#youtuber fairytale series

Years and years ago I stumbled upon this trio of Youtube videos. I had lost their trace for a good amount of time before finally finding them back. It is the Fabled series, a trio of humoristic Youtube sketches centered around fairytales and produced by the stuntbear Youtube channel (which seems to have gone dormant three years ago?)
Fabled takes the form of a sort of talk-show where characters from popular fairytales are interviewed "after" their fairytales happened, when they became famous stars known throughout the world - and the humor goes from Hansel and Gretel turning out to be the villains of their own story, to the giant of Jack and the Beanstalk being depicted as a victim of robbery, and Jack as a criminal junkie... This mini-series was also apparently a testing ground for makeup special effects and prosthetics.
There are only three episodes.
The Three - sorry, the Two Little Pigs:

Early the next morning, Dean woke to Y/N's restless sighs and her constant shifting beside him. It seemed like she might be having less than pleasant dreams.
Cupping her jaw, he tried to soothe her with a soft kiss to the forehead. It worked and she stopped moving around so much. But a small frown still puckered her brow. Dean pulled her a little closer against him and she sighed softly as her face relaxed back into a calm sleep.
He hoped it wasn't him and their fight that was troubling her dreams. God knew he hadn't slept at all the night before; instead he spent all night missing her soft presence beside him.
He was getting a little too used to having her there, a little too used to having her in his life all together. She was clearly still up in the air about whether she was going to say yes or no to him.
I should create a little distance, just in case, he thought, stay home for one whole day and night. I need to be prepared for the possibility of her leaving in four days time.
But when he thought of her leaving, he felt a pit start to open in his stomach. And the idea of spending another one of their possibly limited days and nights away from her, made him start to feel panicked, and he absolutely hated that feeling.
He gritted his teeth. Definitely need some distance.
Y/N shifted again, burying her face in his shoulder, her soft sigh making a mockery of his warning to himself. He leaned down to kiss her temple and then her forehead.
She moaned lightly and rolled onto her back. Ignoring his body's response to the moan, he leaned down to place a soft, chaste kiss to her lips.
Like something from a fairytale, Y/N's eyes fluttered open and she stared at him a moment before her lips curved into a warm smile and she stretched, reaching her arms up over her head and giving another, much longer moan that was simply too hard for Dean to ignore.
So as she finished stretching, Dean rolled on top of her, bracing his weight on his forearms, and capturing her lips in a deep, probing, and very un-fairytale like kiss.
A soft whimper escaped her throat and he instinctively rolled his hips against the soft heat at the apex of her thighs and groaned deeply. Sometimes he wanted her so badly he could hardly breathe.
Sometimes? His inner voice mocked him.
As he ended the kiss, he pulled back and studied the lines of her face, marveling yet again at just how beautiful she truly was.
Y/N was slightly breathless as she gazed up at him.
“Well, good morning.” She said, her voice husky with sleep and desire.
“Merry Christmas.” Dean responded.
Y/N chuckled. “And a very, merry Christmas to you.”
He dipped his head and kissed her again, and again, and soon he was lost in the way she clung to him, the way her breath hitched when he slipped his hand between their bodies and stroked her, the way his name fell from her lips like drops of honey, sweet and utterly delicious.
Distancing himself could come later, he decided - tomorrow. After all, it was Christmas; he deserved the gift of Y/N.
Eventually, a long time later, they actually got up and started their day.
Y/N wandered into the bathroom doorway as he began to lather up his shaving soap with his horse hair brush and then apply it to his cheeks.
“So, I'm assuming you've also been invited to Christmas dinner?” She asked.
He grinned at her, with half his face lathered. “The Christmas dinner that's being prepared in my kitchen and served in my dining room?” He chuckled, going back to spreading the soap across his face. “Yeah, I got an invite.”
He finished covering his face and turned to look at her. “I thought we'd get there around one o’clock, since dinner starts at two?”
He picked up his straight razor and slowly dragged it across his cheek, removing the soap, and the whiskers with it.
“Oh I don't know if -” Y/N stopped as he took another swipe with the razor. “Aren't you afraid you'll cut yourself with that thing?”
Caught off guard by the question, it took Dean a moment to answer. He chuckled again and shook his head before continuing. “Not really, no. Been shaving since I was sixteen, I'm kind of used to it by now.”
He rinsed off the blade in the sink and then held it out to her.
“Wanna try?”
Y/N shook her head vehemently. “Absolutely not! I'm not going to be responsible for scarring that beautiful face.”
Dean scoffed and laughed, taking the next swipe with the razor. “So, what don't you know about?” He said, referring to her earlier, truncated statement.
“Oh.” Y/N shook her head. “I don't know if we should go to dinner together. At the same time I mean. Won't that be a little obvious that we're…staying together?”
Dean dropped his hand as he was about to scrape off more whiskers, turning his head to fix Y/N with an incredulous look.
“Sweetheart, they're staying in my house and I've barely been home once since I moved you into this hotel.” He paused and raised an eyebrow. “They know.”
He had to shake his head at Y/N's predictable blush.
She shrugged. “I suppose, but…”
Dean sighed. “Look, at the very least, they know we've been spending time together, right? So, is it really so strange that I'd offer to pick you up and drive you over?”
Y/N shook her head and Dean nodded. “Exactly.”
He went back to shaving as Y/N continued to watch him from the doorway. After a few minutes of silence, just as he was finishing up, Y/N cleared her throat.
“Can I ask you about something I didn't get the chance to last night?”
Dean grinned as he rinsed off his razor and left it open to dry fully.
“Uh oh. Do you have more phrases you want to know the meaning of?”
Y/N shook her head firmly, turning bright red, and Dean laughed as he bent to the sink to rinse away the last of the shaving soap.
Taking a deep breath Y/N spoke softly. “No, I was wondering…what happens when you…when you get married?”
Dean froze for a moment, the water rushing down the drain before he slowly stood straight and shut off the tap.
He could feel his stomach sink to his toes and then lodge in his throat. He tried to keep his voice steady as he grabbed a towel.
“That won't happen.”
Y/N let out a small, humorless chuckle. “Oh, you say that now. But then one day you'll see some beautiful young debutante across a crowded ballroom and fall head over heels, sweep her off her feet and march her down the aisle.”
“No.” He said succinctly before burying his face in the towel and rubbing it briskly over his cheeks.
“But, how do you know that?”
He pulled the towel away and scowled at her. “Because I know.”
She opened her mouth to speak again, but he slashed his hand through the air, raising his voice.
“No enough, Y/N! That's not something you'll ever have to worry about, so just drop it.”
The silence was loud between them as Y/N nodded.
“Alright.” She said softly.
The look on her face made Dean feel rotten for shouting at her, but he could still feel the panic rising and he needed to shut it down immediately.
He rubbed at his cheeks with the towel again before tossing it aside and walking over to her in the doorway. He rubbed his hands up and down her arms and bent forward to kiss her briefly.
“Why don't you ring for breakfast?”
Y/N nodded again and offered a small smile. “Alright. Though I feel a little like Ebenezer Scrooge, making the staff work on Christmas morning.”
Dean chuckled and nodded towards the end of the bed.
“My billfold is in the inside pocket of my suit jacket that you passionately tossed onto the floor last night.” He said, appreciating the pink that tinged her cheeks at that reminder.
“Grab it and pull out as much cash as you want for a nice Christmas bonus for the staff. Ease our Scrooge-ish guilt.”
Y/N laughed softly. “Alright. Eggs and sausages for you?”
Dean nodded. “Perfect.”
As Y/N moved off to get them breakfast, Dean took a deep breath and forced calm through his body.
It was Christmas; he just wanted to enjoy the day and not let the subject of marriage sour everything.
With that in mind, he forced a smile as he walked back into the room.
“Oh, and a coffee, black.”
***
Y/N leaned back from the table as she finished off the last of her honey-drizzled croissant and licked her finger tips with ravenous delight.
“That was so delicious I could eat a dozen of them myself!"
Dean chuckled and leaned over to thumb away some of the flaky pastry that had stuck to her bottom lip before kissing her softly.
He pulled away, licking his lips. “Mmm…yep, delicious.” He said with a gentle smile.
His green eyes radiated warmth as they stared into hers and Y/N felt her insides turn to mush. She lowered her gaze; she couldn't keep believing those looks.
Yes, Dean liked her, he was obviously attracted to her, and seemed to enjoy spending time with her. But that was where things ended for him.
He'd been perfectly clear about his obvious disdain for the idea of marrying her. She'd merely mentioned the subject of marriage and he'd angrily shouted her down.
It didn't take a genius to understand the rejection in that anger. She wouldn't bring it up again. She didn't need to have her heart pulverized any further.
She loved him and he liked her. And that was the end of it.
She smiled at him now and pushed away from the table. “I got you something for Christmas.”
He grinned and nodded. “Me too.” He went to his greatcoat where it hung by the door and reached into an inside pocket.
Feeling happiness bubble up inside of her despite everything, Y/N went to the top drawer of her wardrobe where a small square box was wrapped and hidden.
They sat in the big green chairs, shifting them slightly so they faced each other a little more.
Y/N quickly passed Dean his gift. “Open it. I hope you like it. I picked it out two days ago and have been dying to give it to you. I'm bad at keeping secrets.”
Dean chuckled as he tore away the wrapping and lifted the lid of the flat box. He reached in to lift out a blue and green striped, silk tie.
“Y/N this is beautiful. But you spent too much money on it.”
Y/N shook her head. “No, it's fine.”
She'd bought it out of her own meager savings because it didn't feel right to buy something for Dean with his own money. It had been a little pricey, but it was worth it to see him looking at it so admiringly.
“So, you like it?”
He leaned forward and kissed her cheek. “It's great and I can wear it to dinner. Thank you.”
“You're welcome.” Y/N said shyly.
Dean passed her a medium-sized, square box; it was white, and wrapped with a silver bow.
“The bow got a little crushed in my pocket, sorry.” He said, trying to fluff it back up.
Y/N chuckled as she took the box from him. She untied the bow and quickly attached to the end of her braid.
“No, it's perfect.”
Dean smiled. “Suits you.” He nodded impatiently towards the box. “Open it.” He said, excitedly.
Y/N laughed. “Alright, alright.”
She lifted off the lid and pushed aside the shredded paper inside, trying to see what it was protecting.
Lying beneath the paper was a small glass ornament. Y/N picked it up slowly and gasped when she saw what it was.
“It's a snow globe.” Dean said, enthusiastically. “Well, sort of “ He finished with a grin.
It was a snow globe, except instead of snow falling, there were tiny, soft pink flower petals floating within the scene encased in glass.
There was a lush painted scene of a rolling green hill and a path lined with cherry trees rising up over it. Tiny, carved, painted people strolled under the trees, while off to the side, a huge fairway had been created in miniature.
There was a big ferris wheel and a carousel. Games were shown, ring toss, and bullseye. More tiny people played the games, forever frozen in their playful excitement.
The globe sat atop a beautiful, polished, cherry wood base, intricately carved with curling, trailing vines and leaves. And in the very middle of the base, in bold, black lettering, were the words “The Omaha World’s Fair. 1898.”
It was exquisitely created, a perfect miniature depiction of springtime and joy. It was so beautiful and so perfect a gift, that it brought tears to Y/N’s eyes which she rapidly blinked away. She looked up at Dean, and she must have seemed stunned because he gave her a puzzled look.
“Do you like it?”
Y/N could only nod as she tilted it upside down again to make the flower petals float. She could hear the smile in Dean’s voice even if she couldn’t pull her eyes away from the idyllic scene to see it.
“I figured it would have to do until we can get you to the real thing in a few years.” He said. Y/N finally turned her head to look back at him.
“It’s perfect, Dean. So, incredibly beautiful.”
“Good.” He said with a slightly shy smile. He gave a small shrug. “I saw it in a little curio shop window on my way to work a few days ago and I just had to stop and get it for you.”
He pointed towards the globe. “It’s a music box too. Look at the bottom.”
Y/N turned it over to find a winding mechanism on the bottom. She twisted it as far as it would go, and the popular waltz After the Ball, began playing in bright, sparkly notes.
As she flipped the ornament right side up, she gave a little squeal of delight, pointing to the fair scene inside. “The ferris wheel and carousel are moving!”
Y/N watched the intricate movements and the gentle fall of the petals and was completely and utterly entranced by the beauty and ingenuity on display.
Impulsively, she set down the globe on the table and launched herself into Dean’s arms.
“Oof!” He grunted as she leapt on him.
“I love it so much, Dean. Thank you.”
He nodded. “I'm glad. And you're very welcome.”
He bent his head and spent a moment kissing her senseless before sweeping her up into his arms and waltzing her around the room as she clung to his neck and giggled helplessly.
After a minute she was giddily dizzy, and as the last notes of the music box fell away she buried her face in Dean’s neck to try and stop the room spinning. He finally landed them back in the green chair and she dared to open her eyes.
She laid her hand against his jaw and pulled his lips down to hers. When she pulled away there were tears in her eyes again.
“It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever owned.” She told him truthfully.
Dean kissed the tip of her nose and then each corner of her mouth. “Good.” He said with a gentle smile. They sat cuddled in the chair for a little while, just enjoying each other’s warmth and closeness.
Finally Dean kissed the top of her head. “Hey, that storm last night blew away most of the freezing weather. Wanna take a walk? Might be the only time in New York when we get the sidewalks mostly to ourselves.”
Y/N laughed. “That sounds wonderful.”
Dean patted her hip and she climbed off of him. “Then let’s go.” He said with enthusiasm as he headed off to get dressed.
Y/N sank back onto the chair for a moment and picked up her gift, tilting it and winding it up again to watch the scene unfold, with Dean’s words echoing in her mind.
“I figured it would have to do until we can get you to the real thing in a few years.”
For a moment she closed her eyes and allowed her mind to dwell on the happy picture she conjured. She and Dean dressed in their finest spring fashions and strolling the fairways and cherry tree lined sidewalks. Sam and Jessica walked ahead of them, with Lucy between them, holding their hands. Their laughter was carried away by the soft breezes that pulled at her skirts and ruffled Lucy's hair.
The idyllic image melted away though, when she realized that even if she and Dean were still together in three and a half year’s time, they wouldn’t be strolling hand in hand, walking with his family, out in public at such a wholesome, family outing. If they went, they’d go after dark, and they’d go alone. Happy family time was not meant for mistresses.
She set the snow globe down along with her ridiculous fantasies, and moved off to get dressed.
***
“Miss Y/N!” As Y/N stepped through the door that the butler, Grant, held open, Lucy Winchester tackled her, wrapping her little arms as far as they could reach around Y/N’s legs, nearly bowling her over.
“Lucy!” Jessica called out as she and Sam came into the foyer. “For pity’s sake, let Miss Y/N through the door before you attack her.”
Y/N shook her head, laughing. “No, it’s fine. I’ve missed you too, little miss.” She said, patting the girl's dark hair.
Dean walked in behind Y/N and gave Lucy a pretend scowl. “What’s this? Are you saving any of those hugs for your uncle who has spoiled you so rotten this Christmas?”
Lucy squealed and immediately ran at Dean so he could throw her up in the air and then into his arms.
Jessica came forward and gave him a kiss on the cheek and a crooked grin. “Yes, a messenger delivered all her gifts yesterday. It was everything we could do to keep her from tearing into them immediately. You have indeed, utterly spoiled her. I mean, you always spoil her, but this might be considered obscene.”
Dean grinned. “It isn’t every Christmas that I actually get to see my little Luce on Christmas Day. Gotta make it special.” He then walked out of the entryway with Lucy still in his arms, playing a game where he pretended to drop her, just so he could catch her again, over and over.
Jessica just rolled her eyes indulgently and led them all into the parlor where the Christmas tree sat in all its majestic glory.
They relaxed in the parlor for almost an hour, visiting and chatting, about Sam's conference, about all the places Jessica and Lucy had been throughout New York.
Dean told them about taking Y/N skating. “Couldn't stay on her feet.” He tattled with a teasing grin.
Y/N blushed. “I told you, it's been a long time since I skated.”
“Well, you won't be able to use that excuse next time.” Dean teased her and everyone laughed.
When they finally went into the dining room for dinner, Y/N gasped. The table was laid out beautifully and extravagantly.
“Jessica! This is stunning.” she praised.
Jessica smiled. “Thank you, but I couldn't have possibly put this together without Mrs. Simmons” She turned to Dean. “You should count yourself lucky to have her as your housekeeper, and maybe consider giving her a raise.”
Dean grinned as he pulled out Y/N's chair and then sat beside her. “I'll do that.”
Everything was beyond delicious and Jessica reminded Dean to give his cook, Mrs. Plessi, a raise too.
The conversation flowed surprisingly easy. Y/N had been worried things would be stilted or awkward with everything that was going on. But the dinner was filled with laughter and happiness and Y/N was having a wonderful time, pushing aside all the negativity that wanted to bubble up inside her.
After dinner was finished and they were all fuller than they needed to be, they moved back into the parlor, so everyone could exchange gifts.
Y/N got a beautiful pair of kidskin gloves from Sam and Jessica and a crudely stitched, pincushion doll from Lucy. She suspected the little one had gotten a lot of help from Jessica, but the little girl's eyes shone proudly as Y/N exclaimed over how beautiful it was and how talented a seamstress Lucy was.
She spent the rest of the afternoon playing with all her new toys, introducing her porcelain doll, Esmeralda, to the stuffed bear and cloth doll her parents had gotten for her, and promising they were all going to be best friends.
She gave Sam and Jessica a pretty little glass ornament for their tree with the words, “Christmas 1900” painted on it, and she gave Lucy a book of nursery rhymes.
The adults all exchanged gifts, but of course Lucy got the most gifts of them all, and a lot of those were from Dean. She went a little mad as she pulled them all open. Her screeching joy over the last gift she opened, a porcelain doll with real hair, had everyone laughing.
Eventually, she put her dolls to sleep and crawled up on Dean's lap to get him to read her some of her nursery rhymes. He obliged and the silliness of the rhymes kept them all entertained for a while.
Y/N looked at Lucy in Dean's lap, her rosy cheeks glowing with delight as he read to her, and she felt her heart swell in her chest.
Halfway through the book, Dean set it down and repositioned Lucy in his lap.
“These nursery rhymes are great, but I think we should go for a horsey ride. What do you think?”
“Oh boy!” Lucy cried, clapping her hands.
“Oh boy.” Sam said with a groan. “Not this close to bedtime.“ He told Dean, who chose to ignore him
He sat Lucy on his knee so that it looked like she was riding sidesaddle. Moving his leg sedately up and down, he sung the simple words to the nursery rhyme.
“This is the way a lady rides, lady rides, lady rides. This is the way a lady rides all through the town.”
Shifting her so that one chubby leg dangled on either side of his knee, he picked up the pace slightly, but still kept a steady rhythmic ”prancing” throughout the next part of the song.
“This is the way a gentleman rides, gentleman rides, gentleman rides. This is the way a gentleman rides all through the town.”
Lucy began giggling like mad, obviously well-aware of what was coming next.
“Hang on, l’il pardner!” Dean told Lucy in a would-be western accent.
He began bouncing and twisting his knee all around like a broncing bull, making Lucy squeal and grab on to her Uncle's kneecap. Dean had an iron grip around her waist as he sang the last verse.
“This is the way a cowboy rides, cowboy rides, cowboy rides. This is the way a cowboy rides all through the town.”
He kept her on the bucking bronco for a little while, slowing down every once in a while, only to speed back up and start Lucy cackling all over again.
This will never be mine. I'll never have this with him.
Y/N was laughing as she watched the sheer delight on her little student's face. Sam and Jessica were laughing too, and it was a warm, precious moment.
But it was in that precise moment, when her heart was full and happy, that the realization pierced through Y/N once again.
It was impossible. Even if she stayed with Dean, no matter what, she'd never have this simple, domestic happiness. She'd never watch him bounce their little girl on his knee, never go to the park together as a family and watch him teach their son to fly a kite.
They wouldn't sit down to Christmas or Easter dinners with friends and family. She and Dean wouldn't watch their children grow up, would never watch each other grow old.
She'd get a few years with Dean at most, and when he was through, her only option would be to move into another man's bed. Maybe she'd be able to wait a year, maybe even longer if Dean was generous.
But no matter what, even if Dean gave her enough to live off of for ten years, they would be empty years. Alone years.
This would never be her life.
Tears gathered fast and thick behind her eyes, and she looked away from Dean and Lucy quickly.
“Excuse me.” She said with what she hoped was a believable smile, as she walked briskly from the room. She escaped across the foyer and into Dean's study just before she broke into tears.
She sat down on the couch and buried her face in her hands, the tears flowing freely despite her desperate attempt to make them stop.
The door opened and Y/N jumped up, worried it was going to be Dean. But instead Jessica was poking her head around the door and then sliding inside.
“I thought I saw you disappear into this room.” She said gently.
Y/N tried to dash away her tears surreptitiously. But Jessica had already seen them. She didn't seem surprised by them, and she didn't ask Y/N what was wrong.
She simply stepped forward and placed a consoling hand on Y/N's arm.
“You love him.” She said plainly, but with immense sympathy in her tone.
Y/N thought about lying, but there was no point. So she nodded and felt a sob escape her chest. Jessica stepped forward and pulled Y/N into a hug, wrapping her up tightly and letting Y/N muffle her tears in the soft green wool of her dress.
Y/N cried until her throat hurt and her head ached. When she was finished, Jessica sat beside her on the couch for a little while.
“I'm sorry, Y/N.” She said quietly.
But Y/N shook her head. “No, you warned me.”
Jessica sighed. “I'm still sorry you're being hurt. I could maybe talk to him abou-”
“No!” Y/N said immediately. The only thing she could think of that would be worse than loving Dean when he didn't love her back, was him knowing how she felt and being annoyed by her unwanted feelings or else, worst of all, feeling sorry for her.
“No, it's fine, I don't think there's anything to say to him that's going to change his mind. But thank you.”
Jessica nodded. “I'll give you a few minutes alone, and I'll make sure no one comes in here till you come out.”
Y/N nodded and gave Jessica a smile, grateful to get the time to try and look presentable again.
When she was alone, she took deep shuddering breaths and smoothed down her hair. As she let her puffy eyes and tear-stained cheeks recover, thoughts began to unfold in her mind and she came to another realization.
She couldn't say yes to Dean.
She couldn't have him for a little while and then just lose him; she couldn't have him, without ever really having him. If walking away now was going to break her heart, how much worse would it be after she'd spent years with him and was then forced to walk away?
She couldn't say yes.
But she also realized that before they parted ways there was one thing she had to do.
Eventually she felt a little more normal, and looking at her reflection in the darkened window, it looked like most of the traces of her tears were gone. So, she rejoined the group in the parlor.
They only stayed another few minutes however, since it was getting to be past Lucy's bedtime.
There were many good wishes exchanged and sleepy hugs from Lucy. Jessica gave Y/N another quick, tight hug, and she and Dean were soon on their way in the hack that rolled up outside the door.
As they made their way through the deserted New York City streets, Y/N slid closer to Dean on the seat, wrapping her arms around his and leaning her head on his shoulder as they bumped along the cobblestone.
She held his hand all the way through the snowy path that led to the garden doors; she didn't want to let go of him.
But when they got inside, they separated so Dean could light some lamps and Y/N could get out of her coat and boots. After Dean had done the same, she was again at his side. She pulled him close and kissed him softly.
Dean tried to deepen the kiss, but she pulled back. He looked down at her with heat in his gaze and she allowed all her passion for him to show in hers.
“I want to give you something for Christmas.” She whispered.
Dean smiled and pulled his tie loose, lifting the end towards her. “But you already did.”
Y/N shook her head. “I want to give you something else too.”
“Alright. What's that?” Dean asked with a warm smile.
Y/N hesitated for the span of a breath before answering.
“Me.”

Thinking about the current series of Who again in the context of the overall arc beginning with the Toymaker episode and the running thread of media and self-awareness within the show.
The Toymaker set things in motion with Stookie Bill, invading and overpowering the world through the very first television broadcast and "if the very first image has been hiding in every screen ever since, sneaking into your head, carving a wave and waiting", wouldn't something like that leave a mark?
We know the Toymaker has 'children' of a kind in the shape of Maestro, a creature that consumes and manipulates music. We also know a fragment of the Toymaker (eta. forgot it was the Master trapped in there) was picked up by someone/something at the end of the episode.
Tumblr media
We also know there's something bigger than Maestro on its way - The One Who Waits.
It got me thinking about the genre jumping this season has been doing all over the place and the way different kinds of media and watching and use of media is critical to every bit of the plot.
The Church on Ruby Road - Ruby's life is very literally the subject of a television show which is the trigger for her becoming the target of the Goblins (Documentary)
Space Babies - a group of children confined in a space station with tasks and jobs and monitored by someone unseen who is watching them and will speak to them through an audio system (Big Brother)
The Devil's Chord - Centred on real musicians saving the day with a show-stopping finale significantly with "we should visit [Star Trek]", Maestro playing the Who theme music, diagetic sound being mentioned and multiple characters breaking the fourth wall, suggesting self-awareness of being part of the media (Musicals)
Boom - A dramatic war story where someone goes in search of their lost father on the battlefield spiced up with conspiracy of Big Capitalism's war profiteering (War films)
73 Yards - All the broadcast and media related elements that help Ruby piece together her role and defeat the villain of the episode without doing anything herself with all cameras pointed and focused on her - she is the object who is being watched but uses that as a weapon, turning the MP character into the subject (Horror/Fairytales)
Dot and Bubble - this one speaks for itself, really. The echo-chamber of 'influencers' sustaining themselves on a self-feeding fatuous loop of people so awful that the AI designed to protect them eats them XD (Youtube-style media)
Rogue - they're cosplaying Bridgerton. The Doctor, Rogue, Ruby, the villains. They're all cosplaying Bridgerton and say as much in the dialogue. It's a play. A drama within a drama. About watching and waiting for the narrative beats and recognising the arcs and trying to rewrite the story (Bridgerton)
Then we have the recurring character (played by Susan Twist) who appears through all of the episodes, which is what's bringing me back to Stookie Bill and the concept of someone being present inside the story from the beginning.
What if she is the one who waits? She keeps recurring in every storyline they stumble into because - like Stookie Bill - she's "hiding in every screen ever since, sneaking into your head, carving a wave and waiting".
And, because my brain makes giant leaps of logic, it made me think of the most famous icon of the BBC from back in the day: the Test Card F screen, that was put on the screen when no shows were playing. It was on screens across the world for decades. It was iconic and it was a sign to wait for your shows to come.
Tumblr media
One who waits with a puppet and a game :D

It's a new beginning!
Hello children,
September is coming, school too for some of you - often a great moment for a bit of decluttering and a few new good resolutions. Here am I, offering myself as one of them!
As you hopefully know, I started this blog in 2016 and have been a private tutor since the beginning of the pandemic. I have room at the moment for several new students, so here is what I offer:
Classes, obviously - the typical schedule is one hour a week, sometimes one and a half, or one every two weeks, or two every two weeks; typically same day same time (I'm always happy to make adjustments if you work shifts)
Homework, if you can make the time for it. I typically prefer it to be finished by the middle of the week so that I have time to take a look and correct it, giving you the opportunity to give it a second try before class!
Depending on your preferences, either just a few activities so we can take our time, especially if you are a beginner, or something a bit more dynamic consisting in five to ten minute long activities to keep you motivated and alert (which seems to be a crowd's favourite as most of my students are neurodivergent).
Talking activities are typically answering series of questions I share from my Notion, talking about your week, summarising a book or a movie, making me guess a word or a person, or a concept I call "alien talk" where you explain something (like a vaccine or insurance) from scratch to a little red man.
Writing activities are often fictional (I have students create a little character on a website and we write an update about their life regularly), they can also be an overview of your month, a letter to quit your horrible job or convince Snoop Dog to marry you because you are a gold digger.
Transcribing activities, especially at the beginning, are either me reading very easy sentences so you can write them down and memorise the way things sound, then it's episodes from young children's shows, extracts from very famous movies, then we hit harder and turn to gameshows or podcasts.
Translating activities, from one language to another, are a written translation of the first page of a novel (I did the Secret History recently), or a newspapers article (we are working on this one at the moment); or an oral translation of songs lyrics, fairytales, children's books, muted captioned playthroughs of your favourite games on Youtube, etc.
Finally, a few games: silly quizzes, crosswords, Wordle and even Quordle, hangman, and sometimes we even sing if you're comfortable with that.
Here is the link of my website where you will find reviews and a list of what to send me to get the process started. A few things to know:
I try to make the activities fit your preferences: get me a list of what you like and that is what we will work on. If your first language is not English, I am happy to include it, I'm always eager to learn (I've been reviewing my Spanish this way!)
I work without cameras. I don't need to see your face, I just need a voice and a good Internet connection. All students are welcome, no matter if you have an accent, a stutter, or disabilities. Do not be afraid of being judged, there is none of that here.
I ask for your contact information to be able to do my billing, no one else sees it and no one will know if you give me the address of a building in your area if you feel more comfortable this way. If you prefer to have a lesson first and decide that you want to continue before sending me your info, that's also an option.
I have a student and a regular rate, depending on what you can afford, and we can make different arrangements if your country's rate makes it too difficult, I've done it before.
Please comment if you have a question!
Much love,
Rose

I will say this, for all it's worth, Descendants as a film series was "decent". Not great overall, but about good enough to get me to look forward to pirate Rise of Red (besides Uma and Brandy' Cinderalla and her husband showing up). The ideas behind it were pretty stellar, and had it had a better execution, I probably would have liked it more. The only reason I went into an "Anti-Descendants" hate frenzy was soley because Disney got Ever After High cancelled. I was so mad that my favorite show ended simply because the conservative mouse company wanted their franchise to be #1. To this day I still will never forgive Disney for that!
In saying this, that does not mean in any way, that you can not enjoy Descendants. It's not the series fault that EAH was demolished, as much as people who point fingers at it. Both of those shows could have co existed together normaly and we would all be happy. They both had good themes going on and interesting world building. There is no reason to trash other peoples interest when they are not the same as yours. I remember a youtuber saying something like "if you love fairytale based stories, why not encourage more stories like that being made?" Descendants will never be as good as Ever After High, to me. But that shouldn't stop others from enjoying Descendants if they want to. If anyone is to be shit talked about, it's Disney, other greedy ass corporations for doing the same thing to other shows and capitalism.

Ideas for Black!Reader Fic
I am going to try my hand again at writing. And I wanted to share some people and fandoms that I love. If you don’t know these shows/actors/franchises/movies/streamers I’m putting you on! For the following:
Princess Bride
Alice In Borderland
Johnny Depp- All his characters
Napoleon Dynamite
Cameron Monaghan- I know that there are fics out there but it’s only always his Jerome/Jeremiah roles never just him or Cal Kestis
Anthony Carrigan- I loved Anothy as Victor Zsasz
Paul Dano- There are Riddler fics but not as many for his other roles
Damsel
The Entire Cast of Hawaii Five-0 (2010) - Don’t even get me started on how good this show is! And the cast looks amazing!
Chicago Med/Fire/PD- These shows have so much potential for fanfic storylines!
The Game (2006)- Has great potential for slow burns and fluffs.
Star Wars franchise (1977-present) - I know I said Cal Kestis but there are also other characters like Anakin, Luke, Obi Wan,Boba Fett (etc.)
NCIS franchise- I honestly love this franchise and it’s characters!
Hamilton
Any/All Sports Men- Jude Bellingham,Lewis Hamilton,LaMelo Ball,Allen Iverson(etc.)
Berleezy - He’s handsome and he’s funny!
Coryxkenshin- I literally love him and his videos!
Albert Aretz (Flamingo)- Look … he may be the epitome of mediocre white man but I like what I like!
AMP- Duke Dennis, Kai Cenat, Agent 00, ChrisNxtDoor,Davis, and Fanum ( all I gotta say is love a black man from infinity to infinity🗣️)
Beta Squad- A British YouTube/ streamer group!
SOMEBROS- Berleezy, Rico, ,PG, Joe (etc.)
WWE- come on now, do I even need to explain!!!
Four Brothers- All the cast but Garrett Hedland in particular!
Peacemaker - Don’t get me wrong I love Adrian Chase but I want to see just as much Peacemaker x black!reader fics because 2 words… JOHN CENA
MAWS- New animated Superman show! Love!
Smallville - The entire cast is hot! Tbh I fell hard for Tom Welling when I was younger when he was in Cheaper By The Dozen. Plus they literally whitewashed Vixen. COME ON! Vixen is a black female hero btw. She was also with Jon (Green Lantern) at one point.
Justice League/Justice League Unlimited (2001 and 2004)- I mean I literally can’t find any Jon Stewart x black!reader fics and he was with a BLACK WOMAN!
Warner Bros Franchise (minus the looney tunes & space jam)- There are lots of popular franchises that this company has from Fast & Furious to The Matrix!
Peaky Blinders- Saw a Tommy shelby x arms dealer black!female reader fic on my previous account but even then I couldn’t find it again on that account. So it’s gone with the wind. And the cast (i.e the actors and other characters they’ve portrayed). Example: Cillian Murphy as Johnathan Crane.
Tumblr media
The Bear
FBI (All)
The good doctor
Tiktokers: Vinnie hacker

Matt Rife
Joey Bragg (Liv &Maddie) - What can I say I love dorks!
The Boys- Haven’t seen that many fics about the characters and a black reader
Once Upon A Time- I love dark fairytales sometimes because they remind me that not every story has a happy ending and you have to learn from them. But this series is good for any theme really.
Walker Texas Ranger (1993)
Top Gun
Nicolas Galitzine
Magcon: Whether you saw their vines on YouTube or vine, you know who they are
Dolan Twins
Mission Impossible
Euphoria- Entire show has great storylines with the potential of drama in fics
Shameless- Especially Carl Gallagher and Lip Gallagher
Creed- Michael B Jordan need I say more

Anime(Any kind!)- Would love to see other shows, I know hunterxhunter, aot, one piece (etc.)
Bridgerton- There is very little Bridgerton stories catered around a black reader.
Marvel- Now that’s not to say that there aren’t any in fact there are many but I never see (Tobey Maguire Spider-Man stories and it seems like everyone tends to focus on the famous Marvel characters like The Avengers but not on other aspects like X-men or better yet, heroes that haven’t even gotten their own movie but are just as amazing like Squadron Supreme , it’s equivalent to DCU’s Justice League.
Secret Invasion- Not gonna lie , I’m feening for Gravik.😳
DCEU- Another franchise that pushes its other characters to the side. For example, Hush (Thomas Elliot) is literally the epitome of Bruce Wayne gone bad!
Ross Lynch- There are so many roles that Ross did so well in Like Teen Beach Movie or Sabrina.
Highschool Musical Franchise (2006- present ) I’m not just talking about HSMTS (2019), I mean even further back than that. I don’t see any Troy Bolton x black!reader and that’s crazy. I also can’t find any Zac Efron x black!reader
Interview with a Vampire (1994) and (2022)
Austin Butler- He did well in his role as Elvis!
Vikings - There are a good amount but still!

PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT SERIES: For 8th house placements
Tumblr media
This series is especially for girls, because that's who I am and can connect to. Since it is astro linked, this is especially true for venus in 8th house/scorpio placements. It can apply to other placements too if you can connect with it. Anyway, what I share on my blog are things I have personally dealt with, so it comes from my heart and soul :)
There is something called "Female Dating Strategy". The first time I read the posts on reddit and elsewhere, it did not make any sense to me. But as I got older and wiser, I could understand everything. Even if you are not interested in dating, venus in 8th house/scorpio ladies, go check out this community. Their tips on self worth, self respect, not being clingy needy emotional will really help you. It is absolute must for venus in 8th house or scorpio because god damn they are emotional, romance obsessed, living in fairytale and taking people at face value.
8th house 💏 Psychology. I have not met a single 8th houser who was not interested in psychology. Even if they did not read books, they were still perceptive, sensitive and emotionally aware. YouTube, blogs, reddit, Quora are full of psychology related testimonials and discussions. You all need to look up what personality disorders cluster A B C mean because feelings are not facts. Just playing mind games is not enough, educate yourself. These natives are the ones to say "Who was looking for a relationship but ended up getting a degree in psychology?"
The ugly truth is that all of us have shadows. If you were born in a narcissistic/borderline family unit, please do not date until you have fixed your shadow. This is why it will help you to do some self actualization, you yandere girls. Dont, dont, dont trust people blindly, not even me.
Beware of old men. No daddy issues please. Old men looking to date young girls because they are gentlemen can go live on mars. Especially for intense women, they will ignore red flags in favour of connection and security. Old men have experience in manipulation and sweet talking. I dont care if your parents were 20 years apart, 8th houser or scorpio are going to learn big lesson if they give themselves blindly to old men. No matter how good they pretend to be. Persona is not reality.
This is it for now.

wait hiiiii hi hello bestie i didn’t know u like video essays!! i’ve been trying to find more to watch recently, do u have any other recs? about any topic 👀
HIIIIII bestie Robin, are you ready?? After harvesting my Youtube subscription and liked video lists here is what I have compiled. I'm gonna put my current top 5 video recommendations and then the rest of the list, under the cut, is organized by creator.
Why Are There So Many Confederate Vampires
The art of religious interpretation (midnight mass vs god’s not dead)
Defunctland: Walt Disney's City of the Future, E.P.C.O.T.
Hogwarts Legacy, JK Rowling, and Trans Advocacy
Cultural Inspirations in Avatar: The Last Airbender Book 1 - Water
CHANNELS
biz barclay - hilarious, brilliant, my best friend who drinks wine and weaves me long insightful stories while sitting on the dresser or in the bathtub. The vast amount of knowledge, historical
understanding snapewives: religion, fandom, sociology, & erotica
Goncharov (1973) video essay
The art of religious interpretation (midnight mass vs god’s not dead)
Xiran Jay Zhao - Author of one of my FAVE YA novels, “Iron Widow” (which is a MUST read). I always want more avatar content that focuses on cultural inspirations from trusted sources. Xiran taught me so much about the avatar universe I already loved as well as valuable critiques. They also do retellings of historical events such as- Bisexual Han Dynasty Emperors and Forgotten Warrior Queen - Fu Hao.
Cultural Inspirations in Avatar: The Last Airbender Book 1 - Water
Cultural Inspirations in Avatar: The Last Airbender Book 2 - Earth
Cultural Inspirations in Avatar: The Last Airbender Book 3 - Fire
Fundie Fridays - Jen, a leftist queer feminist, and her husband James examine different aspects of Christian fundamentalism, American conservative politics and pop culture. She has remade a lot of her older videos so make sure to watch the updated versions! She was also featured in the Amazon docuseries “Shiny Happy People” which I would HIGHLY recommend.
Vacation Bible School of Rock (3 part video series History of Contemporary Christian Music)
Ken Ham’s Creation Museum & Ark Encounter
Ask a Mortician - Caitlin Doughty!!! The adult Wednesday Addams we should have got. So compassionate, informed, and moving!! I love her work and she has taught me so much about what it means to have a relationship with death and grief. Her work deals with heavy topics and you can tell she does this work from a deeply respectful, informed place.
The Lake That Never Gives Up Her Dead
Let’s Visit the Churches Made of Human Skulls
Why are Black and White Funeral Homes STILL Separate? With Dr. Kami Fletcher
Iconic Corpse Series
Princess Weekes -  Nuanced video essays on pop culture, race, feminism, and other social issues. Takes time to break down complex concepts, their origins and material consequences. The essay on confederate vampires and the connection later made to sci-fi media like Firefly were so paradigm shifting to me!
Why Are There So Many Confederate Vampires
The Magical Negroes of Stephen King
Ro Ramdin - Poetic, biting, and introspective essays on pop culture.
Do Celebrities Hate Their Fans? (Doja Cat, Frank Ocean)
Hogwarts Legacy, JK Rowling, and Trans Advocacy
DefunctLand- History of extinct theme parks and themed entertainment experiences.
Defunctland: Walt Disney's City of the Future, E.P.C.O.T.
Disney Channel’s Theme: A History Mystery
Mina Le - Fashion, movies and pop culture
WHY IS EVERYTHING SO UGLY: The Curse of Modernism
FAIRYTALE COSTUMES: it’s giving renfaire but why?
Quinton Reviews - Extensive videos covering niche topics, most popular for Nickelodeon deep dive retrospectives.
How Documentaries Lie to You
The ICarly/Victorious Saga Playlist
TheEpicNate315 - yea i fucking love endless hours of useless skyrim lore because the conspiracies are so deep and I have to do 0 of the research to get all of the information years of scouts worked to piece together!
The Skyrim Mysteries Iceberg (Part 1 of 4)
The Fallout Mysteries Iceberg (Part 1 of 2, incomplete series)
Mike’s Mic - Silly, goofy, and thorough breakdowns of nostalgic TV shows
Any of his unhinged recaps - LOST, Pretty Little Liars, Glee
Tiffanyferg - Media criticism and commentary
Internet Analysis Series
Zoë Ligon - sex educator, artist, and writer, who also owns SpectrumBoutique.com, a health and education oriented sex toy store. Such a special place in my heart for her!! Her bondage mini-documentary with Midori was so touching.
Sex Stuff | Japanese Rope Bondage with Midori
Channels Newer to Me
Broey Deschanel - a mixture of film analyses, retrospectives, politics and just absolutely overthinking anything to do with pop culture
Elvis (2022) and the Utter Mediocrity of Biopics
Meeptop - rambling about movies and stuff
Who is Dahmer Even Made For?
LadyJenevia - discussing entertainment media content including films, television series, etc. Expect to find reviews of recent cinematic releases, video essays on older releases, and interviews with talent from the film/television industry
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and The Art of Hiding in Plain Sight (Netflix Review/Video Essay)
As a disclaimer, I am not endorsing any creator fully and if you see someone you think I should not promote please reach out to me so I can edit this list. As a general rule of thumb the more I had to write about someone, the more informed the recommendation.

Miraculous Fic Recs
Recently I've been complaining a lot on the internet how sucky the recent seasons of ML have been, and how much better the old fanfics are; I'm going to prove my point by sharing my tried-and-true rec list. Here we go.
Back To Us - Written in 2017, so some things are inaccurate. Basically Marinette, as Ladybug, kills Gabriel Agreste on accident by pushing him off the Eiffel Tower and Adrien moves to Milan. Seven years later Marinette is a rising fashion designer, her long-lost partner comes back seven years later but hot, and a new Hawkmoth shows up on the very day Adrien comes back. Suspicious. INCLUDES: Antihero!Chat. Alternate superhero names for Alya, Nino + there are only seven miraculouses which honestly I like a lot better than Ladybug just busting another one out whenever she feels like it. At one point, it was the longest fic in the fandom but now it's not even close. 446k. Requires an Ao3 account to read.
Second Chances- Again, written fairly early in the fandom. Adrien is a single dad and Alya volunteers Marinette to be his daughter's nanny - the premise sounds like it could turn out really weird but I promise it's not. Adorable adorable. INCLUDES: Past ChloexAdrien and MarinettexNathanael, and Adrien never went to school. Reverse best friends (Alya + Adrien, Mari + Nino). 105k.
Whose Woods These Are (I Think I Know) - Ladrien Cinderella AU. Super well-written in a kind of fairytale style. I honestly love this fic. 105k.
Spotty Connections - Adrienette texting fic (no miraculous AU, but does incorporate LadyNoir). Tikki & Plagg are M&A's cats. One of my favorites ever. 66k.
Film It - Adrien is a youtuber! Soon all of Twitter ships #adrienette. INCLUDES: Gabriel Agreste's A+ Parenting. Endgame Adrienette. Superheroes exist, but LB & CN aren't a huge part of this. Also worthy of note: #thatfoursome and a decent amount of Twitter formatting. This has pretty much everything I want in an Adrienette fic. 56k.
Chasing The C/h/atwalk - Project Runway AU. Marinette is a designer and Adrien... is her model. Shenanigans ensue. INCLUDES: Some LadyNoir, mostly after the identity reveal. #MarinetteInDenial. 100k. I love this fic.
Lucky Us - No Miraculous email AU. See Spotty Connections: LadyNoir incorporated without the actual superheroes. Fluff with a tiny bit of angst but still happy ending. 136k.
Secret Santa - fluff. Pure fluff; classic in the fandom. A bit cheesy and very outdated but very nice. Time for a reread. It has a sequel called New Year's Ball. 52k.
Être Majeur - horror, AU, fairly short, creepy and strange but really well-written. 24k. M for horror elements.
La Pucelle Et La Coccinelle - Absolute favorite. Explores Joan of Arc (Jeanne d'Arc in this story) with the Ladybug Miraculous. INCLUDES: Actual historical references, lore for the miraculouses, and a flashforward to the future at the end with Marinette. 38k. I have it printed out, I love it so much.
Pray For the Children You Lost Along the Way - Silent Hill AU (Emilie Anderson from the arcade game is Adrien's mom). It has been on hiatus since 2019, but is still worth a read because so many things tie together in a satisfying way. 86k. Rated M b/c of Silent Hill-type things.
Under Lock and Key - Huge classic also published on Wattpad. Author/artist collab with Maerynn & EdenDaphne - Maerynn passed away while the fic was being written and ED finished it. Very nice art by ED. I view this fic as the quintessential 2017 era Adrienette fic. Very sweet and fluffy. 34k.
Tripped at Fencing - Gabriel hits Adrien. INCLUDES: Gabriel Agreste's A+ Parenting. Accidental identity reveal (Marinette finds out first). Only 5k but a classic.
The Butterfly and Her Brother series (Generations Past and Future) - written c. 2016. Gabriel is NOT Hawkmoth; Gabriel is not a villian in the least so technically OOC. First couple are set in the 1990s, then a couple in ~2016 and the latest in like 2044. I haven't read the last one in the series but WHATHGAWAATG (Europe gets taken over), featuring the next gen of Agrestes, is really good as well. Many things are outdated/false as this was written based off of s1, but I honestly like this interpretation of the Miraculous much better than how the show does it. Mama Agreste's name is Adele (again, s1) and I quite like her character. I freaking LOVE this series. I have it downloaded to my phone and I reread it when I'm feeling sad. 340k in total, but the longest work in the series is about 166k. SO many kudos.
a fight that you were born to lose - "Adrien finds out that Gabriel is Hawkmoth, and Gabriel gets to bring his long-waited plan into action." TW abuse, emotional manipulation, forced dieting. Gabriel Agreste's A+ Parenting. Fairly short for how well-rounded it is - 17k.
An Impromptu Proposal - what it says on the tin. Reverse love square kinda: Ladynoir requited love bc Adrien never went to school. Includes identity reveal and Hawkmoth!Lila takedown. 33k.
On The Prowl - Criminal CN. Also on ffn.net. Good story and TOTALLY a classic, but also uses 'ravenette' and 'sapphire orbs' unironically. The writing is okay if a little melodramatic. 53k.
Chat Noir's White French Man Hit List For Feminist Purposes - pretty much what it says on the tin. Sentimonster!Adrien. 7.8k.
i think it's time i told you (i'm a fan of your universe) - ladynoir proposal. v v nice. Just 5k. Smidge of angst.
The Ladyblog Comment Section - what it says on the tin. 27k. Hilarity and crack.
spark - Tinder AU. Lots of Marichat. Angst with a happy ending. 49k. Slow burn w/ eventual identity reveal.
all dressed up and nowhere to go - No Miraculouses modern royalty AU - human Tikki and Plagg. Mostly DJWifi but a mild amount of adrienette and a smidge of chlogami. Includes arranged marriage Adrien x Alya but they don't end up together. "Twenty-five-year-old Marinette is a wedding dress designer, business blooming in her trusty shop, Ladybug Bridal. When the engagement of Prince Adrien Agreste and Ancient Princess Alya Césaire is announced, all she expects is an influx of work. What she gets instead is... a bit different." 35k.
tangled ribbons - Ao3. ballet/dance AU (no miraculous). Adrienette with some DJWifi and human Tikki & Plagg. "Marinette is a small studio dancer who wins a scholarship to a summer long ballet intensive. Adrien is a famous ballet dancer who would rather be at home than at said intensive. The end of the summer will bring about a showcase that could make Marinette's career, if she can ignore Chloé and focus on something other than Adrien." 82k. The slowest of burns.
Where timing is kind to us - Ao3. marichat discusses quantum physics. 4.3k. This is a beautiful one-shot with a one-sided reveal.

So, I've just watched Cinderella's Castle and, to not spoil, I really loved it ! I think it was a very refreshing fairytale after the Hatchetfield series and all its angst. I adore the Hatchetverse, but I also really loved the more classical story that is CC. For those who cannot wait the Youtube release and can afford it, I strongly recommend the digital tickets !

I watched the Storyteller version of Sapsorrow and knew it sounded familiar! I read "The Magic Fish" by Trung Le Nguyen. It's a graphic novel about a young Vietnamese boy struggling to come out to his friends and parents, particularly because they're immigrants and he feels they might not understand. His mother and him bond over fairy tales and there are three main tales in the novel that are used thematically, the first is Tattercoats (i.e; Sapsorrow), the second is a Vietnamese story Tâm Cám, and the third is the little mermaid. The Tattercoats story is a little different than the Sapsorrow Storyteller version or your version, but the art is beautiful I seriously recommend the book from the art alone (and if not the art, the Vietnamese fairy tale is kind of like Cinderella at the beginning but so interesting and full of plot twists).
I have to thank you for introducing me to Storyteller though, I'm gonna have fun looking at all their other retellings.
Oh my goodness, I know The Magic Fish! I haven't read that one in years!! Thank you for reminding me it exists, sweet snail. I adore it.
Tumblr media
Of the Storyteller Series (1988), I have littered some of the plot points in several others.
Remember Me: (Shanks x Bride!Reader), I had "the true bride" in mind. Particularly her apprehension at having her hair touched. In the story in that case, it was a promise to not let another person kiss their cheek - in mine it was a sweep of the hair.
Drawing inspiration from things that impact your heart is so much fun. Makes it all the more real, in my humble opinion.
There are only nine episodes: (All are linked to YouTube for ease)
The Soldier and Death
Fearnot
The Luck Child
A Story Short
Hans My Hedgehog
The Three Ravens
Sapsorrow
The Heartless Giant
The True Bride
I would honestly love to write an OP fic for each of these.
Soldier and Death - Zoro He traps death, now unable to die. He has lived his life to the fullest, but death is the only thing that truly fears him. Reader is the reaper, ordered by Death to not claim him. Fearnot - Luffy He's just a sunshine boy who has never been frightened a day in his life. He wants to experience fear. Just once. The Luck Child - Buggy He is a failing forward king, as the usual. Circumstances demand his death, he continues to thrive. A Story Short - Usopp He has to perform a series of storytelling adventures and present them towards the court for a hundred days. On the hundredth day, he has come up with nothing. What will he do? Hans My Hedgehog - Corazon He will only reveal himself to his wife at night, cursed as a monster within the hours of daylight. She wants to break him of this curse, but has no knowledge to help him. The Three Ravens - Sanji Just imagine Sanji desperately crying out for his love to grace him with the sound of her voice, begging her to say something to aid in her defence - bound to the stake and threatened with death if she does not speak. Ahhhhh. Screaming. Sapsorrow - The one I'm actively working on with Mihawk The Heartless Giant - Doflamingo Speaks for itself, truly. He just is. I could also do this for Sir Crocodile, if I wasn't too busy shipping him with @empressofmankind's Shivs. The True Bride - Already partially did for Shanks. I would love to visit this trope again for him though. Have him be the one with amnesia trope.
Honestly, I would love to do this as a massive moot fairytale collaborative au.
@since-im-already-here - what say you, sis? You reckon I've got the characters and the prompts down for each series?
@gingernut1314, do you know this jim henson series? You want to take a crack at one of them?
@writingmysanity - go on. I know you want to do the Corazon. You so, so want to do the Corazon.
@sordidmusings 👀 c'mon now. Romance, pining. Angst. All that good stuff, dear.
@feral-artistry, you've even already drawn some puppets. You know you want to....

Author Questionnaire Tag Game
Tagged by @tryingtimi and figured I'd give this gauntlet a go, lol.
Tumblr media
About Me
When did you start writing?
Very, very young. I'd say about 6. I used to get on the computer and type out storylines similar to the animated movies I was watching (some mixture of Disney stuff lol) so they were kind of fairytale-oriented then I later moved into Neopets territory and then outright fanfic. I started writing seriously in my late teens to early 20s. Before that it was exclusively something I did for fun.
Are there genres/themes you enjoy reading different to the ones you write?
I used to read a lot of contemporary fiction though I've started reading a lot more fantasy in order to write it better. But my background in reading is very heavily oriented towards contemporary fiction and classics. It's weird now because I find I can't... get into contemp as much anymore. Part of that might be to do with how much I feel alienated and disenchanted with the real world, idk. Indie has gotten me into more things I otherwise wouldn't have touched like romance and horror (the latter I'm not opposed to on principle it's just not something I would pick up on its own) and I'm grateful for the expansion.
Is there an author you want to emulate, or one to whom you're often compared?
Before I read Patricia McKillip I would say no but she absolutely has what I want in one package. I admire her greatly. I wouldn't say I've ever been compared to an author but I'm open to comparisons if anyone has any.
Can you tell me a little about your writing space?
I do a lot of my writing at my desk with my desktop or on my laptop in my bed. I also write on my phone (blasphemy) but I suppose my desk is my "writing space" as it were and it's very cluttered ever since I start publishing with an array of stuff I use to run a business out of my bedroom.
What's your most effective way to muster up some muse?
Reading excerpts of books that have inspired me or re-watching scenes on Youtube of dialogue and characterisation that strikes the mood I want to bring to my own scenes. I find this helps overcome the "empathy gap" because I'm not a very emotive person. I'm very rational and what some people call "repressed".
Did the place(s) you grew up in influence the people and places you write about?
I suppose the family dynamics I write but I never really considered it until other people started talking about it in terms of "oh, it'd be nice if some families weren't dysfunctional" to me it's the normal families that are weird, even growing up with my childhood friends it was very abnormal for anyone to have like a stable two-parent dynamic. Perhaps this is just a class/background kind of thing but I write what feels emotionally true and familiar to me.
Are there any recurring themes of your writing, and if so, do they surprise you at all?
Self vs society, power vs love, escaping the constraints of a toxic community to seek liberation. And it's not really a surprise why that would crop up continually because it relates to things that I've continually had to grapple with in my own life.
My Characters
Would you please tell me about your current favourite character?
Laila Rose. She's the protagonist of my fantasy series and I love her to pieces. We've been through a lot together and even when I eventually stop writing her I will probably always love her the best and the most and want to continue her journey. Working up the courage to say goodbye to her has been immensely difficult, more than I anticipated. It's like trying to part ways with my soulmate. I feel like I've spoken at length on why I love her and I don't really want to repeat myself so please read The Essence of the Equinox and I hope you'll come to love her too.
Which of your characters do you think you'd be friends with in real life?
I'd definitely befriend Lyra, she'd be a riot honestly. Laila I'd be too intimidated by in real life to even think of approaching. Maybe I'd befriend Sabina as well, I could fix her, but not many of the others.
Which of your characters would you dislike most if you met them?
Dominus. He's pretty much like... everything I hate rolled into one package.
Tell me more about the process of coming up with your characters.
I often get inspired by favourites in media and I pluck pieces of them and fit them together like a little puzzle until it becomes one definable template and then I sort of keep expanding that puzzle piece by adding little bits here and there. Dialogue, voice, ways of moving and emoting, until they become real to me.
Do you notice any recurring themes/traits among your characters?
A lot of them are not very "likeable" people. They're not underdogs. They're not bastions of purity and goodness. They fuck up a lot. They hurt people, even and including those they love, they can have unchecked bigotry, they lie and cheat and scheme. But they're all very real and human in a way that, again, feels true to me. For me a character is defined more by their flaws than by their virtues.
How do you picture your characters?
Some are more vivid than others but once I get a face claim something clicks in my mind and it's like I'm seeing them even clearer than before.
My Writing
What's your reason for writing?
It's just a part of me. It's like asking me why I eat or sleep. It's a compulsion and it makes me feel useful, accomplished, grounded. The fact that all of my current friendships stem from me writing doesn't feel like a coincidence because it connects me to the world in a way I wouldn't bother indulging if I didn't write.
Is there any specific comment or type of comment you find particularly motivating coming from your readers?
I don't get many comments from readers but my closest friends reached that level by showing that they spent a lot of time truly thinking and dissecting and ruminating on what I write and why I choose to write it that way. When I get a lengthy comment from them showing that they've truly turned something over in their head or pointed out themes or little hints I've tried to pepper through... it makes me feel seen and appreciated.
How do you want to be thought of by those who read your work?
I want to be seen as talented, of course, I want to be seen as someone who is skilled in my craft and meticulous with detail. I want to be seen as an accomplished wordsmith. And I work very hard to try and attain that standard for myself.
What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer?
I think it's being very visually-oriented. I really feel like I can paint a scene with my words in a small amount of them, especially when I discover that right combination.
What have you been frequently told by others is your greatest strength as a writer?
People have said it's crafting immersive imagery, whether that's with food or settings or even when it comes to eroticism and sex. I'm very sensory-driven as a writer and I want to really transport you somewhere else when you read.
How do you feel about your own writing?
I think that I'm good but that I can be much better and that's always the mindset that I carry into my work. I internalise criticism a lot although I'm also very good at pushing back against it if I don't fully agree but whenever I sit down to write something I always think "how can I make this much better than the last piece I've written" and I do think I've accomplished that.
If you were the last person on earth and knew your writing would never be read by another human, would you still write?
Yes, because honestly my writing isn't nearly so dependent on external validation as I thought it was. I used to think the thing I wanted most to be read and adored and while I do long for recognition it's more about being awarded for merit and being acclaimed for hard work, talent, and vision. I do sometimes get sad when people don't love my work and I took it quite hard when I first published When the Stars Alight, I will admit that. But I've found that I've come to terms with being constantly at odds with the world, having less popular tastes and interests and viewpoints, and I feel like my writing is just an extension of that. So rejection was not only to be expected but accepted. I myself will still always love my stories deeply and think that they're great stories worth being shared with the world regardless of what anyone else thinks.
When you write, are you influenced by what others might enjoy reading, or do you write purely what you enjoy? if it’s a mix of the two, which holds the most influence?
Before I published? Absolutely not. But as a businesswoman I have to be a bit more shrewd. I never write entirely to market tastes because it'll stifle my authentic voice and I don't really think I could do a paint-by-numbers job without my lack of passion showing. But I do weigh up a lot of my ideas based on what I've seen work commercially a lot more than I did before going indie. At the end of the day I'm a pragmatic creature who will do what needs to be done.

Alice in Wonderland - Movie archive
(This has sat in my drafts since 2018 but *somebody* wanted to see it and I can't link to unpublished drafts so here we are)
I think there is a list out there somewhere but when I last saw it it was rather outdated so I thought I’ll make my own.
I tried to gather all the movie adaptations of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland here.
Tumblr media
1903 - Alice in Wonderland
First ever movie adaptation, directed by Cecil Hepworth. Alice is played by Mary Clark. About 9 minutes survived out of original 12, sadly.
Language: silent
Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeIXfdogJbA
1910 - Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
This one is often said to be lost but it’s on youtube... Made by the Edison Manufacturing Company, stars Gladys Hulette as Alice. The character designs are Tenniel-based, they are live-action versions of the original illustrations.
Language: silent
Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJxPDs8Q--Y
1915 - Alice in Wonderland
First American adaptation. Viola Savoy as Alice, director W.W. Young. The animal costumes are pretty amazing in this one.
Language: silent
Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSQ2w9WeNDQ
1931 - Alice in Wonderland
Small budget film. Stars Ruth Gilbert as Alice, who is really sweet and stares at the camera a scary lot. Never got popular but it’s great...
Language: English
Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jH24yRuHfEU
1933 - Alice in Wonderland
A Paramount Pictures production, it was the ,,official live action version”. It was big really when it came out. Charlotte Henry as Alice.
Language: English
Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WY7M42Fk9Qo
1934 - Betty in Blunderland
A Betty Boop film. Betty falls asleep while doing an Alice in Wonderland jigsaw puzzle, end up in Wonderland and sings and dances with the classic characters.
Watch here (original): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lf6RohRVKBY
Watch here (colorized): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRhBtRaIKc4
1949 - Alice au Pays des Merveilles
This might be the first colorful Alice movie. Really interesting animation. Was banned in Britain for a while because they thought the Queen of Hearts was a mockery of Queen Victoria. Carol Marsh as Alice.
Language: French / English
Watch here (Fr): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jPbelf_-XM
Watch here (En): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rA-WJFK3DgU
1951 - Alice in Wonderland
The good old Disney classic. Not much to say here. I was horrified to death by this movie as a child, fun fact.
Language: Originally English
Watch here: https://kisscartoon.ac/Cartoon/Alice-in-Wonderland/Movie?id=1967 (warning, site is full of ads, don’t click anything - most of them will be very NSFW)
1954 - Kraft Television Theatre’s Alice in Wonderland
A recording of a live performance, but still technically a film. The Kraft Television Theatre was a TV series that presented different plays each week. Robin Morgan as Alice.
Language: English
Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-ka4honG5s
1955 - Alice in Wonderland
A TV adaptation of the 1932 Broadway version. A shame that most of it is lost, it looked lovely based on the couple of minutes of it I could find.
Watch here (first three minutes): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1dkSEULhkU
1966 - Alice in Wonderland (or What's a Nice Kid Like You Doing in a Place Like This?)
I could find the audio but not the animation of this one, apparently it has never been released on video or dvd or anything. The usual story, characters singing and stuff.
Listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RY1y36Eks6Q
1966 - Alice in Wonderland
Jonathan Miller’s Alice is something else. It’s surreal and creepy and confusing and beautiful, all that without any costumes. Now I might be a tiny bit biased because I love the heck out of this movie, haha.
Watch here: https://vimeo.com/84173613
1972 - Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
This one is very fairytale-like, and instead of fictional Alice, Alice Liddell herself is the one dreaming the dream. We even get to see Carroll as a character.  It won a whole bunch of awards.
Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kz6YdGgGoYA
1973 - Alice in Wonderland (Festival of Family Classics episode)
A little animated thing that used to air on children’s TV channels.
Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVxw4MFSQWQ
1976 - Alice in Wonderland: An X-Rated Musical Comedy
Exactly what it says on the tin. It’s porn but it’s Alice in Wonderland and they sing. Goes without saying, don’t watch if you are underage.
Watch here: https://www7.fmovies.se/film/alice-in-wonderland-an-x-rated-musical-fantasy.7798/m  (don’t click on ads or anything if you don’t want your computer dead)
1981 - Alisa v Strane Chudes
An animated film from the USSR. Really pretty art, surreal colors.
Watch here (Russian with English subtitles): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oym9aw-Iso
1982 - Alisa v Zazerkale
Second part of the previous on the list, based on the second Alice book, with the same peculiar animation.
Watch here (Russian): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEP4vX0ISHI
1982 - Alice at the Palace
A TV recording of Elizabeth Swados’s musical. Stars Meryl Streep as Alice.
Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90Y15Crljk4
1982 - Alicja
A very odd live action musical adaptation of the original story. It only took the symbolism of Wonderland, not the plot. Alice is all grown up, and falls for a man named Rabbit. The plot is difficult to follow, oftentimes makes no sense. TW: suicide attempt.
Watch here (English with Polish subtitles): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgZYzG96RKQ
1983 - Alice in Wonderland
The old Broadway version. Very true to the original book. Young Kate Burton as a lovely Alice.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69BootOOHLk
1983 - Fushigi no Kuni no Arisu
An anime series based on both Alice books. Was very popular in Asia.
Watch all episodes here (English): https://kissanime.ac/Anime/Alice-in-Wonderland-Dub/
1985 - Alice in Wonderland
Anglia TV’s miniseries. Live action meets puppets. Uses the original dialogue and word from the books.
Watch here:
Episode 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwugRCVjBIo
Episode 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zs7GgvU-15g
Episode 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-erJ-2TYJn0
Episode 4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkvpTLnCv7s
Episode 5: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKG4EJc653A&t=2s
1985 - Alice in Wonderland
This one was made for television, colorful and lovely sets and costumes.
Watch here (English with Portugese subtitles):
Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKkv3pAJ0x0&t=5s
Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OThIhfsUnHI
1985 - Dreamchild
This movie is from the point of view of old Alice Liddell (now Mrs Haregraves), and how she begins to remember her childhood, Lewis Carroll, and Wonderland. TW: pedophilia - nothing explicit, but it made me very uncomfortable so thought I’d mention.
Watch here: https://www7.fmovies.se/film/dreamchild.jv1q2/1zyv4p (again, don’t click on ads or anything if you don’t want your computer dead)
1986 - Alice in Wonderland
A BBC miniseries in four parts by Barry Letts.
I could not find it online.
1987 - Alice Through the Looking Glass
Only slightly based on the book, an Australian animated film.
Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lS24PF182V0
1988 - Alice in Wonderland
Another Australian animation. The same company produced it as the 1987 Through The Looking Glass.
Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86p1eC6IPCE
1988 - Něco z Alenky / Alice
A Czech movie. Not a sweet fairytale, but something actually out of a dream. Surreal, creepy, strange. Personal favorite. :)
Watch here (Czech with English subtitles): https://www7.fmovies.se/film/alice.n1zk/pw23xj (again, don’t click on anything)
1995 - Alice in Wonderland
Another animated version, by Jetlag Producions. Alice wears pink. The animation style is exactly the same as in the old My Little Pony movies, or at least that’s what it remind me of...
Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfRAL0AgzGs&t=68s
1998 - Alice Through The Looking Glass
Family fantasy movie, very true to it’s genre, colorful, a bit tacky. This time Alice is a mother who falls asleep while reading a bedtime story.
Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGM7aiQkAAI
1999 - Alice in Wonderland
The special effects are slowly starting to catch up to Carroll’s imagination. They tried and they succeeded but I feel like they tried too hard... Oh also it’s nearly three hours long.
Watch here: https://www7.fmovies.se/film/alice-in-wonderland.xjpo3/my13jz (don’t click the ads)
2010 - Alice in Wonderland
Tim Burton’s version. ,,Nineteen-year-old Alice returns to the magical world from her childhood adventure, where she reunites with her old friends and learns of her true destiny.”
Watch here: https://watchcartoonsonline.la/watch-alice-in-wonderland-2010-full-movie/ (don’t click ads and close pop-up windows quickly)
2015 - CBeebies Alice in Wonderland
A TV recording of an Alice in Wonderland children’s show.
Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dq6FO0Q3D6w
