For a while now, I’ve had it set that I want my cartoon to have some musical segments (think of Animaniacs). Specifically, the music segments will be just my characters playing along to a lot of songs that I’ve been listening to and have been a fan of. (Although some of them will have to have altered lyrics). And well, I’ve always wanted one of my characters to be a full-on screaming vocalist, and that character is Kai Manėtag (Ik I keep talking about him. I will try to get to making/posting a picture of him so everyone will know what he looks like); Kai will, obviously, specialize in handling scream vocals. His favorite genres of music are metalcore and/or screamo, and he’s inspired by these specific vocalists:

And the only person(s) I could think that could help provide screams with the same range as these vocalists would have to be these 2 guys up above, named Zach T. Farris and Ohrion Reacts (YouTube). You may be more familiar with these two for their cover of “King For A Day” by Pierce The Veil featuring Kellin Quinn of Sleeping With Sirens, which you can find on TikTok.

I can only tolerate so many truly obnoxious characters at a time, and the marvelous mrs. maisel has 4. Sophie, Joel's parents (especially mom), and now Alfie. Not only are they obnoxious but they have way too much screen time. Like, I either need these characters to move countries or get hit by a bus. Realistically have their appearences reduced to an occasional cameo. I'm not picky I'm just tired of seeing them and dread every moment they're on screen.

im gonna flipflop between Into The Descent and Boring Days heeheheh

(ITD) Daedalus: I dont exactly know what I was doing, but i was scrolling through Behind The Name and ended up finding out that "Daedalus" means something along the lines of "cunning worker" or something with the word cunning and doing something

(ITD) Mangrove, Isles, and Roots: They are all respectively named after the continents they rule over, but their real names (in that of which I cannot say) are all named after religious/mythological figures that fit their personalities :)

(ITD) Marguerite Garr: She's actually named after Marguerite Baker from Resident Evil 7 lmao

(BD) Hopper: I was sitting and thinking of a new concept for a ghost and decided on "Hopper" after making the simple realization that it REALLY likes to hop around in other people's bodies and possess them.

(ITD) Pretty much everyone in the Garr family (minus Irving and Marguerite): Everyone has the same running gag of their names having two rr's in their name! Garrett, Forrest, Farris, Dorris, Vierra, and Carrie.

(BD) Clyde and Vincent: They're named after Clyde Lankmann and Dr. Lankmann of (old lore) DOAI! It's my favorite analog horror series and (besides it being my main kick to start Into The Descent) I wanted to make a really obvious reference to it :))

(BD) Mason and Eric: Those were actually supposed to be placeholder names, but after awhile and not asking anyone for better names i decided to keep them! fun fact their last names are complete gibberish :3

(ITD) Laurel Aydan: Theres a mall nearby me and I so happened to think of it at the right time of creating this character!

(BD) Demi Loh: I got her full name from the Sims 4 when I was first creating Boring Days.

(BD) Raymond and Zachary: Their original names were just straight up Ray and Zach, but after a long time I kept constantly forgetting Zach's name, so i decided to make his name longer and then followed suit for Raymond. They also have another name gag where their middle names are shorter then their first and vice versa for Eric (Raymond Arin, Zachary Chaz, and Eric Frederick).

(ITD) Mills Wallace: This was another chance of me thinking of something at the right time, originally Mills' name could either be spelt Mill or Mills, but I just started fully calling him Mills after a certain amount of time. This was way back in the beginning of Descent when Mills still actually some sort of a family but I wanted them to have another running gag of their first names also being common last names. Fun fact: Mills' backstory was supposed to mimic Forrest's in a way.

thats all i can think of right now!!! i have a ton of characters who's names are supposed to mean something, but i can't think of all of them right now! actually thats probably a favor because then we would be here for years ;-;

Hal Jordan and Carrie Farris in the DCEU

Since I just found out that the girl from Man of Steel and Batman v Superman was named Carrie Farris and an allusion to Carol Ferris, and since we'll finally be seeing Hal Jordan Green Lantern in the Snyder Cut, I thought it'd be fun to write a headcanon of the two! Here it is:

Unlike the more commonly known origins of Hal Jordan and Carol Ferris, things are obviously different on this Universe. Known, as Carrie Farris in Zach Snyder's version of the DC Universe, her mother made sure she grew up with a decent life. The only problem with her childhood was her father, Willard Farris. With this his version of her father, he never owned Ferris Aircraft in Coast City, but instead was a junkie with a drinking problem and anger issues (somewhat like Mjs father in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man). Not wanting to be anything like her father, she joins the US Airforce and works up the ranks to becoming a major under command of General Swanwick.

Because Ferris Air never existed, that would mean Hal Jordan's father, Martin Jordan, never died in a Test Pilot crash. Instead, his father was in the Air Force and died overseas. Wanting to keep his father's legacy alive, Hal Jordan made a promise to himself to join the Air Force as soon as he could. Graduating the Academy with excellent grades and demonstrating remarkable piloting skills, he enlists. Fresh in the Air Force, he immediately began taking orders from his flight commander, Major Carrie Farris.

Eventually, Major Farris took a liking to Hal, he made it obvious that he liked her. He was always direct when it came to how he felt towards a woman. To anybody in the Air Force, he stood out because of his fearlessness in even the most dangerous of missions. He knew he had the skill and confidence that he'd complete any mission as told and Carrie admired his bravery and commitment to the Force. She liked the fact that she was in charge of one of the best air pilots. Hal asked her several times to go out with him but each time she rejected because of the fact that it was prohibited for an officer to date with enlisted members. Eventually, she agreed to have a secret relationship with him when he asked her again at a bar on base. She thinks she said yes because she was drunk, but she never ended it.

Everything changed on the day mankind was introduced to the Superman. Major Carrie had confidence that Superman would end General Zod's attack, however there was no denying that she was scared. She had a squad of pilots attempt to attack the Phantom Drive in Metropolis, one of the pilots being her secret lover, Hal Jordan. Their attack failed and Hal ended up being the only surviving member of his squad. Carrie assumed him dead along with the others until he showed up severely injured, but somehow managed to walk his way to Metropolis' Air Force base.

Hal and Carrie secretly dated for a year until things changed once again. When Hal was on a mission overseas, he ended up being pulled out of his jet by a green beam and being brought to an alien crash site. His jet crashed and Carrie assumed he was dead again. In reality, Hal was more alive than he ever felt before when the dying alien named Abin Sur gave Hal his ring. He finds his squad not to far from him and reports the alien crash to General Swanwick. Swanwick, secretly being J'onn J'onzz, recognizes Abin Sur as he was the Green Lantern who fought along side the Green Martians against the White Martians long ago. He immediately sees that his ring was gone and speculates that Hal now had it. Major Farris is once again glad that Hal was alive.

For months, he learns how to better control his ring and for months, Swanwick keeps a close eye on him. Hal then goes missing for another time, as his ring took him to Oa for the first time. He was then not allowed to return home under orders of the Guardians of the Universe until he was better trained to use his ring. He is missing during Doomsday's attack, the day Superman died. Carrie doesn't know where he has gone, but she refuses to believe he is dead.

Goldman Sachs' new managing-director list is out — and it's the largest class in the firm's history (GS)

Goldman Sachs announced its largest-ever class of managing directors.

Of the 509 promoted, 44% are millennials.

The firm announces managing-director promotions every two years.

It's one of the most coveted positions on Wall Street, a step below partner at the premier investment bank.

Goldman Sachs just announced a new class of 509 managing directors — the largest class in the firm's history.

The position is one of the most coveted on Wall Street, one step below partner at the prestigious investment-banking firm. The firm now has 2,148 managing directors, making up 7.1% of the company's workforce.

It's also one of the youngest classes the bank has promoted — 44% are millennials, up from 30% in 2015.

Other headline stats about the class:

66% started their careers as analysts or associates at Goldman Sachs.

24% of the class is women, down from 25% in 2015.

130 were promoted in the securities division, up from 102 in 2015.

101 were promoted in investment banking, up from 97 in 2015.

52 were promoted in technology, up from 38 in 2015.

Eight were promoted in consumer and commercial banking — the division that houses the bank's online-lending business, Marcus — compared with zero in 2015.

African Art in Motion, Mask of the Cool

We were very interested in the concept of ‘mask of the cool’ mentioned in Robert Farris Thompson’s African Art in Motion. According to Thompson, the mask of the cool is broadly defined as being ‘hot’ on the inside but ‘cool’ on the outside, project a serenity through a calm face.

In 1974, Thompson drew a comparison between the ‘coolness’ demonstrated in West African dance with contemporary Afro-American culture, particularly in a style of walking. Although we could not find an instance of the bopping that he refers to, we found some interesting parallels in more modern Black American dance and culture.

Thompson describes the body as “still played in two patterns, one stable, the other active, part energy and part mind.” We found some videos that demonstrate this art of coolness. The first shows two men doing a more modern form of bopping, where their bodies exude a large amount of energy and motion, while maintaining composure in their faces.

In the second video, the composure extends beyond the face and into the upper body. This video demonstrates a Crip walk dance in which the legs move like a wave while the chest remains almost stationary, echoing the sentiment of separate stable and active parts of the body mentioned by Thompson.

Celebridades plus size que me inspiran

En un mundo en el que los estándares de belleza son muy altos y casi regidos por el peso, talla y calidad muscular es complicado encontrar inspiración real porque en casi todas las referencias no cabemos. Son muy pocos los casos en los que los actores con características plus size logran adueñarse de las pantallas y la televisión. Gracias al cielo en la televisión estadounidense cada vez son más los casos en los que podemos ver actores y actrices de talla grande en películas, tal es el caso de Melissa Mccarthy a quien recientemente vemos en la pantalla grande con películas muy divertidas como «The Heat» en donde comparte créditos con Sandra (mamita) Bullock, en el caso masculino también tenemos a Kevin James que seguro lo ubicas por protagonizar «Paul Blart: Mall Cop», cabe mencionar que en la segunda versión de ésta subió de peso para hacer más jocoso el personaje.

Lamentablemente en México es diferente, nuestro estándar (a pesar de ser el país número 1 en población con obesidad) sigue siendo aspiracional, por eso es complicado que veas a un protagonista con sobrepeso en la televisión mexicana o en teatro o en alguna serie/novela. Y los que llegan a participar siguen siendo motivo de gracia o risas como si el hecho de que seas plus size te convierta en una especie de bufón para siempre.

En esta primera parte quiero mostrarles algunas celebridades (varones) plus size que son dignos de mi admiración y que su estilo bien podría inspirarnos en este discurso sobre la aceptación.

1. Zach Galifianakis, seguro lo ubicas por la exitosa comedia «The Hangover.» En donde muestra a un gordito, amable, inocente e ingenuo pero muy despistado. ¿Qué le admiro? Su prominente panza no es motivo para que ejecute ningún movimiento, ni para que porte cualquier prenda, lo he visto en ropa interior y con la actitud más relajada y segura del mundo.  Además es portador orgullos de una barba desaliñada que lo pone en el top de masculinidad.

2. CeeLo Green es rapero, compositor, productor y ademas es negro (sin ser despectivo) hace algunas temporadas se integro al team de coaches de The Voice y ha logrado destacar por todas las vestimentas coloridas y por su sensibilidad al coachear a sus participantes. ¿Qué le admiro? Es un plus size diferente, es chubby, está gordito de todos lados, piernas, panza, trasero, su valor y seguridad es una característica realmente inspiradora, CeeLo usa cualquier color, lo he visto de rojo, de dorado e incluso de blanco y sigue viéndose IMPECABLE.

3. James Cordeen es actor, cantante, guionista y comediante, recientemente más conocido por su sección Carpool Karaoke en el programa The Late Late Show with James Corden. James no es taaaan gordo, pero es bajito y eso lo hace ver panzoncito. ¿Qué le admiro? Es un excelente actor y eso me impresiona, su singular alegria siempre me inspira, verlo bailar con tal seguridad, quitarse la playera o que no le importe que este justa su ropa realmente es motivador. James rompió un gran paradigma fue la portada de la revista GQ (nombrado el Hombre del año 2015) y mostró su trasero en una de las interiores, ¡sí, con sus pliegues de gordito y todo! Goooey ¡de huevos! (disculpen la expresión).

4. Rag'n'Bone Man es un cantante y compositor británico famoso por el reciente lanzamiento de su album «Human» ha ganado algunos galardones relevantes como el Premio Brit. ¿Qué le admiro? Rag es una excelente representación del «chico rudo« la barba desaliñada, rasurarse la cabeza y lucir este top super top de testosterona lo pone en el límite de la inspiración, de verdad ¿quién se atreve  a decirle algo ofensivo a este dude? Rag porta con gracia y dignidad el estilo plus size, camisas a cuadros, playeras negras con estampados gigantes y algunas veces extravagante con sombreros de color y bufandas de igual.  Cabe mencionar que su album debut está muy bueno, su propuesta es fresca y concisa.

5. Chris Pratt, Sí, él. Y antes de que se me vengan encima todos diciendo que ya no está gordo y que no se qué, déjame decirte que es un ejemplo. Lo incluí porque durante su etapa de gordo nos demostró que se puede llevar con orgullo esa insignia, es esposo de la hermosa Ana Farris. ¿Qué le admiro? Bajo de peso y se puso mamado pero no alardeó que eso fuera lo mejor que le ha pasado, pasó a ser parte de otro target de actores pero algo que realmente le admiro es que no cambió su actitud, sigue siendo el mismo dude divertido, chistoso, alegre y seguro de si mismo.
