#I'm sorry everyone but there's no way farcille is happening before labru does <- you are so right and you should say it. most people deeply overestimate marcille's ability to get out of her own way.

Not to diminish Marcille's growth throughought the series nor anything, but the fact she's ready to start unpacking her coping mechanisms with denying death (which includes her treatment of Falin) doesn't mean it'll happen like, right away, esp the scariest parts like romance. Although I personally think Falin's inability to push back has a lot to do with the last few years being the Toudens trying to make ends meet and her trying to take care of Laios, so maybe she's ready to start. pushing a little ;)

But good luck pushing someone who wants to lend 24 volumes of the Daltian clan to her friends in attempt to make them study romance (I feel oddly reminiscent of me trying to make others read one piece)

Meanwhile Kabru and Laios are still getting closer but I think the scariest part is over. What's left is for Kabru to get the funniest possible revelation that, after doing all that for humanity and then to be someone's sincere friend, he actually wants to fuc-

4 and/or 6 for the fic rec game?

Well here's to tag games that make me re-read and re-appreciate fanfics I haven't considerd for a while!

4) a fic starring a character with less than 100 works

So my first reaction was "ah shit, I don't actually hang out in niche fandoms" or at least not in fandoms niche enough to be uncommon, but popular enough to still have fics about them. But then I remembered that I also sometimes care for some random Just Some Guy side character who tangentily bears witness to canon's absurd madness and is just left to sit with it for the rest of the story while the main characters resolve all the Important Stuff. (Like FMA's Denny Brosh). I maintain that Dirk Gently's (HDA) Estevez is technically a main character and it's a crime how he's treated both in canon (the last 5 minutes of season 1 never happened, right?) and fanworks (he just isn't there vv). Luckily, there is one fic out there that hits all my buttons exactly on how his story really should've gone, feat similarly underrated teen billionaire ex-dog legend Lydia Spring. There's a spin-off in there about them somewhere.

6. a fic that made you laugh/cry

Ohh, which ones haven't, really. In terms of incredibly funny pure delight, there's a reason "tomorrow isn't always another day" is a mp100 fandom classic (it is, right?? It's gotta be).

I cry easily at fiction, so I can't run out of fics to rec here, so I'll rec one I've read recently: "if I don't make the voyage home" is a one piece fic about the letters the Straw Hats' write for their loved ones in case of their demise. With a premise like that, who wouldn't cry?

"he's being shuffled away from the "boring" parts of kingship to the fun monster interactions" Even in it's intention, that's interestingly imperfect in its execution, btw. He doesn't get to taste anything in his dream, which would be a big part of the fun, because the winged lion can't reproduce any taste. And in his walk, Laios actually stumbles upon an "imperfection" - the guy being beaten for crimes. He's seen seriously considering the solution, even. This is the one scene that makes me think maybe the lion is perceptive enough to know that Laios would think deeper than "it's fun"; otherwise, he tries to convince Laios that this is everything he wants.

It can see the pieces that make Laios, but he can't really... put them together? It even seems a little put off by Laios' resistance, and adjusts its speech as it goes, and overall doesn't seem to care about Laios above a means to an end.

Also. This is hilarious and cements to me that the winged lion is effective but not all-knowing

As a last thought, I really think that Laios focusing on logistics to not let dark thoughts linger is legit a good coping mechanism. Perhaps it speaks of his avoidant nature as well, but you gotta have something for when solutions are beyond your control and you starts spiralling. And it works specially well [ENDING SPOILERS] when he has to recalibrate and focus on food as special interest when he can't be with monsters anymore

oh that was a liveblog, thank god you cleared that off for me before I babbled. I didn't want to possibly spoil them, but that's an angle I've never seen before. I'm 100% of the opinion it's the lion's doing tho, and they're fussing over him bc they're the people closest to him. I do think it's curious how this Falin seems touchier with Marcille than real Falin

oh, 100% it's the lion's doing. i do think it's an overstatement to say they're parenting him; it's more that they are acting in prototypical ways. he wants them doing what makes them happiest, and from his perspective that involves a degree of fretting over him and what he's doing

the bit that really grabbed my attention though, it's that he's being shuffled away from the "boring" parts of kingship to the fun monster interactions to seduce him into accepting ~~his destiny~~

but actually that's an early indicator that not even the guy who can literally read his mind and sniff out his desires actually understands Laios (although on second thought, Laios' succubus was like... a pretty big hint of that too)

he actually says it himself in the fight with Thistle, he finds dealing with logistics and the pragmatic realities of survival soothing; it's something he's good at. it's certainly not the juicy stuff of fantasies, but it's something that centers his mind

which leads me to post-canon (beefier spoilers under the cut)

in cursing him to become a living monster repellent, the lion thought he was dooming Laios to the opposite of his dream - the boring aspects of running a kingdom without the "good parts." but actually, most of his dream kingdom does come true! Falin is happy and healthy, Marcille is his trusted advisor, demi-humans are accepted in society and he is ensuring that no one goes hungry on his watch. there might even be plant monster farming going on in the outskirts.
