How To Choose The Best Smartphone Right Now
1. Android or iPhone? Android phones give you more options in terms of price, size, and new design. However, iPhones offer faster software updates, better games and apps, and better security and privacy. Check out our iPhone vs Android face-to-face.
2. Unlock or Carrier? US Most buyers in the U.S. buy new phones through their wireless carriers. But an unlocked phone gives you the freedom to buy the device without a contract and then bring it to the provider you want to use.
3. Screen Size: If you're looking for a bigger phone, 6 inches and above is a good place to start. The largest phones are 6.5 by 6.8 inches. If you want something that you can use easily with one hand, go with one of the best small phones with a screen under 6 inches.
4. Cameras: Ignore the megapixel count. Instead, look at the camera face-off between the phones to see the photo quality and look for special features like Night Mode to get better quality in low light. Plus, check out our best camera phone roundup.
5. Battery life: Generally, phones with bigger batteries (measured in mAh) offer the longest battery life, but that's not always the case. So we run our battery test.

31 Best Horror TV Shows on Streaming Services
https://ift.tt/35ucgk1
Horror and television have always been a bit of an awkward fit. Whatâs scary and whatâs bingeable sometimes seem mutually exclusive. Horror requires that you suspend your disbelief and the longer it asks of your attention span, the higher the risk that the tension wanes.
Still, in the modern streaming era, there are plenty of horror TV shows that get the spooky job done. Gathered on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and HBO Max are some truly great bingeable options to elevate the heart rate. Here weâve compiled the very best of the best. What follows are the 31 best streaming horror TV shows.Â
American Horror Story
Available on: Netflix, Hulu
Ryan Murphyâs American Horror Story is revolutionary in quite a few ways. Not only did it help usher in a renewed era of anthology storytelling on television, it also was arguably the first successful network television horror show since The X-Files.
Like all anthologies, American Horror Story has its better seasons (season 1 a.k.a. Murder House, season 2 a.k.a. Asylum, season 6 a.k.a. Roanoke) and its worse (season 3 a.k.a. Coven and season 8 a.k.a. Apocalypse). Still, for nine years and counting, American Horror Story has been one of the go-to options for TV horror fans.
Apparitions
Available on: Amazon Prime
When The Exorcist first premiered in 1973, it changed everything for horror. A whole world of demonology and exorcism entered into our collective unconscious to torment the masses. Still, the TV world hasnât done much with exorcism-based horror since that then. BBCâs Apparitions from 2008, however, might be the exception. This is a nifty little horror drama that goes about demons the right way.
Apparitions stars Martin Shaw as Father Jacob Mays. Mays is tasked with examining potential miracles for canonization. But as Mays sets out, he begins to come into contact with dark forces in need of some exorcising. Apparitions is an excellent miniseries that has a shockingly complete perspective on how the Catholic Church operates.
Ash vs Evil Dead
Available on: Netflix
Sam Raimiâs Evil Dead series (consisting of Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, and Army of Darkness) are some of the most deliriously bloody and fun slasher films ever committed to celluloid. Surely, however, a TV series made decades later couldnât possibly bring the same level of thrill, could it?

Ash vs Evil Dead: How Baby-Proof Was Made
By Stephen Harber
Wrong! Starzâs Ash vs Evil Dead is another installment of fantastic comedy horror. Bruce Campbell returns as Evil Dead hero Ash Williams, who has done seemingly little with his life since battling the forces of evil (and dead) 30 years ago. That all changes when the dead walk once again and Ash, and some new friends must pick up the chainsaw once again.
Black Summer
Available on: Netflix
In a zombie television landscape largely dominated by AMCâs The Walking Dead, Syfyâs Z Nation found a nice with a more playful, tongue-in-cheek presentation of the zombie apocalypse. In this spinoff, Black Summer, things get a touch darker.
Jamie King stars as Rose, a mother who is separated from her daughter during the height of a zombie apocalypse. Rose sets out on a mission to recover her and in the process builds a group of like-minded individuals looking for something theyâve lost.
Castle Rock
Available on: Hulu
Stephen King properties have made their way to television before. There have been miniseries for classic King texts like The Stand and âSalemâs Lot and even full series for works like Rose Red and Under the Dome. Still, none of those series has had the audacity to adapt multiple aspects of the Stephen King universe itselfâŠuntil Castle Rock.
Castle Rock takes multiple characters, storylines, and concepts from the vast works of Stephen King and puts them all in Kingâs own Castle Rock, Maine. The first season featured inmates from Shawshank prison, extended family of Jack Torrance, and maybe even a touch of the shine. The show has opened itself up for more storytelling possibilities in season 2, adopting an anthology format and bringing Annie Wilkes into the fold.
Castlevania
Available on: Netflix
Netflix has beefed up its anime offerings in recent years and one of the first IPs they mined to do so was atmospheric Konami videogame series Castlevania. Originally planned as a film, Castlevania makes good use of its serialized format to pick up the horror story from where it begins with 1989 gameCastlevania III: Draculaâs Curse.

And what a story it is. Wallachian lord (and vampire, obvs.) Vlad Dracula Tepes (Graham McTavish) falls into a mighty rage after his wife is wrongly accused of witchcraft and burned at the stake. Vlad summons an army of the dead to declare war on the living of Wallachia. The only people who stand in his path are a ragged band of heroes led by Trevor Belmont (Richard Armitage).
Chambers
Available on: Netflix
Chambers only survived one season at Netflix, proving once again that itâs tough out there for horror television shows. But the one season legacy the show leaves behind is a decently spooky one.
Chambers tells a story that contains a pretty familiar, yet effective horror trope. Sasha Yazzie (Sivan Alyra Rose) receives a much-needed heart transplant from a girl named Becky Lafevre. Soon, Sasha begins to experience troubling visions and begins to unravel a conspiracy that brings her into contact with Beckyâs parents (Uma Thurman and Tony Goldwyn).
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Available on: Netflix
After the Archie comic universe got a gritty reboot in The CWâs Riverdale, it was only a matter of time before Archie cousin comic Sabrina the Teenage Witch got her turn. Thankfully Netflix stepped up to the plate with the Kiernan Shipka starring Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and even more thankfullyâŠitâs gritty as all hell.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 3 Review (Spoiler Free)
By Chris Cummins
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina brings witchcraft back to its absolutely metal satanic origins. Sabrina Spellman (Shipka) is like any teenager at Baxter High. Sheâs concerned about her grades, her social status, and her impending 16th birthday in which she must undergo a dark ritual in which sheâll have to grant her loyalty to the Dark Lord Satan. Such is life for a half-mortal/half-witch.
Dark/Web
Available on: Amazon Prime
For those interested in anthology and serialized horror storytelling, Dark/Web offers the best of both worlds. This Amazon Prime original tells a single spooky tale, spread out over eight largely self-contained âchapters.â
Dark/Web picks up with the disappearance of cyber analyst Molly Solis (Noemi Gonzalez). As her friends investigate what happened to Molly, they begin to uncover some truly dark secrets hidden within the fabric of the Internet. Dark/Web expertly exploits real world fears about the spreading influence of this omniscient communication technology.
The Exorcist
Available on: Hulu
The Exorcist is one of the greatest horror films ever made. The Fox series that bears its name and premise isnât quite as good (few things could ever be) but itâs still an excellent horror story in its own right.
The Exorcist is a two-season long anthology series that follows two different cases of demonic possession. In the first installment, two Catholic priests assist a woman with a possession in her home. In the second, two new priests help a young girl battle evil.
Folklore
Available on: HBO Max
HBOâs 2019 series Folklore is based on a novel concept. HBO Asia has access to some of the best horror storytellers in the East. Why not give them carte blanche to tell the horrifying stories they want to tell in an anthology format?
Folklore features episodes from filmmakers based in Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and South Korea. Each installment is unique to that countryâs sensibilities and also entirely terrifying.Â
Ghost Adventures
Available on: Hulu
Since the turn of the millennium, television has not been lacking for shows involving paranormal investigations. But even within the crowded spooky market, Travel Channelâs Ghost Adventures stands out.

Over its 200-some episodes (not including specials), Ghost Adventures has proven itself to be the gold standard for people who just want to watch some dudes stumble around old properties in night vision.
Haunted
Available on: Netflix
Haunted is a bit of an odd duck among Netflixâs horror offerings. It was introduced for the 2018 Halloween season, just a week before the juggernaut Haunting of Hill House. As such, it got lost in the spooky shuffle. Still, this is a surprisingly effective take on your classic âtell a scary storyâ style TV series.

In Haunted, people tell their real life scary stories. Thatâs it. This is well-trodden ground on long running cable series like Ghost Stories and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Where Haunted differentiates itself is in its shockingly high production values, as witnessed in the ethereal screengrab above. Also, these stories are likeâŠreally scary.
The Haunting of Hill House
Available on: Netflix
Shirley Jacksonâs novel The Haunting of Hill House is considered one of the most important texts in the horror literature canon. Itâs only fitting then that itâs Hill House that Netflix turned to when the time came to make its first big original horror series. Itâs also fitting that they turned to Hush director Mike Flanagan to make it happen.
Flanaganâs version of The Haunting of Hill House is quite different from the novel from which it takes its name. This Haunting is a modern story that follows the Crain family as they try to recover from the trauma they sustained as kids living in the terrifying Hill House. Of course, Hill House is still out there just dying to call them all back home. Netflix is going to keep âThe Hauntingâ going with The Haunting of Bly Manor and presumably more to come after that.
The Haunting of Bly Manor
Available on: Netflix
The consensus is that The Haunting of Bly Manor is significantly less scary than Mike Flanaganâs original Netflix series The Haunting of Hill HouseâŠand that consensus is correct. But there are still plenty of scares to be had in this worthy followup.

How The Haunting of Bly Manor Pays Tribute to 1961âs The Innocents

Bly Manor borrows elements from the works of Henry James, including The Turn of the Screw, to craft another affecting ghost story. Hill Houseâs Victoria Pedretti returns as Dani, a young American woman who takes on a job as a governess to two young children at the titular Bly Manor. Soon Dani and all involved will come to find that Bly Manor holds some serious (weirdly romantic) secrets.
The Living and the Dead
Available on: Amazon Prime
The BBCâs The Living and the Dead is an aesthetically beautiful show. Itâs not entirely dissimilar to a British-ized The Returned. It stars Colin Moran as Nathan Appleby, a psychology who inherits a beautiful, if creepy manor.
Sure, the property is a touch isolated but that doesnât concern Nathan and his wife. It should because what comes next is a bit more Amityville Horror than The Returned.
Lore
Available on: Amazon Prime
Aaron Mahnkeâs history horror podcast Lore has always operated under the theory that truth is stranger (and scarier) than fiction. Thatâs the same philosophy that this Amazon Prime original adaptation adopts.
Both seasons of Lore tell a handful of real life stories that illustrate the origins of some of our worldâs spookiest legends and events. Narration combined with live action recreations present tales of vampirism, grave-robbing, werewolves, and more.
Lovecraft Country
Available on: HBO Max
Classic horror literature is largely dominated by white voices and white characters. HBOâs bold adaptation of the book Lovecraft Country by Matt Ruff, seeks to seamlessly insert some Black voices and characters into the historical horror canon.

How Lovecraft Country Uses Horror to Tell Black Stories
By Nicole Hill
To that end Jonathan Majors and Jurnee Smollett star as Atticus âTicâ Freeman and Letitia âLetiâ Lewis â two Black Chicagoans discovering magic in 1950s America. The plot is structured as a sort-of anthology with Tic, Leti, and their friends and family dealing with the supernatural weekly while also engaged with the machinations of the ancient Braithwhite family. With a deep appreciation of monsters, both real and imagined, Lovecraft Country is worthwhile horror programming.
Monsterland
Available on: Hulu
Since Netflix acquired the rights to Black Mirror back in 2015, the streaming world has been a veritable arms race of sci-fi and horror anthology series. Hulu has already tried its hand at horror anthology with the Blumhouse-produced Into the Dark, and Monsterland represents the latest effort.
Monsterland is based on the short story collection North American Lake Monsters: Stories by Nathan Ballingrud. It consists of eight spooky, unconnected tales and features the acting talents of Kaitlyn Dever, Bill Camp, Kelly Marie Tran, and more. The twist here is that each episode focuses on an urban legend from a different city within the United States. And given how weird this country is, the series wonât be running out of of stories anytime soon.
One Step Beyond
Available on: Amazon Prime
The amazing drama you are about to see is a matter of human record,â runs John Newlandâs introduction to this Twilight Zone-esque series. âThe real people who lived this story, they believe it, they know, they took that one step beyond.
Famously, Newland took one step beyond himself when making âThe Sacred Mushroomâ episode in which he ingested hallucinogenic mushrooms and filmed his reaction. Itâs not available here, but itâs out there in both senses of the phrase.
The Outer Limits
Available on: Hulu
When The Twilight Zone premiered in 1959, it set off a brief little renaissance of anthology horror storytelling on television. The best of these contenders to the Zoneâs throne was probably the sci-fi centric The Outer Limits.

Outer Limits aired from 1963 to 1965 on ABC. In that span it generated 49 spooky episodes, several of which made an impact on pop culture. Alan Moore infamously borrowed the plot of the episode âThe Architects of Fearâ for the ending of Watchmen. The Outer Limits received a Sci-Fi Channel revival in the â90s and is currently poised for another bite at the apple.
The Outsider
Available on: HBO Max
Stephen King is among the most adapted authors of all time. And yet, even after all this time, the King canon is able to produce some surprises. HBOâs miniseries (or series, theyâve not really made that clear) The Outsider, based on a 2018 King novel of the same name and developed for television by The Night Ofâs Richard Price, is one such pleasant surprise.

The Outsider Ending Explained

The genius of this story is how it first presents as a true crime tale, with little league coach Terry Maitland (Jason Bateman) being arrested for the unspeakably violent murder of a local boy. But as Detective Ralph Anderson (Ben Mendelsohn) looks further into the case, he discovers there might be a supernatural force at play. The Outsider deftly delves into themes of belief, skepticism, and family, all the while asking viewers âhow long would it take for you give in and believe the unbelievable?â
The X-Files
Available on: Hulu
The X-Files is quite simply the gold standard for horror on television. Chris Carterâs conspiracy-tinged supernatural masterpiece not only inspired every horror TV show that came after it, but just about every other TV show in general.

The X-Files follows FBI special agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) as they investigate the unusual cases that traditional law enforcement wonât touch. For 11 seasons (and a handful of movies), the show expertly balanced a massive series-long story along with what came to be called âmonster of the weekâ self-contained tales.
Scare Tactics
Available on: Netflix
Scare Tactics is what happens when someone looks at the prank camera show format and thinks âWhat if this but also dangerous and terrifying?â The concept of Scare Tactics is simple: take normal people, put them in elaborate horror movie situations, and film what happens. Awful? Yes. Entertaining? Absolutley!
Shannen Doherty hosted the first incarnation of the show that premiered on Syfy in 2003. Stephen Baldwin took her place in the middle of the showâs second season. Then after a three-year hiatus, Scare Tactics returned with Tracy Morgan at the helm and lasted three more seasons of hilariously cruel pranking.
Stan Against Evil
Available on: Hulu
To parody horror, one needs to love horror. And Stan Against Evil creator Dana Gould really, really, really loves horror. The longtime standup comedian and comedy writer brings his unique humor sensibilities and lifelong appreciation of horror to tell the story of a quaint New Hampshire town that just happens to be built on the cursed site of a massive witch burning.
John C. McGinley stars as the titular Stan, a disgraced former sheriff who opts to pick up the battle against evil after a close call. He teams up with new sheriff Evie Barret (Janet Varney) to defend the town (and sometimes world) from supernatural threats.
Stranger Things
Available on: Netflix
It seems so obvious now but in hindsight there was little buzz about this nostalgic tweenage horror project on Netflix from the relatively unknown Duffer Brothers. Little did we know that the Stev(ph)ens Spielberg and King inspired Stranger Things would be one of Netflixâs biggest hits.

Stranger Things: Elevenâs Journey and the Need of Powers
By David Crow
Stranger Things takes place in the fictional Hawkins, Indiana in the mid-â80s. Hawkins is your typical smal ltown American city. The kids like to ride bikes, play Dungeons and Dragons, and tease one another. Little does everyone know that the mysterious government building on the outskirts of town may have opened a portal to another world â a portal that will usher in multiple seasons worth of monster fighting mayhem.
The Strain
Available on: Hulu
The most novel thing about FXâs vampire horror thriller The Strain is how it equates the ancient fear of vampirism with the more modern, global fear of pandemic. The Strain, produced by Guillermo del Toro Chuck Hogan and based on their novel series opens with a flight landing with all of its passengers mysteriously dead.
As CDC director Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll) steps in to investigate, he discovers that there might be something more sinisterâŠand ancient afoot than a simple virus. The Strain lasted for four mostly decent seasons on FX and if nothing else helped re-embrace the vampire as a monster and not some sort of noble antihero.
The Terror
Available on: Hulu
Based on a 2007 book of the same name by Dan Simmons, The Terror season 1 tells a fictionalized account of Captain Sir John Franklinâs expedition to the arctic in 1845. In real life, the doomed men likely got lost and succumbed to the cold but the show asks âwhat if there was something more sinister than low temperatures lurking about?â
The Terror features a cast impressively full of âhey itâs that guyâ guys like Jared Harris, CiarĂĄn Hindis, and Tobias Menzes. It deftly turned itself into an anthology with the second season The Terror: Infamy that tells a ghost story within the setting of a Japanese interment camp in World War II.
The Twilight Zone
Available on: Hulu
The Twilight Zone is an all-time television classic for good reason. Join Rod Serling each episode for a new tale of mystery, horror and woe.
Whatever you do, however, do NOT drop your glasses.
Unsolved Mysteries
Available on: Netflix
Any reboot of continuation of the classic â80s/â90s true crime series Unsolved Mysteries just needs one element to be considered authentic: that music. Thankfully, this modern iteration on Netflix maintains a version of the originalâs haunting theme. Beyond that crucial aspect, Unsolved Mysteries honors the original by continuing the formula to great success.

Unsolved Mysteries Volume 2 Review: Reboot Fits a Flatfoot More Than a Bigfoot
By Tony Sokol
Unsolved Mysteries remains largely a true crime enterprise. The show covers unexplained disappearances, murders, and crimes. But it also spends plenty of time with the truly unexplained: the paranormal. This reboot has covered UFOs and some tsunami ghosts. That, combined with the atmospheric music, makes this a suitably spooky watch.
The Veil
Available on: Amazon Prime
1958âs The Veil consists of dramatizations of strange tales, the majority of which also feature host Boris Karloff in the cast. At storyâs end, our host is back to offer a conclusion to that particular story of âthe world beyond our understanding.â
Not that 1950s TV audiences would have known about it, because The Veil wasnât broadcast. Footage from its episodes appeared in some late sixties TV movies, and a DVD release followed in the 1990s, but its cancellation prior to airing have made it a cult find.

Week 33, 2020
Microsoftâs Surface Duo arrives on September 10th for $1,399
The Verge - August 12, 2020 - 5 min
Foldables are the future of smartphones, whether it's a normal-sized phone that unfolds into a tablet, like the Samsung Z Fold 2, or a normal-sized phone that folds to become smaller in your pocket, like the Samsung Z Flip.
However, the Surface Duo is a little different. It's not a foldable screen, but two screens joined by a hinge and some software glue.
As positive things, its multitasking story seems easier to grasp than the one on iPadOS, and at 4.8mm it's the thinnest smartphone in the market (when unfolded).
You probably only want to buy it if:
If you've been waiting for a Courier successor for the past 10 years.
You replace your Surface every generation.
You're still clinging to the latest Nokia Lumia Windows Phone released.
Apple just kicked Fortnite off the App Store

Force Apple and Google to remove your app from the stores.
Release parody video of Apple's famous 1984 spot.
Turn basically every teen in the world against Apple and Google.
Sue Apple and Google.

Wireless Charging Is a Disaster Waiting to Happen
OneZero - August 5, 2020 - 9 min
Wireless charging is really inefficient. At the micro level, it's not a big financial issue in terms of electricity bill or environmental impact, but at the macro level:
If all of a sudden, the 3 billion[-plus] smartphones that are in use, if all of them take 50% more power to charge, that adds up to a big amount. So itâs a society-wide issue, not a personal issue.

Havalon Piranta-Z Folding Knife 2020 Review
Today we will review Havalon's Piranta-Z folding knife. Havalon is an American company that has a long history of making the highest quality scalpel blades in the world. They eventually made the decision to develop easy-to-carry, highly functional pocket knives for specialized applications that hunters and fishermen require. Check Price of Havalon Piranta-Z on Amazon
First impressions
Havalon's Piranta-Z folding knife is small, very light and the overall construction of the folding knife feels solid. The knife has a simple but good looking design. The closed length of the knife is 4.5 Inches and with the blade out 7. 25". Including the blade the Piranta-Z folding knife weighs 6.4 ounces. The Piranta Z comes with a nylon holster and 12 additional Quick-Change "easy-on, easy-off" #60XT stainless steel replacement blades.
Handle
The Piranta-Z folding knife has a long blaze orange handle is made from a military-grade Zytel polymer, which is a type tough of high-density plastic. It has black rubber anti-slip inlays that provide additional grip. The relatively long, and wide, ergonomic handle is comfortable to hold and I had no problem losing grip during wet circumstances. The back of the handle has an open-ended design for easy cleaning and the handle features a lanyard hole. It's a good handle and I really have no complaints about the look and feel of it. The Piranta-Z folding knife has an about 1/2" thick solid liner lock, which is a locking style mechanism often used in many folding knives. The thumb studs are there for fast one-handed opening. It works perfectly. The handle also has a thin metal pocket clip so you can hang it to your belt.
Blade
The razor-sharp drop point style blades that come with the Piranta-z folding knife have a length of 2. 75" and they are 0.1" thin, which is really thin and thus they bend easily. Don't apply to much force on the blades because they can snap easily under to much pressure. They are definitely not made for prying things open! Â Because they are so extremely sharp, very little pressure is needed for it to do its job. Saying this blade is razor-sharp is an understatement. The 60XT stainless steel is surgically sharp, meaning it is extremely sharp and thus highly efficient for skinning and field dressing. It is prone to rust so take good care of blades and store them properly.

Replacing blades The only bad thing is you have to use pliers to change blades, but changing a blade it is still quite easy to do. To remove the blade lift the end of the blade closest to the handle with your index finger while pulling the top of the blade out with pliers(you definitely do not want to use your other hand instead of the pliers to avoid injury!). To replace a blade simply reverse the process and push the blade down until it is fully inserted. You can buy 100 Piranta #60XT replacement blades here! Piranta blade remover To make blade removal even easier Havalon created a blade remover, which has made changing the blade on your Havalon Piranta easier than ever before. The remover snaps around the blade, and the blade then easily pulls off. You can buy a Havalon blade remover package here. A package includes 6 Blade removers. Different blade types One of the biggest pluses of the Piranta-z folding knife is that it fits all Piranta blades. This makes this pocket knife a versatyle one. I like the thicker carbon steel #22 blades(12-pack), that you can buy here. If you prefer Stainless steel, #70A are quite nice (12-pack), you can buy them here.
Casing
The Piranta-z folding knife comes with a simple but practical nylon holster that keeps the knife safe and secure. It has a belt loop and the 12 replaceable blades the Piranta-Z comes with are individually packaged in the holster. The holster is not of the highest build quality and the material is not super durable but it functions well and it is decent enough considering the price the Piranta-Z comes for.
Performance
For faster, easier skinning and field dressing of just about any kind of wild game, big or small. It definitely doesn't take the place of a quality fixed blade, but its performance of the Havalon-Z in the field is excellent! The razor-sharp thin blade is highly effective for skinning and gutting but if you're boning out meat make sure not to touch the bone too much as the blades dull quickly. When using the knife on a wet stone, the metal bar that holds the blade in place prevents sharpening. The blades cannot be sharpened on a traditional wet stone using traditional techniques. The Piranta-z folding knife is perfect if you don't want to stop skinning to sharpen your knife when the skin is still at the right temperature. Just change the blade and continue, as mentioned before pay attention to any bones, because it will quickly become boring if you are not careful. It is great for caping though. The Piranta-z folding knife is not fit for any heavy-duty bushcraft or wood processing work but the Piranta-Z is a handy little camp knife for some finer choirs. Because of its lightweight is also perfect for back backers that plan long trips.
Specifications
Pros & cons
ProsFits all Piranta style bladesGreat for skinningStrong military-grade polymer handleGood price/quality ratioConsblades dull relatively quick
Conclusion
Havalon did a fine job designing the Piranta-Z. The liner lock mechanism works flawlessly, the 60XT stainless steel blades really are extremely sharp and thus ideal for skinning and other field-dressing tasks. The fact that you can buy different types of blades makes it one of the most versatile skinner/folding knives out there. Because of its lightweight it is a perfect knife for campers and backpackers for small choirs. Overall I am very happy with my Piranta-Z and for the relatively cheap price it comes it is one of my best purchases in a while. The Piranta-Z Folding Knife is a great addition to any hunters or fishers arsenal! LG phones Review
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e6e7740bbd92f44d0c4d890754d1cf7f/f94224106dce8a22-50/s540x810/262a8dda0525aae82f9009ed083bd32bf2037ffe.jpg)
Fierce competition in the consumer electronics segment forces companies to constantly experiment. Of course, the modern smartphone market is no exception. In recent years, many segment leaders have been actively expanding their assortment, experimenting in search of the best price / quality ratio. As known, this parameter significantly affects the choice of the optimal phone. For example, many Best Sellers have only average specs, but a good price / quality ratio has ensured them marketing success. As a result, some companies annually released a large number of models with almost identical specs. For example, in 2014 Samsung introduced 56 new models, and LG - 41 new smartphones. But the cost of any product consists of the costs of development and design, production, logistics, advertising, etc. Further support also requires additional costs for updating the operating system, production of components for repair, etc. As a result, a large number of models almost always reduce profits due to rising costs. Therefore, many companies, including, for example, Apple and Google, prefer to limit their lineup to several models per year. Having recorded operating losses in 2016 and 2017, LG management also decided to reduce the range of new phones to reasonable sufficiency. At CES 2018, LG Electronics vice chairman Cho Sung-jin voiced this decision, answering a question about the release date of the next LG flagship. Indeed, in 2019, the company significantly reduced the number of new models, compensating for it with a significant improvement in the presented several models.
LG phones
Today, more than 600 companies produce smartphones. However, almost 80% of the world market belongs to ten major manufacturers, including South Korean Samsung (19%) and LG (3%), American Apple (12%), Finnish Nokia (1%) and Chinese Huawei (13%, including Honor), Xiaomi (9%), Oppo (9%), Vivo (8%), Lenovo (3%, including Motorola), Tecno (1%). As known, LG Electronics dominates the segment of OLED TVs. Naturally, the company also produces OLED displays for smartphones, using them in its models. However, some LG phones, including the flagship 2018 G7 ThinQ, use the IPS matrix without screen flicker due to the low-frequency PWM. Some ophthalmologists note the negative impact of this effect in terms of eye strain. On the other hand, this factor depends on reasonable sufficiency. Short-term flickering of an OLED screen is unlikely to harm vision, but after a few hours, your eyes will get tired from any screen. Despite the production of 5,000 matrices per day, the share of LG displays is negligible compared to Samsung, which stably dominates in this segment. However, LG Display sells OLED screens to Apple. In addition, the company is jointly developing OLED displays with Lufthansa Technik for use in aircraft. Modern LG models use Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets, UFS memory and LG UX UI. In autumn 2019, the company introduced the latest Android 10-based UX 9.0 UI. According to some experts, it is very similar to the Samsung One UI interface. But maybe this is due to the similarity of aesthetic tastes of South Korean designers. The company has already released beta versions with an upgrade to Android 10 for the LG G8 ThinQ and V50 ThinQ. Today the company offers flagship G and V series and a wide range of mid-budget Q and K models.
LG G7 ThinQ
The LG G7 ThinQ is the flagship of 2018.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ccc24a72c2015c3ed5c1894d5df72e51/f94224106dce8a22-bd/s540x810/013b0b9db154a1ab973d511c74085308e36b3f57.jpg)
The phone uses an ultra-bright (up to 1000 nits) 6.1 - inch IPS display with 3120 x 1440 resolution (564 ppi), providing extended DCI-P3 color gamut and HDR10 support. In addition, the model has an 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 (4 Kryo 385 Gold (Cortex-A75) with a frequency of 2.8 GHz for CPU intensive tasks and energy-efficient 4 Kryo 385 Silver (Cortex-A55) with a frequency of 1.8 GHz ), RAM 6 GB, dual 16-megapixel camera (f/1.6 + f/1.9) and supports 2 SIM cards. The company supplies a phone with Android 8.1. DTS-X technology provides excellent 3D stereo sound. In addition, its protection complies with Militare Standard 810G + IP68. Unfortunately, the battery capacity is only 3000 mAh.
LG V40 ThinQ
The LG V40 ThinQ became the second flagship of 2018.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/9a4e092949221aa8e9e0ed54b2d0b5dc/f94224106dce8a22-b3/s540x810/49e293d959e4164c03398b1754316b5b53d9a709.jpg)
The V40 uses a 6.4-inch P-OLED panel with 3120 x 1440 resolution (537 ppi). Traditionally for this technology, the maximum brightness does not exceed 504 nits, but the minimum is only 3 nits, providing excellent contrast. Like the G7, the model uses the 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. Of course, the phone supports Dolby Vision, Always-on display and HDR10. ESS Technology's Saber ES9218PC DAC, resonant Boombox camera, DTS: X 3D Surround Sound for 7.1 channels, and a voice recorder with audio support in FLAC format provide traditionally superior sound quality. Of course, five cameras have become its main advantage. V40 uses a three-module main camera.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/32f0ee6ca71189b43cc48ba175932513/f94224106dce8a22-30/s540x810/f180620390776c682c12d5f2070802a6a37d6924.jpg)
The aperture of the 12-megapixel optics sensor with large pixels reaches f/1.5. In addition, it has optical image stabilization. The second ultra-wide-angle module uses a 16-megapixel sensor with an aperture of f/1.9. The third 12-megapixel module with f/2.4 aperture has optical stabilization, phase autofocus and 2x optical zoom. Maybe this set is inferior to the top camera phones, including Huawei P20, Mate 20 Pro, Google Pixel 3 or Samsung Galaxy Note 9. But in general, the quality of shooting corresponds to a very high level. Moreover, the phone supports recording 4K video at 60 fps. Unfortunately, optical stabilization does not support this mode. In addition, the phone uses 8-megapixel standard module and 5-megapixel module with wide-angle optics for selfie.
LG G7 Fit
The LG G7 Fit was introduced at CES 2019. In fact, it has become the mid-budget version of the LG G7 ThinQ.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/1ab5891b344af1146fc4b72c6ecbfa01/f94224106dce8a22-11/s540x810/f48fef032f05c1a06937ccae9afb92c6332ebc6d.jpg)
The phone uses a 6.1 - inch IPS (LTPS LCD) display with 3120 x 1440 resolution (QHD+) and a pixel density of 563 ppi. The model runs on Google Android 8.1. The main differences from the G7 include the use of the 4-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset (2016), the main camera with only one module and the lack of wireless charging. In addition, the phone provides video recording of only 2160 x 30fps (G7 - 2160 x 60fps), and the widest aperture is only f/2.20 (G7 - f/1.9 & f/1.6). However, Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 demonstrates excellent performance, gaining 170,000 points in AnTuTu Benchmark. In addition, the G7 Fit protection complies with the MIL-STD810G standard and IP68, model has Bluetooth 5, NFC chip and high-speed memory. Boombox technology provides great sound. Unfortunately, battery capacity is only 3000 mAh, which provides about 8 hours of video playback at maximum brightness. Normal games drain the battery in about 6 hours, complex games in 4 hours. Despite the Fast Charge inscription on the network adapter, the battery lasts 1 hour 30 minutes. Today, this model competes with ASUS Zenfone 5Z, Huawei P20, Honor 10 and Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018).
V50 ThinQ 5G
At MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2019, the company introduced its first 5G model.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/003009fc5509387f228cbfc72162ae22/f94224106dce8a22-6f/s540x810/6293effdebac467d84e9edafb5586250551ab5d5.jpg)
Instead of folding models, LG offered a case with a built-in 6.2-inch display, which is connected via POGO-contacts on the rear panel.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/7b375c018ea518e6a84fb33525c01d5b/f94224106dce8a22-63/s540x810/b59f4a10d4417169c3cb0e4bad4aee3a24536a02.jpg)
Probably, today the assessment of the feasibility of a second screen or a folding display is still premature. But next year, consumers will already be able to appreciate this trend. The model uses a 6.4-inch OLED display with QHD+ resolution (537 ppi), Snapdragon 855 chipset, 6GB RAM, three-module main camera (16 MP (f/1.9) + 12 MP (F/1.5) + 12 MP (f/2.4 ) and front 8 MP + 5 MP. The battery capacity reaches 4000 mAh.The phone runs on Android 9.0 Pie, meets the MIL-STD 810G standard, and supports Dolby Vision, Always-on display and HDR10.
G8 and G8s ThinQ
In addition to the V50, at the MWC 2019 the company also introduced the G8 and G8s ThinQ.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/c1a4611dfb67844521d5f9150319d514/f94224106dce8a22-5a/s540x810/26b6cf87aa75f1126e1219df001bce1257061684.jpg)
In fact, the G8s is a slightly simplified version of the G8. A list of minor differences include displays, battery capacity and camera resolution. Models have innovative OLED displays that support Crystal Sound technology, which uses the screen as a resonating surface for sound output.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/2e7ed478dee603a283dcab43fdd93b0c/f94224106dce8a22-62/s540x810/e9ac9d12e4305c590695ce76ffd0a93748028a2d.jpg)
The G8 uses a 6.1-inch OLED FullVision (18: 9) screen with a 3120 Ă 1440 resolution (564 ppi), the main camera (16 MP (f/1.9) + 12 MP (f/1.5) + 12 MP (f/2.4 )) and the front 8 MP + Z Camera (ToF). Its battery capacity is 3500 mAh. G8s is equipped with a 6.2-inch OLED FullVision (18: 9) screen with 2248 x 1080 resolution, the main camera (13 MP + 12 MP + 12 MP) and a front 8 MP + Z Camera (ToF). Its battery capacity reaches 3550 mAh. Both models work under Android 9.0 Pie, use Snapdragon 855, 6GB RAM and 64/128GB. Front 3D-sensors with Time-of-Flight (ToF) technology provide Face Unlock and gesture control. Today, the Air Motion option provides only receiving incoming calls, volume control and screenshot. Apparently, in the future its capabilities will expand. In addition, the models have all the traditional flagship options, including a fingerprint scanner, Hand ID, protection against water and dust (IP68), level of protection against external influences (MIL-STD 810G), 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC , stereo speakers and boombox speaker.
Conclusion
In general, high reliability, innovative displays, great technical service, excellent sound quality and high-quality cameras ensure the high competitiveness of LG smartphones, allowing them to be among the leaders in the segment. In addition, the company's pronounced innovative orientation creates excellent prospects for future LG smartphones. As known, the company has already announced for 2020 new models under the names G10, G20, G30 and G40. This video offers concept and trailer with specs, features, price and release date of the new revolutionary mobile phone LG V60 ThinQ 5G (2020). Read the full article

The Note20, bean-shaped earbuds, and all the other products Samsung just announced
From left to right, the new earbuds, smartwatch, Note20, and S7 tablet. (Samsung/)
Samsung announced a slew of new phones, wearables, and tablets in an event streamed from South Korea this morning. The presentation, called Unpacked, included plenty of talk about the new normal that the coronavirus pandemic has led to, and featured video of remote Samsung fans applauding in the background. In brief, it was a typical tech product unveiling during strange times.
A bunch of latest-edition products headlined the show: next-gen Galaxy Note handsets, fresh tablets, a smartwatch with health-monitoring abilities, shiny kidney-bean shaped earbuds, and a brand-new foldable. The company also made a big deal about their latest trending color, âmystic bronze.â
Hereâs the rundown.
Galaxy Note20 and Note20 Ultra
The eventâs headliners were two smartphone additions to the companyâs Note line. The Note devices are different from most other mainstream handsets in that they feature a stylus for drawing or taking notes on the screen. That gizmo is called the S Pen, and it slides into a slot on the phone. Samsung says theyâve reduced the latencyâthe delay between drawing a line and when it appears on the screenâto a matter of 9 milliseconds, so users can hopefully get their thoughts down smoothly.
Last yearâs Note was called the Note10, but the new model will jump to 20 to match the Galaxy S20, which was revealed back in February.
The new Note20 and Note20 Ultra boast screens that are 6.7 and 6.9 inches across, respectively. Their refresh rate is a very fast 120 hertz (that means the screen can refresh 120 per second), leading to what Samsung boasts is âbuttery smoothness.â
The Note phones, which are a favorite for gamers, will now integrate with some Xbox games. Clip the phone onto an Xbox controller, and suddenly it becomes a portable gaming station.
Fair warning, these are expensive flagship devices: The Note20 with 5G will cost $999, and Note20 Ultra with 5G will go for $1,299. Theyâre available on August 21 but can be preordered starting tomorrow.
Galaxy Buds Live
Most visually striking are Samsungâs new wireless earbuds, which come in a clamshell-like case that opens like a ring box. Theyâre shiny, shaped like sleek kidney beans or polished pebbles, and made to fit in a personâs ears without any sticks protruding out like Appleâs AirPods. The company says that the buds can play for six hours on a charge. Like other products in the category wireless earbud category, the case doubles as a power bank. The headphones boast three mics and a voice-pickup unitâand they also have active noise cancelling. Theyâll start at $169 and will be available on August 6.
The Galaxy Buds Live (Samsung/)
Galaxy Watch3
Samsung also unveiled a new version of their smartwatch, which comes either 41mm or 45mm in size. Like Apple, Samsung is focusing on the health-monitoring features of this wearable. It can take blood pressure (they recommend calibrating it with a real blood pressure device), track blood-oxygen levels, and record an electrocardiogram, or ECG. (Thatâs a feature that Apple added to its watch back in 2018.) But as is the case with most wearables from tech companies that offer biometrics, itâs wise to take the readings with a grain of salt and not substitute them for real medical checkups. The company notes that the blood pressure and ECG metrics will only work for people using them in South Korea right now.
The two watches start at $399 or $429 (for the versions without an LTE connection) and will be available on August 6 as well.
The Tab S7 and S7+
The company also debuted two new tablets: the Tab S7 and S7+. The bigger of the two, the S7+, is 12.4 inches across. Like the Note20, these tablets can be used with a stylus, which in this case clips onto the outside, and also have a 120 Hz screen-refresh rate. A 5G version is available for both for $200 more than a Wi-Fi-only version.
The smaller Tab S7 with 5G will cost $849, and the Tab S7+ with 5G will be priced at $1,049. Theyâll be available this autumn, Samsung says.
The Galaxy Fold2 in mystic bronze. (Samsung /)
Galaxy Z Fold2
Last and hopefully not creased comes the latest in Samsungâs folding touch-screen phones. The Fold2 opens like a book, like the previous-gen Fold product. (They also make a folding flip phone.) The screen on the front of the new Fold2 is 6.2 inches diagonally. Cracking the device open reveals a second 7.6-inch screen inside. The company has a rocky history with foldablesâmaking a screen that can bend shut without cracking is tricky, and the results tend to be expensive. Weâll have to wait to see what the reviewers think of this one in the fall; the company says that further info will be announced next month.

3/31/20 Devo: Not a Shelved-God
Hey Everyone!
Hope you are safe and aren't going insane being stuck at home.
Sorry for this late posting, I usually try to post my devos on Monday but these past few weeks have been sort of hectic and covid-19 is flipping everything around as I try to figure out where and what's happening so please bear with me.
Take some time now to pray and give God your distractions and deep desires of your heart. Whatever's on your mind, just set it aside for now and let God change you from within.
Psalm 1:2-3 English Standard Version (ESV)
2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, Â Â and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree   planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season,   and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
This title may have intrigued you before you decided to read this devo: "Not a Shelved-God". I'll get to why I named this in a little bit but here's the breakdown of this passage:
What does it say and what does it mean?
In verse 1, which I didn't include, it says, "Blessed is the man that doesn't walk in the counsel of the wicked...etc." and then verse 2 starts with BUT. If you dissect this passage as a whole, we can see that God is saying "blessed is the man that doesn't do x,y, and z, BUT blessed is that man who
delights
in the law of the Lord. This blessed man meditates on it day and night."
QUICK SUMMARY:God blesses the man that 1) delights in the law and 2) medidates on it day and night (with consistency, daily and constantly, without ceasing)
This blessed man also avoids wicked counsel and foolish sinners and does not associate with the scoffers. I will include that for now, but in this devo I will focus on what we need to be DOING and not what we should be AVOIDING, so maybe I'll save verse 1 and that topic for a different devo.
Verse 3 says this "he" (who is the blessed man) is like a tree planted by streams of water which yields its fruits in its season. So, who is who and what is what?
1.) the "he" is compared to this "tree". "He" is the subject found in verse 1      2.) the streams of water is God himself, who is the supply of the trees growth   3.) The fruit and leaves refer to the growth of the believer and follower of God
Now what is verse 3 saying? When we (the subject, in this case referred to as "he" who is compared to the tree) are acting like a tree that is planted near a stream of water, we bear fruit in its season and bear leaves that don't wither. Then it ends saying that in all that "he" does, "he" prospers.
What does this mean for me?
This "he" that I keep putting in quotation marks is what we as disciples of Christ COULD be like. We don't become prosperous in our works, we don't grow in the Lord, and we don't bear fruit personally and in ministry by lying around, being lazy and expectant that God shows up.
In fact, I'm giong to take it further: you don't even grow necessarily by going to church, going to Bible study, or even reading the Bible. Anyone can go to these events or study the Bible on their own. What are we going to do about it? And what's the source of our growth?
Notice verse 2. It says DELIGHT. And that man that delights in His law bears fruit. Here's the breakdown of the application in a numbered list. We can see the genuine transformation of a Jesus-loving and God-fearing Christ follower here: Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 1.) He LOVES the Lord's law and His word. How do we love the law? Here's the answer found in Psalms: Think about a passionate desire, all-consuming love for, ever fervent, urgent filled, full and complete obssession of what God says and obedience to it. It's three fold: 1. We must LOVE the law (trust what it says, trust it's the word of God, trust its authority) which then propels us to the next... 2. We must study, meditate, dissect, pray over, learn, and crave the law of God and His word DAILY, constantly, with disciplined repetition (hence day and night). We love the law therefore we meditate on it always. But that's not enough. Because we love God, then we love His word. And when we love His word, it then propels us finally to... 3. Live out His word. We read what His word says, study it in context, study it effectively, take notes from Bible text commentaries given by preachers and teachers of sound doctrine, and ask the Holy Spirit to illuminate what God wants to say to us in how to live. Then, we simply live it. When we savor Christ and savor God's word, we are so excited to put it into practice. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
2.) Now that we have this three-fold plan, God promises this to us: we are blessed by Him when we act on it. How? Let's look at the simile the Psalmist uses in verse 3. We are like this tree planted by streams of water. PLANTED. We are grounded in the source. What tree grows by planting itself next to an oil rig or frigid ice and snow? It will wither. It will die. It does not prosper or grow or bear any fruit in any season. Only God, who is the streams of living water and living life, bears fruit in us. Thus, there are no means of growth other than God Himself who is the streams of water next to us. We know we love God and we know that we genuinely KNOW God if we obey Him (1 John 5:3). When we obey Him and heed His call for a blameless and righteous life, He will abide in us (1 John 2:6). So, obey the Lord and abide in Him and He will abide in us. Therefore, if we live according to His love and walk the way Jesus walked, He will bear in us fruit and leaves that don't wither as verse 3 says. So, to sum up, how do we practically live out verse 3? Abide in God. This could be through humbled prayers, intense studying of His word, asking God for His Spirit throughout the day, praying with fellow believers, etc. Always be filled and think about things that are true, things that are noble, just, pure, lovely, commendable, anything worthy of praise, and He will bear the fruit He wants to bear in us.
Finally, what do I mean by a shelved-God? Often times we store our books in shelves. We pull it out, read it for enjoyment, then put it back in once we're done. This is not how we ought to treat the precious Word of God. Psalms 1 clearly gives it to us straight: blessed is that man or woman that delights in God's word, studies it days and night, and abides in God. So I want to encourage two types of people here: 1. Those who don't read God's word or 2. those who read it, enjoy it for a little, and store it back into their shelf.
For those who haven't spent enough time in the Bible, I'd encourage you to reread Psalms 1:2-3 and everything I just mentioned. Take time to review these simple steps and actually put it into practice. Tomorrow morning, wake up, shut your phone off, and go to the Word and spend 30 min, an hour, 3 hours, however long you want, studying it. After you shower and are ready to go to bed, turn off your phone. Close Youtube, close Hulu or Netflix, turn off the gaming systems. Take 30 mins, an hour, 3 hours, etc. and meditate on His word. God promises, not I, that He will bear fruit in you if you humbly and excitedly delight in His law and His word. Then, pray that you will live it out once you read it! Don't let God stay inside your shelf.
For those who do spend time in His word but don't seem to live it out or feel it's dry, you may be storing God in your shelf as well. God can't be contained. He isn't limited. He isn't confined to time and physical space. He's omnipresent. He knows every bone in all 7.8 billion people on this earth. He knows every structure and every back bone of every building that exists. He deeply knows and understands the deepest complex of every tree, every piece of grass, every wave, every particle of air, every grain of sand, every animal, every ray of light, every cloud, every paved road, every computer system, every phone, every camera, every hair on your body, the list goes on and on. He made you. He made everything on this earth. He is fully, completely, wholly and totally sovereign over every moment and every place and every being. This is the God your'e reading about in the Bible. I'm often this person that reads His word and can "shelf" God again. How dare we try to confine Him, how foolish and silly we are to limit God to 30 min. a day and forget Him when we leave the room. He was, is and is to come. If He is that God, and He really encaptures all I just mentioned (AND MORE!) then let's reevaluate our practice. If this is you and you feel "dry" moments in God, be reminded of these truths. The next time you have your quiet time, pray this: Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
"God, you're perfectly holy, full of justice, filled with righteousness, and abound in love and in grace and in gentleness and in kindness. With my quiet times recently, I have been reading your Word and keeping you only in these quiet times but go back into my normal life. I don't "bring" you and your teaching with me or keep it in my thoughts when in fact Lord, I need to connect with you every moment of my life, even after my devotions. You are not confined to my bedroom or whereever I read your word. You are in the deepest darkest valleys, you hold the brightest days in your hand, and you are intimately working in all parts of this earth. God I want to love your Word and I want to live it out fully. Would you so graciously fill me with your Holy Spirit now and throughout today, so that with every action and every thought and with every word and deed, I would be reminded to glorify you in these things. Be with me now Lord, but also continue to remind me that you are still with me throughout the rest of my days. May I never stop seeking you or cease worshipping you in every moment of my life. Amen."
This is a long devo, so I'll just end here. Don't let the Bible just sit in your shelf. Don't just be reminded of God when you're in your room reading His word. He is with you now and until the end of the ages and forever. Dip into Him and His word. Don't box Him in. Ask to bear the fruit as a tree that sits next to those glorious streams of water.
Reflect on this, and pray to close,
Moses  Â

Motorola Razr vs. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip
Home
News
2020 has started with a bang as a pair of clamshell foldables have hit the market nearly simultaneously to duel over which is the better device. In one corner, the throwback Motorola Razr, and in the other, the surprise Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.
Typically, our versus pieces pick apart very similar phones to reveal granular but crucial differences. With the Razr and Z Flip, those differences are far more apparent. In general, the Z Flip has higher specs and a sharper display, while the Razr has a more svelte, distinct look.
Whatâs this mean? That the clamshell foldable smartphone is still very much in its infancy, and both of these particular devices were first to market â and were built in different labs that didnât inform each otherâs design. So while we might feel more strongly about one over the other, theyâre distinct approaches to the challenge of constructing a typical smartphone that can fold in half.
So without further pontificating, hereâs exactly how the Motorola Razr and Samsung Z Flip differ, section by section.
Motorola Razr vs. Samsung Z Flip price analysis
The Motorola Razr was revealed in November 2019, and despite delays due to supply issues, became the first foldable to hit the market when it launched on February 6, 2020 in the US. The Samsung Z Flip very quickly followed, with an introduction at Samsung Unpacked on February 11, 2020 and a release on February 14.
By simple price comparison, the Razr costs more at $1,499 (around ÂŁ1,350, AU$2699) than the Z Flip, which retails for $1,380 / ÂŁ1,300 (around AU$2,050). For phones with little if any bonus functionality, this is a steep pricetag. Itâs not too far away from the Samsung Galaxy Fold, which $1,980 / ÂŁ1,900 / AU$2,900
Thatâs not the whole story: the Razr is available exclusively from carriers in the US and UK (Verizon and EE, respectively), while it will be available in Australia on February 24 from JB HiFi and Telstra.Â
The Samsung Z Flip enjoyed a wider US release on AT&T and Sprint as well as retailers like Best Buy and Samsungâs website,Â

Motorola Razr vs. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip design
The similarities between both devices â clamshell foldables with an interior display about the size of a typical smartphone â belie their very real differences, in both design and use.Â
Letâs start with the obvious. Yes, both phones fold closed into a footprint about half the size of your typical smartphone, making them easier to fit in small pockets. That makes them thicker, though the Razr is the thinner of the two.
Thatâs because Motorola opted to revive the original Razr v3âs design: a sleek phone with a shorter top end that folds into the scalloped âchinâ at the bottom. Itâs definitely a throwback look, and while its spring-loaded hinges let it snap open and closed, thereâs too much tension to keep the phone open at any other angle.
Not so with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. This phone can stay open at pretty much any angle, and thereâs even additional functionality when used in this way, essentially splitting the display into two parts for, say, hands-free selfies.
Thatâs representative of their user experience philosophies. The Razr is meant to be used open or closed, with a Quick Look mini screen for selfies and checking time or notifications. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip can be used at a variety of angles, so its exterior display is very small, mostly used for time and basic media controls â though it will preview your closed-phone selfies.
The last big thing to point out: the Razr is more compact, but it also lacks a SIM/microSD slot, meaning youâre stuck with the included 128GB of storage. The Samsung Z Flip has a SIM slot but, again, no microSD slot.
As far as fingerprint sensors, the Razrâs chin-mounted scanner is erratic and only really registers if the fingerâs exactly upright. The Z Flipâs side-mounted sensor located in the power button, imported wholesale from the Samsung Galaxy S10e, feels more forgiving in reading fingerprints,

Motorola Razr vs. Samsung Z Flip display
Another contentious battleground for foldables is, well, their foldable display. As clamshell devices, both the Razr and Z Flip have interior screens that unfold into lengths comparable to a standard smartphone display. Itâs their material that makes a difference.
The Razr is a plastic 6.2-inch P-OLED display, much like that found on the Samsung Galaxy Fold. Itâs thin, and you can feel the hinge and phone surfaces underneath when running a finger over it. It operates just like a display on any other smartphone, though its width results in a narrow 2,142 x 876 pixel resolution, which we found is so slim that video was capped at 720p on YouTube.
The Z Flip has a larger 6.7-inch AMOLED display â and as Samsung claims, itâs made of an ultra-thin flexible glass, which is a development that phonemakers have been chasing to produce a superior foldable device. But that claim is in question, given that teardowns like those by JerryRigEverything have suffered grooves and scratches from duller materials much like a plastic display.

Durability is also a question for the Razr. In order to fold flat, it has a unique design that tucks the display into the hinge. After some time and a few folds, audible creaks emit every time the device is popped open. Itâs not exactly an indicator of quality, but it is worrisome â and something the Z Flip doesnât do.
You will pay a bit of a price for the privilege to fold: both phones have different protective measures around their main displays that get in the way of the interface. The Razrâs thick chin makes it a bit annoying to access any bottom-mounted navigation options, while the  Z Flipâs thick bumper plastic (first implemented in the revised Galaxy Fold to stop users from peeling off the screen protector) actually gets in the way of buttons or the navigation bar.
Finally, thereâs the front screens. When folded up, both devices have small-to-tiny glass displays for checking the time, seeing notifications, and previewing selfies. The Razr has a much bigger 2.7-inch (600 x 800) screen, which works well enough, while the Z Flipâs 1.1-inch (300 x 112) screen is barely enough to track time â though you can use it to preview a selfie if you donât mind squinting.

Motorola Razr vs. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip cameras
Both devices follow the same strategy: a main camera setup that can be used for selfies when the phone is closed (via the aforementioned mini screens), but which will primarily take photos while the phone is open.Â
The Motorola Razrâs single 16MP f/1.7 camera takes decent selfies, though we found it tough to focus front-facing shots through the mini-display. Fully open, the camera performed well in daylight and unremarkably in low-light, though its Night Vision mode helped. Its smattering of other modes are typical of Motorola, with the fun but niche-appealing Cinemagraph and Spot Color rounding out the more typical panorama and slow-motion video.

The Galaxy Z Flip wins out â on paper, at least, as supply shortages have meant we havenât gotten our hands on the phone for longer than a 24-hour review period. But its dual 12MP f/1.8 main + 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide lenses make it a superior package, especially given how well a very similar lens duo worked in the Samsung Galaxy S10e.Â
Both devices also have smaller front-facing cameras at the top of their internal displays â for video chatting, say, or just to take a selfie while the screen is open. The Razrâs 5MP f/2.0 lens is fine and clear enough, though weâd expect a bit clearer shots from the 10MP f/2.4 shooter on the Z Flip.
Based on experience with previously-released phones from both brands, weâre willing to bet the Z Flip outperforms the Razr in terms of camera performance. But itâs not as much of a blowout as before given how much Motorola handsetsâ cameras have improved.
Motorola Razr vs. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip performance
On paper, this versus will be a pretty clean comparison: the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is a more powerful phone, full stop.
The  Motorola Razr still has respectable specs, but theyâre more in line with mid-range phones, not pricey flagships. It packs a Snapdragon 710 processor, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of non-expandable storage. In our testing, this was enough for typical use, web browsing, watching media, and gaming. The lower-than-expected chipset and RAM didnât seem to hold the phone back.Â
The Z Flip, on the other hand, packs the Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage â and on-device space might be its biggest advantage, given neither device can be bought in bigger configurations, nor can they expand via microSD.Â
If that wasnât enough, the Z Flip comes with Android 10 out of the box, which is to be expected for any phone launching in 2020. But the Razr comes with Android 9, missing out on universal dark mode and new navigation options â some of which Motorola has added to the Razr as custom additions anyway, but not quite the same.Â

Motorola Razr vs. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip battery
In another consequence of design, the Motorola Razr comes with a smaller 2,510mAh battery than the Galaxy Z Flipâs 3,300mAh capacity. We havenât gotten to test the Z Flip, but those sheer numbers lead us to expect longer battery life.
Thatâs not a difference in layout, per se: both phones pack batteries in the top and bottom halves of the phone, per iFixitâs Motorola Razr and Galaxy Z Flip teardowns. We can only presume itâs a choice to pack as much in the available space, and the Z Flip seems to have more space.Â
Neither phone has terribly fast charging â the Z Flip maxes out at 15W versus the 18W for the Razr â but Samsungâs foldable does have the option to wirelessly charge, which Motorolaâs does not. Â
Conclusion
While the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip outshines the Motorola Razr in several (but not all) categories, we should restate that clamshell foldables are in their early days. These are two designs that approach the problem â how can smartphones fold? â from two different directions.Â
At the end of the day, thatâs exciting. Competition lowers prices, spurs innovation, and trims away what we dislike. While both the Razr and Z Flip have things we like, including basic foldability and some neat features that take advantage of the format, there are still things we want, like better battery life, expandable storage and a headphone jack (always have to ask).Â
Hopefully thatâs enough information to help anyone whoâs picking between these foldables, but itâs also a look into the future of phones. In the coming years, we wouldnât be surprised if folding functionality comes to cheaper and cheaper phones until itâs a standard perk that doesnât push typical smartphone functionality up to premium prices.
These are the first clamshell-format to hit the market of all the foldable phones

8 influencer marketing statistics that will guide your strategy in 2019 and beyond
Remember Beanie Babies?
These stuffed toys inspired perhaps the quintessential collector fad of the 1990s, giving Gen-X and millennial consumers their own little taste of Tulip Mania. All the enormous hype and eye-popping price tags got a big boost from a then-innovative source: one of the first real blogs, maintained by parent company Ty, on which different Beanie Babies would âpostâ their ghostwritten updates to an online diary.
The Ty blog entries showcased the early potential of influencer marketing, the practice of building brand awareness, cultivating an audience and shaping purchase decisions via the power of well-known and persuasive personalities. In that case, it entailed personas modeled on highly sought-after toys, meant to drive word-of-mouth about their appeal in lieu of conventional ad buys. Today, âinfluencer marketingâ as a term is nearly synonymous with the recommendations of peers and online content creators, as well as celebrity endorsements.
You wouldnât be mistaken to think that influencer marketing is as much about the messenger and their chosen medium â whether thatâs a blog or, increasingly, a social media platform â as it is about the message in question. So does it actually work? Weâve put together these influencer marketing statistics to help answer this question and guide you in incorporating it into your marketing initiatives.
1. 70 percent of YouTube viewers trust YouTube creators more than other celebrities
Everything from an in-depth product review to a quick how-to video has a natural home on YouTube, making the platform an especially versatile channel through which influencer marketers can reach and affect their audiences. And those audiences are huge.
The above number, taken from a Google-sponsored study, indicates that literally 1 billion+ plus individuals place YouTube stars among the foremost trendsetters and tastemakers. Popular channels like those of fashion reviewer Grace Helbig and podcaster Joe Rogan have millions of subscribers apiece.
More importantly, their followers are highly engaged and likely to act on what they hear. Six in 10 YouTubers would give more weight to a content creatorâs advice on what to buy than they would a traditional celebrity endorsement.
A successful influencer marketing campaign on YouTube could take the form of a hands-on demo, careful product placement or daily vlogging. There are so many ways to build and monetise an audience on YouTube for marketing efforts within your particular niche, whether thatâs beauty product recommendations or power tool guides
2. Instagram topped 1 billion active users in 2018 â and most of them are millennials and Gen-Z
If we had to point out where influencer marketing crossed the Rubicon from âoh this is kind of a neat ideaâ to âwow there is serious power hereâ, it would be Instagramâs launch in 2010. Instagram took influencer marketing mobile, dramatically expanding the potential audience.
Its distinctive aesthetics and user demographics, which skew younger than the general population, also made it an ideal platform for posting the aspirational content so conducive to building brand awareness and loyalty. You donât have to take our word for it, though â 87 percent of influencers cited Instagram as their favorite platform in 2018.
Between 2016 and 2017, the number of Instagram posts bearing the FTC-required #ad or #sponsored hashtags for sponsored content surged to 1.5 million. These updates generated over 1 billion likes between them that year. But those numbers donât tell the whole story, as influencer marketing efforts on Instagram are often subtle and organic.
Almost two-thirds of the top-performing Instagram posts feature products and find their audiences through carefully selected hashtags, filters and additional details such as geotags and video captions (these are very important, and a lot of people donât even know they exist). The Instagram users who engage with influencer posts are relatively young millennial consumers; over 60 percent of them under 35. That puts them squarely in the lucrative 18-34 segment that many marketers target.
Bottom line: Almost any modern influencer marketing campaign will be #blessed to have a strong presence on Instagram. As much as three-quarters of purchasing decisions by Instagram users are influenced by what they see on the platform.
3. Nine in ten Pinterest users use their pins to plan purchase decisions
Other than Instagram, no platform is so closely associated with influencer marketing as Pinterest, the image-centric social network that launched in 2010. Pinterestâs pinboard-inspired design lets users assemble collections of pictures, GIFs, videos and other items, many of which serve as blueprints for future purchases.
If services like Pocket and Instapaper offer the webâs version of a âRead It Laterâ button, Pinterest is a close as it gets to a âBuy It Later (Probably)â button. Ninety percent of Pinterest users saying they use it to make purchasing decisions and 60 percent buy something from a brand after seeing a promoted pin.
To influencer marketers, Pinterest offers a great balance of branded content opportunities and organic reach. To Pinners, the site is a much more trusted source of product recommendations and exposure than search engines, other social media or even friends and family.
Pinterest offers greater flexibility than the other major influencer marketing platforms. A Pinterest campaign might entail curating a special board that mixes products from top brands, using promoted pins or participating in the official Pin Collective program, which pairs businesses with content creators who are experts in producing beautiful, high-engagement pins.
The long half-life of Pinterest pins also allows for highly protracted marketing efforts. The typical pin takes 3.5 months to generate half of its engagement, compared to 90 minutes for a Facebook update and only 24 minutes for a tweet.
4. Twitch averaged more than 3 million unique monthly broadcasters in 2018
A Netflix executive once identified the hit game âFortniteâ as a bigger competitor than Hulu or HBO. Thatâs because on top of actual playing time, users collectively watch billions of minutes of lengthy live playthroughs of âForniteâ and other games, along with non-gaming content. Influencer marketers are capitalising on the platformâs notably high levels of engagement.
Users who spend only a few seconds engaging with marketing content on Instagram or Facebook might spend minutes with it on Twitch, since they are giving the live video their full attention. There are plenty of effective ways to reach an audience on Twitch via an influencer campaign, including:
Unboxing videos.
Product shout-outs.
Sponsored live streams.
Giveaway contests.
While itâs not as well-known an influencer marketing platform as Instagram, Pinterest or YouTube, Twitch is an up-and-comer with undeniable potential. Partnering with an influential content creator on a live stream is a relatively low-cost way for a brand to incorporate video into its marketing efforts and increase its chances of sustained engagement.
Donât mistake Twitch for a gaming-only platform, although that does remain its most prominent vertical. The platform has dedicated categories for hobbies and crafts, food and drink, art, science and technology, special events and more. With more than 9 million channels up and running, thereâs endless variety across Twitch and plenty of room for you to reach the right audience.
5. 43 percent of Americans get their news from Facebook
No discussion of todayâs social media-powered influencer marketing would be complete without a few words about the Social Network itself and its more than 2 billion members. Facebookâs sheer size makes it an important forum for influencers, despite it lacking the curatorial design of Pinterest, the cultivated aesthetic of Instagram or the video-only format of YouTube and Twitch.
The stat above shows just how wide Facebookâs reach is across digital life. Itâs a local and national news site as much as it is a place to like vacation photos or reply to questions in someoneâs status update. The massive number of eyeballs focused on Facebook means that reaching even a small sliver of its active users can generate considerable return on investment (ROI). Marketers as a whole see Facebook as the best social network for ROI on ad spend. What about influencer marketers in particular?
Facebook has gradually made it easier for influencers to team up with organisations looking to reach certain audiences. Dedicated tools such as the Brand Collabs Manager simplify the process by which brands can find, contact and collaborate with content creators whose audiences overlap with their own.
Even without using these specialised services, influencers can get plenty of mileage from Facebook by reposting and sharing assets originally posted elsewhere, such as a video or infographic. Influencer content on Facebook has a higher click-through rate than ads, although its cost per click is also higher.
6. 40 percent of Twitter users have made a purchase in response to an influencerâs tweet
Twitter has likened influencer marketing to the digital equivalent of a Wheaties box. That cereal brand became notable for the athlete portraits that appeared on many of its boxes and indicated the starâs endorsement. The fast-paced, conversational nature of Twitter makes it a powerful engine for generating word-of-mouth via comparably high-profile endorsements, albeit ones that can attract thousands of likes and retweets within a matter of minutes.
Twitter users who see tweets from brands experience a 2.7-fold jump in purchase intent. Add influencer tweets to the mix, though, and the boost nearly doubles, to a 5.2x increase. In fact, Twitterâs researchers discovered only a narrow gap between the share of users who sought out recommendations from influencers (49 percent) and those who did the same from friends and family (56 percent).
On Twitter, as on the other platforms weâve looked at, the best approach to building brand awareness and converting users is usually to combine influencer and branded content. That way, you can reach an audience at different parts of the sales funnel while presenting them with varied content, from video testimonials to tweets optimised and tagged to gain traffic from current events and holidays,
7. Word-of-mouth generates twice as many sales as direct advertising
Weâve talked a lot about specific social networks and how they let influencers connect with their audiences. YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitch, Facebook and Twitter are undoubtedly powerful tools, but what does success look like when using them? Start with high engagement, which leads to increased word-of-mouth activity.
An effective YouTube explainer video or a strategically placed pin can generate the consumer-to-consumer recommendations that often provide much greater ROI than simply buying an ad. According to McKinsey, recommendations of the iPhone during its first 2 years of availability in Germany drove six times as many sales of the devices as Appleâs own paid advertising.
Very little if anything in the marketing world compares to a direct recommendation from a trusted source. Whereas display ads often lose out to ad blockers and video spots are either ignored or skipped, word-of-mouth suggestions reliably hit home. Friends and family are high on the list, and so are content creators with large and attentive audiences, as Twitter found in its research on how the platform shaped buying decisions.
8. Brands average a $6.50 return for every $1 of influencer marketing spend
At the end of the day, influencer marketing efforts must do more than build an audience. They must also show tangible ROI and prove that theyâre worth investing in, even at the expense of possibly bypassing more traditional routes such as direct advertising.
Evaluating an influencer marketing campaign is complex, with many possible KPIs to look at, including:
Brand mentions.
Comments, likes and shares.
Overall audience reach.
Form completions and other conversions.
Changes in sales.
Inevitably, results from influencer marketing vary widely by company and platform. Theyâre generally positive, however â 70 percent of respondents to an Influencer Marketing Hub survey reported an ROI of $2 or more and the average ROI was $6.50 per dollar. Some companies saw as much as a 20-to-1 return!
In 2019 and beyond, influencer marketing is a critical area to focus on, alongside other similarly proven practices like SEO and email marketing. While the days of using a humble online diary to generate a huge bubble in the prices of stuffed toys â and an ensuing cultural phenomenon â are long gone, you have a more sustainable opportunity in front of you: The chance to cultivate audience trust and admiration, all at the massive scale of the web.
