I rewatched the trailer for the fifth time and I thought “hey, what’s Zavala glancing at here?” And then I went “no, that’s always been on his armor… right?”

My first ever animated video is finally done!! It's been 2 straight months of hard work learning to animate and improving my video editing skills, and I'm super psyched to be able to share it with you all. I've wanted to make something else since the response to Lemon Boy from last year was so good, so here's a little retrospective on where we started and how far we've come, just before Final Shape.

Cayde: ❝ That's your Zavala impression? ❞

Drifter, casually: ❝ What? I can hear ol' blue doin' it. ❞

Ghost, also in his best Zavala voice: ❝ Looks like a sticky pillow... ❞

Cayde: ❝ I don't care for it... Classical music. ❞

(everyone laughs)

Zavala: ❝ What's going on in here? What are you all doing? ❞

Cayde: ❝ Commander! Hey! Nothing, just- eatin' some marshmallows. Care for one? ❞ (slowly pushes him the bag while everyone watches with baited breath)

Zavala: ❝ Marsht-mellow... ❞ (eats one, begins giggling with delight at the taste)

Drifter, grinning in smug pride: ❝ Ha! I knew it. ❞

Hi just watched the new trailer and you said that your open to insane ramblings of madwomen so;

I'm so not normal about this. I just got these blorbos why is Bungie pulling them apart in front of me. I am hoping and praying that Ikora survives but shit's not looking too good right now. Also hoping that Zavala doesn't go insane but like I care less about him.

Also desperately clinging to my pile of side characters and hoping Bungie doesn't direct their wrath upon any of them either.

I FEEL YOU!!!!! I FEEL YOU SO MUCH OH MY GOD.

I honestly think Ikora will ultimately be fine. Exactly 0.7 seconds after getting shot by that Hydra she was about to explode the universe with a Nova Bomb so i choose to believe she's completely fine (considering also we can clearly see Ophiuchus healing her).

I am absolutely worried about Zavala though. I understand that to newer players he might be pretty irrelevant but i promise you that this is SUCH a big deal. Maybe i'm speaking nonsense but to me, the Witness having Zavala as it's main target makes zero sense. They said in the vidoc they wanted the godslayer, and that'd be us; and even if they went for some other Guardian, there's probably better choices than Zavala. Ikora is freakishly strong, if i had to pick i'd probably want her as a Disciple. The only thing that i can think of is that Zavala seems to be the easiest one to emotionally manipulate: he's been vulnerable since Amanda died, and apparently Season of the Haunted was not enough for him to get over Safiyah and Hakim (his wife and son). Crazy to me how all that effort seems to have been wasted.

As for the side characters, i believe there won't be too many major deaths. The characters i personally think are in danger are definitely Zavala, and i also feel like when we reach the end of the campaign, Cayde will "fade", since he's most likely the product of a wish. I do hope we get him as a destination vendor, but i wouldn't count on it. I also feel something might happen to Crow and Mara, but also Elsie. I know she never shows up but she's the one who kickstarted all this, she has to have a role in the final showdown.

Tl;dr: im not normal about this either. if my blorbos die i die

Destiny 2: Vanguard Ranks

All That Matters: some thoughts on Destiny 2, player narrative agency, and what should happen next.

Spoilers under the break for Season of Defiance’s Mission:Jailbreak and thoughts on what I feel should happen next.

So, back at the launch of Lightfall, Amanda Holliday’s aircraft was shot down attempting to stop the Witness from meeting the Traveler.  After we rescue her from the Shadow Legion, she decides to remain on the front lines with Devrim, Crow, and Misraaks, working as one of the newly knighted Queensguard.  With her previous vendor duties inherited by Rahool, a lore book and cutscene dedicated to her past and her motives, and a trailer that practically screamed “this season, someone dies,”  the writing was definitely on the wall for Amanda to die this season.  Today, upon hearing her mention Cayde in the initial story briefing, I knew her time was up.  Filled with dread at what I knew was coming, I started the Mission: Jailbreak and hoped against everything that there would be a surprise at the end.  There wasn’t much of one, excluding yet more proof that Eramis isn’t irredeemable, but also setting up the dominos for her to possibly face the business end of Crow’s Golden Gun before the next season is up. First of all, damn Bungie could not have been unluckier with this timing.  The scene of Zavala grieving over a covered body literally 3 days after the passing of Lance Reddick has been unavoidably bound to that real world loss, and caused both a pain many players weren’t expecting to feel today, and cutting off the players from the emotional weight that the sequence was supposed to carry.  I do not envy Bungie’s writing team, and I have to assume they are feeling really rough right now themselves, so I certainly hope this doesn’t turn into a whole thing with the worst impulses of the community right now. Second, the funeral scene is really heavily reflecting the same scene regarding the death of Cayde-6, with Crow taking on Ikora’s role, and Mara echoing Zavala’s grieving voice of reason.  Crow calling on us to take vengeance with him, knowing what we did to Uldren, hits hard, and Mara’s grief afterwards hits harder.  Thing is... I don’t want revenge.  I’ve grown tired of vengeance.  I wanted to be able to stop it from happening in the first place.  I knew it was coming, and I knew I was powerless to prevent it.  

We are actors in the world of Destiny, and no matter how loose our script, we cannot change the path of the scene.  We can do little but point and shoot, with the world changing around us more than us changing the world.  This is a basic reality of video game narratives and also our own lives, as our agency is always limited by some outside factor, but I’ve found myself thinking again and again about how the Young Wolf can do so little to truly change the path that the story will follow.

Now, as for Amanda, should she return as a lightbearer?  I’m very much on the side of “NO” in this case.  I feel her story would be undercut by bringing her back.  However, I have an idea for how to use the concept to tell another story about letting go.  The original Chaperone is buried somewhere along the road to the Last City, as we learn from the lore books this season.  Crow, unsatisfied by vengeance and wishing to use the power of Deepsight to restore the newly raised Amanda, works with us to find the original, and offers to use the artifact on Mars to try and restore Amanda’s memory.  However, Amanda, risen as a Titan (I won’t explain why a Titan but it does make the most sense), rejects the idea of having her memories restored, believing it’s important to let the Amanda she once was rest, a metaphorical reunion with her beloved parents and her dear friend Cayde.  And thus, the original Chaperone, along with her own personal one, recovered and repaired, are placed in the tower as a monument for those who have given everything for the sake of others, a monument to Legends without the Light.

Imagine that you were depressed over the loss of someone that you barely knew, feeling guilty for not being friends with them sooner. It happened with Amanda Holiday, and you really wished you met Cayde-6 when he was around, since you were a recent Guardian that was brought back to life after the events of the Witch Queen.

When you met with Commander Zavala and Ikora Rey, you tried to hid your emotions in front of them; deep down, you knew that they're grieving from the loss of their friends, whose like a family to them.

And then... it hit you. You started to cry.

"Shit..." you thought. You cried uncontrollably.

Both Zavala and Ikora were confused at first, then they realized that you're grieving over something. Then you said, "I'm sorry... I really wish... I really wish I was there back then... if Ghost woke me up sooner... I-"

The Commander said, "Eyes up, Guardian."

You looked at the Commander with those teary eyes of yours. You felt embarrassed at first, then you started to notice that he's crying too... well, a little bit, same with Ikora.

"It's okay, Guardian. You've been here for a while, and I understand your frustrations. What happened in the past doesn't affect you, and there's a brighter future upon us." Zavala continued, "Your mental health is important, so I suggested you should rest for now. You may dismissed."

You wipe your tears as you get up.

"Come on," Ikora said as she walked towards you, "Let's just get back to our place, we need our breaks too."

As you heard those words, you began to smile. "Thanks, guys."

For that moment, you noticed a blue-light behind Zavala and Ikora, giving you a thumbs-up. "It's going to be okay, Guardian." He said. You've seen the spirit of Cayde-6 along with Amanda Holiday's spirit with gold aura around her.

You're not alone!

Cayde's alt mode being a tank is so funny like he goes up to Ammanda and is like "Hey Ammanda! Why wait for you to give me a tank, when I can just be the tank!"

Amanda just sighs heavily, shaking her head. "Because you're just gonna cause chaos either way. Might as well reap what you sow."

Cayde proceeds to blow up everything around him.

Amanda just laughs as he does, knowing full well Zavala and Optimus are gonna make him pay for the damages out of pocket.
