They experience a week of silly adventures but return to a world where 30 years have passed and Dipper + co have aged without them. Told as both a comic and a companion fic.

i LOVE your older Dipper design, but what do you think Mabel would look like in her 30s?

Something like this? I think 30s-40s Mabel would look like the elementary school art teacher who made such a transformative impact on you that it preserved your childlike creativity for all your adult life. Design notes below:

Hair got curlier as she got older

Eyesight got worse (damn Filbrick's genes)

Strong jawline runs in the family

Wears purple as much as she can

No braces (yay) but bold lipstick and matching eyeshadow

Forgive me if this is a dumb question but if Mabel was gone for "1 week" but it's actually been 30 years how old are they? How old are the Grunkles?

Not a dumb question at all! Mabel is still 12. Dipper is 43. There doesn’t seem to be an exact age on the Grunkles but considering that they were between 8-10 in “1960 something” Ford is still in his mid to late 50s pushing 60. This means Stan is in his mid to late 80s pushing 90.

im not sure if this has been said already but i am positively RUINED over ford and stan losing so much of what little time they had left together after initially reuniting. i am NOT ready to see stan at the care home

Is Mabel upset at dipper because he grew up without her? Or because of how she fell into the portal in the first place, and it's still fresh for her?

It's more like, she's a twelve year old little kid who went without seeing her twin brother for a long week, and was looking forward to finally seeing him again. But instead she's greeted by some guy she doesn't recognize who keeps telling her that he's her brother and the world has moved on without her for decades. At best, she's irritated, and at worst the hostility comes from a place deep deep down where she'd have to accept that this is her reality. It's much easier to lash out at this weirdo who keeps claiming he's Dipper than to accept that she's never going to see the Dipper she knows ever again.

What is your opinion of ketchup on icecream?

I've pondered this throughout the morning. My conclusion is that I can objectively identify how the flavors could work-- and of course, it would greatly hinge on what flavor the ice cream is. Mint? Absolutely not. I once had a basil gelato though, and think there's real promise to a renaissance of pizza-flavored ice cream with that pairing. Even a vanilla would add a creaminess to the sweet/salty that I don't think would be all that unpleasant? The question does beg: would I try it? Probably not. But if any of you are willing to be happy guinea pigs, I would love to hear the outcome of that particular experiment.

ok so just making sure i'm understanding-- ford DID age the first time around but not the second time, so he'd be around his canon show age at this point in the story ??

Yes! He and Mabel only experienced a week away from home, so they are both the same age as in the canon show (I suppose you could say Mabel's a little older since she spent her 13th birthday in the multiverse).

Please tell me in your gravity falls comic there will be comfort in this angst

Yes, there absolutely will. I created this AU because I envisioned these bittersweet goofy times with an older Dipper and a Mabel who adjusted very quickly to being the spoiled younger sister (though she still holds being the older twin over him). There are jokes and lighthearted laughs planned, but first they've got to accept the sadder points of their reality. This story is very much a sour then sweet candy vibe!

Hiii oh dear I'm so excited I love your art I love the story! I love how well made the plot is it's not random it makes sense it's filled with emotions both gut wrenching yet satisfying thank you for giving yourself the opportunity to share this masterpiece with us I'm so happy I came early while your still making it!!!!

Okay too much but still this is mostly an appreciation more than a question so you don't have to answer I'm just happy I could tell you this

Anyway, does bill ever come back in your AU? People say he's still alive (book of bill, website.. etc) so did Dipper ever encounter him, grunkle Stan or the others? Or is he just gone for good since the Weirdmageddon?

Well-- it does get covered later in the story, but it's not really a spoiler to answer this. I can say matter of factly that no, Bill does not make a cameo. He is still alive as confirmed in BoB but to bring him back as a threat seems to cheapen the course of the original show. As I see it, he was a Big Bad, Stanley made a sacrifice and defeated him, and now he's a sad little institutionalized guy stewing in his toxic yaoi regrets. That being said, you can almost say that his actions have resulted in the Thirty Years AU happening at all-- so he will be brought up, but not as a major plot point.

how many pages are you planning for the comic? if you have a number at least, i know it might be hard early on to tell (i'm like that with how many chapters i'll write for my fics until i'm on top of them haha).

Also a good question! It's a bit hard to say since it's so early, but the AU is segmented into loose "chapters" with plot beats I want to happen as well as some short side stories. So far, this is what it looks like in my head:

sorry if you already answered this, i tried to sift through your asks first, but why is dipper so upset at ford? from what i understand of don’t dimension it, wouldn’t mabel and ford have fallen through the rift on accident? or will that make more sense later? looking forward to more updates!! :))

MMM they will chat in the future and they will emotionally resolve their issues like grown men, but to TLDR it it's like-- Dipper didn't lose Mabel during Weirdmageddon and he didn't lose her during the millions of crazy life-threatening adventures they had. It was a quiet summer afternoon, their birthday was in three days, and then she just kinda-- vanished. It only took a few seconds. After processing that shock for decades, he needed a grand Reason for why it happened to keep himself sane. Stan was next to him, hurting and grieving for all those years, so how could he possible blame him for fixing the portal when he experienced what it's like to miss his sibling to the point of recklessness? That left Ford-- the one who built the portal in the first place, the one who made a deal with Bill at all, the one who suggested they go out on that sunny day and patch up rifts, the one got to be with his sister for 30 years and stole that time with her. I think this only happened when Dipper set down the hero worship goggles and saw the flawed hubris in his grunkle's past. It became easier to blame Ford than to accept that maybe he lost his sister because of something as stupid and fleeting as a careless accident.
