Happy Holidays to everyone! no matter what winter thing you celebrate! and if you celebrate none at all, enjoy your break from work :) as a gift from me to you, here’s the first workings of my new invader zim zadf project-y thing: the Strange But True AU, this post featuring a rambling explanation and a buncha drawings of it. in it, zim has been adopted by the membranes in all but name, dib, him, gir and gaz are friends/siblings, with him and dib being especially close. this happened because the tallest finally snapped and told zim everything.

AND I MEAN EVERYTHING. betrayed and confused, zim turned to dib, who-having struggled with being out of place himself-feels bad for the alien and tries to help him. zim discovers that he is in fact full on defective, but not in the way the tallest thought. turns out as a young irken he was found to be overly emotional, loving, creative, and excited, so he was forced to connect to a special computer which basically programmed him to be like all the other irkens, making him adore the tallest and just generally be the perfect worker bee like the rest of his kind. but the procedure took its toll, and it backfired somewhat, creating the egotistical and maniacal Zim we know in canon content. when zim is banished for good by the tallest, however, whatever was edited in his PAK short circuits and he reverts to the way he was naturally, leaving him altogether a more caring and genuine individual, and the zim we’ll discover together in this au. just so ya’ll know, i realize this probably wouldn’t happen in canon, so just keep in mind this is for my own and others enjoyment and not a deep dive into canon lore or anything, so please no comments criticizing this in that regard if you would. I really love the idea of membrane being a defective irken scientist so I might play around with that in this au?? we’ll see. in this dib is 17 and gaz is 16, skoodge and zim were friends as smeets and he might show up later, zim doesn’t grow at all, and membrane isn’t a totally awful person. I’ll probably add on to this later since I’m writing this in a rush to get it out before the end of christmas, so apologies if this all sounds like gibberish. ideas for drawings in this au and ideas for the au in general are totally welcome! have a wonderful day!!

Dib has a LOT more childish innocence than we realize:

I don't think Dib truly knows what will ACTUALLY happen if he wins. Like, on one hand, he wants to see Zim's intestines. (Aka, his drawing of Zim cut open.) On the other, he truly believes that Zim will be ALIVE by the end of it. (The fact that drawing-Zim is screaming in horror rather than pain or just flat out dead AND that future Dib episode where Dib's dream future has Zim captured and experimented on and cut open but ALIVE.)

That and while Dib knows Zim has been "well trained" I don't think he KNOWS this means that Zim is an ACTUAL soldier who has seen AND caused a lot of death. Whereas Dib hasn't seen or caused any. (To my knowledge.)

I just find it sad and interesting that Dib believes that if he wins, Zim will be vivisected but still be alive 👏🏻at👏🏻the👏🏻same👏🏻time!👏🏻

And while Zim can also be childish, he can also be competent and serious. (Aka "The Wettening" and "Dark Harvest".)

Not to mention that while Dib has done a lot of stuff to defeat, humiliate, and stop Zim; the Irken himself ACTUALLY TRIED to KILL Dib in that time travel episode. I don't recall Dib EVER actually trying to kill Zim.

My Invader Zim hyperfix is slowly coming back I can feel it in my right ribcage so expect some more doodles and small one shot fics here and there. Still working on my fanfics (It’s Just Puberty is coming along very very slowly for that last chapter) I just have some other projects in other fandoms now!!

I’ve never really been open with it here but my overall special interest has always been Undertale and it’s AUs, and I’ve fallen back into it lmao. I’ll get to making content of our alien human boys again very soon. ^^
