And by switching roles, I mean Zuko dies and becomes the sun while Yue lives and joins Gaang.

Sokka: My first boyfriend turned into the sun.

Yue: *glancing at the sun carefully* I'm sorry, Sokka.

The trip to Boiling Rock ends differently, because the group does manage to escape, but when asked, they have no idea how. It seemed like they weren't going to succeed, but then they did? Like, the firebenders seemed...weaker for some reason. And these two Fire Nations girls helped us?? They looked really confused why. Yue has a reason to believe that maybe they did have help. From none other than the Sun himself, Zuko.

Yes, I do believe Zuko as the sun would see his ex-boyfriend, the girl he was with, and three prisoners and go, "someone from my nation pretty much planned my death, so, fuck you guys, I'm making you weak and helping my ex," and out of petty and spite makes the firebenders weak.

He didn't know that he could but he can and he's full of spite because Agni wasn't weak. He was a strong and an incredible dragon (I like to think Agni would be a dragon). But Zhao still killed him. Not because he wanted to get rid of the sun, he wanted to get rid of Zuko. And what better way than killing Agni so Zuko would have to die?

Back to Boiling Rock, Azula is unable to do anything. But Mai still makes sure that the gondola moves and Ty Lee still chi blocks Azula, who looks at them and demands to know why they did what they did, but they honestly don't know, it was like, something told them to?? And if we could see Zuko, he'd be smiling smugly. He got Sokka out. He was able to influence people he wasn't sure he would be able to. As the freed prisoners and their rescuers leave, he shines brighter. He makes sure they're as warm as they can be.

She’s waiting on that bridge (and I am too)

The night is cold, the moonlight even colder somehow. 

Here he is, standing on the same icy bridge he first saw her at. He could almost feel her hand under his, ever so faintly. He could almost imagine her, hair as white at the stars flowing like water in the snow ridden winds.  Her smile was almost intoxicating. 

The Spirit Oasis, the sound of water sloshing against the walls, two fish rattling the waters, circling, forever in a cycle. 

No. He didn’t want to remember that any longer. It was something that was always crawling in the back of his mind, writhing under his skin. 

One stilled, the red seeping from its body, swirling into the waters. The moon looked like it absorbed the reddened waters, turning a deathly scarlet. 

They were tearing out of his skin, poisoning him, stealing his strength. 

The begging, the pleading for her not to go, not to leave him. 

His lungs condensed, squeezing every last ounce of air out of his body. The thoughts were suffocating him. 

Her hand slipping away from his own weaker one. The image of her back facing him, going limp, eternally etched into the corners of his mind he could never hope to reach. 

His eyes only focused on the sky, begging for any form of solace. Forgiveness.

She was cold, so cold in his arms. Her eyes wouldn’t open no matter how much he asked. Her body faded from his arms, like snow. 

He felt so weak, so helpless in the moonlight. 

The outline of an ethereal her, glowing like the stars above. She kissed him for what he knew would be the last time. He would feel the pressure on his lips for the rest of his days. 

The tears rolled out mercilessly, as he collapsed on that bridge. 

She disappeared into the night, becoming the moon that shone above, no longer a scarlet hue. 

He screamed until his throat burned the shreds it had turned itself into. 

She was gone. 

He couldn’t protect her.

Admittedly, this was probably not Gureum’s best idea to point out about someone’s shifting moodsㅡ friend or not, there were boundaries to keep and in their weak attempt of trying to get to know Yueon a bit better, they had done that mistake leading to the other’s outburst. They deserved it, really, and Gureum could only sit there with embarrassment washing over them to the point that they briefly considered apologizing and walking away. Why was friendship such a complicated thing? Obviously, they didn’t have the answer for it. However, the other’s shaky tone was what made Gureum stay. “I’m sorry,” they apologized, voice gentle to prevent the possibility of further upsetting Yueon, “I didn’t mean to make you feel like I was judging you.” Tucking a strand of hair behind their ear, Gureum found themselves unsure of what to say or do in this situation; while they’re used to be on the receiving end of other people’s moods in their line of work, it felt different with someone they could call a friend. “What do you need me to do?”

Ever since she was young, Sakura had always known the life in the spotlight. She had her fun doing something that she loved, yet was forced to accept the troubles that came along with it. Having her private time disturbed was one of the things she grew used to through the years, though it never got easier to deal with. All this time she only thought about how inconvenient it was for her, but never really saw how it affected the people who still chose to stick around her. She knew Yueon was right. This was the life Sakura signed up for, but all he wanted to do was spend time with his friend. “Look... I’m sorry. You’re right. I’ll deal with this just... give me a second.” She quickly turned to the strangers who approached them, and with a gentle voice she asked them for some space, and to let them have their privacy. Some looked disappointed, some looked offended, but Sakura quickly turned her attention back to her friend and looked at him with pleading eyes. “Stay, please?”

​Instead of just telling Sammy how she’s so sorry, as if her friend is already below seven palms of dirt, recalling the male how he couldn’t escape fate and make it seem more miserable than what it needed to be with plenty of pity for the situation -- When in fact no one new the future and even the most healthy person could have their hours counted without knowing, Jiyun simply offered a smile and walked up to him in her best capacities so she could hug him.

She knew how life and fate could be bad mistresses, she had been near death herself, between the line on each side of the coin and saved by some luck and lots of fighting on her end to make it through it after the car accident and the least he would want was more stress and someone recalling him of it all.

“Want to go outside? We could grab up a snack and sneak out to have a walk. Let the elders to themselves.” The female whispered with a wide smile in her lips, knowing well what she meant with her words, so the other could have a breather and time to just enjoy his time back in Korea as their families reunited as well and talked. “Been a while since Sammy here caught sometime to be with little silly me here.” Jiyun lace one of her arms with his, also to have some help walking as she could do it more or less fine now, but still had some mishaps from time to time.

who’s the cuddler: yijeong. he’d sneak into her bed a lot and cuddle up to her a lot that way. he’d probably have to initiate a lot of it in the beginning as mika struggled to mika in a physical sense, but it got a little easier over time. her favourite thing to do when she got comfortable was use him as a sofa.

who makes the bed: mika! she’d ask yijeong to do it, just to feel like she’s bossing him around. but she’d eventually just do it anyway. its the one thing he could get away with not doing because of how picky she is. his bed would look like a hotel motel holiday inn bed when she was finished.

who wakes up first: mika, shes up very early. im talking 6am. sometimes, in the older days when they wouldnt spend the night in the same room. she would sneak into his room and just climb in next to him and just play on her phone. keep herself busy but... have his company.

who has a weird taste in music: they kinda both just listen to super angry music together. mika whips out her angry german music and they have a headbanging session. she listens to five nights at freddys songs though so i think she takes the crown for this one.

who is more protective: god they’re both as bad as each other. like they’ll bully each other non stop but if anyone else even tried it, even just a tiny bit, there would be murder. mika, although not the most jealous person, she liked to make sure that everyone around them knew that this one was hers. so she’d either be in his lap, or she’d have ahold of his hand. 

who sings in the shower: mika. its 2am. shes been showering for an hour. yijeong is begging her to stop. she wont. it’s just bad pitbull through the walls until the early hours babey.

who cries during movies: mika normally cries. they could be watching spy kids and she would find a reason to cry. yijeong either ignores the fact shes crying because he just aint got a clue, or she gets a playful pull toward him. if yijeong cries at something mika laughs at him and probably just calls him a virgin. if he actually gets upset for real she would comfort him in her own special comedic way tho.

who spends the most while out shopping: mika. its normally either on dave or some stupid experiment for them to try together. like the mop thing for example, they’d have to pick up all the tools for that. a treehouse in winter, you need a shit ton of wood for that. so yeah, that. but if u think about it this way, the fact shes paying for things for them to do TOGETHER it makes it more cute rather than chaotic.

who kisses more roughly: yijeong and mika would just smile into it help 

who is more dominate: well there’s definitely switching in there, but in everyday situations, i wanna say mika normally would take charge. she’d want to make decisions and decide where to go to eat, pay for things, etc. of course not everyday but, most of the time.

The premise is fantastic and creates fertile grounds to explore the characters' motivations, emotions, and insecurities. The slow unfurling of the relationship between Sokka and Zuko makes my heart hurt (in a good way haha), but I also love the way the author portrays the other relationships in this fic (both romantic and otherwise). I reread this one often.
