Introduction post + Tracklist
Hello and welcome to テイルズオブNIGHTCORE, aka Tales of Nightcore, a small project in which I will remix TalesOf songs into Nightcore songs to the best of my ability.
Around 2017/2018 I had my first experience with mixing Nightcore mixes and kind of thought to myself 'hey, why not do a whole TalesOf project'? Well, enter the end of 2024 when I'm picking up the idea again and challenge myself! òvo
I will upload weekly with the first mix coming on Wednesday. The tracklist below the cut is not final, though.
All in all, I hope you'll be having as much fun as I'll be with this little project and most of all enjoy it alongside me.

Yumi Tamura's Tribute to Moto Hagio, Yūko Kishi, Michi Tarasawa, and Kimiko Uehara in Celebration of Flower Comics' 40th Anniversary (2014)
Tamura on Tōma no Shinzō (The Heart of Thomas) by Moto Hagio:
"I loved Julusmole. My friends and I talked about going to Germany someday [because of this manga]. Juli's faint smile in the last scene always makes me cry. Even now. I cry. Warm tears. This manga is a world treasure! (It's too much of a masterpiece)"
Tamura on Tamasaburō: Koi no Kyōsōkyoku by Yūko Kishi:
"This is the manga in which my young and innocent mind first thought, 'I love the characters!' It shows the cute, dignified, fierce, and elegant world of traditional Japanese dance. I recently bought it again via Shogakukan On-Demand. I cried at the sharp ending in the one-shot, Yuki no Uta. I really enjoyed your works, Kishi-sensei! So happy ♡"
Tamura on Shidonī Bōi (Sydney Boy) by Michi Tarasawa:
"Geraldine seriously surprised me and I was so convinced that she was a man. She's by far one of the coolest female characters I've ever seen in my life as an avid manga reader. Even now, I grin with satisfaction just thinking of her. The everyday life in New York and mature, sexy vibes portrayed in the manga are super thrilling!! (Sydney is so cute too)"
Tamura on Lolly no Seishun by Kimiko Uehara:
"It's dynamic, dramatic, passionate, gorgeous, positive, and is filled with strong, spirited girls!! I started drawing manga after reading Uehara's work. It showed me the fun of manga, its richness and heart-quivering intensity!!"

So, uh... This is a video I've made literally a decade ago for a quizz on Sporcle. With all these copyright problems I never for once thought this video would resist and win(?) the battle, so I'm posting it here now lol. I would love to make more of this, but because of the after mentioned reasons, this is the only one. Everybody is always recalling about opening songs, so of course I felt the need to make something big about ending songs. The songs I chose are VERY random because I tried to make the game enjoyable by not making something so easy that you can answer it just by reading the name of the songs alone. Also, the mixing is a mess but I assure you it still worth listening lol. If you don't want to play the game and just listen to a megamix, here's the tracklist: 01. Nana Kitade - Kesenai Tsumi (Hagane no Renkinjutsushi/FullMetal Alchemist) 02. Berryz Koubou - Nanchuu Koi wo Yatteruu YOU KNOW? (Patalliro! Saiyuki) 03. KOTOKO - →unfinished→ (Accel World) 04. The Claudia Kishi Club
youtube
The Claudia Kishi Club is a short documentary by Sue Ding about the impact of the Claudia Kishi character from The Baby-Sitters Club book series on a group of Asian-American creatives. They read the books when they were kids and in the film, they reflect on the importance of Claudia in shaping their perceptions of themselves in an era where Asian-American characters were rare in books, movies, and TV.
The six people interviewed in the film are novelist Sarah Kuhn, YA author CB Lee, Naia Cucukov (executive producer of the Netflix series The Babysitter's Club), comic book artist & author Yumi Sakugawa, blogger Phil Yu, and Gale Galligan (author of The Baby-Sitter's Club graphic novels, which my daughter loves).
The Claudia Kishi Club is now streaming on Netflix, the trailer is embedded above, and here's a clip.

Students have been accepted!
After about a week of sorting, reviewing, and voting, the admins and I are proud to announce that our accepted students are finally here!
We got quite an amazing turnout this round, and had a great time reading over everyone’s applications and getting to know the ocs!
As with the faculty message, we’d like to remind everyone again that a rejection doesn’t mean that your character is bad at all; many factors went into determining who was accepted and who was rejected, so don’t let our thoughts discourage you!
And now, here are our new students!

DR21 Halloween Headcanons
Happy Halloween everyone!! Thought some of you might like to know what the families get up to on Hallow’s Eve, soooooo... headcanon list!
- It’s a busy night full of trick or treating and parties for the kids! Each and everyone of them is up to something. The eldest kids, being Sakura, Leon and Hope, attend a Halloween party at another student’s house. Seiko, Junichi, and Kameyo have all agreed to go trick-or-treating with the middle children as their supervisors. Since Natsumi and Phoenix have never had the chance to celebrate Halloween, Koichi offers to take them out for a trick-or-treating session. His parents have already asked him to watch Seiko and the other kids anyway!
- The eldest kids have a variation of costumes. Playing into her and her mother’s love of athletes and swimming, Sakura chooses to dress as the American Olympian, Simone Manuel. Her costume is cute, fun, and comfortable for her. She can’t help but feel proud wearing it. As for Hope, she takes an excessive amount of time to turn herself into a zombie prom queen. It’s extravagant and over the top, which is funny considering Leon offered to match with her. He’s happy in the costume because he’s making his friend happy, although he did refuse to have her make the costume (”You’re crazy over stressed right now already, Hope! Don’t worry about it, I’ll make it the best you’ve ever seen!”)
- For the middle children costumes, they’re all varying. Considering his love for fish, Phoenix decides to turn himself into a merman. He’s gotten his make-up all done and a shining tail all made for himself, and fortunately he can walk in it. The only issue with it, really, is that he can’t see so well with his glasses off. He’s never really liked contacts. Koichi takes a different turn, choosing to be his favourite character from his favourite video game, Chi No Kishi 3: Death Rising. Considering the game itself is more casual and apocalyptically grungey, his costume’s a lot easier. The craziest thing he gets to do is apply a fake scar to his face. As for Natsumi, she happily turns herself into a marionette. She thinks there’s just something fun about being a cutesy doll that is so different to her natural personality. Her look is completed with stitched lip make-up, and a multi-layered ruffled skirt.
- The little ones are chock full of fun costumes, too! Junichi’s is perhaps the silliest among all of the kids, as he chooses to go as a CEO. Many adults don’t get it, including his honorary aunts and uncles... much to his disappointment. He wears a suit and carries around a little briefcase. In case you’re wondering, yes, his briefcase is where he keeps his candy. Kameyo dresses as a friendly spirit girl, having her mom paint her face with whites and blues to give the appearance of ghostliness. She’s got the cutest white dress on, too! Finally there’s Seiko, who decided to go as Queen of The Underworld. Which means she’s Persephone, given her interest in mythology. It’s just easier to say Queen of the Underworld. Hope made her costume for her, decking her out with a real flower crown and a ancient greece-inspired gown decked out in various shades of purple, blue, and green.
- Admittedly, most of the parents are spending the night at home. Makoto and Kyoko have dressed up as the princess and the frog to hand out candy to kids on their street. They’re pretty generous with their candy; they’re well-known for giving out full-size chocolate bars. Kyoko was once rich and Makoto is incredibly friendly, so it’s only natural that they end up this way.
- Aoi’s a bit lazier with her handing out candy costume. She slaps on her swimming outfit and her Olympic gold medal, and says she’s an Olympian... which she is. In addition to handing out candy, she also is the driver taking the older kids to their party.
- Byakuya chooses to go to a dinner party that night. He’s not one for handing out candy to kids. He’s never really even taken his own son out to participate more than a few times. So he’s on business that night.
- Kanon and Yasuhiro, they choose to hand out candy with only a bit of make-up on. Kanon’s a 1950s girl, while Yasuhiro puts on his old Future Foundation uniform and hands out candy as himself. They’re known for giving out a good variety of candy, as Kanon wants to make sure all of the kids can have something good to eat.
- Fuyuhiko, Peko, Sonia, and Gundham spend their Halloween on Jabberwock. They can’t be with their kids at the time of year, so they wait patiently for the pictures being sent their way of their kids in their costumes. They proudly show them off to the other islanders, and Mahiru even offers to develop some of them to hang in their homes. A kid’s first Halloween is massively important, after all!
- Toko spends a quiet night with her housemate, watching her hand out the candy for the most part. She doesn’t quite like kids, so Komaru does most of the work. Toko just works on keeping their dog, Yumi, at bay. That’s what they get for having a Shiba Inu, she supposes.
- The oldest kids, they have lots of fun at the party. After taking a whack load of pictures with each other and their classmates, they spend their night doing karaoke and dancing with one another. It’s not until later in the night, when some of the other kids have had a little too much to drink, that they dive into a quieter night of being friends with crying drunk girls who really need them. They make sure to cheer them up and make sure they get home safe, before getting Aoi to pick them up.
- The middle children spend their night trick-or-treating and taking the other kids around. Luckily, they don’t get shunned away too much for being older. Most of the adults just remark on how nice it is that they’re looking after the little ones. They get pillowcases stuffed full of candy that they can munch on for days to come, and a night full of amazing memories. Koichi’s stunned when his friends give him a big hug and thank them for taking them out.
- The little kids have a good night too! They get cooed at by candy-givers and other trick-or-treaters alike. People even begin to smile at Junichi’s little CEO costume, and he gets encouraged to follow his dreams. They also get bags full of candy that the middle children check to make sure that they’re all safe. As soon as they’ve been checked, they spend their night munching on candy treats and laughing together.
- Sakura’s favourite Halloween treat to get is Swedish Fish gummies. Leon’s is any form of potato chips. Hope likes Kitkats the best. Phoenix is the type of kid who would be fond of Almond Joy, and Natsumi loves Sweet Tarts. Koichi has to be pickier due to his peanut allergy, and so his favourite tends to be Skittles. Junichi’s favourite is admittedly licorice; he pretends to like black licorice to be mature but really his favourite is the classic red. Seiko adores Aero, purely because she thinks they’re so neat. Kameyo likes to eat Smarties (Canadian Smarties, I should note -- here, we call your Smarties: “Rockets”) because of all of their wonderful chocolatey colours!

Top 10 Manga Picks: the Origins of Manga-Loving Yumi Tamura!
Loosely translated from the Da Vinci Magazine August 2020 issue.
"Tamura has been creating works that span mystery, horror, fictional warfare, action, and fantasy genres. What kind of manga has she been reading up to now? We asked her to introduce the 10 works that inspired her to start drawing manga, as well as what she considers her heart's bible. Includes comments from Tamura herself!"
Yumi Tamura's Comments:
1. Cyborg 009 by Shotaro Ishinomori
"When I was little, I watched the anime first and loved it, and then I read the manga around the time I was entering junior high school. I wanted to be 003 and go into battle with friends in the same way. I feel like it was my emotional support during the period of my 2nd year in junior high when I was having a hard time and ran away from it all."
2. Lolly no Seishun by Kimiko Uehara
"When I was in the 3rd or 4th grade of elementary school, Uehara drew a lot of one-shots in Betsucomi ('Lolly' was a weekly comic), and they were so interesting and moving every time that I was constantly in a state of emotion. I think because of that, I began drawing manga in my notebook, splitting up the pages into panels. Dramatic & rich with emotion, the depicted characters by Uehara, whether men or women, are full of charm & utterly brilliant. The energy and willpower of the female characters is really wonderful."
3. Thomas no Shinzou by Moto Hagio
"Of course I love 'Poe no Ichizoku' & '11-nin Iru!' too. Needless to say, Hagio is the greatest treasure. When I was in the 1st year of junior high, my friend & I were crazy about 'Thomas'. I liked Juri and my friend liked Oskar... we talked about going to Germany someday. It links together my own happy memories. I'm sure I didn't understand everything Hagio was trying to draw, but in the end, even now I cry at the image of Juri smiling faintly in a small panel."
4. Hamidashikko by Jun Mihara
"To me, this work is like the bible. It relentlessly strikes the deepest part of the heart and brings forth a flood of pain and tears. It wraps you up in a warmth that's helplessly miserable, sorrowful. Sincere gazes and intense dialogues. The power of the dialogues is truly unbelievable. The way the dialogues are presented along with the drawings make the best use of that power. Mihara's careful thoughts are at the root of all this. Even though I'm already this grateful, I will never get used to it. It's just amazing."
5. Kyoufu Shinbun by Jirou Tsunoda
"This is the most terrifying manga I've ever read. It's so captivating, & even decades later, it's still ingrained in me. There are various scenes that I'll recall whenever something happens. My younger sister & I would look at each other & go like ‘it's that’ or ‘that one scene, right?!’ & it would send shivers down our spines. We're already at a level of trauma. It's uncommon for a main story line to be most interesting while introducing all sorts of horrors."
6. Hyouryuu Kyoushitsu by Kazuo Umezu
"If I was told to read a manga now that would make me cry right away, then I would choose this one. Particularly the last scene of the mother crying. This work is unbelievably fierce, grand, rich in ideas, & just too fascinating. And the themes are so broad & deep that it makes you think about many things. It's a rare transcendental masterpiece that will, in the end, leave you feeling comforted & positive, thinking ‘it was a good ending,’ even though the journey is extremely scary & painful. Also, my contempt for Sekiya is strong.”
7. Macaroni Hourensou by Tsubame Kamogawa
"This is explosively entertaining. Fun. Cute. Cool. I love it! 25-year old Toshi-chan is the best! He's so cool. I don't know how many times I've read this. I still say the lines out loud even now. This is a very popular work that I can only describe as fun. There are not many other gag manga that make me burst out laughing quite like this one. I love it!”
8. Akaaka Maru by Minako Uchida
"I just can't stop admiring this work in general. The drawings, the rhythm, the stunning midpoint [?], the ability to think in a scientific way. And the proficiency of observing people. I admired it so much that I tried drawing contours of people & handwriting with permanent markers & brushes, but my drawing skills were so different that I ended up with nothing but doodles. ‘BOOMTOWN’ & the short stories are also very interesting & fun!”
9. Genji by Yun Kouga
"Innovative, I thought. I could clearly understand it. Kouga seems to be the kind of person who has a lot of sense. I've always thought it was amazing how her work & she herself had leadership qualities of the time to pull others along. I would very much love to know what kind of ideas Kouga has in mind for the rest of this work, since it hasn't been completed yet.”
10. Nodame Cantabile by Tomoko Ninomiya
"There was a period when I was having a very tough time, & it got to the point where I was having unhealthy thoughts like, ‘Is manga even enjoyable?’ But then this work came along & I was like ‘Aah, manga is fun after all! Thank goodness, I'm okay!’ So, this is a super popular & famous work to which I owe a debt of gratitude for making me realize & genuinely feel this way. I think it would be the greatest if I could portray the world in a similar way with such thoroughness. I envy that power of Ninomiya's! It's magnificent!”
Additional side comment from Tamura (in the speech bubble):
“I wanted to include the Bijohime series (Hana no Bijohime) & PARTNER by Tomoko Naka too! (I think it's obvious that these have an influence on my characters.) Other works that also left a strong impact on me are Ryouko Yamagishi's Arabesque; Yuko Kishi's Tamasaburou series and short stories; Rising! (Saeko Himuro/Author, Kazuko Fujita/Artist); the Palm series (Yasei Kemonogi); Astro Kyuudan (Shirou Toozaki/Author, Norihiro Nakajima/Artist); & Dark Green by Junko Sasaki. Makoto Kobayashi's Judo-bu Monogatari & Nanae Haruno's PaPa told me are also excellent! There’re also many other works that I'll never forget, such as those by Shinji Wada & Udou Shinohara, which have all influenced me in some way. I've always loved TONO's Karubania Monogatari too.”
