midnight and pain for uhhhhhh benny bean <3 (oc asks: not-so-nice edition)

Midnight

Ben is pretty nocturnal already, he has been his entire life, and he teaches his classes late in the day to account for this. If he's up especially late, tossing and turning, he's probably thinking about his family. His little sisters that he feels he didn't try hard enough for or the mystery of his biodad, usually. His mother and father are a subject he tries to avoid, because if he thinks too hard about either of them, he just ends up stewing about them all over again. Imagines apologies from them that will never come. I honestly don't think he has actual nightmares super often, he lucid dreams more than the average person and if he's in a bad dream and realizes that it is, in fact, a dream, he's able to just shrug and walk away/change whatever it is his brain is throwing at him. His most uneasy dreams involve him experiencing literal powerlessness while being trapped, given how a lot of his personal identity and empowerment is wrapped up in his magic. Sometimes he even wonders if it's too much. He isn't really a sleep-deprived person. He used to be, when he'd push himself nearly to the breaking point in undergrad, but he's a little too old for that now, and I think over the years he's given himself a cutoff point of, like, 4am. If he's still not on his way to falling asleep, he smokes up. THC is still a fairly effective sleep aid for him when he's intending to use it that way. He also takes a lot of naps on the weekends. Back in undergrad, he spent those wee hours of the morning writing papers, and his major had him writing a lot of them. Long before that, when he was little, he'd manifest light for his youngest sister and act as a night light.

Pain

This ask seems to be more in the physical pain direction, and I like that/will be sticking to it. I feel like I write a lot about emotional pain. Ben's been pretty lucky to avoid serious physical injury for a lot of his life, though early in his line cook days, he probably acquired some bad cuts on his hands from clumsy knife usage. At least one or two have left scarring, but he kind of laughs them off-- once they were taken care of, they weren't super scary or distressing to him. He's significantly tattooed and pierced (including a hand tattoo and a nipple piercing! Yeowch!), so his pain tolerance is at least a little above average. I think his tolerance is less "I barely even feel it lol" and more "oh this does hurt but I can tough it out and keep a straight face." The worst physical pain he's ever felt had to have been when he was little and trying to swear off spellcasting and keep that energy bottled up. He went nearly two weeks before doubling over and vomiting lava, and while he can withstand temperatures much higher than most people can (which I'll get to), it was still horrible, and him being so young didn't help. Now that he's older and more practiced (which is what's helped his body build up such an insane heat tolerance, and this resistance only applies to heat and burns, his bones break as easily as anyone else's for instance), he's leaned on a turned-on flat-top with his arm. Ben barely noticed until a coworker realized and screamed, at which point he finally screamed to cover his magic ass. The resulting burn also wasn't nearly as bad as one would realistically expect it to be from his arm making full contact with that grill for nearly a full minute.

Hello readers! Thanks to everyone who's read this far. the scripts for Chapters 1 and 2 are complete but it's still gonna take me some time to finish the art. As some of you may know I completed all of the prologue pages before deciding to publish them, but doing so for the full chapters would take such a long time, I'll probably settle for realising things in batches. All this is to say that you probably won't be seeing Chapter 1 for a long while yet, but please feel free to visit me on my Tumblr where I'll be happy to answer asks about this project in the meantime.

Meet Dionysus, or Dion for short. He's originally a Minecraft OC/Gijinka (bonus points if you can guess what block), but also just hangs out in my own silly fictional world <3

By day he's a guy riddled with ADHD and Social Anxiety, and by night... well he's still that, but he works as a bartender! Unfortunately, it's hard to not be noticed when you're 6'7". He shares a flat in London with his older sister and younger brother (also Gijinkas). He can be a bit of a grouch with a negative streak, but really he's just a poor little meow meow that's terrified of making a fool out of himself.

He's a kind soul when you get him to open up, and likes tea, dry humor, and rainy days. Come give him a kiss or something!

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry for me has the same kind of tender mysticism people associate with Vincent Van Gogh

One a writer that draws, and the other a painter that writes; both sharing the ideal of finding joy and love in the little things - joy tainted with melancholy, often, but joy nonetheless - and love. So much of it.

And both men gone too soon.

Vincent's paintings still have an impact on people, as do his letters. Antoine's writing still touches many, as do his doodles.

“Oh, it’s been so long...” Relax, Lazare, you’re only 41. “But I recall being best at French, and the English and Spanish courses I was taking. My favorite, however, was definitely drama, of course.”

Meanwhile, Reid leans back with his feet up on his desk. “Well, I’m a pie guy, I guess! Not too picky about what kind it is, either, but I do particularly like apple and pumpkin. And aside from pie, carrot cake’s pretty good.”

“Um...” Zan glances away shyly. “I haven’t thought about it much, since no one has asked me on a date. I prefer to do my own thing, usually. But... I’d definitely want something in nature. Back home, I suppose I’d just take someone on a walk around Nahana-Ehene, but here on Earth, an arboretum, trail, or a trip to a national park would all be my picks. I feel like conversation happens more spontaneously and genuinely when you’re just out in nature with people.”

I know its hard to reteach yourself, but you're not a fraud or fake artist. Theres absolutely nothing wrong with both enjoying and producing content for something thats popular at the moment! Tbqh I dont think your art is extremely rough or unrefined, but even if it was rougher theres nothing wrong with that kind of style! Honestly I love seeing your art, it makes me smile (or yell if it's angst) to see whether it's original or fanart content! If its stuff you enjoy drawing then keep drawing it!

i got this the first time and didn’t think it fit very well but the more i thought about it the more i think maybe it does. Sun’s major character development from growing up was to stop caring so much about what other people thought of him, and it did him a world of good. He’s confident and self-assured and I’ve said before that his hidden inner strength is bravery. He knows exactly who he is and he doesnt care if you don’t. if nobody will respect him he will respect only himself. and he’s going to do everything in his power to keep the Khans treading water
