I just finished The Radiant Emperor Duology by Shelley Parker-Chan and I have some thoughts.

First, Zhu is a sneaky little rat-fuck who should never be trusted and I love her.

Second, if I had a nickel for every book I've read this month about an orphaned Chinese girl who commits war crimes, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.

Third. I was listening to the audiobook and when the fisting scene started I nearly slammed into a cop. Well done.

Fourth, Ouyang, I get why you are this fucked up, but chill. This goes double for you Baoxiang.

Finally. There was way more plot relevant smut in the second book than I was prepared for from a historical war fantasy. This is not a criticism.

All in all this series was very gender. 8/10
