Who doesn’t love crispy appetisers? When it comes to non-veg options, chicken finger foods are some of the most popular ones. Although other types of meat and fish can also be used, chicken remains a common choice. Why? Because they are easy to prepare and also experiment with. Many chicken finger foods are deep-fried to a crisp brown colour. Inside, they have a range of delicious fillings and…

We’re out eating our way through the @lostinabuja12 + MasterCard Restaurant Week! For lunch we went to @annsabujaa to try their set menu and we haven’t been since the renovation so this was fun. The space feels very light, very clean and very comfortable. I’m not sure why it felt like the waiters were a bit reluctant to share the restaurant week menu with us 🫠 but as soon as we pointed to one of the RW notes on the table, we saw their lunch menu offerings and they were pretty good. We got tiger prawns and the crispy chicken wings and these were very good. The prawns were actually hot which was pleasantly surprising because they’re served like dynamite shrimps 😂 All around, a good appetiser experience! ₦12,000 (Lunch Menu)  #MCRW2022 #MastercardRestaurantWeek #LostinaCity #RefreshedbyHeineken #food #abuja #foodanddrink #photography #nigeria #instagrammers #restaurants #review #restaurantreview #igers #instagood #photooftheday #foodporn #picoftheday #instalike #instadaily #instafood #foodie #delicious #yummy #instacool #foodstagram #dinner #foodblogger #beautiful #photographer (at Abuja, Nigeria) https://www.instagram.com/p/ClHAeUcjQSx/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

大家好! Once in awhile, I'm tempted by a promo fastfood item; McDonald's has them from time to time but the latest honey butter shaker fries weren't a hit with our biggest potato lover, SW, so I gave them a miss. Pizza Hut's Hut Melts though, I had to try. Because they looked very greasy, SW and I shared a set - 2 pieces of Hut Melts, wings and we ordered some fried cheese and garlic too. First impressions when our food arrived - erm, no vibrant colour, save for the tomato sauce.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
youtube
Taste-wise, those cheesy parcels are delicious. Once we sunk our teeth into the crispy shells and gooey stretchy cheese, all the other dishes seemed mediocre. Thank goodness SW and I decided to share the meal, otherwise we might have suffered from food coma! There you have it, my first visit to Pizza Hut in many years, and I enjoyed it. Will I eat it again - possibly if a friend wants to have it, but not if I'm the one deciding where to eat.
Tumblr media
Onto coffee, a new chain opened in our country this year. SW and I toasted our friendship with our yummy icy brews. We chatted about the Titan submersible saga, which Grace, Douglas and I also discussed during our catch up. The simulation video showing how the vessel could have imploded was horrifying; I'm not sharing it because we found it disturbing. A silver lining would probably be that bereaved families have closure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was happy to return to moderately healthy meals after visiting Pizza Hut; vibrant colours from veggies really make a difference and my food looks more appetising. In the first pic, the stall had pumpkin, green beans with pork mince as well as green beans with squid and shrimp, so I had to have all 3! In the second pic, besides assam fish and fuyong dan (veggie omelette), I chose okra and broccoli.
Tumblr media
Do I eat nuts and seeds - yes, in moderation. Braised peanut and chicken congee as well as braised peanut, chicken and lotus soup are very delicious. Like tofu, nuts complement animal protein (kung po chicken is an example) and like fruit, they're nutritious snacks when I'm hungry in between meals and don't want to affect my appetite for a hearty lunch or dinner. Too much causes pimples on my scalp and the back of my neck, a sign of inflammation (oils are oils after all, healthy fats or not), so I don't overeat them. I don't earn a cent from promoting certain types of food over others since I'm not an influencer so yeah, I'm not biased where what is nutritious is concerned; I just share what I know and the telltale signs of inflammation to family, close friends and I.

We went to an restaurant called Casa De Fuego it is a restaurant in the city Split in Croatia.
Tumblr media
As appetiser we had Nachos, at first they where a little salty but after a few of the nachos the salty taste was gone. But they were a delicious starter to start your meal.
Tumblr media
As main course we burrito's. All of us had the same one and they were soooo tasty, the chicken was very juicy so not dry at all. There where many vegetables and they where all very fresh and good. On top of it was so much cheese on the burrito it was so creamy and yummy and we think this is one of the best burritos we ever ate.
Tumblr media
As dessert we had some churros they where very sweet and it tasted like you where in heaven, at the beginning they where so hot but that's okay because they where very very very tasty.
btw we all where drinking water during all courses to stay healthy with atleast the drinks😉. If you go to here you can chose any drink you want lol.
Have fun!

La Comida: A Typical Spanish Spread in Lunch for Gastronomic Delight
The concept of lunch in Spain is quite different from the rest of the world and particularly America. The Spanish call the large mid-day meal la comida and it includes a number of courses. You’ll be served at least 5 to 6 courses in succession including dessert. But of course, says a private chef in London working at a renowned eatery that serves Spanish dishes, Spaniards do not eat such fancy lunches every day. It’s not difficult imagining that investing such lengthy time and effort in preparing lunch is just not possible on weekdays.
Yet a la comida will include a pasta dish or soup, meat and/or fish, salad and a dessert. Desserts usually include fruit or cheese. In the following paragraphs, let’s try drawing a picture in words how a typical Spanish lunch looks like.
The courses in a typical Spanish lunch
Entrantes or appetisers: You may have already picked up that appetisers are called entrants in Spanish. These are very simple dishes to begin a meal with. Common entrants include a plate of Serrano ham or any other cured meat and cheese. Tapas are also appetisers but they’re different from entrants.
One of the common entrants is pan con tomate. It can be translated to something called tomato bread in English and a typical la comida has to start with it. Crusty bread is first toasted and then rubbed with a pinch of garlic and ripe tomato. Lastly, it is drizzled with olive oil.
Another common starter dish is melon con jamon.  It is easy to prepare at home and tastes both sweet and salty. The main ingredients include Serrano ham and skewered honeydew.
Primero or Primer Plato: Spanish culinary is so popular that these days you can easily hire a private chef at home in London. These professional chefs tell us Primero or Primer Plato is the first course and usually comprises many dishes. A soup made of fish or shellfish called sopa de pescado y marisco; a vegetable dish made from mushrooms, asparagus, artichokes sautéed with ham and such other ingredients.
Pescados or fish: After the Primero is served, it’s the turn of pescados or fish. Spaniards eat fish as well as shellfish like clamps and shrimps. The fish is either cooked with sauce or rice and can even be grilled or baked. It may be noted here that the Spanish people just love all kinds of seafood. Rape al limon is a very popular dish, which can be best described as fish in lemon juice. Pescado Frito Con Salsa De Cebolla is fish cooked in onion sauce. It is also worth trying out paella de marisco – a tasty dish comprising of seafood rice.  Bacalao con tomate is cod fish with tomato sauce – another popular delicacy.
Carnes or meat: Spanish culinary includes a wide variety of meats including beef fillets, steak, filet mignon, pork loin, roast lamb and even roast suckling pig. Apart from red meat, Spanish culinary also includes game birds like partridge and quail. In winters, a Spanish table spread includes dishes like fabada Asturiana and cocido Madrileno. The second dish originated in Madrid and includes various parts of beef, chicken, pig, sausage, pasta, vegetables and garbanzo beans. Even the dish of rabbit stew in tomato sauce is very popular. It is called estofado de conejo.
Postre or desserts: It has already been mentioned above that a Spanish lunch is never complete without desserts. They call desserts postre. After having the lengthy courses mentioned above, obviously it’s easier to skip the dessert part. But Spanish desserts are so yummy that you just won’t be able to waive it away, assures Nicolás Lucero, the renowned Spanish chef in London associated with My Spanish Chef. It is relevant mentioning, My Spanish Chef offers private chef service across London and nearby areas.
Spanish desserts include freshly cut seasonal fruits like peaches in red wine and flan – custard in caramel sauce. There are also different types of ice cream and ice cream cakes. Last but never the least, there will be espresso coffee to help your stomach digest all the lip-smacking items that went down as lunch easily.

Hihi all except warmongers, 大家好! Day 4 of my block leave was the usual weekly catch up with Grace and Douglas. Meatball is teething, so he was a little cranky at first. Soothing him is quite easy; just speak to him very gently and within minutes from a sulky toddler ready to bawl his eyes out at the drop of a hat, Meatball became docile and let me stroke him. After another short while, he was back to his mischief.
On Day 5, I met LL, a dear friend and an expat from China. Previously she introduced me to a face mask sheet that really makes the skin glow. I shared about it some time back. I've been using it since. A few weeks ago, LL informed that they now have foam cleansers. I didn't hesitate and bought 1 to try. I'll share my views about it once my usual brand is used up and I start on this new one.
Tumblr media
LL asked where we should meet. I felt like stuffing myself with juicy dumplings, so we went with an international favourite - 鼎泰丰 (Din Tai Fung). I went over to her residential area to do some exploring. There are 2 malls nearby; we chose the less crowded one because social distancing.
Tumblr media
With expat friends from China, we share the custom of filling the table (in our case, overflowing to the next table) with dishes. These weren't all that we had. See immediately below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nothing is more appetising than juicy steamed dumplings. We had the signature 小笼包 (xiaolongbao, steamed pork broth dumplings). The correct way to eat this is to gently bite the top, suck up the delicious broth, add shredded ginger in vinegar to the pork filling and devour. YUM! Next, we had prawn and pork dumplings. We dipped them into a flavourful chilli oil. Dumpling craving satisfied.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the other dishes, we had 小菜 (mixed veggie salad), 上海醉鸡 (drunken chicken), both of which I'd shared before in a previous post so I won't rehash the details. The last dish is particularly yummy. 红油炒手 (wantons with black vinegar and chilli oil) are a perfect mix of tangy and mild spiciness that whets the appetite.
youtube
In order to stay safe during this festive season, we didn't linger for long after the meal. Even though catch ups are shorter than they used to be, I'm thankful that Delta infections are lower and it's safer to go out during my block leave. I'd rather stay positive and be thankful for a better situation than complain about not reopening fast enough.
youtube
Always look on the bright side of life, right? We'll be happier this way. Till the next time, 下次见!

Bath holidays: Where are the best hotels in Bath? Top accommodation revealed | Short & City breaks | Travel
Tumblr media
Bath is the World Heritage Site mainly built from gorgeous local, golden-coloured Bath Stone (Image: Getty Images/The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa/ The Queensbury)
Bath is a city where I have decided I could quite easily live. For starters, it’s beautiful. Not only is the World Heritage Site mainly built from gorgeous local, golden-coloured Bath Stone, it’s also surrounded by rolling green hills which are visible from the town as you look up. It’s also easily walkable yet crammed with culture and, importantly for me, easy to get to from neighbouring Bristol, London, and Birmingham. This makes it an ideal choice for a weekend break. If you’re after an indulgent UK holiday and looking to treat yourself, these are three of the top hotels to stay in – The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa, The Queensbury and No.15 Great Pulteney.
Bath holidays: Where are the best hotels in Bath? Top accommodation revealed
Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa
The problem with staying at The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa is that you may never want to actually leave it. A wall of elegance practically smashes into you as you walk in and there’s an instant feeling you’ll get looked after.
Located in the middle of the famous and iconic Royal Crescent, the hotel actually stretches far beyond the buildings you see on entrance. An acre of stunning gardens lies behind, offering an oasis of tranquillity after a day of sightseeing. Further accommodation and the restaurant as well as the spa are found at the other end of the garden making for a very quiet night’s sleep indeed.
Our room is the Lord Nelson Suite – the famous military figure once stayed in Bath – and busts and paintings of the great man adorn the room as a nod to the theme amid the grey neutral tones. Ornate lamps and colourful cushions add a pop of colour.
In the spacious living room area – separated off from the bedroom with a curtain – is a fireplace and a bookcase filled with a variety of interesting tomes, creating a homely touch amid the luxury. French windows open out onto a spacious balcony which looks over the garden and the odd guest below. One can feel very regal from such a position – although no Romeo (or Knightley, Darcy or Tilney for that matter) came a-calling, alas (remember, there’s always the Jane Austen Centre…)
When we are first shown to our room there’s a brief moment when we think we’re told there’s complimentary cheese which would make it officially the world’s best establishment, but it transpires the lady actually said complimentary teas which, for a Briton, is still pretty exciting. We order one immediately. It’s only a few moments we realise one explanation for our sense of peace – Classic FM is playing from bedside speakers and it’s the addition I never realised I needed – my life finally has a soundtrack.
The little touches don’t stop there, pillow spray is provided with the turndown service, newspapers are offered and there’s an umbrella in the wardrobe complete with a tag letting you know what you can do in Bath in the rain. Furthermore, there’s also a car parking spot for every room should you need it.
Tumblr media

Meanwhile, the stylish bathroom provides his n’ her sinks, sumptuous products by British perfumer Floris plus a bath and shower – the controls for which are conveniently placed the opposite side from the water flow which means never getting wet until you’ve got in, which is a surprising bonus.
We dine in the hotel’s Dower House Restaurant and our table benefits from a view of the secluded garden as the spring evening draws in. The friendly and knowledgeable waiters prove invaluable in helping me decide on my order (it all looks so good) and the sommelier suggests a delightful Sauvignon Blanc.
Turmeric and black pepper bread sets a promising tone for the meal before I tuck into my starter of slow cooked duck egg. It’s huge, rich and creamy and pairs well with the salty Morteau sausage, and crunchy leeks and chicken crisp – all in all, superb.
This is followed by roasted seabass, served with two perky scallops prettily presented with beetroot, tasty morsels of smoked eel, hay baked potato, smoked roe cream and horseradish. The portions may seem small at first but I soon have “elegant sufficiency” as my grandmother used to say and decide on a brief hiatus ahead of dessert.
This is wise and dessert is, unsurprisingly, also delicious. I opt for rhubarb and orange tart with ginger ice cream, the tangy favours of which all perfectly complement each other. My friend goes for the cheese board – well there had to be cheese somewhere didn’t there? This is presented by a rather handsome waiter who informs us he is responsible for buying the cheeses in, and his enthusiasm is palpable as he explains each one to us. One nugget we learn is that the ash in the rind of goat’s cheese is supposed to aid digestion – but after the feast we’ve had I’m not sure there’s much hope for us.
We heave ourselves up and take a turn around the garden before retiring for the night, thoroughly pampered and satisfied.
The next morning we make the most of The Spa & Bath House. I do a few lengths in the 12m heated pool (where the glistening blue tiles shimmer like a mermaid’s tail), try out the Vitality Pool and sauna before heading for a massage.
The spa’s primary partner brand is Elemental Herbology whose products are based around the Five Element theory from traditional Chinese medicine. My therapist considers my skin type, lifestyle, environment and season and opts for Earth for balance. I have chosen a Deep Muscle Melt full-body massage which uses the oils as well as hot stones – although the spa menu offers so many other wonderful-looking options it is hard to decide. My therapist’s small hands dig deep into my muscles and work through knots on my back in what makes for a very stress-relieving and relaxing hour before I return to my room, take tea on the balcony and prepare to leave this haven of luxury.
Double Deluxe rooms at The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa start from £330 on a B&B basis. To book, please email [email protected] or call Spa Reception on 01225 823333

Bath holidays: An acre of stunning gardens lies behind the facade of The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa (Image: The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa)
The Queensbury
The Queensberry Hotel may not have the grand scale decadence of The Royal Crescent but this boutique hotel is every bit as lovely and is right the heart of the city, making it perfect for exploring Bath on your doorstep.
The hotel is both chic and trendy but not in a threatening way; the interior design is particularly exciting. The bathroom in our room boasts a wall decorated entirely with goldfish-covered wallpaper, the orange and blue tones of which inject a quirky edge into the accommodation as does the gold grouting between the white tiles. There’s also a free standing bath in there and fabulous White Company products. It’s all rather like staying at the house of a particularly fashionable friend.
One little touch I particularly like is the little, dim bathroom lights that automatically come on into dark should you need to make your way to the toilet in the night. All hotels please take heed of this! A marvellous concept and a rousing thumbs up to whoever’s idea it was. What’s more, Classic FM is also playing when we enter here, too which is proving a charming theme of my stay so far.
It’s the Michelin-starred restaurant in this delightful townhouse which is the true gem of the establishment, however. If you’re after an excellent meal, the 3 AA Rosette Olive Tree restaurant is the ideal spot – it’s certainly the best one I’ve had in a long time.
I go all out and order the larger of the two tasting menus, otherwise known as the ‘Chris Cleghorn Seven’, with paired wines. Things start exceedingly well with a cheese-filled profiterole appetiser – an ingenious morsel of pleasure – before a raw Orkney scallop is presented in its pretty shell for a starter. It’s succulent and juicy thanks to the tangy pink grapefruit granita along with a kick from the horseradish. This is paired with a Galician Rías Baixas white wine before I’m served a Lebanese rosé with my second course of burrata – not that this is the Italian cheese as I’ve ever known it. This is burrata ice cream, churned and frozen but still creamy with the saltiness of green olives with tomatoes and a basil sauce.

Bath holidays: The Queensberry Hotel is both chic and trendy but not in a threatening way (Image: The Queensberry )
Onto the first of the mains – Turbot on the bone which is like consuming a cloud it’s so soft and tender, pairing perfectly with the crunch of asparagus and buttery sauce, along with shrimp, salted lemon and sherry. To go with this is is the best Chardonnay I’ve ever tasted – an Astrolabe Province Marlborough Chardonnay 2015 which knocked my socks off; both nutty and creamy it went hand in hand with the turbot perfectly.
We move onto the second main of oh-so-succulent Woolley Park Farm duck served with duck liver on a tiny sliver of toast along with barbecued beetroot, sea beet, hazelnut and blackcurrant – all paired with a rich South African merlot.
The first dessert is a soft Tor cheese with soaked golden raisins and chicory with a Jurançon 2016 rosé before moving onto a (highly unusual but incredibly delicious) tobacco-flavoured ice cream which comes with chunks of aero-style chocolate and a chocolate parfait – rounded off with a divine Graham’s 2013 port.
By this point, I’m frankly sozzled and stuffed. I squeeze in a yummy raspberry and ice cream concoction before I throw in the towel. No way can I face the proffered coffee and petit fours although I have no doubt they’re just as delectable as everything else in the feast. We began our meal at 8.15pm and it is now 12.30pm. It’s definitely time to leave. Any plans we have of going out are shattered – as are we.
Our waiter throughout the evening has been the charming Jake who we find out is a mere 22. This appears to be a theme of the restaurant – most of the servers look as though they could be about to sit their A-Levels – but this doesn’t seem to affect the running of the place. Jake himself is incredibly knowledgeable and seems to know all there is to know about the wines he studiously explains to us. I also overhear him taking care to find out the needs and desires of the couple next to us so he can advise them suitably.
The restaurant appears to be doing a roaring trade and is filled with customers, creating a buzzy atmosphere for the Saturday night. This is particularly impressive given how unassuming The Olive Tree is from the outside – but it really is a true gem worth checking out. Not to be missed!

No 15 Great Pulteney
Great Pulteney Street is the widest and grandest in the city of Bath so it stands to reason that No 15 Great Pulteney is also rather grand. It is also, however, completely bonkers.
This eccentric hotel –  self-proclaimedly “luxury for the curious” – is packed full of character which one might never guess judging from its chic Georgian townhouse exterior in complete uniformity with the entire street. Inside, the decor is so quirky it leaves your scratching your head. There’s a collection of kaleidoscopes in the hallway, a bizarre selection of dog figurines on one stairway and military memorabilia crowding the bottom of a staircase. The latter even features a soldier mannequin which, when first I spot it out of the corner of my eye, nearly makes me jump out of my skin. You have been warned!
In fact, no staircase in the same here: one has models of anthropomorphised pigs, another old cameras and a third huge perfume bottles. The thought that must have gone into the design is mind-boggling.
Our room on the top floor is lovely and while not so ostensibly idiosyncratic as the communal areas, there’s still something undeniably Bohemian. Our lamp shade drips in beads, mirrors with weaved frames sit above the bed’s headboard and a large, black sheep serves as a chair. These quirks don’t stop the hotel form providing all the mod cons, however, judging by the Dyson hairdryer and fan plus enormous TV with Sky.
From our window, we can see the roofs of all the stunning Georgian houses on the streets, the famous rugby grounds and even the abbey if I crane my head – all backed by the glorious Somerset countryside.

Bath holidays: The Dispensary comes complete with extensive wooden drawers labelled for herbs (Image: No 15 Great Pulteney)
An inventive addition to the hotel’s set-up is The Larder which peckish guests can raid whenever they want. While I am there it stocks help-yourself supplies of milk, ice cream, yoghurts, water, cans of fizzy drinks, old fashioned sweets plus flapjacks and brownies. It’s gloriously like a tuck shop and my inner schoolgirl lights up with the glee at the idea of plundering it for free (before my adult self remembers my straining jeans).
Before dinner, we head for a drink at the hotel’s Bar 15 which promises ‘creative liquid libations.’ I opt for a classic No 15 Champagne cocktail and settle back to see what eccentric delights reside in the bar. I am not disappointed. Our table is utterly bedecked with blue beads and jewellery and topped with glass, the huge paintings on the wall come to life with bizarre protrusions and little 3D editions of classic novels such as The Water Babies feature enchanting cut-outs of characters on the front covers.
I’m more taken with the restaurant, however. Aptly named The Dispensary, the room goes the whole hog with the theme, complete with extensive wooden drawers labelled for herbs, antiquated glass bottles of all colours lined again the wall and even old talcum powder containers.
There’s a nod to the actual function of the restaurant as well thanks to such features as a stove, complete with cast iron pots and a wall boasting every type of whisk you could possibly imagine.
The food is tasty too. I enjoy a starter of hake goujons – which are fresh and delicious – before a crispy duck salad washed down with a South African Cabernet Sauvignon. I finish with an utterly indulgent sticky toffee pudding (with top-notch fudge sauce) and a paired dessert wine.

Sometimes I think of spring rolls at 11am in the morning because regardless of what I have for lunch, I’m ordering a side of this crunchy appetiser to it! The vegetable spring rolls (they have chicken and prawn too) in @muzikitchenng reminds me of the ones they used to serve in the Mirage Hotel Chinese Restaurant in Calabar. So. If you read my last post, you know I loved Punta Cana! It has already secured a spot on my “must visit” list for the Caribbean (you already know Jamaica is clearly numero uno!).
Tumblr media
Now that you know everything you need to plan your perfect Punta Cana vacay, I’m here to tell you how to make the most of your trip. This is the ultimate guide on what to do, where to go, what/where to eat and what to wear (or really, what I wore).
WHAT TO DO
GO TO THE BEACH As someone who lives on an island, you’d be surprised how infrequently I visit the beach (it really is a shame!). Whether you stay at a hotel or a villa, there’s bound to be a private beach somewhere.
Tumblr media
We enjoyed our time at Juanillo Beach! The beach itself was clean, the water was clear and the staff was polite. Unlike some beach spots, chairs/loungers were free of cost once you can get one (the staff will assist in this). There’s also a restaurant right there on the beach, but I’ll get into that later on…
Some other great beaches to check out include Macao Beach, Playa Esmeraldo, Montaña Redonda and Bavaro Beach.
GET A MASSAGE! Punta Cana is well known for their top notch spas! Take full advantage of your vacation and get a little rest and relaxation in a calming, beautiful atmosphere. Some recommended spots are Sanctuary Salon & Spa, Secrets Spa by Pevonia, SM Wellness, solaya-spa, and Tiara Cap Cana Barbor Spa
DAY TRIP TO SAONA ISLAND If you checked out the PDF document I posted in my last blog, you’ll see that this day trip was listed as one of the activities. I’m going to try not to scandal the company that pretty much screwed us over didn’t allow us to book this excursion, but whenever I go back to DR, this is a must-do!
Tumblr media
https://bestvacationstours.com/en/producto/isla-saona-punta-cana-bavaro/
You can pre-book the excursion online (check TripAdvisor or Expedia), through your hotel or at various shops in Bavaro. They usually include transportation from your hotel to the catamaran. The catamaran then takes you to one of the largest Dominican islands, where you can relax on the white sand beach, swim in crystal clear water and feast your eyes on the various flora and fauna on the island. The trip will also include a Dominican buffet lunch on the island.
I feel like I need to hurry and plan my next trip just to experience this.
SCAPE PARK AT CAP CANA
Tumblr media
http://puntacananow.com/juanillo-vip-cap-cana-day-by-scape-park-juanillo-vip-cap-cana-day
Scape Park is Punta Cana’s natural theme park with various adventures, activities and entertaining experiences. For $149 USD (includes transportation), you can experience the Hoyo Azul Eco Tour, Zip line, Saltos Azules, Cultural Route, Cave Swim, Iguabonita Cave, Iguanaland, a Domincan buffet and so much more!
Tumblr media
This was such an amazing experience! You can stay there all day, but we really only needed a few hours to get our money’s worth. We visited Iguanaland (omg I touched an iguana! See below), did the ziplining from a cliff (this is a whole workout – you have to literally hike up a hill – but it was my first time zip lining and such an awesome experience), zip line eco splash, the cultural route (learn about the discovery of DR and check out some cultural artefacts), and the cave swim (the water was freezing but it felt so good – such a relief after all that physical activity). We also saw some tropical birds and monkeys!
Tumblr media
The only downside is that you have to pay for all your pictures. Despite the warnings, we were allowed to take our cameras in and snap some pictures, but pictures with the monkeys and on the zip lines must be purchased (for ridiculous prices!)
Tumblr media
Be sure to carry cash to tip the tour guides and to purchase fresh fruit popsicles. Those were so yummy and refreshing in the heat.
COCO BONGO We didn’t have space for this on our itinerary but I regret not fitting it in. After already having locations in Cancun and Playa del Carmen, Coco Bongo can now be found in Punta Cana. It is a mix of a night club experience and a variety show production that provides entertainment to a wide range of audiences. You can buy the tickets in advance from their website, which gives you options for seating, inclusive drinks and area access.
Tumblr media
https://www.puntacanatickets.com/product/coco-bongo-disco/
IMAGINE NIGHTCLUBThis club did make it to our itinerary, however, it seems we overestimated our youth lol. We opted to go to sleep instead of clubbing after dinner but from what I’ve heard, this is definitely a hotspot in Punta Cana – it’s a night club in a cave for goodness sake! They’re open Thursday to Sunday with a different musical theme for each night and various drinks-inclusive options. Be sure to check it out!

INDIGENOUS EYES ECOLOGICAL PARK AND RESERVEThis is another spot that didn’t fit into our schedule, but is a must-visit if you love nature or just enjoy swimming in fresh-water lagoons (they have 5 you can swim in!). You can learn a lot about the reserve’s various projects, explore the exhibits and take a rejuvenating dip in the gorgeous, clear water. For more info, check out their website.
  WHERE TO EAT
Tumblr media
As a foodie, I’m always scouring websites trying to figure out where has great menus before going to a new spot. I love Hispanic food so I was very excited to see what DR had to offer. I can safely say they love pasta dishes with pink sauce, plantains and sushi – we saw these items on almost every menu.
I had a ridiculous list of places to try out that I narrowed down for my itinerary, so I’ll list and give my feedback on the ones we actually went to, and suggest some others that didn’t make the cut.
VALE VALENTINA
Tumblr media
This was the first restaurant we tried (literally out of buck-ups because we were too tired to go elsewhere after a day of traveling) and it was so good we went back for breakfast on our last day. Found in Punta Cana Village, it is a great spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The service was great, the food was delicious and the ambiance is lovely! For dinner, we tried the Crispy Shrimps (appetiser), hot chicken vodka pasta, pepperoni pizza, bacon roasted chicken pesto pizza and the Valentina roll. Everything was delicious – especially the Valentina roll! Sweet plantain on a sushi roll?! Everywhere should do this! We also had huge glasses of sangria that were super yummy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The portions are big and the prices are pretty affordable too – all that food and cocktails came to about $120USD! And we all went home with leftovers 😁. You can check out the menu here.
On our last day, we wanted to experience real Dominican breakfast, and it was clearly destined for us to return to Vale, because as we walked around the village, another tourist highly recommended we check them out for breakfast. We definitely didn’t regret it!
Tumblr media
Traditional Dominican breakfast, El Criollito, consists of mangù de plátanos verdes y guineítos (Dominican mashed green plantains with butter topped with sautéed pickled red onions), fried cheese and Dominican salami. It was a bit salty for me (a lot of Dominican food seems salt-heavy, especially the cured meats – saltiest bacon I’ve ever had), but it was still delicious.
Tumblr media
We also got great cappuccinos that come with a cute heart-shaped sugar cookie – highly recommend. They also offer continental breakfast options such as avocado toast, pancakes, eggs and bagels. We each got the same thing (el criollito, a side of bacon and a cappuccino) and the total was about $60USD. Once again, be sure to check this spot out!
TACO’S TRUCK
Tumblr media
I love tacos, like loveeee tacos, but this place is no bueno! While it wasn’t on the itinerary, we chose the stop there after scape park for something to tie us over until dinner time (it’s located at Sanctuary Cap Cana in Juanillo Beach) and we really could’ve missed this. First of all, dem tief they are ridiculously overpriced – $25USD for 6 small tacos! Secondly, both the chicken and beef tacos were so bland, I was wondering if they forgot to add seasoning. The only good thing was the salsa they serve with a little chips on the side – and we had to fight over that because they give you a half a teaspoon of salsa 😠. This is definitely an overpriced, overrated tourist trap – 2/10, would not recommend.
Tumblr media
CITRUS RESTAURANT AND LOUNGE
First of all, Justine-Renee and I are still waiting on our pumpkin bisque to come…
After reading great reviews about this place, I chose it for our Friday night dinner spot despite being a whole 40 minutes away from Cap Cana (it’s in Bavaro). Upon entering the restaurant, which was cute – live music going and a great ambiance, we were blatantly stared down like this isn’t a tourist area (but I understand everyone ain’t ready for the staycation vibe). To start, we ordered soup – Christine and Tami got the pumpkin bisque; JRJ and I ketch hype ordered the lobster bisque. The lobster bisque smelled awful (think of that raw scent out by backroad Portmore) and if that taste had a smell – it was in the bowl in front of me. Usually I can just suck it up and eat it but no – this soup was bad. We sent the soup back and it was apparently the worst thing we could’ve ever done. Even the chef came out to ask what the problem was and tried to tell us “it’s a man’s soup” – whatever that means. We then had to deal with other staff inquiring as to why the soup was sent back – one big fuss. We then ordered the pumpkin bisque to replace the lobster mess: the chef even gave us tiny spoons to try the pumpkin bisque at the table. Listen… ALL NOW THE SOUP CANNOT REACH. It’s like they said “screw y’all” and threw the whole soup order away. We waited and waited until all that was brought to us was our entrees. No bueno. Anywho, I had the chicken breast stuffed with plantains and cheese, and a sushi roll topped with plantain (still delicious). The food was meh – not bad but not a must-try, and the service was not good at all (except our clearly frighten waiter – he was sweet). The cost isn’t bad – food and cocktails came to about $110USD. 6/10 from me!
  API BEACH
Tumblr media
This spot was actually recommended by our host, Carlos, and I’m so glad it was. We went for my birthday brunch 🎉 instead of the spot on the itinerary because it’s actually in Cap Cana and the other place was 45 minutes away.
Tumblr media
First of all, the view of the beach is beautiful to look at  hile you eat. The staff were also really pleasant and helpful, and the food and cocktails were delicious! For appetisers, we had the crispy shrimp, api fingers and arepas. For entrees, we had the API burger, the Monty burger and the Bondi burger. I started drinking before we even got there (birthday lituation) so I can’t remember what cocktails we had but they were also wonderful! Everything here was great! It’s a little pricy (the bill was like $250), but it is a touristy spot so we weren’t surprised. You can check out their menu here.
Tumblr media
MONTSERRAT MANOR
Found at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, this was our fine dining splurge restaurant for the trip. We celebrated my birthday with dinner at this beautiful Japanese-Peruvian fusion restaurant. The restaurant is very chic and stylish, and the staff were amazing! We loved every second of this dining experience! For starters, we had crispy shrimp and beef tacos – hello! delicious! For the main course, I had the lamb chops with pumpkin puree and vegetable fried rice.
Tumblr media
Like all fine dining restaurants, the portions were relatively small (but filling) and pricey $$$$. Their cocktail menu was a bit too much for me (the drinks are overwhelming mixes with peppers and plantain syrup – too much for me), but you can order any regular cocktail despite it not being listed – I had a mojito. They also brought out a little birthday treat with chocolates and sang me happy birthday in Spanish and English. 10/10 – would highly recommend!
Tumblr media
LITTLE JOHN AT JUANILLO BEACH One perk of going to Juanillo Beach is this delicious restaurant. I actually wish I went there on an empty stomach to have been able to try more things on the menu. The staff is friendly, the food is reasonably priced and it’s delicious! We had great pizza and chicken fingers here. The only issue I had here was the Pina colada – it was a bit too sweet for me. Definitely recommend checking this place out!
Tumblr media
JELLYFISH RESTAURANT I would love to tell you about the delicious seafood we had here and the beautiful view of the ocean, however, despite making a reservation before we even left Jamaica, and driving 40 minutes to this place, we were informed at the gate that they couldn’t let us in because there was a private function – thank you, NEXT.
BALICANA ASIAN CUISINE
Tumblr media
After being denied entry by Jellyfish Restaurant, this Asian, Thai, Indonesian restaurant came to save the day. The atmosphere is great there – nice lil’ island vibe. Our servers were welcoming and the food was affordable and tasty. To start, we had an appetiser platter with chicken satay, vegetable spring rolls, shrimp spring rolls and tempura vegetables.
For the mains, we had sesame garlic chicken, beef oyster, Malaysian coconut curry fish and pineapple fried rice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just a heads up, this is not like Jamaican Asian food – the dishes are actually individual, not large plates to share, so keep that in mind. And just like most Asian foods, we were hungry again by bed time 😭.
EL BURRITO Because of proximity, we spent a lot of time at Punta Cana Village. After drinking way too much tequila and rum, I decided I wanted to get tacos before dinner. I did not regret checking this place out! We got take-out, so I can’t comment too much on the staff or atmosphere, but it all seemed great. The food was delicious! I had the spicy shrimp tacos (three tacos with refried beans, cheese, lettuce, pico de Gallo, guacamole and sour cream) and refried beans and rice. Everything was so yummy and perfect to soak up the alcohol 😂. I definitely recommend this place.
LA CASITA DE YEYA
Tumblr media
For our last meal, our host recommended we check out the authentic Dominican food at this place (yes, back to Punta Cana Village for the third time in one day). The food was okay, but we were a little disappointed. The prices were moderate and the servings were huge. We tried the arepas, empanadas, nachos, fish in coconut sauce, steak salad, pork chops and plantain stuffed chicken breast.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The atmosphere is nice and the waiter was pleasant but the food was so-so. We all woke up with stomach issues the next morning- so just a heads up 🙃.
