VA - Kampire Presents: A Dancefloor in Ndola
Strut introduces a pioneering new compilation 'A Dancefloor In Ndola,' curated by revered East African DJ, Kampire. This release marks an evolution in Strut's approach to compilations, showcasing emerging DJ talent from across the world and embracing an innovative approach to musical discovery from the next wave of selectors. Forging her reputation through memorable sets for the Nyege Nyege Festival in Uganda over the last decade, Kampire now tours worldwide and is celebrated for her brilliantly curated sets spanning the full range of African music styles from the ‘70s and ‘80s to the present day. The compilation flows through different East African and South African genres from Congolese rumba and soukous to 1980s township bubblegum and the rich guitar-led sounds of Zambian kalindula. “There are styles of music on the compilation which are often considered unsophisticated from rural areas. I and other contemporary African artists and DJs draw inspiration from them; it is part of what makes us ourselves.” Kampire also shines the spotlight on many incredible women in African music from the ‘80s, including Congolese legends like Pembey Sheiro, Feza Shamamba and Princesse Mansia M’bila to V-Mash and Di Groovy Girls from South Africa. ‘A Dancefloor In Ndola’ is released on 2LP and CD and features an exclusive new edit by Kampire alongside personal liner notes tracing her links to the music. Cover artwork montage is by Canon Rumanzi and vinyl restoration / mastering by The Carvery.

8 and 14 for the ask game!
8. Do you get confused with other nationalities? Which ones and by whom?
Ok so I have an Autism Accent bc i picked up a lot of speech from American TV, so other South Africans, people who are from the same places I am, tend to assume I'm Australian a lot? At least one stranger assumed I was American once even though I wasn't pulling out the rhotic R?? This is compounded by every Aussie or Kiwi friend i have ever had telling me "yeah you just sound normal to me". Assigned Australian at the grocery store.
14. Do you like your country's cinema and/or TV
GO WATCH SUPA TEAM 4 ON NETFLIX NOW!! Go watch the Aau's Song episode of Star Wars Visions, and go watch Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire on Disney+!!! :D
This is a fascinating question bc like. until recently historically South Africa hasn't really produced a lot of its own TV? We have had some shows! Especially soap operas and reality TV! So much reality TV. But like in my field (animation) for example, a lot of South African studios have worked more in service provision for international productions (like local studio BlackGinger doing post production and VFX on some Marvel movies, and now-defunct studio Clockwork Zoo working on individual seasons of established shows (I know people who've worked on Caillou lol)) and a lot of the locally made shows I grew up on were Sesame Street esque puppet shows (Thabang Thabong, Liewe Heksie, Takalani Sesame even) BUUUT we're recently having our place in the sun with a lot of Disney and Netflix deals coming to fruition - see the above shows! Aau's Song contains some of the most gorgeous visuals i've seen in a 3D short, Supa Team 4 follows some Zambian superhero girls with extremely fun snappy animation, and Kizazi Moto is a really fascinating pan-African anthology animation series i have yet to watch but am SALIVATING over. For more animated shorts, also go check out the thesis short films of students at The Animation School, an institution i have no bias towards whatsoever :). Particular standouts are The Sugarcane Man, Don't Drop the Goose, The Other Side, R.I.P, and The Boy and The Robin. Also 'Undone' if you wanna bawl ur eyes out.
For personal taste reasons not a lot of other local TV has excited me this much, but I did used to like local soap opera 7de Laan (7th Avenue) back when it was good and funny lol!

Lifeguard Lore
Soo I went home with my ex that day, we chilled, but I did not let him touch me that day. After he showed me that he's actively doing shenanigans and thinking im going to just open my legs. Baby we do not do that here. STD's are rampant, and I'm not that type of girly. I kept in mind what he did and just could not get over it. So I stopped replying to his messages...until. The indian girl, "indian ting" (made up by other ppl, not me...but it sticks). She messages me on instagram and invites me to her birthday outing. mind you, im not rlly understanding why she wants ME there, but I did it for the plot. I was dog sitting for my sister and I had the keys to her car and no parents to ask me where I'm at. So when the night came, I made sure I fed the dogs and put them to sleep. Got ready and went out. Her pregame was at a hotel in the city. So I drove there, in a bathing suit and cover up (we were supposed to go to the rooftop before going out). She told me I could finish getting ready at the hotel. We didn't end up going to the pool, so I just changed as soon as I got to her hotel room. I was anticipating my ex to be there, so I wore my fav little red dress. As we waited, I was getting to know indian ting. so far I couldn't read her. One of my ex's friends called her. So ofc I go to see, just to see his friend driving his car. I was like...so why I come out here. Idk these folks. But I was already out, so I decided just to enjoy. That night, I got drunk, wore a grown man's shoes outside the club, met a zambian man who was fine af (he was the one buying my drinks). Before I met the Zambian, I was talking with lifeguard heavy. He bought me my first drink for the night. We were all dancing as a group, having a good time. Then, "Ye" by Burna Boy came on. That was the summer of Burna Boy's come up, so I chugged my drink and found somewhere to whine my waist. I was really messing with lifeguard, so I handed him my purse, and had a time. I don't think I've whined my waist that smooth before. He also was catching what I was throwing so well. I've had my fair share of nights out and he is probably the best dance partners. He grabbed my waist, pulled me close, and we had a little 3-minute intense grind moment. When the song was over, I had clicked what I just did. In front of the rest of my ex's friends too. I knew what I had signed up for. It is well known that a man will have you 50 shades of fxcked up, but as soon as you do him like he does you, all hell breaks loose.

All or Nothing?
Dateline 1-30-24
After a lot of rain and hard freezes in Middle Tennessee, our new hobby for those that commute are dodging potholes that can swallow up small animals. You hit one of these bad boys at 70 mph and it can jar loose your teeth and tear up an axle. So until the Tennessee Department of Transportation can fix these things, driving down 1-24 to the farm will be like some sort of real life video game where you rack up points by dodging Baby Moon Hubcap sized potholes. But this morning, The Old Hemp Farmer is staying in and enjoying a cup of Zambian Coffee (I think I like the Indonesian better) and Costa Rican Cacao fortified with Tennessee homegrown CBD/THC extract. With Channel Q in the background, let me jot down a few thoughts on the Tennessee Cannabis scene. Those that make their living from selling THCa Flower and THCa products are presently preoccupied by an ongoing campaign to somehow compel the Tennessee Department of Agriculture to refrain from decarboxylated testing for total THC. The conversion of THCa to Delta 9 THC before testing will basically ban almost all forms of smokeable flower whether its high THC or high CBD flower. At Tennessee homegrown, we do have some Fiber Hemp Cultivars that theoretically might be compliant but even with real genuine Industrial Hemp, it will be hard to grow any smokeable Flower or CBD Biomass that will be legal because of HB0403. One of The Old Hemp Farmer’s fears from the beginning, was when the Tennessee Cannabis Wholesalers and Retailers went all in on their campaign to “Save the THCa Flower” how exactly would that work? Things totally as they are now? I truly doubt it. But let us say there is a large amount of public pressure, would the TDA compromise on some of the aspects of HB0403? Pretty good chance the TDA isn't going to totally capitulate but it might force the TDA to work with the Tennessee Cannabis Industry to save as much of the Recreational Cannabis market as possible. There’s an old French proverb “the enemy of the good is the search for the perfect”. So would the folks that are selling large amounts of THCa flower be willing the have limits on how much THC can be in their Flower? And would the TDA truly be supportive of Tennessee Cannabis sales and agriculture by getting out of the 2018 Farm bill?
I truly believe there is no way we are going to save THCa dabs and D8/D9 carts but we could save a little bit of the smokeable Flower market. Here’s how, the TDA can interpret a portion of Flower as 1 gram and allow 25 mg of THC per portion. And since Flower can be consumed raw or used to cook with this would enable the TDA to rationalize a 2.5% THC Delta 9 smokeable flower that technically would be legal. Then the TDA has to inform the USDA, they are relaxing their rules, so that Tennessee Hemp Farmers can grow cultivars that could be as much as 1% THC, 30 days from harvest, so that Tennessee can maintain its agricultural base. If Tennessee wants to have a real vertical Recreational Cannabis industry, it has to have its agriculture, processing and packaging, totally in state, that’s what the “big boys” do. Since the possible loss of all THCa flower has galvanized the Tennessee Cannabis industry maybe we (the Cannabis Industry) can start thinking about a future that isn’t dependent on thousands of pounds of Black Market weed. Right now the Tennessee Cannabis Industry has an “All or Nothing” approach in dealing with the TDA and I’m not sure if the Cannabis folks have a plan for nothing. Anyway as always, Hemp Dawgs and Hemp Puppies keep one eye on the weather and the other eye on the market.

Voice of America 0321 5 May 2023
6080Khz 0258 5 MAY 2023 - VOICE OF AMERICA (UNITED STATES OF AMERICA) in ENGLISH from MOPENG HILL. SINPO = 55233. English, s/on with dead-carrier. @0259z Yankee Doodle int fb news anchored by Michael Brown @0300. A federal jury in Washington has convicted the former leader of the far-right Proud Boys and three associates of seditious conspiracy for their role in the violent siege of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. Former Proud Boys chairman Enrique Tarrio and regional leaders Joe Biggs, Ethan Nordean and Zach Rehl, also were found guilty Thursday of conspiring to obstruct Congress from certifying Joe Biden's victory over Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election. In two earlier cases, juries convicted Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes and a top lieutenant of seditious conspiracy in November and found four other members of the anti-government militia guilty of the charge in January. They have yet to be sentenced. A Republican megadonor paid two years of private school tuition for a child raised by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, who did not disclose the payments, a lawyer who has represented Thomas and his wife acknowledged Thursday. A shooter killed at least eight people and wounded 13 in a drive-by attack near a town close to Belgrade late Thursday, the second such mass killing in Serbia in two days, state television reported. The attacker shot randomly at people near the town of Mladenovac, some 50 kilometers south of the capital, the RTS report said early Friday. Police were looking for a 21-year-old suspect who fled after the attack, the report said. No other details were immediately available, and police had not issued any statements. Heavy rains and flooding have killed at least 130 people in Rwanda, officials said Thursday. The country began mass burial of victims, mostly in northern and western provinces. Rwandan Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente attended a burial service and said authorities will "continue to ensure that you [victims] have shelter and basic needs." Zambia's opposition has criticized an agreement with Kenya to allow Kenyan farming of maize in Zambia to help meet its food needs amid a record drought. The National Democratic Congress says Zambian farmers should be given priority for farming Zambian land for exports to Kenya and note problems with maize supplies at home. Belgian police on Thursday arrested seven people suspected of supporting the Islamic State group and plotting a "terrorist attack," prosecutors said. Almost all of the suspects are ethnic Chechens, and three of them possess Belgian nationality, prosecutors said in a statement. "The exact target of the planned attack has not yet been determined," they said. Dozens of Britons had started to camp out on Thursday to save their spots along the route of the upcoming historic royal processions to Buckingham Palace, still two nights away. For most Londoners, this week is an opportunity to celebrate their British pride. @0305z “Daybreak Africa” anchored by male announcer (w/African accent).
