I’m about to try and read Chumbley for like the 4th time, cuz I’ve been leafing through The Book of Q’ab iTz By David Herrerias recently and am intrigued again. But before I delve into the Azoetia(AGAIN), I’d love to know if there’s someone around who could just explain it in plain English? Chumbley writes like Austin, and it’s just a lot. I hate when occult authors feel like they have to write in the most flowery language possible. I mean Alexandra David-Neel was translating her material from a completely different language, and somehow it’s still basic English that’s easy to understand. And she wasn’t even a native English-speaker(if she did the English translation)! I just feel like there’s better ways of gatekeeping. I mean most people aren’t stumbling across Chumbley to begin with, so do you really even need to do all that? It’s most likely just how he talked, but damn. I’ll take

Is not only “having a dick”, is having a lignum, not a a sexual organ for reproduction and pleasure, It’s a divine symbol of concentration (over dispersion), a symbol of sacred sex, a method of gnosis (knowledge)

I feel more and more like Austin Osman Spare is someone I should pay more attention to. I know I've read him before, trying to understand him in terms of his contribution to chaos magic at least. But since looking at the Esoterica video on Spare and sigil magic, the notion of Will in Spare's system can hardly escape my interest. I believe I should at some point examine his work again, in pursuit not only of the expression of a sort of "reptilian" activity (to borrow a phrase from a friend) expressed by liberated subconscious desire, but more especially a theme of interiority that his concept of Will might contain.
To me that theme of interiority in Will would be relevant to both the individual and a sense of the interiority of what we might call "nature" (perhaps at least illuminating more concretely "the nature of nature"). I'm aware of the irony of such an interest given the way I often talk about Thelema (often in a somewhat skeptical tone, but not necessarily dismissive I should think; I have a very mixed opinion of Thelema in practice), in that there are times when I think one can, by this very inquiry, approach some of the basic substance of Thelema. At least particularly one should certainly arrive at something in common with Kenneth Grant, representing the "Left Hand Path" of Thelema. But in the sense of Will, I'm thinking, it must not quite be the Will of God, or even the Will of the universal ego or even non-ego, but more a kind of Will itself, almost blind but actuating. Really don't have a good sketch at this point.
But part of me also figures that this interiority must somehow have some resonance with a kind of outsideness. After all, Gruppo Di Nun probably managed to elaborate an entire system of masochistic mysticism and metaphysics based partly on Spare's system among many other influences. Such a link between interiority in this sense and outsideness, I figure, could also pose some rather welcome problems for the social-ecologist project to define "nature" solely as a relationship of human consciousness. I'm also kind of hoping the Creative Nothing per Stirner would have some entry into this network of ideas as well.

Honestly, I feel like I was not productiv today, but at the same time I do? It is a weird feeling. Anyways: Todays topic was Chaos Magick. Even though I am not at all focusing on the 19th-20th century it is interesting to take a look at later forms of magical believes. That timeperiod in particular is interesting, since psychoanalysis became a thing, what also shaped the view on magic itself.
Key figure for CM was Austin Osman Spare, who was a "critic" (that might be a far to nice word) of Freud, Jung but also Crowley. His philosphy/religious view mainly focused around the Idea of KAI as the unfiltered source energy of all. All in the sense of literally everything as one conected being and us as humans as part of that one thing. ZOS is more or less the lack (?) of KAI or having it blured by something like the ego. To reconect to KAI Sigil Magick is used as a tool.
For more Information I recomend Angela Puca's talk about Chaos Magick at Witchfest. Justin Sledge did a good video on the topic as well.
