Funny consequence of LoT only having one “fancy house” set is that, and im pretty sure about this, Nate and Zari 2.0 live in the same house.

Like imagine that sequence of events

Heyworld happens, little Zari just got famous.

Nate’s mom decides to move into a different house. And i mean who can blame her? Her husband just died, her son did too, but he came back and made it pretty clear he doesn’t plan on staying nearby. So she moves house

Little Zari is so famous and she’s adapting really well to it. A bunch of people contact her, they want her to do brand deals and promotions. She says yes to all of them and now her family is swimming in money. Her parents are thinking about moving now that she has a baby brother.

A reality TV show producer comes to them, apparently the owner’s of Heyworld’s house is on the market, why not move in and record everything? Zari says yes, why not Heyworld is what got her her start

Like truly this is sending me… i mean eventually she and Behrad both move out and she probably has like 3 mansions but like her parents still live there and I just think that’s so funny. Even funnier that Nate like never mentiones it

You worked at The Time Bureau with Ava. Being ranked the level below her meant you joined her on alot of missions hence why you met the Legends.

Much like Ava the Legends started to grow on you. Especially a certain 'newer recruit'.

Zari was quirky. She drew you in but being the easily defensive person you are it took a while before you spoke to her.

One morning you had to call Ava in, she didnt asnwer her call in so you had to board the ship. You bumped into Zari.

After offering you breakfast and a casual flirty conversation was had, Ava was finally ready to leave with you.

You both got called out on a mission to help the Legends. A solider was heading straight for Zari until you jumped in and fought him. You recieved a few injuries so Zari took you vack to the ship.

"Y/n you didn't have to do that! You could've got hurt!", "Zari if you feel that bad about it then you can take me to dinner to make it up to me. I mean if you uh- if you want to."

And so you had your first date.

Zari asked you out on 4 more before she asked you to be her girlfriend.

You basically moved in with the Legends. You leave the bureau with Ava to go "home" to Zari.

Ever since you started dating, you've seen to it that you protect Zari and the Legends at all costs.

Zari Tomaz is AroAce

Ok here me out. Yes I know she had a relationship with Nate. I think Zari is oriented AroAce or Gray AroAce or possibly Demi.

She shows no interest in anyone before Nate and that was after the two became close in season 4. Which could be proof for Demi.

But my headcannon is she’s oriented AroAce. Wether she’s hetero or bi oriented not sure but even with Nate yeah she cared for him a lot but that could also be seen very platonically.

Idk.

Yo this was supposed to be a shit post but it became a full on spec fic. But like, pretty sure Charlie and Zari would go like this

Every mission, on the ship, just anytime they're around each other they're arguing. It's the same stuff, snarking each other, snide comments, getting a little too close, and glaring at each other while the world fades around them

At first, Zari is convinced she hates her because shes insufferable. Shes blunt, rebellious, has an attitude. Shes all the things Zari wasnt prepared for.

After some contemplation, she starts to realize that a part of her is mainly affected still by how much she looks like Amaya. Everytime she sees Charlie, she expects her best friend, the woman who she loved to smile or chastise Zari for her childish quirks like staying up too late to play video games or not doing chores. Then Charlie speaks and Zari is so mad. It was hard enough that the woman she fell for loved someone else, left, and now she had to deal with a walking reminder of her heartbreak. It wasnt fair.

It takes a bit and that leads her to the conclusion that some of the anger she had for the universe and time travel playing cruel tricks on her was being taken out on Charlie. She finally gets it all out and is willing to make amends.

Then Charlie speaks and and shes still angry only this time, it's a different type of anger or one that was lurking under her Amaya feelings.

It's just, how could she not be mad?How couldnt she be mad at the way Charlie stole her snacks, the way she called her sweetheart or love, the way her dark brown eyes saw right through Zari's shit and deep into her soul? It was infuriating.

And then one night they're alone. Zari's in the kitchen for a late night snack, Charlie out of boredom. She sees Zari at the table and is all too happy to ignore her and leave but...she cant

Truth be told, she respected Zari. She hated how Zari backhanded and snided at every corner, but she respected her. For some reason, Zari seemed to just get it the most. She knew what it meant to be persecuted just for being different, what it meant to not let anyone in due to never feeling safe. She understood those moments where she was just so angry.

Because of that, she did want to find a middle ground. She loved getting the legend all riled up but if they were going to live together, they couldnt be at each others throats forever.

So she just stops in her tracks and bluntly asks why Zari hated her? She just didnt get. She had grown on everyone in the ship but Zari she couldn't crack. It bothered her

Maybe it's the sleep deprivation getting to them or something more, but it was the first real conversation they had about their relationships. Through the talk, they start to realize the other isnt so bad, that maybe this was a friendship that could work. Then Zari kisses her.

Both are stunned when it happens and as soon as Zari could process it, shes stammering finding some way to get out of this situation. She apologizes repeatedly and Charlie tries to tell her it's okay, tries to talk about it but Zari is still in shock. This couldnt happen. It just couldnt.

So shes running out leaving Charlie alone. Charlie, who's realizing that this woman is a lot more than she expected

Then it only gets worse from there. Zari builds up her walls and goes on pretending the kiss never happened. Shes picking more fights with Charlie who's mad as well because Zari keeps picking fights. It becomes a cycle.

Their original argue rate jumps up by 3000 and Sara is confused. Things seemed to finally have settled down between the two and now it was a hurricane of harsh words and her breaking them up.

So she talks to Ava. Now Sara is a bi queen, she has game, shes smooth and all that but the fact is, her gaydar is shit.

She tells Ava about Charlie and how her and Zari keep fighting and then Ava is looking her with eyes that just say "seriously babe?"

She breaks it down for her girlfriend. Two women who are extremely similar yet different, both with fiery attitudes, and both ready to tear each other limb from limb. Like Sara, they're clearly hot for each other

And Sara just looks at her so confused. Like, no. She runs a tight ship. She'd know if those two had feelings for each other. Damn, she didnt even think Zari was gay. This all was just blowing her mind. So then she invites Ava to see for herself

They walk in on the two in a heated argument and it only escalates from there. It's not until Charlie absolutely loses it and calls Zari out mentioning how she refuses to talk about the kiss.

Insert shook captain and her time bureau girlfriend.

It's only silent from there. Zari doesnt know what to say. She buried those feeling and they were just now being opened again. Not wanting to wait, Charlie just scoffs and leaves.

After a good old pep talk, Zari realizes she needs to talk to Charlie. Sara even uses the love is worth the risk line because Zari needed to hear it. She needed to hear that she couldnt bury things, that she was worthy of love, that maybe the universe gave her so many losses for this; a win.

She finds Charlie in her room blaring punk music in a fit of rage. She gets ignored for a bit and decides to just talk while Charlie listens. Even if she fucked up, ruined everything, she wasnt going to repeat her mistakes. She'd say how she felt

She tells Charlie how much that kiss scared her. How much she scared her. She was developing feelings for Charlie for a while now and in the beginning she thought they were ghosts of her feelings for Amaya. Then she started to smile at Charlie's small little laugh, the way she crinkled her nose, her terrible posture when she sat. She secretly enjoyed their fights too, no one ever challenged Zari like that, called her out. It lit a fire in her she never knew she had. As infuriating as those stupid pet names were as well, Zari loved the fact that sweetheart and love were names reserved just for her.

And Charlie wants to believe it. She really does. This sarcastic mess before her had captivated her from the moment she stepped foot on the ship. She hated her then with every fiber of her being but there was that little voice in the back of her head that echoed the same thought she had when they first met: who is this woman?

But shes been lied to before. Shes been hurt before. There was this insecurity that Zari only wanted her for her looks, because she looked like this Amaya girl. She wanted Zari but not like that.

Zari assures her that that's not the case. Yes she was in love with Amaya, yes she was crushed when she left or the moments she saw slithers of her relationship with Nate. But somewhere along the line, in all the time shes known Charlie, she moved on. She fell for the punk rock prankster shape shifter in front of her and there was no denying that. Not anymore.

Still she sees the doubt in Charlie's eyes and she finally decides to tell her in a way that more effectively communicated what she was feeling. She kissed her. And not a midnight kiss where she made a mistake, a proper one. One that threw caution to the wind, one that she never wanted to end.

When they finally pull apart, Charlie just holds Zari's hands to her cheek and forces herself to look at her. She wants to look away, run away, because shes never been this vulnerable with anyone. But she remembers its Zari and in that fact, theres a small comfort

She runs her thumb along her hand and in such a soft voice, one different from her usual loud and upbeat one, she asks "is this real?"

And Zari says yes. It's the realest thing shes ever felt and she wasnt planning on ever letting it go

Legends of Tomorrow and the Zarlie Incident: Is it happening again?

As many fans of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow are aware, during season 4 and 5 of the series, the ship “Zarlie”, a pairing of Zari Tomaz and Charlie, became quite popular during this time, especially during season 4.

Zari was a fan favourite character who was introduced in season 3. Throughout the season, Zari kept mostly to herself until she began to warm up to the others on the Waverider. Due to Zari’s closed off nature, she never had a LI in season 3. There were jokes about it, of course. Zari was very attractive to one Mr. Jonah Hex, and honestly. who wasn’t from the Waverider, haha? We’re told them as viewers that Zari is attracted to men. Sounds good.

Then s4 rolls around and Charlie gets introduced to the crew. Charlie takes an instant liking to Zari, affectionately calling her ‘Z.’ Maisie previously played Amaya on the previous two seasons, who was quite close with Zari as a friend, so it only makes sense that there is some chemistry between the two actors since they’ve been friends for awhile now. I wasn’t surprised when people starting shipping the two of them, thus the ship ‘Zarlie’ was born. What I wasn’t expecting was the writers to play into it. They had some pretty close scenes, and by close I mean there wasn’t enough room for two hands between their faces. And Zari made a comment about Charlie picking Amaya’s form because she was hot, implying that she thought Amaya was attractive. Thus the infamous scene happened:

No denial from Zari, just her usual annoyed look she got whenever Charlie started picking at her. Thus, the Bi Zari headcannon was born and mostly accepted by everyone in the LoT fandom. Of course, with Avalance and I believe Constangreen at this time, many people doubted it would become canon. And unfortunately, shortly after, Nate and Zari began dating, which felt sudden to me personally, and Steelhacker was born.

However, Steelhacker canon did not stop Zarlie from continuing. If anything, the writers only added more fuel to the fire so fans could have discussions. This is where I started to get annoyed, because why continue to bait the pair if you have no intention of making it canon? It felt a little dirty to me, even as I enjoyed the banter and chemistry between the two of them. Oh well, I thought at the time, it’s just shipping for fun now.

Season 4 ends with Zari being replaced by Zari Tarazi, or Zari 2.0 if you will. People still shipped Zarlie, though it was mostly from Zari 1.0. Fans were a little put off when Charlie said she slept with Behrad, but it also called attention to the fact that Behrad technically replaced Zari from the original timeline, meaning that Charlie wanted sleep with Zari, yes? Very confusing, but in a weird way, it was almost like they canonized the ship further.

Maisie had been on record several times acknowledging the chemistry between the two, and how much she wished they could have explore that more. Then of course, the news of the filmed but deleted kiss broke out and everyone from the Zarlie fandom lost their mind. There was a kiss, so in some strange way, Zarlie is canon, but only behind the scenes. From a show that does have amazing queer characters and content came a strangely bizarre queerbait that is now semi-canon, but only because the news of the kiss came to light, otherwise it would be another ship lost at sea, dragging people down with it as it lured them with its content. That should be the end of it, right?

Wrong.

Season 6 came out this season with Astra, the villain being manipulated by the Fates in season 5, being elevated to main cast. Joining her was newcomer Esperanza “Spooner” Cruz. Some people were hesitant because Astra was a bit of a polarizing character in s5, with reason. And of course, with any new character coming in, people are worried on how they will fit into the show. However, Spooner easily became a character that people enjoyed, and she somehow grounded the show, due to her very emotional character arc.

Spooner and Astra didn’t interact much until the animated sequence, when Astra turned her into a fork, much to the fans delight. Spooner actually encouraged Astra and after that, the two slowly became friends. They could have some snarky yet fun back and forth conversations and remarks to another, and the two actors played off each other well. They also connected from their lost mothers, Spooner who thought her mother had been taken by aliens and Astra who lost her mother to hell. They had a sort of emotional vulnerability between them that only they could understand.

Then the bowling episode came out and I think this is when the ship really got rolling. There was the big hug at the end of the match were a much taller Astra scoops Spooner up off her feet into a massive bear hug, smiles between the two. I know this is when I became a solid Esperastra shipper.

The pair continued to partner up after this. They partnered up again during the Clue-esc murder mystery game. Something that is very interesting about this is the pairings themselves. Ava gets killed by Sara right away (lol) and Nate dies shortly after, with Sara following behind. When Sara dies, her and Ava are shot together in a typical lovers pose in death. Makes sense, as they are engaged. Zari 2.0 is paired with Behrad and John, her brother and her lover respectively. Everyone is paired with someone they love. So...Astra and Spooner are paired up. Okay, no comment. JUST KIDDING. They die together, and this is shot in such a romantic way:

I know it’s dark, my apologies. But Spooner is leaning on Astra, and Astra is falling on top of Spooner. I’ve watched and read a lot of stuff, and this is a typical lovers in death position as well. 

Then we get to the final two episodes which see Spooner and Astra pairing up again. Spooner leans on Astra for emotional support throughout these two episodes, because she knows that Astra understands what she’s going through. Astra was devested when she thought she lost both Spooner and John at the same time. Luckily, Spooner did come back and the two shared a very emotional hug.

Now, this is where it gets a little frustrating as a fan. The writers and showrunners have stated clearly that they are Just Friends(TM). It seems like, based on some decisions from this past season, the writers are pushing for Astra/Behrad, which is like, not terrible but a little strange. However, Tala Ashe (Zari), has been on record to say that she thinks the actors have great chemistry and she ships them. So there is clearly a small divide yet again. So, if season 7 leans into this any more, is Esperastra the new Zarlie?

Of course friends can love each other, hug one another, and use each other as emotional support. However in this case, there does seem to be some underlying tension between the two that I wonder if the writers are going to explore. Is Esperastra going to stay friends, or end up becoming yet another queerbaited sapphic couple from Legends of Tomorrow? I guess only time will give us an answer on this. However, I will say, the parallels between the two ships is slightly uncanny, and perhaps even intentional. Zarlie connected by being two people who felt lost without family, and Esperastra may be doing the same thing now that John is gone, who was functionally Astra’s only family left.

Let’s hope Legends of Tomorrow doesn’t do the same thing twice.
