Really cool result from Zap Energy, which continues to have the best name of any private fusion power company.

They've demonstrated that they're producing controlled thermonuclear fusion in their sheared-flow stabilized z-pinch, which is a pretty wild concept – they essentially took an abandoned idea from the 1950's and re-visited it with a modern understanding of magnetohydrodynamics.

Their promotional .gif skills are also top-notch.

Zap is still a ways off from producing breakeven levels of energy, but this is a very strong indication that their physics is solid. A hearty congratulations to them!

I have no affiliation with Zap Energy, but in my own personal opinion, their design may have just taken the leap from "unsolved problem" to "very difficult engineering challenge." Remains to be seen if that's an overcomable challenge, but I'm excited!

hi, so since you didn't specify an oc, my brain just kinda meshed this ask up with your other ask and i made my friend pick between my modern au characters instead. he chose night routine with xiao (who is very much not an oc), so uh yeah here's that

𝐗𝐢𝐚𝐨 𝐱 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐑𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞 [modern au]

The pencil hovering over his sketchbook had barely moved since Xiao sat down at his desk. Even when illuminated by the familiar warmth of his lamp, no inspiration for a new tattoo seemed to come to him, so he put the pencil down and leaned back in his seat with a sigh.

Just as he started wracking his brain for anything that could give him that spark to draw, his thoughts were interrupted by his phone ringing. He swiped right immediately.

“Xiao, hey! Sorry, I couldn’t call earlier, stuff just kept coming up,” you started apologetically. Just hearing your voice on the other side was enough for some of the tension to seep from his shoulders. “How was your day?”

“Same as usual, nothing special happened.” He wished he could tell you about something but there really wasn’t anything. Besides, Xiao could tell there was something you wanted to get off your chest. “Why don’t you tell me about yours instead?”

There was rustling on your end of the call, no doubt you getting ready for bed. These late night phone calls had become something of a routine at this point, a way to spend time together on nights where you couldn’t see each other. When you talked, time seemed to fly by and it happened every now and then that the line felt silent before all Xiao could hear was the evened out breathing after you fell asleep. 

Leaning forward as he listened to you describing your day, from the beautiful flowers you saw in a shop to the driver who cut you off, Xiao picked up his pencil again almost absentmindedly. Graphite bloomed over his sketchbook as your voice calmed down all the earlier doubts in his mind. Really, he should have known. You always were his greatest inspiration.

but just Jay and Nya becoming some form of primary mentors or if you want to, have them as adoptive parent (that is after the inevitable memory gain) to Sora specifically

Nya already was paired off with her a lot during season 1 of DR

All three know the struggle of intense identity issues for years.

Both adults felt abandoned by their parents, either while as a child or after finding out later in life despite either hoping or knowing it was for their own good. And Sora was disowned by her own parents, their beliefs chosen over her.

They could both comfort her after losing Arin (assuming he isn't found already) because they know what it's like to lose a best friend after making the wrong descisions that felt right in the moment e.g Jay beating up Cole out of jealousy or Nya considering other options even when in a relationship because she was second guessing her choices. (Just the entire love triangle thing. I so believe that Jay was Nya's best friend outside of her brother when she moved in, even when they were dating and I'm dying on that hill because of the little screen time she gets with anyone that isn't those two, or a ten year old that more becomes her little brother and an old dude.)

Lessons could be given over building tech or fixing cars. They even have little competitions to see who could do the best original work or make the most improvements to an old one.

Jay has the most extensive weapon catalogue and could help her choose which primary one she would like to work with. As well as maybe try to expose her to several of his many side hobbies.

Nya can teach her how to deal with perfectionism and not feeling strong with your own element in those times that Sora's still having doubts about her capabilities despite being tournement champion.

Maybe they can try teaching her spinjitzu outside of Lloyd's scheduled training and show what worked for them (It's definetly helpful that one of them was the first to learn it.)

I'm not saying once she achieves it they both would be like "whoo, I taught her that!" but they totally would.

like imagine how proud they would be once she goes from learning spinjitzu to reaching her full potential after working through whatever her primary issue is (I still don't know exactly maybe it would be something to do with a need to fix things or take over because you don't have the fullest faith in the capabilities of others and learning to trust others to do it or fix the issue themselves. It's been a long time since I've seen season 1 so just spitballing with what season 2 gave me)
