What are your thoughts on transformers prime and transformers one?
TL:DR I liked both! TFP was my first Transformers show that I watched all the way through and TF1 was a lot of fun! Opinions on Starscream under the break pfpfpfpfpfpf
Prime was literally my first Transformers experience (Okay that's not true, I did see the first Bay movie when it came out but lets not talk about that). It's really good! My favorite character was Ratchet, I loved that he's just a tired, grumpy, racist old man and he's a doctor. Knock Out was the best thing to come out of TFP and he really should be in more stuff. Really would have loved a fourth season but it wouldn't have been the same without the children around. I liked what we got!
Prime has an excellent Starscream, Steve Blume does an amazing performance with both his deep conniving gravel and his high pitched terrified sputtering. So much character in his animation too, especially in later seasons, and an incredibly compelling character arc. Prime Starscream is not a good person, but I would burn the world for him, and I like the small moments in the show that hint at something in his character that could be turned to good, but circumstance always works against him in that regard. He's just so pathetic, but also competent and dangerous, all the best qualities of a Starscream and a very unique design!
Transformers One was quite good, I was worried because of the trailers but I was surprised by how well executed it all was. None of the characters were annoying, and making Optimus Prime originally one of the oppressed class alongside Megatron was a good move. The scene where Orion gives Dee the sticker is so cute, I simply cannot. The ending felt a bit rushed but what can you do, it wasnt so bad that it's a problem for me.
I would have loved just a little more Starscream in the movie! Like, I knew he wasn't really gonna be in the movie much so i was prepared for it to be little more than a glorified cameo, but I loved a lot of what we did get and I feel like it was missing just a little bit more! Like, the whole High Guard turned rogue backstory he has is great, implies some honor to his character since he didnt keep serving Sentinal when the guy turned Cybertron over to the Quintissance. I think it's hilarious that Starscream is so much older than Megatron. Like, they gave us a lot of food to make headcanons out of, but then the rushed ending kind of left me with no real reason given for him and the rest of the High Guard to go with Megatron without a fight. Like, I think the reason given was that, because Megatron beat him up that one time, and then killed Sentinal, and since the High Guard became a might makes right society and hates Sentinal, I guess thats why they are loyal to him now. And I guess the one line where Starscream is like "all hail megatron" is supposed to indicate he's 100% behind Megatron now and not just a spur of the moment thing. And I guess them following his command to destroy the city is why theyre being banished. But like...idk, every other plot point was well established and properly played out, and the whole decepticons thing just didnt really feel like enough, and i kind of feel like it should have been more clearly communicated considering its an entire one side of a two sided war? I feel like we werent shown the high guard doing anything egregiously bad besides attacking people because megatron told them to.
Like, there's nothing in the movie to suggest that Starscream and the High Guard arent still loyal to the Primes. So when Orion comes back as a prime, like a proper prime, with the matrix and everything, which everyone knows will make the energon flow again, I'm surprised Starscream didnt at least try to make excuses or worm his way into avoiding banishment? My headcanon is he wanted to kill Sentinal as bad as Megatron and so when Megatron finally does what he failed to do for 50 cycles, he's like aite im ride or die for this guy. Maybe 50 cycles of living in the wilderness doing nothing but scout and pit fight all day changes a guy and they dont wanna live in a society anymore. Why dont they accept Optimus as the new prime? They helped him and Elita save their friends, and unlike Sentinal Optimus has the actual Matrix this time. Idk mang. Woulda liked a bit more.
Transformers One, not my favorite design for Starscream. The head vents going wide at the bottom look weird to me, and his legs are so long and flat.
Thems my opinions!

I'd say Papyrus's biggest "flaw" is that he consistently underestimates people's capacity for harm, or overestimates his own capacity for good, maybe? Though it's not really him being simply naive, because he's aware of his choices, but i think he might have a bit too much faith in his ability to help others change. I could see him potentially being one of those people who get into a relationship with someone else to try and "fix" them despite the active disadvantages. i am saying this because i also tend to think like that
I might have worded it a bit poorly, of course each character has their own flaws but I regard each character's biggest flaw as the thing the game actively pushes against or presents as something the character needs to overcome.
Toriel, for example, is a very avoidant individual who is afraid of losing her children but won't actually take steps to confront or tackle her problems head on, because it is much easier to ignore them and create a life for herself in the Ruins where she can pretend everything is alright. By the end of the game she learns to be okay with vulnerability and uncertainty, and is able to let go of her fear and leave her hideaway in the Ruins for the first time in centuries.
Alphys is a character who deals with a lot of self loathing and doesn't reach out to anyone about it because she intrinsically assumes the people around her hate her as much as she hates herself. She goes out of her way to fabricate situations that make herself look better because she doesn't actually believe she can naturally be a person that someone would like and look up to. But by the end of the game she learns to be okay with reaching out to others for help even if she doesn't think she's deserving of it.
Etc, etc.
In Papyrus' case, his willingness to believe in others is never presented as a bad thing. No Mercy Papyrus is not in the wrong for thinking you can do better-- YOU'RE in the wrong for taking advantage of his vulnerability to kill him. There is a reason he's represented by the Integrity soul; he sticks to his guns in the face of danger and puts everything on the line to reach out a hand to you when nobody else would. He is the one character that goes against the "kill or be killed" mentality the game presents.
And of course there is an argument to be made about him being TOO trusting of others, like when Flowey manipulates Papyrus into getting everyone in one place so he can launch his attack. But that sort of loops back around to the previous point; Papyrus isn't portrayed as in the wrong for trusting Flowey-- but Flowey IS in the wrong for using Papyrus for his own purposes. When Undyne talks about Papyrus not being able to handle a Royal Guard title because his kindness would get him killed, we're not supposed to side with her.
This IS Undertale we're talking about. Papyrus doesn't go through an arc of learning to believe in others Less, because in the context of Undertale, it's not a bad trait for him to have.
Of course, things don't work exactly like that in the real world. Undertale is a fantasy game with fantasy rules where nobody was forced to die in the happy ending because of Magic and Friendship.
And in the real world, there ARE people who will take advantage of your kindness to hurt and abuse you. And putting yourself in a situation where you are constantly exerting yourself to extend an olive branch to someone who will keep hurting you regardless IS an unhealthy way to deal with these situations. (I mean-- not YOU specifically anon, more of a general royal You.) We all have different reactions to abuse and it is more nuanced than "be kind no matter what", of course.
But in the situations he was put in throughout Undertale, he never really made the objectively "wrong" choice when he decided to believe in the inherent goodness of people. Papyrus isn't fawning over an abuser, he's extending a hand to someone who, in his eyes, isn't aware of what they're doing. He KNOWS when a situation is dangerous and knows how to navigate it.
I guess what I'm getting at is, Undertale is not written for you to think it's okay that Papyrus put his trust in someone and got harmed because of it-- because Frisk isn't chastised for this, either. The game isn't written for you to think that Papyrus' hurt was somehow "deserved" because he was "too trusting". That it's somehow a little more justified to hurt him because he shouldn't have been such a pushover. Because, he's not a pushover. He's the only thing that pushes back against you when you decide to Kill or Be Killed. Yannow

Hi! Hope your having a great day/night!
I saw your headcanon post for Nezha and I'm really amazed on how you talk/characterize him, I really wanna write about him alongside ao bing but I don't wanna make the mistakes you've pointed out in your post so do you have any tips or just things to avoid writing about his character? And how to characterize him? I've genuinely come to love him as a character and deity so I'd hate to butcher his character in favour of my own ideas
Um...
This is hard to answer, but I gotta say, it's a HC post and one I said is "probably in Unpopular Opinion territory" for a good reason, because it's a specific characterization of Nezha, informed by the specific context that is FSYY novel.
What I pointed out are not "mistakes" per se, just portrayals I personally don't like, and if you are writing for an adaptation where Nezha has a different backstory, none of what I said would apply.
And I get this feeling where people's complaints about what they don't like feel like a "objective mistakes to avoid" list——heck, I'm no less prone to it, but still:
It isn't a mistake if the characterization makes sense in the story you want to tell, and is true to his in-story background, even if that may not be a story I personally prefer.
(But really, no story can be liked by everyone.)
Having said all that, I do have a list of things about FSYY Nezha people don't pay a lot of attention to, and wish to see more in fanfics.
One, he's sassy. Just because his murderdeathkill instincts get a little more restrained post-attempted patricide doesn't mean he's gonna be any less bratty towards his enemies, and he's the major contributor of sassy one-liners in the novel.
Two, he has other friends. Maybe not at the age of 7, but during the WOI, he has become quite close with the other Chan juniors (Yang Jian, Huang Tianhua, etc). Even if your sole ship is Oubing, I'd still like to see how his other relationships interact with this one.
Three, he is both violent and willing to take full responsibilities for what he did.
Like, his view of right and wrong is very close to the black-and-white logic of "Break prohibitions, get Peril'ed" of Fate: from his POV, if you did a bad thing and let an equally bad thing happen to you, then the bad is cancelled out, and continuing to have hard feelings about it is a stupid thing that gets you Investiture'd.
Which may have contributed to his anger during the Attempted Patricide Arc, because Li Jing burning down his temple falls squarely into the "We don't owe each other shit anymore, why's he still holding a grudge?" category.

Hi...if you don't mind, can I ask something from BNHA? What do you think are Toga and Uraraka’s greatest personality strengths and weaknesses? Why? What do you love about their dynamic? Since what moment that you start shipping them? Sorry if you've answered these questions before.....
Hellooo dnana!! I don't mind getting questions, so don't be shy!!!
one thing i've always loved about uraraka is her willingness to help others and also her empathy. she would never hesitate to help anyone, no matter who it was. i also really liked her backstory, and how she was fighting so that her parents wouldn't have to worry about money in the future. it's something admirable.
which is something funny cause to me, one of her weak points is precisely her empathy and your need to help others. she's always thinking about others, doing everything for the others and this becomes a problem when she ends up not thinking about herself. It is very noticeable how much she avoids talking about her feelings, this becomes more visible when toga dies and she goes to cry on the terrace alone, without asking anyone for help how to deal with all this pain.
her need to help others can end up becoming a bad thing when she realizes that she often cannot help others all the time, which ends up becoming frustrating for her and she blames herself for not being able to help even though she does everything she can. and when I say help others, I mean both ways: saving their lives or trying to help them in small things

Now, talking about toga: she's been one of my favorite characters for a long time, I liked how she expressed herself and how she didn't hate heroes at all (at the beginning of the anime). and I love how little by little we saw more of her backstory and understood why she acted that way, because until then many people considered her a "crazy psychopath yandere"

one great thing about toga is simply the fact that she loves, and that's it. I think it's beautiful how she loves everyone who has blood running through their veins, and as if it were her way of saying that everyone can be loved, including her. she's not afraid to express her love and to say that she loves someone (even if it is in her own way). also she was not afraid to try to be herself, even when her parents and old school friends told her she was weird and a demon. It may not have been the "right way", but she tried, she wanted a world where she and her friends from the league of villains could smile. and i think that's beautiful after all.
and her weak point is: not facing the past
toga avoids her past, avoids talking about what happened because it is something sad and scary. this becomes a mistake when we realize that not talking about what happened in the past can influence the present.
In the final arc, before she dies, she finally faces the demons of her past with ochako, and we realize that there is still a lot of stuff stored away, especially hurt. we finally managed to understand that she's not a bad person, she was just lost and wanted to find someone who understood her. and that she never wanted to hurt someone and steal their blood, she wanted to ask but knew that if she did, they would call her a demon.

I've been shipping them since 2019 (when I started MHA) and i just loved the hero x villain dynamic, it was something cool for me. as the story progressed, I started to like how toga seemed to genuinely like ochako (more than she apparently liked deku) and how uraraka seemed curious about toga, and that she wasn't really afraid of her (which later turned out to be canon)

this shipp is something sweet to me, how ochako sought to know about toga and how she didn't give up until the end. and how toga was so hurt but allowed herself to open up to ochako and talk about what happened. I'm sure if they had a chance... things would have been different.
#This ship is everything to me#I love them so much#anon asks#I loved answering these questions#don't worry about sending me more!!!#togachako#toga himiko#ochako urakara#bnha#mha#bnha spoilers#season 7#my hero academia#boku no hero academia

I would like to read the rant.
okay okay so
i've been working on my 'season 2 kaldur corruption-arc, enemies-with-benefits kaldur/savage' fic for. uh. six years, I guess? And I guess this will count as spoilers of a sort for where everything is going but!
Kaldur's whole season 3 arc, to me, is spent highlighting the lessons he took from the invasion-arc and how they've permanently altered the way/with who he interacts closely with. Those lessons being:
lying to your friends is a reasonable strategy that yields pretty good results under the right circumstances
brutal self-sacrifice is something you should commit to and never willingly talk about
the people that love you will do so to their own detriment and its not your fault if they trust you
that killing people (or brain-wiping your friends) is 100% justified under the right circumstances
that allowing the masses to make their own choices against their best interest is less important than global security
that ethics are well and good but results (avoiding mass-enslavement/extinction) are a perfectly acceptable reason to sell your own soul and put your loved ones in danger
that none of the high stakes you're playing for absolve you of the fact that everything you do is 100% still your responsibility and that, as the person making decisions, you are 100% culpable for everything that happens and are, in fact, a bad person
The conversation with Dolphin mid-season (when Kaldur is actively deceiving his friends, again, and putting them in danger because he sees their own innocence and the current stakes as too important to let them be active participants in the choices he is making on their behalf) about how Kaldur clearly believes himself to be a bad man really drove it home for me: Kaldur thinks the shit he pulled in S2/S3 makes him evil, but he's still 100% committed to the path he picked because he sees it as the only safe option for protecting the world AND he's arrogant enough to think he has a right to make those choices on everyone's behalf.
All this to say: he and Vandal Savage would have a FASCINATING sexual/intimate relationship.
Short version of why I think Savage and Kaldur should hate fuck:
Savage and Kaldur are narrative foils, esp in S3
It gives Kaldur a legitimate target for his increased propensity towards brutality/violence
Savage LOVES manipulating people and Kaldur would make a very juicy target for 'future chess piece'
it would add a spicy extra level of angst to Kaldur's swing towards utilitarianism that would be very fun to watch him angst over (a 'we're not so different, you and I' speech would be DELIGHTFUL)
its hot, okay. I'm a sucker for villain/hero dynamics where the mutual respect for competency is a big part of the attraction and while they are enemies there's a respect for one another as threats that is just. really, really hot.
Long Version:
During Summit (penultimate ep of S2 when Kaldur does the big reveal about his duplicity), Savage singles Kaldur out as the person who has done the most damage to his plans in 50,000 years. As a character who habitually collects/forms friendships with highly competent rivals, I think him and Kaldur having a hero/villian relationship would be FASCINATING.
Kaldur is a utilitarian. Savage is one, too. How do you balance the potential of many with the agency of those who need help now? If your central ethical tenant is to do the most good for the most people, how do you apply that in a scale that stretches across 50,000 years and several galaxies without becoming a monster?
If you're the guy charges with assigning the League's limited resources to an increasing number of climate disasters, wars, and alien incursions, how do you sleep every night knowing you've, in very real terms, decided who will live and who will die on a daily basis? Add that to putting your friends' and young mentees' lives on the line.
Kaldur is pulled back and forth during the entirety of the show by his loyalty and attachment in opposition to his sense of duty and lack of self-empathy. Just because he loves someone or something it doesn’t mean they get to be more important. Just because something hurts him personally it doesn’t mean it outweighs the harm to others. It's why he’s an excellent spy—and its why Vandal Savage would conceivable want him as his next chess piece.
Similarly, Savage displays genuine sentimentality towards his children even when killing one of them to maintain his power. You (and Savage) could make the argument that, 50,000 years down the line, Kaldur would be the exact kind of villain that Savage is right now.
I've long HC'd that when Kaldur made the choice to go undercover he mentally cut out the parts of him that could get him killed or cause the mission to fail. Sentiment, self preservation, any dream or hope for his own future. He’s always lacked in self-regard or empathy, and now he’s weaponized it into a blade that cuts three ways.
So Savage’s utilitarian appreciation of him would flatter the tatters of his ego: Kaldur is a sword, and Vandal Savage appreciates nothing better than a well-honed weapon. This is where some of the mutual attraction comes from.
Then, in the aftermath of Endgame, while Kaldur tries to handle the stress of re-taking the team and building his shattered relationships, Kaldur is also dealing with unraveling the mental construct that got him through the war.
These are the options for his new, post-Invasion reality:
His relationships are important, because he is not a weapon. If he is not a weapon, then he had choices. If he made choices, then sometimes they were the wrong ones and he bears the responsibility for that.
If he willingly engaged in a violent, mutually destructive relationship with Vandal Savage (a man who is free and is under no obligation to protect Kaldur’s reputation), then that was a choice. There is a part of him that wanted it or needed it.
Alternately, as I think we saw a glimpse of in S4:
Kaldur is still a weapon, he is still a tool, his purpose remains utilitarian. He doesn’t have to rebuild relationships or reconcile because he, unlike real people, does not need love. He performed excellently without it.
He does not need support (aka vulnerability). If he isn’t a person, not really, then he doesn’t have to deal with what happened to him. So there is a part of him, in the aftermath, that would like everyone to stop. Stop talking at him, to him, stop pretending to care. When did they ever, before his farce? It's not his fault that his actions make others uncomfortable. They’re alive because of what he sacrificed, so he will not sit here, in the safety of a peace he bartered himself (soul, body, and mind) for and be lectured.
And who is the person, esp during S3 while Kaldur is the head of the league, who is posed diametrically opposite Kaldur but who still ultimately has similar goals re: maintaining Earth's independence?
Vandal. Fucking. Savage.
Esp if we didn't have the third-act introduction of Wyynde and Dolphin as Kaldur's emotional anchors (both of whom are only able to fulfill this role because they didn't KNOW Kaldur pre-Invasion and Kaldur can't hold the idea that they're clinging to memories of the man he used to be against them), Kaldur would be incredibly vulnerable to a mutually-violent hatefucking thing with Savage, in part because Savage is someone who respects Kaldur's prowess and would never, ever pity him (we saw in S4 with both Dick and Kaldur's parents how much Kaldur recoils at even the SUGGESTION of pity).
Anyway, that my incoherent spiel on why Savage and Kaldur should have a mutually destructive hate-boning thing. Hope you enjoyed, and would love to hear any other takes.

Gen 8 pt 2, the rivals. There's a bunch of rivals this go around, weirdly 4 of them being tied to solo types. It's not a bad idea I guess, it could just be better.
Warning: I will not hold back my hatred for Hop on a personality. If you hate that, leave.
Gotta start the list with this annoying asshole. "Oh but Hop is my favorite!!!! You can't say mean things about him! He's my comfort character!" Fuck off and get better taste, dude, the design is good, not him.
First off, while I'm on this trail of negativity, Hop is just Hau 2 but somehow more annoying. Picks the weaker starter, EVERY BATTLE praising you for hitting with a type effectiveness, battles you every few feet and is way too nice about it- the thing is he ALMOST has a fun character arc after losing to Bede and you in the Pokemon League. Both of us burst his bubble in a way that on any realistic person would have warranted SOME response beyond a frown or smile. Where is the crash out? Where is the resentment? Where is the anger from losing over and over? Where's the FURY from having your dream taken from you by your best friend!? It's so unrealistic and such a let down that could have made for a pretty interesting character development, but once again, Pokemon writers wanted to give the bare, absolute BARE god damn minimum in this game and just made him your best friend again for the third time in a row (Hau, Trace). I honestly don't understand people praising his character so much- okay, him experimenting with his team a bit is actually cool, him getting and KEEPING the other legendary wolf is also cool, him deciding to drop all the bullshit bravado of being the best and trying to become a professor instead is great! But the annoying, constant pop ups, the constant battles, the way too cheery attitude as we destroy his hopes and dreams right in front of his very eyes???? His own best friend??? "He's happy for his friend" It's unrealistic, especially for his age! Especially for who his brother is and how rich he is! At least get a little angry! At least avoid us for a bit! It's bad enough he repeats animations that dexit happened for, it's bad enough that he repeats Hau's set up TWICE with the weaker starter and being in a more successful person's shadow, but then to repeat Trace's ass kissing attitude in an era MOST fans were sick and fucking god damn tired of the best friend trope? God, it's awful. His battles aren't even challenging until he gets that legendary- literally swept him in the league, which should have elicited at least some response. But nope. 4/10 rival. He makes me angry because of wasted potential- I guess that's just Game Freak's motto at this point. Oh and his uniform is worse, 2/10.
On a DESIGN standpoint, we finally get somewhere interesting and fun. Fuck the exposed ankles, I have never been more jealous of a jacket in all of my years playing these games, I wanted it so bad and maybe in black. The design is all around pretty cool imo- an utter lie of the character imo, but still really cool. The use of colors is really nice and stays in a pretty darker tone, and I especially like that the black shirt, pants, and shoes are an undertone to said jacket. That bag being green honestly should be purple or white, but otherwise the clothes are great and reads like something a childhood best friend of mine would wear when growing up. The hair is a unique design and color as well, resembling a crown, like a prince to his brother's king. The golden eyes are also a really cool choice and pops with his darker skin tone, which honestly is a really cool look. On a design level, Hop is a 9/10. If only his character was as good.

NOW WE'RE TALKING! Bede is that asshole piece of shit rival I had been missing since HGSS. He's a jerk through and through, believing himself to be superior to you and everyone else at every turn. His devotion to the Chairman was an interesting angle that could have and should have been explored deeper, but his fall from grace, being adopted by Opal to be the next Fairy Gym- trying to escape only to be roped back in- and his retention of his ego is just overall a really interesting vibe that I wish was fleshed out better. I don't really see why he's locked behind psychic types and then fairy, though- maybe as a gym leader, sure, but it takes an aggressive asshole rival and makes it too easy to grind him into the dirt. Imo, he should have gotten the other starter, an Eevee, a Copperaja of his own, and THEN have Hattrene as his ace, and THEN go all in on the fairy types if you battle him as a gym leader or elite 4. He's definitely not perfect, but honestly I think Bede's personality makes a better rival, and he honestly gives more trouble than Hop most of the time if you don't sweep him first. 8/10 rival with a decent arc.
The initial design... I hate and like it. It's very hard to explain, but overall it's certainly a look you expect from a pompous piece of shit- or grandma. His hair definitely has meemaw energy. It's such a weird of design elements, but it weirdly works. 9/10 design, very complex but decent.
And then Opal does THIS to the guy. Honestly its a bit deserved, but it's definitely a purposeful downgrade. It's a sign of some learned humility and dedication to taking up the mantel of Fairy type gym leader. Before, he had this weird (but cool) lack of spark in his eyes, but as the gym leader in battle, he has this new spark to them, evident of someone that's found a new and fulfilling purpose. The design definitely twists towards a non masculine design that weirdly works for him in a non binary spectrum. Those colors are still atrocious imo, and I probably would have removed the teal and brought in a jacket like his old one, but open and billowing in the wind like a Yami Yugi jacket cape. It's a 5/10 look with 9/10 lore.

Marnie is a pretty underutilized character imo and is honestly a decent balance of friendly rival, still competitive, and not kissing your ass about it either. It's a mutual respect, imo. Unfortunately her arc is pretty much nonexistent for the most part, shame because I actually like her design and would vastly prefer her to Hop. I think you could've snuck in some more Kuudere moments to really sweeten the deal with the smiling bit. I think it's a bit sad that she didn't WANT to become a gym leader and only opted to because her brother didn't want to be gym leader anymore, and she couldn't become champion, and I wish they had shown some actual development to make her change her mind instead of rushing everything and shoehorning Hop in at every turn. At the least, I would have liked it if she actually did something with us in the Rose Tower infiltration and didn't just become a cheerleader. Maybe if she'd join us at Isle of Armor, that'd be a nice way to add more character. The theme songs though? Immaculate. Still, character gets a 6. I like her, I just think she could've been better. As a revival, I love her team and dig that she sneaks a Toxicroak on her dark focused team- I'd personally expand on that with another starter, eeveelution, and possibly something aggressively coded like Gyarados.
Design wise, she's honestly really, really good. The hair is punk, the jacket and boots are punk, and the collar is punk, while the dress remains cute af. It's another leggy design, but leggy designs are nice imo. The very simple color palettes of pink and black just work so well together, too, pretty indicative of her older brother doing a decent job of raising her with a balance of girl and punk. 9/10 design
Now the gym leader uniform certainly comes out of nowhere- it's not bad, I do like it in fact, but I think I would have appreciated it on an older looking character tbh. It's suddenly revealing in a kind of weird way- that's not always sexual obviously, but it is still strange. The uniform is pretty great though on a design basis, the colors and patterns being perfect for a Dark Type gym leader, with the only real flaw being the sudden brown on the shoes instead of a similar magenta or white. I think if I were to improve the design on Marnie, I'd simply add her old jacket back, maybe even as a cape jacket like discussed with Bede. 7/10 otherwise.
Now we're in DLC territory. I've only played Sword, so I don't know much about Avery, but from what I've seen he's essentially similar to Klara. I like to think of both as aggressively provoking bottoms.
Now Klara is a breath of fresh air on multiple levels, mainly being a bitchy fail girl that I can't help but love bullying. She's the first asshole girl rival we've ever had, and honestly we need more of her type going forward, with Carmine being a slightly more realized version of the attitude. I think the design reads as weird to see at a training dojo, and she really should have a training uniform like the rest of us, but honestly this design FUCKS. She instantly reads like a toxic Onlyfans/Instagram/Tiktok or Twitch e-thot, and her in game cards actually pretty much confirming the vanity with her photosshopping. The jacket reeks of self absorbed rich bitch, the rings and makeup reek of high vanity, the pink hair and smile reads like a deceptive public face, and the dustox looking hair ornament- besides giving me false hope for a regional Dustox- it's also very cute. The uniform underneath though excellently reveals that delicious toxicity inside her. Also, she's an adult, so I can gladly oggle those thighs and thigh highs like the degenerate I am.
I especially love that she cheats, just unabashedly cheats. That is peak petty and toxic. Like we've had cheating where Lance has 3 underleveled dragonites with a move they shouldn't have, or cheating like Claire where she just refuses to give you a badge when you beat her. Then there's cheating by tossing toxic spikes BEFORE the battle. Honestly I was cackling, that is PETTY and I love it. It's a shame that she's pretty much resigned to being a poison type, because oh my god, she is otherwise what I've been asking for in a rival for a long, long time on a personality level. I really love her expressions, too- pressing in aggressively on her pokeball with a smile on her face, winking at you with a smile and quickly growling before she dynamaxes, the freaked out expression when the Slowpoke scares her, the angry deceptive smile when she threatens us- like I said, peak bullying bait. I think her development is rather nice, too, and her becoming a gym leader at the end (with no location. Bummer) is great as well. Why she isn't in base SwSh is a crime, I tell you. Forcing us to pay $30 extra for a fun rival like her is bullshit. Honestly if you gave Hop her personality, that would have made him insanely more likeable.
Design and personality wise, she's a 9/10. I want her back someday, and I wanna bully her and Carmine at the same time.
"Yeah, I'm LGBTQA+"
"What, all at once?"
That was a joke a friend of mine once said looking at him, and they are non binary, so I'm just quoting them. They gave me permission to laugh, so I'm laughing
As I said, I'm a Sword player and felt no real need to get Shield after... Sword happened. Yeah. So I really can't speak much about Avery on a personality level. What I can do is critique this absolute DISASTER of a shit show. Yeah, he definitely reads like a pompous Togami style bastardly man bitch, and I can see him being as toxic as Klara and about as fun to bully. I definitely think it's neat that he has telekinesis- although, I do find it... pointless? If not strange that we have a second psychic specialist after Bede, especially when something like Bug or Normal was right there to play with- I guess they were too lazy to design a second regional variant and just wanted to use Galarian Slowpoke, which sucks because Galarian Dustox- like in Klara's hair ribbon- would have been a decent chance to try it out.
But that outfit though- Jesus CHRIST BRO WTF ARE YOU WEARING LMAO. The frilly socks and cravat with that sports uniform? The top hat and glasses with that? Good lord. Commit to one bit or another, not 53 bits all at once! It's a hilariously bad design, like actually point and laugh bad, all that's missing is a shit mustache- like how tf do you expect ANYONE to take you seriously? Go for longer suit pants- sort of a tuxedo or butler look- and that might work better, or maybe make the top hat shorter. Maybe if you wanted a better mirror to Klara, you could make him a girl, shorten the shorts, and turn the socks into thigh highs, or hell don't make him a girl and you could make a pretty appealing design that could a pretty hot androgynous build imo.
But that's not what happened. Instead they gave us this mess of a man who has his shit together even less than I do. He definitely bottoms and a needs a top to dress him up so bad, and even Klara could peg him. 2/10 on design, 10/10 for making me laugh and continuously making me laugh years later for how bad it is.
Next up... oh God Paldea. I'm gonna have to get creative for that cast.

the fix it au. pls pls tell me about it.
Ok so again, this is very underdeveloped… It will get better I prommy….. Also this is so cringe and incredibly self indulgent but I DONT GIVE A CRAP!!!!!!!
Also I wrote this over the course of 3 days and I did NOT re-read it so if it sucks to read I am SO SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!
ADDAIR CENTERED AU BECAUSE I LOVE HIM I DON’T CARE IM GIVING HIM A REDEMPTION ARC BUT ITS NOT AN ARC ITS JUST THE WHOLE STORY !!!!!!
Actually let me start with a list of all the people that get to survive in this…. Its just all of the characters that I care for at all.
All of the infected (including Roper, O’Connor, and Raffs even though I always forget about them LMAO… i still have to decide if I want them to be infected in here…. Raffs is a most likely because I’m making a design for him rn)
Caz, Finlay, Roy, Brodie, Innes, maybe Archie, and maybe a few other background characters so that it seems a little bit less like everyone died because now that I’m writing this down thats really not a lot of people….. But also a lot of people did die
so if i ever did decide to do any writing for this like i wanted to.. It would start pre-making the infected be normal again. The way that they figure out to bring them back to normal is that they basically have to remove the shape from whatever part of them it attached itself to, because theres always one main “contact point”. The shape can either be removed by basically poisoning them into throwing it up and/or killing the shape with chemicals, because it is technically just a plant. Or cutting it out of them.
Muir was pretty easy to poison because he kept trying to eat things because…. cwd.. bro was hungry.. And he still is it did NOT help!!!
Both Trots and Gibbo had to be restrained, Trots got it basically tore out from his goopy lack of legs and Gibbo had to be force fed rat poison and cleaning chemicals because he was freaking out too much for them to safely cut into him.
Rennick incapacitated himself by getting into a battle with Addair and got fucked up pretty bad because his ass is NOT built like Addair’s is, and they were able to cut it out of him fish dinner style.
They did not get Addair he is still out there at this point.
So since they figured that the shape can be killed they start destroying it little by little, tearing it down when they can and drowning all of it in chemicals. This is a pretty slow process because I think that the game would be so much cooler if it took place over multiple days because I just like drawn out horror. Also because I want this to last longer, the shape did not damage the rig to the extent that it did in the game, so it was still “safe” to be on.
And now is an important time to get into how the shape affected them mentally. Pretty similar to how it is in canon where it gives you hallucinations of your loved ones, but in addition to the auditory hallucinations, they also have visual ones.
This was basically Addair’s motive for working for the shape so insistently, it gave him the illusion that he was providing for his family.
Uhm anyway when they managed to fully kill the shape Addair’s currently messed up brain saw that as them killing his family…. Which he was not super psyched about obviously. The shape is dead and its dead in him… but 1. He was affected the longest so his head was a little crazier than the rest of them and 2. He never got it properly removed so erm… he's a little freaked!!!!
Anyway so after they kill the shape the main challenge just becomes not letting the damage that was caused break the whole rig and kill them all while they await rescue, and also avoiding Addair at all costs because he is more out for them than he was before.
And I totally forgot to mention this before but it is important.. Addair has a tendency to specifically target Caz… actually just hates that guy so much there is a seething jealousy he has for him that comes out as anger because that's just how he makes himself.
So yeah the rig is still kind of falling apart and not working like it should….. including the flare stack…. and I think we know where this is going…
This is what that comic that i mentioned like one time and then never finished was about. So Caz, Finlay, Gibbo, Trots, and Roper are sent to go relight the flare stack, because safety in numbers or whatever. And Brodie and Raffs stay in whatever that section Brodie is in during the flare stack scene in the game idk what it's called…. but erm… yuh oh! Addair is here….. down at the flare stack I mean.
Caz takes the relighter to run down the stack while the rest of them try to distract Addair. But that buzz sound that happens in the game happens and draws Addair’s attention over to Caz… who again he just absolutely hates… way more than everyone else so he changes his focus onto getting Caz. And obviously he blows up like he does in the game because he's a fucking idiot… But the flare stack doesn't go down with him this time so Caz is mostly safe on that front. So yeah Addair falls in the ocean but he very shockingly survives it… and manages to crawl his way into the pontoons (or whatever that flooded part is idk anymore) and basically collapses there for the time being.
Back to everyone else they are somehow still waiting for rescue to come after a few days and are wondering if it's even coming at all so they’re now having to worry about that.. And their also having to worry about running out of supplies.. So they hit that classic “let’s split up, gang!”, both to scrounge around the entire rig for literally anything they can find, and to check for any final traces of the shape. Gibbo get sent to the pontoons by himself because he can navigate it way easier than anyone else can because I gave him gills😁😁😁 but uhh yeah guess who he finds down there….. Haha….
This is were this au slowly gets more character relationship based because I LOVE character relationships and interactions they are my favorite things ever.
So yeah Gibbo find Addair down in the pontoons and is like “WHAT THE FLIP!!!!!” and at this point Addair has gotten a bit more of his normal conscience back because the shapes been dead for “a while” now and he hasn’t been surrounded by people that he feels he needs to kill so he’s got more of an understanding of his environment then he used to but he’s still kind of in that animal instinct going on so he ATTEMPTS to scare Gibbo off because he sees him as a threat obvi. But he does a very poor job of this because he’s still incredibly injured and honestly Gibbo just thinks it’s a little pathetic. because it is…. So Gibbo basically decided to just leave him down there and not mention it to anyone else because he is NOT feeling up to dealing with that rn but he knows that Addair wouldn’t want the others to know he’s there and at the moment he’s just going to let Addair have it his way because he is in a PITIFUL state rn and even if that's not the best decision, it's the easiest. He backtracks on this decision pretty quickly though because it’s hard to just forget that there's a dying little freak in your basement so he’s like…. I should probably go check on him… So he does.. And then he keeps doing it and they start BONDING i'm forcing them to be friends because they're my favorites and Gibbo’s trying and SUCCEEDING to make him a better person. Uhm so since Gibbo keeps going to check on Addair in the pontoons, he keeps just disappearing for a while and everyone else is obviously wondering where he’s going because he isn't telling anyone. They all decide to send Trots after him when they catch him leaving one time because Trots is who he’d probably trust the most to tell anything. He does NOT tell Trots anything so Trots pulls the good ol’ “I better follow him” and struggles his way down to the pontoons following Gibbo as best he can and when he finally gets down there he sees Addair obviously. He's very hard to miss. So now Trots gets his turn to go “WHAT THE FLIP 😨😨😨😨” But he agrees to not tell the others that he saw him, against his better judgment, after Gibbo begs him not too.
When Trots goes back to the rest of the group and they ask him what he found he just LIES and says that he lost Gibbo’s trail and couldn’t follow him the whole way. The next 2 times that Gibbo goes down to see Addair, Trots goes with him, but it only takes those two times for him to be lik e”yeah… you cant keep doing this dude and also I think we need to get Addair some “proper” medical attention or else hes going to die…” because at this point hes just been sitting with untreated crazy ass wounds from being BLOWN UP (they aren’t as bad as they would be because I think that the shape made them really physically strong, like they can take some crazy blows and be mostly ok) and they’re getting infected (IRONIC!!!!) because hes been sitting in these nasty ass pontoons for a while now and those wounds are FREAKED!!!!! SO Gibbo and Addair are both (very reluctantly on Addair’s part) “ok I guess☹️” and they VERY painstakingly make their way out of the pontoons because Addair can NOT move very well.
OIL RIG FAMILY REUNION!!!! The rest of them are NOT happy about Addair being here. They don’t feel threatened by him because… again he can barely move it snot like he can really do anything. But Gibbo and Trots vouch for him that he’s mostly normal now and isn’t going to try to kill them and also is trying his darndest to start being a better person. They agree to basically not kill him I guess and let him stay (Caz, Finlay, and O’Connor were against this decision but in the end they aren't going to actually leave him to die(Caz would actually I think)). So he gets the most lackluster medical treatment (basically just bandages and like…. Neosporin or something idk) and begins his terribly slow physical recovery process.
During this this time they finally are able to figure out that the reason rescue is taking so long is because the rigs communications got cut off so none of their messages actually went through and somehow Cadal hasn’t realized that something is wrong yet and nothing has been coming from the Beira D. TERRIBLE COMPANY I HATE YOU!!!!!
Ok i need to wrap this up im 3 pages into the google doc im writing this in oh em gee….. Anyway rescue finally comes eventually and they get back to shore and Cadal is like “ok guys so how about we DON’T talk about this or sue us over this or anything yeah 😊😊😊😊 we’ll give you some money if you don't talk about it <333” and they all just kind of have to oblige because otherwise they risk the safety of the infected if the public finds out about them. So they find a place to stay and then the rest of the AU is just me putting Addair THROUGH THE WRINGER. He is NOT having a good time… that's my promise to you…
“This is underdeveloped” I say and then write 3 pages worth of stuff for it….. and I didn't even really get into any of the character relationships.....
Anyway if you want to ask me anything else……. You know what to do……
Posting this and not opening tumblr for a while because I’m embarrassed about it LMAO… MY IRL FRIENDS ARE GOING TO SEE THIS THIS IS SO NOT COOL!!!!! I’m blocking you guys…..

there's been some real drama with that Youtuber I Hate and a youtuber whom i have come to greatly respect and honestly its been a delight seeing that youtuber i dont like going full circle on 'fuck around and find out' and apparently rapid-fire switching between constantly crying about being victimized and being a vicious and hateful person to apparently EVERYONE who interacts with her (follower or not) and it's a real case of a kind of internet personality i find exhausting but its made me realize a few things:
one is she apparently considers superhero comics an inherently Bad genre without artistic value (a bold statement coming from someone whose big media opinons are 'the entirety of Japan are man-children who do sex crimes' and 'i'm going to hate on these cartoons for not turning into a murder frenzy at the last second'). i'd say she's clearly never read Magneto's story arc under Claremont, or anything to do with the Morrison run on Doom Patrol (its artistic, demented, filled with coming to terms with horrific trauma, your own depersonalization, and also the primary antagonist is literal nonsense) or the famous story God Loves Man Kills but i ain't holding my breath
the second thing is that apparently she's under the belief that once you have been victimized, it excuses all your actions. This lines up with some common elements i've seen in fandom, especially those who fixate on villlains as the True Heroes, similar to some of my other thoughts on how people seem to tihnk a compelling/tragic origin justifies anything the character does. This is the mentality of completely divorcing a character's moral place in a narrative from their actions, and instead based on their victimhood. It really explains the whole idea i keep seeing there, and its something to address in my story concepts.
Third thing is more important, more profound. Its hard for me to articulate WHY people like this bother me so much; that they're so unrelentingly unpleasant, cruel to everyone around them, and even similar attitudes of people who are just casually rude. Even if there's no harm meant, you can just... not talk like that. You don't have to be mean with every single word you say, and you can resist the urge to turn every exchange or observation into an opportunity to sound like a smart ass; that's how you get stuff after James Earl Jones dies, you post pictures of Mufasa's death and then fail to understand why people are upset by you immediately making a joke about an inoffensive, much beloved voice actor who never did anything to you.
So i think about how to describe this... or perhaps how to AVOID this. How to talk and act in ways that's softer and doesn't hurt people for a quick joke or jibe, or acts like they can't understand why its wrong. And then I remember the game Undertale, where in the Pacifist route (the only route I've ever played), Sans will warmly tell a player who has actively refused to ever kill or hurt a single monster by saying that 'it just means you kept tenderness in your heart', and i think that's a good way to do it.
Just keep some tenderness in your heart. Let yourself be open and be gentle as much as you can. A thing that is tender ache when it hurts something or hits something pretty much at all, so its important to keep that tenderness so you DON'T hurt others too.
The world is sad and unpleasant enough as it is. You don't need to make things worse just so you can feel better about yourself.

The end of TR was sad for Koko and Inupi??
Spoiler from chapter 278
I’m not sure if I’m just a lunatic, if i’m right, if i’m obsessed by Kokonoi and Inui, or all options above, but something that screamed in my mind during all chapters after the 277 was:
Man, their ending wasn’t as good as everyone else’s.
Let me explain...
I really love this friendship - althought I shipp them as a couple -, and something that anyone can’t deny, even if you are a really fan of, is that their backstory are full of problems and complicated situations. Every step after the fire turned in a fucking and messy problem, Koko and Inupi probably had some heavy mental issues after this trauma.
Inupi’s unhealthy mind wasn’t shown much, in fact, it really seems Koko’s pain was the greatest and Inupi’s not so much. Kokonoi is my fav character, but man, makes me sad how underrrated Inupi’s pain at losing his sister is, for real. Maybe because Inupi got over Akane’s loss? Not sure, but anyway, that’s sad.
Right, so why do I say that the ending of Tokyo Revengers is sad for my beloved boys?
Thinking about the growth of their friendship, probably they weren’t very open for complicated dialogues and all that stuff, and I belive that they only started to be very clear about that after Koko enters Tenjiku, and Inupi brought up his sister’s name and this friendship began to turn out to be a real chaos.
And after that, seemed like everything Koko did for Inupi was just for Akane. I’m not gonna deny, really had this “I see your sister in you” stuff; that’s one of the reasons that a lot of people dislike this shipp btw.
Coming back, the moment that all Kokoinu lovers are devoted for, is the “Let’s fall into hell together” scene.
It only existed because Koko was on Kantou Manji Gang, and this gang only existed because Mikey created it! In the newest timeline, Mikey have no reasons to create this gang, and more, not even the Tenjiku gang!
Everything started to be right when the confession arrived.
Thinking about how the things needed to get really intense for this moment to finally arrive, in the current timeline, they didn’t go through all this emotional confessional and Koko didn’t have that realization.
So they are not that happy, and I think that both hearts still really heavy for the not confession arc.
I'm not saying it was a bad ending, but it could have been a lighter ending for their backstory and traumas, because honestly I don't think in the new timeline they had that moment of saying out loud about their insecurities
And more, in the official character book 2, is writed that Koko hates money - this blog explains better why Koko and Inui new info -, so... See that in the end Koko is making money again, makes me sad.
Not gonna lie, Kokonoi is hot as hell here.
The only thing that makes my heart more peaceful is the fact that Inupi is with long and beautiful hair in this timeline. Not only aesthetically, but probably there’s some deep meaning in this haircut - where every timeline that Inupi feels comfortable in not show a manly appearance, to avoid Koko to remember his sister's silhouette, he let his hair long -
He’s so beautiful with this hairstyle
Other POV is that in the new timeline the fire never happened - that's why Inupi have no scars -, but there's no canon proof - at least not that I saw - that can prove it, so I sometimes can't really just accept that everything just ended perfectly.
Akane wasn't shown, so that's one more reason why I can't just say that everything is completely fine. I would love to see her alive and, in the end, create a new scenario where nothing has happened to my pretty boys.
I do love this ideia but at the same time I can't just accept that they are this happy after the reset.

bi mike truther here to give my two cents !! (yes this is a very old topic BUT I WASNT HERE THEN OKAY)
also this is really just rebutting what other people say, i make a couple points on why i think he's bi, but i don't really want to go scene by scene.
okay so i know people say that it feels untrue to his character to be bi because its a cop out. mike can't be bi because it disproves that he "can't" be in love with el because he only loves boys.
that was a really bad explanation so here are some posts i think explain gay mike much better than i can:
BUGSBENEFIT
LESBIAN MINDFLAYER
I REALLY LIKE THESE VIDEOS AND LOWKEY AGREE WITH THEM AND THE PEOPLE ARE AWESOME NO HATE WHATSOEVER
so. onto my take.
i see a lot of people say that mike can't be bi and then immediately jump the hoop of mike being in love with el.
so let me state now: mike being bi ≠ mike being in love with el
in fact, mike being bi gives a lot of nuance to his character: why he is SO in denial about being gay-- logically he does have feelings for a girl, but perhaps he doesn't love EL the way he loves WILL, confusing him. to me that puts a lot of scenes like we're friends we're friends, triple take, et cetera in perspective
looking at mike's character arc it feels more likely he's confused HENCE weird flirting dynamics rather than just in denial.
mike's not stupid! imagine looking at women (AND YOUR GIRLFRIEND) and feeling nothing and then looking at men (plural because i am also an eddie puppy crush truther) and feeling BUTTERFLYS.
are you crazy??? mike would be SO DEEP IN DENIAL, he would be avoiding WILL, he would be ignoring him HE WOULD NOT BE AWKWARD HUGGING HIM JUST TO THEN START FLIRTING WITH HIM he would not be hot and cold he would just be cold.
THAT'S what makes me really mad, people acting as if bisexual people are just in love with everyone. mike has been shown not to like el romantically at all, so it doesn't matter if he's bi, gay or anything else!
also robin wasn't even directly said to be lesbian, they didn't come out and go "i like women and only women." now i'm not saying robin isn't lesbian, but that is still an assumption we made based on the situation.
steve says he likes her -> robin rejects him and says she likes women
that is her reasoning. if she was bi, she would've said that she just doesn't like him, not that she can't.
my point being: the duffer brothers are not going to have mike explicitly say he's bi or gay. in this particular context, his love for will matters and i seriously doubt they're going to dive into his character arc and figuring out his sexuality (though i would love that, i'd rather leave it to fanfic writers lol)
and my most important reasoning: i'm bi. and i see myself in mike. and i want him to be bi.
art is made to be interpreted <3

My Atcham Playlist - explained
Another self-indulgent post going into details on why I picked certain songs for my second playlist. There are a lot more dark themes in this than in the Kerubim playlist, imo, so be aware.
CHILDHOOD/ADOLESCENCE PART:
1. Kikuo - You're a Useless Child
A subtle reference to the fact that Ecaflip is a bad father. Also to the fact that "the Good Child and the Fox Spirit" is in my Kerubim playlist.
2. Regina Spektor - Two Birds
As I said in my other playlist explanation (this, and 1-3 other songs are shared between the playlist, so I'll just copy the explanations): "I chose this song because,,, I like to think that Atcham and Kerubim had very different visions if their lives and futures, when they were kids. And Ecaflip's manipulation didn't really help."
3. Abuseken - Moths and Mayflies
A very sad, yet vague song, the overarching theme of which seems to be self-hatred, and being abused for the way you look even by your loved ones. There are also some lyrics pertaining to religion, which is common in Abuseken's songs and fits the fact that Atcham (and Kerubim)'s familial situation is uhh., hellnightmare.
"If you're loved despite your looks, that's family. Yes, that's love."
4. Sohta - I saw the moon
If this isn't in your playlist of "two characters who love each other but one of them is being left behind in their shadow" type relationships I don't even know what to say.
It's a very soft and loving song, which is rare for this playlist. I do think that when they were kids Atcham loved Kerubim a lot, and even after he still loved him their whole lives in some weird insane way. But this song is about that soft type of love that was still real before Atcham became embittered, but already knew they were going in different directions and feeling jealousy. Siblingism level lethal.
5. weevildoing - Disposable Girl
This playlist includes a cover because I just like how it sounds sfdgsdfg.
Anyway to explain why this song is on this playlist in the easiest way possible:
Folks you may or may not realize it, but I do headcanon Atcham to have been heavily abused in the orphanage so ughh yeah this isn't a happy playlist sfjgsdfg. Not that Kerubim's was happy.
Also, a lot of the lyrics are concerned with feeling jealous of even the harassment and abuse people who are prettier may receive for being "attractive" and I think Atcham is both mentally ill and yet self aware enough to know that whatever Ecaflip is doing to Kerubim is abusive, AND that he wants to be treated the same way.
At this moment of the playlist's timeline, Atcham doesn't yet hate Kerubim, and has not yet adopted "fuck everyone, I ball" mentality of killing anyone who doesn't like him, so there isn't much he's doing to cope with The Horrors.
6. weevildoing - i want a lobotomy
This is a vent song by weevildoing and 1. it's a bit of a bop, 2. it fits the theme of Atcham's slipping mental health well. I think it shows a very good steady decline going on, with the songs getting progressively darker.
7. GHOST - Человек (Chelovek)
The only words said in the entire song are "I WANT TO BE TREATED LIKE A HUMAN BEING"
This is a very raw and angry sound, and in a way I think it expresses that while Atcham is getting more mentally ill, there is something else happening: "This isn't fair."
Which I think that's a very major life-changing realization for kids who have been abused since a very young age to go through.
8. Amanda Palmer - The Killing Type
Another big song for his character arc in this playlist, showing the development of a certain kind of blood thirst.
"I couldn't kill to save a life,
I'd rather die a peaceful piece of shit, bait, shame-filled coward, thanks,
I'm not the killing type —
but I would kill to make you feel.
I don't mean kill someone for real!"
I also think that at this point he still wants to have a good relationship with Kerubim, who is actively avoiding him for his social reputation + for Ecaflip to like him more. And Atcham would really like Kerubim to feel some sympathy for him.
But also he does want to beat the shit out of him. And many other people. There is a lot of repressed rage about to come out.
9. Abuseken - Um, Ren-kun?
Another shared song with the Kerubim playlist: "This is a special type of song I add to playlists - a "vibe-builder". This song might not fit a character, but it expresses story ideas of Kerubim and Atcham being badddd to each other, because the entire song is two people going "I'm going to kms because you don't love me" "Good I think you should in fact kys" at one another, which is entirely how I think they talked to each other at the tail end of still being on talking terms when they were kids."
10. Pinocchio-P - Isn't it "A"
Another shared song with the Kerubim playlist: "The last song is very "Kerubim and Atcham" /neg, while this one portrays a conflict between two people in a less mentally ill way, exploring that neither is right and that both are looking at the world with different opinions that may or may not be the same opinion viewed in a different light. I thought it might be important to use this song to reiterate my belief that in this situation, there is no right or wrong side."
11. NILFRUITS - Arandano
This song is literally "you bullied me into wanting to hurt and maim people bc nobody ever helped me. And 'm like... really passionate about hurting and maiming even as an adult now. so who's the loser, pussy?"
12. Abuseken - Iesu
A very vibe-based song with many interpretations ngl. The way the Abuseken has explained it in a very literal way is: "it's about a girl who sacrifices her sister to some higher power, maybe a god, to get back her leg."
But there are many ways one can interpret it in a Deeper way: It's about religious trauma. It's about hating your body and feeling jealousy of others. It's about wanting someone else to take your place and suffer instead. It's about adolescence and puberty and discovering you are into some things that make you feel like a pervert and a horrible person. AND this song is about wanting to kill your sister. This song has Multitudes.
(A lot of Abuseken's songs are about being queer, religion, self-discovery, sexuality, abuse, shame, and trauma — big recommendation in general. The songs by this person are way too obscure.)
I think this song, compared to "The Killing Type" shows a bit of a slippage into freakdom. He IS the killing type and isn't in denial about it anymore, even if there is shame.
13. Arcade Fire - Neighborhood #2 (Laika)
When I finally finish my Atcham fic, I will name it after this song. In the context of this playlist, it's about the sadness that comes from hating your brother who abandoned you, whom you used to love.
14. Foster the People - Pumped Up Kicks
Yes, the mass murder song from The Memes.
My playlist has the somber synthwave cover. (I really like the cold detachment of the singer in the synthwave cover. )
I like to think that the reason Atcham left the orphanage is related to him becoming dangerous/violent towards other kids, and this song explores the themes of abuse and poverty that might push someone to want to do this to other kids.
15. Dobuno Awa - The Bad Taste From Leaving Things To Others
This song seems like a horror one, but after listening to it multiple times my personal interpretation boils down to "someone trying to break up despite seething and coping with anger trying NOT to tell the person they're breaking up with "kys" and "im gonna kms"."
I think that after Kerubim stopped being friends with him and Atcham grew to hate him, Atcham either had a whole speech guilting him and saying that their brotherly friendship is Over and Done, and why it's over and done, exactly, and how Kerubim is a terrible person, but it's ok — despite very clearly seething; OR Atcham tried to attack him, and it made Ecaflip boot him from the orphanage.
Basically: it's a song about trying to mask the depth of your despair and anger at someone, at the end of a relationship.
16. Shitoo - Nonsensical Noise
I don't post about it often, but I do think that while he was a kid/teen, Atcham was probably suicidal and doing SH.
This song is about being exactly those two thing, but finding the meaning of life in something other than approval of others or relationships, and surviving using whatever method it takes. It's both very nihilistic, and very powerful in terms of "life is meaningless, and your death would mean nothing. And you should live anyway in a world like this."
In this playlist, it reflects the transition Atcham undergoes from "active suicide risk" to "well, dying means that The Haters win and I need to kill them first + life is worth living because of my swords, and tasty meals, and warm bed"
17. attwn park - Mime
A bit of a vibe-building song. It doesn't mean Atcham the best, but it does reflect a deep sense of betrayal at some person, and coming to terms with it in a less emotional way — going from the screamy, sad vocals of Laika to a more cold "you never even looked at me, did you? And yet you talk of love in your lyrics..."
18. Nine Inch Nails - Somewhat Damaged
(The version in my playlist is my favorite live performance of this song because Trent Reznor screams in this version more and sexier. Anyway.)
The next level of Atcham's Kerubim Hater progression. He IS into killing people now, and he DOES hate Kerubim, and he thinks himself as stupid for not getting to this stage faster.
19. K.Flay - Hustler
While the last song illustrates him getting the biggest level up in Kerubim haterdom ever, I do feel the need to musically reiterate that, despite everything, he does, sadly, still love Kerubim in some way. So, a sad song it is. Especially with the song's Gambling allusions being very ecaflippy.
The reason this is important to me is that both Aux Tresors and the Movie imply that Atcham is a very self-aware person about his emotions and relationship with Kerubim — and just chooses to do this insane shit anyway. Like he says, "I need someone to blame (even though I know he isn't at fault)."
20. The Buttress - Brutus
I don't even know how to explain the level of insanity this song makes me feel so you should just listen to it.
I think this song is good for illustrating the love Atcham had left going in the "I need to kill him. So bad. I need to make him into a fucking coat." direction, finally, as a concrete decision.
ADULTHOOD PART:
21. K.Flay - Hollywood Forever
The transition between "he's in orphanage" and "he's in brakmar going through horrors" is very fluid and nonexistent in the childhood/adolescence part of the playlist, because ngl, he wasn't having fun in either of the situations. But this song marks a stark shift, in a way.
This song is to me, Atcham's adult self finally shining through. This song is about losing oneself and it's so giddy about it. He finds a sort of happiness in a situation that is bad, because it's still better than what it used to be. Going from being a loser, to hiding behind a persona of someone dangerous.
22. Vundabar - Alien Blues
Like a lot of songs on this playlist, this has some themes of dehumanization and body dysmorphia, but is more focused on themes of isolation. I don't think Atcham has any friends closer than "drinking buddies", even if he's doing better than ever. Because trusting people is scary.
23. K.Flay - You Felt Right
This song is about a bad relationship, and reminiscing. I think that Atcham has had some romatnic and platonic relationships in his life, — but a lot of people just took advantage of him (he's in Brakmar, for god's sake 😞), or liked him just because he seemed very mentally ill and ~weird looking~
It's also about feeling a sense of power and being able to advocate for yourself.
(And yeah, Kerubim is also included in the long list of "people who took advantage of Atcham's trust" type relationships. I really think he spent weeks or months trying to gaslight him into believing there was no rift between them and that he wasn't avoiding or abandoning him, while badmouthing him behind his back.)
24. K.Flay - Champagne
While Kerubim's playlist is FULL of songs about trying to numb pain using substances and relationships, I think Atcham also used this to cope — to a somewhat lesser degree.
What I like about this song is how slow it starts out, and how by the end it's going at breakneck speed as K.Flay screams the lyrics out while choking on her breath.
I think that unlike Kerubim, who numbs himself habitually and is kinda sadly successful at it, Atcham's thoughts are very loud and he can't escape or numb it, even though sometimes he tries. And unlike Kerubim, the literal first song about substance abuse on his playlist states outright "I need something to make me feel nothing" instead of hiding behind anything else.
25. Mother Mother - Oh Ana
There are a lot of lyrics about fake divinity and playng god, as well as gambling which is so good. Also, there is SH in this song, which is also very Atchamcore.
"Ana" that is being sang about is, hehe, an idealized, soft view of Kerubim that he still can't let go of.
26. Modest Mouse - March Into The Sea
It's about being mistreated and treated like garbage, it's about a one-sided relationship, it's about begging for it to end or to get better. I don't even know how to explain it without making a wholeass animatic. While lyrics like "well, treat me like the sea, oh-so salty and mean, ahaha! Well treat me like disease, like the rats and the fleas" and "Well discard whom you please, like the leaves off a tree!" are very Atcham-core, especially @ Kerubim, something that makes me go insane every time is this:
(foams at mouth) He feels like this about having a good relationship. I think he still feels this way by Waven times. His attachment style is soooo fearful-avoidant. It's crazy. I think being loved with no ulterior motive or judgement feels like drowning to him.
Basically, I think this song is a certified "Atcham Yearning For A Good Relationship" beat.
27. GHOST - SCAPEG8AT
This song is so Atchamcore in a positive and self-confident way, it's fucking crazy. A lot of earlier songs are insecure, or self-hating. Just look at "Disposable Girl"
While this...
This is a very good song about finding self-confidence after abuse. I think this is the view of himself Atcham takes on his most mentally well days ngl. Good for him!
28. Ferry - слова (words)
I'm pretty sure this song is about inter-sibling hatred, folks. And this one is very self-aware (Atcham self-awareness agenda is important to me).
"you're shitfaced
maybe you miss dad
but i don't
barely swallowing smoke, you make a joke
it's not funny at all
it's so easy to wish death upon you
it's so easy to wish you harm
it's so easy,
but those are just words"
29. Andrew Jackson Jihad - Brave As a Noun
Compares mass murder and making amends with loved ones to similar level of emotional difficulty. Despite everything, I do think Atcham is a coward. Which is why he'd rather kill Kerubim than try and like, talk, despite knowing it is an option.
It takes a singular very angry 10 year old child to talk some sense into him.
30. SODIKKEN - Gretel
It is a mirror of the song "Hansel" by SODDIKEN which is on Kerubim's playlist. It is pretty much abut being treated like a freak because of your looks, and having no friends, and even your family being your enemies.
It's also a very soft, honest, and kind song about how much this Sucks. (as kind as "when you die and go to hell, give my brother a big smother-hug, ok? ❤" can be, lyrics-wise, fhdgjsdfg), which is a rarity for this playlist.
I like soft Atcham moments. Gives him a bit of a gap moe.
31. DECO*27 & Pinocchio-P - (Not) a Devil
Another shared song with the Kerubim playlist: "The version in my playlist is a cover, because I think the subs there are beautiful than the subs on the official upload of the song.
I think "angel who is being choked by purity and trying to appear better" and "demon who is trying to appear angelic" is a very good aesthetic for Kerubim and Atcham. Two opposites that are more similar than one might think.
I think this kinda fits because after the divorce and growing old, Kerubim and Atcham start actively beefing again due to going to a war AND due to Atcham trying to kill him in Astrub."
32. Maretu - Pink
The version on my playlist is Micchi's english cover which is sooo good.
It's violent, it's about thinking you're punishing bad guys and doing good things by hurting people, and it is also vaguely kind of intensely Enthusiastic and Passionate about the whole killing people thing. Very Atchamcore.
33. Pinocchio-P - God-ish
In Japanese, saying that something is godlike is a common way to praise someone, and this song is heavily satirizing trends and online culture.
I think this fits with some of deeper thoughts Atcham might have on the way people look up at heroes like Kerubim; at their demigodhood; and his self-awareness of the fact that he's a hater and hates his brother for reasons that are as shallow as the reasons for which people like him for. And that in a way, both he, and those people, deify Kerubim.
34. Vane - BUTCHER VANITY
I'M CRAZY IM CRAZY I'M CRAZY IM CRAZY I'M CRAZY IM CRAZY I'M CRAZY IM CRAZY I'M CRAZY IM CRAZY I'M CRAZY IM CRAZY I'M CRAZY IM CRAZY I'M CRAZY IM CRAZY I'M CRAZY IM CRAZY I'M CRAZY IM CRAZY I'M CRAZY IM CRAZY I'M CRAZY IM CRAZY I'M CRAZY IM CRAZY I'M CRAZY IM CRAZY I'M CRAZY IM CRAZY
He loves his brother a lot.
"To not forgibe you, rigor mortis, mold and mildew" <- soooo atcham's feelings on their childhood conflict coded.
35. Vane - higanbana milk tea
Another good Kerubim & Atcham song. Such a good hater song for one's family members. One thing I really like and think about a lot if how little of a shit Atcham gives about Kerubim dying for the first time. "Aww man you took my kill. Oh well" level reaction, which really fits this songs "Eh, I'm just glad you're fucking dead XD" lyrics. (Yes we're entering the Dofus Movie part of this chronological playlist.)
36. VocaCircus - Déjà Vu
Another song shared with the Kerubim playlist: "A song about cyclical relationships. I think it fits Kerubim and Atcham well, esp with them meeting once again in the movie. (Albeit not for long…)"
37. weevildoing - Splitter Girl
In my opinion, the entire playlist builds to this. It is an ultimate Atcham character song. There is no other song to me that describes him better.
youtube
In part, this song is so late in the playlist because it serves as a good book end, collecting everything that makes Atcham himself in it.
A prideful front; deification of violence; self-harm being refered to as something sweet but not enough to satisfy the urge to hurt people; and the reluctant admittance that at the center of fetishization of hurting people is a principle of "BEFORE THEY DO IT TO ME AGAIN"
Another reason this song is so late in the playlist is my most favorite thing about this song: It is actually a perfect Atcham&Joris song, especially in the context of the movie.
38. koyori - Solitary Hide-and-Seek
(putting on tinfoil hat) Continuing the theme of "songs that make me insane if I think about them in the terms of Atcham's character development in the movie" — I'M CRAZY GRRR. Atcham is an unwanted child. And this entire song is a child that is unloved trying to entertain herself, before seeing a child she is envious of — realizing that it is who her parents wish they had. And Atcham knowssss that Ecaflip and literally everyone else likes Kerubim more and that not much of value would be lost if he was never born.
And the dream sequence where she plays with how she imagines her parents to have been as kids — such a moment of yearning and innocence immediately after something so fucking insaneee. I think at his core, behind all "i need to make kerubim into a coat" what Atcham would like the most is something simple and happy. Like, haha. Hide-and-Seek.
and after this whole character study of "man nobody likes me for real. i wish i could be happy with people i love but who don't love me. there's always someone they would prefer to me", comes this song's ending, where the child finally gets love and it's described that feeling as so warm that it's hurting to hold in your hands.
So, my psionic crepinjurgenite warriors, imagine post-death kitten Atcham being hugged by Joris and groomed by Kerubim and his reaction being "[freezes up and tears up before running away]"
39. attwn park - Piñata and I
IM INSANE IM CRAZZZYYYY INSANE ASYLUM.
youtube
This is the second runner up for "the most important Atcham character song in this entire playlist" which is why I am also linking it.
Unlike Splitter Girl, it's not about violence. It's about like, 20-40 other very important atchamcore things: loss of family and self-loathing and other-people loathing.
The PV includes a lot of people who have picture frames for their heads, and at times all of these people have mourning bands on them, pointing to the fact that protag's family is dead. Atcham and Kerubim's entire family, which is implied to be Very Big, is also literally dead.
The song starts out with the protagonist buying herself a cake to celebrate her birthday, "bought to make herself feel better". She thinks on her struggles fitting in, being a bad adult, "I just want to be loved as I am"
"He's become an adult who's thrown away his dignity, name, and logic — But do you even want to see me as a human being as it is?" <- ATCHAMCORE LYRIC. People dehumanize him for the things he does, but does he owe others "good behaviour" just to be treated as a human being?
The solution the protagonist has is reminiscence, self-hatred, and memories of beating a pinata, and trying to turn back time. Atcham's solution is pretty much the same, except instead of beating up a pinata he wants to make a coat out of his brother. The song asks a very logical question about this sort of coping mechanism: "Are you truly satisfied with this?"
What drives me even more insaner is the praying segment. "Grant them eternal rest, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them." because I do think that between the two of them, Atcham is the one who is more dead-family focused (because Kerubim never allows himself to think about sad shit)
This song's ending perfectly describes Atcham's death in the movie, to me, and how it feels emotionally:
"My today is the tomorrow that the person who died yesterday longed for."
40. Hanyuu Maigo - Aun Beats
Another song shared with the Kerubim playlist: "Listening to this song and thinking about Atcham dying in Kerubim and Joris’s arms in the movie is just as emotionally devastating as listening to this song and thinking about the 48487538 years of separation between Qilby and Shinonome, or The Situation between Nora and Efrim.
This song has done a lot for doomed siblings economy, despite not being about siblings and instead the concept of doom itself."
Also I guess I'll take this moment to elaborate a lil: "I want you to forgive me" <- maddening; "I really wanted to go back earlier, but now is okay too" <- maddening; "We were going to be together forever... Don't worry, it's a wonderful end for us both" <- maddening; "I wanted to hear those words from you" <- maddening.
To me this is a certified "we wasted 70-90 years of our lives on beefind and hating each other. All those years that we could have been having a normal relationship. All those years we could have shared. Wasted. Even if we're immortal we'll never get that normal relationship we could have had when we were in the mortal age-range back." kerubim&atcham beat.
41. 4o / TadanoCo - Dear Me
I have a disease that makes me add this song to playlists of characters who were bullied as kids, or were in other violently abusive situations. It's very easy to lose posession of even your own self worth after that, and I really like how this song explores that.
It's a very realistic song about healing, basically. My crazy opinion is that 1. Atcham will never be normal (good), 2. he sometimes gets downright sick while thinking about everything that happened but it's alright. he has people who love him. And he will just sleep it off.
42. Faded Paper Figures - Relatively
Song shared with both Kerubim AND Joris playlists: "A general crepinjurgen-core song that touches on the theme of their relationship lasting forever."

I think one of the reasons I love Jujutsu Kaisen because it feels like a reverse-parody of shounen, atleast to me. Gege takes common shounen tropes and instead of doing the same thing as the writers before him, he takes those tropes seriously instead of just using them as clutches to make things happen.
For example Sukuna, he isn't just an evil magic battery inside our main hero to get him out of tough situations who gets tamed with time but a fully realized character with motivations of his own. Or the failed older generation that reflects and mirrors the current trio (Nobara is still alive and nothing can take this delusion away from me) who are not just copypaste with a minor twist to them. Gojo isn't just the strongest character who our protagonist will have to eventually overcome and the world doesn't revolve around Yuuji, like literally 7 other characters could have been the main characters as well. Even with the KennyMommy twist we got nothing but a crushing irony that Yuuji was made to be expendable instead of being the most special character out of them all. (Even if there is more to the story -which is very likely, but who knows because it's Gege- and he was in fact more special than that, it still works because next to someone like Maki or Yuta, it's like nothing lmao)
I also love the grading system and how realistict it is, the special grade curses/sorcerers are treated more as monsters than the goal the characters should work towards, I never once felt that grade 1 sorcerers were ever disregarded or degraded to constantly up the power scale. Grade, technique, curse level or even domain expansion isn't the ends of all means, every fight is unique and fresh, unlike in some other shounens were the fights start to feel like dick measuring after a time.
Also also our main character isn't the moral epitome of the whole world with writer's clairvoyance, who knows everything better than everyone else. No, he isn't always right and his approach isn't always the right one or the only right one, something that was showcased with both Megumi, Junpei or even Mahito. When he faced the awakened Junpei, he didn't want to accept his actions and preeched without knowing anything, it is only when Yuuji tried to understand Junpei is when he made a big push through, which was handled greatly in my opinion. It's understandable that Yuuji rejected him at first and I don't neccessarily see it as a flaw, but him trying to connect to Junpei is what made him a great protagonist in my opinion. Everything is chaotic and gray in JJK, there is no clear right and wrong, there is only your side and their side, or more accurately you vs them. There are no one-dimensional bad guys who suddenly turn one-dimensional good guys once they are defeated (which I'm so thankful for, my god). Curses, for fuck's sake this universe has curses which could have been the faceless unthinking monsters the heroes could massacre en masse without ANY moral implications, then Gege went ahead and said Lmao, Lol even, here, kill these innocent civilians made by a sentient curse that's the manifestation of humankind's fear and hatred for our own kind while you are there and then things just went further downhill after that. (I just want to say, when Nanami and Yuuji defeated those curses without knowing their true nature, I really cried seeing those poor people suffer, I can't wait to see the Shibuya arc being finally animated. Maybe this time Nanami and Nobara won't die if I am delusional enough).
Sorry for rambling, I may not have worded things exactly the way I wanted them but writing in English is not my greatest expertise. Also idk if someone has already made this point or not, I try to avoid the JJK fandom as much as possible because 90% of it is just SatoSugu or Character x Y/N and I'm not interested in either of those (no hate towards the fans tho)
HOLA anon! Ehem...

So... when your ask came through I was getting ready to go Cancun+ing, but I promise that even while my skin scorched under the sun (I am sunburnt af 🥲) I was in deep thought regarding your magnificent ask because.................
HOLY DAMN YES!
Welcome to another JJK-Sunday Confessionals.
I love it! Thanks for sending your #thoughts. I honestly don't even know that I have much more to add to this other than saying that I love how you've captured many of the #things I love about jjk.
Ok, jk, have we met? I vomit words and words I shall vomit under the cut.
Gege takes common shounen tropes and instead of doing the same thing as the writers before him, he takes those tropes seriously instead of just using them as clutches to make things happen
I love this so much and I've been thinking about what it is about how Gege writes that is so refreshing and I think it defo has something to do with how he fleshes out the tropes he uses in detail.
Perhaps he understands that tropes are at their core experiences. And where most mangaka rely on tropes at face value, he re-imagines new ways of expressing the same core concept. i.e. the Kurama vs. Sukuna example you shared.
Honestly, this is one of the reasons I like jjk so much. I simply cannot predict it to a t. There's a lot of media that I simply do not indulge because, as soon as I am able to predict the story because of the tropes used, I get bored.
the failed older generation that reflects and mirrors the current trio
Ok but listen. What if Kenny, Tengen and Sukuna were such a trio? Same trope, take it back, way back. There's something about how Gege is writing about Tengen (especially in relation to Kenny) that is interesting in that there's this sense that fate has been repeating itself for many, many years.
I haven't been able to gather my thoughts on it but... something about it...
the world doesn't revolve around Yuuji, like literally 7 other characters could have been the main characters as well. Even with the KennyMommy twist we got nothing but a crushing irony that Yuuji was made to be expendable instead of being the most special character out of them all.
Just today I was thinking about how Yuji is such a refreshing and unique take on his trope as the mc of a battle shonen. Like Megumi, he is all the #things that define him according to his trope, and yet he does it in a way that is unequivocally Yuji.
As for the other main characters, that's what I love about them. It's like they are all the protagonists of their own lives. There are a few plot devices in the story, but for the most part Gege's character writing is absolutely fantastic.
Also. Crushing irony is abso-fucking-lutely on point lol.
Grade, technique, curse level or even domain expansion isn't the ends of all means, every fight is unique and fresh, unlike in some other shounens were the fights start to feel like dick measuring after a time.
YES. I have to half disagree about how the fights don't feel like dick measuring tho.
There's something very ironic and absurd about Hakari vs. Kashimo and Gojo vs. Sukuna that is 300% dick measuring but in this very Gege-kind-of-egotistical-way 😂. I personally love it tho. No complaints here.
Also also our main character isn't the moral epitome of the whole world with writer's clairvoyance, who knows everything better than everyone else.
Loved this 🥲. All of it!
I can't wait to see the Shibuya arc being finally animated. Maybe this time Nanami and Nobara won't die if I am delusional enough.
oh hey! it's like me thinking Tokyo Babylon's volume 7 will have a different outcome if only I read it enough times. I have not successfully managed to manifest a different ending but shall keep trying lol.
So relatable.
Nah, please ramble away. Thank you for sharing your #thoughts with me.
You are using British English, does that mean you are on the other side of the world (Europe/Asia)? Also I'd say you write quite well in English :) better than many USAmericans actually lol.
Yeah so... about the fandom.
What I'll say is that I have had several negative experiences that have left a very sour taste in my mouth. It's gotten to the point that sometimes people will comment on my content with inoffensive messages and I immediately get defensive because I think they're being mean when they aren't. It actually makes me sad to react like that and it is something I'm working on.
For that reason I've stayed here in my little Tumblr corner for the vast majority of my fandom experience and interacted with others very little because I found some posts and attitudes to be too triggering.
But alas, I've come out of my shell and have met good friends/moots through here as a result. So thank you to my Tumblr moots for helping make my jjk experience better!
I also only recently started interacting more on twitter with others in the fandom. So I have a small circle of mutuals who share the same level of understanding as me but it isn't always easy to find people I vibe with in such a large ocean of loud voices.
It's interesting to note that the most popular content for jjk isn't necessarily the kind of discourse I enjoy. To your point, sometimes I see a a very popular post that is specifically about satosugu and I wonder whether it would be as popular if it wasn't about the ship. So I totally share your feelings about the state of the fandom on all levels.
And while I personally do enjoy "shipping", I also like to explore and understand the characters as individuals. That is not to mention I consider myself to be on camp ship and let ship.
What I've learned is that you have to curate your content experience and I get the feeling you're already on it for yourself.
Anyways anon! Thank you so much for dropping by!
I really enjoyed reading your thoughts on why you love jjk and look forward to hearing about what other #jjk thoughts you might have.

I know it's old at this point, but can you explain how Laips's treatment of Peridot was abusive. I mean, I think both Steven and Peridot called her out over destroying the recorder almost immediately
Yeah, but Lapis didn't even bothered to get her own shit together, and was STILL abusive towards Peridot behind the scenes.
I mean, do you guys remember the episode Raise the Barn? When Lapis was desperate to leave Earth to avoid facing the Diamonds, but Peridot couldn't tell her that she didn't wanted to leave and kept making flimsy excuses to stay? And Lapis kept dismissing Peridot's feelings on the matter, plus with a tight grip on her shoulder to reinforce her authority? All of that accompannied by some ominous and almost unsettling tune in the background plus a scared, whining Pumpkin?
LAPIS: I can't... I WON'T get myself caught up in another war.
Not to mention how Peridot was so dependent and desperate for Lapis' approval in her bravery as she ran away:
And even after Peridot told Lapis the truth, that she wants to stay and fight for Earth because that's the new home she grew fond of, the blue bitch won't even flinch and then proceeds to take the WHOLE BARN with her, with PERIDOT'S BELONGINGS in it! Why the Hell would she need Peridot's belongings for?! Isn't that basically stealing?!
PERIDOT: Wait, no! You're supposed to reward me for my emotional honesty!
In fact, the whole episode was Peridot trying to be honest with Lapis, but failing to word her thoughts in a way that wouldn't result in Lapis lashing out at her. Even Steven himself is shown with a frightened expression in his face as Peridot refuses to leave Earth.
And when she returns in Reunited, she DESTROYS the barn right in front of Peridot by throwing it at Blue Diamond! And what does Lapis has to say, after being a major bitch to poor Peridot?
PERIDOT: LAPIS?! You're really here...
LAPIS: Hey.
Bitch doesn't even say "sorry", and that's supposed to be the end of her arc.
In general, Lapis Lazuli was an unpleasant character. Sure, she was supposed to be the victim of abuse, but no one actually had the guts to call her out, tell her to change her attitude and drop her nocive coping methods; Steven kept making excuses for her toxic behavior in Alone At Sea:
LAPIS: It's MY fault. I'm the one to blame.
STEVEN: That's not true...
[...]
STEVEN [referring to Jasper]: But... she's terrible!
LAPIS: I'M terrible! I did horrible things! I broke your dad's leg, I stole Earth's ocean; Go on, tell me I'm wrong!
Even Jasper outright admits how horrendous Lapis is:
JASPER [to Lapis]: You can't lie to me, I've seen what you're capable of! I thought I was a brute, but YOU... you are a MONSTER.
And again, in the same episode, when Lapis confronts Jasper, she also admits to have enjoyed torturing the Quartz Soldier as Malachite:
LAPIS [to Jasper]: I was terrible to you... I liked taking everything out on you... I NEEDED to, I-I HATED you...!! It was BAD!
And may I remind you that in Jailbreak, after being defeated by Garnet, Jasper desperatedly tries to convince Lapis to fuse with her in hopes of defeating the Crystal Gems, only to be tricked by Lapis in the end and trapped at the bottom of the ocean?
LAPIS [In control of Malachite]: I'm done being everyone's prisoner; now you're MY prisoner! AND I'M NEVER LETTING YOU GO!!
And this is just from an useless filler ep, but what about her small talk with Connie in The New Crystal Gems?:
CONNIE: Um, Lapis...? You don't remember me?
LAPIS: Ummm...
CONNIE: You almost drowned me when you tried to steal the world's water...?
LAPIS: I almost drowned A LOT of people...
Just because you were abused in the past, that doesn't give you the right to abuse others. It just makes you an insufferable dickhead who adamantly refuses to learn their lesson.
Lapis' problem never was her trauma, no; to blame a traumatized person for lashing out would be akin to demonizing their experiences. Lapis' REAL problem was how her trauma was handled, and how no one has bothered to call her out on it. We cannot help a person if they're constantly refusing to pull an effort to help themselves!
And just remember, she and Peridot never got their opportunity to develop their characters while on Earth, because the cartoon was perpetually stuck on a Steven-only perspective, and their stories would only move forward if Steven was present. If not, they're stagnant.
Oh, and about the recorder fiasco, I don't think calling her out for destroying it has worked at all, because the show would bring it back as an ill-spirited joke through a "Meep-Morp exposition" in Beta:
PERIDOT: This piece is called "Wow, thanks". It represents the struggles of inner communication, the tape is the ribbon that binds our experience on Earth together. [In a jolly tone] It has no functioning purpose; it just makes me feel bad!

8, 9 and 14 for the salty ask game!!
8.) Have you received anon hate? What about?
Yup. I don't get it often, but it's happened. Mainly over on FFnet, but I've gotten some questionable commentary on Ao3 too.
Usually it's people pissed off that I'm writing queer fiction. Or people pissed off that I'm writing for queer identities that they want to gate keep. So basically people who are being bigoted about queerness.
There was the angry anon on FFnet who kept calling me a fag. Haven't seen him in a while, hope it's because he's learned to be more tolerant and not simply that he's moved on to other targets. I've had a couple of people react very badly to my aromantic headcanon for the Doctor. Because how dare I not believe they weren't romantically in love with Rose or River or Clara or... whoever. One really indignant person who just could not believe anyone would ship Barry and Eddie because they 'hated' each other. (They didn't? It's okay to not like a ship for no real reason and then just... avoid that ship. Don't have to hate on ships you don't understand, mmkay?) Then there was that one person who told me I was being biphobic for having Anya be a lesbian in a fic where Buffy was starting to realize she was bi. I'm quite serious about that last one, it was such a WTF moment.
I've also gotten some hate for treating characters I like in nice and understanding ways. Mostly Iris. And it's been only a few times, but I know it's just a small taste of the larger hate directed at her in the fandom at large.
9.) Most disliked character(s)? Why?
Mark Blaine. The origin of Chillblaine being that of a Captain Cold knock off in the comics was not a good sign and, to be honest, he was not well served on the show either. The writing for Mark and Frost originally felt like a poor attempt to recapture Barry's chemistry with Len, but this time the straight edition and lacking any actual chemistry. Then when he starts his redemption arc, it feels like it comes at the expense of a lot of Frost's screen time and characterization. The focus was no longer on her - it was on her boyfriend. And then when Frost died to save Caitlin - with Caitlin 'dying' shortly afterwards anyway - the focus of all the grief over Frost and Caitlin was mainly on him. Not Frost and Caitlin's friends who'd known them and loved them longer and knew their histories so much better... Mark Blaine. Who was playing replacement goldfish with Khione, when he wasn't pitching an epic fit about not being allowed to kill-replace Khione with Frost.
14.) Unpopular opinion about your fandom?
There's definitely an issue with parts of the fandom when it comes to accepting characters have messy and sometimes bad reactions to their trauma.
Cisco gets this treatment for S3 where he's grieving his brother to the point where some people still hate him for it even now, seasons later after Cisco and Barry both made amends and came out with their friendship stronger than before. Iris gets it for being angry that Barry sacrificing himself at the end of S3 forced her to relive the same trauma she's already suffered from Eddie's death at the end of S1. Frost gets it for being immature and frightened (and suicidal) in S3 and lashing out at people because she'd never learned how to handle her emotions in healthy ways. She gained so much character development and worked hard to make amends for her villainous start, but some people never acknowledge her character development post S3 because she doesn't apologize in the exactly perfect way. Harry was massively traumatized by his daughter's kidnapping when he first arrived in S2, but he grew to love and be highly protective of Team Flash. Yet some people refuse to see past that first time he called Cisco 'Crisco'.
I'm not saying that everyone has to like all the characters. Or their character arcs. But a well rounded character is not going to be perfect. They're going to react badly to circumstances some times. They shouldn't be defined only by their worst impulses, especially if they're shown to grow beyond those impulses. It's okay to dislike a character without having to 'prove' that the character is morally impure first.
Though, to be fair, the purity culture thing is a problem with fandom at large. And I've been fortunate to avoid the worst of it in the Flash fandom.

Lost Light 4-6
Lost Light 4
they fucking figure out it's a ruse immediately lmAO like I said, Six-of-Twelve really just slapped together a fake alt mode for Rung
absolutely hilarious that out of the CyWhirlGate trifecta, Whirl is the one who's the best at communicating
ah yes, this argument lmAO it's funny, now I know that both Megatron and Rodimus are right about each other, Rodimus wants to get his revenge on Getaway as soon as possible and Megatron wants to put off his judgment at the hands of the Knights of Cybertron, but I remember when this first came out, I had full faith in Rodimus that he wasn't trying to brush off all this functionist universe stuff just to get out of here as quickly as he could. Granted, he snapped out of it quick but I was real loud about how I believed he never considered it in the first place lmAO rip to my past self, it's not your fault Roddy had a moment of weakness
honestly I'm impressed with how quick Anode and Lug became interesting characters, both as individuals and in terms of the overarching lore, like I said, blacksmiths are such a cool concept and also Anode is a likable person and she and Lug play off each other really well
“No one is telling anyone anything. Ever.” YEAH THEY SURE AREN'T, THAT'S THE PROBLEM
“I don't think you're trying to avoid your trial.” oh Minimus... honestly I think this also made me want to take Roddy's side even harder lmAO because I knew for certain that Megatron DID want to avoid it, he literally said so back when we first found the Necrobot planet, which made Megatron getting stuck here at the end of this arc even harder to swallow. It was definitely one of the things that tested my faith in this comic and made a lot of people bail
fhdasjk Roddy is so fuckin done with this shit and he is so right to resort to grade school tactics to stop Six-of-Twelve from monologuing, shut your fuck up, dunkass
honestly good for Whirl for letting Tailgate know what's up, somebody's gotta tell that guy what's going on
Lost Light 5
hfghjdk good on Nightbeat for at least trying to get Rung to open up but also don't take up the whole couch you ass
aww Rung honey...
good for Ratchet for managing to bluff successfully this time lmAO
also really love Ratchet smirking while Rung tells off the Functionist Council
love Cyclonus being a good leader to everyone, Roddy was right to put him in charge while the rest of the command staff are away
photonic crystal, that's what Rung coughed up. Also aww man, the fact that he started making them as a physiological response to an intolerable psychological burden... losing Skids tore him up bad........
“I woke up after being spiked” a HEE HEE HOO
“You're not accountable to them- You're accountable to your conscience.” “They ARE my conscience.” oooOOOUGFHDG *POINTS AT MEGATRON* HA HA YOU CARE ABOUT THEM... god and him specifically naming Rodimus and Minimus, not Magnus, Minimus
“If it's not the Decepticons, it's the Functionists... We can't help turning our hate outwards.” I've said it before but truly it is fucked up that Megatron or no Megatron, the universe was always destined to suffer at the hands of Cybertronians. Funny though that for this universe, Megatron is going to end the suffering before it extends beyond Cybertron
Lost Light 6
there we go, there's my boy Roddy coming back to himself. Shame he had to punch out the world's most rickety old man first but it's fine, he can take it lmAO
I'll be real, the entire time we were having that big fight on the Necrobot planet and using the spark flowers to generate the force field, I was thinking about this moment where Anode realizes she can use the flower with Lug's residual spark energy in it to bring Lug back, like. She's real lucky Lug's flower wasn't one of the ones that got blown up or used as fuel lmAO
Rung mass displacing himself to be big enough to punch the moon is still simultaneously really cool and extremely funny
I do like this little bit of dialogue between Clicker and Megatron, talking about how the opposite of functionism isn't lack of function, it's choice
oof, fucked up that Rodimus puts his trust in Megatron despite himself and Megatron ends up breaking it. Not on purpose, it's Terminus that tricks him into going to the wrong rendezvous point, but Roddy doesn't know that
man poor Roddy is just going through it right now, all these motherfuckers betraying his trust, purposefully or not
awww Ratchet hugging Rung is still so sweet, I like how it's the first thing he does, just makes a beeline for Rung and lets him know he loves him
see, now I can appreciate this moment of Megatron being able to do things over in the functionst universe, changing Cybertron the way he wanted to in the beginning, but boy was it easy to think this was the end of Megatron's arc and we were never gonna see him again lmAO This was definitely one of the things that tested my faith in this comic, I did not like the idea of Megatron escaping judgment for everything he did in his own universe, like yeah sure he's changed but he has simply done too much to justify being gifted a second chance like this without ever answering for anything he did. But now, knowing that he does come back, I can handle him being given this second chance and then coming back and answering for his crimes lmAO in fact I like that a lot, he gets to finally do the kind of good he always wanted to do without it affecting his judgment or erasing all the bad he did before
