i do enjoy dimentio! i like all the silly things he does for the flair- spinning in midair, snapping his fingers, the similes, the showmanship. i think that silliness is an important part of his character and it makes him really fun to work with, thinking up what kinds of ridiculous things he'd say, or how he'd tease or push his teammates. the guy's just fun and he bounces off his teammates really well, whether they brush him off or get flustered or bite back. good chemistry with a lot of characters.

the insurance site is still down... 

at least most things are open for a little while tomorrow. i can still try to call. i got a bunch of other necessary things done today too so i wasn’t just sitting around waiting. 

although i also couldn’t reach my mother to ask for help, so. we have a doctor in our “family friends” repertoire and she could probably just send me prescription refill orders since she knows me, and i already have the details, i don’t need anything changed.

For the character promp, how bout my boy Chunky?

First impression:

honestly at first he didn't really ping me in any way? just kind of a big stupid punchy guy, just like he wants to be seen. i didn't give him a second thought until he begged for death, and then my eyebrows near shot off my head.

Impression now:

"oh thank god, o'chunks is here"

Favorite moment:

when you beat him for the final time in castle bleck and the ceiling falls and he catches it. this guy will hold to his honor until the death, and we already knew that, but just... seeing it play out in the heroes' favor, even against his own boss, is such an interesting development. and it isn't framed as a betrayal of his friends or the count at all! they just... earned the right for him to ensure they make it to the next chamber, fair and square, and he's not a bad person for recognizing that. if he had chosen to take the heroes down with him, he technically could have won the game for his whole team right then and there! but he'd rather play fair than win.

Idea for a story:

(kicks filling the void under the bed behind me) i like seeing stories about him in the postgame, the ways he chooses to try to pick up the pieces of his team's life. how sweet and even perceptive he can be when he's calmed down.

Favorite relationship:

his relationship with nastasia is fascinating. the way he's so protective of his team, but he personally brings out her own protectiveness, and it's a nasty horrible "i won't just ban you from leaving the house, i will make you not even want to leave the house" mentality. it's so bad for him. nastasia doesn't understand her teammates, or, she doesn't understand them in the way a normal person would try to connect with others, and it's incredible to watch as a villain dynamic.

Favorite headcanon:

i like it when people riff off his game sprite and give him a googly glass eye or lazy eye. it feels right for him.

I saw a post whose artist identifies their Mario as aroace and I wondered, despite being extras in this story, have you thought how Mario, Luigi, Peach and Bowser each identify? (Also, maybe a bonus ask, a reminder for Blue and Co.?)

yeah, i can talk about that a bit! with the bros, the labels are... not *quite* right? but they are technically correct.

i can't really make any calls about actual canon lol, i think all of those characters are probably asexual because they live in a pg-rated universe where storks can and will deliver babies. they're allowed to flirt at least, and... whatever the hell waluigi is doing, but mario games are not focused on actual romantic relationships let alone sexual ones. most of what we see from the characters is one-sided or played for laughs.

but anyway, on to comic-geared interpretations.

mario is aro/ace in my story as well. he's more interested in having a good rollicking adventure than dating anyone, though he does enjoy a spot of cake or a kiss on the nose. he and peach are close friends.

luigi is trans and gay. he's dating peasley in the comic, but it won't come up much, since they spend 99% of their screentime outside of their home world. he still likes to crossdress, but it’s less about “dressing in girl’s clothes” and more “well yeah i like wearing dresses, they’re not girl clothes, they’re luigi clothes.”

peach is... hm, i haven’t thought about peach a lot. i think she’s probably also ace, but maybe homoromantic. royalty isn’t determined by lineage among the toads, so an heir has never been on her to-do list. she’ll probably take on an apprentice later in life though, much like toadsworth cared for her.

whatever’s going on with bowser, he sure likes peach a lot. i think that at first the kidnapping was very much an occupation for him, but as he and peach spent more time together over the years he did grow quite genuinely enamored with her and her no-nonsense attitude. but part of it is probably that he doesn’t have any monarch koopas his age in his life; he’s the only one. else he’d probably be more or less straight, maybe pan. i guess you could say he identifies as a dad and leave it at that.

reminder-wise, 

the count is asexual and gray-aromantic. he’s also intersex, as you can see in his horn length, fluffiness, and general stature. 

timpani is pan.

nastasia is “not even god knows what your orientation is. good luck” (but she has expressed a deep romantic desire for the count at any rate).

o’chunks is bi.

dimentio is gay.

mimi is gender fluid (mostly settled somewhere around “girl” by the time she hits her teens, but you can still catch her changing it up every now and then) and into girls.

Headcanon A:  realistic

mr. l didn’t really... befriend any of the team members before he was so viciously booted off the team by dimentio? it’s fun to imagine him getting to know everyone, but in the game scenes he just didn’t even start developing a rapport with the rest of the team, and i kinda got the feeling he never left his workshop to get to know any of them anyway. a very lonely boy.

Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious

luigi was extremely jealous when mario got a whole Face Ship later on, but could never place why.

Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends

luigi totally remembers his experiences as mr. l, but he claims to have forgotten it because of the immense guilt he feels over everything he said to mario and peach, and every way he tried to hurt them. it also means he would remember that isolation of thinking he’s been alone his whole life, and his only friends were the little things he could build and completely control.

Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.

brobot was assembled by magic rather than building it by hand. there’s just no way he could have done that twice from castle bleck, none of those rooms in the castle had like ANYTHING in them that he could have worked with.

which is to say, the one who helped him get those supplies and build the dang robot was the count, who pestered him endlessly about specs and exact measurements and battery life and fire safety and “if you damage my castle testing out these weapons so help me-”
