YU TOSAKI from “Ajin” and KAZUTAKA MURAKI from “Yami no Matsuei” comparison:

I just started reading the manga “Ajin” and when the character Yu Tosaki was introduced I just could not NOT notice the similarities that instantly reminded me of Kazutaka Muraki from the manga “Yami no Matsuei” (Descendants of Darkness):

Most obviously their design (hair, glasses, dressed in white, often seen wearing suits or ties, etc.), their overall looks/appearence, owning some kind of power/influence to a certain degree and the most prominent similarity; they both seem to hunt an immortal being to get a hold of their body to be able to experiment on it. :P (And they both smoke, or at least used to, as far as I know :P)

I’m not very far into “Ajin” yet, so I don’t know if my observations and conclusions will stay true, but I just couldn’t withstand to compare those two at this point in the story... :P

Maybe I have to mention that I REALLY am a HUGE fan of “Yami no Matsuei”... :3 I still love this manga so much from the bottom of my heart (yes, it was one of the first manga I read when I was a teenage girl still... xD) and it still pains me so much that it never got finished... T___T (Well, up to now at least... :P Hope dies last...?^^° I like to call it the “Half Life 3 of my life″, if you know about this game series’ fate... xD)

Did anyone else catch the parallel between Izumi’s mother and Tosaki, both stabbing another man threatening Izumi’s safety with a kitchen knife, until they died? Then consequently getting stabbed themselves, and either dying or being wounded enough so that death was speculated?

If anything I think this plays on the fact that tosaki was supposed to represent a father figure in Izumi’s life that she loved and cherished. Like her mother, he was far from perfect and used borderline manipulative tendencies to control her, but in the end sacrificed himself so that she could life.

Alongside that, she didn’t know the confrontation that went down in her mother’s last moments, or Tosaki’s presumed last moments.

I drew Tosaki from Ajin. He is so underrated, I absolutely loved his character in the anime. I need to read the manga next :D

With fleeing the apocalypse no longer an option, Kei turns toward the research facility where the outbreak began—where the first Jikininki, the first hungry ghost, appeared. Around midday, the group stopped at an abandoned gas station—not so much in the hopes of finding gas in the pumps, but in any other cars that might be lying about. There was also, for the humans, the chance of food to be scavenged from the remains of the convenience store.

“This’ll do...” Kai muttered, pacing from vehicle to vehicle. Kei sat atop the stolen car, keeping watch. Tosaki had wandered off, but the scent of his mints lingered—he couldn’t be far.

“So.” Izumi folded her arms on the car’s roof, though she stared straight ahead. “Why are you so set on this? On saving humanity?”

“I’m not,” Kei replied, slightly annoyed. “I’m set on saving my own skin. And Kai’s. If we left the quarantine zone—even assuming we made it, which I don’t think is realistic—it would be a temporary fix. If the world ends, where’ll that leave us?”

Izumi shrugged. “You could have a few more good years, at least, if you ran.”

“I want a good life,” Kei retorted. “What’s wrong with you that you’d be satisfied with a couple lousy years?”

“Guys!” Kou came trotting out of convenience store, arms full of snack food. Tosaki trailed behind him, though at a safe enough distance to avoid confrontation. “This was the best stop!”

“Stupid!” Kei called over, and Izumi snorted. “There’s no nutrition in that sort of junk.”

“Who cares?!” Kou retorted, then said, “Shotgun, this time!” and dumped his armful of snacks into the passenger seat.

“How are we coming, Kai?” Kei called.

Kai trotted over with a canister of gas. “We’re good to go! This’ll get us to the facility and then some.”

“Perfect.” Kei slid off the roof; glanced at Izumi. She gave a suffering sigh, but slid into the middle of the backseat beside Tosaki.

Though Kou and Kai kept up a friendly conversation in the front seat, sharing chips and sweetbreads, the backseat remained mostly silent. Kei stared out the window, planning, and Izumi made a deliberate effort to remain lost in her own thoughts.

Tosaki pulled out a brand new tin of mints and peeled off the crackling plastic seal.
