Silverchair’s final album Young Modern is divisive among fans; it’s very much a Daniel Johns passion project, borrowing a lot of sounds from pop punk, and the broader soundscape was an inevitability after Neon Ballroom, but the 2007 disc doesn’t have the same soul as what came before. It was designed around wider appeal, and it saw some real commercial success, but it does ring a little but stylistically hollow. It’s not the best in their catalog, that’s for sure, but it does carry some charm. Highlight tracks include Straight Lines, The Man That Knew Too Much, Low, and Insomnia. Available on iTunes and Spotify. I would really, REALLY like my brain to stop doing whatever it’s doing, this is straight up not a good time.
