara and saying she’ll train aang from now on
Azula appearing at the end and Ozai sending her on a task because Zuko is a failure and iroh is a traitor

Can you give examples of Aang showing Empathy? Oh wait, you can't.
Actually, I can - because unlike you, I base my opinion of the characters on the actual stuff that happened in the story, not the bad faith takes dumb people on the internet come up with.
Zuko literally only survived past book 1 because Aang was the ONLY person amongst the heroes that gave a single fuck about his well-being. Aang offered to be FRIENDS with him as early as episode 13, even though this dude is trying to kidnap him.
In the first damn episode we see him realize and try to remedy Katara's struggle with no longer being able to act like a kid and have fun. He wants to travel with her so SHE gets to learn waterbending. He willingly lets Zuko take him into his ship because he understood that a conflict could lead to the people of the water tribe getting hurt or killed.
In Warriors of Kyoshi he apologizes to Katara for letting all the praise and admiration go to this head. He makes sure to put out the fires Zuko and his crew started in Suki's village.
He tries to help remedy the Hei-Bai situation, even though he is unsure of himself and even scared, because he knows he is the only one that has any chance of helping - and the thing that allows him to connect with Hei-Bai is the fact that he is ALSO upset about the destruction the Fire Nation has caused AND hopeful that the world would eventually heal.
He thinks Jet is awesome because he wants to help people that are being oppressed by the Fire Nation - and then is horrified when he finds out his intension is to "free" them by killing everyone
He wants to help the two rival groups not only safely cross the Great Divide, but also stop hating each other.
He confesses that he hid the map to Hakoda because Bato, Katara and Sokka are showing how much they appreciate and trust him and he feels unworthy of it after what he did because he knows it'd hurt him if the roles were reversed.
He is so devastated by the fact that he ACCIDENTALLY hurt Katara that he swears to never firebend again. He is also able to recognize the same principle behind his mistake in Zhao's fighting style, allowing him to win the battle against the bastard.
He accepts the fact that the Northern Air Temple is now occupied by people who not only don't belong to his culture but also don't understand it and unknowingly destroyed something sacred to him (and that one of them had been forced to make weapons for the Fire Nation) because these people have nowhere else to go and he doesn't want them to suffer.
He is furious at Pakku for refusing to teach Katara waterbending, because he knows how much it'd mean to her and how unfair it is that she can't learn it just because of her gender.
He is so devastated by the death of the Moon Spirit that the Ocean Spirit latches onto him to avenge it and save the day - and the leve of destruction it causes haunts Aang, even though the violence was against his enemies. And still, he tries to go into the Avatar state again because people are dying and he can't accept that.
After the fall of Omashu, he wants to rescue Bumi, not because he needs a teacher, but because they're friends.
He felt empathy for Toph when she was explaining to her parents how lonely and unappriacted their over-protection made her feel.
He and Katara both feel bad for snapping at Toph during "The Chase" and wanted to apologize for not understanding that being part of a group was a radical change to her, even though she had refused to even try. He also didn't have a problem with fighting alongside Zuko and Iroh against Azula, AND he looked concerned when Iroh was injured.
After Katara comments on the fact he called Toph Sifu but not her, he calls her Sifu while bowing, to show that he respects her both as his master and friend.
The hopelessness and downright depression he was feeling after Appa was stolen only starts healing because he saw a couple being happy with their newborn baby - the same couple he decided to help cross the Serpent's Pass, even though he and his friends had just been allowed to take a much safer route to Ba Sing Se.
His understanding and sympathy towards Jet, even after everything the guy did, was so strong that it freed him from literal brainwashing.
He doesn't want to push his love for Katara aside to gain power because he cares about her too much - and then does it anyway because, even though not making her his main focus 24/7 offers the risk of her being hurt, him neglecting his mission guarantees she'll get hurt.
He is devastated to learn that the world thinks he is dead because he knows he was everyone's last hope - and yet in the end he still accepts the burden of failure because he understood that, at that moment, everyone would be safer if no one else knew he was still alive.
He goes to a Fire Nation school and bonds with the kids, wanting to give them a taste of freedom and joy, as well as trying to understand what the war is like from their perspective. The same episode also has him pull Katara for a dance because he noticed she was feeling left out.
The boy felt empathy for, and understood the mistakes of, both Ruko and Sozin. SOZIN. Aang could see the humanity in the monster that is responsible for him losing his entire culture and everyone he loved.
When Zuko spoke about wanting to control his impulses so he wouldn't accidentally hurt anyone, Aang explicitly connected with that struggle and saw them being teacher and student as fate, and Zuko agreed because that's how deep their connection was.
Aang is not happy about Katara wanting to murder a man, but he still lets her take Appa on her mission and is not disapproving when she ultimately spares the guy but does not forgive him and makes it clear she never will.
He feels empathy for freaking Ozai, to the point that refuses to kill the guy - even as he has the balls to say that Aang's family, his people, deserved to die. He spared that guy - but only after he had a way to do that without it meaning the death of more innocents. Aang, the pacifist, was going to turn his back on everything he believed in just to avoid more human suffering.
So yeah, miss me with your bullshit and don't come back until your brain is developed enough to understand a cartoon aimed at kindergarterners.

During the lonely years following Sokka’s death, Zuko tried his best to hold on, but he was shattered; eventually, at the end of his long life, he found comfort in what Sokka told him before passing away.
“Don’t you think I’ll leave you alone, I’ll haunt you in all our next lives ‘till I find you again”. He even managed to smirk. What a dumbass.
-
At the end of 2023, during an archeological excavation, beautiful clothes and books belonging to the Fire Nation and the Water Tribe are discovered; an ample exhibition is held and people from all over the world gathered together to visit it.
A young student is hypnotized by a simple, yet captivating ivory necklace; he is so fascinated by it he bumps into another student, who was funnily spinning aroung himself, trying to admire five Fire Nation robes at the same time.
They distractedly looked at each other and briefly apologized before heading towards other areas, only to meet again in the following rooms for three times.
The taller one eventually smiled, instinctively playing with a strand of ebony, long silk hair to conceal the scar on the left side of his face.
“Haunting me?”
The other boy coarsely laughed, his bright blue eyes turning away from a scroll to look at the source of that sentence, meeting two golden irises.
“Looks like it”.

It’s just interesting to observe the differences in how people treat Zukka vs how they treat Zutara. Because I searched Zutara on TikTok to look for some edits and the comments were filled to the brim with people saying “But Katara belonged with Aang 🥺” or “How can you ship Zuko with her after Mai said such a romantic line?” Or perhaps the most insufferable of all “Maturing is realizing that Zuko would’ve thrown himself in from of lightning for ANYONE” as if that’s some revolutionary reading of the text. It’s so irritating how this kind of behaviour is…accepted by the fandom.
But you don’t get that with Zukka, instead you see people gushing over how sweet they are together, hailing it as a wholesome and unproblematic ship, praising artworks of it with positivity and appreciation. It’s difficult to find much negativity under Zukka posts, you won’t see people saying “But Sokka belongs with Suki 🥺” or boldly going on a tangent about how another ship is SO much better. I saw one person praise Zukka as the most unproblematic ATLA ship because of how little conflict there was about it, that you wouldn’t see the same hostility among that fandom as you might with Zutara.
But there’s a reason for that which has less to do with Zutara shippers themselves, and more to do with the harassment and hostility they face on all sides of the fandom. Fans will go out of their way to antagonize Zutara shippers, they’ll feel brazen enough to leave backhanded or outright hostile comments under Zutara posts and art, they’ll interject their shipping opinions in spaces where nobody asked and condescend Zutara shippers by framing them as shallow or delusional for shipping it.
I think Zukka is admittedly cute, and they definitely have their haters, but the difference between it and Zutara is astounding. It’s incredibly frustrating to watch this phenomenon play out, especially when these shippers carry themselves with a kind of false moral superiority that can only be found in shipping discourse.

Can you please do yandere atla gaang imagine pls?
Yes :) I guess I have to write something on my birthday :) [I didn't do Toph, cause I don't think I write her well...]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aang
He met you while they were on their little 'trip' around the world. Sure, maybe you were a Firebender... And so what if you used to work for Zuko, you've changed. They know that after watching you betray Zuko at the North Pole. They were all in shock.
At first, you didn't want to take in their charity of letting you join the group... But after hearing about your now reputation amongst the Fire Land, you decided to join them as you had nowhere to go.
Aang empathized with you in that sense. Having no where were you belong. Why you were just like him! It causes him to form an unhealthy attachment that you won't be able to escape... No matter how strong you are.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Katara
You're a waterbender, too? Oh how cool! And your from her tribe??? How is this even possible? Katara met you when she met your grandmother, Hama. You loved your grandmother, but you were hoping the gang could stop her and finally put an end to her torture.
Your mother hadn't gotten Hama's bending, which Hama's was fine with. She was NOT fine with your mother marring and bearing a child with a fire bender. After your birth, she murdered your parents. She would have killed you too, but there was a hope that you would be a water bender. Thankfully you were.
Katara felt terrible about having to imprison your grandmother, because she thought you would hate her, but it was quite the opposite. Your grandmother needed help, and you couldn't give it to her.
Katara offers you a spot on the team, hopefully you'll join them. And you do... On the conditional that she'll take you to the Southern Water Tribe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sokka
He's an idiot and he made an absolute fool out of himself in front of you. He wanted to impress you, but he did the opposite. He was incredibly sexist and offensive. You explain this to him and at first he doesn't understand- You sound just like his sister. He complains to Aang about it and Katara overhears, telling him how he's an idiot.
He wants you to like him, because he thinks you're so cool, especially for a non-bender. He's sort of jealous of your skill. To him, you're the most incredible human to walk this earth.
Your flattered, sure, but he's just a guy and you tell him that. That makes Sokka realize he has to impress you and boy does he try. Though, like stated previously, he just can't help but make himself into a fool. But maybe you're more into the clown then you originally thought.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zuko
Zuko has problems- Just like everyone else, but compared to the rest of his family, he's a saint. What you had at first was a fling, as he was banned from the Fire Nation. But, he really started to like you... Like a lot. When Azula came looking for her brother, she noticed his attachment to you rather quickly. Only a fool wouldn't use this to their advantage.

This is gonna be the ONE time you're gonna hear me defend m night shyamalan's atla movie. The ONE time. But the costumes for his movie were fucking good. Yes the cast was horrible, yes the script was cringe, yes the bending was goofy. But the costume design was FIRE and i'm tired of pretending it wasn't. There's obviously some tweeks i would have made: mainly Katara and Sokka's hair, but the costumes looked like they belonged in the atla universe. It worked. And they look a lot better than the costumes we see in these current promo shots.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The only exception so far to me, is Dallas Liu's Zuko costume. At least his scar is actually visible to the naked eye lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again like i said in my last post we'll just have to wait and see for an actual trailer to judge how these costumes work in action. But currently i feel like it looks too clean, too fake. I get that they wanted to go for accuracy but Gordon's Aang literally looks like he's wearing polyester cotton blend. They could have at least went with linen bc airbenders can warm themselves by controlling their breathing.
Idk maybe this is my pessimistic nature ruining the party lol. What do you guys think?
