What’s your OTP for your muse(s)?

I try not to have any one OTP though I have repeatedly said and still stand by that ships with fellow Phantom Thieves do have the strongest groundwork for a romantic relationship since there's already that bond or trust. Like just going over the Phantom Thieves really quickly.

Akira/Ren/Joker - I think that Joker was probably his first true friend in a long time and someone who almost immediately proved himself to Ryuji as a good and stand up guy - I think he admires Joker a lot whilst also recognizing Joker carries a lot of weight on his shoulders and I personally see him as trying to bring some cheer, trying to ease some of Joker's burdens as best as he can.

Ann - They've got that middle school connection even if they weren't really close friends - throughout the game, they've got that playfully bickering dynamic which could easily be read as flirty if you wanted to see it that way. The two along with Joker and Morgana were the first of the Phantom Thieves and I just feel they especially have such a strong bond and a strong foundation for a relationship. I also just feel like they'd have a lot of fun being together.

Yusuke - I do love that one skit in Mementos where Ryuji offers to take him out for ramen and after their initial rocky introduction, I can genuinely see Ryuji being protective over Yusuke and wanting to bond with him, not wanting him to be lonely - I think their contrasting personalities and interests would make for a lot of fun.

Makoto - I've always felt he's quite in awe of her, she's student council president and carries so much shit, she's also a complete badass in combat - similarly to Joker I feel he'd want to ease her burdens and be there for her however he could.

Haru - Haru is someone who at her core is incredibly sweet, I just love the idea of these two gardening together and bonding and spending time together. Definitely among the more underrated ships in my opinion.

Akechi - They'd honestly make a fun enemies to lovers ship, it's fun to flesh out their dynamic much more through RP!

Kasumi/Sumire - They've got a bit of an athletics commonality and I feel like if they spent more time together, something could potentially develop, they could become closer.

I also think he's cute with Mishima and it's fun to talk about shipping him with P3 and P4 characters like Chie, Naoto or anyone else! I like to think I'm pretty open-minded when it comes to ships.

What are you willing to RP when it comes to shipping?

Barring anything grievously problematic or inappropriate (like a relationship that's abusive in any way, shape or form or has an uncomfy age gap) I like to think that I'm pretty open minded - whether it's a pre-established ship, slow burn, even if it's more unconventional like friends with benefits situation. If someone wants to potentially ship their muse with Ryuji I'm absolutely open to hearing them out and hearing what they want to do as well as contributing some input of my own and I suppose maybe because I've had so many awesome partners who've never really tried to push or test my boundaries, I haven't thought of anything that would make me really uncomfortable, barring what I mentioned above - pretty much anything short of writing outright smut or porn. Just not comfortable doing that, especially if the muses in question are minors.

How large does the age gap have to be to make it uncomfortable?

I mean if you're looking to ship with a 16/17 year old Ryuji - a high schooler - and your muse is an adult, that'd be an instant no from me. I have of course done verses where he's a bit older and is a young adult and likewise, I'd never want to ship an adult Ryuji with a much younger muse. So yeah, absolutely no adult/minor relationships on here - it's either teenager/teenager or adult/adult.

Are you selective when shipping?

I mean if someone is interested in shipping but our muses have never interacted I do at least ask for some interactions to gauge the chemistry first but I don't consider it being selective or testing them, we're just checking the chemistry, you know? Wouldn't want to write a ship where they feel more like siblings than they do like lovers.

Also having a relationship with the other mun does help but it's not a necessity - so long as we're both comfortable and willing to respect each others' boundaries, that's all you can really ask for - I will tell them if I feel uncomfortable with a certain aspect of the ship or ever wish to drop them and I expect them to do the same for me. Transparency on both sides.

I'm really lucky to be able to ship him with so many muses and I think it'd be unfair to single a select few out when there's so many amazing ships so I'll just say that I'm endlessly grateful for each and every one of my ships and those who write them with me - it's impossible for me to highlight or rank or single out any one of them because they're all each wonderful and cherished in their own right.

Does one have to ask to ship with you?

I mean, I'm pretty dense so it does certainly help - I try not to assume anything - like if for example, we have a really flirty thread my mind doesn't immediately go to 'well looks like we're shipping them' because there are some instances where it could be just that - just innocent flirting and nothing more, yeah? If I don't 100% know where another mun stands regarding shipping our muses, I either ask them outright or I play it safe and send them platonic stuff instead. Nobody wants to be that person forcing a ship.

That's right - each ship is treated as its own individual relationship - so there's no shenanigans, no cheating, no nothing. I respect blogs who can go single ship and I think that's wonderful for them and for their partners but it's just for me.

I didn't rank these in order, but here they are (and oh my gosh was it tough to choose! I especially agonized trying to narrow down the last spot in my ships list, and honestly, it could have gone so many ways...):

My Top 7 Favorite Media

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood: If we’re basing purely off of what I think is the best media maybe ever written, FMAB is close to the top. It is the full package of stunning worldbuilding, characterization, emotional depth, intricate yet clear plot lines, and incredibly important themes. I could write an essay on each of those points. It’s the sort of show (and manga) that is a masterclass in how to tell a story beautifully.

Yu Yu Hakusho: Yusuke and Team Urameshi mean so much to me. YYH is a classic ’90s anime in some ways, but it has so much heart. Yusuke’s character growth is amazing. And the humor in the English dub never fails to make me laugh. Yet this show also deeply affects me and has such beautiful messages about love and friendship. What a dichotomy.

Assassination Classroom: This show is criminally underrated. Or, rather, not enough people have seen it. It is one of the most incredible things I’ve ever seen. It’s so sweet. It’s so fucking funny. And it’s so heartwarming. I love these kids so much. I adore Korosensei. Every episode teaches us something—like a real learning opportunity!—and I genuinely cannot say enough good things about it. It makes me smile forever.

Kuroko's Basketball: I am a huge fan of sports anime and this one has so many elements I’m obsessed with. (Plus, Kagami Taiga is in my top ten favorite characters of all time.) There’s Kagami and Kuroko—a red/blue duo who are in love. There are emotionally high-stakes sports games. There are compelling “enemies.” There’s an incredible soundtrack. But most of all, there are basketball superpowers—things no ordinary basketball player could ever do (100% accuracy!?) that just make it so much fun.

Haikyuu!!: My other favorite sports anime is on the other side of the spectrum for realism. It has no superpowers, just hard work and friendship and lots and lots of great characters. I love this show so much because it constantly makes me root for Karasuno, but then I’ll still cry when the other team loses because the characters have all been shown to just be high school kids with dreams who love the sport and are having fun. It’s really sweet.

Demon Slayer: As a total package, Demon Slayer is incredible. It has stunningly beautiful animation; a wonderful protagonist in Tanjirou (and deuteragonist in Nezuko); a lovely sibling story that drives the narrative; a compelling and mysterious central conflict with the series’ big-bad Muzan; an absolutely kickass soundtrack; lovable side characters; high stakes; questions of morality and duty and tradition; and honestly, more that I’m struggling to even name. It’s just an incredibly good anime (and manga).

Tortall books by Tamora Pierce (includes 3 quartets, a trilogy, a duology, and a few standalones; my absolute favorites are the Protector of the Small quartet): Tamora Pierce shaped who I am as a person. I grew up reading her fantasy series and still reread them often. Essentially, they’re books about heroines who conquer various odds, save the day, etc. And because there are so many books that take place in the same universe over many years, you get to see various characters in different lights through different characters’ eyes. My favorite series is about Keladry of Mindelan, the first girl to pursue her knighthood since the king made it legal for girls to do so. Kel is an absolute badass, and she never turns away from injustice, and I genuinely want to be the type of person she is.

My Top 7 Favorite Ships

Kagami/Kuroko (Kuroko’s Basketball): These two will forever and always be one of my top ships. I genuinely don’t know how people can hear some of the things they say to each other and come to a not-in-love conclusion. They complete each other in the way only a true light/shadow metaphor can, but they’re also best friends who laugh together and support each other and have an insanely strong bond. By five episodes in, Kagami is already so protective over Kuroko that he's ready to throw down with street basketball punks over his not-boyfriend. And by the end of the series the trust they have in one another is so beyond a basketball anime that it’s almost ridiculous.

Yusuke/Kuwabara (Yu Yu Hakusho): The number of times these two were willing to die for each other (or gave up their life energy to save the other from death; or found hitherto untapped power as a result of having seen the other hurt) makes me want to scream. Kuwabara crashed Yusuke’s wake to scream at his corpse that he couldn’t die (“You’re supposed to be here…for me!”). Kuwabara shared his life energy to save an injured Yusuke after their very first mission. Yusuke fought multiple insanely powerful demons spurred on at least twice specifically by the fact that they’d wounded Kuwabara. Kuwabara faked his own death thinking it would help Yusuke in battle (which it did, but it also devastated him). Yusuke chased a car down on a bicycle when Kuwabara was kidnapped. Kuwabara cut through the fabric of reality for Yusuke. You get my point. I fucking love them.

Yusuke/Keiko (Yu Yu Hakusho): Yet, I also love Yusuke’s canonical love interest with him. Keiko is his reason for fighting, the light at the end of the tunnel. In one of the very first episodes, while he’s still trying to earn his resurrection, he says that he sees no point in coming back to life if Keiko won’t be there when he does. She’s the only person who stuck by him until he met Team Urameshi. She’s always believed in him, but she doesn’t take crap from him either. They have such a strong relationship that he even once saves the world by essentially trusting in his love for her. (When asked by terrorists to press one of three colored buttons to save the planet, he chose the blue one because blue is Keiko's favorite color.)

Zuko/Mai (Avatar: The Last Airbender): I will probably never shut the fuck go about how important Mai is to Zuko’s journey or how cool she is as a character and how ridiculously underrated she is. She’s so much more than people give her credit for and she understands Zuko on a deeper level than so many other characters. She counters his angst (as only Iroh can do) and she tries to cheer him up (and she inspires some of his only true smiles in the series!). And most importantly, she stands by him even when he abandons her. For me, “I love Zuko more than I fear you” will always be the standard by which other Avatar couples will be measured.

Tamaki/Haruhi (Ouran High School Host Club): I love these two so much. They’re both so queer. Haruhi is my gender-nonconforming fave and the most wonderful character who’s ever responded *shrug emoji* to the question of their gender or sexuality. She’s sassy and hilarious and the reason I say “these damn rich people” with relative frequency. And the fact that she fell for Tamaki, the flamboyant dumb-dumb with a heart of absolute pure gold…ugh. I adore it. He is too good for this world. And they bring out the best in each other. I love them so much.

Ed/Winry (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood): The balance that Edward and Winry strike together is beautiful. They’re both insanely strong people emotionally, and they’re both wildly intelligent and talented. But their compassion and care is what truly helps them shine. They’ve seen each other at their lowest and supported each other through those times, and they know the weakest and most vulnerable parts of each other. The strength of their bond covers distance and time, and Winry is the home that Edward can always return to. She holds him (and, by extension, Al) together and offers the unwavering support he so desperately needs throughout his journey.

Simon/Baz (Carry On series by Rainbow Rowell): This series hit me like a punch to the gut when I first read it. I love chosen ones who don't really match their prophesies and star-crossed lovers who find workarounds because they care more about each other than whatever is standing in their way. And these two are wonderful together. They're so messy and hopeless and sad sometimes, but they have each other and it's really lovely. Simon Snow is a disaster who loses just about everything except his friends and has to claw his way back from the brink throughout the series; and Baz Pitch never thought he deserved much happiness anyway but finds out that he does, but he's going to have to fight for it.

I watched this pilot for a show on YouTube called "ongezellig" or unsociable, roughly. Found it by scrolling on reddit and seeing a meme about how tied the shows fandom is to 4chan and generally offensive some of it is (not my words btw, and to be clear, they conveyed this through hitler beatboxing)

Course, I read the title and was intrigued so I clicked on some links, found the show was Dutch, but then found English subtitles and was saved. Watched the whole thing, which was like 20 minutes long, and felt.. diffrent after. The show struck a cord with me, one I rarely get now.

Most shows or media in general I like to consume will have characters I like, obviously. But that's mainly because I *want* to be them. Majima from yakuza, vaas from far cry, Harry from disco to a degree even. Love them all, and they all act so freely and with so much joy that I can't help but want to literally BE them. I want to not give a fuck and be happy like them.

BUT. then you have characters like yusuke from persona, Harry again (I'm obsessed), bojack horseman (especially to a degree) and now, maya from ongezellig. All these guys and gal get stuck in me head and heart for 1 thing they have that the previous characters didn't. **I see myself In all of them, the actual me.** the weirdness and outgoing of yusuke, the guilt and day to day shittyness with horseman, the urge to keep wanting to try in a failed and hopeless world with Harry. And now, the isolation, comfortable loneliness and nervous tingles (occasionally) from maya.

And with this, I don't want to be her. Rather, I want to be around them, talk to them. When I see myself in a character, that's investment. That's when a character goes from well written to emotionally gripping. Because it's not just them, but you, who need to succeed. And I love love love when stories can do this to me. Not only does it get you to look at your own life critically, but now there's someone who's great and who just gets you.

So, aside from testing my essay and storytelling here (how was it, bad? Good? Would drive again) I also wanted to just say thank you to the people at studio mazza, as well as its creator for creating this wonderful show. I checked your Dutch version of patron out, glad to see you ain't ghosted the internet. And I hope that someday, you will get the recognition you deserve and that more can watch so the show goes from underrated to just rated (the dream, I know.)

Akeshukita has good dynamics all around, in every direction the ship works and it works in a different way that complements the other parts of the ship, let's start with the ship that started all this flood of weird anon hate for some reason

Shuake is a very passionate ship, i see them as a strong chemical reaction, very powerful (ejem, maybe very toxic even) but the main thing or like the main problem for shuake is that they lack stability, it's an unstable ship, of course i mean, you kinda just fix it and move on right, but when we analyse it, Akechi leaves, Joker sulks, Akechi could be alive without telling Joker, they hate eachother, they love eachother, in general, unstable. But they're still like so passionate and tragic and the whole aspect of fate it's sooooo good, on the contrary Shukita is almost exactly the opposite, Shukita is a highly domestic ship, in which it's easy to imagine them just living together with a normal, basic, loving life. This can be very good for fluff and comfort, but we can't deny that it lacks a certain spice that you can definitely find in Shuake. So between these two ships, they can complement each other. Yusuke adds some stability to Shuake, Akechi adds some spice to Shukita

Now here's the kicker: Akekita is a criminally underrated amazing ship. In Akekita both Yusuke and Akechi can find something they could never find in a relationship with joker, which is relatability. Yusuke and Goro are so similar that Yusuke himself in game said that if the PTs hadn't gotten to him, he could have easily gone a similar route Goro did. And when you think about early game Yusuke, the one that blackmails them and threatens the Phantom Thieves, he's right. As much as Joker could love either of them, there's just going to be a comfort that they would be able to find in eachother and that they wouldn't be able to find in anyone else, but they still need Joker to act as a bridge, Akechi wouldn't open himself to Yusuke just like that, Akechi is so closed off and the only person he lets in is Joker, and for Yusuke Joker is a regulator, Joker also knows how to manage Yusuke's eccentricities and translate them to the rest of the world. (seee just the entire Yusuke SL which is basically Yusuke misinterpreting things and Joker being there to explain and aid)

Visual Kei (V系) : My Current Hyperfixation.

I'd like to so badly talk about V系 (Visual Kei/Vkei). This subculture has been my top interest these past few months. It is SO underrated.

Context:

Visual Kei is an alternative music and fashion movement defined as flamboyant, androgynous and theatrical. The aesthetic takes influences from international and Japanese glam rock and punk rock bands.

I have just started getting into vkei. Although I am not that educated on it, I love vkei as a whole. Its fashion, the vibe it gives off, its musicians—and most importantly, its music.

Firstly, I want to talk about the FIRST EVER band that got in me into vkei: MALICE MIZER.

Malice Mizer

This band was nothing but purely majestic. The first song I heard from them was entitled, "Ma Chèrie."

MALICE MIZER was my first vkei band ever. Each and every one of their music had me ascending! The day I discovered this band was the day I found happiness.

I am currently obsessed with this band. They are the first ever JROCK band I have listened to. Despite Gulu Gulu and Malice Mizer being under the same roof (vkei), Gulu Gulu features more rock and metal-like music, unlike Malice Mizer with their angelic songs.

—— Their songs portray loud music, with band vocalist—Ai—screaming his lungs out. But nonetheless, the music they make is absolutely amazing. I cannot explain my love for this band.

DADAROMA

Dadaroma was the 2nd band I discovered right after Gulu Gulu, and I realized that their music was a bit similar. Specifically, the vocalists' voice. Ai from Gulu Gulu and Yoshiatsu from Dadaroma both captivated me with their amazing voices.

My love for this band is actually insane. Their visuals are stunning and crazed, plus their music makes me feel so lively.

JILUKA is such a talented and wonderful band. I recommend this band to people who listen to heavy metal. Despite their ethereal looks, the band makes such crazy music which is why I love them. They were the first band to get me into metal + the band men are so pretty and kind.

A lot of vkei fans will probably say that the bands I put here are all overrated and that I'm a 'poser' or whatever, but don't think like that.

I know more bands than just JILUKA, Gulu Gulu, Malice Mizer and Dadaroma.

For instance, I listen to Ashmaze, BUCK-TICK, Mejibray, KAKUMAY & Dir en grey. I know a bunch of vkei fans know these bands and consider them popular/overrated, but there's a reason why it's popular. The music, members and the band itself is beautiful and astonishing, which is why it has earned its title as 'popular'.

joker - he's a he/him lesbian and if you don't see it I hope you get better.

ryuji - dude doesn't know what he is. people keep telling him he's bi and has had it explained many times but it doesn't add up in his brain.

morgana - your kitty hatred has blinded you from the fact that there's something gender in this cat. nobody knows not even him. nobody has really bothered to figure out.

ann - I could go one of two ways with ann. on one hand she's got like a real adult job and defined sense of style so I could see that just being how she carries herself for a long time but also she's like 17? I could easily see her having a breakdown and completely restyling herself into something more punk and alt because of how much of her image was built up by people not around her. oh she's a lesbian also but you knew that.

yusuke - the least gay. dude is like harry styles or that soccer mom that looks like a lesbian. he just dresses like that and is like "what??? no I don't like men how silly." maybe he'll like men later once he stops being absolutely weird to people and asking them to strip for him but right now he's the straight one to me. (am I a yusuke hater yes)

makoto - makoto is a lesbian and makoto is more femme than you think actually. like after she gives up on being a cop and decides to do literally anything else she relaxes and connects with a feminity she never got to fully explore. she can't really leave her old style behind fully and is probably ending up a he/she and just presents differently based on the day.

futaba - futaba is our most obvious contender for a trans woman lesbian as well as a character who's already trans before the events of the game but honestly imagining that I think that would mean she has the most awful 4chan brainworms about being trans and combined with her depression it she ends up with a lot of self loathing. it's a bad time and as makoto learns more about how she wants to present she realizes how insane futaba sounds (a fight breaks out when futaba calls makoto a theyfab).

or honestly? I can kind of see trans guy or cis ally lesbian futaba? like I could them being the absolute weird 4chan trans lesbian but I could also see her being the kind of girl who trans girls flock to because she's pretty and is also way too online. and then she's like mid 20s and is dating a trans girl she met off 2chan and being like "I used to say kek but if you call someone a passoid one more time I'm going to fucking destroy you."

haru - I said makoto was more femme than you think and maybe you saw this coming but haru is more butch than you think. similar to ann her entire aesthetic is built by what was expected of her and now that she's free of that she kind of accidentally falls into something more butch. I think an underrated aspect of haru's character is how much she enjoys violence.

like obviously we talk about sadist haru as a haha funny but I find something very compelling about the fact that haru has an intrinsic enjoyment of combat. other female characters like ann and makoto talk about feeling uncomfortable and scared in the metaverse while it seems to be a fantastic stress relief for haru. it's probably the most physical activity she's ever done. her satisfaction doesn't come from taking down a target (because you know. taking down her dad didn't go well and then after that she's in the endgame where it's really really do or die). it comes from the process of being in the metaverse and fighting shadows.

and she learns that working up a sweat, destroying things, and getting her heart racing are all things she learns are good for her mentally. after the events of the game when her outlet for that is gone she tries to find something more sustainable to do with her energy from fencing (a safe form of combat and competition), to weightlifting (so she build up more muscles now that she can't summon a persona), and finding something like axe throwing to do as a way to use an axe of some sort again.

I think her green thumb nature stops her form getting a lumberjack occupation so she doesn't get much excuse to use a full size axe and something more aggressive like boxing or MMA she doesn't actually have it in her to hurt someone else so intentionally like that. so she isn't fully back to where she was mentally when fighting shadows but its a routine that really works for her and allows her to relieve stress and gets her stronger so she can work on her gardening which gets more and more physically demanding as she expands her garden more and more.

I think one time the group meets up for the first time after a few months maybe a year and someone (probably ryuji) is like "damn haru you're like the most built of any of us now! right on man!" and haru is like "huh?" because she still sees herself as the way she had been set up to see herself for her teen years. she spends that night looking at old photos of herself and it finally hits her how much her freedom has changed her for the better. how when she was 17 she couldn't have imagined what she would be like now but now she can't imagine anything else.

I still think she dresses femme pretty often when she's going out to fancy parties for work or meeting up with friends. she hasn't given up anything from exporing this part of herself. she's just become a more well rounded (and far too busy) person.

yoshizawa - dog I don't know what her deal is. honestly I think she's straight. she doesn't seem like she thinks about romance enough to have an opinion so she's probably comphet.

my #1 most underappreciated fic (for the size of the fandom) is probably actually trade in your diamonds for pearls, which is yu yu hakusho femslash with a silly premise and breaking up the Main Canon Het Pairing In The Fandom lol (its shocking how popular Yusuke/Keiko is when theyre so very, very bad for each other! Let them be free of heterosexual obligation!!), but the fic i actually want to spotlight is Apples, oranges, and other poisoned fruit

which is like... a femslash-adjacent crossover fanfic between Confines of the Crown and Long Live The Queen, two small indie games by the same developers, written in first-person pastiche of the style of Confines of the Crown! I'm like. Genuinely so proud it. I love the concept of the crossover, I loved writing the interplay between Madeleine and Dolores (and Dolores' hurt and jealousy) and how Madeleine is struggling against her life-long identity as Helper Of Hapless Royals versus her newfound, hard-earned freedom from that world. I really really really love it! It was wonderful to research, write, and give as a gift, and I knew all the while that I was probably writing for maybe three people in the whole universe, but it's really one of the things I'm proudest of anyways. <3

On AO3, I think I have 3? fics that I mean to write More Chapters Of and simply have Not (see previous post about: ADHD and writing), and one I would call outright abandoned lol. In my files I'd say I have about 6 things I am actively Working On!

Oughhhhhhh very very VERY specific to this au fearplay.

So. It's a game right. Self aware au. Game world, game rules, files, code, etc etc. GOOD. Also I'm making it canon for this au that Akira REALLY likes the game's music because of course he does. That is important for scenario 1 and 2. Sound-based horror is UNDERRATED.

3 scenarios.

Scenario 1: Takes place in the corrupted Palace. It is very corrupted for two reasons, one being that it isn't supposed to exist in the game by any means, and two that it's actually a fusion of two separate Palaces (being Akira's and the player's, actually it's a whole twist of the plot that it's Akira's Palace at all because there is so much specific overlap between Akira and the player that I will be more than happy to go into). Anyways, in the middle of the thing, right. Spiralling hallway, looks like a set designer for the game took acid, the squad is making their way down into the depths.

The lights dim ever so slightly.

A voice, echoing and large.

" And as you look to the horizon, not a cloud..."

All the Phantom Thieves freeze. The voice is... singing?

"But then stormy weather's caught you cold."

The voice drowns out the heartbeats in their ears as the group clusters together for safety.

"Seems like it crept up out of nowhere all around you..."

The lights have fizzled out just in time to hide the tendrils of pitch black goo creeping along the walls, covering everything but the darkened lights.

"It's not quite what you foretold..."

The squelching of slime is buried under the playful, chipper tone. A pair of blood red hands, each larger than any of the Thieves were tall, encircle the unaware adventurers in the darkness.

" You'll never see it-

"

The lights come on.

Scenario 2: Shadow Akira is loose in Shibuya after the fusion. The Phantom Thieves had run, but they were now painfully aware that reality was no longer their savior. As the crashing footsteps approach, they could hear... music? Soaring, grand guitar chords that make Player's eyes widen with recognition. But... it was discordant, distorted and combined with a rumbling bass that made the small bits of debris leap into the air with every beat.

" I-Is that... Yaldaboath's battle theme?!?"

Amidst the cacophony, a towering figure rises among the skyscrapers, thunderous, mocking laughter makes the asphalt beneath the Phantom Thieves quake with terror equal to their own.

Scenario 3: Less of a specific moment and more of a concept. Sure, big Akira, but also big everyone else. From Player's perspective. You see, getting snatched into the game made them itty bitty, and now EVERYTHING IS WORSE AND INFINITELY SCARIER. But also the entire squad's reactions to smol Player, including Akira's. Idk I think this has potential to maybe calm them down more as compared to them being normal sized. Like interacting with Futaba, for example, would be less nerve wracking when you're posed alongside her Featherman dolls than if you're having to perceive her as entirely a real, regular person after thinking she in no way shape or form existed in any kind of reality. Also Akechi would be generally gentler with them much faster than in his actual arc because Player was VERY much attached to him during their playthrough and he had NO clue how to process or handle that, but he cannot bring himself to be beefing with someone who's 6 inches tall and looks at him like 🥺. Yusuke's interactions would be interesting too, since he's in the same situation, just having an inverse reaction. He is very nice to them and gentle and lovey and the sole reason why they haven't just completely mentally shattered. I have found the PEAK of comedy in Maruki's reaction to this, that being "how the kentucky fried fuck am I supposed to give this child therapy when they are SO HECKIN SMOL"

AND HOLY DICKWAGON THE PALACE SEGMENTS WOULD BE SO SCARY. For context, in the Palace are shadows of the Phantom Thieves, who look normal at first but then turn into, for lack of a better term, waifu themed dnd mimics. YOU ARE SO SMALL. THE SHADOW THIEVES ARE HUGE AND SCARY AND OUT TO KILL YOU SPECIFICALLY AND THAT IS 5 MILLION TIMES EASIER NOW.

P5R Teammates (Favored to Less Favored)

I’m not stopping. I’m on a hyperfixation kick and you can’t stop me. We are basing this on how much I use this companion and the usefulness I feel this companion brings to my personal play style. I also won’t be including Futaba because she would take top spot and she doesn’t really fill the same role as the rest of the squad.

Yusuke Kitagawa: A lot of people prefer Ryuji over Yusuke due to the damage difference. Truth is that Yusuke and Ryuji are the difference between a barbarian and a monk. Both are tanks, but in different ways. I prefer Yusuke because not only is he voiced by Matt Mercer, but he also makes for a VERY good dodge tank that can also deal out loads of damage in groups or on a single target. Plus, he has a way of avoiding critical hits that Ryuji really just struggles with.

Yoshizawa: Look, I’m a DEX fighter, okay? I like agile, artistic, creative fight styles. That and she compliments my Curse magic/high crit fight style. Adding in that she can increase critical rate and has a support move, it just sucks she appears so late game because I vibe with her abilities a lot.

Makoto Niijima: My anchor. She doesn’t do a ton of damage compared to the Top 2 spots, but every team has to have a support. And considering she gets both a full team defense buff and a full team heal, she definitely keeps me alive.

Ann Takamaki: I think she fills a role that’s very underrated and she really sets up a solid niche combo that not a lot of people build into. A lot of her abilities are set around High Magic Damage and Ailments. Her only downside is her lack of variety which frustrates me, but she’s great at teeing up Baton Pass combos for Joker.

Ryuji Sakamoto: The Physical Dreadnaught. I love him and I’ll switch him in with my top 4 pretty regularly, but he and I don’t mix well. And it’s not a kit thing, I don’t think. It’s a luck thing. Not the stat, just he is an inconvenience when he shouldn’t be. Trust me, I love his damage capabilities and his tactics mesh with mine, but if he could just get on the stick in terms of not getting crit at the worst times, not dropping at the worst moments, and not getting focused down almost immediately in every fight, that would be great. Dude literally got criticaled 4 consecutive times when I was fighting the Twins, causing me to lose my buffs. That and he has a very late spin-up in my opinion where he gets all of his good stuff like Agneyastra and God’s Hand at level 70-75-ish whereas Yusuke is pretty damn solid from the jump.

Haru Okumura: A surprise to see her down this far. And I do really enjoy her as a teammate, but I genuinely feel like she suffers from success. Too much good stuff put onto one character, forcing you to pick and choose from too many important things. And considering you have too little space, she is INCREDIBLY good and there has to be balance somewhere, but it would have been nice to spread the love around.

Goro Akechi: Truly would be a solid usable option and his Showtime with Joker is fire, but he overstacks on my favored affinities and favored teammates. Being that both Ryuji and Yusuke can match him in damage despite not having Almighty skills and Akechi only shows up for two Palaces, I just have so many better options at that point that it seems like I’m overdoing it at that point to go THAT all-in. He’s useful in very niche fights where I really need to go all in on damage without setup, but me and Yoshizawa usually cover that late game, so really, he’s overkill for how I stack myself.

Morgana: I mean come on. I know. Great support. Fantastic skills. Salvation and Samerecarm, but I really can’t get over how insufferable he is as a character in the first half of the game. Up until Okumura’s Palace, he’s an ego trip. And apparently, if Mona isn’t with me, I just can’t go anywhere for a week straight (yes, it’s practically a week. I counted). He also doesn’t have great stats and doesn’t really put out the damage you want him to when it really matters (Twins and Lavenza). Obviously, you have to build into him, but when Makoto and Sumire can both also heal and wreck house, it’s like why take the cat? Also, Quetzalcoatl and Ishtar can do what Mona can do and better if they want to, so really why take him.

the yu yu hakusho live action was everything I didn't know I needed. I'm usually a bit wary of live action anime adaptations, especially adaptations of shounen anime, but it really blew my expectations out of the water???

overall, I like the changes they made to the plot, tying many of the major beginning story arcs together actually worked and made it less broken up and episodic. of course, we're left mourning a few of the really good scenes that couldn't fit (genkai!! we hardly knew you in this one...) but i liked the changes. as a long time fan who hasn't seen the anime in ages, it was neat to see it done slightly differently but still recognize all of the story beats.

also, like i was never really attached to kuwabara in the original that much but he is such a bro here. kuwabara was so well done. love that goofy loudmouth. hands down like one of my favorites this time around!!

also i was surprised that i recognized some of the actors? like, HONGO KANATA as Hiei haha. (for reference, i follow hongo kanata's youtube channel...kind of randomly found him and he's a huge pokemon nerd and it's just fun watching his videos to practice my japanese). and Machida Keita as Koenma!

one of the changes i didn't like that much was that one scene of yusuke, still a spirit, trying to save keiko from pulling his body from the burning building. like, the wording they chose for this adaption just loses the gravitas of the original. in this one, he finally agrees to help spirit world with their little spirit detective thing so he can come back to life and save her. but in the original, he is fully willing to throw the egg (which understandably isn't in this version) and his chance of ever returning to life away to save her. that sacrifice means much more, especially because he did decide before that moment to come back to life and was willing to throw it away. and, it's that selfless act of being willing to sacrifice himself to save her that actually saves him (and her too) in the end.

overall, I liked most of the special effects! I feel they went a little too hard on the...alien monster look for some of the demons though. it felt very western-esque. if you didn't tell me they were yokai, i wouldn't have guessed it. special effects for the yoko-karasu and hiei-bui fight, and the toguro brothers were all great though. a...little bit sad we didn't get any KOKURYUHA (is that it...?i'm not double checking that) call outs but stone cold yoko/kurama going ham at the end with his death plant will always be delightful. i will forgive the logic slip that says he shouldn't have appeared in that form at all lol.

they weren't the focus, but i also liked the keiko-yukina friendship! they were cute, and also keiko is totally underrated. the girl is tough as nails. i didn't realize it when I first watched the series way back when.

DUDEEEEEEEEE the way you get it. yusuke is such a misunderstood character i think and you just. hit the nail on the head god. i want to punch him but also give him a gentle kiss on the forehead bc i genuinely don’t think he’s ever received that kind of affection from anyone aside from keiko. and in my heart genkai i know she would never but their bond is very special to me ok ANYWAY YOURE SONREAL WITH HIEI AND YUSUKE. ive yapped abt this before with a friend of mine in dms a while back sooo already got the text locked and loaded teehee.

anyway their bond is like so special to me i think their dynamic is soo underrated i truly do. they’re just similar enough to simultaneously exacerbate each others best and worst traits and it makes me go absolutely crazy, how hiei tempts yusuke to win through brute force and embrace power and superiority while kuwabara tethers him to humanity in dark tournament (also love how hiei and kuwa, despite their bond bc they are friends i will die on this hill, will always butt heads bc they are opposite sides of a spectrum. wholly demon wholly human while yusuke is a chaotic neutral hanging in the middle to be tugged one direction or another. kurama meanwhile is a Secret Other Thing as he should be. yusuke is in the middle while kurama is both simultaneously, and his central conflict is that balancing act. I Love This Show.)

BUT YA the best way i can explain the difference between kuwabara and hiei in their relationships with yusuke is like. kuwabara can speak yusuke’s language (fighting,) but with hiei, that’s his mother tongue. maybe that makes no sense but that’s how i process it. bc they’re so similar like echoes of one another. the core difference between them is their nurture, yusuke raised in ningenkai and hiei in makai but other than that they’re so fucking similar at their cores. fighting is all they know. violence is safe and vulnerable emotion is baring your soft underbelly to be gutted, it’s dangerous it’s stupid and it’s (though they’d never say this part out loud,) terrifying. and they understand each other so well in that regard because like. same hat yk.

tho then again there comes that thing of yusuke hanging in the balance, both human and demon. tying into how even yusuke’s human friends couldn’t fully understand what made him tick bc he was quite literally not human. but even still, demons also can’t fully understand yusuke. he’s entirely unique in that regard, an unstoppable force of nature and your childhood friend flashing you a cheeky grin from down the street. and that isolation is nothing new for yusuke as well bc well that’s how he’s always lived, and even tho it makes him miserable bc he craves connection and understanding he repeatedly buts himself thru it bc it feels safer than vulnerability. better the devil you know. i love yusuke IM SO ILL OVER THIS SHOW

okay now i’m just getting into team urameshi rants um. anyway yes kuwameshi right my silly little guys. they deserve to have a big gay wedding where instead of kissing they punch each other in the eye. they understand each other in a way no one else rlly can and i just. i adore them so bad it’s terminal.

the codependency-> healthy relationship thing really has me thinking abt like. kuwabara and keiko right. just how they parallel each other so intensely throughout the show. like, kuwabara and yusuke’s relationship is Frequently used as a point of comparison in the shows plot (cough cough sensui and itsuki cough cough TOGURO AND GENKAI) but the specific similarities and contrasts between kuwabara and keiko make me wanna hurl, esp after yusuke leaves for makai. bc then kuwabara’s in keiko’s shoes, filling in that role of the jilted lover right alongside her. and yk the “lover” part is largely just my own interpretation, i don’t think togashi was like. secretly tryna rep the gays or anything (tho in the very unlikely circumstance he was, pop off king.) but STILL it’s suspect. idk i think kuwabara and keiko should be friends and bond but hey maybe that’s my keiko bias. i’m very attached to her JWJFISJDO.
