Zero Kelvin Headcanons
(I thought about writing headcanons for the ice-themed boy, but put it off for a while. Headcanons marked with * are from the general Mucha Lucha headcanons list. More to be added in the future.)
*Zero Kelvin generally can't stand summer and has to stay in an ice-cold place to protect himself from the heat.
*Zero Kelvin is such a huge fan of Christmas that he would get in a festive mood when it's barely past Thanksgiving, much to Pierre Del Fuego's annoyance.
He and his dad often stay in motels, as their igloo tends to melt in the warm climate of their area.
When he does get to visit an area that gets snowy winters, he feels like he’s in a playground, as he enjoys making snowballs, snowmen, snow angels, etc.
Having such pale skin, Zero Kelvin burns easily in the sun. Part of the reason why he wears sweaters and full-length pants is to protect himself from sunburn. It’s for this reason that he prefers most of his outfits to cover almost every inch of his skin (except his hands and parts of his face).
Zero Kelvin’s favorite sweets are ice cream, frozen yogurt, and snow cones. He is even one of those people who prefer to eat ice cream in colder weather.
Zero Kelvin’s parents are divorced and were practically polar opposites. While his dad is an ice-themed luchador, like his son, his mother, surprisingly, had a fiery theme (not unlike Pierre Del Fuego). They tried to make it work with the opposites-attract thing, but their differences forced them to eventually divorce. Zero Kelvin lives with his dad, who has primary custody over him. (partly inspired by @newlunapastel and @muchalucha-art‘s post about Zero Kelvin)

476 to go
Zero Kelvin (1995, dir. Hans Petter Moland): I took a long break from this project because I was feeling overwhelmed by how far I still had to go and it was making me dread watching all these movies.
I've been looking forward to Zero Kelvin for a while and was hoping it would get me excited again. It didn't. I liked it fine but it didn't show me anything I haven't seen a dozen times before.
The Blair Witch Project (1999, dir. Daniel Myrick, Eduardo Sánchez): Fully opposite experience with this one. I wasn't expecting much but I figured since it's short and it's summer - the only time I can watch properly scary movies, because I'm a sensitive soul - I might as well check it out.
And I loved it! The "gimmick" (if we wanna refer to an entire subgenre of horror that way) is used to incredible effect. I was on the edge of my seat for the entire second half and was peering through my fingers for the last part (sensitive soul that I am). It competely reignited my excitement for this project.
The Towering Inferno (1974, dir. John Guillermin): Bloated 70s cheese that only managed to make me care about half the characters and yet somehow kept me entertained for all 165 minutes! Paul Newman and Steve McQueen are two very sweaty men.
The Exorcist (1973, dir. William Friedkin): Horror movie season continues! I knew a lot about this movie already through cultural osmosis but the slow burn leading up to the exorcism surprised me. There was something that kept me from getting fully engaged (I think it was the editing) but between Linda Blair giving 110% in her performance and the hot priest, there was a lot to love.
#1001 movies#zero kelvin#the blair witch project#the towering inferno#the exorcist#i'm back!#got so burnt out on this project i didn't watch a single full length movie for almost three months#but i'm really excited about it again now so i think the break did me good

Mucha Lucha Zero Kelvin headcanons:
The name Zero Kelvin comes from the fact he's a total Physics nerd. His actual name is Kelvin Miguel Sanchez.
After the fiasco where the Igloo was stolen his family had a regular house built so they didn't have to worry about that again.
Kelvin is allergic to spicy peppers. His aversion to spicy food is due to his allergy.
Kelvin actually is great friends with Pierre Del Fuego and they enjoy snarking at each other.
Kelvin actually has some musical talents. He plays guitar and can sing really well. He just gets horrible stage fright if he has to sing or play guitar.
Until two weeks before they started school Kelvin wasn't sure if he wanted to be a Luchador like his dad or a doctor like his mother.
Kelvin can handle heat, but during the Hot, Hot, Hot episode he was suffering from the beginning stages of heat stroke.
Despite the fact his mom is a doctor, Kelvin is terrified of getting a shot.
Kelvin has two older sibling both Luchadores in their own right. But they don't talk to the family at all.
When Kelvin was about five years old he asked him mom why some kids who were training to be Luchadores had parents who weren't Wrestlers. His mother told him "Passion can be found in any profession" and he would find his own in time.
Kelvin had taken his mask off once when he was alone after locking the doors and closing the curtains in the house. He was shocked at how much he looked like his mom without it on. He later would not wear it for six months following El Malefico's defeat.
A year after El Malefico was defeated by Rikochet, Buena Girl, and The Flea Kelvin started to doubt his passion for Lucha Libre. It took six months of him studying in a regular school without wearing his mask, that he found his passion again.
While in a regular school Kelvin openly experimented by dating a guy named Ricardo. Despite going to different schools they still go on dates from time to time.
Kelvin openly sleeps with his baby blanket at night. He isn't ashamed of it and curls up with it every night.

He's a sweetie!
Zero Kelvin needs a summer outfit, the snow cone would keel over if he wore his normal get up out during hot weather.

How do you come up which character designs and why did you decide to make a show about lucha libre?
Also I’m a big fan of Zero Kelvin. Do you have any facts on him you’re willing to share?
Thanks for getting in touch!
Both Lili and myself became obsessed with lucha libre in the late 1990's - the moves, the masks, the outfits, the culture - and immediately knew that someone, somewhere, HAD to make an animated series about it.
Our inspiration for a lot of the characters actually came from real luchadores and their personalities. Of course we took them to cartoon extremes.
Sometimes, we just came up with catchy names, and the idea came from that. Zero Kelvin was a name I came up with, and Lili developed his look.
We purposely didn't do backstories and full profiles for the supporting characters for two reasons: 1) There wasn't time as the show was greenlit from our pitch, and it was straight into production, and 2) we preferred to see where the characters went once the storyboard process started. We didn't want to define the support characters too much, as we always felt the artists and writers needed some room to add their own creative suggestions.
Lili and I knew our characters so well though, and without thinking too much about it, that ZK's dad would have been called 'Polar 1500' whilst his mom wouldn't have been a luchador at all. I imagined here in the 'business' side of lucha libre...a promoter, reporter, model or agent with connections. Name? Probably something silly like...
ICE STATION DEBRA :D
Just kidding...I think it would be something 'hot' and she would be a polar opposite...
I'll stop now.
