something something Tatooine has two suns right? and so there’s a lot of big deep shadows that are really COLD and shade’s really important
and the kid’s kinda weird on tatooine right? like normal, hates the sun and sand and loves podracing a LOT but he could have *sworn* that the big zarbak dude seemed to have almost tripped on his shadow…. and the kid was *right there*…but ya know on the ship he was normal…. always in crevices but he really liked droids! and kids can’t *really* grow shadows can they
Trying to come up with Weird Eldritch Shit for a fic that people would actually find weird instead of just "IDK maybe one of his great grandparents was part tog or something," but that also isn't super clichéd or derivative of existing works?
So far I'm leaning into "his shadow moves independently of him" based partly on a Visual Metaphor Moment from AotC, but it needs to be more than just that, you know?
#something something on planets where shades reall#important ie desert planets#anakin’s a little more obviouly… eldritch#but on courasant? a LOT less obvious#and then he goes on a mission to ryloth#and its a LOT more noticeable#really hope the italics work#idk mobile hate me

I'm making a Zarbak Guardsmen/Sentinel oc. It's so very, very hard not to make his skin color yellow. Might make him bronze or tan. Whichever goes better with gold/white face tattoos. Still needs a name though. How are you doing?
That’s so neat!! Idk I like yellow
first name that comes up off the top of my head is Terran??? Idk
but anyways, I’m good thanks for asking! how are you?

the truth | darth maul
word count: 1,020
warnings: cursing, angst,
a/n: this is the sequel to lust! the first part is linked below! i hope you guys enjoy! :) (btw, the gif is what i think jealous maul would look like hehe)
i. lust
prompt: “The lust fic was so good 😭 Can we maybe get a sequel? Maybe Maul being jealous about how Gar Saxon and the reader can PDA and he can't because their affair is a secret”
his eyes bore into you as you stood before the throne, gar’s arm draped around your waist, his hand resting on the small of your back. the emotion glimmering in the amber pools was pure rage, a scowl etched across his lips. yet, no words came from him as he sat poised on the throne. the silence from him was almost unbearable, your mouth dry, anxiety swirling within you like a torrent, threatening to consume you whole.
“and with that,” gar’s tone was cordial as he completed his briefing, “i expect that the jedi council will interfere in no time. we only have a few weeks before they invade mandalore.”
his eyes hardened, a growl rumbling in his throat, “i am well aware of the interest of the jedi when it comes to mandalore. especially obi-wan kenobi. i suggest that we remain vigilant, yet prepared. increase the amount of patrols.”
“as you wish my lord,” gar dipped his head, “are we finished here?”
“no,” the zabrak’s answer was barbed, inflected with venom, “i would like to speak with your wife.”
“m-my wife?” gar stammered, shock plastered across his features, “why would you want to speak with my wife?”
“i have a task for her,” he retorted, “or are you too protective? run along, saxon. this is a private matter.”
“a-as you wish my lord,” gar sputtered. your husband’s lips met with yours for a chaste kiss, your eyes wide, “see you soon, my love.”
maul brought a knee up onto the chair, using it as an armrest for his elbow. his eyes followed gar as he strolled out of the throne room, the slam of the wooden doors echoing through the massive space, “i loathed every single second that his hands were on you.”
“there’s not much you can do about that,” you muttered, a blush dusting your cheeks, “he is my husband.”
“yet your heart rests with someone else,” a smirk crept onto his lips, “do not forget the words that spilled from those pretty lips of yours the other night, my sweet.”
your heart skipped a beat at his words, the blush intensifying, “i-i remember.”
the zabrak rose to his feet, “you do? do you remember the way your eyes shone so bright when you admitted your feelings for me? i can recall those words so vividly, (y/n). i could practically hear your heart thudding the moment our eyes connected just moments ago.”
you sucked in a breath, your knees buckling as he approached you, “i-i didn’t forget, maul.”
maul was now face-to-face with you, his skin glowing scarlet in the light as the sun set over mandalore, “then why stay with him? why live this life of misery and neglect?”
your eyes narrowed, “i made a vow, maul.”
“yet it’s broken with every single second that we’re together,” he scoffed, rolling his eyes, “why can’t you see that you’re so miserable with him? why are you defending that sorry excuse for a husband? are you blind? even a child could see right through you.”
“i don’t know,” your lip trembled, tears welling up in his eyes, “i don’t want to hurt him, maul. he’s a kind, hard-working man. he cares-”
a sigh tumbled from the zabrak’s lips, “please, don’t cry, my love. you’re far too gorgeous to cry.”
“i feel as if i’m being split into two,” the tears flowed, splattering against the floor.
“come here,” maul took your hand, intertwining his fingers with yours.
the feeling of his hand in yours was so comforting, his skin so warm and soft. calluses from years of saber wielding, combat, and the weariness of life littered his palm, but you paid no mind. you practically melted at the gesture, the action so intimate and tender. the zabrak led you out of the throne room, pushing open a glass door.
you strolled onto the balcony, your steps light. now, the sun was almost past the horizon, the sky a blended mixture of navy, tangerines, pinks, and lavender. the stars were beginning to appear, twinkling above. the lights of sundari were glowing, soft hues of gold as the capitol from day to night.
maul sensed the shift in your aura, how the awe began to overcome your features, the tears drying, your eyes shining, the stars reflecting in your (e/c) depths. maker, you were breathtaking, and maul couldn’t take his eyes off of you. moments later, he spoke, his voice was soft, a hushed murmur.
“during my rise to power, i was adamant that i would never have a queen, that i would rule this sprawling kingdom alone. yet, when i first laid eyes on you, that all changed in an instant. (y/n), you kindled this fire in me that has never been lit before. i want you beside me, as my queen. i want to be the one who mends your broken heart, who helps you realize what love truly is. if would do anything that you asked. if you told me to fetch you a star, i wouldn’t hesitate. i want to give you everything.”
your eyes fluttered closed as you rested your head on maul’s shoulder, your hands still laced together, “i never imagined that i would find my soulmate in the midst my marriage. i guess life has a funny way of bringing two souls together, doesn’t it?”
as the word soulmate rolled off your tongue, a blush rose in the zarbak’s cheeks. a wide, bright, grin stretched across his lips, “(y/n), my heart is in your hands.”
“both of them?”
“both of them,” maul chuckled as he pressed a light kiss on your forehead, “i love you, (y/n).”
“i love you too,” you murmured, squeezing his hand.
the two of you focused your gaze towards the rich navy sky, the stars glittering, dancing in the night. with your head on maul’s shoulder, any doubts or hesitations crumbled away completely, the frustration and sadness from moments ago dissipating.
a new life, bursting with happiness and bliss, set in motion for two individuals as they gazed at the stars, their souls intertwining.

Things you prob didn't know about Zabraks
Soo, remember that gorgeous post on Zabraks's physiology?
I found a much better article on them. There is everything, history, traits, culture, traditions, zabraks in SWTOR... Sadly, it's in French. Luckily, I know French. So, don't miss the opportunity to see a Russian girl translating a French article to English. Well, at least the most crucial points that weren't brought up in the first post. Still, there's some very interesting information...
Names: a given one and the clan’s name, although it may be substituted by a family name in colonies.
Horns: start growing at 1-2 years, not when a zabrak hits puberty. The horn reading is pretty much the same thing as hand reading for humans.
Hair: 1 out of 2 zabraks has them. The perception varies: some clans would kill a baby with hair, and some clans would transplant them to be more beautiful (mostly the women).
Skin: quite random, depends on lineage. Zabraks with saturated skin are believed to be more pragmatic, even violent, while pastel shades are believed to be a mark of temperance.
Tattoo: can be imposed (a clan’s tattoo is a must on Iridonia), may be personally chosen (mainly in the colonies). Depends on local traditions.
Height: same as humans, same for males and females (about 180 cm), but the babies are 2 times bigger at birth.
Age: average of 70 years, they age a bit faster than humans.
Endurance: zabraks are more resistant not only to the pain, but also to diseases, alcohol, drugs, medicines and anesthetics (a zabrak needs 3-4 times more than a human for an operation, or they will wake up in the middle of it). Adapt easily to any climate.
Compatibility: organs transplantation doesn’t usually have any complications; it doesn’t have to be another zabrak’s organ, and same goes for blood transfusion: it can come from any specie (it will transform). And apparently zabraks and humans interbreeding isn’t as impossible as I thought before, but it’s said that a human woman would likely die given birth or even before that, because the baby would be too heavy for her.
There's also some vague information about zabs’s flair: it’s developed to the point where they can “smell a person they are meant to be with”, but the author of the article “doesn’t personally believe it”.
Personality: independent but disciplined, proud, stubborn, warrior, resolute.
Marriage, clans, society: There’s some information on the wedding ceremonies, but it was ‘found on an SWG server’ and I’ve no idea if it’s reliable. The marriages can be refused because of the clan’s politics, but it really depends. There are usually 2 to 5 children in the family. One clan is usually 100 to 500 families (couples with children and elders), up to 250k zabs in a clan. Every clan selects a Chief who is both legislative power and judicial authority. He can be deposed if he’s incompetent.
Homeworld: Iridonia. The equator is liveable. You go south, you die of radiation. You go south, you die to the cold. Mad winds. No wonder they are so tough…
Iridonia and colonies: as a common rule, iridonian clans are hardcore traditionalists (although traditions very with every clan) while the colonies has been independent for so long that they lost all understanding of what it is to be a zabrak (and started living by the larger galaxy’s way of life) over the course of the centuries. Seems like Darth Sidious was the one to make them realize they are not so different after all.
Zabraks in SWTOR: are still independent from both the Republic and the Empire, their loyalty is to their clans. The colonies are still following Iridonia’s traditions. (Guess I was too hasty to deny my zabrak agent a clan name…)
There are also things on zabs’s culture and classes, but it's a bit late atm. I think I'll update this post at some point, or rather repost it with more information.

The Book of Zarbak - Alien Worlds - Episode 4
The Book of Zarbak is a short episodic Sci-Fi series written by Chris Dill. New episodes twice per week, released Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Episode 4 - The Gift
Victoria, 20 years after her first encounter, awoke to discover a figure hovering beside her bed. A message was communicated to her thoughts without hearing any sound with her ears. "Little human! My how you have grown! Not so little any more though. We need your help. Your world is in great despair. You and others like you can greatly impact events moving forward, through disclosure as the first step. Our message must be heard. Prepare yourself for what is to come. You will play a significant role in our plans to redirect humanity towards a better path and brighter future. We will give you the name of someone inside your government who can be trusted, someone who knows the truth. His name is…" Interrupted by an obnoxious ringtone, the figure vanishes. Shaken, Victoria answers her phone. "Oh, hi Mom", she said nervously, still confused about what had just happened. Her Mother was on the other end of the phone and said "Is everything OK?" "Yes, I'm alright", said Victoria. "I just had the strangest dream." Her Mother admitted, "Me too. I just got the overwhelming sensation that I had to call you this very minute! In fact, I think it's time to tell you about our gift". Intrigued, Victoria replied "Our… gift?". You see, Victoria's Mother also has seen and experienced things of high strangeness in her life. It is a gift they both share. Or, could it be a curse? Only time will tell. The full weight of this gift is yet to be felt by them both. ... to be continued in the next episode onThe Book of Zarbak - Alien Worlds Read the full article

The Book of Zarbak - Alien Worlds - Episode 3
The Book of Zarbak is a short episodic Sci-Fi series written by Chris Dill. New episodes twice per week, released Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Episode 3 - The Little Girl Who Could See With our plan set in motion, we sent some personnel from each faction to your planet. We thought our presence would be a little more clandestine for a lot longer. However, things do not always go according to plan, even for us. A little girl named Victoria was standing out in the middle of a clearing. This is where she liked to lay on her back and gaze at the stars just before bed time every night. This particular night though, she found herself standing there with her eyes wide open, staring at one of the taller trees beyond the edge of the clearing with no recollection of what she did that day. A low frequency hum reverberated throughout Victoria's entire body, felt to her core. She rubbed her eyes with the back of her little fists. Suddenly, right where she was staring when she woke up, appeared a wavy silhouette of an object in the sky just above the tree tops. The object faded in and out rapidly as if it was flickering from transparent to solid. Just as she tried to think about what was happening, the object revealed itself, like it was becoming uncloaked. Then, a warming, love-like feeling, engulfs her entire mind, body, and spirit. A thought, as if implanted in her mind, rushed through "Oh! You can see us? Everything is going to be OK little human. We mean you no harm, no harm at all. We'll be back to check on you from time to time. For now, we must go." Jolted, Victoria could not believe what she was seeing, hearing, and feeling. The object disappeared in the blink of an eye as she clapped her hands together in attempt to wake up, as if she were dreaming. She was not dreaming. Her life-changing journey had only just begun. ... to be continued in the next episode onThe Book of Zarbak - Alien Worlds Read the full article

The Book of Zarbak - Alien Worlds - Episode 2
The Book of Zarbak is a short episodic series written by Chris Dill. New episodes twice per week, released Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Episode 2 - Disturbing Discoveries An explosion on Earth shook all worlds violently and suddenly. Radiating outward toward the Heavens, the destruction rippled throughout all dimensions of reality. No physical distance prevented the effect of the blast from being felt by all. We knew right then that intervention was absolutely necessary as this was definitely nothing natural. On Earth, the person most responsible for the development and creation of a device capable of such destruction grinned with delight for a brief moment. After the excitement subsided and better judgement came to mind, tears rolled down the man's cheeks as he muttered "I've seen this all before". His colleagues looked at him with confusion, not understanding what he meant as this was the first time anyone had seen a bomb capable of obliterating everything remotely close to it's epicenter for miles. We knew what he meant by that statement, of course. The universe's history, including planet Earth and man, is one thing we have studied meticulously for eons. The allucians, the grays, the sempitechs, the teramorphs, all of us gathered with urgency to determine immediate steps and a plan to intervene with humanity's wreck-less behavior. As I stated before, everything is connected and one irreversible action affects everything everywhere, whether the place can be seen by the human eye or not. It was decided by our leaders to have a real presence on Earth and move some personnel in, without being seen of course. Humans weren't, back then, and still aren't now, ready to know they are not alone. Where we occupy Earth will soon be revealed. ... to be continued in the next episode onThe Book of Zarbak - Alien Worlds Read the full article

The Book of Zarbak - Alien Worlds - Episode 1
The Book of Zarbak is a short episodic Sci-Fi series written by Chris Dill. New episodes twice per week, released Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Episode 1 - Discovering Earth It began over 2000 Earth years ago. My team and I were exploring your galaxy with seemingly random abandon, when our systems detected multiple life forms on your planet. Intelligent life? Intrigued, I instructed my best pilots to go down and find out more. We have been studying your planet ever since. Our technology was advanced back then, even more than what you currently have now, so much more. It did not take long for our scanners to reveal a plethora of biological forms of life. 2000 of your Earth years is many many lifetimes for you humans. Time is very much different for us as we do not experience time in the same way. Time, for us is very fluid and for all intents and purposes, doesn't even really exist. The greedy ones amongst you made it up, having stripped the servants of their freedom to be wherever, whenever they choose and control them with ridiculous things like that which you call "money". Throughout the years we have observed your progress in technology and in other areas. We watched as you developed language as your most common method of communication while we ourselves prefer to connect using thought waves. Waves are so much more meaningful than you even understand, but I will get into that later. We discovered your natural instinct for survival and animalistic urge to reproduce. We also watched as some of you developed a burning desire for excess physicalities, more things than you need or could even use, more "wealth", more power and control over your fellow beings. Some of you fought to control vast geographical regions for insignificantly short-sighted things such as riches, pride and fame. Why is that? We do not understand this concept. Such things are but a mere fraction of what is really important in the grand scheme of things. When will you wake up and realize that everything is connected? All living things from one edge of infinity to the other, are deeply connected through a complex network that your human minds could not possibly comprehend. The most important thing, is love. We decided to guide you along your journey while continuing to learn more about you over the years. Sometimes it is difficult to keep you from destroying yourselves and other planets in your solar system. Let me be clear, we do not need a destructive ripple effect through time and space. Remember, everything is connected. When you hurt one, you hurt all. We couldn't make you choose better ways but have so far been able to prevent many catastrophes. There was one incident that greatly shook things up though, and got the attention of creatures far beyond our dimension. This is how I remember it happening... ... to be continued in the next episode onThe Book of Zarbak - Alien Worlds Read the full article
