It's finally here! The 'Countdown to Galentines Day' femslash February event is finally here! Beginning with...
SkySwd Zelink - Heaven
for more a sneak peek on the week leading up to valentines day's line up, check out my pinned!
*note: this takes place immediately after the events of Skyward Sword. Zelda and Link are t4t femme and butch lesbians respectively, she/her pronouns for both, and they have been in a loosely established relationship for ages. enjoy!
---
It was their first time in the Skies since Link finally drove her blade deep into Demise's sternum and put this whole monstrosity behind them.
Well, not their first time, not when they already had to ferry Groose back to Skyloft and guide down the curious inhabitants of the floating islands, lest the citizens of Skyloft go poking around below the thinning cloud layer on their own and fly straight into a monster camp that Link hadn't yet had the time to dispose of. Of course, after the flights back and forth and guided tours, complete with knights jumping at the chance to put their limited skills to the test as they whacked around lingering bokos and children marveling at the thick air, humidity, and hummingbirds, came the questions.
Groose, bless him, was kind enough to answer most questions the Skyloftians threw Link’s way and was heavy-handed enough with the ones who still pushed back that everyone knew better than to come to Link with anything. Everyone but Gaepora, of course. Because as much as he pretended to be a simple, old academic, the Headmaster was as stubborn as his daughter, and when either of them was on the warpath, no one walked away unscathed.
Link had been avoiding the old man and his big sad eyes demanding big, sad answers all day, dipping out of breakfast tents and around corners and behind trees, feeling awfully close to how she did when a Guardian was hot on her tail, and right now the ruined back rooms of the Sealed Temple-- all dusty cracked stone and remnants of the Sheikah who had kept watch here for centuries-- served as the perfect hiding spot. No one would think to look for Link here, except for Groose, maybe Pipit, and--
"Don't tell me you're hiding from Pa," A soft voice called.
"Zelda," Link squeaked, spinning, and flushed. "You startled me."
"Sounds like a guilty conscience talking," Zelda said, flashing her a cheeky smile. Or, it would be cheeky, if it didn't feel so damn sad under the surface.
"What's wrong?" Link wanted to ask, "What do you need? How can I help?" Those were the questions of the hour, weren't they? What wasn't wrong? What didn't they need? How could anyone possibly help, after tornados and demons and Demise? How could anything possibly be okay again?
Instead, Link untangled herself from the gloom of the Temple's corners and crept up to Zelda's side. She raised a hand and, upon receiving a soft nod, slipped it through the taller girl’s beaded braids, cupping her brown cheek.
“Perhaps,” Link admitted softly, moving closer, closer, and then Zelda was a breath away, their noses brushing. Link tilted her head in a silent question and Zelda answered it by sliding her head forward and closing the gap between them.
The kiss was soft, barely a brush of skin, but far from chaste, carrying a heavy, vibrating intensity just below the skin of their lips. Link’s fingers tightened around Zelda’s braids and the woman let out a soft, sad sound. Link pushed back.
“I’m fine,” Zelda said, pulling Link back to her, but Link realized with growing horror that Zelda’s eyes were wet, glossy, and red.
“I’m fine,” Zelda said again, pulling Link against her mouth. “Everything is fine. Just, just kiss me, damn it.”
Link took a hold of her cheeks and slowly pushed Zelda’s face away, resting their foreheads together.
“ ‘sorry,” Zelda murmured. Link pressed their foreheads tighter together.
“It’s okay to not be fine, ya know.” Link said, and Zelda shrugged.
Are we ever going to be fine? The Past, the Future, the Triforce—would that pressure ever fade?
Demise.
Link swallowed. She hadn’t mentioned the… the curse, if you could call the foul, powerful words Demise had spat her way after she pinned him down, Fi pulsing in his chest, a curse.
“Stop.” Zelda said suddenly, and Link instantly pulled back.
“No—I don’t, I don’t mean holding me, that’s nice, do more of that. Stop dooming.”
“…Dooming?”
“Dooming, glooming, wallowing. We’re both doing it, and you don’t get to tell me everything is fine and that I shouldn’t worry when you’re worrying too.”
Zelda took her hand, rolling it around on her own, inspecting the new calluses that Link never imagined in a million lifetimes that she would ever have.
“Come flying with me,” Zelda said, pressing a kiss to Link’s fingertips-- one, two, three, four, five. “You and I and the Sky. Like before.”
“Like before when you pushed me to my death, or—”
Zelda slapped her arm with a wet giggle. “How was I supposed to know that Crimson was missing—”
“Murdered by my own lover, abandoned by my beloved. Love is dead!”
“Shhh,” Zelda giggled, swatting a hand over Link’s mouth. Link licked it, and Zelda squealed.
“Fly with me,” she said, pulling Link closer. “I want to see the Sky again. It’s been so long.”
“You were on a bird with Groose yesterday unloading the Lumpy Pumkpin—”
Zelda leaned down and quieted her with a kiss. It was easy to melt into it, even with their cheeks both being dangerously close to damp.
“Come fly with me. It’s been too long.”
“Okay,” Link said finally, bringing her fingertips to her bottom lip. It tingled, as if Zelda’s own lips had been electric. Perhaps they were.
Zelda took Link’s hand from her mouth, slotting their fingers together, and yanked her out of the back exit of the Sealed Temple into the wild greenery where the Sealed Grounds and Faron’s rainforests met. Her face was bright again, and Link began to finally feel lighter than she had in days as Zelda let out a shrill whistle, calling down her loftwing. Link made a point of hoisting her on the bird’s back and tying her into the saddle, slapping Zelda’s hands away playfully when the girl insisted she could tie herself in.
“Not on my watch, your Grace.” Link said with a cheeky smile, plopping a kiss on the tip of her nose, before sending the bird into the air with a quick squeeze of the muscle between the bird’s massive wings. Behind her, Zelda was silent.
Shit.
“Zel…”
“I’m fine.”
“I shouldn’t have called you that. I’m sorry.”
Zelda shrugged, suddenly very interested in her bird’s feathers.
“It’s what I am, isn’t it? Her Grace.”
“No!”
“I am! This whole fucking adventure is because of it, there’s literally no point in pretending otherwise—”
“Okay! Okay, so you’re still Her, somehow, someway. But you know what you really are?” Link said, shifting closer. Zelda looked away from her.
“You’re clever. And kind. And brave, so brave. You’re brilliant, just so smart, and most importantly? You’re my Zelda. Always have been. Always will be.”
Zelda finally looked to her, eyes prickling with tears.
“Link—”
“I love you.”
Zelda’s eyes went wide.
“…What?”
“I do. I really love you. I always have.”
Zelda’s warm, brown eyes were growing redder and redder until she buried her head in her hands, shaking her head, sending her beads rattling around her. Link drew closer, wrapping her arms around her, cradling her close.
“My Zelda. My Zelda.”
They were quiet after that, just gliding, hovering above the cloud layer as the sun sank down, painting the clouds pink and orange and slowly sinking to blue and black. Link rocked Zelda, running her hands through her beads and braids. Things were never going to go back to how they were before, Link realized. Or, maybe not realized, but finally actualized in her brain. Ghriahim, Demise… there was no changing that. No reversing it.
“When Demise and I fought…” She whispered, Zelda shifting against her chest, “I thought for a moment I was dreaming. That I was back in the Sky and would wake up any minute now. The place, the dimension, he brought me to… the sky there was unlike anything I had ever seen. The heavens incarnate.”
“How could something so terrible create anything beautiful?” Zelda murmured against her skin, and Link shrugged.
“I mean, sucks it took all this for me to finally use the ‘l’ word but—”
Zelda giggled against her, and finally showed her face, wet, snotty, and swollen, but still the most beautiful thing Link had ever seen.
“It wasn’t the heavens incarnate.” Link said softly. “I know, because you are.”
Zelda’s tear-stained eyes went wide, and Link resisted the urge to kiss her, instead just holding her closer still. They could kiss later, could explore one another while she promised her Zelda that she loved her until her lips were blue. For now, Link was happy to just hold her heaven incarnate.

Hey You!
Do you like video games?
Are you nostalgic for a classic from your youth?
Do you like women?
Do you like it when women kiss?
Then do we have the event for you!
The Yuri Shipping Olympics (@yuriolympics) is a 16+ event where f/f creators of all stripes get together to fight the shortage of f/f media, in fandom and beyond. This year, I’m leading Team E-Rated Games (though in practice we might have some ships from E10 or T rated games, thanks Smash Bros). If that seems up your alley, why not come in and join us? We would be happy to have you here. Most people involved in creating are writers and artists, but anything from edits to videos to even cosplays would be great!
And if you’re not into it, but you still want to participate, not to worry! You can join another team (lots of different options right now), you could sign on to lead your own team, or you could even come in to be a voting member!
Discord link is right here, and have a yuriful day!

[ID: a digital half-body drawing of Zelda and Sam from Dimension 20's The Seven. They're drawn from the side with Zelda on the left and Sam on the right side. Zelda is cupping Sam's face to kiss her with her eyes closed and a smile on her face. The background is pastel pink with yellow beams of light. Below the two of them "seven minutes in heaven" is written made to look like cut-outs from a newspaper. End ID]

Note
The complaints about femslash are definitely about the perceive lack of a specific subset of femslash: that of canonically female characters, written by women, with other women as the intended audience.
Because "Rule 63" made it to the list of Internet Rules for a reason, and that is fucktons of horny straight dudes gleefully genderbending Link so she can have lesbian sex with Midna or Zelda or Malon or whoever else. Having the Halo leads shuck their armor like Samus to reveal they're also women Drawing art of superheroines scissoring each other or the male superheroes getting turned into chicks and dominated by villainesses.
Like. There is tons of femslash out there, if you know where to look, and most of the people who are complaining about low F/F numbers on Ao3 are often also whining about the above existing.

Countdown to Galentines Day Day 2: Hyrule Warriors Zelimpa - Dying Words
>:)
trigger warnings for this one! major character death, severe burns! read with care. zelimpa is my ride or die femslash ship and writing this was just >:)))))
---
It wasn’t hard to lose track of someone in the heat of battle. It all begins well enough, with your second in command standing inches from you, her back to yours, barking orders one moment and swearing in Sheikah under her breath in another as she swung her naginata, until she vanishes into the crowd of lizalfo. Zelda was one of the few Hylians trusted with the knowledge of Impa’s mother tongue—few knew how to even recognize the long, rolling ‘R’s and deep, heavy ‘L’s, the language kept so far under wraps that to the average ear, it was simple nonsense. But Zelda knew. Oh Gods, she knew, knew how to translate Impa’s rage on the battlefield, her frustration over a war table, her despair as Zelda read funeral rite after funeral rite, watching the casualties of a week of fighting behind left to rot in mass graves under the sun.
Knew how Sheikah sounded when it was purred into her mouth, when breathed into her ear in between waves of pleasure, when mouthed onto her skin, her breasts and thighs, when spoken to her like a secret as they lay tangled together for a moment, just a moment, the words hanging beautifully between them as Impa traced tringles across Zelda’s bare stomach, swearing fealty to her Princess with such adoration that to Zelda, the strange tongue was as beautiful as a holy choir.
But none of that mattered, because in that moment, Zelda couldn’t find Impa.
“Where’s the General?” She shouted over the clammer of swords, green blood splattered across her face and staining the golden gleam of her breast plate. The captain who stood but a few meters to her left turned with panic in his eyes.
“Sir Link called for aide—I thought you knew. A northeastern keep—”
Zelda held up a hand and the captain’s mouth clicked shut. “Understood.” The thought of Impa alone on the other side of the battlefield made her anxious, tightness twinging in her chest, but Impa was a diligent and well trained soldier, and the Hero of Hyrule was fighting shoulder to shoulder with her. They would be fine. They would.
… Right? Zelda couldn’t fight back the image that seeped behind her eyes: Impa bleeding, Impa broken, Impa bisected or gutted or run through, Impa trampled under clover hooves and claws—
Zelda tightened her grip on her rapier, turning to the summoner at the center of the keep. Now was not the time for pointless what ifs. Secure the keep and her people’s lives, and then she could spiral. The aeralfos summoner blinked at her with painfully intelligent eyes, rising into the sky with two beats of its wings. Zelda grit her teeth. The summoner was sending out waves of troops faster than her soldiers could snipe them out of the air, and her frustration with the damn thing grew with each pump of its black and green, leathery wings.
Damn nasty lizard.
It was as easy as breathing to draw her rapier into the air, pulling the magic from inside her chest and forming it into a bow string, pulling the string taunt, sending the light magic embedded in the holy sword straight for the beast. The light that resonated off the newly formed arrows lept outward at the surrounding monsters like a solar flare, drawing them in with holy light and encasing them in gold and amber before exploding outwards. The keep filled with shrill, monstrous cries as light ripped through the wave of monsters. Then light arrow struck true, right between the aeralfos summoner’s eye. The creature dropped, and Zelda’s rapier, its job completed, faded from its skull, reappearing in her hand.
Zelda flicked a new splatter of blood from her cheek. Disgusting. She may have been raised in the art of war, in the art of destruction, but the carnage would never stop turning her stomach.
Zelda finally noticed the vibration around her throat. The gossip stone. It had been buzzing for minutes now, the intensity growing, but she’d been too focused on the summoner to take the time to listen in. She brushed her fingertips over the glowing blue stone at the base of her throat, and with a crackle the sound of a battlefield far away swept over her.
“Princess!”
Ah, Proxi. The fairy’s shrill voice was soothing on Zelda’s panicked ears. It had taken her a little aback when Link, her third in command, some common soldier with holy blood to his name, told her that all communication would be through his little fairy friend. The man, mute as a rock, could sign, and did on occasion, but more often than not the little ball of light spoke for him by, well, by proxy.
“Princess, we need help—”
“General Impa was just sent to your aide, was she not?”
“That’s the problem, your Grace—Volga showed up half way through and made a real mess of things, Link took him out but Impa, she’s, she’s burned real bad and—”
“I’m on my way.” Zelda said, being sure not to let any emotion creep through her tone. Now was not the time for panic. That would help no one.
“Princess—”
Zelda silenced the gossip stone.
“Captain Jameson, be sure to fortify this keep and redistribute what you need; we just gained lang, I shan’t lose it just as quickly. Capital Ralis, can you handle a continued push to the east?”
“Yes, your Grace!”
“Good. Captain Sparke—with me.”
The captain, a short, squat woman with a squished nose, snapped to attention with a nod. Zelda kept her rapier at the ready as they rushed from the keep, moving to the northeast. They found surprisingly little resistance, and a plethora of leaking monster corpses, sliced near in two, some by the harsh elegance of Impa’s blade, and others by the precision of the Master Sword. Link and Impa played well together, and the carnage they had left behind was a beautiful sight to behind.
“Princess!”
Zelda’s head whipped to the right at the sound of her name in that shrill, jingle bell of a voice. Proxi. She picked up speed, pushing through a crowd of soldiers who stared gaped mouthed—but not at her. Zelda was used to the staring of her soldiers, their awe and reverence, but their gaze was turned inward, to the center of the crowd. Link knelt, his hands moving quickly and efficiently, three empty potion bottles by his side. Beside him lay a pulversized mess of mutilated flesh and bone, the Master Sword laying in the blood leaking from it.
Volga.
Link hadn’t noticed her approach, brow furrowed as he emptied his canteen onto clean bandages from his kit and laid them across the body in front of him, so badly burned that it might as well not even be a body. Zelda’s breath caught. Poor creature.
“Link,” She called, pushing through the crowd. “Proxi said aid was needed—where’s…?”
Link looked up to her with watery, aching eyes.
“Link. Where’s Impa.”
Link wiped his mouth and went back to covering the fourth degree burns across the soldier’s body. The soldier made a raspy sound and Link softly shushed them, holding the canteen to their lips.
They didn’t drink, seemingly too weak to move their head. Link looked up anxiously at Zelda, his face hidden behind that horrid mask of his. His hands moved with simple, pained elegance.
I’m sorry. She saved my life. I’m so sorry.
Zelda took careful steps to the soldier’s side, not wanted to spook her. The soldier let out a wobbly groan, seemingly trying to sit up, and Zelda clucked her tongue.
“At ease, soldier. You did wonderfully. We’ll take it from here. Just rest.”
A charred hand, shaking like a crispened leaf, grabbed her wrist, and Zelda met the eyes of the woman who had saved Link’s life. Her face was so badly burned to be recognized as human, let alone identified, but…
But Zelda knew those scarlet eyes. Her breath became a spiked ball in her throat, catching in her lungs, and she shoved Link to the side.
“Impa? Link, Link, what the fuck happened.”
Link pointed to Volga’s corpse, and Zelda whipped her head to him with furious speed.
“That’s it? That’s all you have to say?”
Link looked like he might cry. Zelda slowly laid down beside Impa, her Impa, and, careful not to touch any burns, sealed as much space between them as possible.
“I’ll send for a healer,” She promised, “and you’ll be just fine. With enough potions, and a fairy, and a little luck—”
Impa made a horrible sound that Zelda realized was supposed to be a laugh. Her mouth moved, the charred hole it now was, and Zelda could hear rolled ‘R’s and heavy ‘L’s, but not the words the Sheikah was saying. She strained, trying ot pick meaning from the sounds fighting against Impa’s crispened tongue.
“Wait, say, say it again. I, I couldn’t hear you right. Say it again.”
Impa’s breath was a whistle.
“Impa, please, just say it again, won’t you? Come on now, just one more time? Impa? Impa?”
The hand around her wrist slipped free, no strength available to hold the fingers closed. One the ground of the north eastern keep, Impa went still.
“Impa, come on—”
Zelda felt calloused, uncertain hands on her shoulders. Link.
“How could you.” She breathed. It wasn’t a question. “How could you let him do this.”
Link, like aways, was silent. Feet away from him, skin black and flaking in the wind, Impa was as well.

Hi!! I've been thinking about the femslash event so I'm curious, are there any characters that you'd like to see with/ship with Nuala during the femslash event? If other people want to make Nuala femslash stuff, do you have any ideas or recs?
Hello 🪷,
I am looking forward to participate in the femslash! as well!
Well, Nuala is a pansexual character and as all are well aware, I am mostly shipping her with Morpheus (any gender Morpheus).
Nuala and Lucien were a couple in "the Dreaming" and the thought of NualaxLucienne is a very plausible WLW in my books.
I feel I have zero right to tell people about what ships are acceptable. I know I am the Nuala presides, but I can't tell what people should like. As long as she is not put in a situation that grossly misinterprets her character, you will never hear me complain.
Some WLW ships of the Sandman that I endorse to a variable degree:
Nuala x Lady Morpheus (SapphicFlower) - Lady Morpheus is a separate canonical version of Morpheus so I think they are different to Sandflower. Dynamic wise as well. I think Lady Morpheus, which unlike our Morpheus is not self-destructive, recognizes the pretty fairy with the kind tone and she dotes on her greatly.
Nuala x Lucienne - It is technically canon, but also not really. But I like it a lot, I think they gather flowers and read together.
!!! Bast x Johanna (big ship of mine) - very obscure and crackship, but if anyone has the time, I will go into detail why those are LESBIANS!
!!! Wanda x Death (big ship of mine) - second pair of extremely important for my mental health LESBIANS!
!!! Lyta x Calliope - the MOTHERSHIP. IF YOU GET IT, YOU GET IT. IF YOU DON'T...try.
As to where to read about any WLW Nuala ships, there isn't any. Almost all written Nuala content, with the exception of I believe two, is written by me. There is a very big Sandflower Project that is taking the majority of my time in the last four months and will probably continue for the next at least six, so I do not have the free time to write as much free form as I want.
However, I do most ARDENTLY hope that a lot of people will participate in the femslash and will write about Nuala, Lucienne, Johanna, Lucifer, Foxglove, Hazel, Barbie, Nada, Death, Desire, Despair, Titania, Alianora, Lyta, Calliope, Rose, Wanda, Chantal, Zelda, Gault. We have so many beautiful WOMEN and Non-binary femme representation to write and celebrate!
Tumblr media
If I can help with anything else, my asks are always open! <3
Love,
Li 🪷
