Blossom the Bunny:

She’s the Rookie from Sonic Forces! She's originally from Seaside Hill, and was kind of a popular delinquent type (think Ferris Bueller). But when the initial events of the game happen and Infinite attacks her village, leading her to be separated from her older brother, she becomes overwhelmed by her anxiety, becoming a much quicker, forlorn person. She eventually joins the resistance and, with the help of her new friends, manages to get back some of her old personality. She's especially close to Amy, even using the Blue Hammer Wispon because she was inspired by her fighting style. Blossom also ends up getting a crush on Shadow after she meets him.

Zest the Rat:

Born a "beige baby", Zest was raised by two accountants who fed them nothing but unseasoned chicken and potatoes while growing up, they were loving but boring parents. Until one day, Zest found a lemon and bit into it, becoming hooked on the taste ever since. Now they seek to steal every lemon there is. They are single-minded in their mission and will stop at nothing to steal lemons from every lemon tree.

me personally i bluescreened when marisha said "what does laudna have to look forward to, she's dead" in response to a question of would laudna rather make contact with her future or past self.

i think laudna and her evolving worldview over the course of this campaign is sooooooo interesting so thoughts under the cut

"the worst thing that’s ever happened to me has already happened."

we all remember this! this is the response that laudna gave to orym when he softly pointed out that laudna seemed like she had the most positive outlook of the group. it was a central tenet of laudna's character up until that point, that despite the darkness that coated her soul, she was probably the one with the most zest for life.

she tended to believe the best in npcs that the party encountered. she had a rat marionette that got boners and made her laugh. she was wholeheartedly devoted to imogen and never, never believed that the end was the end.

and then, when orym asked her how she accomplished that, she responds in a framing of perspective.

she was murdered by the briarwoods at twenty years old. how can anything seem awful in comparison to that?

she died, and then she got to join an adventuring party. she died, and then she got to use her strange, eerie powers for good. she died, and then she met imogen.

she has hope because she's seen the lowest possible point her life can come to, and can only climb upwards from there.

she had a hope for a future, because of this. a good future. at least one that was better than the worst thing that had ever happened to her. and that future included imogen—

"can keep you from that. can keep us from that."

she had hope.

we all know this quote. this quote is the cottagecore lesbian life that marisha spoke to in four-sided dive. but i think to look at where laudna's at now, and to understand "what does laudna have to look forward to, she's dead", we have to look at the quote in greater context.

laudna is speaking to a possible future here. but in her words she's also saying that she understands that that future might mean abandoning what they feel called to do by the gods. in this moment, she's not guaranteeing a future, she's explaining to imogen that they have a choice.

and as of now, episode 82, arrived on the moon, they've made that choice. they're orpheus. they've descended into hell, and they can't look back if they want to make it out.

it's important to note that laudna wasn't lying way back in heartmoor when she was talking to orym. the worst thing that could ever happen to her had already happened. but she was operating then on her very human understanding of the world.

since then, she's died (again), been resurrected, seen magic beyond comprehension, and surrendered herself over to the spirit of her murderer that lives in her head.

there are no rules anymore. and laudna has learned that there is always something worse.

the quiet life she talked about with imogen might have been taken from her forever. the narrative has grown teeth and it has sunk them into both her and the woman she loves.

"what does laudna have to look forward to, she's dead"

she's orpheus, yeah? we know how this story ends. her love's been called to the hell planet by fate. she won't get out without losing something.

maybe—maybe—there's still hope for that cottage together somewhere. i don't mean to rule it out entirely. but i think that laudna herself, the character, has lost all belief in that possibility at this point. and that presents such a foil to the laudna that we met in episode 1.

sometimes the tragedy comes built-in.

I know it’s not actually a fighting competition, but I’ve really been into the look of fighting games recently, and wanted to try making something that looked like one! I originally wanted to animate it, but I realized I don’t actually know enough about fighting games to make it look accurate, so I just had it look like the very start of the match, right before the timer starts ticking down.

BTW, I really really like Zest’s design! They’re style is super cool, and I love the colors! I think if I ever did animate this, one of their animations would have to include biting straight out of a lemon, like that one scene from Kill La Kill.

Your post about the ranking of your preference for keeping small animals really piqued my interest since degus were your top pick, ive always seen them recommended as a great small animal with a slightly less short lifespan, but I was interested in asking why they're your favorite if you don't mind? :)

Firstly: they’re sooooooooooooo cute

I frequently describe them as a mix between chinchillas and gerbils. They come from similar environments to chinchillas and have similar care needs (hay at all times, very limited diet, no plastic) BUT crucially they’re not nearly as heat sensitive because they don’t have that insane thick fur.

They remind me behaviorally a little more of gerbils than chinchillas but maybe I’m projecting. One thing I love about gerbils is that they have like, this crazy zest for life. Every gerbil ever is so happy to be a gerbil. Being a gerbil is the best. I know that’s a little anthropomorphizing but it’s the best way I can think to explain it. I find degus to be a little sillier than chinchillas. My foster chinnies have been less curious about me than my degus have been, even when my degus were brand new to me.

They have a longer lifespan than many rodents- 4 of my 5 degus are 6.5 years old, and they average close to 10. But not as long as chinchillas, who average 15 but can live to 30… I worry about lifespans that long in case my situation changes drastically. 3 decades is a long ass time. Granted, my ball python might live to 60, but I didn’t get that snake on purpose ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Some people say degus are rat software running on chinchilla hardware. I kind of get where they’re coming from? Though my degus are less interested in free roam compared to rats and also are much less interested in being picked up. They LOVE getting their nightly peanut-in-the-shell. They get so excited. They let me pet them briefly and pick them up briefly. They’re wheel maniacs and must have a good wheel at all times. They love their weekly sandbath.

I’m just so enchanted by them lol

I will say, mine are kind of in the middle for temperament. Some people have really cuddly interactive friendly degus, and some people have bitey mean little goos. Mine are just kind of average for temperament. So keep in mind that there is a pretty wide range for niceness so ask a lot of questions from any breeder, rescue, or individual you’re considering getting degus from to assess temperament if that is important to you!
