You must look odd, Thanatos and you both, side-by-side watching the bloody River Styx lap lazily at the entrance to the House. Like a welcoming committee. It’s always bothered you, the set of several steps that souls must ascend when they arrive. The recently dead.

"I don't want him to succeed or fail necessarily," Thanatos relents in a quiet tone. The goody two shoes as always. "I want him to quit this foolish quest. There is no escape."

You scoff. "Zagreus isn't exactly known for his obedience to Hades, Brother, let alone anyone else. That includes Death." You smile at the irony. "In more ways than one."

"I'm aware," he says dryly. His bright yellowish eyes flicker to you. "Yet I... I can’t help but aid him. You have more faith in him than I.”

“I know.”

“Then I'll leave you to it, Coma.”

Always so impersonal. You roll your eyes. "Death."

You don't know how likely it is, this time versus all the others. Zagreus always exudes the same determined sheen in his eyes on his way out, after a kiss goodbye. You never quit wishing him luck. All the times you can get away it, you meet him in Erebus for a trial to his strength, then a reward... But you couldn't fine the time, this time.

At last, the thick, bloody waters ripple and undulate at the arrival of a powerful soul. That fluffy tuft of dark hair, dark as night, appears first, before the rest of him wades out of the shallow Styx.

You sigh tightly at the dreadful sight of him. “Zagreus.”

“It's you,” he murmurs. He seems even paler than usual—and the blood that clings to certain wounds doesn't help.

To your surprise, he stumbles at the top step. You shoot out to brace his fall when he collapses to his knees, right into your arms.

"Agh," he grunts softly. "As... if I need one more injury. Damn... Damn Theseus."

"Oh, Zag." You throw a glance over your shoulder at the wide hall laid out behind you. Hypnos is sleeping on his seat as usual. No one is looking, much less the shivering, pathetic shades in their cloaks.

He slurs his next words severely, muffled by your neck and its nightly collar adorning it. "I’m used to it. It's... Having someone waiting on me isn’t a bad deal.”

Your heart trembles for Zagreus in his current state. You simply kneel and hold him, stroking underneath his sash, his toned back. The weakness lasts only a little while. Dying is disorienting, normally. Not that he even shows that measure of weakness.

Time passes. Too much time for your comfort.

"I shall help you," you murmur. "It's the least I could do."

Both his arms wearily rise and touch your waist, surprising you with how quick he is to allow help. In a whispered flutter, the faint shift in space, you appear on the wrinkled rug before the foot of his bed and the massive, overstuffed trunk that sits there. As before, you’re embracing on the floor.

"...That's enough shifting time and space for one day, I think," he sighs, already sounding like the usual headstrong, dry-humored Zagreus again. He leans back, and braces himself on one knee to rise back to his feet.

Although wary, you let him be. He drops to a heavy sit on the side of his bed.

"There are other ways to aid you, love," you say warmly. "Speak to me."

He gives you a lazy stare. "Theseus."

You chuckle bitterly.

"Blast…" He touches his regal sash. "It ripped. Again. That’s what I get for—”

“For not wearing armor like not only Achilles, but I advised?”

With a huff, he nudges the frayed silken cloth off his shoulder, until the blood-red sash entirely drops to his lap. He’s left more or less shirtless. What’s left holding the rest of his garb together is the skulls, fashioned into a belt above his waist.

You stare, a little longingly. Across his chest, a heavy gash you hadn’t seen before is now out in the open. “You’re too fashionable, Zag.”

“Something like that… Maybe if I dressed like a shade I could sneak my way past Theseus and his companion, you think?”

With fresh linens in your arms, you approach, and wipe away the blood dutifully. Zagreus is no simple man—no simple shade, either—but that doesn’t mean he has to bleed all over his bed. “I’m sorry. I hear he’s insufferable.”

Not one for conversation anymore, he grunts, and delicately places his crown aside. It’s hues like autumn, shared between himself and Hades. And once upon a time, his mother Persephone. It’s extraordinary to you that he continues to wear it despite him. But then again, if Zagreus cared not for family, he wouldn’t pursue his mother. Again and again and again and…

Less care is taken to sliding down the two golden rings on his arm. When he leans, he wavers precariously for a moment, as if he’s moments from falling on his knees to the floor, but he—and you, your arm slung across his chest—catch him just in time.

His one crimson eye never shines so brilliantly as the green. Both are dull now. The most lively thing about his appearance now is the dull flames seething under his feet, which doesn’t say much at all.

“Sit still,” you say firmly. You should’ve added, and that is final.

You kneel down in front of him, and click free his skeletal belt, followed shortly by the rest of his royal garb. Obediently, he raises his bottom up so you can collect the ruined clothes. Dusa will have them mended in no time.

“I suppose if there’s anyone in this world—or under it…—I’d be willing to obey, it’s you.”

You huff fondly. "The highest of compliments, coming from you."

You ease him onto his back, bundling up the thick duvet and silken sheets around him like a sort of cocoon. You're tempted to tie the ends in a sort of knot, if it meant he'd rest for once. He watches you tend to him through lidded eyes until you toss his moppy black hair off his forehead, and they finally close. He's not even at liberty to complain that you should stay, he was so exhausted.

You lean down and kiss his forehead. Luckily for him, you already planned on it.

AN: What is a slow burn without the angst??

“Why go through all that effort? Surely you understand how dangerous it is,” You say, referring to his runs through the Underworld. As far as you know, there’s been several. Buried in the covers with a good book, you lay on your side and flip to the next page, though it's lost your attention since Zagreus arrived. “Death may be normal here, but the pain…”

At your lounge chair, Zagreus waves you off, eyes flicking from your figure to your sketchbook in his lap between exaggerated strokes, obnoxiously scritching the parchment. You roll your eyes. “I’m more than familiar with pain. As for why…”

Hearing the somber shift in his tone, you look up, willing him to meet your gaze. “Please don’t feel obligated to answer if it’s too personal.”

“No I… I trust you,” For a moment, Zagreus expression softens, like he can’t believe he’d befriend a demon to this point. You know you can’t, but you also know you could tell him anything and he’d listen.

Almost anything, that is.

The sketchbook shuts with a soft thud. Zagreus crosses the short distance to sit at the foot of your bed, by the curve of your hips. The bed dips under his weight before he takes a deep breath. “Long story short, I found out the mother that raised me isn’t my biological mother, and eventually I learned my biological mother escaped the Underworld and is somewhere on the surface.”

“So once you get to the surface, you intend to find her?”

“Exactly.”

“And what then?”

“Get answers,” He simply answers. Though his eyes steel with conviction, he slumps forward, resting his elbows on toned thighs.

Heat rises to your face, and you turn back to your book.

“You must think I’m a fool.”

“No.” Zagreus shoots you a flat look over his shoulder like he doesn't believe you, so you fully turn your attention to him. “Really! I don’t. I mean, shades aren’t allowed to leave the Underworld, natural order and all that.”

“…Shades. Right,” He says slowly, breaking eye contact for a split second.

“But I understand why you’d want to try. I just wish I could help you in some way, maybe smuggle you out on my next job.”

He perks up, gazing at you curiously, “You’ve been to the surface?”

“A few times for work. Though it has been a while since my last assignment…”

“What’d you have to do?”

Oh, you know: make contracts with humans and feed off them until they’re a husk of their former selves. You know, as succubus do. You settle on, “Demon things. You wouldn’t get it.”

Zagreus shrugs, unable to argue with that.

“… Suppose you do find your mother and get your answers,” You start, tone low and nervous. You swallow, trying to keep your nerves from wracking your vocal cords, keeping the tremble out of your voice. “What-what do you plan to do after?”

“That depends,” Wild, black hair falls over his eyes as his gaze drops to the floor. “If she hates me or not.”

You cock your head. Was that fear in his tone? For a moment, you allow yourself to study his broad back, scolding yourself when you admire the exposed ridges of muscle. Harsh, green light frames his profile, turning him into a slim silhouette among the soft shadows of your chamber. But now, as he sits at the edge of your bed, no longer he looks poised and regal as he usually does. No boons livening the air around him, no charming grin or cocky smirk. Posture be damned, he slouches, beautiful lips pressed thin, and he looks defeated—no, he looks…

Tired.

It never occurred to you how miserable your friend is here in the Underworld. He always seemed so lively by the time he reached your chamber, even when he’s scuffed and bloodied, like the heat of battle cheers him up. And yes, it’s Tartarus; souls are supposed to be despaired, miserable, tortured—for gods’ sake, it’s your jobs—but looking at Zagreus, exhausted yet still handsome as ever in his flaming laurels and refined chiton, feet seering footprints into your floor, he looks out of place in your humble abode.

Your heart clenches, suddenly self aware. Self conscious. Differences that hardly mattered before now at the forefront of your thoughts.

“I’m not finished, by the way.”

You meet his gaze, visibly perplexed though it’s painful. His heterochromia, the contrast of the blood red and forest green, is needlessly beautiful, as if the man isn’t magnificent enough already. Curse his family for whatever genes they poured into him.

The bed rises once more and as Zagreus leaves for the balcony, the gap between you—once miniscule and quickly closing—begins turning into a chasm.

“My drawing. It’s nowhere done.” Stopping before the balcony’s threshold, Zagreus gestures to the sketchbook. You sit up, blankets and furs pooling into your lap as you take it into your hands.

You, or a semblance of yourself at least, stares back. The strokes are short, thick, lines of charcoal jagged and uneven, though that’s to be expected. Zagreus snorted at you he buys art not create it, but that did nothing to deter him from trying. You lent him your sketchbook and pencils anyway, the thought of sharing your hobby with him filling you with giddiness you haven’t experienced in gods’ know how long.

As you study the amateur sketch of yourself, your heart swells so big, it terrifies you. There’s scuffed edges where the side of his palm pressed into the strokes, leaving partial prints. The proportions are atrocious, and if he’d been anyone else you’d tear into him. Yet, far from accurate as it may be, he manages to highlight your most discernible features. Just not the ones you expect. It’s not your chest or your hips or waist or even your legs, no.

It’s the fluid lash of your tail as you lay on your stomach, as if he tried to capture the cat-like movements on paper; the draping of your wings and the way you relax them against your back like a blanket; the graceful curve of your horns, the ends pointed not in a threat but a promise. And your face—

Smudges blot all over the background of your figure but most of all where your face is, the paper slightly damaged as if he erased one too many times trying to capture your visage.

Your heart skips. Blood and darkness.

As Zagreus’s back disappears behind the rumbling door to the next chamber, it’s for the best, you think, left to the familiarity of your quiet chamber. Your heart thunders in your ears.

Zagreus and you, a demon—a succubus? You’d never last.

As friends. As friends, of course.

This is for the best. 

It’s for the best.

…Is it possible to feel loss when there is nothing to begin with?

Eyes misting over, you snatch up your sketchbook and pencils, letting your tears stain the page with Zagreus’s eyes still fresh in your mind.

i keep saying i’m in a reading slump but really I just can’t stop playing hades 😔

succumbing to the Brainrot of Hades (the more Gameplays I see, the more I love the game, both as a fan of Greek mythology and of video games in general) I am going to do a couple of jobs related to the game. Here it would be the first.

Zagreus(Hades) x Leuce! reader

quick context: Leuce was a nymph who was Hades' lover before Persephone, but since she was "mortal" (which doesn't make much sense? since she was the daughter of Oceanus and Thetis?) when Hades died, he immortalized her in the white poplar tree that there are in the Elysian fields.

Taking this as a reference, I imagine this Leuce! reader OBVIOUSLY she would not be a lover of Hades here, she would probably be a nymph native to the Eulisseum and who is especially related to healing (the poplar can be used to cure fever) and in general she tried to go unnoticed, due to the bad luck that usually have nymphs that are related to the celestial commotion.

She is like an Aurora in a way, she has a great connection with the Shades that live near her and follow her (similar to Melinoe) and together with her sisters and Cocito (one of the rivers of the Underworld) they dance and sing old stories .

It is around these times that Zagreus comes into her life. precisely because of his attempts to escape from the Underworld.

When one day Zag arrives at Elysium especially hurt and tired, he decides to "rest" (the poor guy gets tired) and when he regains consciousness he only knows that he is suddenly much better. without injuries, with energy, what the hell?

Leuce, although he knows that Zagreus is somewhat infamous in the Underworld, could not simply leave him dying. She swears she won't do it again, but as soon as it happens again (Zag probably had a bad time with Astherius) she does it again.

and after that Zagreus has no doubt, someone is helping him. and being him, he wants to know who it is.

Which wasn't that difficult, but it did take some patience. Zagreus arrived at the Elysium, not that hurt, but he pretended to be unconscious, after he felt he was better, he took a little look and saw Leuce from behind.

a nymph huh.

It's a shame that when Zagreus tried to get up to greet her, thanking her, he scared her and she ran away :,)

On another occasion he decided to take a look at where Leuce had gone and he could just find her singing, dancing or taking care of the poplar trees that were in Elysium.

In general, his interactions at first would be short due to Leuce's fear of the gods or retaliation for her actions, but with time and Zagrues assuring her that he rather wanted to thank her for the help, she relaxes and opens up little by little.

I imagine that Leuce is the only nymph of Elysium that is not scared the most when they see Zagreus 😅 her sisters run and scream when they see him but Leuce stays to greet him 🤣

Leuce's home is a safe place in Elysium, not only because she can heal Zag, but because in general he can forget a little about the outside problems there. hell, sometimes it even seems like he just lets himself get hurt so Leuce can take care of him.

When Leuce is not taking care of him/healing him like I said, she likes to dance and sing, maybe to inspire her a little (similar to what he does with Orpheus) he tells her some of his fights to date and myths about his relatives (Leuce would die laughing when hearing the myth that Dionysus and Zagreus are the same person).

Also even Leuce could offer to teach him how to play instruments! The nymphs were very good at all kinds of arts, so it wouldn't be very difficult. Besides, it would be nice to be the one teaching after all.

Zagreus and Leuce dancing gives me some sleeping beauty vibes. again.

If we talk about terms of relationship in which Leuce lives in the house of Hades, it gets even cuter.

Imagine Leuce and Dusa having a platonic relationship! o Dusa not only having a crush on Zag, but also on Leuce since she helps him clean and feed Cerberus

or Leuce dancing every time Orpheus starts playing and singing, also encouraging some of the nearby shades to do the same😭 it definitely livens up the house quite a bit before Persephone's arrival.

I don't know which would be more difficult to win, Hades with Leuce or Zagreus with Leuce's sisters😅

At least Hades would accept Leuce because 1- now he has a better relationship with Zagreus and wants to see him happy and 2- he is not going to provoke Persephone's wrath. Who, by the way, is delighted with Leuce. It's like a small parallel of her and Hades if they could have met under other circumstances. so she is very supportive of her relationship with Zagreus and how happy they make each other.

Zagreus will have more problems related to Leuce's sisters because of the above, they are both scared of Zag and convinced that he is planning something horrible with their sister. It will take a lot, a LOT of time and help from Leuce for them to understand that this is not the case.

Even if Leuce tries to help and maintain a certain formal air in the house, Zagreus tries to make her feel as welcome as possible, probably with some help from Hypnos, Cerberus (best boi) even Thanatos. that she lose her shyness and feel that, after all, it is also HER home now.

Did you see that in the Underworld Persephone has a Garden? imagine if Zagreus gets Leuce one of her own🥺

Definitely Zagreus (and in general several other characters like Dusa for being a sweetheart) is not going to tolerate any type of discrimination towards Leuce due to her origin as a nymph (we know that there are gods who took mortals as spouses, but the only nymph who married a god that comes to mind now is Amphitrite) and he would gladly ask Cerberus to go "play" with whoever made any out of place comments :)

They might as well go to the surface together! Of course, neither of them really know how to interact with mortals or how certain things work up there, but I think Zagreus could use some help taking care of his mother's garden while he's there. Who better than a beautiful nymph?

Overall, a pretty endearing pair. and gives some visibility to a very forgotten nymph :,)

Ah, some good ol’ Thanzag. I adore these guys, and probably would whether they were canon or not. I’ve been shipping for a long time, and canon has no bearing on how much I love a ship. That being said, them being an actually factually 100% canon couple is just hnnnnnnng. The best.

And I also love a nice Modern Setting AU, and this one is especially great. The backstory is heartbreaking, but that just makes Than and Zagreus’ reconnection - and falling in love! - that much better, that much more meaningful, you know? The emotional beats are all well-earned and ring true. It’s very easy to get invested, not just in the love story but in both of their individual lives as well. Their characterizations are spot on, and I appreciated the appearances of other characters too, brief as they were. Like Nyx. I adore her. And Mort as a pet rat! Yessss. Everyone feels like a real person, not just a character from a video game, lol.

One random thing I particularly enjoy is that, while the sex/nsfw scenes are all amazing, the author offers summaries in the notes of those chapters, making note of important plot points, just in case a reader doesn’t want to go through porn to get to them. It’s really sweet and thoughtful!

Now Arriving, The Hype Train - Five of the Most Anticipated Games of 2024

   Happy new year, readers! You know what the best thing about a new year is? New games to look forward to! Well, for me, anyway. There've been some exciting announcements from last year, from big name new releases, like Nintendo and Star Wars games, to long-awaited sequels of beloved indie games. There’s something for everyone; Ubisoft’s marauding pirate game Skull & Bones, a supervillainous shooter in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and plenty of remakes and remasters, such as yet another Final Fantasy remake. On top of that, rumours abound about a potential successor to the Nintendo Switch being announced later this year - they’re only rumours, of course, but it’s certainly an exciting idea. Now, for something more substantial: I’ve gathered up a list of what might be among the most highly-anticipated game releases planned for 2024 - take a look for yourself!

Princess Peach: Showtime!    One of the most famous women's faces in gaming will finally be taking centre stage once again in 2024 - literally! Trapped in a stage play overtaken by the Wicked Grape and her sour minions, Princess Peach will be rescuing herself this time as she fights her way across theatre-themed stages with her new powerful sidekick Stella. Stella will allow Peach to transform into various different costumes, each granting her unique abilities like swashbuckling Swordfighter Peach and expert tracker Detective Peach. It’s been over 18 years since Peach headlined her own video game, but considering her growing protagonistic role in recent Super Mario games, leaving her damsel-in-distress role behind and joining Mario in the action, it’s about time she gets the leading role once more! Princess Peach: Showtime! will be coming to a Nintendo Switch near you on March 22nd.

Hades II    Hades, Supergiant Games’ mythical roguelike that has taken gaming by storm since 2018, is getting an almighty sequel this year with Hades II planned to enter early access in the first half of 2024. Once again, players will battle through the ever-changing Underworld of Greek mythology, encountering various gods - both new and familiar - that will help or hinder your grand odyssey. Play as Melinoë, sister to the first games’ protagonist Zagreus, daughter of Hades and the immortal Princess of the Underworld, as she faces off against the mighty Chronos. The Titan of Time takes the role of the main antagonist this time around, having kidnapped dear old dad Hades and plotting to wage war against all of Olympus. Will Melinoë survive the trials of the treacherous Underworld and save her father, or will her time run out?

Hyper Light Breaker    Better brush up on your swordplay skills and practise that aim, because it’s time to return to the world of Heart Machine’s Hyper Light Drifter in its upcoming successor, Hyper Light Breaker! Following Risk of Rain’s example, Breaker is taking the leap from Drifter’s pixel-art isometric style to a grand, 3-D open-world adventure with co-op multiplayer and roguelike elements. Players will control one of a ragtag group called the Breakers, navigating the dangerous Overgrowth with hoverboards and gliders at breakneck pace. Customise your Breaker’s loadout with whatever gear you find on your journey, mixing-and-matching melee and ranged attacks to fit your personal playstyle. Get ready to explore new corners of the world introduced in the award-winning Hyper Light Drifter from a new action-packed perspective as Hyper Light Breaker enters early access later this year!

Star Wars Outlaws    Rev up that hyperdrive, get a good blaster by your side, and return to the galaxy far, far away in a brand new, single-player open-world interstellar adventure: Star Wars Outlaws! While the Empire is busy battling the Rebellion and Han Solo is in the middle of a carbonite nap, a new scoundrel on the scene named Kay Vess aims to make a name for herself in the galaxy’s thriving criminal underworld. Pick sides or go it alone in a choices-matter storyline, combining sneaking around and straight fights across plenty of planets, both familiar and new. In the current age of live-service, microtransaction-laden online PvP games, it’s a welcome sight to see a big-name, purely single-player, narrative-driven release like this. Outlaws has no specific confirmed release date, but as Ubisoft tends to release games around October or November, we can expect Outlaws to release sometime in the latter half of 2024.

World of Goo 2    Feel that nostalgia? That’s right; World of Goo, one of the earliest and most definitive examples of a successful indie game from way back in 2008, is finally getting a sequel - fifteen years later! Announced completely out of the blue during the 2023 Game Awards, there hasn’t been much confirmed about the game quite yet besides an expected release in 2024. Even so, the announcement trailer brings back much of the familiar satirical humour and strangely-unsettling monochromatic artstyle that fans loved from the original. For those that didn’t grow up playing this classic, World of Goo is a physics-based puzzler all about building precarious bridges out of goo balls, crossing gaps and avoiding obstacles to get as many goo balls from point A to point B as possible, all under a narrative of corporate greed and consumption that rings truer than ever nowadays. The sequel will certainly have a lot to talk about, I’m sure.

   Of course, there are plenty more games set to release in 2024, many of which haven’t even been announced yet - who knows, we might even finally get Silksong this year! “So… why?”

“Hm?”

“Why black and white? Why not in color?” Without looking up, Zagreus thumbs through one of your old sketchbooks, the light framing his profile in a soft green. Pieces of parchment fall out and he fumbles. You shake your head with a smile, facing your easel once again.

You hate to admit it, but you think you made the right choice welcoming Zagreus into your life. His visits—brief as they are—quickly become a highlight of your day. He’s not around all the time, but when he does happen to stop by, you find the rest of the day to go by quicker, easier. Even work feels less exhausting.

It’s been a long time since you had a friend. Especially someone as easy to talk to as Zagreus. It’s… nice. He’s nice.

To think not too long ago, you tried to bring him to his knees and suck the soul out of him. You’re glad you didn’t. Mostly.

A small part of you would still love to see him on his knees, but you banish the thought as quickly as it came.

Touching Zagreus with even an ounce of your normal power feels sacrilegious. Not that it affected him before, which you still don’t understand. Still, you dampen your aura as a precaution, letting out enough so as not to strain yourself. For some reason it felt wrong to touch him in that way. He’s too good. Pure.

Ironic, considering the amount of times he’s entered your domain splattered in blood. And yet somehow, he still manages to bring you gifts between runs.

You’ve never known someone to be in possession of so much nectar. And he just hands it out freely? The demonic, selfish part of you can’t understand why. Perhaps he’s bored of the stuff. Common in his corner of the Underworld. The thought of this stuff just laying around makes you chuckle. In all seriousness, where he gets it, you suspect he’s got a supplier of some sort, probably in the deepest pits of Taratarus. The Tartarian and Asphodelish marketplaces sure don’t.

They don’t have a lot of things.

“It’s not that I can’t color. I just don’t have any,” You shrug, continuing to sharpen and blend shadows where you see fit. “Trust me. I’ve visited every market in Tartarus and Asphodel; art materials aren’t exactly high in demand.”

Zagreus looks up from your sketchbook, parchment sheets filled to the brim with charcoal and lead. “And Elysium? There’s a grand market by the arena, you know.” He’s not trying to be condescending—you know—but a dull ache forms at the back of your skull, a sour squirm rising in your chest at his ignorance. His naivety.

“And you truly believe they’d serve me?” You scoff.

“Why not?”

You raise an eyebrow, and he meets your gaze, unwavering, like he can’t see the horns, wings, and tail. He is so used to your presence, they no longer register.

That makes you no less a demon. A succubus.

You shake your head, “Contrary to popular belief, Elysium don’t take kindly to beings like me.”

“Oh. I’m sorry.”

You give him a tightlipped smile as his brow furrows, visibly crestfallen. “Don’t worry your pretty, little head, Zagreus. It is what it is.” Turning back to the canvas, you swirl your brush and mix different gray tones on your palette. Oh, why is getting the right shade so difficult?

Sensing the shift in your mood, Zagreus glances down, flipping through your old sketches, all black and white and shades of gray. “But if you had the materials, would you? Draw and paint in color?”

You don’t even have to think, your eyes focused on a particular corner of the painting. “Yes.”

A moment later, stone rumbles and you look up in time to see his footprints cool off. The sketchbook has returned to its rightful place, wedged between the leather-bound novels and trinkets in your bookcase.

Two runs later, Zagreus barges in, gasping for breath like he raced over as soon as he could. There’s burns on his arms, blood sprayed across his face, a gaping wound on his thigh as if he’d been stabbed, but none of that matters—not to him at least—as he holds out a box held with twine to you, his teeth bared in an eager smile.

And when he slaps down a handful of colorful gems for a commission, your cheeks grow sore, unable to stop smiling back.

Get ready for Hades 2 with Steam sale on Supergiant’s unmissable past

Few video games can make me shiver with anticipation like Hades 2 does; I nearly still can't believe we're going to get a sequel to one of the best roguelike games ever. However, Supergiant Games' prior work served as the foundation for Hades, and a huge Steam discount currently allows you to catch up on that history in preparation for Hades 2 without having to spend a fortune. First up, of course, is the original Hades itself. With a wealth of awards and accolades under its belt, Supergiant’s latest should likely need no introduction. If you haven’t played the tale of Zagreus attempting to escape his dull life in the house of his father Hades by fighting his way through the hordes of the Underworld with the help of the Greek pantheon’s most famous faces, I can’t recommend it enough. Hades takes the repeatable progression of other excellent roguelikes such as the Binding of Isaac, Dead Cells, and Spelunky, and enhances it with both a more approachable ramp that lets you control your level of challenge, and a constant sprinkling of story that reassures you that you’re never wasting your time, even when a run goes badly. It broke out of its established genre boundaries for good reason, and at half price now’s a great time to find out exactly why so many people have fallen in love with its charms. Supergiant Games Steam sale - Bastion: The Kid fights a Windbag that's wielding a large axeIf the combat of Hades is what excites you most, then see where it all began with Bastion. I replayed Supergiant’s debut game just a few months ago and, while it’s certainly not quite as smooth and flowing as Hades is, the core feel of its fighting holds up well. The lush environments you traverse, meanwhile, absolutely do stand side-by-side with everything else Supergiant has made since, and its soundtrack is a perfect accompaniment. Playing Bastion, you’ll quickly realise that Supergiant’s penchant for a wealth of weird and wonderful weapons has been there right from the get-go, with all manner of different tools at your disposal, each with their own range of special abilities to choose from. It’s also a fantastic opportunity to hear the first outing of regular Supergiant narrator Logan Cunningham, who takes up similar roles in Transistor and Pyre, and voices the eponymous big man himself alongside several other characters in Hades. Supergiant Steam sale - Pyre: three characters, Hedwyn, Rukey, and Jodariel, look expectantly at the camera, inviting the Reader to sit with themPerhaps the thing you love most about Hades is its intricate web of characters, each clearly defined on their own yet constantly intermingling with one another in all manner of cleverly designed interactions. If that’s the case, let me present Pyre. Supergiant’s third game tells the tale of a ragtag bunch of outcasts attempting to win their freedom from the Downside by travelling the land and competing in matches of 3-on-3 fantasy basketball. That’s right: half narrative adventure, half sports game, Pyre effortlessly blends the two together to tell a branching story that can pan out in a multitude of ways. Losing a match doesn’t mean game over; it simply changes what happens next. The complex relationships you build in Pyre will make you care about every outcome, however, and they’ll also leave you genuinely agonising whether you should tell your dog pal Rukey to shave off that distinctive moustache. Supergiant Games Steam sale - Transistor: Red, a lady with vibrant red hair in a gold and black dress, pulls the glowing turquoise Transistor from a lifeless bodyFor those of you who crave interweaving systems that let you combine abilities in all manner of fun permutations much the way Hades boons do, there’s an easy choice. Transistor tells the beautiful, haunting tale of Red, a singer on the run through a high-rise sci-fi city who is accompanied by a talking sword, the titular Transistor. Its real hook, however, is its skill system. The Functions you get in Transistor are skills that offer three different… well, functions. You can use them as an active ability, you can use them to upgrade the effects of another Function, or you can apply them to Red for a passive effect. This turns the sixteen Functions you’ll gain over the course of the game into thousands of possible build combinations, and you’re encouraged to experiment as using a Function in different roles will unlock additional story snippets about the world and its inhabitants. As a simple example, Ping’s active ability fires rapid shots in one direction. Alternatively, you can apply Ping to another Function to lower its cost and speed up its execution, or you can fit Ping as a passive, where it’ll grant you vastly more movement in Transistor’s ‘Turn’ mode, which allows you to freeze time and plan out a rapid-fire sequence of actions that Red will execute in quick succession upon unpausing. While Hades is certainly the pinnacle of Supergiant’s catalogue to date, Transistor still holds a very special place in my heart. HADES AU: Dead Royalty

This is more than a fixed "character x reader" job, this is a job related to an AU of the Hades video game that I came up with based on the interactions of Hades and Zagreus in the game.

We all know that the relationship between these two is BAD, Hades even having depth and reasons to hide things from his son does not excuse him from being a horrible and abusive father towards him, even if he improved as a person and changed, it came to mind? What if with now extra motivation, years of repressed anger, and perhaps a side effect of the mirror of darkness, Zagreus had... enough?

What if somehow Zagreus had been able to "get rid" of Hades in the Underworld? That way he could visit his mother as much as he wanted without having to step over him, or having Hades reveal his location in his escapes, he would no longer have him making life difficult for him and everyone in Hades' house, so why No?

Obviously things go deeper than that, when eventually Hades's absence ends up affecting the stability of the Underworld, a replacement is needed, and Zagreus is his only heir here, so he does it.

That's why I temporarily call this Au "Dead Royalty AU", although any suggestion is fine.

In general, several of Zagreus' relationships remain intact as they are not related to his rank, such as Skelly, Dusa, Orpheus, Eurydice, his mother (who may or may not return to the underworld to help her son), Nyx, Hypnos, etc. .

while others may see Zagrues differently by seeing what he did and how it affected him, like Thanatos, Meg (these two especially even feeling a little guilty for having contributed in some way to the breakdown that led Zagreus to make this decision) Maybe Achilles? Zagreus is still a good guy, a prankster, an animal lover, someone with good intentions in the Underworld who doesn't want to be like his father, but definitely the excessive use of darkness and what it did to his father messed with his head a little. .

esto mas que un trabajo fijo de "personaje x lector" esto es un trabajo relacionado con un AU del videojuego de Hades que se me ocurrio en en base a las interacciones de Hades y Zagreus en el juego.

todos sabemos que la relación entre estos dos es MALA, Hades aun teniendo profundidad y razones para ocultar cosas a su hijo no lo excusa de ser un padre horrible y abusivo hacia el, incluso si mejoro como persona y cambio, me vino a la mente ¿que hubiera pasada si con ahora una motivación extra, los años de ira reprimida, y talvez un efecto secundario del espejo de la oscuridad, Zagreus tenga... suficiente?

¿que pasaria si de alguna forma Zagreus hubiera podida "deshacerse" de Hades en el Inframundo? de esa manera podria visitar a su madre todo lo que quisiera sin tener que pasar sobre el, o que Hades revelara su ubicación en sus huidas, ya no lo tendria haciendole la vida a el y a todos en la casa de Hades difícil, entonces ¿porque no?

obviamente las cosas son mas profundas que eso, cuando eventualmente la ausencia de Hades termina afectando la estabilidad del Inframundo, se necesita un reemplazo, y Zagreus es su unico heredero aqui, asi que lo hace.

por eso llamo de forma temporal este Au "Dead Royalty AU", aunque cualquier sugerencia esta bien.

en general varias de las relaciones de Zagreus se mantienen intactas al no estar relacionadas con su rango, como Skelly, Dusa, Orfeo, Euridice, su madre(que puede o no volver al inframundo a ayudar a su hijo), Nyx, Hypnos, etc.

el quiere hacer sus tareas y mejorar la vida de las personas en el inframundo(que se lo merezcan). aunque diria que esta algo endurecido por todo lo que paso, esta feliz y tranquilo por primera vez en mucho tiempo.
