HxH 406 Thoughts

Chrollo, at any minor inconvenience: I am going to kms

Love the streak of Nobunaga gettings Ls. Can't even carry around a makeshift sword on Tier 2 smh. This does increase my belief that Nobunaga is going to survive the arc. Togashi can't kill him, he's just a silly little guy.

Now, Nobunaga is splitting up from Feitan and Phinks...Oh no. So Phinks and Feitan are heading up to follow the tracker that Hinrigh planted while Nobunaga is going back down to try and track down the sewage processing plant that the Heil-ly are killing people from?

All of these characters are so smart, damn. I have the ability to literally go over everything time and time again and wouldn't be able to make the deductions they do after just hearing about something. Nervous!Zakuro was pretty cute though, love his linework in those panels.

And yess, getting revenge for Lynch!!

How does Hisoka and Chrollo both know so much about the successino war?? Who is leaking things to them?? And why? Smells like some fucked shit Pariston would do but why would he give a fuck about the PT or Hisoka? Damn, that panel of Chrollo is wild. Also Chrollo's own idea of the spider is very contradictory to what Bonolenov was saying last chapter. He's over here saying, 'The Spiders will go on.' while Bonolenov is talking about this being the end of the Spiders.

This is a continuation of the same theme in the Yorknew Arc with Pakunoda sacrificing herself to 'save' Chrollo while betraying the idea of the Spider. Clearly, Chrollo has not learnt anything from this experience and instead is doubling down on the whole 'each individual part is unimportant while the idea lives on.' I feel this parallels the journey that Kurapika is on as well. Similarly, in Yorknew, Kurapika chose his friends over revenge but now is going down the same path again of ignoring his friends, risking his own life for revenge and to preserve the idea of the Kurta. Are they both going to choose to continue on the paths they are on and destroy themselves? Or will they realise the importance of their own life and choose to live instead?

HxH 406 thoughts yippeeeeee

I saw some people point out that Nobunaga lost his sword recently to the Heli-ly, but in recent chapters was shown still with it... So he has a power (?) to MAKE NEW SWORDS? But he can't just do it immediately. It doesn't sound like it's conjured (also he's an enhancer iirc so he WOULDN'T have good affinity for conjuration anyways) so I have... zero guesses as to how he made his sword. It's nice to finally have a hint at his abilities though since we know very little about him :)?

I already saw this in the raws but GOD. IT'S SO AWESOME. Look at the STAIRS, look at how they climb into the distance.

I do really like the Zakuro and Hinrigh conversation, trying to figure out what happened to her though. They're smart! They knew Lynch!!! They also know nen, and I love seeing characters try to puzzle out what nen ability could work--was it a disguise, or manipulation, etc etc and what did "Hisoka" want from doing this to Lynch. And now they're fully prepared to kill Bonolenov, and by extension, the Phantom Troupe... Yet another layer to the complicated mafia war

AND THEN WE GET TO CHROLLO'S SECTION. SO EXCITING.

There's so many answers here about Chrollo's goals on the Black Whale. We see exactly why he's here, what he wants to steal, where it is, how it affects his ability... He's planned it out so much. He even knows that Hisoka is on tier 1 and he could run into him...

And he's also planning to DIE if he has to. We know that the other Spiders want to kill Hisoka first in order to stop this, but Chrollo has already decided to go all in on not mattering as a person. He created the Spider, he will protect the Spider. He needs to kill Hisoka before they kill the rest of his friends, and his own life doesn't matter to him (same as we saw in Yorknew)!!! BUT I think the mention of him having "two conflicting emotions" is interesting because I think it might indicate that part of him also wants to stop this too. I doubt those emotions would be like... "rage and grief" which DO work together for this revenge plot. I think that he's going all in on the revenge against Hisoka to avoid thinking about this other conflicting emotion.

Going forward, Chrollo is going to fuck with the succession war. It sounds like he doesn't know about Kurapika's presence which coulddd cause some issues. I have a feeling they're going to run into each other one way or another.

Succession war-wise, upcoming plotlines and theories:

Kurapika's next nen class should have happened before the funeral procession, and during it, Sarahell (Camilla's have-not soldier) was supposed to attempt to curse Woble

The funeral procession is going to be an opportunity for Halkenburg-as-Balsamilco to use his ability, maybe? We don't know what his plan is in the 10 hours he has in Balsamilco's body, but either way it's going to bring Halkenburg back to tier 1, where he'll presumably have contact with Benjamin. If the theory that Halkenburg intends to put himself/one of his followers in Benjamin's body is correct, this could cause a major shift.

Melody, Kacho, and Kaiser haven't done their Prince Luzurus assassination yet, but that's supposed to happen. Killing him would also destabilize the mafia conflict even further and possible usher in martial law if Benjamin is able to.

Chrollo is going to try to break into the succession war and steal *the very things creating it.* This will likely destabilize things, or maybe give an opportunity for the princes to no longer need to be part of it? No idea.

Chrollo is also looking for a nen ability, and his stolen power lets him set conditions for an ability he wants to find. I didn't believe the theories from last chapter that Chrollo might end up wanting to steal one of Kurapika's abilities, but if Chrollo doesn't know about Kurapika and is only looking for a specific kind of ability... that seems like a perfect opportunity for Chrollo to get close to him, for better or for worse, attempting to steal judgement chain. I cannot imagine how difficult this would make things for Kurapika. Alternatively, he could go after a prince, or Kurapika's allies... There's a lot of options on tier 1, which is why this is scary

There's other plotlines going on, but these are immediate ones, and ones I have thoughts on right now.

Also, for the place the treasures are: I'd be SHOCKED if at least one of them wasn't HERE:

It also seems clearer now that these coffins (?) are powering at least one of the treasures. Maybe the sword given to the winner of the succession war? Either way, it seems like the divine mummy is the one that needs to be destroyed in order for Kurapika's plan to save Woble to succeed, so either way Chrollo and Kurapika are aiming for the same thing now.

Additionally, I like this in the context of Hinrigh's crew on the whale: He took a female emitter (whose ability effectively makes her an enhancer) and a manipulator, both considered unreliable or unoptimal and he's like yeah. The anemic and the girl boss.

One of each type except for manipulator, and every ability except gon's has a mix of utility and combat prowess. The main four is a little small to see any clear trend of nen users in groups and what types they are.

One thing to note is that abilities made to obfuscate combat are not considered combat abilities; mind control is not considered a combat ability for example.

With more than twice as many members than nen types, the fact that there is only 1 emitters seems odd, and even if you include later members like Illumi, Kalluto and the fake stupid fuck from the movies, the trend stays the same. Additionally, franklin seems to have a lot of friction with most of the members of the troupe at one time or another.

This makes me Headcanon that emitters are seen as more reckless and less reliable, and generally not favored for group actions.

Additionally, there are no enhancers with utility to their abilities. We know from Bill's ability that this is possible, but more common with female enhancers. I also want to note that Feitan is essentially an enhancer, given the reactive nature of his abilities and how adjacent transmutation is to enhancement.

This makes me think that more than other types, enhancers are seen for their gender and possibly male enhancers are preferred for their presumed combat effectiveness.

Above all, it seems that the most common abilities provide a blend of utility and combat prowess which. yea. Duh.

I would LOVE to go deep and talk about more groups but there are so few we know anything about. GREED ISLAND and the zodiacs are the main ones I wish I could write about.

As a final note, I headcanon that manipulators generally don't play well with others, and shalnark is an exception rather than the rule, because all of the later members of the troupe who are manipulators come in with their own intentions.

Rereading chapters 392/393 feels so different now, I'm gonna analyze every word and slightest microexpression of "Hisoka" (wait, does it mean that this amazing fit was also Bono's idea??)

Zakuro said Bono has "overwhelming aura" and "he's more dangerous than anyone we've ever met". I wonder if he can somewhat mimic auras of people he impersonates, or that's his own power. He's a Spider, so neither would be that surprising tbh.

I hope there will be more about his abilities. Summoning Jupiter and changing appearance fit Conjuration, but how they fit with each other? And his dances? Does Bonolenov just have versatile interests or are those things connected in some way? (yes, I like to overthink Nen, how could you tell?)

I like when characters think. And are intelligent. Like Chrollo predicting what mafia will do with Hisoka, or Nobunaga, Feitan and Phinks deducing what Heil-Ly Family is up to. In general, I think this series is very good at not making characters "stupid for the sake of plot" and making them logical or realistically illogical instead. I didn't realize how I missed it during the hiatus. Well, I assume that, by HxH tradition, nothing will go according to any plan ever made anyway, but I appreciate that those plans are good.

I have a feeling that a lot of people will be dying soon, and I don't like it, cause I got attached to a lot of those randoms but.. Morena 🥰😍💕

After Hatsu June, I want to rework the layout of ability card to be a little more intuitive, specifically moving the Aura Point Cost box to the top right and moving the complexity and ability types below the chart.

to this end, I want to have a few abilities line up for testing this new layout before I start to port all of Hatsu June to it.

To THAT end I want to poll people's favorite abilities from hxh and try out those ones. I'll be going by whatever arcs/abilties catch my interest.
