Edwin had only been a proper ghost for about a month or so before he met Charles. In hell they have physical forms, he’d only been figuring out how to exist as a ghost for a few weeks.

Then Charles starts asking about how it works, what the rules are, and he tries to dodge the question but the kid keeps asking and he’s dying after all so he might as well humour him.

He acts like he knows what he’s doing, shows off a little even though he only knows the few basic tricks every other ghost probably figures out soon after death. It’s not like Charles will ever find out anyway, he’ll be moving on soon.

But then he doesn’t. Charles dies and decides to stay with Edwin, because apparently he’s crazy enough to throw away his blissful afterlife for a boy he just met. Edwin tries to tell him as such, to warn him of what he’s subjecting himself to an eternity of.

“I’ll be aces” he says, “I have you to teach me everything, don’t I?”. He looks at him with so much faith that Edwin can’t possibly tell him the truth, not now. He’s in far too deep and he’ll just have to keep pretending, he can’t let Charles down. Besides, how hard can it be?

Ginny Sparkshine’s Winter Veil Gift

Several years ago, shortly after Koszmar’s resurrection from the dead, after he had established himself in Orgrimmar. The Warlock has affirmed a few colleagues, and fewer, but close friends in the Horde.

“Oh! Ko! C’mere a minute!” The tiny, wiry goblin female called out. Her voice echoing just enough in the darkened recesses of the Cleft of Shadows. Koszmar turned his head, and spotted a short, green figure bouncing up and down, waving its arms with something wrapped and held in it’s hands. Setting down a borrowed book upon a nearby shelf, the Warlock stepped out of the “room” carved into the bizarre caverns.

“Come check this out!” Her voice called again. “I got somethin’ for ya!” Koszmar was intrigued, and stepped across the way, to meet with the goblin. Recognizing the voice and figure as he approached, the first thing he noticed was her tied back blue hair, and extremely casual clothing, consisting of little more than black pants, shoes, a black vest, and a dark grey shirt. 

“Get down here, would ya?” She insisted as he was now within speaking distance for what would be considered normal conversations. Koszmar knelt down on one knee, and waited to see what the matter was.

The goblin lady jumped forward and wrapped her arms around his neck, squeezing what would otherwise be the life out of a normal, non-Forsaken individual. Koszmar feigned a hacking cough, but returned the excited hug.

“It’s good to see you too, Zinny.” He spoke, standing back up after she released the embrace.

“Of course it is!” She replied, shaking a finger in the direction of his face, with a clever smirk and wink. “Because it’s always a good day when your best pal Zinny Sparkshine comes ‘round with your Winter Veil gift!”

Koszmar raised a hand to his head, scratching at the hair just above his forehead. “Zinny, I don’t have anything for you just yet. I’ve been preoccupied with considering flesh reconstruction through the use of nether energies. I do have something, but it’s just not ready yet.”

“Naahhhhhh.” the goblin answered dismissively. “Don't worry about it! In fact, it’s kind of about that. Here, just open it!”

The warlock’s hands received the wrapped gift from the little lady, and held it before his eyes. It felt crescent shaped, and extremely sturdy. Yet there was also some give to it, as though covered in a layer of very thin padding in different quantities. The paper used to wrap it was a solid red, but had a few wrenched, skulls, and a Horde symbol crudely, albeit surprisingly well doodled upon it.

Koszmar glanced down, but conceded and began to unwrap it. Lifting the contents up, he regarded it with an extremely intrigued and appreciative expression. The gift inside was an artificial jaw. Black, but shockingly realistic as far as Forsaken prosthetics were concerned.

“Like it?” Zinny inquired slightly nervously. “I built it using an approximation of the measurements and shape of your own jaw. The bone is a light alloy with a thin layer of synthetic skin over it. Might not be perfect, but it should be a nearly 100% recreation of you jaw and lower lip.”

“Wow.” Koszmar offered. “This is-”

“It’s not great, I know. I wa-”

“No! This is marvelous!” Koszmar admired. “Even for goblin craftsmanship, this is far more detailed and thorough than I could have expected! You really didn’t have to go to so much effort and fine tuning just for me.”

“Aw, it’s nothin’.” Zinny replied, stepping to one side, and pretending to look over various magical books and items in an attempt to hide her face. “I just wanted to give ya somethin’ that you could really use and hopefully like. I know that the jaw ya’ve already got has been givin’ ya some problems lately and you’ve been thinkin’ of replacing it.”

Koszmar once again stepped forward, and knelt down. He placed a hand on her shoulder. The goblin’s head turned, looking Ko directly in the eyes. He gave her a hug, and resumed his normal upright stance while looking over the well-made prosthetic. “I’ll get you yours very soon. Don’t worry.” Zinny watched her Forsaken friend admiring her work, and felt a strange rush of fulfillment and happiness at the well received feelings her had for the gift.

“Nah, don’t worry about it, Ko.” She added, also dismissively. “Whenever is fine. Besides, this is gift enough for me.” Koszmar smiled down at her, regarding the goblin with curiosity at the remarkably heartfelt comment. Zinny noticed after a brief moment, and felt a tiny blush form, before adding with a hurry, “But, I would like to see what you got for me!”

A goblin has to keep some degree of “at least pretend” selfishness, right?
