Real talk. In BTZ III whose getting the biggest gut punch when it comes to guilt over Subaru's condition?

That is actually REALLY hard to say.

Wilhelm: His not-yet-grandson has finally done what he’s been begging him to do for like, MONTHS, and he can’t stand it. Subaru is obedient, and quiet, and so unbearably miserable that Wilhelm kind of wants to cry on his behalf. Worst of all — Subaru seems genuinely kind of afraid of him, now, which is just. That’s supposed to be his GRANDSON, he didn’t want to scare his grandson! He just wanted his grandson to stop trying to get himself killed! But now — it’s his own fault and he knows it, and he just wants to go back and kick himself.

Julius: Julius honestly, genuinely thought that he and Subaru were cool. Subaru refused to act scared or anything in front of him when they met again post-duel, and it kind of worked a little too well because he had no idea that Subaru was still really upset about it. He certainly didn’t realize that Subaru was SCARED of him. He also had no idea that Subaru was taking his teasing as, like, him being SERIOUS. He legitimately thought they were just playing together all those times, but apparently Subaru thought that Julius ACTUALLY wanted to hurt him and — just, OW. Subaru doesn’t put up a fight against him anymore, he’s just — surrendered, giving Julius a victory he didn’t even realize Subaru had been fighting for. That’s the only way Julius can really put it. He hates it.

Ferris: Ferris is up close and personal with just how badly Subaru got fucked up, because he is one of like five healers in the kingdom that are allowed to treat him for his injuries. He’s a bleeding heart who can’t stand anything about this. He’s trying really hard to not make it Subaru’s problem.

Reinhard: Subaru is supposed to be his little brother, and he’s TERRIFIED of him now. Reinhard can see it every time he enters the room. He was just trying to keep him safe, but now Subaru apparently sees him as so bound by rules and laws that he would — value upholding THEM over being nice to HIM. He was just trying to keep him safe!

Emilia: She really did think she was doing the right thing, keeping him away from her. She hated every minute of it, but she — she thought he’d be happier without her, in the long term. She knew she hurt him when she first left, but she didn’t realize just how badly — and apparently it was BAD. She doesn’t know if the right thing to do is to be there for him now or keep away from him entirely, and she doesn’t even know how to ASK. She didn’t want THIS.

Otto: Shockingly calm, all things considered. He’s enraged, because — well — but it’s not Subaru’s fault. He already kinda knew that Subaru was wary of him — had even used it to his advantage a couple of times, keeping him safe from the shadows — but he hadn’t realized that Subaru was afraid of EVERYONE ELSE.

Garfiel: A total mess. What happened to Captain?! He was supposed to keep him safe!

Pleiades Battalion: Over 900 fully-armed soldiers and somehow they completely failed at their One Job. Also Subaru is actively terrified of all of them. Maybe there really is a hell.

Anastasia: All of these people are fucking idiots, apparently. Maybe she SHOULD have insisted on taking Subaru into her Camp instead. She had been attempting to be considerate, since Julius had literally beaten him within an inch of his life, but man this is a SPECTACULAR failure.

Crusch: How the hell did her camp screw up THIS BADLY?? It’d be a little funny if it weren’t so horrifying.

Ricardo: He wishes Subaru would try to sneak into one of the carriages again. He might even humor him this time. Take a spin around the capital before coming back to drop him off. This is just awful.

Elsa: Elsa still has no idea what this situation is or how she ended up in the middle of it. Someone save her.

i'm gonna do gyu again just bc sub bully=beomgyu (kinda a part two to this)

afterwards he just gets meaner and meaner. for a multitude of reasons-

one being that you humiliated him in front of the entire school, and now he needs to get back at you,

and the other being that he's head over fucking heels in love with you now and has zero idea how to talk to a crush other than bullying them

so he continues to fight with you. threaten you, insult you, release compromising photos of you taken by his own hand (which he also uses on lonely pent up nights)

he's an asshole. who doesn't know when to quit.

you don't exactly make it easy for him though.

every time he's harassing you, you're there with a blank face, arms crossed. giving nothing away, and taking every ounce of satisfaction away from him. knowing entirely that if his group of friends weren't standing there backing him up you could do whatever you wanted to him-and he'd let you.

but you don't.

because unlike him, you pride yourself of being a decent human being.

that somehow just makes him angrier though. makes him try harder to piss you off.

spilling your food all over your clothing, laughing as he lets out an "oops, sorry, i didn't mean to." all while cackling with his friends.

egging your car and writing on it with spray paint, causing damage he knows you don't have the money to fix.

he wants you to be angry. he wants you to be so pissed at him, at everything he's done to you that you just can't hold it in anymore. he wants you to finally snap and grab him by the neck. kiss him until he's breathless and dumb (his very first kiss) and then fuck him to oblivion and back (his very first fuck).

beomgyu wants you to put him in his place, unlike so many other people in his life that don't care as he walks all over them.

and it only takes a single thing for you to snap.

him loudly talking to you in the middle of class, taunting the fact that you somehow got a lower mark than him. leaning across the isle to get up into your face, smirking his dumb smirk.

you simply ignore him, preferring not to add to the scene until the teacher zeroes in on the two of you, looking unimpressed as she sends the both of you to detention.

the detention class was completely silent now. just the sound of your heavy breathing, his shallow pants and his heart beating so fast it seems as if it's about to leap out of his chest.

his mouth feels dry, his body feels hot.

"say that you're a pathetic loser virgin and then maybe i'll take care of that for you, okay?"

his eyebrows knot together as you press a hand against him, biting his lip to hold back a moan. "i-..."

you nod, prompting him to continue.

when he opens his eyes again, you're smiling.

"okay then. you have my attention now." you sit back against your own chair again. "come here."

he begins to stand up. "on your knees, beomgyu." face burning in shame, dick throbbing with humiliation, he shuffles towards you on his hands and knees until he sits between your legs.

"good boy." he shivers. "now, if you wanna take care of that, you're going to have to get off on my leg."

I don’t think I can say for EVERYONE, but — here’s a couple:

Crusch: Her own refusal to help Subaru when he came to her begging for her to save his loved ones. She gets it — she does — but holy crap is that a hard pill to swallow. She never wants to make a mistake like that again.

Anastasia: The sheer extent to which Emilia has apparently completely failed as Subaru’s liege. Holy shit. Subaru apparently having what she might very well consider a genuine mental disability comes as a close second, though.

Felt: The fact that Anastasia, Priscilla, and Crusch ALL abandoned Subaru at the same time. She didn’t like the nobility before, but that just — made her position SO much clearer to her.

Wilhelm: Subaru crawling away from the White Whale and crying for help. You can assume that this is now playing on loop in the back of his mind almost constantly.

Ferris: Just — the concept of Return By Death. It’s like it was purposefully designed to trigger him, specifically.

Julius: Subaru’s near-complete inability to recognize danger before it hurts him, or worse.

Ricardo: The First Trial, and the reveal that Subaru’s parents probably think he went and killed himself. He made the mistake of thinking of how he’d react if it had been him and Anastasia and — yeah. Traumatizing.

Mimi: The fact that she didn’t help Subaru when he came to her and her Lady for help. She completely failed him, didn’t she?

Eridna: Beatrice leaving him to die to the Wolgarm curse. Seeing him meet Echidna in the Sanctuary was a shock, but — the idea that his own contracted spirit left him to die offended her on a very personal level.

Reinhard: The fact that he apparently Was Not There when Subaru needed him most.

Rachins: The fact that he fucking killed Subaru in an alley that one time.

Rem: Seeing herself torture Subaru in the woods for hours on end. And then — everything she did after that. What the fuck, she had thought HE was the dangerous one—!

Ram: The fact that she killed Subaru in the woods. That — completely recontextualizes their entire relationship. What the fuck.

Otto: He threw him to the White Fucking Whale. …Seeing him trapped in that same damn cave by Petelgeuse is a close second, though.

Garfiel: Kidnapping him in that cave for three days. And also like, just — almost everything he did in those failed Arc 4 loops. What was he DOING?!

Beatrice: It’s a tie between him conversing with her mother and seeing herself leave him to die.

Emilia: Just — her poor knight. She didn’t want this. She didn’t want any of this!
