romantic vs platonic
Pairing: Dick Grayson x Reader (Established Relationship), Conner Kent x Reader (Platonic)
Word Count: 1k words
romantic:
Dick burrowed his face into your neck, breathing in your familiar scent and letting out a deep sigh once your fingers began running through his hair, gently massaging his head.
He took another deep inhale and twirled a lock of your hair in his fingers as he began placing kisses to your neck. It was that one strand that was always curlier than the rest.
"Your hair smells great, baby." He murmured and your eyes fluttered shut, the warmth in Dick's embrace beginning to put you to sleep. You thanked him for the compliment with a small kiss to the crown of his head.
"I love it when my pillow smells like your shampoo the next day." He confessed and you melted.
A hot blush was growing on your face and your bleary eyes took in the sincerity of his smile. Pressing a palm against his chest, feeling his faint heartbeat beneath your fingertips, you leaned close to kiss him.
“I love you.”
"I love you more."
platonic:
You sighed, letting your hair out of the uncomfortable ponytail that you had haphazardly put up so that it wouldn't be in your face while you ate lunch.
That single strand had been uncomfortably tugging against your scalp for last thirty minutes and you gently ran your fingers through the stands, bringing instant relief—
"Woah!!"
That was until someone reached out and yanked your hair so hard you almost fell flat on your behind.
"Dude, what shampoo do you use? Your hair smells great!" Conner commented, reaching out to grab a lock of your hair so he could sniff it once again and you smacked his hand away, staring at your best friend with an expression of disgust mixed with absolute bewilderment.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?"
***
romantic:
You stepped out of the bathroom, gently toweling your hair dry as you tossed some clothes in the hamper as you stepped back into the bedroom.
Dick looked up from his place on the bed, giving you a passing glance before he nearly broke his neck to look back at you in surprise, a grin growing on his face that was partly lovestruck, partly teasing but completely genuine.
"Is that my T shirt?"
You chuckled at the sight of his impish grin that threatened to split his face, choosing to ignore his blatant staring of your ass that peeked from the hem of the shirt.
"Yeah? Is that okay? I didn't bring any clothes with me." You explained, towel joining your clothes in the hamper when you had decided your hair was dry enough and you perched yourself on his lap, his hands immediately coming to wrap around your waist.
"More than okay," He chirped and you kissed his expectant lips, "You look beautiful."
platonic:
The amount of time it took Conner to recognize that there was something different about you was absolutely disappointing as you lay in wait, glancing up at him occasionally as you absentmindedly browsed through your phone.
"Is that my T shirt?"
You hid the cheshire grin on your face and instead schooled an expression of surprise, "Is this your shirt? Oh, I had absolutely no idea! I thought it was a communal shirt! Considering it was left in the dryer for the last couple days!"
He rolled his eyes, immediately knowing what you were on.
"Because you see, I know you wouldn't leave your clothes in the dryer for days so that it would impede me while I was trying to get my laundry done after the countless reminders I had given you. So I just assumed that this shirt was available for the taking. You know what the scholars say: 'Finder's keepers, losers weepers'."
You still managed to give him a smile even though your words came out through gritted teeth.
"I'm sorry, alright? I won't do it again."
You gave him a fake chuckle, "Yes, you won't because as of this moment you don't have any clothes left to launder. Considering they are my clothes now."
He glared at you.
***
romantic:
"Babe! You're never going to believe what just ha—What's wrong?" The delight in his voice immediately dimmed as soon as he caught a glance of you buried underneath the covers with your back facing him.
He knew you were awake; the frantic motions you had made to wipe away your tears as soon as he entered had told him enough.
"Baby, what happened? Why are you crying?"
He didn't even wait for a response before sitting beside you on the bed, leaning down to press several kisses to your hair. You didn't reply, sniffling and hiding your face against your pillow as you felt a fresh new wave of tears hit you.
"Oh, darling."
And then you were back again in the warmth of his loving arms. He wrapped himself tightly around you, making the heavy pain in your chest alleviate and be replaced with the content you usually found when lost in his embrace.
Before you could control it, you were sobbing softly into his shoulder while he cradled you against him, gently patting your back and raking his fingers through your hair, "Let it out; let it all out."
platonic:
Conner could only stare at you in equal parts of concern and disbelief as you continued to wail in front of him, tears streaking down your cheeks in fat droplets, each followed by an equally fat successor, all while you continued to wheeze and gasp for air in the middle of your sobs.
"And-and-and-*gasp*-then he-then he-*gasp*-he—"
"BITCH SPIT IT OUT!"
"He hung up on meeeee!" You wept, now hiding your splotchy face in your hands. He let out an affronted scoff, offended on your behalf but still sitting beside you to gently pat your back. Well, he thought it was gentle. You, on the other hand, felt the sobs being knocked out of you with each 'pat'.
When your loud wails eventually dissolved into equally loud squawks as you attempted to catch your breath, he asked, "Do you want me to beat him up?"
Finally, you were able to crack a smile.

Stepping Outside the Box
Word Count: 1218
Warnings: None
Dick Grayson x Fem!Reader ︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶
Happy Harbor High School buzzed with excitement as the final performance – a culmination of months of hard work – approached. Among the students, you stood out as a star dancer in the drama department, your graceful movements and captivating performances earning you a well-deserved reputation.
Dick Grayson, equally well-known, exuded an infectious energy that attracted attention wherever he went. With a sanguine personality, he easily charmed his peers with his humor and charisma. While not particularly known for his dancing skills, Dick's willingness to take on challenges and his ability to turn any situation into a memorable one made him endearing in his own way.
On an ordinary day, you found yourself in class, focusing on your notes as the teacher called your name, along with Dick's. You had been paired up for the final class project, a performance that held immense weight in your final grades. The task was to create a performance that masterfully blended dance and drama, leaving the rest of the class to watch and learn.
"You and Dick are up first," the teacher announced, her voice cutting through the chatter.
Your heart raced as you and Dick made your way to the front of the class. This project marked a new level of collaboration, and a mixture of excitement and apprehension coursed through you.
As the teacher explained the project, you exchanged a surprised glance with Dick. This was an opportunity for both of you to showcase your strengths and create something unique together.
"You're the star dancer, Y/N," Dick whispered, a hint of nervousness in his voice.
"And you're the charismatic charmer," you replied with a small smile. "Together, we've got this."
With the explanation over, the two of you got to work. Brainstorming sessions and rehearsals became part of your routine, and it was during these moments that the dynamics of your partnership truly began to emerge.
"I'm thinking we start with a graceful ballet routine," you suggested one day, your enthusiasm evident. "Then, we transition into a contemporary dance that captures the emotions of the scene."
Dick leaned back in his chair, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "How about this? We start with a jaw-dropping acrobatic sequence, something that instantly grabs everyone's attention. Then, we transition into a dance routine that's a mix of humor and heartfelt moments."
You blinked, taken aback by his suggestion. "Wait, seriously? You want to start with acrobatics?"
Dick's grin widened, his eyes alight with excitement. "Absolutely. Acrobatics, then dance. Trust me, Y/N, this will be unforgettable."
You hesitated, not entirely convinced. "I'm not sure, Dick. Acrobatics aren't exactly my strong suit."
He leaned in playfully. "Come on, Y/N, you're an incredible performer. And I promise I'll help you nail the acrobatic part."
With a sigh, you realized that Dick's enthusiasm was hard to resist. "Alright, fine. But remember, if this backfires, we're both in trouble."
Dick laughed, his laughter infectious. "Deal. But I promise you won't regret it."
As the days turned into weeks, you found yourself navigating the challenges of blending acrobatics and dance with Dick's vibrant energy. Your grace clashed with his audacity, leading to moments of missteps and laughter-filled attempts that echoed through the school's gymnasium.
"I swear, if I have to attempt one more somersault, I might lose it," you declared one afternoon, collapsing onto a gym mat with a mock sigh.
Dick plopped down beside you, his shoulders shaking with laughter. "Hey, it's all part of the process, right?"
You rolled your eyes, a reluctant smile tugging at your lips. "I suppose so."
As the performance date drew near, the most critical decision you faced was the transition from acrobatics to dance. This moment held the potential to elevate or derail the entire performance.
"I still think we should start with ballet," you insisted, your voice full of conviction. "It's a classic way to set the tone."
Dick shook his head, his grin playful. "And I still believe a jaw-dropping acrobatic display is the way to go. Trust me, Y/N, it'll be a showstopper."
You stared at him incredulously, your competitive spirit ignited. "Are you trying to out-charm me into submission?"
He laughed, raising his hands in mock surrender. "Okay, maybe a little. But seriously, Y/N, we need a strong start to capture everyone's attention."
With a sigh, you begrudgingly agreed, acknowledging the strength in his argument. "Fine, but you better deliver on your promise."
Dick's grin widened, his eyes brimming with confidence. "I promise, you won't regret it."
The day of the performance arrived, bringing with it a mixture of excitement and nerves. Backstage, you and Dick stood side by side, dressed in your performance attire, your hearts racing.
"Dick, are you sure about this?" you asked, a hint of apprehension in your voice.
He turned to you, his blue eyes unwavering. "Absolutely. Trust me, Y/N."
And so, the moment arrived. As the lights dimmed and the music began, you and Dick took the stage. The acrobatics and dance flowed seamlessly, a mesmerizing blend of skill and charisma that left the audience captivated.
The performance reached its climax, and as the final note hung in the air, the crowd erupted in applause. You and Dick stood side by side, breathless but triumphant, sharing a knowing smile that spoke of the shared journey and success.
Backstage, amidst the cheers and congratulations, Dick turned to you with a grin that radiated pride. "Y/N, that was incredible!"
You laughed, a mixture of relief and exhilaration coursing through you. "You were right, Dick. It worked."
As the celebrations continued, you realized that your journey with Dick had been about more than just a performance. It had been a lesson in collaboration, in embracing differences, and in forming connections that transcended expectations. But above all, it had been a lesson in friendship – a friendship that had been born from challenges, laughter, and a willingness to step outside your comfort zones.
As the sun began to set, casting a warm glow over the horizon, you found yourselves on the school's rooftop – a place that had become a symbol of your journey.
"Who would've thought that the popular dancer and the charismatic charmer could make such a great team?" Dick mused, his tone light.
You smiled, leaning against the railing. "Funny how things turn out, right?"
He turned to you, his blue eyes filled with a mixture of gratitude and sincerity. "Thank you, Y/N. This whole experience... it meant a lot."
You met his gaze, warmth spreading through your chest. "You're welcome, Dick. And thank you, too. You reminded me that sometimes, stepping outside our comfort zones leads to the most amazing discoveries."
He grinned, a playful glint in his eyes. "Who knows? Maybe next time, we'll tackle the trapeze!"
You laughed, shaking your head. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves."
As the sun dipped below the horizon, you realized that your journey with Dick Grayson had been about more than just a dance performance. It had been a lesson in collaboration, in embracing the unexpected, and in forming connections that defied stereotypes and expectations. But above all, it had been a lesson in the power of friendship – a friendship that had blossomed in the most unexpected of places and had left an indelible mark on both your hearts.

Truth or Dare Valentine - Young Justice Imagine

Requested by Anon - Can you please do a young justice x reader imagine where the team just finished a mission and is just sitting in the cave bored so they decide to play truth or dare. A lot of juicy secrets are revealed and the reader also confesses their feelings for another hero (your choice)
Requested by Anon - Can we have a Valentine’s Day with the team?
Author’s Note - This are late. I’m sorry.
***
“Wally, slow down. I need to see how you do it.” You shoved at his shoulder. The two of you were sitting on the floor in the living area of the cave. Homework covered the coffee table as you struggled through calculus. Wally knew what he was doing somehow.
He sighed, leaning away from his page so you could look. “To use the power rule, multiply the variable's exponent n, by its coefficient a, then subtract 1 from the exponent.” He pointed to the quote in the book.
“English please.” You sighed before copying his work. Wally rolled his eyes and went back to it, but left his paper in your view.
“Are you cheating?” Kaldur’s voice cut you like a knife. You and Wally flinched, turning to find Kaldur taking a seat in an armchair with a book in his hand.
“Not really. There’s no cheating in Calculus,” you said. You felt heat on your cheeks, going back to copying Wally’s work before it was noticed.
“(Y/N) is the cheat. I’m just here.” Wally smirked when you smacked him.
Kaldur hummed. You peeked at him to find him reading. Taking a deep breath, you tried to relax and focus on trying to puzzle what Wally was doing.
A creepy laugh came from behind you. You rolled your eyes. “Shut up, Rob.”
“What? I can’t be whelmed at how hard Calculus is for you.” Dick hopped over the couch and sat beside you. He cupped his chin, resting his elbow on your textbook. “It’s not that difficult.”
“Says the math geek.” You elbowed him hard. He groaned, rolling on the floor like you killed him. Wally gave you both an annoyed look while Kaldur ignored all of you.
“Guys, guess what?!” M’gann flew into the room. She grinned, clapping her hands excitedly. Conner followed her. He looked bored, but a hint of a smile pulled at his lips at M’gann’s excitement. You almost rolled your eyes.
“What, babe?” Wally looked up suddenly. You wondered if he gave himself whiplash.
“Red Tornado said we could have a Valentine’s Day party!” She let out a squeal, landing next to Dick.
You quickly looked down at your homework, hiding your expression. The others seemed excited, but your heart fell. Valentine’s Day wasn’t a good day for you.
“We’re going to feel the aster.” Dick nudged your side. “What do you think, (Y/N)?”
You forced a smile on your face. “It’s great. Lots of fun.” You glanced up. M’gann was fooled by your grin, but Dick looked slightly alarmed. You quickly went back to your homework.
“What is Valentine’s Day again?” Kaldur asked. You blushed at his words.
“It’s the holiday of love.” M’gann sighed. “People confess their love for others, and be romantic. They also give a lot of candy, and you give out valentines for those you care about.”
“It’s a lot of fun.” Wally blushed. “But Valentine’s Day is only two days away? Are you going to get everything ready in time?” He frowned slightly when M’gann got a glimmer in her eye.
“That’s why we’re all going to get ready for the party.” M’gann took a small notebook out of her pocket. “Artemis, Zatanna, and Raquel are on their way. Now we’re going to divide up the tasks...”
You swallowed hard, knowing you were stuck. “Are you okay?” Dick whispered in your ear. You just shook your head, tightening your hold on your pencil to stop your hand from shaking. Dick’s hand rested on your back.
Taking a deep breath, you kept copying Wally’s work until you got to where he stopped. “I’ll be right back.” You gave everyone a false smile before practically running out of the room.
Luckily, you made it to your room before your lungs stopped working. You curled up into a ball and let yourself soak in your emotions for a few hours.
***
“So M’gann has a list.” Dick unfolded two pieces of paper. You held back a groan when you saw both were written on front and back. You, Dick, Zatanna, and Artemis were at the local big box store. Dick seemed awed by the experience while Zatanna and Artemis just seemed happy to spend money that wasn’t theirs.
“Let’s divide and conquer.” Artemis snatched one paper out of Dick’s hand. “Z and I will take this one. You and Mopey can take the other.”
You flinched at the nickname. Artemis was teasing, but it stun. Dick gave you a smile as Artemis and Zatanna grabbed a cart and headed off.
The store was decked out in red and pink. You felt sick.
Dick took a cart, gesturing toward the baby’s seat. “Want in?”
You smacked his arm. “Only if you go in first.”
Dick laughed. He rolled the cart into the store and straight into the Valentine’s section. You dragged your feet behind him, trying not to think too much.
He tossed bags of candy in the cart along with decorations. “You know we have to get valentines to give out?”
“Amazing.” You narrowed your eyes when he stopped by the display of valentines. He chuckled before picking a set of Justice League valentines with temporary tattoos inside.
“What ones you want?” Dick crossed his arms, eyeing you carefully.
You swallowed past the lump in your throat. “I’m only doing this for M’gann.” You grabbed the first box you saw and tossed it in the cart. Dick hummed, eyeing the box you tossed in.
“Paw Patrol, huh?” Dick laughed. You couldn’t even crack a smile. “Well at least the snap bracelets will have everyone feeling the aster.”
You just shook your head. “Can we just leave this section please?”
Dick shook his head. “No, we still got things to get.” He went to the next aisle. “What’s wrong? You’ve been...off ever since M’gann mentioned having the party.”
You rubbed your temples. It was going to get asked eventually. Old memories drifted back. Your heart dropped to the floor. “I don’t like Valentine’s Day.”
“Noted.” Dick eyed you carefully as you both stopped by a wall of stuffed animals. “Why?”
You took a shaky breath. “Well...you know how schools do the thing where you can pay like a dollar to send a carnation to someone.” You kept your eyes on a stupid looking bear with a giant heart in his arms.
“Sure, I’ve heard of it.” Dick shrugged. “My school does that, but to the extreme.”
“Rich people.” You snorted, shaking your head. “Well, I’m not well liked at my school.” You made your eyes drop to your feet, digging your toe into the floor. Dick shifted next to you. “I mean I hang out with Wally, but he’s a nerd, so...I’m not very popular.”
Dick snorted. “He is a nerd, but go on.” He kept his eyes on you. You felt a blush burn to your cheeks, but you kept your eyes on your feet.
“They did the carnation thing last year and I got one from someone I didn’t really know. She was in one of my classes though and I liked her.” You bit your lip when Dick touched your arm. “It said to meet her behind the school, so like an idiot I went. When I got there, she and her friends were there, laughing at me. Apparently, it was a joke.”
“That’s horrible.” Dick wrapped an arm around you. You let him, tensing slightly at the touch.
“Yeah, well, they had their laugh, called me a loser and said how no one would ever like me,” you chuckled humorlessly. “It kinda soured the holiday for me.”
Dick hummed. “Fair.” He nudged your arm, getting you to look at him. “I’m sorry.”
You shrugged, looking up at the ceiling as you blinked back the tears. “I’d rather we keep this between us.”
“Wally doesn’t know?” Dick raised an eyebrow. You and Wally went to school together.
“I didn’t tell him. He just thought I had allergies that day. He’s not very bright when he doesn’t want to be.” You felt a real laugh work it’s way out of your chest.
Dick nodded, picking up the bear you had been looking at and tossing it in the cart. “Fast feet, slow brain,” he chuckled.
Laughter bubbled in your stomach. “Good one.” You held your hand up for a high five. Dick smirked, slapping your hand with a grin. “How much more shopping do we have?”
“Not much. Most of our list was candy.” Dick handed the list to you before pushing the cart along. You followed him. The bitter feeling eating at your heart was dampen slightly. You hoped you could keep it up for the party.
***
Over the next day, the cave was filled with pre-party jitters. M’gann was everywhere, making sure the cave was properly decorated in all places. You sighed as you quickly realized the only place to get away from Valentine’s Day was your room.
That being said, on the day of the party, you struggled to leave your safe space. M’gann insisted everyone wear red or pink. You were wearing a red shirt with Dracula on it. It gave you some satisfaction, but not enough to open the door and join the party.
You paced your room. A lump formed in your throat. You could hear the laughter from those girls. Pressing a hand against your chest, you tried to slow your heart.
A knock came from your door. You jumped, almost letting out an embarrassing shriek.
“(Y/N), the party is starting,” Raquel said through the door. “Please get out here before M’gann sends Conner to drag you out.”
You let out a slow breath, calming your racing heart. “I’m coming.” You opened the door to find Raquel leaning against your door frame. She was wearing a red sweater with pink hearts on it. A smile pulled on her lips at the sight of you.
“At least you’re wearing red.” She crossed her arms, studying your shirt. You almost blushed. “Dick mentioned that you aren’t a fan of Valentine’s Day.”
“Blabbermouth.” You rolled your eyes, stepping out into the hallway and closing your bedroom door. “He promised he wouldn’t tell.”
Raquel just shook her head. “Yeah, but we were worried about you.” She smiled, nudging your shoulder. “Besides he asked me to make a Valentine’s Day box for you, so M’gann won’t be sad that you didn’t make one.”
The blush crept onto your cheeks, betraying you. “Thanks. I couldn’t bring myself to make one.”
“It’s okay. I get it, trust me.” She nodded down the hall. “I know it’s going to be hard with the décor and everything, but try to have fun. Think of it as a regular party.”
You closed your eyes. Maybe Raquel was right? Just pretend it was a normal party. You felt a slight weight lift off your chest. Suddenly, it was easier to breathe. “That’s a good idea.”
“We’re all your friends, (Y/N). Today is about new memories.” She hooked her arm in yours and pulled you along. “Come on, we got candy to eat and Wally to make fun of.”
You laughed. “Wally’s already made a fool out of himself?”
“Of course, he’s practically planning on proposing to M’gann.” Raquel shook her head, giggling as you both entered the party to enjoy the show.
***
The party remained pretty lame until about ten o’clock. Red Tornado, who had been supervising, left for Watchtower duty. Everyone sat around the living room, watching the end credits of a rom-com.
“So...should we make this party more interesting?” Zatanna asked, getting to her feet once the zeta tube went quiet. She turned off the tv.
“What do you mean?” M’gann sat up straighter, eyes widening. Conner watched her with a smile.
You bit your lip as Wally perked up. He had been moping since his failed attempt to kiss M’gann earlier. “Could we play truth or dare?” Wally said with a sneaky smirk. You met his gaze and rolled your eyes. He just wrinkled his nose at you.
“I always wanted to play truth or dare.” M’gann floated out of her seat.
“What is truth or dare?” Kaldur whispered to you. You winced.
“Truth or dare is a game. Basically, one person asks you if you want to give a truth or take a dare, you chose one and you have to answer honestly or do the dare,” you said softly. The others began to debate playing the game. Dick and Artemis were against, everyone else was for it except for Conner, who seemed indifferent.
“And if you do not answer or perform the dare?” Kaldur raised an eyebrow.
“Then you do the other and if you refuse both, then there is usually some kind of punishment.” You pursed your lips. “It can be fun.”
Kaldur nodded, quietly watching the debate before the two of you.
Artemis stood up, holding up her hands. “Fine, but I want to lay down a rule. We have a right to refuse any dare or questions that are disgusting.” She looked straight at Wally.
“Hey, why are you looking at me? If anything, you should be worried about Raquel,” Wally said, pointing at Raquel as if she was the murderess at the end of a detective novel.
Raquel rolled her eyes and laughed. “As if.”
“It sounds reasonable,” Kaldur added.
“Let’s play.” M’gann spun around in the air. “Can I go first? Someone ask me.”
Wally opened his mouth, but Dick slapped a hand over his mouth. “Truth or dare, M’gann?” Dick said, grinning.
“Rude.” Wally pouted, pushing Dick’s hand away.
“Dare.” M’gann giggled. Conner gave Dick a warning look. Dick just smiled.
“I dare you to shift into Black Canary and give Wally a lecture about common decency.” Dick chuckled his evil little laugh. You exploded with laughter along with everyone else. Wally turned as red as his hair.
M’gann shifted into Black Canary, floating down to her feet and standing over Wally with her hands on her hips. “Wallace West, how many times must we go over how to eat with your mouth closed? I don’t care how many calories you need to eat. Close your mouth when you chew. Very simple.” She leaned down and demonstrated. Wally’s eyes were wide. You sensed he was enjoying this a tad too much.
“I think this confirms he has a crush on Black Canary as well as M’gann, huh?” Zatanna whispered, giggling. You made a note to humiliate Wally with this later.
“Well, I’m feeling the aster now,” Dick said once M’gann finished and shifted back to herself. “That was great, M’gann.”
“Thanks.” She sat back next to Conner. Conner took her hand, looking at her in the way you all knew they were talking via mind link to each other. M’gann smiled before looking around the room carefully. “So I get to ask next?”
Dick nodded. “Anyone, but me.”
You wrung your hands. Luckily, she had her eyes on Raquel. “Truth or dare?”
“Truth.” Raquel grinned, sitting back in her seat with a confidence you envied.
M’gann thought for a second. “If only you and one other person is the last two people in the world, who would it be?”
“That’s a tough one.” Raquel rubbed her temple in thought. “I guess I would probably pick someone in this room.” She looked around, smirking when her gaze fell on Kaldur. Kaldur avoided her gaze. “I guess I’ll have Kaldur.
“Ooo,” Zatanna and Artemis said, giggling like mad. Everyone laughed while Kaldur just gave Raquel a shy smile.
Raquel looked around the room. Wally raised his hand. “Pick me. Come on,” he whined, almost falling out of his seat.
“Oh fine, Wally. Truth or dare?” Raquel shook her head.
“Dare,” he said, puffing out his chest.
Dick laughed. “This is going to be good.” You pressed your hand over your mouth to hold back the volcano of laughter that threatened to escape. It took all you had not to get your phone out to record.
Raquel smirked. “Okay...” She pursed her lips in thought. “I dare you to not talk for the next half an hour.”
Wally deflated. He opened his mouth, but quickly closed it.
“Oh my god, silence. For once.” Artemis sighed loudly, making everyone laugh.
Wally crossed his arms, glaring. You snapped a picture as your phone was unable to stay in your pocket. Wally’s eyes flashed at the sight. You didn’t realize then, you created your worst nightmare.
***
Over the next half an hour, you learned Conner went commando on a regular basis, that Dick was involved in the creation of the make out closet at his school, M’gann liked to pretend to be Black Canary with Conner (that one might have scarred the whole team), and that Artemis would rather marry the Joker than anyone else in the whole world.
Kaldur took a dare. Conner dared him to go out and find a seashell. He did that with ease. M’gann took Conner aside afterwards to explain how dares were supposed to be more...interesting than that.
You only had to reveal that you wet the bed until you were ten. Embarrassing, but you would live.
Meanwhile, Wally stayed quiet. He kept looking at you strangely. You wondered what was wrong. It was funny, but you were starting to have fun, forgetting it was a Valentine’s Day party.
“Okay, Wally. You won your dare,” Raquel said when her phone’s timer went off.
“Good.” Wally smirked at you. You raised an eyebrow at him. “So I get to pick someone, right?” Raquel nodded.
“Wasn’t that nice? Being quiet?” Artemis mocked, tossing a pillow at Wally. Wally caught it, unamused.
“Har, Har.” He threw the pillow back at her. She dodged it with a laugh. Wally looked straight at you. “(Y/N), truth or dare?”
A chill ran down your spine. Goosebumps rose on your skin. You didn’t like what was in his eyes. “Truth,” you said. Truth was safer than dare, you thought.
“Okay.” Wally smirked, a dangerous glint in his eye. “Why does everyone at school call you Gullible Rose behind your back?”
Time froze. Your blood ran cold as you felt the smile drop from your face. Tears filled your eyes. Wally just smiled rather evilly.
Everyone else fell silent at your expression. Dick got to his feet. “(Y/N), don’t answer that,” Dick snapped. His face flushed.
“What? Are you scared?” Wally rolled his eyes, watching you. You glimpsed a brief hesitation in his eyes. You bit your lip. Wally didn’t know, he didn’t mean any harm. At least that’s what you tried to tell yourself.
You took a deep breath. “It’s okay.” You gave Wally a shaky smile. “You really don’t know? Or are you being mean?”
Wally blinked in surprise. Everyone glanced between the two of you. “(Y/N), you don’t have to answer. You can ask the next person,” M’gann said, frowning slightly. You were sure this broke her illusion of Truth or Dare.
“No, it’s okay.” You held up a hand. “The last thing I want is for Wally to claim I didn’t play by the rules. I mean I already copy his homework.” You let out a fake laugh that no one joined you in.
“(Y/N), you don’t have to.” Dick crossed the room and sat down beside you. “You really don’t.”
Letting out a breath you didn’t know you were holding, you looked straight at Wally. “Last Valentine’s Day, I got sent a carnation at school. It said to meet my special someone behind the school. I did, only to find a group of the popular girls there to call me a loser and make fun of me. That’s why they call me Gullible Rose. Stupid really, because it was a carnation, not a rose, but whatever.”
Raquel patted your shoulder in support. Wally’s shoulders dropped. His mouth twitched. You knew he knew who the people were in the story, but honestly, it hurt to say their names.
“That’s why...oh, I’m sorry, (Y/N),” Artemis said genuinely. Zatanna nodded beside her, tears in her eyes.
M’gann started to cry. Conner hugged her. “(Y/N) was bullied. I thought that only happened in movies,” M’gann said, muffled by Conner’s shirt.
“I’m fine, guys. I’m over it.” You waved your hand, trying to smile. However, a frown kept pulling at your lips. Your eyes burned with tears.
“No, you are not.” Kaldur reached over to pat your knee. “And that is alright.”
Wally jumped to his feet. Everyone looked at him. You blinked at how red his face was. His hands trembled. “M’gann, you still have eggs in the fridge?”
“Yes? Why?” M’gann sniffled, pulling away from Conner.
Wally sped to the kitchen and came back with the two full egg cartons. “We’re heading out.” Wally balanced both cartons in one hand and held the other out to you. “Come on, (Y/N). It’s time for some revenge.”
You blinked before that smile you been trying for finally appeared. “Really?”
He nodded. You took his hand and stood up. “Really.”
“Wait, are we doing what I think we’re doing?” Raquel laughed, rubbing her hands together in glee.
“Batman is going to kill me, but it’s worth it.” Dick nudged your side, smirking.
M’gann and Conner looked confused. Artemis and Zatanna quietly explained it to them and soon all four were grinning in anticipation.
Kaldur held up a hand. “I should be worried, yes?”
“Nah, youll be fine.” Raquel kissed his cheek and took his hand to lead him out of the room.
Wally handed you a carton of eggs. “Thanks, Walls,” you whispered as you both followed the others toward the zeta tube.
“Hey, you’d do the same for me.” Wally winked at you. You laughed for real, lighter than air.
***
After leaving Kaldur and Raquel as lookout, the rest of the team stood outside your former crush’s house. The lights were off, but her car was in the driveway.
“So what’s the plan, Baywatch?” Artemis whispered. She gently tossed an egg in her hand.
“(Y/N) gets to throw first.” Wally nodded for you to take an egg out of the carton in your hand.
“I think you should go for the car,” Dick whispered softly in your ear. You rocked on your feet, biting your lip. Butterflies fluttered in your stomach. You didn’t know if they were from excitement or fear or a mix of the two.
You opened your carton and took the cool egg in your hand. It was smooth, you rolled it with your fingers. Wally gave you a smile. “Go for the car,” he said. “She loves the car.”
M’gann tittered behind you, eyes wide with an innocence akin to a child using a swear word for the first time. Artemis and Zatanna hushed her.
“The car huh?” You rolled your shoulder before throwing the egg. It splattered against the rear windshield. A giggle slipped out of you at the sight. “That was fun.”
“Feels good, doesn’t it?” Artemis said as she threw hers and got the side mirror. “Best part if she doesn’t catch it, she’ll have fried eggs on her car in the morning.”
“Ooo, let me get the other one,” Zatanna giggled, taking aim. She threw her egg, but it was a weak throw. As the egg began to fall toward the driveway, Zatanna whispered, “Tih eht edis rorrim.” The egg disappeared only to appear shattered on the other side mirror a moment later.
Everyone laughed, trying to keep quiet. “Nice save,” Dick chuckled softly. He threw his egg, hitting the tail light of the car. “Feeling the aster tonight!”
M’gann hushed him. “Don’t we have to be quiet?” she said through the mind link. A nearby house’s lights turned on. Everyone froze.
“Duck.” Wally grabbed you and pulled you down behind a nearby trash can. Dick, Artemis, Zatanna, and Conner crouched down. M'gann blended in with her Martian camouflage. A shadow passed by the window of the house before the light turned off again.
“We should go. I don’t want you all to get into trouble,” you said, getting to your feet.
“Come on, we have to get rid of all these eggs.” Wally stood back up and threw another egg. It slammed against the trunk. “Besides, we won’t get caught.”
You bit your lip. Taking the cool egg in your hand, you threw it and hit the back bumper.
Everyone kept tossing until only one egg was left. You glanced at Conner, who stood watching the other houses. He hadn’t taken a turn. You went to him and handed him an egg. “Last one. Make it count for me.” He frowned, but you smiled at him brightly.
“Are you sure?” Conner eyed the egg before glancing at the car. “This is your revenge.”
You glanced back at Wally who was goofing off with Dick. “Yeah, go ahead. Besides, this is good life experience for you.” Conner raised an eyebrow. “M’gann will think it’s cool.” He looked at M’gann who quickly looked away blushing.
A rare smirk pulled at Conner’s lip. He took aim. Your eyes widened as his muscles tensed. Wally clapped a hand on your shoulder just as glass shattering filled the night air. The team froze.
The car’s rear windshield was gone. The car alarm blared. Conner bit his lip. Lights turned on in the former crush’s house as well as every house on the block. “Run,” Wally shouted, grabbing your arm to pull you with him.
Everyone ran in different directions. Wally scooped you up in his arms and sped through the backyards of the houses. You couldn’t stop yourself from laughing breathlessly. Pressing a hand against your mouth, you tried to keep quiet.
“That’s the last time we let Conner egg something,” Wally chuckled, slowly to a stop outside of a closed convenience store. He set you on your feet.
Laughter bubbled out of you. “Noted.” You leaned against the store window and caught your breath. “Thanks Walls. I honestly wasn’t looking forward to this day or the party.”
“I’m sorry I brought it up like I did. I was an ass.” Wally crossed his arms, looking down at his feet. “And I’m sorry I didn’t realize what happened earlier. I should have known.”
You shrugged, brushing off invisible dirt from your jeans. “It’s not your fault. Besides, you made it better. I can’t wait to hear about this at school.” You nudged his shoulder as you both started to walk toward the nearest zeta tube. “I hope the rest of the team got away.”
Wally winced. “They’ll be fine, I hope.” He blushed. “Or we’ll die by Batman’s hand.”
You rolled your eyes, snorting. Looking up at the night sky, you let out a deep breath. Your heart fluttered. Valentine’s Day wasn’t so bad with a group of friends that would do anything for you. You glanced at Wally again and wrapped your arm around him. He laughed, half hugging you back.

Always Been You (Dick Grayson x Reader) - Chapter 7
Always Been You (Dick Grayson x Reader)Reader Insert: she/her pronouns Word Count: 5017 Warnings: death, violence, fighting, bloody wounds, angst, infuriatingly oblivious love interest, slowburn Spoilers: Young Justice Seasons 1-3 plot partially, but it ended in 2022 so catch up.
Y/N Prince - miracle daughter of Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor - and Dick Grayson - first adoptive son of the Batman himself - have been best friends since day one. They went to school together, trained together, kept each other's alter ego secret from everyone else, and they founded the Young Justice alongside their friends together.
But as time progressed, Y/N and Dick grew up and Y/N found herself wanting more than friendship with Dick. But he never seemed to indicate that he reciprocated her feelings. And when Wally died and Dick abandoned the team, Y/N realised he never would. So she heads to the one place she knows will help her become a stronger warrior so that one day she can take her mother's place: Themyscira.
Two years after his leave, Dick reaches out to his old friends to help him with a mission. But when he finds out Y/N left too, he chases after her in the hopes to bring her back.
However, when the two finally reunite, it isn't as warm as he hopes. Not to mention Themyscira becomes under siege as they go to war against Echidna, the Mother of Monsters in Greek Mythology, and her army of monstrous children.
Will Dick and Y/N be able to put their past behind them and save the Amazonians' homeland? Or will they fall, unable to tell one another their true feelings?
~~~
T-minus 1 day until Echidna's War.
'All right, everyone!' Y/N called out to the group, forcing them to stop sparring in their pairs and look at her. 'That's enough for today. Go, shower and get ready for our feast. You deserve to enjoy this night before tomorrow.'
'Yes, Princess!' the warriors said in unison, then quickly dispersed, leaving the training grounds to head back into the city to prepare for tomorrow.
'You should get ready too, Princess,' Calliope said, looking after her sisters-in-arms chatting and walking down the stairs to their homes. Y/N's heart pulled at the thought that she'd never see such happy smiles again after tonight.
'In a moment, Calliope,' Y/N answered, looking around the remaining groups that were finishing up their drills. Her gaze fell on one particular acrobat who was teaching the group blocking techniques and some acrobatic manoeuvres to avoid an opponent. All the while doing so, Dick was smiling, encouraging the women to keep trying.
'He's not too bad,' Calliope said with amusement. 'For a mortal man, that is.'
Y/N turned to Calliope only to see a knowing smile on her friend's face. Only then did Y/N realise she was smiling stupidly wide, and made quick work to get rid of it. 'I guess so. But he's stupidly naive and impulsive. He'll get himself killed because of it.'
'Maybe,' Calliope said thoughtfully as she looked back at Dick for a moment before facing Y/N again. 'But isn't that how a true warrior should die? In battle fighting for what's right?'
Y/N didn't like the thought of Dick being clawed open or beheaded by monsters, so she quickly said, 'It's not his battle to fight in, though. He shouldn't be here.'
'But he is, Y/N,' Calliope insisted, coming to stand in front of Y/N so she had no choice but to make eye contact. 'And that's what makes him even braver. He's here helping us save our home; a home he had never seen until a few days ago; a home that has no connection to him whatsoever but he is here trying to save it.'
Before Y/N could protest, Calliope gripped Y/N's hands in a manner that was desperate and insistent. 'You should tell him. Before it's too late.'
Y/N furrowed her brows in confusion. 'What are you-'
'Oh, don't play dumb with me,' Calliope interrupted. 'I see how you look at him. You're worried about him. Which means you care, despite everything you say to convince us otherwise.'
Y/N went to deny it but couldn't find the words to do so. Her heart was being torn in so many different directions any time she thought about Dick, she didn't know what exactly she felt for him. It was hard to put into words what he meant to her, the good and the bad.
When she remained silent, Calliope patted Y/N's hands gently then dropped them as she too walked away, leaving Y/N standing frozen in a battle with her head and her heart.
Y/N could've been standing there for one minute or an hour for all she knew, until someone waved their hand in front of her face and broke her from her trance.
'Y/N,' Dick said, his brows furrowed in concern. 'You okay?'
Y/N took a deep breath in as she came back to the moment. 'Yes. Yes, I'm fine. Just...'
'Worried?' Dick offered, and Y/N was grateful for the change in subject. 'Well, I wouldn't be if I were you. These women are stronger than some of the heroes back home.'
Y/N raised a playful eyebrow. 'Only some?'
Dick chuckled. 'Okay, all of them.'
The two shared a quiet laugh, and it brought Y/N a sense of normalcy and nostalgia that warmed her heart.
She looked around as the remaining warriors finished their trainings and made to leave for their homes. Y/N could almost name each and every one of them, and there was the possibility that after tomorrow she would never see them again.
'Echidna is the one who should be worried,' Y/N said, her voice slightly shaky with anger and determination. She knew that if death were to come tomorrow, Y/N wouldn't be able to save them all. But she'd be damned if she didn't try to.
A warm calloused hand tentatively enclosed her fist, and the touch was enough to cease Y/N's shakes. 'I agree,' Dick said, two simple words seemingly echoing around the quiet training ground. His smile was smooth but genuine and Y/N could've believed they were eighteen again and back on the mainland and with the team. Back when his smile eased all her problems, back when Wally and all their lost friends weren't gone. Back when it was just them, and everything in Y/N's world made sense.
But now Y/N felt like she was on another planet, and they were about to go to war with the Mother of Monsters and nothing made sense anymore.
Y/N slowly pulled her had away from Dick's and cleared her throat as she stared straight ahead. 'We should probably get ready for the feast. Could be the last one we have in a while.' Or ever, she wanted to add, but Dick was an optimist and would ridicule her for thinking such thoughts and she really didn't want to keep talking with him.
'That's right,' Dick said, eyes brightening up at the thought of food. 'I bet you guys put on the best meals, as well.'
Y/N just rolled her eyes as they made their way across the training grounds to the stairs that would lead them back into town. 'A true boy. Only ever thinking about food.'
'A true girl. Turning every compliment into an insult.'
Y/N shoved him and he shoved her back and the two couldn't hold back radiant smiles. It astounded Y/N how easily they fell back into old habits. How familiar and safe Dick was.
'You should tell him. Before it's too late.'
Tell him what exactly? Y/N could hardly discern what mixture of emotions was running through her, let alone wheedle down to a specific point what her true feelings were for Dick. She'd been upset for so long, then angry at him. But the past three days he'd shown himself to be the Dick she'd always known and come to love. Kind, brave, funny, strong, compassionate.
It all lead her to a very confusing fork in the metaphorical road of her heart.
Even so, there was something she felt for him...
Just as Dick took a step down the stairs, Y/N found herself reaching out to him this time, bringing him to a stop with her soft grip on his shoulder. 'Wait.'
Dick looked over his shoulder immediately, his piercing blue eyes glued onto her with curiosity and wonder. 'Yeah?' he asked.
Y/N took in a deep breath, calming her racing heart as she said, 'I'm sorry.' When Dick only frowned with confusion, she elaborated. 'I'm sorry for doubting you. For being... well, I haven't been the most welcoming of people have I?'
Dick didn't say a word, but he turned fully around to face her, his face as serious as it was the other night on another staircase. Y/N's hand dropped to her side, and she found she could not look away from Dick's eyes as the words started falling out.
'I guess... I just didn't think you cared about us anymore,' she said. 'About the team, about me. And it made me so angry, but then you came to the one place I thought I could finally find peace again and I just couldn't accept that you were here for me. But I see now I was wrong.'
'No, I was the one who was wrong,' Dick said with a shake of his head. 'You had every right to be angry with me, in fact you still do. You were right, I was ignorant and only thought of my pain in those years I was away. I didn't think how coming here would affect you after everything I've done.'
Dick returned to the landing, now towering over Y/N, and took her hands in his and said in a gentle voice, 'I know I am far from forgiven, but I promise you, I will spend whatever time I have left on this earth trying to make it up to you.'
Y/N could hardly breathe with the way Dick was looking at her. It was almost dream-like, and suddenly all of her teenage emotions came rushing back into her bloodstream. The adoration, the awe, the love - it had remained all this time, she'd just repressed it in her time of pain and loss.
And it could've just been her, but something flickered briefly across Dick's face - the slightest arch of his brows, the minuscule twitch of his mouth. An emotion Y/N had no time to discern before Dick was the one stepping back and resuming his journey down the stairs, a careless smile on his face like the moment never happened.
'The showers await us, Princess,' he jested as he waved her after him. 'Wouldn't want to be late for the feast!'
Y/N stared after him for a moment, trying to process what just happened. He was serious, he would do anything to make it all up to her. And that look on his face...
Y/N shook herself out of her imagination. Probably just seeing things, she told herself as she followed Dick down the stairs. She wouldn't get her hopes up again.
Not for Dick Grayson of all people.
~~~
When Dick Grayson arrived back at his room, he drew himself a bath and allowed himself to relax if only for a few minutes. The first night in his room he'd been affronted to find a group of women ready to bathe him like a child. He'd argued with Y/N about them, her saying it was their tradition and all. Eventually she caved and dismissed the women from his room. He laughed at the memory, thinking beneath his own anger that she looked cute riled up.
There it was again - the thoughts he had never thought before.
He couldn't deny Y/N had grown into a beautiful young woman, one who stood by her values and always fought for the right thing. She'd stuck by the team when he couldn't, and for that he would always admire her.
But then again he had always admired her. That's part of the reason she was his best friend. She was this strong and loving individual that had always stuck by him and the others. She had the most infectious smile, and her laughter was like music-
Dick bolted upright in the bath, his heart racing at a million miles per hour as an alarming thought entered his mind. Do I like Y/N?
Well, it wasn't a matter of like. Of course he liked her, she was his best friend after all. But they'd never... she'd never implied...
He recalled when they were younger how many people - including their parents - said that he and Y/N would end up together. They were each other's better half, and honestly part of the reason he ended up breaking up with each and every one of his past girlfriends. Because they couldn't see how important Y/N was to him.
That didn't mean he liked her like that... did he?
Dick splashed his face one last time before leaping out of the bath to get ready for the feast. Maybe all the training he was doing was making him tired and delusional. After all, even if he truly felt that way for her, she'd never feel the same. Maybe once - though there was no telling so - but certainly not now.
However, they'd had a moment on the stairs this afternoon, and something felt... different. The way she looked at him had sent his gut rolling with something akin to a roller coaster, and the vision of her hair in the golden rays of sun had taken his breath away completely. Dick couldn't remember the last time he'd felt that way - completely and utterly entranced.
Dick dressed himself in the only set of clothes he'd come in and opened his door to find Calliope and other guards standing in the corridor.
'We are to escort you down to the feast, Mr. Grayson,' Calliope explained. 'By order of the Queen herself. You will be seated at their table tonight.'
Dick found this surprising as he usually sat with the soldiers of the group he'd trained that day, getting to know them and laughing with them. But he was to sit at the royals table, which consisted of Queen Hippolyta, some generals, and Y/N.
When they entered the dining hall, the feast had pretty much begun as hundreds and hundreds of women were already seated at long tables that ran almost from the door to the dais where the Queen sat chatting with other generals at their own long table. Dick made sure to greet any woman he knew as he was guided up to the royals' table.
'So nice of you to join us, Mr. Grayson,' the Queen said as Dick was seated.
'The pleasure is all mine, your Majesty,' he replied politely, then noted the empty chair between him and the Queen. 'Is Y/N not down yet?'
'She is usually late to these sorts of things,' the Queen replied defeatedly. 'She always fights with the maidens about her hair and dress. In that respect, she is very much her mother.'
As Queen Hippolyta turned back to the speak with the generals, a quiet voice leant in behind him and quietly said, 'Eager to see the princess are we?'
'W-What?' Dick exclaimed to Calliope. 'No, I'm not. I just... I'm just making conversation, that's all.'
'Whatever you say, mortal,' Calliope teased, her smile knowing and irritating as she remained by Dick's head.
He turned to her, annoyed. 'What do you mean by that?'
Calliope just shrugged. 'Nothing nobody doesn't already know.' When Dick just stared blankly at her, she rolled her eyes and said, 'You cannot tell me you do not feel for our princess. Do you not?'
It was like she was reading his mind or something. It was a little freaky and off-putting. But Dick was used to off-putting questions - journalists used them all the time on him when Dick did press interviews with Bruce.
So he calmly sat in his chair and looked out to the busy hall in front of him. 'Well, I still have the bruises from our first sparring match when I first got here so I guess I do feel something because of the princess.'
Calliope chuckled and shook her head. 'Avoid the question all you want, mortal. But Truth always has an interesting way of making itself known.'
Dick didn't like her know-it-all tone, and so finally turned around and said in a quiet but hard tone. 'My relationship with Y/N isn't up for debate here. She is my best friend, and the only thing I'm interested in is restoring her trust in me and saving your island.'
'How noble...' Calliope started, but her attention turned to the opening of the hall's doors and so Dick's eyes followed. He was struck still at the vision he was met with.
It was Y/N, draped in a flattering arrangement of white cloth that was synched at her waist with a golden chain. Her H/C hair had been put up in a loose bun, held together by golden pins. Plain sandals covered her feet as she made her way towards the dais, the many bracelets and arm bands adorning her arms flashing golden in the firelight.
Dick knew he was gaping, but he couldn't help it. No one could it seemed, as Y/N greeted many women along the way, and whispers of her beauty echoed throughout the hall. When she drew closer, her eyes connected with Dick's, and instead of the cold or distant expression she'd given him since day one, she offered him an embarrassed smile.
That brief interaction sent his heart in motion. It reminded him of the time they had gone to prom in their junior year of school. It had been the first time Dick had seen Y/N with makeup and in a dress. She'd given him the same embarrassed look, and he had been just as transfixed.
Dick felt someone lean in to his ear as he continued to watch Y/N make her way to the dais. 'But are you sure there is no other reason that you are here?' Calliope finished with a whisper.
She stepped back into her position before Dick could respond, not that he knew what he would say anyway. His gut was rolling so much with indecision that he thought he might throw up.
He was brought out of his thoughts as Y/N took her seat between him and the Queen. 'Grandmother,' she greeted coolly.
'Y/N,' the Queen responded, a kind smile stretching her lips. 'You look beautiful, my dear.'
'Thank you, but I still do not understand why I must wear this to every feast we have,' Y/N argued.
'It is tradition, and you are Themyscria's princess,' the Queen explained, tapping her granddaughter's hand in comfort before returning to her previous conversation.
Y/N sighed in mild defeat as she sat back in her chair. After a moment, she clocked that Dick was looking at her and sighed again. 'Not a single word from you, Grayson.'
'I wasn't going to say anything!' Dick retorted, quickly collecting himself.
'I can see it in your eyes that you're going to laugh at me.'
It took Dick a moment to realise she wasn't joking. She fidgeted with the loose cloth that draped over her body, eyes flickering from him to the crowd and back. She genuinely thought she looked ridiculous. If he was sixteen still, maybe he would've made a comment or two.
But sixteen was a long time ago now.
'No, I wasn't,' he said, and his answer must've surprised him as she turned to him with a perplexed expression on her face. 'You look... You look beautiful, Y/N.'
Y/N's E/C eyes scanned over his face, possibly searching for any kind of lie or detection of amusement. But she obviously didn't find anything, as she smiled at him, her eyes shining with surprise. 'Thank you. I would offer you the same compliment, but you've looked the same as you did the day you got here.'
'Ruggedly handsome?'
'Hmm, I'd say a bit worse for wear.'
Dick let out a painful groan as he slapped a hand across his chest where his heart was encased under. 'Wow! Way to wound a guy.'
Y/N just laughed, and Dick joined her, genuinely happy to see her smiling as they used to together. Once the laughter died, he said, 'But seriously, Y/N, you look great. And... I'm just glad you're not calling me Nightwing anymore.'
'Well,' Y/N started, fiddling with one of her bracelets, 'I figured you deserved that much after all your help.'
Help. That's right. He was helping her save her new home and new family. It wasn't because she'd forgiven him and were suddenly best friends again.
'I'm sorry to interrupt,' a young girl said, coming to stand on the other side of the table. 'But I just had something to discuss with you, Princess.'
'Of course,' Y/N answered, turning all her attention to the girl. 'Go ahead.'
Throughout dinner, Y/N was kept busy by other conversations with warriors and young girls and teachers alike that all had questions for their princess. Y/N answered every single one of their queries with enthusiasm and grace, not batting an eye as she ate and spoke and listened.
She was a natural and a pro. The whole time she spoke, Dick couldn't help but think about the two years he'd been gone for and how many times Y/N had to soothe a fear, had to deliver a confident speech that would encourage the team to keep going no matter how bleak the future seemed.
It saddened and pained him to think he'd forced that responsibility onto her in his absence. But she'd done it, held the team together and she was doing that right now as well for her people.
Upon the conclusion of dinner, the Queen called for silence as she rose to address the hall. 'Evening everyone,' she started, her voice radiating composure and control. 'Tonight, we are in the presence of our own history in the making. Tomorrow, we face Echidna, the Mother of Monsters.'
The mention of the goddess sent whispers of fear rattling throughout the crowd, but they were quickly silenced by the raise of the Queen's hand. 'I know some of you, if not all of you, are fearful of the coming events. Echidna is a foe that will not be so easily defeated. However, this is what we have trained for. This is what us Amazons are built for.
"Think of the young women, young girls and infants in their houses sleeping peacefully right now. Think of the women you grew up with, of the friendships and sisterhoods you have forged in those years. Think of the woman beside you now. That is who you fight for when Echidna comes. Not ourselves, but the women" - the Queen made a pointed look at Dick as she continued - "and man that reside on this island tonight. They will need you when the fight comes. So are you ready?'
The entire hall exploded with cheers and whistles of eagerness, and that brought a bright smile to Queen Hippolyta's face. 'In that case, enjoy tonight. Dance, eat, drink, sing. Be free.'
By the flick of the Queen's wrist, the band in the corner Dick hadn't seen started playing beautiful music and the tables were moved to create room for a dance floor.
'Princess, you must join us for a dance!' Some young girls came around the table and gently pulled Y/N from her seat, to which Y/N just laughed as she allowed them to drag her to the dance floor. Dick watched Y/N join the other women, watched her smile stretch wide and bright, watched her embrace and let herself go as she danced.
When was the last time she'd done that?
'...when we last spoke, she sounded like she didn't want to be found. That she would come back to us when she was ready...'
'Maybe she doesn't want to see you, have you considered that?'
Kaldur's words haunted him, had been since he left M'gann and Connor's house. He just hadn't taken his friend's warning seriously until now.
Kaldur was right.
Dick rose from his seat and quickly excused himself from the party, suddenly overwhelmed by the music and the full room. He escaped to one of the balconies nearby and was relieved that he could finally hear himself think. And yet now he could hear it all in the outdoor silence - the conflicting emotions and thoughts running through him.
Did she really belong here or back home?
Did he mean as much to her anymore as much as she meant to him?
What did he truly feel for her?
What will happen when Echidna strikes tomorrow?
So many issues and so little time to solve them all.
He didn't know how long he stood there, looking out over the mountain and ocean, over the flickering lights of those who feasted in their homes. It could've been hours, and yet the full moon barely moved.
'What are you doing out here?'
Dick was knocked out of his mind at the sound of the sweet voice, and he turned to find Y/N standing on the steps that lead back inside to the bustling party, an exhausted grin adorning her flushed face. With the firelight behind her and the moon shining onto her dress, Dick could've sworn she glowed divinely.
'S-Sorry?' he called out, confused as to why she was out there in the first place.
'I asked what are you doing out here all by yourself on such a beautiful night?' Y/N repeated, walking down the steps before making her way over to him at the balcony's edge. 'You're usually one for parties if high school was any indicator.'
Dick tried to laugh, but it came out as a weak cough. 'Yeah well, we're a long way from high school, aren't we.'
'What's going on with you?' Y/N asked, and Dick could feel her stare on him. 'You've been oddly... quiet this evening.'
'I just don't feel well is all. Don't worry I will be fine for the battle tomorrow.'
'That's a load of crap, Grayson and you know it.'
Dick didn't reply, just looked out over the ocean in the hopes that she would leave. But she didn't and Dick finally turned to meet her stare. It was like she was undressing him, but not in the physical sense. In the way she'd always been able to read him and say silently that she knew he wasn't okay.
That one stare made him feel more vulnerable than being naked, or doing flips off a podium twenty metres in the air with no safety net to catch him.
'I just... I've been doing some thinking,' he started, 'and I think that... if we both survive this... that you should stay here. On Themyscira. If that is what you want.'
Y/N scrunched her brows in confusion. 'So... you're giving me permission to stay here if we all live through Echidna's war? Seriously?'
Dick turned to her fully. 'No, I mean yes- But no you don't need my permission to stay, I just... I'm sorry this is coming out all wrong.' He took a calming breath before starting again. 'What I mean to say is, I came after you for the wrong reasons. I was being selfish and stubborn. But I want you to be happy. And seeing you dance tonight with the other women... well, I can't remember the last time myself or any of the team brought you that kind of happiness.'
'What about your mission?' she asked, her voice distant, almost scared.
Dick flashed her a casual smile. 'Don't worry about it. I'll manage. I never should've come here in the first place. I'm sorry.' Dick gestured back to the stairs and started back-tracking towards them. 'Let's go rejoin the party while we still can, huh? You're right, I do love a good party.'
Just as he turned his back, Y/N called out. 'I'm not.'
He paused for a moment, then looked over his shoulder to find Y/N looking at him with an intensity that almost sent him staggering. 'What?' he asked.
'I'm not sorry you came,' she answered, taking a deep breath in to maintain her composure.
Surprised by her answer, Dick turned back to her. 'You're not?'
She shook her head, then started fidgeting with her dress and looked down. 'Am I angry you came? Yes, initially. Am I still hurting because of what you did, and is your presence just a daily reminder of that pain? Most definitely.'
That last one struck him deep. He had never wanted to be the cause of so much pain. Not to her of all people.
After another deep breath, Y/N finally looked up at him. 'But that doesn't mean I didn't miss you.'
There it was again, that look she'd given him on the stairs earlier, in fact she'd given it to him many times before, he realised. Not just on Themyscira but back home, back when they were sixteen. It was the look of truth and honesty, of adoration and care.
His heart thumped so heavily in his chest he swore Y/N could hear it, and while he didn't understand what the thought of Y/N missing him implied, he knew how it made him feel.
'I missed you too,' he said honestly, returning to stand in front of Y/N. He didn't know why, but it felt right to reach for her hands, and she didn't push him away as he enclosed his fingers around hers. 'A-And being here has made me realise something else, too.'
'What's that?' Her breath fanned his face they stood so close, closer than what simple friends should. But he didn't care, it felt right, it felt natural.
'That I... I just...' He couldn't get the words out, they were so heavy with meaning they got stuck in his throat. Both afraid and excited to say them aloud, he couldn't decide what fate would be worse. Be honest and rejected, or be honest and see if she felt the same.
'You what, Dick?' she whispered, eyes never leaving his.
They both realised that it was the first time she'd called him by his first name since he'd landed on Themyscira. And if that wasn't a sign, then Dick didn't know what would be.
'I just...' Dick started, but a shadow crossed over Y/N's face and he quickly turned to find a a giant winged creature with fangs and a humanoid body reaching to him with its claws.
'Get down!' Dick cried as he turned and dove to the ground with Y/N. He felt the talons of the creature brush against his back as he partially covered Y/N out of natural instinct. The creature screeched as it soared high above again, disappearing into the darkness despite the moonlight.
'Are you okay?' Dick asked as he helped Y/N to her feet.
'Yes, I'm fine,' Y/N said, her eyes trained on the sky.
'What was that?' Dick asked, trying to spy the creature but there was no sign of it anywhere.
'That was a harpy,' Y/N answered, then her eyes locked on to something in the sky, her face paling with fear.
Dick followed her gaze and found himself frozen with fear himself. The harpy had come back but with more of its kind. Many more. So much so they blocked out the moon and engulfed the palace in darkness.
'Echidna's war...' Y/N breathed out in disbelief. 'It has begun.'

YOU...YOU CAN DO THAT? “a green lantern x team"
WARNINGS/TAGS + sfw, they/them (gender neutral) reader addressed as green lantern (the creative streak continues), no beta we die like jason todd, canon-typical violence (not heavily detailed).
A/N + for @noom147 , thank you for your request! i lost the ask (AGAIN) because i can't post from where i am rn and tried to be smart about it (AGAINN) so yeah. i hope you enjoy it despite the fact that it was written at the ass crack of dawn and i was DEFINITELY not falling asleep ❤️. anyways enough yapping, ENJOYYYYY.
REQUEST + "TBA"

ROB & KF What's worse than one idiot walking into the headquarters of a cult that's known for offering human sacrifices to their weird leader?
Two idiots walking into the headquarters of a cult that's known for offering human sacrifices to their weird leader.
And for turning his/her/their back on the two idiots for just 10 seconds- Green Lantern might just be the biggest idiot of all.
He/she/they are sprinting down the dingy halls of the old temple, deaf to all other sounds other than the weird speech some old guy is giving (and their raging heartbeat).
The speech started off as nothing more than a faint murmur, like your next-door neighbour’s TV that you can just make out; but as he/she/they dash towards the room at the end of the hall (shoving their way through whatever random members straggle along the halls) it's getting louder and louder.
Behind the closed door, an undercover Robin and Kid Flash are trapped inside a glass box (that looks nothing short of a Jigsaw trap), staring at the old man who’s back is turned to them.
"But do not fret." The man sighs wistfully, turning on his heels to approach the glass box currently holding Robin and Kid Flash. He takes a second to take them in, before he’s turning to the console on his right and pressing a button.
With a soft click, water starts rushing up from the cracks of the floor under their feet.
"Your sacrifice will not be in vain."
Yet before Robin and Kid Flash can even start to panic, the doors are swinging open, and a (extremely dishevelled) undercover Green Lantern is marching towards the cultists with a glowing bat in their hands.
The cultist turns around, nearly jumping out of his skin at the teenager with the glowing bat being swung over his/her/their shoulder.
"How did you-!"
Thunk!
The pair blink at the heaving Green Lantern.
He/she/they are too busy staring down at the unconscious man to make sure he stays down, all while catching his/her/their breath. The energy used to construct the bat slowly starts to disintegrate in his/her/their hands.
KF whistles, and that seems to get him/her/them out of his/her/their trance and moving up to the console to press a couple buttons.
A couple clicks later, and the water starts draining itself, and the ceiling of the box lifts open, and that's all it takes for Green Lantern to hunch over the console to continue catching his/her/their breath.
"Now we know if we ever need a batter-" Robin starts.
"Shut the fuck up." He/she/they wheeze, glaring at the two boys who've finally made their way out the box.
"I... have never... in my life... ever ran that fast... all... because of you... idiots."
Kid Flash blinks at them. "...At least you have a great swing."
"Shut it."
AQ, MG & SUP "M'gann!"
Green Lantern can hear Superboy's voice echo across the warehouse, and the worry in his call is enough to send him/her/them flying towards them, noting the heat radiating from their side of the warehouse as he/she/they approach.
"Is she okay?" Green Lantern yells, dropping down from the air to meet them.
Miss Martian's out cold in Superboy's arms, sweat lining her brow and she's frowning even in her unconscious state. Aqualad's not doing much better either, sat against the wall and his breathing's laboured as he looks up at him/her/them with an unfocused look.
"Miss Martian and I are at our limits- the heat is far too much for us." He mutters as Green Lantern's pulling him to his feet.
"I can't blame you- why is it so hot here anyway?"
There's a sudden sound of metal, and the two standing members are whipping around to stare at a dishevelled, angry mobster who's staring them down with a wide grin.
In his hands, is possible the largest flamethrower he/she/they have ever seen.
"That'll do it."
He's got them cornered, and with one member down and their leader following suit, there's not much they can do.
"I got this." Superboy growls, about to set Miss Martian down before Green Lantern's taking a step away from the group and towards the mobster.
"Screw that- get behind me!"
Green Lantern is bracing him/her/themselves, his/her/their right fist extended and his/her/their left hand at their wrist to support his/her/their arm up as the crazed gangster cocks the oversized flamethrower onto his hip.
He/she/they can see the coil in the barrel of the flamethrower burn a bright orange just before-
...
There's a horrible smell of burnt metal and the sudden silence in the warehouse, and by the large cloud of blackened smoke, the man drops his weapon with a satisfied hum.
But just as he's about to turn around, the smoke clears, and his smile drops.
A green bubble surrounds the four teens, and he can just make out Green Lantern's smirk past the blinding glow of his/her/their ring.
ART
"Crap." Artemis mumbles to herself, looking over her shoulder to her suddenly empty quiver.
Damn-it, she could've sworn she still had at least 5 more left-
She yelps as a large crystal shard lands a hair past her ear, and she's frantically ducking down and crawling towards a nearby truck.
Reaching a hand to her in-ear, she's finds herself with no choice but to call for help.
"I need-!"
Artemis finds herself blinking at Green Lantern, who's staring back at her from where he/she/they are floating in the air.
"What are you doing here?" She asks.
"Was passing through the area when I heard reports of Icicle Jr attacking. Figured I'd check it out." Green Lantern shrugs. "Need help?"
"Something like that." She sighs. "I'm out of arrows."
Green Lantern tilts his/her/their head at her.
"You're out? Already?"
"Yeah." Artemis grumbles from where she's crouched, "I could've sworn I had more-"
"Don't worry, I got this." Green Lantern smiles brightly, offering her a thumbs up.
...
"Don't tell me you chickened out already!" Icicle Jr. laughs, making his way down the now empty street. "I was just starting to have fun."
"Hey you!"
Icicle Jr whips around, immediately throwing out a shard that Green Lantern blocks easily with an easy wall construct. As he/she/they drop the construct and lets the ice crash to the floor, the two stare each other down for a moment.
"Who the hell are you?" The criminal frowns, tilting his head at the flying teen. "Ain't never seen you 'round here before. Didn't realise even the Lanterns have a sidekick."
He/she/they smile at him, but it's not the cheery, light-hearted smile that Artemis got.
No, it's a smile that has her shivering slightly from where she's hiding- the customer service smile that a cashier gives when they're a second away from jumping across the counter and bash someone's head in.
Artemis is only proving right when his/her/their ring starts to glow, and she watches as what looks like a literal (not actually- it's still made from energy) bazooka assembles in his/her/their hands. Its weight is heavy, evident by the fact that they drop slightly in the air as they place it over their shoulder, and its clear even Icicle Jr. is unsettled.
"Because they don't have a sidekick." He/she/they explain with that creepy smile still painted on their face.
"I'm just the cool one."

Introductions Pt 2
Pt 1
Pt 3

Summary: Reader is a vigilante on young justice who goes to the same school as Walls. Only Wally doesn't know the readers identity, but she knows his. SLOW BURN
Wally West x Fem!Reader
"Hi, I'm Wally West. It's nice to meet you."
As his voice rang in my ears, and he seemed to look back at his book, my heart would begin to race. I sat there for a moment too long, so I quickly would pick up my own voice, even if it cracked. "I'm y/n l/n. It's nice to meet you too." He doesn't know. He can't know.
Wally would once again look back up from the textbook, his eyes seeming to scan along my face. "You're not new. I know you." shit. "Well, I just changed classes, not schools. I've been at Keystone my whole life. I'm just not the most popular person."
"Oh cool, I hope you like the advanced course. If you ever need any help I'll gladly give you my number. Science is one of the only things I seem to be good at." he genuinely doesn't know? I'm glad, at least this is my chance. Let's find out who Kid Flash is under all the spandex.
He's a nerd. He's a total nerd.
Often, before class, I would find myself in a conversation about the latest scientific fact, most of them being obscure. He seemed to always speak with his hands, a grin never leaving his face. I found out his uncle is a forensic chemist, which helps explain his passion for all things scientific. Even if he didn't outwardly say it, I could tell he meant a lot to him. But when the class would eventually begin, Wally would totally shut off the conversation, rarely continuing it over a note. He took the class very seriously.
He's not exactly how I would have expected him to be. Compared to how he is as Kid Flash, he's much more sporadic. He seems to always lead a conversation, which I don't always mind, but when he asked me about what I liked one time, he didn't interrupt. He let me rant for a while before I realized what I was doing, though he only encouraged me to go on with a smile.
...
"So that's why I've got to go to Central City for the week." Wally lied about some other excuse for a mission. It felt wrong knowing he's really going to fight crime. I have no room to talk, really. I'll be busy at Keystone myself. I wonder how much of it is actually a lie and how much is really fact.
"It's fine, I understand it's not your fault, but i'll miss you." Wally seemed to avoid eye contact almost if my comment had made him uncomfortable. I was telling the truth though, I would miss him. Even more than I would like to admit. I didn't pressure him about it further as the class went on.
But when it was time for us to take notes from the textbook, and the whole class was sent on their own, Wally would slide me a folded piece of notebook paper. He didn't even look at me, so if any outside eyes had seen the exchange, it would look as if he was returning something of mine. I would quietly open the slip to be greeted by Wally's hastily written writing.
Hey, text me the work I'll miss next week
My eyes scanned the page only to land on his number at the bottom. He could just get it from the teacher, but the fact he trusted me enough with his perfect grade was flattering. Wally's handwriting is another one of those things I didn't think would differ from note to note. Ones he had the time to write at home are always much neater, though his handwriting is much bigger than normal standards would accept, I don't mind. The notes he writes me at school are always messy, almost like he's trying to write faster than he can but doesn't want to use his speed, so in the end, it's just much slopper. If one didn't know Wally, they could rightfully assume the contrast between his writing could be the work of two different people.
Sure, but is it just for the notes right?
I would put in my own words under his before slipping it back to him. He would immediately slide it back into my hands. I didn't even think he wrote anything until I opened it again. This time, his handwriting was perfectly placed, almost as if it was typed.
Yes.
I tuck the paper in my jacket pocket, I'll put it in my drawer with the rest when I get home. I feel bad about throwing them away, so they sit in my bedside table, its not like anyone would ever go into my room and find them anyway. Sometimes, I like to read over them before I go on patrol. It reminds me of our conversation at the warehouse. One where I'm not as alone as I think I am.
Yet the nervous tapping of Wally's pencil brings me back to the class. He taps it ten times before flipping the pencil back over, continuing to write. No matter what, he seemed to always tap it ten times. In a way, it felt like he knew I zoned off. It was him bringing me back to everything. Even if it wasn't intentional. Wally fidgets a lot when he tries to focus or distract himself, the repetitive movements being a form of comfort.
...
It's Tuesday now, and I'm perched on top of a building in full gear. My phone sits in my hand with Wally's contact staring back at me. I need to text him the work from yesterday. I haven't even said hello yet. Hello is too formal, we are friends, a hey would fit better.
These past two days have been abnormally quiet. His empty seat in class is only a reminder of why he's really gone. I hope he's okay.
FLEETFEET
Hey, it's y/n. Here's the work from yesterday and today. Hope everything is okay in CC

I would sit there for a bit, looking at the screen. Maybe he's already on some sort of mission. Why is texting so stressful? As soon as I started to shut off my phone, it would light back up with his reply.

Hey y/n! Central City has
been pretty cool, my Uncle Barry
showed me around his work at Star Labs today. That place is surprisingly
really huge. Thanks for sending
the work.
Seen 11:27 pm
Sooooo wyd?
Seen 11:28 pm
Its almost midnight, he should really go to sleep. I should really start patrol. This really isn't a good idea.
Nothing much hbu? just watching
traffic go by. I swear I've seen three
crashes in the span of two
hours ppl r wild.
Seen 11:31 pm
Dude you should see it here.
Traffic is actually so slow it
makes me want
to scream. We sat at a
red light for 4 whole mins.
Seen 11:31 pm
Oh. My. God. 4 whole mins?!1!
How can they do that to you!
Don't they know who you are!!!
Seen 11:33 pm
The hottest guy alive thats who.
Seen 11:34
I couldn't help but laugh at his statement. Typing back a quick 'pls lol' before turning off my phone. It was getting too late I needed to start. I wish he was here, sometimes I could get a glance of the yellow and red highlight speeding by back home, on this road, about this time. He never worked late at night. That was more left up for the other heros, ones like me. I look to the streets, the dim lights from the lamps only shone back with a faint glow. No streak of color to be seen, but a part of me hoped it would still apear.
My night was full of stopping petty crimes, luckily I didn't have to go against any metahumans, but still like any other night everything would start to hurt after a certain threshold. Inbeetween threats I would find myself checking to see if Wally had kept our conversation going.
He did.
Until 4 am.
He was asking me mostly about myself, which was weird in a way. But in another, it made sense. The questions were more deep then anything since he already had asked the basic getting to know each other questions months ago. In the end, though, he stopped the conversation telling me to head to sleep, as I had school in the morning. Which was true. Even after patrol, I was still texting him from the comfort of my home, but I would eventually listen, heading to get some rest.
The week would continue the same as the night before. I was sending Wally the work and him dragging on our conversation throughout the night, but never long enough for the sun to rise the next day. On Saturday was when one of his messages caught me by surprise.
FLEETFEET
Are you free to call?
Seen 1:12 am
Before I could even protest how that could be a bad idea or how that might reveal who I was, his contact was flashing onto my screen along with his picture. I place the phone to my ear and answer it. I hoped the interstate couldn't be audible up from here.
"I told you shes not going to- hey! Hey..."
Wally's voice picks up on the other line, he seems to be in some sort of living room, as the hum of a television can be heard in the background as well as someone else having a conversation.
"Hey Walls? What's up?" My voice sounded strained from not speaking for hours, I hoped Wally couldn't tell. "Oh, um, I was just wondering about some of the work you sent me. Like you took the photos of the work perfectly okay, but in the background, I saw something." At the word something, his voice would slightly jump.
Did I leave my equipment in a photo? was my reflection shown? Was it something he wasn't supposed to see?
"Yeah It's-It's going to sound really stupid. What... what were those papers spread out on your bed?" Oh. Ohhhhh no. The notes, I left out his notes on my bed. I must have got some of them into the frame. I quickly opened out a chat to the last photo. There they were. Luckily, they were not in focus, so he couldn't really tell what they said, but still. There they were.
His voice would start up again after my second of silence. "Are they really swamping you with that much work?" "Yeah, yeah. My other class, a big final its uh its is coming up, so I was studying the notes." I let out a sigh of relief. "But that's not your handwriting? It actually kind of looks like-"
"Wally, I have to go. I'll see you Monday at school."
*BEEP BEEP BEEP*
That was terrible. He would never let me live that down if I told him I was keeping such things. That even more was embarrassing, I have to explain why I had to go. And I have until Monday for these excuses. Which is technically tomorrow. Fun.
...
I was saved. I got called into a mission before school at Mt. Justice. Even though Wally would be there, y/n technically wouldn't. When I arrived, he was already in costume talking to Megan about something. He still did the thing with his hands while he spoke. Making his statements larger than life and thoroughly exaggerated. "I just don't know what to do. I trust her more than anything, I wish she would just tell me. It's not like im going to judge her. She knows that. I mean, you heard the conversation. "
His back was turned to me, so I couldn't see his face while he went on. Although I knew what he was talking about. "Hey Megan. Hey Wally." I waved at the two while I walked past them to the kitchen. "H/n! You're a girl. I need advice. What do I do when my friend is keeping stuff from me." I would stop and slowly turn around to his pleading gaze. "Walls, aren't you keeping stuff from her? You have to trust her in that sort of regard. Give her time to open up."
"Thats...Fair." Wally would drop himself back to normal as my words got through to him. "Besides, it took me a while to realize I trusted you." Both in and out of costume. I do. I trust him more than anything. More than anyone.
So I should have told him. He said he wasn't going to judge me, and I know he wouldn't have. I let my emotions get the better of me at the moment, If he asks again, I'll tell him the truth. No matter what.
...
The mission went by with a breeze, the biggest threat being now as Robin sent Wally falling towards me at full speed. I ended up catching the both of us before he could send us tumbling over a building. I held us there for a while, my arms wrapped around him in a hug. He just looked at me. His heightened breathing trailed my neck as he grasped onto my arms. He didn't admit it, but he was scared, I was too. Fifteen stories were a lot to fall from.
The other heroes, as well as criminals, paid us no attention, too occupied in their own fights, as I held Wally at the edge of the roof. One of my feet hanging halfway off. I was closer to falling than he was. My back was to the city.
"Hey, h/n." Was all he said as his face began to knowticablely regain too much color. "Hey West." Wally would move his head to rest in the crook of my neck as he tried to calm his rapid breathing. He told me late at night over text one time he was scared of heights.
As I started to try to move us back away from the edge, Wally would only plant himself in my hold even more. I needed to help him snap back into the situation. Before he messed up and tipped us over.
"Wally. You've never asked me who I am before." Trust. He needs to trust me. "Be...Bec..Cause! You're not comfortable... ye-yet." Inbeetween words, he would let out large audible gasping. "You won't judge me, right?" He shook his head side to side, keeping his eyes remained shut. I would let out a sigh of my own.
"I trust you. Kid Flash, I need you to trust me. Not only as h/n but as y/n. y/n l/n. The one who's going to get you off this roof. Back to the ground floor."

young justice characters: when you pin them down during training
let’s say you’re just really skilled when it come to fighting so you know a lot of techniques! you also utilize a pair of scythes :D
with: implied female reader x dick, wally, conner, and jaime
genre: fluffy, cute, and funny <3
a/n: i’m on season 2 of young justice and i am so. in love with dick grayson istg.
nightwing (dick)
your nerves start getting to you once you step up onto the platform with dick in front of the rest of the team
wonder and martian girl are giggling at you, knowing very well abt your fat crush on dick who is giving you a little smile
you realize he’s looking at you, and you immediately look away to see if conner is going to ever start
“you two ready?” conner asks, looking between the two of you with his arms crossed
“of course,” dick says, smiling again once you look back at him.
“mhm,” you respond, getting ready while nodding
“go!”
you charge, knowing dick’s antics too well
he goes to punch you but you stop him, grabbing his arm while turning so that you flip him and he’s on the ground on his back
you throw your leg over him as he tries to get up and you quickly drop to your knees, knocking him back onto the ground with a grunt
you make sure your legs are tight around his waist so he’s trapped
you place a scythe from your belt against his neck, letting out a ragged breath
“get his ass y/n!” artemis calls out, making everybody burst into laughter
dick rubs the back of his head and you pull your scythe away while looking down at him
he groans a little and you;re suddenly really worried
“you okay dick?” you ask, leaning down to get a closer look. “i didn’t give you a concussion or anything right?”
your face is right in front of his, making his face flush
“i-i’m fine,” dick hesitates, looking into your eyes
you smile a bit, finding yourself staring at him
you realize you’re staring for a bit too long and you feel your face flush as you realize that you’re still straddling dick’s waist
“get a room!” wally calls out, making you and dick snap out of it
you both whip your heads at him and he laughs
you roll your eyes and start to get up, but dick’s hand moving to your waist makes you jolt a bit and makes your heart pick up speed
“i think i’m actually feeling a bit of a headache y/n,” dick starts, giving you a sly smile. “i might need some medicine <3″
you find yourself smiling like an idiot, leaning down with a hand on his chest while rolling your eyes
“ok boy wonder come here~”
everybody else: in front of my salad...
kid flash (wally)
by the time you step onto the platform, wally is spewing a pickup line that you raise your eyebrow at
“come on baby at least laugh a little </3″ wally whines, pouting a little
“i’ll laugh when i beat you today,” you tell the ginger boy, smiling a little
“oh yeah? well if i win you have to go on a date with me :)”
beast boy from the side: you said that every other time you’ve lost clown
“deal,” you say, getting in your stance
“no scythes, ok princess?”
“no promises wally :)”
dick watches the two of you and smiles
“are you guys ready?”
the two of you nod and dick puts his hand up, letting it drop while calling out, “go”
wally immediately charges, going for your legs
you jump, kicking at his chest and landing on your feet while watching him stumble back and clutch his chest
“c’mon baby, go easy o-”
you swipe your leg under him, making him fall over and you quickly crawl over to straddle his waist on the ground while pinning his arms above him
“i could stay here all day,” wally says, smiling lazily at you
“of course you could,” you say, laughing a bit
wally grins, raising an eyebrow at you
he was about to ask you the question he always popped whenever you would take him down
“yes,” you say as he sucks in a breath to speak
“...i was about to ask you if you would still consider going on a date with me and you always say no-?”
“well i’m telling you yes myself kid flash so clean up your room and i’ll come watch a movie with you in your room tonight”
you lean down and kiss his cheek, quickly getting up to clear room for super boy and blue beetle to spar next
wally lays there, shocked as you walk over to m’gann who makes a remark about how bold you were today
as you’re about to walk away, wally comes up to you and you smile
“hey wally! what’s up?”
“we’re going on a date right? we’re watching a movie in my room tonight?”
“yes we are :D”
“okay... just making sure-”
you smile, hugging him tightly as he hugs you back
super boy (conner)
you were nervous
beyond nervous because you were about to go up against conner
you felt terrible about his break up with m’gann, especially since he had been so heart broken over it and she had moved on to lagoon boy
he seemed like he did a=okay, always his usual self but you knew he had trouble dealing with it since he trusted m’gann a lot
despite this, you and m’gann were really good friends and she knew very well that you really liked conner
she didn’t even mind that you liked him, telling you to make a move
this whole time, though, you have been hesitant because it’s only been a few weeks since they had broken up
now you’re about to go up against him for training
it’s the first time since you’ve joined the team that you’ve ever gone against conner
you and conner get into your stances and he looks at you, the two of you waiting for dick to call out
when he does, you and conner move around a bit, waiting for someone to attack first
you charge first, immediately going in to tackle him
conner dodges, grabbing your arms to push you off
the two of you make eye contact and he suddenly softens his grip, making you stumble back a bit
you go to punch him but he grabs your fist, stopping your action
you knee his side, making him grunt a bit and stumble back to which you kick him in the chest to knock him down
you quickly run over, trying to put a foot on his chest to restrict him from getting up but he’s able to kick at your ankles, making you topple onto him
you use your arms to push yourself up and when you try to get a glance at him, you realize your face is really close to conner’s
the two of you look at each other and you smile a bit
“hey y/n,” he suddenly says, making you smile even more and your face get even hotter
“hi conner,” you giggle, leaning a little farther away from his face
he smiles and the two of you simply sit there, staring at each other to the point where you guys could barely hear the team calling for you
you get up, conner following suite
he takes your hand as you walk away, and you turn to look at him
“y/n can i talk to you?”
“oh, sure-!”
artemis and batgirl think about asking you what he said but when you hug him and then bury your face in his neck, they figure out what he probably asked
blue beetle (jaime)
to say you were nervous was an overstatement
you honestly felt fine sparring with jaime since you and him were already good friends
you ignore bat girl and wonder girl’s snickers and grins at you as you get ready to battle your friend
jaime smiles at you when the two of you step onto the platform and he speaks
“so y/n..... what are the chances of me winning today?”
you smile, tilt your head, and put a hand on your hip while holding up the other hand to pinch your forefinger and thumb together
“very slim to none :)”
impulse literally fucking CACKLES SO LOUD and jaime is glaring at him so bad but you find yourself laughing too
jaime immediately switches, smiling at you
impulse shouts “go!” and you immediately charge at him and he charges as well
you pretend that you’re aiming to tackle his legs but he knows your antics
you never really go for his legs
well, until now
you slide past him on the ground and quickly turn to kick the back of his knee, making him topple back
during this though, he’s able to turn as you try to pull him down and the next thing you know, he’s on top of you
he hesitates, realizing the situation but you continue, using your strength to roll the two of you over so that you’re on top of him
you take his arms, making sure they’re pinned to his side and you use the strength in your legs to trap them so he can’t move them from the side of his body
you smile at your victory, realizing he’s just staring at you
“blue?” you say, waving a hand in front of his face
he doesn’t respond, only freeing his arms and immediately sitting up
he lets an arm wrap around your waist and your eyes widen in surprise at his action while he leans forward more, your face inches from his
your heart stutters but you blink and open your mouth to speak
“you okay? did you hit your he-”
“can i kiss you?”
you’re taken aback by his words but you find yourself nodding, wrapping your arms around his neck and smiling
“go right ahead”
impulse and beast boy rn: :| gross ass mfs
sorry if you don’t see someone you rlly like ;; these are the characters i feel more comfortable writing abt !! :D

They Were Just There
Fandom: DC Characters: Batfam Requested by: @xxglitch07xx
“The cancer came back.”
It was a normal day in Gotham. Hollies, you're friend, and you were having lunch at the one cafe downtown that wasn’t closed. After the failed plan Mr. Freeze's when they dropped that bomb on you. Everything stopped as you stared at them. Waiting for them to laugh. But they didn’t. It wasn’t a joke. The threat that they thought was defeated was back. “Ok. What do you need?”
Hollis didn’t have family only friends. A privilege of living in Gotham. So at every appointment, every treatment, every step. There was someone in the group with them. Someone holding their hand. Someone to talk with before treatment. The group chat mostly consisted of updates from the latest appointment; to planning who could go with them. You did what you could. Paid for every treatment on Bruce’s dime. Not that he minded. Hell, even the hospital they were in was protected from villains. You had become friendly with the nurses who took breaks on the roof. But cancer was the one villain you couldn’t beat and throw in Arkham. And all too soon Hollis was gone.
The funeral was small. Ash scattered in Gotham bay just as requested. Dick was by your side the whole time; gently squeezing your hand to keep you grounded. The reception was held in the manor. Alfred tried his best to lift the spirits of those gathered with food. Something you would have to thank him for after. The gathering didn’t last long at the end of the day everyone has lives.
Now alone, you watched the last of your friends drive off. A quiet sigh leaves you before you turn to the stairs. Heading to your room you ignore Damian and Tim you just need some time alone. That’s all you wanted right now. Closing the door the tear slowly came. Throughout everything, you never cried. You couldn’t cry in front of others. You just couldn't. Changing into more comfortable clothes you flopped on the bed. More tears came from everything that had built up. The salt burning your eyes as you cried and screamed into a pillow. It was unfair. If there was a God why would he let the Joker live but take Hollis? You screamed and cried until there was nothing more to give. For some time you just laid there staring at the wall.
Finally, you moved. It was night now and as you started downstairs you expected everyone to be dressed for patrol. You have a city to protect. Personal matters are to be put on the back burner. Yet you are greeted by everyone in the main hall the boys playing rock, paper, scissors. Cass glances up the starts towards. Quickly she turns and hits Bruce’s arm pointing at you. The patriarch looks toward you a gentle smile appering on his when he sees you. “What’s going on?” Your question looking at the boys who quickly look at you. “Will this was pointless. If Drake would have-” “Oh don’t you start with me!” And off to the races they went. Dick was now stuck trying to stop his younger brothers from fighting. “We’re have a movie night. You in?” Jason asks as you get to the bottom step. “It was Dick’s idea.” The gunslinger thumbs over to the elder brother. “Ook but why? Who is going to patrol?" You look from Jason to Bruce. “No one. You-” Cass hits his the older man's arm. “We need a break.” He quickly corrects himself. Now you see it. They want to help and you have learned to let them. Grabbing Jason’s arm you rush towards the movie theater. “We gotta get the best seats.” You shout towards him; the outlaw grinning at you. This is why you are his favorite out of the bunch. A collected group of heys and hold on are yelled behind you but with the headstart, you and Jason will be watching the movie in comfort.
Cass slides into the theater right after you and Jason. She quickly claims the spot beside you. As your other family members pour into the room the arguments start. Arguments about the seating arrangement, snacks, and which movie to watch, the youngest Wayne found fault with nearly everything. Which only annoyed Tim more. Once everything was settled Alfred started the movie to which Bruce order the butler to start and rest with them. It was nice. Peaceful. Just begin with family as you mourn. Jason pulled you close and Cass laid her head on your lap. They didn’t tell you it would get better. You didn’t want to hear that. They were just with you are you mourn and right now that’s all you needed.

song 69! loser of the year (simple plan) + dick grayson requested by @celamoon (2023 spotify wrapped event) (this works so perfectly holy shit?? also hi cressie ilysm i’m such a big fan)
you make me wanna shut it all down, throw it all away, ‘cause i’m nothing if i don’t have you

Dick Grayson has no shortage of blessings.
He wakes up every day with a full head of silky hair, skin glowing and a bank account fuller than that house on Full House. He has a great job (that he doesn’t even need. Thanks, Bruce) and great friends, old ladies love him and even his smile has been known to make a few people faint.
He’s a celebrity. His life is great. He’s on top of the world.
So why is he still staring at his phone, waiting for the screen to light up?
Because of you. You, his good friend of three years and silly little crush of one.
Yesterday, his life was perfect. He’d met up with you in the city because you’d promised to help him get his new tux for the next gala. He’d made a few jokes and got to see your smile, and got to meet a few fans on the street. Then, when the two of you were sat in a coffee shop, he looked over at you and his heart stopped.
The sunlight was caught perfectly on your face, lighting up your eyes and bouncing off your hair and god, he was so down bad.
Well, no time like the present, he’d thought.
The conversation lasted about one excruciating minute, before you were throwing a few bills on the table, giving him an apologetic look and walking out the door.
“I’m in love with you,” he’d said.
“I need to think about it,” you’d replied.
His world has slowly been crumbling ever since.
Yeah, his hair and skin are still perfect, his bank account is still loaded and everything else in his life is totally fine, but none of it seems as useful anymore.
His phone buzzes and Dick lunges for it.
Jason: hey
Jason: when r u coming for the gala
Jason: damian’s extra homidical today
He frowns down at the screen. That doesn’t seem good. He shoots back a quick idk and promptly mutes the conversation so he isn’t baited again.
He’s alone with his thoughts for long enough to start thinking about his next move. Dick is starting to think you’ll never give him an answer, and you’re just ghosting him now to avoid rejecting him. Therefore, the obvious solution would be to move far, far away from Gotham. Nightwing will just have to relocate. The Bats will be fine without him.
Maybe Hawaii? No, still too close. Somewhere in Europe, maybe? Or is that too high profile a place for a celebrity? Australia seems nice. The sun would be good for his tan. He could live in a little house by the beach. Learn to surf. A simple life.
Without you, he doesn’t think he has much need for any luxuries. He’d give it all up for you if you wanted, he’d give it all up if he didn’t get you anyway. He’s nothing without you. Money or not, he’s a total loser.
There’s an incessant knocking on his door and he groans.
“Oh, come on, Jason! Did you really need to come to my apartment to drag me out?”
He makes his way to the door and throws it open, preparing to see the face of his annoying younger brother. His scowl drops instantly.
You’re standing there, all dressed up, a bouquet in your hands.
“Hi,” you say, smiling shyly, “I was wondering if you might need a date to the gala.”
Dick grins, grabs you by the waist, and pulls you in for a kiss.
He guesses he won this time.

academic rivals d.g.
Pairing: Dick Grayson as Robin x Reader
Warnings: Some injuries.
Word Count: 4.3K
A/N: Full discretion this idea was given to me by an anon and even though I said I wasn't taking requests I just couldn't resist.
Also @writing2sirvive I hope you find this offer acceptable after not writing for our baby for so long 😭😭
There was always a slight pinch of anxiety when your teacher went around the class, handing back your test papers after grading them and you waited with slightly bated breath, a fist clutching the fabric of your uniform.
Even though you knew you had done well on the exam, you were particularly unnerved by her declaration before distributing the stack of papers that only one person had managed to get a perfect score.
You kept your eyes trained on your desk, waiting for someone behind you to exclaim that they had gotten a 100% but it never came. Not until your teacher had placed your paper in front of you with a soft 'Good job'.
You beamed, barely able to contain your excitement as you waited for the bell to ring.
Of course, you were over the moon that you got a 100. And that you were the only person in the entire class that managed to get one.
But secretly, you were more elated by the fact that someone else didn't.
"Aw, what's wrong Grayson? Your daddy finally run out of money to bribe your teachers with?" You snarked as soon as you caught a glance of the 93 written in red at the top of his paper.
"Sub-par insult, (L/N)." He said flatly.
"I disagree, nothing about me is sub-par, as you can clearly see." A sly grin on your face as you waved your paper with '100' in his face. He rolled his eyes so far back you couldn't resist making a comment, "Roll your eyes as hard as you want, Grayson, you won't be able to find a brain back there."
His friend, Barbara, who was sitting beside him chuckled at this and he turned to her with an irritated glare, "Can I help you?"
She gave him a teasing smile, unnerved by his annoyance toward her, "Oh, nothing, I'm just eagerly waiting for the day you both stop pretending you hate each other and start dating."
It seemed like her comment had just the effect she had wanted when Dick choked on his spit in his haste to argue that even if you were the last person on Earth, he wouldn't go near you with a 10-foot-pole.
"I'm not too happy to agree with you, Grayson but I, very fortunately, have a boyfriend."
His face twisted, "Gross, who'd wanna date you?"
You gave him a fake smile, "Hopefully, not you."
***
"Recognized: Domino, B-08."
You squealed in joy the second the light faded from your eyes, gaze landing on your boyfriend who stood right outside the zeta tube with a giant smile on his face.
You threw your arms around Robin's neck with a giggle, peppering his lips with smiley kisses that he so enthusiastically returned, his arms snug around your waist.
"Do you guys have to do this every time?" Came Conner's unimpressed voice as he shuffled uncomfortably around the two of you making out, "Can you at least stop doing it in the middle of the entrance? People are trying to get places."
You pulled away with a soft blush, smiling at the sight of your sparkly lip gloss on Robin's mouth and his slightly dazed expression. There was nothing like your kisses that was able to knock the vigilante's world off its axis and it had been this way ever since you started dating 10 months ago.
The pair of you were still very much in the honeymoon phase, much to the chagrin of your teammates, who have walked in on you many times while your lips were practically glued to each other.
"How was your day?" Robin finally asked when you had each gotten your fair share of kisses, leading you to the kitchen for a snack before the mission briefing and you beamed, "Amazing! I got a perfect score on that test from last week!"
He raised a brow, "The one that you skipped a date to study for?"
Smiling, you nodded, "The very one."
He sighed, taking a box out of the fridge, "See? I told you that you'd do great! You probably didn't even need to skip our date."
You rolled your eyes, giggling at his pout that you were all too quick to kiss away, "Hey now, I made it up to you, didn't I?"
Nodding, he pushed the box further toward you with a smile, "You did. Which is why I got you this, but I guess it could be for a job well done too."
You gasped when you saw the squiggles of the familiar logo of your favourite bakery on the top of the box and eagerly opened it up, completely missing the fact that it had been sealed with tape and nearly ripping the carboard to shreds in order to get to the treats inside.
The smell of the strawberry shortcake and red velvet cupcake had you salivating, and you wasted to time before digging in.
"Ugh, I love you." You moaned, nearly dissolving into the symphony of flavours and Robin chuckled swiping some of the cream cheese frosting off your cheek before licking it off his thumb, "Are you talking to me or the cupcake?"
You paused, glancing up at him from the cupcake wrapper, "I can love more than one thing."
His affectionate gaze had you melting, forgetting the delicious treat for a second, "Thank you for the gift, I really love it."
Robin happily accepted the sugary kiss you had given him, "Well, I figured, since it had been a while since we had a date in Gotham, you'd be craving it."
You only took another bite of the cupcake to hide your guilty wince. While the list of details you didn't know about your boyfriend was limitless, starting with his name and ending with literally anything else, you felt guilty that he somehow knew even less about you.
At least you knew what city he lived in while he was under the impression that you lived in Star City with Dinah, your mentor. You really thought he wouldn't buy it, especially after he didn't believe Artemis the first time.
But nearly a year after joining the team it would seem that he was still blissfully unaware, and you were planning to reveal your identity to him soon enough. You were firm that you wouldn't be celebrating your one-year anniversary without knowing each other's names at least.
At least once he found out you were living in the same city, you'd be able to have more frequent dates.
"Team to mission room." You heard over the PA, and you grabbed the box with you to the meet Batman and Canary along with the team, unwilling to leave your precious strawberry shortcake at the hands of Wally. This way you'd be able to dislocate his shoulder the second he put his hands on your things.
When you entered the room to find a face that you recognized on the holoscreen, you paused and glanced at Artemis who shrugged in response.
"Leo 'The Lion' Stark, the leader of the cult that was kidnapping young girls was officially incarcerated this morning."
Cheers erupted around the room, and you passed the box in your hands to your boyfriend to high-five Artemis and bring her into a hug. Black Canary patted the both of you on the shoulder, "Job well done on this mission, you two."
The mission that led to his arrest had been an undercover op with both you and Artemis posing as the girls from the private school that was being targeted. Eventually, you were able to find the leader and put a stop to his entire organization.
You had never seen Robin more fearful for your life than during this mission and it was after it that you had said your first I love you's.
"Today's mission is a covert op. For stealth, I will only be sending two members of the team: Robin and Domino."
Robin sent you a smile and you squeezed your interlocked fingers underneath the table.
"If they can stop kissing long enough to actually get the mission done." Conner grumbled underneath his breath and was rewarded with a swift kick to the knee.
***
It happened too quickly.
Everything was going fine. The mission was well underway, and you had observed them long enough to know where they were keeping their illegal servers. All that was left was to input your program that would upload all their data wirelessly so it could be accessed by the league.
Then it all went wrong, all at once.
You don't even remember much of what happened. All you knew is that when you had least expected it, someone had snuck up on you and you had felt your stomach squeeze with a painful terror that you hadn't experienced in a long time upon being caught off-guard.
"The Lion sends his greetings."
What followed was a series of excruciating shocks up your body that had your heartbeat ceasing in your chest and the movement of every single muscle came to a standstill such that you couldn't even make a sound come out of your throat.
You didn't even have the time to think about anything before you lost consciousness, the last thought flashing through your head being your worry for Robin.
And then every single pulse in your head came to an abrupt end.
“Come on hero, come on!” Robin panted as he continued to pump his hands against your chest, counting down the beats in his head to the compressions, “Baby please, please wake up!”
He was in tears, even though he tried to control them, but he had been looking at your unconscious face for the last 30 minutes as he continuously tried to revive you. His stomach was in knots and his chest felt like it was on fire, but he still didn’t quit, he wouldn’t until he passed out himself.
Before he could even stop himself, he was sobbing and the wails he let out erased the count he was keeping in his head, “Someone please help! Please help.”
His communicator lay discarded only a couple of feet beside him, but he couldn’t take his hands off you for a second, he couldn’t mess up the beat, he couldn’t stop the chest compressions because you’d die; and he’d die right alongside you.
“Robin, come in. Robin, can you hear me?”
His chest collapsed in a fit of sobs as soon as he heard the sound of his mentor come through from the communicator. The device beeped with the sound that alerted him of an override indicating that his mentor could now listen in.
“Batman help! She’s not breathing! I don't think she has a pulse! I’m trying to do CPR but she’s not awaking up! Please help!”
“Hang in there, Robin. Someone will be there in five.”
***
"She's alive but her brain was deprived of oxygen for a while so we can't accurately put a time frame on when she could wake up." Batman explained, his voice as stiff as concrete like always but the hand he placed on his ward's shoulder was warm and comforting.
There were so many questions rushing through Robin's head, but he kept silent because a part of him already knew the answer. This wasn't the first time he had seen something like this, while being Robin he had seen countless families, parents, spouses, receive the same news.
The distraught questions would usually follow: would take months? years? is there a chance that she could never wake up? is there anything he could do?
He wanted to ask Batman anyway, he wanted Batman to lie and say that everything would be okay, that the girl he loved would wake up soon and he just had to wait but he knew better than anyone that was all it would be. Lies.
There were those that were fortunate enough for their loved one to eventually wake up. Others would be forced to watch life go by while their loved ones were imprisoned to a bed with the empty hope that one day they'd wake up.
So, he swallowed down all his questions, Adam's apple bobbing painfully in his throat, "Can I see her?"
His father nodded, leading him to the med-bay with one hand on his back. Robin felt his stomach sink with every step he took, staring sullenly at his sock-clad feet. In his rush to change after the mission so he could get to you as soon as possible, he had thrown on anything he could find.
Which resulted in him being dressed in your sweatpants and his hoodie that you had stolen so often it smelt like you; a combination that both comforted him and broke his heart all at once.
When he saw you from the door, a rush of epiphanies struck through him like lightning to a metal rod. Although, first and foremost, he was just relieved to see you. Even though it hurt him to see you unconscious, and he knew that there was a chance he'd never get to see you awake again, a part of him forgot all about that as soon as he saw you.
He took quick steps toward you, wanting nothing more than to feel your skin against his when he stopped in his tracks once again with wide eyes, realizing you were without your mask.
"Robin?"
"I-I know her. (Y/N) (L/N), s-she's in my class." He stammered, staring at your relaxed features with his mouth hanging open. As odd as it sounded, this was the first time he had ever seen you, as (Y/N), so relaxed.
Whether it was a scowl or even just a grimace, you always seemed to be frowning at him and he never bothered to pay any attention to you outside of classes, when you were talking with your friends. He was sure you'd have a mesmerizing grin, one that would reach your beautiful eyes.
Batman stayed silent behind him, and Dick wondered just how many times Bruce had heard him talking shit about the love of his life, having to keep silent to respect your privacy. His cheeks coloured, remembering the conversation from this morning, where he had claimed that he would never touch you even with a 10-foot pole.
If only he had known that he had been pressed against the same girl so many nights prior.
"Does it matter?" Batman asked, snapping him out of his mortified state where he remembered every single insult he had ever directed at you, either to your face or behind your back.
To anyone else, it would have sounded like a shallow question, but Dick knew his father was concerned about whether his feelings would have changed, whether your identity did matter to him more than your relationship or his love for you.
He swallowed, walking up to your bedside, and gently brushing a strand of hair away from your face and for the first time in his life, he took in all your features. It was startling how quickly his worst enemy became the most beautiful person in the world.
"No, it doesn't."
***
You could see the bright light even though your eyes were shut. There was nothing more you wanted than to slip back into your deep slumber but for some reason your consciousness began trickling back into your head in a gentle stream.
You squirmed, brows pinching together in a frown as you murmured something unintelligible, features twitching until finally your eyes began to flutter open.
"(Y/N)?" You heard and your hand was squeezed by someone you couldn't quite place. Your vision was still quite blurry, and you were extremely disoriented. Still, you tried to blink through the hazy shapes in your sight and you managed to recognize a familiar head of black hair.
"Baby?" You breathed out, sighing in relief when he pressed a kiss to your knuckles, "Thank goodness you're okay."
Right before you had lost consciousness, a thought had flashed into your head. Robin would never abandon you there, no matter what had happened to you, if you had died or just lost consciousness.
You worried that in his effort to stick by you, he'd be hurt or worse.
"Me? (Y/N), you were unconscious for two days! Do you have any idea how worried I've been?!"
If you had been any more conscious, you probably would've been concerned over the way his voice broke in grief and his heartbroken words but in your exhaustion, all you could do was give him a silly smile, wishing your eyes could focus long enough for you to see his beautiful face.
"I'm okay now, I'm okay."
"I didn't think you would be." He confessed, pressing another kiss to your fingertips, holding your hand gingerly but still in a firm grip in between both of his. Like he was scared you'd evaporate and disappear before his eyes.
"I'm okay, baby. Just a little sleepy." You told him, feeling your consciousness slip further and further away as your blinks began to get longer and longer and your strength began to disappear, "You'll be here when I wake up, right?"
He nodded, voice thick with unshed tears even though you couldn't see him, "Yeah. I'll be right here."
***
This time when you woke, you felt much more refreshed than you had before. Your head didn't feel like it was nailed to the pillow anymore, but it felt like you had lead in your veins which was expected considering you had been unconscious for days.
Despite his promise, Robin was nowhere to be found when you finally sat up, stretching your arms as much as you could, careful of the IV in your hand. Your eyes darted around the familiar med-bay, trying to catch a glance of the clock by craning your neck but was ultimately unsuccessful.
Was it a weekday? Was it school hours? Was that why Robin wasn't at your side like you had asked him? What about you? What excuse had Batman given the school to explain your sudden absence? Were your parents aware that you had been injured?
The endless barrage of questions was silenced to a mum when you heard the door slide open and you sighed in relief, noticing the head of black hair first, "I believe you promised to be here when I wo—!"
Dick Grayson was beaming at you and in certain angles of the light, his blue eyes almost looked glossy with tears, but you shook your head unconsciously. Why would he be crying at the sight of you?
'Because you're so ugly the sight is making my eyes water.' Would have been his classic response and you practically rolled your eyes at the thought.
"(Y/N), you're awake!" He took a step closer, and you flinched.
"Stop right there!" He quite literally froze in his steps, he might as well have been encased in ice at the receiving end of your cold glare, "What the hell are you doing here, Grayson?"
He paused and somehow you were annoyed by the dumbfounded look on his face while multiple scenarios ran through your head. A concussion, brain injury or something along that likeness. Perhaps the part of your brain responsible for recognizing faces was damaged and this wasn't actually Dick Grayson. Amnesia, possibly? Maybe you were actually good friends with him but managed to forget it all? Of course, there was always the possibility this was a dream.
Your brow twitched at his lack of response, "I asked you a question."
At your terse tone, it seemed like he was finally able to snap himself out of his stupor, "(Y/N), baby, it's me."
You scowled, "Don't call me that and speak clearly; the hell do you mean by 'me'?"
"Baby," He said again, so firmly that you were silenced in your effort to snap at him again, "It's me."
Dick watched as your face melted from an expression of disgruntled bewilderment to the smallest sliver of recognition. Your eyes raked over his body, only now noticing that he was in short sleeves, and you were able to see the familiar scar on his forearm that belonged to your boyfriend. The little patch of freckles near his elbow that you had traced with your finger so many times before.
Your voice was small when you called him again, "Rob?"
He nodded and your eyes went wide, not quite able to believe it. Your boyfriend stood stiffly, berating himself for not handling this better. He had very quickly gotten over the fact that his girlfriend was his greatest rival in high school while he watched your unconscious face for the past couple of days, waiting for you to wake up.
It had completely slipped his mind that you were still unaware of his identity, and he swallowed nervously. Sure, it was something he could easily put past him but were you the same?
Robin knew you inside and out, he knew how much you loved him, but he didn't know how just much you hated Dick Grayson. Was that hate enough to overpower your love for him?
You stared at him in surprise for only a minute, but it felt like hours to him before you closed your eyes and leaned your head back, "Wow."
"This-This doesn't change anything right?" He began, feeling the lump in his throat grow three sizes larger when you turned to him with an expression that was not a reassuring smile like he had wanted.
"Are you kidding? This changes everything! Barbara is never going to let us hear the end of this. And my friends? Oh, they've hated you ever since that incident during our group presentations." You exclaimed, fingers twitching, and Dick knew it was because you wanted to flail your arms around but couldn't because of the IV.
He bit his lip. You weren't outright rejecting him or anything, but he needed to hear you say it and he needed to hear it as soon as possible.
"No—(Y/N), does this change anything between us?"
You paused, stopping in the middle of your tangent to give him a confused glance, "Between us? No. Why would it?"
And just like that, the tension in his muscles evaporated away and he relaxed, approaching to your side like he wanted to and interlacing your fingers, "I love you."
You finally smiled at him, leaning to kiss his lips, "I love you more, even though you said I was gross and that no one would ever want to date me."
"Well, to be fair you said you'd hope I never did, so I guess we're even."
***
"Hey, stranger." It really didn't make sense that after almost a year of dating, your boyfriend's voice still managed to send shivers down your spine. You closed your locker shut before turning to meet the beautiful blue eyes that you grew to love.
It was scary how quickly you completely rewired your brain into loving every single feature belonging to Dick Grayson.
"Hi, Grayson."
His eyes dipped to your lips for a second, mentally scolding himself for turning to putty the second you said his last name. It was weird how the last time you both were in school together, he thought that the sound of his name coming from your mouth was like nails on a chalkboard.
Now, he felt like he had been blessed just by being in your presence.
"I have all the assignments and notes that you missed the past week." You had been ordered bed rest and some physiotherapy to regain complete mobility after being unconscious for a couple of days. Under your boyfriend's watchful care, he had dutifully nursed you back to health.
You smiled when he handed you the stack of papers even though the heft of it made you want to cry. All this work from just a week? All the AP classes you had been taking in order to compete with your own boyfriend had come back to bite you in the ass.
"Thank you. Can I come over later so you can help me out with it?"
It was really a formality that you were asking because you both knew he was obviously going to say yes. But you figured you'd do the polite thing and ask the first time. After today though his room would practically be yours, just as your room would now be his personal hideout.
"Of course, baby. I've been dying to introduce you to Alfred. We can go back to mine together after school."
You nodded, starting when you heard the bell, "I have Physics." You bemoaned, it being the only class Dick didn't take with you. He had opted for a language instead, which you were beginning to think was more useful than whatever you learnt anyway.
He gave you a smile, eyes twinkling when he slanted his lips over yours in a soft kiss and you had to pull away quickly before you forgot just where you were.
His disappointed pout was all too quick to disappear when you reminded him that you'd be going home with him that day, "I'll see you later."
The two of you parted ways with delirious smiles, feeling too much like you were wafting on cloud nine, completely unbeknownst to the small crowd of people that watching your entire interaction with wide eyes.
Barbara, who was stood at the centre of the flock, smirked, and held out her hand, "Pay up bitches."
***
Bonus:
"I'm surprised you didn't figure out her identity earlier, Dick. Aren't you supposed to be a great detective?" Wally teased and your boyfriend rolled his eyes.
"It's not that I couldn't find out, I just didn't try."
"How come?"
He spared you a glance and shrugged, "She asked me not to."
"I don't remember you offering me the same consideration." Artemis sniped but he knew it was all in good nature.
"You aren't nearly as pretty." He replied coolly, making you blush.

Dick Grayson x Fem! Reader ︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶
The pumpkin patch was a vibrant tapestry of fall colors, a lively spectacle filled with families and friends enjoying the crisp autumn air. As you and Dick wandered among the towering rows of pumpkins, laughter and chatter surrounded you, weaving a tapestry of joy that was infectious. The sweet scent of hay mingled with the spicy aroma of cinnamon from nearby stalls selling warm apple cider and baked goods. It was one of those perfect October afternoons that felt like a scene from a movie, and every moment felt imbued with magic.
Dick was clad in his favorite leather jacket, the one that seemed to radiate his effortless charm. His dark hair tousled in the gentle breeze, he flashed you a playful grin as he strolled beside you. “Look at this one!” he exclaimed, dropping to his knees beside a pumpkin that was surprisingly large and oddly shaped, with deep grooves and a slightly crooked stem. “This one’s perfect for carving! Just imagine the scariest jack-o’-lantern in Gotham with this bad boy!”
You laughed, shaking your head as you picked up a smaller pumpkin, perfectly round and smooth. “As much as I love your enthusiasm, I’m not sure Gotham is ready for a pumpkin that terrifying,” you teased, turning the smaller pumpkin in your hands, contemplating its carving potential. “I think we should aim for something a little more charming. You know, something that reflects our style.”
Dick stood up, brushing off his knees, and approached you, his mischievous glint unmistakable. “We should do matching costumes this year. How cute would that be?” he suggested, leaning in closer, the excitement in his voice palpable.
You raised an eyebrow, holding the pumpkin to your chest, feeling your heart warm at his enthusiasm. “Alright, Mr. Grayson, what are we dressing up as this year for Halloween?” you asked, a smile dancing on your lips.
Dick’s grin widened as he dropped his hands on his hips, striking a goofy pose. “How about this: I’ll be a graham cracker, and you’ll be a marshmallow! Together, we can be a s’more!” His laughter echoed in the air, infectious as he picked up a pumpkin and held it up to his face like a mask, the playful absurdity of the idea sending you into a fit of giggles.
You couldn’t help but laugh at his antics, shaking your head in disbelief. “I love you, I swear I do, but there’s no way I’m dressing up as a marshmallow. I have my dignity to think about!” You teased, though your heart danced at the thought of being a couple in matching costumes.
“Oh, come on! Just think of the photo ops!” he insisted, doing a little twirl with the pumpkin as if it were a trophy. “Imagine it—two adorable treats, making everyone else jealous with our cuteness!”
Rolling your eyes but unable to suppress your smile, you responded, “Fine, fine! But we have to come up with something better than that. You’re the horror movie expert. What do you think?”
Dick glanced at the pumpkins around you, mock-serious as he crossed his arms. “How about you dress up as Sidney Prescott and I’ll be Ghostface? I can totally pull off the scary vibe!” he suggested, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
You laughed, nodding in agreement. “That’s actually a great idea! I could even carry around a fake knife to chase you with!” The thought of him running away from you, feigning terror, made you giggle even more.
He feigned a look of horror, eyes wide and hands up in mock surrender. “You wouldn’t actually stab me, right? I’m your boyfriend, not your victim!” he exclaimed, stepping back dramatically, making you laugh even harder.
“Just saying, it depends on how convincing you are in your role!” you replied, your playful banter making the atmosphere even more cheerful. The two of you continued to explore the patch, debating over which pumpkins would serve best for carving.
After a bit more wandering, you finally settled on a pumpkin, holding it up triumphantly. “What do you think? This one has the perfect balance of cute and spooky!” you announced, turning it slightly to show off its unique shape and texture, your excitement bubbling over.
Dick nodded appreciatively, his gaze softening as he looked at you, then at the pumpkin. “I think it’s perfect! But if we’re doing Ghostface and Sidney, we have to go all out. I can’t just wear a mask and call it a day.”
You grinned at his determination, leading the way to the checkout area with your chosen pumpkin in tow. “Agreed! We should definitely take the time to make our costumes look awesome. This is going to be the Halloween to remember!”
Once you paid for your pumpkin, Dick insisted on carrying it back to the car. “This baby is all mine! I’ll guard it with my life,” he joked, cradling the pumpkin like a precious trophy. As you made your way to the car, the sunlight bathed everything in a warm golden glow, and you couldn’t help but glance at him, feeling your heart swell.
Later that evening, you found yourselves in your cozy kitchen, the soft glow of fairy lights illuminating the space and creating an inviting ambiance. You spread newspapers across the table, lighting pumpkin spice candles that filled the air with a comforting scent, crafting an atmosphere perfect for a cozy night in. Dick set the pumpkin down with exaggerated care before turning to you with a playful gleam in his eye.
“Alright, I’ll get the carving tools!” he declared, bounding to the kitchen drawer. You watched him rummage through the utensils, his enthusiasm contagious. As he turned back with a small carving knife and a spoon, he struck a dramatic pose. “Prepare to be amazed by my pumpkin artistry!”
You leaned against the counter, watching him work, the way his brow furrowed in concentration making your heart flutter. “Just don’t mess it up too badly. We need to impress the other partygoers,” you said, a teasing lilt to your voice.
“Mess it up? Please!” he scoffed, pretending to be offended. “I’m the king of pumpkin carving! This pumpkin is going to be the talk of the party.”
You smiled, moving to your own pumpkin as he continued to sketch his design, a mix of horror and humor. The rhythmic sound of carving filled the kitchen, punctuated by laughter and playful jabs at each other's artistic choices. You shared stories about past Halloweens, recalling funny moments and childhood costumes, the atmosphere light and filled with joy.
“I remember one year, I tried to be a vampire but ended up looking like I had a bad case of toothpaste on my face,” you said, laughing as you recalled the memory. “My mom still has pictures of me, and it’s one of the most embarrassing things ever!”
Dick burst out laughing, putting down his carving knife to clutch his stomach. “That’s too good! I can’t wait to see that picture! I can totally picture you with a little cape and fangs that are too big for your mouth,” he teased, moving closer to get a better look at your pumpkin.
“Shut up! I was only eight! I thought I looked cool!” you retorted, trying to sound indignant but failing miserably. His laughter was infectious, and soon you found yourself laughing along.
“Okay, but let’s be honest. You were probably the cutest vampire ever,” he said, leaning in closer to inspect your work. “And I’m not sure what’s scarier: my pumpkin or the thought of you with a cape.”
You felt your cheeks heat up at his compliment, a flutter in your stomach as he leaned in to examine your pumpkin closely. “Thanks! I’m going for spooky-cute, you know? The perfect balance,” you said, focusing on carving the jagged smile.
After a bit more back-and-forth, you both paused to admire each other’s work. Your pumpkin had turned out beautifully, the jagged smile and piercing eyes giving it a menacing yet charming look, while Dick’s creation was… well, unique, to say the least. It featured a goofy, lopsided grin that was more silly than scary, and you couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
“I think yours might scare off all the trick-or-treaters!” you teased, pointing at his pumpkin. “It looks like it just got done running a marathon!”
Dick chuckled, feigning a pout as he crossed his arms. “Excuse me, but that’s exactly what I was going for! The ‘scary but adorable’ vibe.” He gestured grandly toward his pumpkin. “This little guy is going to steal the show!”
You shook your head, still grinning, but then your expression softened as you looked at him, your heart swelling with warmth. “Honestly, I love it. It’s so you—full of fun and unexpected charm.”
His gaze met yours, the playful energy shifting into something more intimate. “And I love you,” he said softly, moving a little closer, his expression sincere. “I love how you make everything more fun. You’re the one who keeps me grounded, even when I’m pretending to be a horror icon.”
Your cheeks flushed at his words, and you leaned in closer, playfully nudging him with your shoulder. “Well, I’m glad to keep you on your toes. Just remember, I’m still the one chasing you down at the party!”
“Only if you promise to keep it PG-13,” he said with a laugh, leaning back against the kitchen counter, his eyes sparkling with mischief. “I’d like to leave some mystery for the next Halloween party, after all.”
With the room filled with laughter and love, you both settled into a rhythm, finishing up the carving and lighting candles to place inside the pumpkins. The flickering flames illuminated the room, casting playful shadows and filling the kitchen with the warm, cozy glow that made everything feel perfect.
You admired your handiwork, the warmth of the candles reflected in Dick’s eyes, and you couldn’t help but smile. “I think we make a pretty great team, don’t you?”
He nodded, a soft smile playing on his lips. “Definitely. Here’s to many more adventures and memories together. I wouldn’t want to do this with anyone else.”
You both leaned in closer, sharing a gentle kiss, the world outside fading away as the glow of the pumpkins surrounded you in a cocoon of warmth and love. In that moment, everything felt perfect, the bond between you deepening as you embraced the spirit of Halloween together.

Always Been You (Dick Grayson x Reader) - Chapter 10
Always Been You (Dick Grayson x Reader) Reader Insert: she/her pronouns Word Count: 4806 Warnings: death, violence, fighting, bloody wounds, angst, infuriatingly oblivious love interest, slowburn Spoilers: Young Justice Seasons 1-3 plot partially, but it ended in 2022 so catch up.
~~~
'Y/N.'
Y/N didn't look back, too busy focusing on what was in front of her as she made her way from the empty courtyard towards the palace. Her armour clinked; her footsteps bounced from pillar to pillar; the screams of her fallen sisters still rung in her ears.
'Y/N, wait a second.'
As she made her way inside, Y/N found the halls filled with the wounded, bleeding, dismembered, many crying and many covering their fallen in respectful white cloths. Many turned to her as she walked by them, red-rimmed eyes pleading at her.
'Princess,' they murmured as she walked past them by way of acknowledgement, but also with misplaced hope. All Y/N could do was keep walking but she could never escape their sorrowful eyes, their bloodied hands they held out to her.
This is all my fault. This is all my fault.
'Y/N, hold up.'
So she turned her head forward and increased her pace, avoiding anymore contact from the helpless and damned because what could she offer them but more empty promises and death?
The cold reality that the Amazons might not win against Echidna settled cold and deep inside her, and that spurred her on towards the Strategy Room.
'Y/N!'
Y/N was finally forced to a halt when a hand wrapped around her wrist and pulled her to a stop. Having finally stopped, Y/N noticed they were at the top of the same set of stairs that they'd argued with each other on that second night Dick was on Themyscira.
Begrudgingly, she turned around to face Dick, who looked up at her with concern and worry in his eyes. 'Hey, he said softly, taking a step upwards. 'You okay?'
'I don't have time for this,' Y/N said with a strained voice and tried pulling away. She wanted to be anywhere but there in that moment.
'Yes, you do,' Dick insisted, tightening his hold on her wrist and forcing her to face him again. 'I mean, come on, you just saw your friends die before you. You have to be feeling some sort of way.'
'Yes, thank you for reminding me of my failures, Dick,' Y/N spat back. 'Thank you for reminding me that I just killed all those women and young girls. That I lead them to their deaths and did nothing to save them!'
Dick finally let go of her wrist, but his disbelieving gaze held her in place. She never could escape those big blue eyes of his.
'It's not your fault, Y/N,' he said slowly, carefully. 'You're not the one that killed them.'
'Didn't I though?' The faces of the fallen flashed behind her eyes, and the begging of the young girl pounded in her ears. 'I incited this war with Echidna; I made those women believe we could win, that they would live. And when they begged for my help, begged for that power from last night...'
Y/N hiccuped as she felt tears well in her eyes. But she swallowed her sobs, held the tears back. She had no right to cry, to feel sad. She wasn't among those slaughtered and burned alive.
She wasn't dead.
Once her resolve had returned, Y/N said to Dick in a clinical voice, 'I refuse to lead anymore Amazons to their deaths. There will be no more bloodshed from our side.'
'But how are you going to ensure that, unless...' Realisation dawned on Dick's face and Y/N hated the guilt that arose in her from the sight. 'No, you can't just give up. You can't just surrender to Echidna.'
'What other choice do I have, Dick?' Y/N argued. 'There is no defeating a hydra of that size and ability without losing hundreds more. There is no defeating Echidna when she can just summon more of her monstrous children. I was a fool to think otherwise and it has cost us hundreds of innocent and good warriors.'
'You can choose to fight!' Dick said, his tone exasperated. 'You can choose to stand your ground and defend your home, your family.'
'At what cost, though? I have led too many to their deaths already. Calliope was injured greatly just now and I couldn't stand it if... if you...' Y/N didn't even want to finish the thought, so bit her tongue and looked away.
Dick remained silent for a moment and Y/N hated to think of what he might be thinking. 'If there is anything I have learnt from being here, it is that an Amazon would rather die than give up.'
It might've been the truth, but all Y/N felt was hurt and betrayal. 'Are you saying I'm not an Amazon?' she asked pointedly.
'Not a true one at the moment, no,' Dick answered.
'How dare you!' Y/N stepped closer to Dick until her finger was so close to his chin she could feel his haggard breath on it. 'I am the Princess of Themyscira. I am doing what is best for my people to ensure their survival!'
'At what cost, though?' Dick asked, seemingly unbothered by her finger. 'You would abandon your values and thousands of years worth of Amazon glory and sacrifice in one moment of fear?'
'What, like you abandoned the team when you were scared?'
Dick's face darkened at the low jab, but Y/N couldn't care. She was hurting, and she would make him hurt too.
Y/N dropped her finger and took one step closer. They were eye level now despite Dick being the step down from the landing. 'You don't get to judge me, Grayson,' Y/N hissed, never breaking eye contact with him. 'I am doing what is in my people's best interests the best way I know how to right now. And if you can't get around that, then I suggest you swim your way back to the mainland and pray you don't get eaten because you are of no further use to me.'
They glared at each other for a few moments longer, both of them breathing laboriously. Y/N knew whoever broke first would concede the fight and Y/N was sick of losing to Richard "Dick" Grayson.
Eventually, Dick looked away defeated and Y/N released a small sigh of relief.
'That settles it then,' she murmured, then turned to continue her journey to the Strategy Room.
'If you think you can strike a deal with Echidna that will spare the Amazons, then that is what makes you a fool,' Dick called out to her just before she turned the corner, his words tainted by anger and disappointment.
Y/N paused at the corner, frozen by the implication of his words. Coward. Pathetic. Weak.
If only he knew this was all for him too, she thought as she turned to face him one last time.
'Call me what you want,' she said weakly. 'I don't find any merit in the words of a hypocrite.'
It was a low blow, she knew, and it twisted something inside her when she saw Dick's face drop with shame and betrayal. There was no going back now, though. And so she took her injured heart and rounded the corner, leaving Dick standing wounded on the steps for a second time.
Once she rounded another corner, Y/N finally allowed her tears to fall. She allowed herself to feel her guilt, to feel her grief. Hopelessness and shame threatened to swap her at the thought of what she was going to do.
But what other choice did she have?
She couldn't answer that question, as she arrived at the doors to the Strategy Room. Y/N took in a deep breath and dried her eyes as best as possible before opening the doors.
Upon entering, she found the other generals except for Calliope standing around the round map table, her grandmother among them. Their discussions paused as they saw her, and by their expressions she didn't look to be in a good state. Y/N went to speak, went to bring up her warrior facade so that she may address them, but she couldn't do it.
The silence broke when Queen Hippolyta said softly, 'Everybody, please excuse me and my granddaughter. Now.'
The generals rushed to leave, all of them giving Y/N a gentle pat on her shoulders in slight comfort as they did. Y/N didn't respond. She didn't take her eyes off her grandmother, even when the doors closed and it was just them.
Slowly, Queen Hippolyta made her way around the table to stand in front of Y/N. Y/N only realised she was shaking when her grandmother gently took her hands into her own. Only then did she looked down to her grandmother.
'I sense a heavy burden has fallen upon you,' Queen Hippolyta said, her tone sad. 'What is it that troubles you, my dear?'
'I fear we will not survive this war, Grandmother,' Y/N admitted, her words strained as she resisted crying again. 'Echidna... I was too bold to think we could fight a god.'
Queen Hippolyta lead the two of them to a nearby lounge where they sat and held each other's hands. Y/N was grateful for the reprieve on her legs. She hadn't realised how tired she was until then.
'So, what do you plan on doing next?' Queen Hippolyta asked.
Y/N took a deep breath before explaining. 'I plan to confront Echidna... and make a deal with her to spare us.' Her grandmother's face darkened with offence and just as she opened her mouth to protest, Y/N interrupted. 'And before you argue, yes I know that this is the coward's choice. But I see no other way for the Amazons to survive unless we call for some kind of truce.'
'And what do you plan to offer her in order to achieve this?' Queen Hippolyta huffed with indignation.
'Myself,' Y/N answered. 'I will offer my life up so that she spares everyone else's. Gods love their deals.'
'Yes they do. But they also love breaking them,' Queen Hippolyta said, her tone frustrated. 'What's to stop Echidna from killing the rest of us when you are killed, huh? surely not their conscious, or should I say lack there-of. Who will be there to stop her from wiping us when she wipes you from this earth completely?'
Y/N went to argue but found she had nothing to argue with. She was naive to think a god as nefarious and vengeful as Echidna would ever uphold a deal made with a mere mortal.
'Then what am I to do, Grandmother?' she pleaded. 'I see no other way out of this mess that doesn't end up killing most if not all of us.'
'Then we will die,' Queen Hippolyta said, her grip tightening over Y/N's hands. 'But we will die as the warriors that Athena made us to be. Not the cowards Echidna thinks we are.'
Tears rolled down Y/N's face and sobs threatened to suffocate her as reality hit. 'Oh my dear,' the Queen cooed and pulled Y/N into her arms as the tears and sobs overtook her.
'I just... I just wanted to save them,' Y/N said as she clutched onto her grandmother. 'They don't deserve to die. All those girls out there... I couldn't help them.'
'You cannot save everyone, Y/N. You should know this better than anyone.' The Queen pulled away from the hug and Y/N sat up straight, looking at her grandmother wide-eyed. The Queen reached out to Y/N's cheek and wiped the remaining tears away.
'But all is not lost yet. You still have some warriors, you still have that boy of yours, and you still have your power.'
Y/N gave the Queen a confused expression but all her grandmother did was smile knowingly. 'News travels fast, you know. I heard what happened on the beach. It was quite impressive what you did.'
'But it's not my power,' Y/N countered. 'And when I asked for Athena's help again just now, nothing happened and I couldn't help those girls.'
'You think the power belongs to Athena?' the Queen asked, an amused laugh escaping her briefly.
'What? What's so funny?' Y/N asked, completely confused now.
'Athena is our creator, dear, but like most gods she does not help her children,' her grandmother explained. 'That power you used on the beach was not from Athena, but yourself.'
'From me?'
The Queen nodded. 'Your mother tapped into her power around your age, as did I, and my mother before me. We come from a long line of women who are able to tap into their inner strength, a magical gift from Athena's DNA. Not only do we posses her strategic mind and knack for combat, but we are blessed with her strength and power. It usually arises in a time of great need. But it only comes when the warrior is fully aware and accepting of they are. A True Warrior.'
The Queens squeezed Y/N's hand and smiled proudly at her. 'You have the makings of a True Warrior, Y/N. But you let fear and doubt influence your decisions too much. You fear loss and a broken heart, but I can tell you right now that none of those women who have died today or even millennia before that regret their decision to fight. Not a single person outside of this room, including that boy of yours, isn't willing to fight for this island and fight with you. All you have to do is lead them.'
'But what if I all I lead them to is their deaths?' Y/N asked quietly, almost too scared to hear the answer.
'All empires must come to an end, and maybe this time is ours,' her grandmother replied, 'but we will go out as warriors defending our homes... and the ones we love.'
She said that last part very pointedly and pang of guilt surged through Y/N. 'He's not my boy,' Y/N said, wiping a stray tear away. 'Not now anyways. If he ever was to begin with, that is.'
'Of course he is,' her grandmother interjected. 'When you love someone, you don't give up on them so easily.'
Y/N stared at her grandmother shocked. the implication of her words had Y/N's thoughts turning around so fast she could barely think a single thought except for one.
'Dick loves me?' she asked.
Her grandmother sighed in frustration. 'I love you, but you are more oblivious than your mother some days. Of course he loves you. He wouldn't have sailed the world's oceans trying to find an unfindable place otherwise. He wouldn't have helped train the other warriors if he didn't. And he wouldn't have stayed to fight this evil, knowing full well that he might not live long enough to see home again, if he didn't feel that way about you.'
Y/N could hardly breathe as her grandmother piled the evidence up. For so long she had believed he felt nothing romantic for her, but her grandmother was putting forward a convincing argument.
'But- But he's never indicated that he feels that way,' Y/N tried arguing, although she couldn't help the little flutter of excitement in her heart.
'Trust me, dear, he has. Whether he knows it or not yet, he loves you. And I think you better tell him how you feel in case this war goes further south. Don't you?'
Y/N sat with her thoughts for a moment. It was hard to comprehend that Dick Grayson, her best friend and the love of her life, actually reciprocated her feelings. But whether she accepted it or not, her grandmother was right about one thing.
'I will,' Y/N said, her mind clear, her resolve strong. 'After we come up with a plan to get rid of that hydra outside and then Echidna.'
'You've changed your mind?' the Queen asked.
Y/N nodded. 'You're right. If we die, we die as who we are, not as Echidna wants us to be. But we are not dead yet, and we are Amazon warriors, meaning we have the tactical minds of Athena herself.'
'Meaning?' her grandmother asked.
Y/N smirked. 'Meaning... I am sure we can come up with a plan or two to send Echidna and her monstrous children back to the hell in which they came from.,'
Her grandmother embraced Y/N once more and squeezed her tight. 'That's my girl.' When they pulled apart, she asked, 'Now, what did you have in mind?'
~~~
Dick sat in the infirmary beside a resting Calliope whose hands were bandaged in the hopes they would heal in time for the next wave of attacks from Echidna. All those who laid in the infirmary were hopeful to rejoin the fight. But as Dick sat there, looking around at the bleeding, the dismembered, the dead, he couldn't help but think they all were wishful thinkers.
'It's alarming, isn't it,' Calliope from her propped-up position on her cot. 'How quickly a battle can go south. How so many people can end up in a place like this after just one day of fighting.'
'I've been in battles before,' Dick replied, though his voice felt distant when he spoke, like it was coming from someone else. 'I've dealt with casualties before, just... never to this scale.'
Calliope huffed with weak amusement. 'Then you are a lucky warrior. But I guess we are lucky too. For a time, this was our people's normal. We train here most of our lives and never see battle. The younger ones crave it, but us older ones know to be grateful. War is not something I wish to experience my whole life.'
Dick hummed in agreement, reflecting on his own life. Since he was ten, he'd known violence. Befriended it in a weird way. Back when he was with the team - and even when he left - he always craved action. But Calliope was right; he should've been more grateful for the quiet times, the times of peace. That's what the Justice League and the Young Justice team were for anyways.
To fight against injustice, and keep the peace.
Breaking his thoughts, Calliope rested a bandaged hand upon his own that rested on her bedside. 'It does not do one well to dwell on the past,' she said, a knowing smile softening her usually stoic features. 'But I guess it is hard to look to the future when the past is constantly around you.'
She gave Dick a pointed look, and Dick sighed as he pulled his hands away from hers. 'My relationship with Y/N doesn't matter right now.'
His heart dropped as he recalled their earlier fight. How desperate and frightened she'd been but wouldn't let him in. It hurt him to think he couldn't help her, but everything she'd thrown at him, he knew she'd meant it. Perhaps she'd finally allowed herself to say the things she'd never allowed herself to say about him until then.
Deep down, under all her armour and strength, she hated him. She hated him for leaving, for abandoning the team.
'In fact,' he continued sadly, 'I don't think I have a relationship with Y/N anymore.'
It broke his heart to think of all the years they'd been together, all the triumphs they'd shared and all the failures they'd had to rise from together. To think that all of that was gone just because he got mad at her for trying to do the right thing by her people? He was a fool, a damn fool.
'That's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard, mortal,' Calliope injected so matter-of-factly that Dick looked up at her like a stunned mullet.
'Excuse me?' he questioned.
'Are all mortal men as deaf and blind as you are?' Calliope asked, rolling her eyes as gently wiggled herself into a straighter seating position. 'You and the Princess might have gotten off on the wrong foot when you first arrived here, but I can tell she cares for you deeper than you realise.'
Dick shook his head. 'I don't think so. We had a huge fight just before. I don't think she'd care if I walked out of this palace right now and got smoked by the hydra.'
'Sure she would!' Calliope argued. 'Look, people have fights all the time. That doesn't mean you love them any less for it. I've seen the way she looks at you when you're not looking, like you hung the very moon and stars that look over us right now. That kind of admiration, that kind of love doesn't just vanish because of one measly fight.'
Love. Dick was stuck on that one word as Calliope kept talking. He deconstructed it and put it back together over and over again and yet it remained ever-present.
'Well... of course we love each other,' Dick staggered for words, for reasoning to battle against his warring heart and mind. 'We've known each other since we were ten. We've been through everything together.'
Calliope just sighed and slumped back in her pillows. 'You exasperate me, mortal. You will die with regrets you do not even know of. And for that I feel sorry for you.'
Dick stared at her befuddled. 'What are you talking about?'
Before she could answer, the doors to the infirmary opened and Dick was surprised, delighted, and annoyed at the sight of Y/N walking through the giant doors. She greeted and hugged all she could as she made her way down the aisle towards Calliope's bed. Dick was half-hoping, that she would just keep walking past. But she did not, stopping right at the end of Calliope's bed.
'Friend, how are you?' Y/N asked gently, a genuinely regretful expression on her face.
'I am fine, Princess,' Calliope answered, raising her bandaged hands towards Y/N. 'It is just a flesh wound. Our healers will have me out pf here in time for the next attack, whenever that will be.'
'Good,' Y/N said, and Dick saw her put on a front - the front of a general. She stood slightly taller, held her head higher, spoke more confidently. 'We will need you ready for tomorrow's plans.'
Dick and Calliope both looked at each other confused. 'Plans?' Dick asked, standing from his seat.
Y/N nodded at him then addressed Calliope. 'Once you have healed, meet us in the Strategy Room. There we will discuss the plan.'
'Yes, Princess,' Calliope answered.
Y/N turned to Dick then and tilted her head back to the infirmary's entrance. 'Would you like to join me and the others in the Strategy Room? I would like to discuss the plan with you.'
Dick held Y/N's gaze for a moment, unsure of what she was doing. Only a few hours ago she told him he was useless, a waste of space. But now she was asking for his help?
He turned to Calliope, who nodded her head as if giving him permission to leave her bedside. 'I will join you both as soon as I am able,' she said, and with that Y/N lead Dick out of the infirmary.
They climbed the quiet staircase silently, walked many hallways without speaking. Dick wanted to speak, but what to say. He felt Y/N was holding back something too but seemed to be hesitating as well.
Finally fed up with the metaphorical chicken game, he let out an exasperated sigh and said, 'Okay, what changed your mind?'
Y/N didn't answer for a few more steps until they rounded another corner and she stopped and sighed. Finally she turned back to him, regret reflecting in her E/C eyes.
'You mean what made me realise I was being a coward and not a true Amazon warrior?'
Dick winced at the half quoting of his words she'd used. But as he opened his mouth to apologise, she raised her hand to silence him. 'It's okay, I understand. You were upset, and you had a right to be. I wasn't thinking like a warrior. I let my fear and my own pride lead me down a path of cowardice and shame. But, with some help, I realised... you were right.'
'I was?' Dick couldn't believe what he was hearing. For years, she'd always been the smarter one, always been the wiser one of the pair. This was new territory for him.
She nodded her head. 'Amazons don't hide or make deals to ensure their survival. They fight for it, they earn it, and if they die trying, and that is a worthy warrior's death.' She offered him a small smile. 'We win together, or we die together. Including you.'
Dick wasn't sure where Y/N was taking this, especially as she stepped closer to him. The firelight of the hallway torches made her hair ripple like fire and mad her eyes seem molten, alive. She was mesmerising.
'I'm sorry if I made you feel you had to prove yourself to me,' she said, her voice tight, apologetic. 'The truth is, I was just scared I would lose you again because of something I dragged you into. I wanted you gone... because I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I'd gotten you killed.'
Dick's heart hiccuped with Y/N's honesty. In that moment, he saw the ten-year-old girl he'd met all those years ago. How vibrant and brave and strong she was. Then he thought of the time they picked their vigilante names out for one another, and all the times they fought battles and trained and laughed and cried and it him then the legacy she'd taken on. The pressure she felt to live up to her mother's success - and it had all started at the age of ten.
And it was all coming out now, along with the tears that trickled down her face. Immediately, Dick reached hand out to wipe her cheek, and that seemed to make her realise she was crying and then she was full on sobbing.
Dick didn't think twice as he pulled her into his comforting arms, as he pressed her as close to him as he could so she could feel his heartbeat, to let her know he was there. For her.
'I'm not gone, Y/N,' he murmured into her hair. Damn, he'd forgotten how tall he'd grown since he last saw her. 'I am right here. I am not laying out there among the dead, I am here.'
She trembled in his arms, and his heart shattered just a little bit more. 'Yes, but you could've been,' she said, her voice all muffled as she continued crying into his chest.
'But I'm not, Y/N.' Once she'd calmed down until she was just sniffling, he pulled away to look down at her, his hands gently resting on her shoulders. 'I promise, Echidna would have to burn me to ashes and then burn them again in order to take me away from you. Do you hear me?'
Y/N, with wide eyes rimmed red, just stared up at him with an expression he didn't quite recognise. It was hopeful and full of admiration. And there was something else there, something that had Dick's heart skipping a beat with the possibility that it might be what he thought it might be.
'You had a chance to leave Themyscira,' Y/N said softly, never breaking eye contact. 'You had a chance to live and forget all about this and me... Why did you stay?'
The question struck him so hard in the chest he lost his breath, thus lost his ability to think and function. It was the easiest and the hardest question to answer. It was easy because the answer was staring him right in the face, but he found it hard to say because what if he was wrong? What if he was reading this whole situation wrong? And what if he ruined the best thing that ever happened to him if he opened up his mouth?
'I stayed... I stayed because... because...' It was right there on the tip of his tongue, all he needed to do was be brave enough to say it.
The doors to the Strategy Room banged opened and Y/N and Dick jumped apart to see Queen Hippolyta standing at the entrance. 'I'm sorry, have I interrupted something?' she asked.
Y/N quickly wiped the remaining tears on her cheeks away as she stood up tall once more and replied, 'No, we were just about to come in and discuss the strategy for tomorrow.'
The Queen eyed the two of them, and Dick thought she looked slightly disappointed. But she gestured for them to come in, saying, 'Well, by all means, let us discuss.'
Y/N and Dick spared each other one more look before heading towards the Strategy Room. Dick's heart was practically beating out his chest and he wondered for a moment if Y/N could hear it.
Focus, Dick, he reminded himself as he entered the room with the generals and the Queen. We have a war to win first.

Got inspiration from @cherry-aqua-blossom 's post, had to write something small rq

"He can't even work a toaster!! Why would you get him a speaker?"
Cameron shrugged, the newest Onslaught member's query barely audible over the music now blasting throughout the base.
"I thought it'd be funny, since he's always trying to work your phone for music."
"Yeah, and he stole it! To pair with the speaker!"
The song changed suddenly, Klarion yelling a short "Dang it!" that was quickly drowned out again.
You glanced towards Cameron, glaring, to which he only shrugged.
"Sorry."

Introductions Pt 3

Summary: Reader is a vigilante on young justice who goes to the same school as Walls. Only Wally doesn't know the readers identity, but she knows his. SLOW BURN
LAST PART
Part 1
Part 2
"Oh."
His body would stop moving in my arms. Being the only thing holding him up at the moment gave the leverage needed to move him forward, slowly. At this point, the fight had ended, and the rest of the team sat looking at Wallys disheveled appearance, his eyes blown wide open in shock. Robin was the first to our side spouting words that couldn't reach my ears. I didn't allow it. Step by step down the hall and back into the bioship. A deer in headlights was the only thing that seemed remotely close to how Wally had reacted.
Mind beginning to race, doubts returning, as I sat Wally down in a seat. He crossed his arms, folding himself in the seat in an attempt to shrink in size. I knew it. He didn't like me. I've ruined it. I'm - I'm a-
The feeling of a hand gripping my shoulder forced me to turn around. In my own state of mind, I somehow had reached the other side of the ship. Robin's words finally flooded into my skull. "H/n! What did you say to him? He completely slacked. You two almost fell off the edge." Oh. Yeah. "I'll tell you another time. I just wanna go home." Tears seemed to brim around the edge of my mask, threatening to spill with any further explanation.
...
Idiot. Kicking off my gear, throwing it onto the small corner holding dirty clothes. Idiot. Before dropping to the floor, head pressed into the side of the mattress, pathetically gripping the sheet. Finally, starting to cry. Everything started to crumble, the mountain of self-worth that has been slowly starting to build over the year shattered. Built on a foundation of hope. A hope that he, Wally, had liked what he saw. It's so silly to put so much on a boy. One that didn't even accept you for who you were. A disappointment, it could have been anyone in the world on that roof with him. Anyone could be H/n, just had to be you. A girl from his class who fell in love with both sides of him.
I love him. Shutting my eyes, I whisper it to myself, I love him. Stupid, this is how I realized. Slowly standing back up, I started to recollect myself. Walking over to the window, half expecting to see the yellow blur pass by in a sense of familiarity. Nothing. He couldn't even run by the house. Like he even knew you lived there. Walking... no stumbling, back to bed, trying to hide in the blankets warmth. I would roll over, adjusting myself, only stopping as the crinkle of a paper made itself known under the pillow.
Of course, I left it out. Of course, I left out one of the silly little notes he wrote. Hand reaching out, I grab the small folded paper. I know I shouldn't open it, but I find myself doing the exact opposite.
"What do you call an acid with an attitude?.... A-mean-oh-acid. Ha. Ha. Ha. That was bad. im sorry, but like, did you know the acid in your stomach is the strongest in the world. So strong it can dissolve a razor blade? If i ate one i wonder if id be okay"
He's right. It was bad. Terrible. Stupid even, but I can't stop myself when a smile graced my face. I wouldn't be surprised if he actually would try to eat one. I crumble the note and his perfectly placed handwriting. Another tear frames my face. Another momment passed before I realized, I have school tommorow.
With him.
On another note. I'm staying home tomorrow.

I click open my screen when waken by the sounds of my ringer. I accept the call, sleep fogging my vision. "Hello? It's one in the morning. Who is it?" I can hear a sigh over the other sign of the phone. "It's you." Oh. Oh, sh- "Y/n please, I'm coming over." His voice states rushed to the point my brain doesn't hear the last bits. "Wally, you don't know wher- why? Huh ? you're supposed to be mad right now." He laughs and I can hear the sound of a door closing behind him. "Wallace are you actually, Wally please its so late my parents are sleeping and I live on the second floor Walls they would kill me if they saw you."
I sit up straight in bed, partially realizing the state I sat in. Messy hair, a tear stained face, pathetic truly, my grip on the phone increases. If he's going to be here maybe I should put on some clothes... wait, what am I even saying ? "Wally? Where are you?" I check the phone, somewhere in my panic he hung up on me. I get up quickly grabbing a pair of shorts and I shirt. There's no way he knows where I live? Wally knows where I live? Kid Flash knows where.... without thinking I find myself trying to pick up my room half way through it there's a knock on the window.
No way.
I rush to the window pulling back my curtain, and there he was, standing in the fire escape. The largest grin plastered his face, growing twice in size as I open the window. Somewhere along the way he had changed into normal attire. A black shirt, and matching shorts. As if it was a covert mission. I look up to him, the very eyes I've stared at far too long catching my own, those freckled cheeks dancing as if they were the stars themselves when he spoke. In an instant he's inside, holding me close. "I'm so glad it's you."
His voice. His words. Words so desperately needed to be said, the way he seemed to melt back into my arms once more. It was too much. I began to cry again.
"Wally- I- I should have told you sooner." Eventually, I choked out. Even if he's quick to reply. "No. I shouldn't of reacted the way I did. If i'm honest, I don't even remember how I got home. I just could hear you. Over and over. Saying your name, h/n just saying y/n. I was just thinking. Trying to grasp that the two people I'd fallen in love with over the year... Are the same person? How was I so stupid? " He ducked his head back into my neck.
My heart spiked. One of his hands traveled to my face, whiping some of my tears, they were surprisingly soft.
"You're anything but. You're kind, you have the best jokes, light up any room you inhabit, and always know anything and everything when it comes to science." I pull away from him, the close proximity suddenly becoming too much, in the small space of the room I take a step back. Besides. I want to look at him when I talk. It's so much easier to read him. "Don't call yourself stupid. I hate it when you put yourself down like that."
"You're the one to talk." His eyes flicker to mine again. "Somedays, sure, it's better than most. I knowtice it. I watch you y/n. Even after our conversation. You beat yourself up over the smallest of things. You think you're the smallest thing, an atom in a world full of matter. But you do, atoms make up everything, make up matter. You matter. You matter to me! You matter!" He points to my heart and states.
I can't help it when I laugh at his accidental joke. Despite the situation, he can't help but bring science into it, into a joke.
"Every night when I can, I run past your house looking at that lamp of yours. You never turn it off until you head to bed. And well, the more I think about it, I kind of- sort of realize you were never in bed and probably out on patrol- and I know you're okay. Because I care, I care so much." I can hear the faint way his voice cracks. Are his eyes watering? I reach out for him, grabbing his hand in both of mine. He's always been so warm.
"I care because I love you y/n, and it's such a bonus that you're h/n because, heck, I fell in love with her too." He squeezes my hand "Even if you tried to hide your real self to the team. Those little things that slipped through, the real you. You might not see it. But I did. Those things I loved." My face becomes increasingly hot as he goes on.
"-how you think before you reply to me, bitting your cheek as you do so. How you listen to me. Putting your head in your hands and looking right at me. Even if what I'm saying is the most random thing. Do you know how hard it is trying to not forget what I was saying when you'd look at me like that? With such-" -Love' I finished in my head, watching how his eyebrows furrowed. As he tried and failed to find the right word. I go to say something, getting cut off quickly.
"-You'll remember. Like when I told you my birthday offhand and you bought me something." He throws his arms up in the air, and his head back, with his eyes closed. "Then got me something as y/n, and I was so confused how you knew it was my birthday. You bought me two things! Just to hide it." He laughed, looking down at his feet. Before placing a hand over his face.
By now, it was evident he was blushing. Once again, he was the color of his hair, no redder. "I just wish you could see yourself like I do y/n."
It's quiet for too long before I finally speak. "I'm trying... it's hard. It really is Wally. You've done more than you realize. Yes, some days are harder than others. I'm not perfect. But it isn't so hard with you there, and when you're not there, your notes are." I slip.
"I KNEW IT!"
He yelps before I quickly grasp my hand over his mouth. "Shhhh! If you wake my parents right now, Wallace, I will actually never talk to you again." Letting him go he starts to shake. Visibly shake. Like when we're fighting in combat, using his speed, it always happened when he got too excited. He's got that look on his face again. Like he's up to no good. Did- did me grabbing him cause that reaction?
"Yes, I keep your notes!" It feels good to admit. "They remind me of you, and you make me feel safe, compared to everything you've made me feel known, seen! I love you too, okay? said it!" I whisper in a yell.
The blur of red registers as it zips into my direction. His smell fills my noise as his lips meet my own. Dipping me slightly with a hand on my lower back, the other snaking around my neck... Like an old book, he smells like that stupid textbook.
My eyes are wide, not expecting the outburst of his speed to be used in such a way. Eventually though. When I realize what had just happened, I return the kiss. It felt like it lasted forever, and not nearly long enough at the same time.
As he pulled away, he apologized. I shut him up quickly by kissing him again, before my bedroom door opens, my light flicking on.,
"Y/n? What are you doing up so late I could of sworn I heard someone?" My mother calls as I turn to her. "Oh well-" I turn back to look to Wally. Only for him to be gone. "I just was using the bathtoom. I stubbed my toe though and yelled. Sorry if I woke you." She sighed biding me goodnight and closing the door. Wally rolls out from under my bed as I smack my face with a groan.

"Wally, I don't know about this. There's supposed to be a lot of important scientists there - I shouldn't be just going with you!" He rolls his eyes, adjustinging his tie. "You've meet my uncle before, and he's the smartest one there."
"How do you always drag me into this?" I ask aloud, hooking my hand into his, while we walk inside. "Because you love me?" He states with a roll of his eye. He leads me past the party goers until we reach his Uncle, who was engaged in conversation with a small group. He greets us both with a smile. I let go of Wally to shake their hands.
"Hi, it's nice to meet you all, I've heard so much about your research. I'm Barry's nephew. Wallace West, but people call me Wally. This is my lovely wife-" I finish "-Y/n, y/n West. It's a pleasure."
