♪ "You may fake it but I make it // Buy a ticket // Cause you know Imma run my show" ♪
Most of you are NOT going to understand Yumi Chung's "Crack!" (especially since there are no English subs), but I'm still going to post this because I've discovered several new soloists from STARS Academy (which was a survival competition show from TVB Music). Yumi Chung is my favorite contestant by far! (I admit that biased toward her because she looks like a mini Linda Chung.) My favorite song from her is "Breakin' My Heart" (sorry no subs), & I was surprised to hear that she was going to release "Crack!" because it's a total 180 from her previous singles.
I could translate the lyrics into English if I had time. The problem is that something as little as 4 characters could easily be a compound sentence in English. @_@ Basically, this song is about how Yumi (or any typical girl in general) has decided to undergo metamorphosis & "crack" (break) open from the chrysalis to become something completely different. I guess I'll select a few lines to translate:
"你注重老牌 正確流派 // 我注重個人 怕腳踭跳壞" = You focus on established brands & being right, but I focus on the individual & not breaking my ankles when dancing (i.e. making critical mistakes by following the norm that may not work for me).
"積分表畫交叉都好 [...] 積分表自己加剔號" = You can put cross marks on all my papers however you like (i.e. this is unacceptable or wrong), but I'll add my own check marks (i.e. I determine what's correct for me).
One of the promo hashtags translated to, "the lyrics are kind of bi+chy" XD. I obviously understand Cantonese, but everything is appropriate. Maybe the way how Yumi initiatively approaches the male lead was the flirty part XD.

Rating: 4.5/5
Book Blurb:
A fast-paced, high-kicking debut that’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon meets Stand Up, Yumi Chung as a young taekwondo artist uses an ancient book to help save her dreams—and her father.
Twelve-year-old Modesty “Mo” Seto dreams of being a taekwondo champion. Even though her mom disapproves, Mo can always count on her dad, who is her number one fan and biggest supporter. Lately, Mo has been on a losing streak, and it doesn’t help that she keeps losing to her archnemesis, Dax, who’s much bigger than her. If only she were faster, stronger, not so petite. Mo can’t even lean on her dad like usual with how distracted he’s been lately.
When Mo learns about the chance to audition to star alongside her idol and legendary martial artist and movie star Cody Kwok, she knows this her chance to prove to her dad, to the world, and to herself that she can compete with anyone, no matter her size. Unfortunately, Dax is auditioning, too. As Mo and her nemesis progress to callbacks, someone attempts to sabotage the movie set and Mo’s dad disappears—and both events seem linked to a mysterious book, the Book of Joy.
The book contains information on Xiaoxi Fu, a secret dance-like martial art developed by Mo’s ancestral grandmother. Armed with these secret moves and an unexpected ally, Mo embarks on a high-octane adventure to rescue her father, save the movie, and discover an unexpected joy in being small.
Review:
A young taekwondo artist must use an ancient book to save her dreams and her farther. Modesty "Mo" Seto is a twelve-year-old girl who dreams about becoming a taekwondo champion. Her mother disapproves and her father who was her number one supporter suddenly walks out her match with no explanation and disappears.... and thats when Mo discovers that her dad has been hiding family secrets. Mo also discovers that an opportunity to star in a movie with her idol, a legendary martial artist and movie star, Cody Kwok has come and she's going to do anything to prove to everyone including her dad that she was meant to be a martial artist. But with her taekwondo nemesis also competing for the role, a mysterious person trying to sabotage the movie, and her dad's disappearance as well as her ancestor's legacy... Mo is beginning to realize that her life is going to get much more complicated than she could ever imagine. This was a fun middle grade read about a girl who is just trying to pursue her hobbies and chase her dreams. Mo was a great protagonist and the journey she goes through was a fun one to read. She's dealing with so much, from wanting to get her parents to finally see her to realizing that sometimes your idols are not who you think they are. It's a fun read and I would absolutely recommend it!

What’s on Kavi’s Bookshelf?
These are a couple titles I’ve collected that give big Kavi vibes. Keep in mind that I haven’t read all of these books- so I can’t be the best judge of content matter. This is just a fun way to show a bunch of books that relate to a single character!! I have enough to do an Evette and a Luciana post, if anyone is interested.
For creativity’s sake, I’m not including written scripts and novel adaptations of musicals.
The Chance To Fly//Ali Stroker and Stacy Davidowitz
Middle Grade
Can a wheelchair user even be in a musical? Nat loves musicals, so when she gets ensemble in a children’s production of Wicked, she’s ecstatic. And her cast mates are nice about her disability.. Well, mostly. Even still, Nat doesn’t know if she truly deserves a place in Wicked. After all, she hasn’t seen anyone like her in any musical, let alone Wicked. When things start to mysteriously go wrong, Nat realizes it’s up to her to save their production. But is she brave enough to put a stop to it?
The Roof Over Our Heads//Nicole Kronzer
Young Adult
Finn and his family of theatrical talent live in a historic mansion- owned by the Beauregard. However, when new management threatens Finn’s family’s place at this historic home, Finn’s family decides to throw an immersive theatrical show in an effort to raise money and outcry, or at the very least, go out with a bang. When interpersonal conflict, and a frightening diagnosis threaten to shut down the experience completely, Finn is left wondering whether the show will go on.
That Thing About Bollywood//Supriya Kelkar
Middle Grade
Sonali’s world is collapsing. It’s like no one listens to her, and to make matters worse, her parents might be separating. Sonali wishes she could tell them how she feels, but she’s embarrassed to admit her upset. In an effort to cope, she buries herself in her Bollywood interest. But when her friends and family start belting out in song, and her world transforms into a Bollywood set, Sonali realizes that she has to do something, and that maybe hiding how she really feels isn’t so healthy.
Marya Khan and the Incredible Henna Party//Saadia Faruqi
Early Chapter Book
Marya Khan may or may not have told her class that her eighth birthday party is going to be an epic henna party, as an effort to one-up her rich neighbor. Okay, she totally did. But it’s not a total lie- she just has to convince her parents to throw one. And what do parents love more than a clean house and an already cooked dinner? Nothing can go wrong- right?
Stand Up, Yumi Chung!//Jessica Kim
Middle Grade
Yumi Chung dreams of being a comedian with her very own Netflix special. Unfortunately, her parents and her awkwardness have other ideas. Yumi’s summer is spent at a test prep school, and she is not happy about it. But things start to look up when one of her favorite comedians hosts a kid’s comedy workshop. The only catch is that everyone at this camp thinks she’s the absent camper, Kay Nakamura, and Yumi is way to panicked to correct them.
Midsummer’s Mayhem//Rajani LaRocca
Middle Grade
In this contemporary retelling of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Mimi realizes there may be more to Massachusetts than meets the eye..
Mimi is sick of being the untalented family member, so when a mysterious new bakery opens and hosts a competition, Mimi realizes that this is her chance to grab the spotlight. Quickly, she begins making treats made from exotic ingredients her strange new friend finds in the woods. But when her renowned food blogger dad begins to act strangely and loose his food know-how, Mimi’s world begins to crumble. What’s wrong with her father? And why did this new bakery randomly appear in the middle of the night? And most of all, who truly is her new friend?
Lights, Camera, Disaster//Erin M. Dionne
Middle Grade
With parts written in play script format, Lights, Camera, Disaster tells the story of Hester, a future playwright with ADHD. Hester loves making movies. Rarely seen without a camera in her hand, or a pencil in her hair, Hester knows that she wants a career involving the big screen. But right now, her current job is trying to pass the eighth grade, which is easier said than done with executive function issues.

Book Review: A Beautiful Year in the Bible
Do you need help slowing down and taking in the beauty of the Bible? In A Beautiful Year in the Bible, Alabaster presents a 52-week Bible study for women.
Fresh, Vibrant, Inspiring
The art in this devotional feels fresh, vibrant, and inspiring. Every week comes with a new page of full-color artwork by Rachel Yumi Chung. As a man, I enjoyed reading this and found it to be a wonderful and delightful experience.
What I most loved about this devotional is how it is intended to be used -- by meditating weekly on several passages that reflect a certain topic. The readings span the entire Bible from the Old Testament and the New Testament. So you won't just stay in the Psalms or the Gospels -- but you'll get into Deuteronomy and Judges, Hebrews and Revelation.
Consistent Rhythm, Deep Reflections
The weekly synopsis serves as a way to stay focused, and the reflections and prompts are rich -- encouraging deep thinking. I was especially pleased to read on the complexity of relationships, steadfast faith in times of sorrow, how God values the weak and vulnerable, and compassion and second chances.
I believe that those who use this devotional will find a consistent rhythm and deeper reflections in God's Word. You will have read through and explored the entire Bible. And you will be rewarded with a more intimate relationship with the Lord.
I received a complimentary copy of A Beautiful Year in the Bible through Alabaster's Ambassador Program and this is my honest review. Find more of my book reviews and follow Dive In, Dig Deep on Instagram - my account dedicated to Bibles and books to see the beauty of the Bible and the role of reading in the Christian life. ♪ "Be a moving target // With a higher ground, never feeling down" ♪
Once again, I present another new Cantonese song that most of you won't understand. Today's song/MV is "Troubleshoot" by Windy Zhan, another contestant from STARS Academy (a survival competition show from TVB Music) like Yumi Chung. My previous favorite song from Windy is "The Great Sculptor" (also no subs). Basically, this song is about how Windy (or anyone in general) doesn't care about annoying haters & will gladly return the favor (in the most petty/classy way possible) to those who hurt her (hence all the arrows in her back & how unfazed she is when at gunpoint). Here are some of my favorite lines:
For the Chinese song title: "麻煩" = anything bothersome or troubling; "彈開" = bounce away/back off ("彈" could also mean "bullet" or other projectile). A literal translation would be "all my troubles, get the hell out", hence the English title is "Troubleshoot".
"沒 做錯事 但背面 射到一身的箭" = I did nothing wrong, but people still shoot arrows in my back (i.e. literally every hater out there with nothing better to do).
"Be a movin’ target // With a higher ground, never feelin’ down" = NEVER let others know your next move.
"就任得子彈通處飛 做好充足戒備" = Just let the bullets fly everywhere; all I can do is stay alert (i.e. you can't stop haters, so you need to can prepare yourself).
"Be a favorite target // With a solid ground, never backing down" = There will be people who hate you no matter what, but just ignore & don't entertain them.
"What goes around // Always comes around" = One word—KARMA.
And now I'll translate the promotional mottos:
Annoyance #1: If you think you didn't complete a task as well as you hoped, then build confidence now to bounce back for the next challenge. (麻煩一:有事情做得不好的時候,你要自信有能力反彈。 )
Annoyance #2: If you feel unhappy, then [address the source of the issue now &] bounce back with a better mood. (麻煩二:覺得不開心的時候,麻煩你都要識得情緒反彈。 )
Annoyance #3: If someone is bothering or annoying you, then you'd better bounce back by speaking up & interrupting them. (麻煩三:有人亂找你麻煩的時候,你總要講聲閘住反彈。)
youtube
FUN FACT: LYRE Music Group participated in the composition & arrangement of this song! You might recognize LYRE from several K-pop songs that the talented ladies have produced.

So yesterday i finished girl in the birdcage and i have to admit that it's actually good😍i went in for the yuri but sticked till the end for the story. The dact that the main character actually knows she's being used and is jst pretending to be passive and the way they took their time to have a healthy normal relationship❤️
Also the way they discussed favouritism and how normal students still try kniwing they won't make it is kinda relatable 😅
