I'm noticing a funny pattern with Ekko and Arcane adjacent media. In the latest trailer for the game 2XKO (formerly Project L), Ekko not only makes resemble his Arcane version (canon?), but his Z-Drive is greenish-blue and shimmer pink.

Before that the Roit x Arcane released the Gilded au, for Piltover and Zaun characters in a world where Zaun and Piltover didn't (or at least had yet to) split. It makes me think that for season 2, Ekko will be forced to use shimmer when things get dire, and it could be the thing that helps him crack the z-drive.

Maybe Jinx made a better sales pitch the Silco ever did.

bear with me for a second yall but around 2 am after being awake for 23 hours combined with a couple drinks from being out with some friends, i was suddenly hit ideas of things that i thought could’ve helped season 2 to feel more satisfying for each character arc lmao 😭😭

definitely not saying this is perfect nor have i thought too much about if there would be any plot holes but i think it works for the most part

SEASON 1 CHANGES GOING INTO SEASON 2

-no ambessa introduction in season 1; or at least keep her in mel’s flashback or something so we still have a sense of why mel is against war

as much as i love ambessa, it feels like her arc got other character’s stories to be shortened. not having her play a role in season 2 really helps with allowing other characters to have more time on screen and with a couple changes they can still follow similar arcs they had a in season 2

-ending of season 1 plays out the same with jinx shooting the rocket at the council

ACT 1

-pretty much stays the same; no introduction of the black rose but instead after mel discovers that she could have powers, she leaves piltover to go on some journey to discover what it could be

-caitlyn still forms her strike team to try to catch jinx but after it fails she uses her power and status as a kiramman to place martial law on zaun

-basically everyone else still keeps their exact storyline from act 1

ACT 2

-jinx, who also agrees to be the symbol for the rebel group, is motivated by isha to mend her relationship with vi and discovers that she is pit fighting

no introduction of vander/warwick either; the time spent looking for him in episode 5 is instead focused on vi’s trauma and the sisters still end up on better terms

-cait is still inflicting martial law on zaun and starts to have a change of heart when something happens making her solely responsible for the killing of a mother in zaun, paralleling that to how she felt towards jinx killing cassandra. we begin to see her loosen her control of zaun in episode 6 while making efforts to try to atone for the damage she caused

-after helping vi, jinx has her work with the rebel group and they form a list of demands they find acceptable to produce to piltover that basically starts the process for zaun to become independent. vi is the one to bring these to cait with the hope that their relationship makes it more likely for it to be approved

-vi and cait make amends and cait apologizes

-jayce returns and still kills viktor at his cult

-singed is also present but instead of his experiments being on warwick, they’re on something else that is still intended to help his daughter; learns about viktor and his abilities and goes to him try to find a way to harness them for himself to use for oriana but isn’t able to figure it out before jayce kills viktor

-mel learns more about herself as a mage

ACT 3

-keep episode 7 the same

-episode 8 is preparation for war between piltover/zaun and viktor who is revived by singed like he was in the show

-zaun agrees to help fight viktor because they are on better terms with piltover after their proposal was accepted for their independence

-cait and jinx have a bit of a heart to heart moment and end their rift

-mel has returned from her self discovery journey and has her powers developed to where they were in act 3

-ekko returns with the zdrive and uses it to help win the fight

-final battle plays out but no jinx “death” since warwick isn’t present

-viktor and jayce scenes play out like it did in act 3

-cait steps down from her role in the kiramman house out of remorse for her actions and mel steps in to run piltover

-cait becomes a PI and we see her using her detective skills

-jinx, vi, and ekko help with rebuilding zaun to be a healthier place for its people

-caitvi are together and vi also helps cait with her investigative work sometimes

-singed could be successful with getting oriana back or not idk lol

The MelJay Anomaly

This actually isn’t a MelJay analysis post but a theory I’ve had about them for a while. I said this on TikTok but no one responded 😭 so I don’t know if it’s good or not.

Okay, so we know that the present timeline is the one that “worked”. I think that is because of 3 reasons or anomalies.

Was the wild rune Mage Vik gave kid Jayce

Was Ekko and the Zdrive

Is actually Mel and Jayce themselves.

The first two are basically confirmed and don’t need any explanation. Number 3 is where things get interesting. It is implied that in an indefinite # of timelines except this one, Jayce is either banished, dead, or probably imprisoned. At first I chalked this up to whatever runes Vik gave him or just plain bad luck. Then I started thinking to myself, Jayce never met Mel or they never fell in love. I started joking that their love was so transcendental that it kept them and most of the timeline alive. Then I started to think back to the fact that it was Mel distracting the guard and not snitching that kept both Jayce and Vik from being banished. It was Mel getting Jayce on the council that gave him full autonomy over Hextech and protecting him and his work. Mel and Jayce falling in love brought back out the soft spined idealist, which caused Mel to start protecting Hextech and Jayce in overdrive.Thats when it stopped being funny and started getting serious🧐. It’s almost always Mel at every pivotal moment for Jayce that’ll either get him locked up or banished and every time she saves him.Mel was the golden guard keeping Jayce and by extension literally everyone alive, and she did it all while being the fox(mostly).

Despite all the manipulations throughout timelines that Jayce unknowingly endured; I’m not talking about Jayce being manipulated I’m more so talking about the environments and scenarios. I like to think that Jayce falling in love with Mel is one thing he had full control of and it was the final thing that people alive. That warms my hopeless romantic heart.

- soeaking of maddy im too fucked up to have any analytical thoughts about her rn so glad she died but i’ll probably regret saying that after some clear thought

It's not consciously, Ekko swears it, but still he repeats the same steps every time. His love always turns into obsession, part of his heart mingling things and signs together, making him confuse both feelings.

He really wishes it didn't happen with you, though. You were perfect. When you got into the Firelights, his eyes sparkled in interest, but he started easy.

Ekko greeted you into the family with open arms, offering to be of help when needed, he made you feel at home in this new place.

Every time you'd meet, he would greet you with a smile, ask about your day, tell you to take care. One day he even accompanied you to lunch.

Your heart couldn't help but grow fond of him, each day looking forward to see him again, maybe finally ask him to go out somewhere. I mean, after that gathering were he was so loose talking with you and some other Firelights, the way he looked at you across the crowd of people. It must've mean something, right?

But suddenly, after two months of this back and forth, it was like he changed personalities. He would just give a tight smile when seeing you and continue on his duty, spare a glance and that was it.

Of course, you were confused, your heart hurting like a little kid being ignored, but you had to continue after all.

Ekko didn't want it to end like this, but his heart had found something else to play with.

Jinx tá tentando comprar na feira um negócio de uma velha que parece uma bruxa, mas a velha não quer baixar o preço da mercadoria. Jinx não quer pagar tão caro, e acaba irritando tanto a velha que a mulher agora parece querer fulminar ela com os olhos. Ao invés disso, ela faz um movimento no ar, um cajado aparece e ela dispara contra Jinx, que se abaixa bem rápido por causa dos reflexos bons.

O feitiço escapa de Jinx, mas termina atingindo a pessoa que tava na parte de trás de Jinx, comprando na outra barraca, Ekko. Ele diminui de tamanho na mesma hora e vira... um gatinho marrom com listras brancas. Jinx olha surpresa do gato pra a velha, mas agora a barraca tá VAZIA.

E todas as coisas pra vender SUMIRAM. Ela bate no balcão da barraca e xinga a velha de tudo que é nome. Quando termina, escuta o gatinho-ekko miando mexendo com as patinhas no zdrive caído no chão, ele quer voltar no tempo pra reverter o feitiço, mas como gatinho ele não consegue...

Ele está oficialmente a mercê de Jinx pra tentar voltar a ser humano. Ela coloca a alça do zdrive no ombro e pega gatinho-ekko, colocando ele bem na altura dos seus olhos. Ele não parece muito feliz. "Agora somos só você e eu, gatinho rabugento!" Ela pressiona a ponta do nariz dela no dele, feliz, e recebe um miado nada satisfeito. :D

I really liked these additions and wanted to share them. I especially like the point about Jayce's line, "This is what you see?" because I think it did go over my head a bit what he's saying and I think you got it right what he meant. That of course Viktor thought he was doing the right thing if what he saw was so beautiful. But only once a literal hole is blown into the Hexcore can he actually see that it's not a beautiful starscape of souls who are beyond pain, it's actually a web of parasitic control that he helped create.

(Arcane Meta) The Hexcore was already controlling Viktor in S1

As a follow-up to my post about how the Hexcore's control over Viktor in S2 is probably best compared to the One Ring from Lord of the Rings, in that it magically amplifies desires but to what extent its manipulations could be confused with free will is very hard to determine, I wanted to offer this piece of comparison to Lord of the Rings as further evidence that Viktor is under some level of control from the Hexcore as early as S1.

I was fortunate enough to take a course on Tolkien's works in college and there's one point our professor made that stuck with me. He pointed out that Frodo was always doomed to fail at casting the One Ring into Mt. Doom because he was already unable to do so back at Bag End, before he'd even spent significant time with the Ring.

It's less apparent in the show than in the book, so here's the quote,

"To Frodo's astonishment and distress the wizard threw it suddenly into the middle of a glowing corner of the fire. Frodo gave a cry and groped for the tongs; but Gandalf held him back."

Though his time with the Ring has only barely just begun, already Frodo is distressed at the thought of harm coming to the Ring and is trying to save it, before he even stepped out his door. How then was he ever supposed to throw it into the fire of Mt. Doom after having spent months in close proximity to it?

Well, this moment reminds me rather strikingly of this one:

This is only S1, the corruption of the Hexcore has only spread to Viktor's hands and leg, but it has also just killed Sky right in front of Viktor. He has been weeping on the ground, mourning her when he then resolves to destroy it and rises up, brandishing the stool.

Unlike Frodo, who had no idea what the Ring was at that point and still was distressed by the idea of harm coming to it, Viktor just saw the Hexcore kill someone right in front of him. And yet, like Frodo, he can't bring himself to harm it.

The Hexcore then actually physically shies away from the stool, which is where I get the notion at least that it is sentient, and then because Viktor had the audacity to raise a hand to it and fail to follow through, it knocks him out like a light:

This is why Viktor has to beg Jayce to destroy the Hexcore, and even there he can barely get the words out, and he only makes this request while far away from the lab and the Hexcore.

I would argue that the reason he doesn't explain more to Jayce there is because he might even be unable to, even asking that much might have been a strain. Or, I'll admit, perhaps there's any number of human reasons he didn't, like shame and fear.

Shame and fear that is of course gone by the time the Hexcore has consumed him when he finally tells Jayce what happened to Sky.

I would argue that the look of hopelessness and disappointment on Viktor's face when he decides to leave Jayce isn't because of the weapons blueprints he might have spotted on the lab table. Or at least, it's not only that.

Personally, I see that as Viktor knowing that he was now so physically consumed by the Hexcore he had no hope at all of fighting it anymore. To quote Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, "I knew myself, at the first breath of this new life, to be more wicked, tenfold more wicked, sold a slave to my original evil..."

So when people ask why Viktor is suddenly going along with everything the Hexcore wants, when before he wanted to destroy it, I would argue this: because it was already infecting him in S1 and in S1 he realized this and begged Jayce to destroy it because he knew it could stop him from doing so already. But because he was unwilling, or unable, to tell Jayce more about why he wanted it destroyed, Jayce instead defied his very strange request and used it to save Viktor's life as they had originally planned.

From that point on, I would argue, Viktor is under the thrall of the Hexcore and is carrying out its virus-like desire to spread itself and grow. I mean, just look at him, it now has consumed nearly every part of his body except his face. By the end, it has taken that from him as well.

Viktor might still have his own intelligence on top of it, but how much is very much the topic of ongoing debate. For the man to say that there is always a choice to suddenly say that there is no choice, the man who tried to destroy the Hexcore now freely spreading its power, and who once lashed out at the very notion of the use of Hextech as weapons making his own army of apex Hextech robots and using the Hexclaw against Jayce, and who looks so horrified at what he has done once the Hexcore's shell has been broken off of him by Ekko's bomb and Jayce's revelations, I would argue that we should assume at least some level of control was overpowering Viktor for much of S2, and that is exactly the fate he was trying to avoid in S1.
