A poster by Roshi Rouzbehani called My Hair is Not Your Battle Ground and reading ‘woman, life, freedom’ was inspired by the young Iranian women who cut their hair during the protests, which is usually a symbolic gesture of mourning.

"Here goes!" Gotenks said as he, Piccolo, and I began to scream very loudly to try to make a rip between dimensions to get out of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, but nothing happened. "It's not working!" Piccolo said. "Rip between dimensions... WHY! WON'T! YOU! APPEAR?!" I shouted in arc words.
"We gotta keep trying!" Piccolo said as he and I tried again. By now, Super Buu is probably on a feeding frenzy turning everyone in the Lookout into chocolate. "Too bad there's no audience to see this!" Gotenks spoke. "What're you going to do?" Piccolo asked. "Just guess..." Gotenks chuckled.
Piccolo then began to pound him on the head. "This is no time for your games!" He shouted. "Party pooper..." Gotenks groaned. "Guys, stand back..." Gotenks said as he began to shout in his Super Saiyan, but all of a sudden, we notice him skipping Super Saiyan 2 as his hair grew longer, and then he entered it! Super Saiyan 3!
"Yeah!" Gotenks said after transforming. "What?! Your hair... your body.... You've been transformed!" Piccolo said in his shock. "You guys like the new look? You should..." SSJ3 Gotenks smirked. "Holy smokes, Gotenks, you rock!" I shouted. "You bet I do. Just leave everything to me, big guy." Gotenks said to me, as he took a look in the mirror.
"Hey, with all this crazy hair, I barely recognize myself." Gotenks stated. "Eh, at least it's better than pointy ears." He said. "You've become a Super Saiyan 3... How...how did you do it?" Piccolo asked. "Does it matter?" I asked.
"Yo, Zizzi!" Shouted the Majin Time Hero, PJ from outside of Zizzi's apartment. (@muses-of-the-memory)
Zizzi would blink a couple of times as she looked over to the window. Pausing her movie as she would open it up. "Yeah, what's up?" She asked him as she stretched her arms over head.

Parenting styles in Dragon Ball Z (and Super)
You know, to me, the interesting thing about this scene (and the one where they could to the aforementioned park) isn't the fact that Vegeta keeps his promise.

It's the fact that he uses positive reinforcement to motivate Trunks.
Do you think Vegeta was ever rewarded for landing a good hit? Definitely not. It was expected of him.
As an expert in children's development, I find it fascinating to look at this example of Vegeta parenting Trunks and what it says about his parenting style. I've seen headcanons that go from calling 'Dadgeta' authoritarian to neglectful, but I disagree.
In the following, I will briefly describe the four styles of parenting with focus on the authoritarian and the authoritative styles. I'll also compare them to how DBZ parents appear to raise their children, but mainly focus on Vegeta.
Authoritarian:
This is the old school parenting method where restrictions and punishments go hand in hand. The parents expect the children to obey rules without a clear explanation as to why and corporal punishment is used when the children overstep.
Unsurprisingly, it seems like a lot of people believe this is how Vegeta raises his children (If he is even involved; I'll address this later on.) It was likely how he was raised.
However, the only parent we actually see using this style is Chichi. She's not entirely unreasonable, but we do see her expect things from Gohan without explanations and she has a lot of restrictions set up. This might have something to do with Goku's parenting style, but more on that later.
Piccolo also uses authoritarianism with Gohan, but he isn't trying to parent him, just train him.
What's really interesting is that children raised in a household practicing authoritarianism tend to hold a lot of anger inside. They also have low self-efficacy and high self blame. Remind you of someone?
Indulgent
Here we see nurturing, accepting parents who don't have behavioral expectations of their children. They are responsive to the children's needs and wishes, but do not expect them to be the same toward other people. The parents want to be the child's friend rather than a demanding parent.
Children of indulgent parents tend to grow up without a sense of others' boundaries and generally have less discipline than their peers. They lack impulse control and are often irresponsible.
In DBZ we do see signs of this parenting style, but only limited. It's not commonly used in Asia and therefore, Toriyama didn't add it. In GT it's obvious that both Trunks and Bulla seem have been parenting this way by Bulma. It's also why many doubt that Vegeta has been much involved.
It's also easy to argue that Goku parents this way, although it's up for discussion.
Neglectful
Although many think that the indulgent parenting style have created a generation of undisciplined young people, the neglectful parenting style has actually had a greater effect.
The parents are either more interested in themselves and their own goals than their children's. (Although sometimes it's because the parents struggle with stress or depression) Children of these parents are usually lonely and melancholic, often have very low self esteem and are needy after affection and approval. This leads them to be easily manipulated and they are at a higher risk to end up in abusive relationships.
I think many of the Vegeta antis and those claiming Goku is a bad parent would place the two Saiyans here.
However, Goku is clearly involved in Gohan's upbringing, albeit choosing a more casual approach than Chichi, and returns after being dead for seven years, ready to be involved with Goten (and Gohan if he wants it). The reason that Goku mainly focuses on training isn't just because it's his own interest. It's what he knows for sure how to do.
Most importantly: it was how Goku was raised himself. First by Grandpa Gohan and later from his other father figure, Master Roshi. It isn't just in his blood; it's in his upbringing.
And then there's Vegeta’s parenting style which was my main focus for this post. It got a little out of control, but we have finally arrived at the last parenting style:
Authoritative
This is the most modern parenting style, even though it isn't really new. It's been used for years in well functioning familes. This type of parent is both demanding and nurturing, being present and engaged in their children's lives. They explain things to their children, teach them how to regulate their feelings and therefore expect a mature behavior from them.
Children of authoritative parents tend to be more successful in their adult lives, capable of discipline and well-liked. Because they aren't constantly being restricted, they naturally develope autonomy within set boundaries and learn to respect others, regardless of authority.
So, what does this have to do with Vegeta and Trunks?
As I mentioned in the beginning, in the scene in the Gravity Chamber, Vegeta uses positive reinforcement to motive Trunks. Positive reinforcement has proven to be a healthy way to motivate children (and animals) and is a part of the authoritative style. By using it, Vegeta provides Trunks with rules that foster motivation and discipline in the child. The fact that Vegeta knows about the amusement and can use it as an incentive also shows that he is involved enough to know what may get Trunks to do his best.
But the most important thing we see is that Vegeta upholds his promise, despite hating every second of it. It shows that he respects Trunks' efforts and achievement. By honoring his word, he also teaches Trunks to do the same.
Of course, this is a small scene and we don't know how Vegeta behaves otherwise in regards to Trunks. But it's safe to say that Vegeta does take his son's wishes into account and uses it to encourage him to move beyond his limits.
I admit that I'm not a fan of GT and don't consider it canon, especially because of Toriyama's lack of involvement. So, while I dislike many aspects of DBS, I do think it's the best representation of the characters.
In Super, both Goten and Trunks are well adjusted boys who both have discipline and test the boundaries of their autonomy. They act like boys their age, albeit with incredibly strength, and it goes to show that their parents have raised them well.
Of course, it's also important to remember that both DBZ and DBS (and even GT) are a product of their time and the parenting styles reflect that. DBZ is from the 80's where the authoritarian (Chichi) and indulgent (Goku) styles were the most common. GT is from the 90's where the media started to focus on indulgent and neglectful parents - even though it wasn't a new thing - and it's shown that Trunks, Bulla and Goten have grown up as spoiled and undisciplined. DBS shows that the parents in the show have become authoritative and their children's behavior reflects that.
It's clear that the parents are doing their best and that the fathers have become more involved nowadays than before. This is the case in modern parenting as well.
Anyway, this is the end of my long rant. I think, as both an expert in children's development and as a parent myself, it's interesting to look into the relationships between the characters, especially the father-son interactions which are explored the most. There's no doubt that Toriyama knew the importance of being a father and wanted to portray it, mainly in Goku and Gohan's relationship.
I don't think Toriyama saw Goku nor Vegeta as bad fathers, but he knew that everyone has different strengths, even in parenthood.

The Righteousness of Saiyans
(according to two Namekians)
Can we talk about this dialogue? So, after watching both the Super episodes and the Battle of Gods movie, I have to say that I much prefer the movie version. The pacing is better, the dialogue is better, and this little bit about how "righteousness" is defined is really interesting to me.
Each character seems to have different standards for what constitutes righteousness. Piccolo, apparently, has the highest standards. Whether this is a result of the influence that Kami has had on him, or just his perspective as a character who is fully aware that he was once evil, it's really telling about his character. It does fit with his personality type that he'd be overly critical of the others.
In the DBS episodes, he only points out that Vegeta is not righteous based on his past actions. That dialogue always struck me as out of character, since Piccolo himself has a history of being evil and the two of them have a parallel redemption arc. Piccolo fully understands that Vegeta is no longer an evil person, and he was the first to acknowledge that while he mourned him after his sacrifice in the Buu arc. But that doesn't mean that Piccolo thinks Vegeta is righteous either; he told the prince plainly that he was going to hell for his past deeds.
In the movie, Piccolo doesn't think that Vegeta, Trunks, or Goku meet the bar for righteousness. In their exchange, Bulma doesn't even contend that Vegeta is worthy of the term, but she does defend Trunks. Their discussion after that is both hilarious and also rather interesting, given who's talking.
Piccolo, looking a bit smug, argues that "Any boy that young who already has a serious girlfriend does not have a righteous heart."
Now, despite his small size, Trunks is 12 years old at this point. He might not have hit puberty thanks to his Saiyan genes, but by human standards, that's about the age when it's not unusual for boys to be thinking of girls. It seems that Piccolo is implying that Trunks is already having carnal thoughts about females, kicking him out of the righteous running. But this is coming from someone who is not supposed to even be capable of having carnal thoughts, so why would he judge the boy on that?
Bulma replies, "Oh shut up, you mean old prude. I bet you're kind of jealous of him."
Now this is very interesting to me. Bulma is pretty much the smartest person in the group and she is fully aware of his Namekian biology. Piccolo is a warrior type, so he lacks the ability to procreate on his own since he can't produce eggs. Bulma accusing him of being jealous that Trunks has a girlfriend at 12 years old suggests that she thinks he's not only capable of those feelings, but might also covet a companion for himself. Despite Bulma calling him an "old prude", Piccolo is only 25 (26 if you count the time in the HTC), so he's two decades younger than her. Piccolo's expression shifts from self-assured to a scowl, and he adjusts his posture to give her a sidelong glare, but he doesn't argue with her or point out how ridiculous that statement is. Could it be that she was not entirely off the mark? Piccolo does put thought into human romantic relationships. He doesn't always get the dynamics, but he tries to understand...which makes me wonder if he could be open to it for himself. Bulma seems to think so.
Chi-Chi, of all people, agrees with Bulma's comment, "Yeah, Piccolo." Then adds, "and are you suggesting that Goku's impure too?"
Piccolo winces at this while Goku facepalms, but Piccolo is saved from having to point out how his friend falls short thanks to Roshi harping on the fact that Goku is an idiot. Now, I am quite certain that Piccolo doesn't think Goku lacks pure-heartedness due to his lack of two braincells to rub together...but rather the fact that Goku is inherently self-centered. Goku isn't the worst parent, but he's definitely not the most attentive of husbands or fathers, either. Piccolo has spent years standing in the gap, mentoring and looking after Goku's kids and even helping out Chi-Chi when she needs it while Goku was dead, training, or simply not around to help. Piccolo loves Goku and he knows he's a good man, but he also has a pretty fair handle on his friend's faults, too. Goku's boys are the only Saiyans in the group of five that Piccolo actually considers pure-hearted.
Then Dende comes in to smooth everything over. It seems the young guardian has less strict standards than his Namekian friend as to what constitutes righteousness. He points out that righteousness doesn't mean perfection. All of them have risked their lives to save earth. He even adds that Vegeta may have been evil years ago, but he's changed since then. Seeing as how Vegeta killed an entire village of his brothers and Dende once refused to heal him because of it, this shows remarkable forgiveness on Dende's part.
It seems that, to Dende, as long as your *current* actions show that you're willing to risk your life for others, that's enough for him. He doesn't weigh the balance of good deeds vs. bad deeds. It's about where your heart is right now, and what you did in your past - no matter how bad - doesn't negate what your current choices are. To him, redemption means your past sins are forgiven and forgotten.
Everyone jumps on board with cheering for Vegeta's reformation, except Piccolo. Now, that may have also come from a place a jealousy. After all, Piccolo reformed himself first and has come a LOT farther than Vegeta in terms of being gentle, good-hearted, and selfless toward others. Where are his cheerleaders?
But I think that Piccolo's judgment of others is harsher because he has a harder time forgiving and forgetting than Dende does. I believe his attitude isn't just because he's critical of others, but also because there are parts of himself that he can't entirely let go of. Piccolo has put in more work than any other character to reform himself. His personality has remained the same, but he has a lot of outside influence with Nail and Kami. But the old King's memories are in there too, and I think he's very aware of the man he was. He's squared with it, but he'll never forget.
He constantly strives to be the opposite of what he was. He loves and protects his found family, he lays his life down for them repeatedly, and he invests the bulk of his time training, mentoring, babysitting, and even eating with them. He sees his own shortcomings, and the shortcomings of those around him, but he continually tries to do better. Even with all that effort, I'm not convinced he even considers himself worthy of the term righteous.

I think we all actively forget
Goku was trained under Master Roshi
For all we know, Goku could think this is practically the same as a fighter’s stats in battle, approaching it analytically in an effort to sway Elder Kai to help them
This moment is crazy every time

What's wild to me is how Goku is practically devoid of any carnal desires or thoughts, but he still takes notes on the size and quality of different women's breasts. Bro is gathering this info for what exactly???
The manga version is way more blunt
Son Goku is quite the comedic figure
#master roshi literally had to teach a young goku what he considers to be an attractive woman#even if it was a gag in the original db manga#goku has had lessons on this and knows exactly who hes dealing with when it comes to old men with wandering eyes lol#goku#son goku#vegeta#dragon ball#dragon ball z#manga#kaioshin#reblog#lmao#buu arc

More thoughts on aroace Goku/the autistic Son family (+ headcanons and postcanon ideas)
Because I couldn't justify putting them all in the art I just posted lmao
[Image ID: An aroace flag colour picked from Super Saiyan Goku, with Goku in front of it. End ID.]
I have always read Goku as somewhere on the aroace spectrum, especially during the early series.
(Thoughts/Goku-based thesis under cut)
In early Dragon Ball, Goku often has to have social concepts such as sex, gender, romance, etc., explained to him. This, of course, is related to the running joke that he's sheltered and has no comprehension of things which are second nature to most people.

[Image ID: A panel of Roshi saying "I am appalled by your inability to judge women!" Goku responds, "Really...?" End ID.]
(From Chapter 25, where Roshi is horrified that Goku does not objectify women. The surrounding panels are worse, typical early series jokes.)
He's 12 here, around the age where media often portrays young people as developing feelings of attraction. Though his lack of interest may be portrayed as due to his isolation, that really wouldn't have that much bearing on experiencing romantic interest when he explores the rest of the world. Toriyama consistently choosing to write Goku like this seems to say something more about him than just this running joke.
Then, of course, there's the (somewhat infamous) scene where Chi-Chi confronts Goku when they are both 18 or so and insists that he promised to marry her.
[Image ID: Two panels. In the first, Goku thinks, "Wow... And all this time, I thought she meant something to eat! Well, I guess that's it... I did promise!" In the second, he faces Chi-Chi and says, "Okay! We'd better get married!" and she says, "Yay!" End ID.]
(From Chapter 171. Searching for this exposed me to too many people's opinions on Chi-Chi.)
Goku is remarkably casual about agreeing to marry someone, especially as he didn't really know what it meant a few minutes ago. I really don't think this is intended to be taken too seriously -- it's largely a joke about how nonchalantly Goku treats things that are super important to most people, because he has other priorities than most people.
I don't think this is a reckless/stupid moment for Goku (or a predatory moment from Chi-Chi as I've unfortunately seen people say). He's young and doesn't understand social expectations very well and you know, he made a promise. It's perfectly reasonable to him.
Goku is now 18 and still exhibits the same cluelessness when it comes to romance, even though he has been around the world and met many people, including people his age.
This moment also makes me think a lot about my headcanons of both Goku and Chi-Chi (and the whole Son family) being autistic. Goku is so so autistic to me -- he largely exists outside of social expectations and is confused when they are imposed onto him, he is focused on one thing (mastering martial arts) to the point where other things seem unimportant to him, etc. On the other hand, Chi-Chi is also autistic but in the way of attempting to adhere strictly to social expectations because she wants to Fit In (#girlautism). Women get married because they were promised to someone when they were young and that's that.
This diverts from manga canon/Toriyama's writing, but in the anime filler about Goku and Chi-Chi's wedding there's a whole dumb bit where a character called Grandma Hakkake 'teaches' her how to be a good wife by making her clean her house.

[Image ID: A screenshot from the Dragon Ball anime where Chi-Chi is intently cleaning up a pile of dishes. End ID.]
(Episode 151)
It's so absurd that it makes me think about Chi-Chi rather desperately adhering to the social role of a Good Wife. When you consider this, it contextualises a lot of her characterisation. She is frustrated with Goku because he doesn't fulfill some socially-expected aspects of a Good Husband, such as earning the household's income, keeping Gohan in school, etc. She is frustrated because she has done her very very best to be a Good Wife and yet he doesn't seem to be trying at all.
This is NOT an attack on Goku in any capacity, I don't think he's a bad husband or father at all. There is a difference, however, between Goku's personality and the social construction of a Good Husband.
I'm thinking about this post by @gokustits where @dbfandom breaks down this rather infamous panel from the original Japanese (I highly encourage reading and interacting with the post because it's excellent).

[Image ID: A panel where Chi-Chi is yelling "Oh, come off it, Goku-sa! You never do any work, and you never look after Gohan-chan--!! Have you ever made a single penny since we got married--!?" End ID.]
@dbfandom: The first bubble is her scolding Goku for being an absentee father, but it's through the societal lense. She's saying he's a bad father (by societal norms: aka a "provider"), but not a bad "dad", and she's angry about the year and a half in which Goku was absent but could have not been (due to the wish to Porunga to be brought back that Goku refused!)
The difficulties in their marriage largely come from this miscommunication, where Chi-Chi assumes that Goku knows these societal norms because they're societal norms, but of course he doesn't. This isn't really either of their faults, especially as they got married at 18 (!!!). It's more tragic than anything to me.
Their early relationship feels kind of like 'playing house' to me. Chi-Chi has a very specific idea of marriage and Goku goes along with it. I do think they're happy, especially before the Saiyan Saga starts, but it feels less related to the social expectations and more in spite of them. They develop a relationship and enjoy spending time together, fall in love in some capacity for sure, but when Goku is pulled in other directions that relationship is strained.
This is going more into the realm of reading between the lines/headcanon, but my interpretation of Goku's feelings for Chi-Chi are really just that he enjoys spending time with her and doesn't mind what form it takes. I view him as a sex-neutral ace (he doesn't care much either way).
I don't think there's any doubt that Goku loves Chi-Chi as their relationship ends up.
While Chi-Chi's initial feelings for Goku definitely seem like she convinces herself that she has them because she's betrothed to him, I also think she develops very real feelings for him. I read her as a little aroace-spec too, though I think she specifically enjoys romance as compared to other ways of being with someone more than Goku.
Anyway! Onto the kids!

[Image ID: A coloured DBZ chapter cover in Japanese, with Videl, Goten, and Gohan. End ID.]
(Chapter 428/DBZ 234)
Gohan is actually the only one of the Son family I read as totally allo, lmao. Well, there's really not much evidence either way, but his romance with Videl feels fairly natural to me. If anything, they have more obstacles to their relationship than pressures.
(Except that one weird moment where Chi-Chi is excited that the girl Gohan likes is rich, but I personally don't think that influences him too much.)
I do really think Gohan and Videl is just one of these rarer cases where people fall in love in high school and get married young but end up with a pretty healthy relationship.
(It happens. I started dating my partner of 8 years in early high school lmfao, though we do certainly have some aroace-spec shenanigans going on)
Not to say they're completely untouched by social expectations and all. Being in a heterosexual marriage certainly comes with plenty of that. Gohan getting married young like his parents does also play on my mind. Even if he wasn't pressured into it, society certainly doesn't object to anything he does.
As for Videl, she is also very allo to me with her initial crush on Gohan. I like a lot of their early relationship which is built on training together.
(This only makes Super even more frustrating with how they completely strip Videl of her personality and what made this relationship interesting.)

[Image ID: A trading card of high school Videl and Gohan back-to-back, looking at each other over their shoulders and smiling. End ID.]
I also read Gohan as autistic, though he's better at masking than Goku. He also sometimes struggles socially (though this may also be part to his isolated upbringing) and has special interests (entomology in Super, of course, but also martial arts just like Goku -- I'm sure he has complex feelings about this considering his trauma but also his earnest love for it in less high-stakes situations i.e. Saiyaman).
Okay! Finally nearing the end, onto Goten (and a bunch of my headcanons)!

[Image ID: Three panels. In the first, Trunks says, "Y'know what, Goten?!" and Goten responds, "What?" In the second, Trunks says, "If I tried... I bet I could only beat you with one arm!" In the third, Goten says, "What?! One arm?! You can not!" End ID.]
(Chapter 433/DBZ 239)
To the surprise of absolutely nobody, I love Goten. I love the energy that he and Trunks bring the Buu Saga and their fun, childish outlooks.
I read Goten as autistic too ("no way, tumblr user autisticgoten"). Alongside some of his characterisation which feels very inspired by young Goku's, his friendship with Trunks also makes me think of this.
Often, Trunks is the instigator, proposing schemes for Goten to join in on. This may be explained by Trunks being the older and more confident kid, but I also like reading this as Goten being Autistic in the way that he really wants to fill the role of Trunks' friend well.
[Image ID: A full-body illustration of young Goten in his gi, smiling. End ID.]
(my art! full post here as I remain proud of it)
As for queer stuff, well...
We only have brief appearance of teen Goten as written by Toriyama, in the DBZ epilogue.
It's fairly brief and the most insightful thing, really, is that he mentions he's going on a date, which means he's interested in romance in some capacity.
[Image ID: A panel where Goten says "And I had a date tomorrow, too". End ID.]
Honestly, any conclusions drawn from that alone would be pretty narrow (I'm not analysing GT or Super in this particular post).
So... now for headcanons and my personal ideas!! Everything from here is from my own writing of post-canon DB, so fair warning if you're only interested in the analysis.
I really, really like teen Goten being bisexual and aroace-spec.
[Image ID: A digital sketch of teen Goten in a gi holding up a peace sign and saying "i love bisexuality", with a bisexual flag in the background, and another tiny doodle of him in the corner. End ID.]
(little scribble from 2023 I didn't post)
Goten is the first one in his family to actually identify as queer. This brings up a whole BUNCH of feelings when he comes out. Goku wouldn't care at all, of course. Chi-Chi definitely isn't intolerant but has some traditional ideas. Her entire marriage is built on heterosexual gender roles. She has a lot of talks with her son which lead her to consider a lot of things differently.
Goku never identifies as aroace because that doesn't matter to him but the idea helps him understand that the way he sees romance may not be the same for everyone. He and Chi-Chi talk a bit and while I think their relationship is definitely better after the Buu Saga in general due to their age and a lack of stressors, this really helps them come to terms with the unexamined issues in their relationship and how they've always had different expectations.
(Young queer people helping their older relatives understand things about themselves is so, so important to me and I just want to see it more. On a personal level, my sister and me coming out helped my mum realise she's bisexual.)
Anyway, my interpretation of teen Goten does flirt around a lot but he rarely has serious relationships and the people he dates always just end up as friends. This is because he's aroace-spec, and also because he can't conceive of anyone in his life being more important than Trunks.
In the end, as an adult he has a semi-romantic bestfriendship-based queerplatonic-y thing with Trunks. No particular labels. They just live together and are in multiple kinds of love!
(I hc Trunks as a trans man and gay but I will not go into that today because I will never shut up)
I think Gohan is definitely the first person Goten comes out to, though. After Gohan moves out, Goten has a habit of just appearing on his roof to talk with him, and this happens during one such talk.
[Image ID: A digital sketch of Goten and Gohan sitting on a roof under a night sky. End ID.]
(an unfinished sketch also from 2023)
And, to circle back to the Autism! During one of these talks, Gohan also tells Goten that he's been doing a lot of introspection/research and thinks he's autistic (and their dad is likely autistic...). And so the family are able to put a name on that certain thing that seems to set them apart from others.
(Last personal anecdote: I got my autism diagnosis right around the time my dad started to realise he is autistic too, as runs in his side of the family.)
Anyway! I could go on and on but this headcanons segment is already too long so I'll save it for other posts.
If you made it through this monster of a post, thank you!!! I hope you found something that rings true for you.

This is my first Dragonball fic so bear with me! I hope I got Goku's character somewhat right :o
Enjoy! @blushinggoku
"Come on Krillin! Show me what you got"
"Of course! Don't underestimate me Goku!"
Son Goku and his long childhood friend Krillin are training together in an open, green field. Its far out in the wild since their training sessions can get very heated and this way, they can't disturb other people and or destroy people's properties. Son Goku, who recently won the martial arts tournament and saved earth from demon King Piccolo, is having the upper hand. His last fights made him a lot stronger and even though Krillin knows that he won't give in easily. He also has his pride as one of Master Roshi's students.
In one swift motion, Goku uses a mismove of Krillin to his advantage and sends him flying. However, it seems that the black-haired fighter has underestimated his own power since the distance grows and grows and doesn't seem to stop anytime soon. Goku's expression scrunches up "Sorry Krillin!" he shouts after him and gets going to see where he went.
Little did they know that there was somebody else who was enjoying the quietness of the nature and the big, open fields for their own training. A young woman focused on the movements of her kicks and punches, her body and mind moving as one. Her eyes lit up as she notices a foreign source of Ki coming closer to her location. Her eyes focus on the direction and before it can hit her, she catches the smaller man and holds him upside down on his ankle.
"W-Woah hey! Let me go!"
He sounded nervous, wriggling around in the woman's iron tight grip.
"Who are you and why did you try to attack me?"
She asks in a strong voice, glaring down at him. Krillin gulps.
"W-What? No No, this is a misunderstanding! I did not try anything! I was about to crash into you because I-”
Before he could explain himself, there was a second source of Ki coming closer. It was on a completely different level, making the woman feel a bit uneasy. Whatever it was, it was strong, but it did not feel hostile.
"Krillin? Are you okay? I didn't mean to throw ya away this hard!"
Goku catches up to his friend and as he sees the situation, he tilts his head in confusion.
"Whos that? Are ya training a new technique or something-?"
"No! Now help me, please!"
Krillin sounds desperate, the blood already getting into his head from hanging upside down for so long. The womans eyes widen a bit.
"Wait, who?"
Her e/c eyes look him up and down. His black spiky hair, the very well-trained physique, the orange Gi and the strong Ki that radiates from him. Now it clicks. She looks down at Krillin, his face started to get pale and his expression screams that he is not feeling good at all. She lets him down carefully and holds up her arms in defense.
"I deeply apologize! I thought your friend wanted to attack me!" she bows down, and her face is tainted in a light, embarrassed blush.
Goku processes her words and then smiles
“No worries! Krillin can take that” he answers with a chuckle.
His best friend lays on the ground, the blood slowly running back into his body
“Y-Yeah..absol..absolutely” he mumbles in a defeated voice.
The fighter stretches his hand out to the woman
“Names Goku by the way! Nice to meet ya!”
He introduces himself with a warm smile. Y/N takes a deep breath and takes his hand, shaking it with a firm grip
“Nice to meet you too, my name is Y/N. I actually heard a lot about you” she answers with a small chuckle.
“Oh really? hope it's nothing bad then!” he answers and then helps his best friend up from the ground.
Krillin shakes his head to regain focus and brushes some dust off his Gi, the smaller warrior looks up to his friend
“Thanks man. I think I was about to pass out” he mumbles the last part quietly to himself.
Y/N shakes her head
“No, no don't worry. I know you from the tournament to be exact. I watched you fight and have to admit that your skills are very impressive.” she answers, a small shy blush makes itself present on her cheeks. It's not that she only watched one fight, she watched all. His fighting style and lighthearted personality caught her interest quickly.
Goku smiles brightly at the compliment and his eyes light up, as he thinks back to the tournament
"It was an amazing experience! There were so many strong opponents to fight. Man..thinking about this makes me feel all pumped up!"
He says energized and Y/N can pick up on his Ki raising slightly, mimicking his excitement for a good fight. Goku then holds his chin, thinking for a moment
"Wait a minute"
He then points at his friend, "Krillin was flying quite fast since i threw him with a lot of force" , his finger moves over to Y/N who starts to get a bit uncomfortable "And you caught him! Means your reflexes are quite good"
Krillin's eyes widen at the statement, and he looks up to the woman
"He's right! Hey Y/N, are you a fighter by any chance?"
Y/N starts to sweat nervously and looks to the side
“A-Ah..uhm..yeah but like I-” she gets cut off by Goku's strong hands gripping her shoulders
“I knew it! Then come, join us in training!” he suggests excited, his dark pupils sparkle “This will get all of us stronger!
Krillin smiles and nods in agreement
"He's right, the more the merrier"
Y/N starts to blush at the sudden contact, her eyes wander over to his toned arms that are gripping her shoulders pleasantly firm. She snaps back to reality quickly, not wanting anyone to notice her nearly drooling over the fighter. She then looks back up into his puppy like eyes. How could she ever say no to his request?
“Okay okay, I'm in! But my level of skill doesn't match yours in the slightest so..I don't know if you guys really benefit from training with me” she answers a bit nervous, avoiding eye contact.
Goku smiles and squeezes her shoulders reassuringly before letting go. Y/N already misses the contact.
“Doesn't matter! Any kind of training will get us stronger so come on, let's get right into it”
Y/N nods and the three of them start to get into a fighting position. The woman is utterly nervous, her limbs shaking a bit. //I have to try my best! No way I will miss this opportunity//
Krillin does not like the thought to fight against a woman at first, but he gets into the mood quickly after seeing how hard Y/N tries and that she surely knows how to throw some good punches. Even against Goku.
Goku smiles brightly and encourages Y/N to try and show some more, hyping her up. He can feel how much potential is hidden inside of her. How she partially blocks her Ki out of nervousness and not believing in herself strong enough. He wants to change that.
After hours and hours of training, Y/N falls onto her knees. Her breathing is heavy, and her body drenched in sweat, an amazing feeling if she is honest with herself.
Goku sits down beside her and smiles “That was great! You are really tough” he compliments her, stretching his limbs to prevent any after-training cramps.
Y/N’s cheeks start to blush in a deep red which is not coming from the exhaustion. Hearing such a compliment from him, a fighter of his skill, is really making her heart race
“T-Thank you..It was a lot of fun to train with you guys” she answers with a warm smile.
Goku stretches his hand out to her and helps her up, giving her hand a light extra squeeze before letting go. He looks down to her
"There is a lot of potential hidden inside you, Y/N. I can feel it!"
Y/N looks questioning at him
"You're limiting yourself through your mind" he taps at her forehead softly "Stop questioning yourself and your abilities and start believing in them! It will help you grow in no time." he adds and smiles warmly at her.
Y/N eyes widen a bit, something about his words tickle her emotions in just the right way. Her chest feels all warm and fuzzy. She looks up to him, his buzzing, strong but gentle Ki radiating of off him. She needs to smile and nods.
"Thank you Goku, your words mean a lot. I will definitely work on that"
Goku grins and lays his arms behind his head lazily
"Im looking forwards to next time already!"
Y/N blinks a few times, a faint blush creeping up on her face again
"Next time?"

The Joy Leaving the Work
This post will be discussing the works of Neil Gaiman and my personal relationship with them. If you don't like that or cannot handle that, kindly don't read. Also, there will be allusions to SA in the discussions.
So, a couple of weeks ago I decided to pick up Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman-- a book I've owned for a couple of years that's been in my "to read pile" waiting its turn. In the light of the allegations against Gaiman, I put off reading it a couple of months more as I tried to process how I felt. Now I've read it.
Background: Neil Gaiman has been my favorite author bar none ever since I read Coraline in 5th Grade. He and Sir Terry Pratchett share a bookshelf of honor in my room- the one right behind my bed, so I can easily reach for a comfort read. I've always loved his twists on various stories-- The Graveyard Book and Neverwhere being two of my favorites. The dark-but-not-too-dark tone, the dry humor, the magical realism, all of it. Anansi Boys looked like it would have all of that.
And it did! In a vacuum, this would have been a very enjoyable read. But with the allegations, I noticed things that I wouldn't have before. For example (spoilers, I guess):
Mr. Nancy (the titular Anansi) is a funny old man, and often a bit lecherous. In his final moments, he's doing karaoke with some young, buxom blondes when he has a heart attack and falls off the stage, hand outstretched. As he goes down, he sticks his hand out, grabbing one girl's tube top and exposing her as he dies.
This anecdote in the book is presented as something that embarrasses his son (our protag) but is generally interpreted by the other characters as something that was just so funny and charming.
It made me uncomfortable. In fact, just about every time Mr. Nancy alluded to his Master Roshi-like interest in buxom young women, I felt uncomfortable. But wait, there's more:
Spider (secret twin brother of protag Fat Charlie) is interested in Fat Charlie's fiancee. He tricks her into thinking that he IS Fat Charlie, and this girl who had been saving her virginity til marriage is so taken by him that they have sex. Meaning not only did he entice the girl to sex under false circumstances (this is rape), but it's also unclear as to how much of her going along with him is really HER and how much is his... mojo, I suppose. To the story's credit, once she realizes what has happened she gets angry and breaks up with both of them, no longer wanting anything to do with them... until, of course, happenstance brings them together again and she admits that she had real feelings for Spider, who finds himself wanting to behave better for her.
That doesn't sit right with me in the best of circumstances. These are not the best of circumstances.
I finished the book and it took me this long- two weeks and change- to decide how I feel about it. And how I feel about it is this-- I cannot separate it from the author. I cannot enjoy this book because the slime from Gaiman's actions oozes all over it. And that sucks.
I'm almost afraid to reread my favorites from him, for fear that my happy memories of those books will be ruined too. That SUCKS.
And it makes me feel dumb for never having seen the misogyny in the books before. It's like when Rowling showed herself to be what she was and I couldn't enjoy Harry Potter anymore, but worse because Gaiman is an author that I was still actively reading, who had been vocally supportive of queer and trans people, who I'd still looked up to. When it all went down with Rowling, I realized that I'd been excusing a lot of problematic shit in her writing as ignorance, rather than malice. But it WAS malice. And now I'm wondering if I didn't make the same mistake with Gaiman. That sucks too.
Anyway. That's my rant. Thanks for listening. Please share if you're having issues like this too, it's good to not feel alone.

return to the mists
It had been three years since Uzumaki Naruto left for training with Jiraiya. Three years had passed since the power of the villages had begun to shift. There were a series of events over three years that occurred following Naruto's appearance before Konohagakure's Hokage and his former teammates. One of the events was the public outing of Uzumaki Naruto by some unknown source. Now the world knew that the Kyuubi Jinchuriki still lived and that he was the son of a village's heroes. The ripple effects of that left Konoha side-eyed and regarded warily, but it also alerted others that the Uzumaki Clan was not as dead as it was thought to be. Another was the start to attacks on the jinchuriki. A nearly fatal assault on Sunagakure left its jinchuriki, Gaara, wounded and in hiding while he recovered. This assault had been stopped by a timely intervention from two fellow jinchuriki - Roshi and Han of Iwagakure. Yet, it introduced the world to a rising threat: The group called the Akatsuki. A band of mercenaries with a darker plan that had yet to be figured out. Yet another event was more tragic than anything. Miraomoi Akawarai had died in his sleep to old age and his waning health. A death that put Kiri in mourning for a while. Akawarai had been a pillar of the village and had moved mountains to better the village. He had inspired others and thus his loss was felt. Yet, he had set up things to continue on past his death - including the reborn Seven Swordsmen of the Mist. It was now time for the son of the seas to return home. Kiri was experiencing a quiet transition into the evening - the moon starting to lurch into the sky. Stars filled the vast sky above while the light mist settled down across the village. It was as the evening began that the Mizukage, Mei, would be tipped off to a very powerful presence now entering her village. A familiar presence of chakra that was now at Kiri's cemetery.
There, standing before the grave of Akawarai, was a familiar head of curly red hair. A "crown" of flames that befit a prince like he was. The young man with whisker marks on his face and his patterned scars. His body was covered by a tattered red cloak - tattered and "styled" to look like nine red and black tails. Two sheathed swords peeked out from his cloak. The scabbards looked to be simple in design - a dark brown leather holding for the swords. His head tilts when he feels her approaching. "I was going to come surprise you, but I suppose I should have suppressed my chakra first." remarked Naruto with a small smile crossing his face. He turned to face Mei - having done what he came to do by the time she arrived. A bouquet of flowers laid on Akawarai's grave.
#magmaprincess#[v: home at sea]#[arc: the coming storm]#here we go the first arc of the verse eeeee#starting off with some worldbuilding and sadness#but not gonna last since its them re-uniting!!!

Poly Dragon Ball x GN! Reader "Rage" part 1
Warnings, Death, talking about death.
You remember how you died. You saved someone from there own death, and sealed yours. You died a hero. At least, that's what you want to think.
Your life, it was boring, plain, normal... You had a broken family, your Mom and Dad got a divorce. You had no siblings.
You opened your eyes, what... What was this? Didn't you die?
"Welcome to the world, (Y/n)..."
From then, you relearned everything. If you where still alive, you would be (age) in your old life. But your around 12-14 in this body.
"Papa, do I really have to go?" You asked your Dad. He nods. "Master Roshi will be a good teacher." Your Dad pushed you to the little island house. You shyly walked up to the house, and knocked on the door. "Yes?" A old man opened the door. "Who's there Master Roshi?" Another voice came from behind the old man. "Just a new student I'll be training. They're Dad and I are good friends." Master Roshi says, stepping aside and walking in. "Hello, you must be young (Y/n)." Master Roshi says, smiling at you. "Yes, I am am." You bowed to him. "And they have quite the manners." Master Roshi laughs. You nodded. "Hi, I'm Goku!" The boy with the spikey hair smiled at him. "And I'm Krillin!" The bald one said. You bowed to them both again. "I am grateful for your teachings Master." You said to Roshi.
That night, you laid down in your new bed. This world was strange, it had dinosaurs in it! And Goku... Where have you heard that name before...?

Been busy with a few different fic projects, but something that I’ve been going back to a lot is parenthood in the ana camp.
Julius, losing his parents in a flood. Joshua, constantly feeling like a burden to his family, hiding his own reaction to Julius’ adoption so his father doesn’t feel guilty. How quickly Alviero takes Julius as his pride and the influence he’s clearly had on his children, being so kind to a young Anastasia and Mimi in Before Memories.
Then on Ana’s side, you have Ricardo who becomes her father figure with little resistance, getting a job where she works just to look after her. The landlady that takes Ana in too, and her bond with Halibel.
Roshi with the triplets, who then leaves them to Ricardo and Ana to look after. The same triplets who take Joshua under their wing, while Ricardo gives his blessing to Julius with Ana.
They’re all just so,,, connected. A family that care for each other greatly in their own ways. You cant really cut any of them out—losing Julius has Ana retreat to her od, scared to lose him, and losing Joshua really gets to Julius and even Ricardo, a little. Tivey doesn’t leave Joshua’s side after everything.
Emilia camp’s seen as like, one big family because of Subaru’s closeness with Beatrice, Meili, Petra, Garf, Ram etc and its definitely a valid take. But I think Ana camps the one thats closest to just being a family, with Tappei even addressing them (pre Josh and Juli) as such in an SS. Fits in amazingly with not just the emilia camp
Think this line from Ana says it best:
Upon noticing that, Anastasia pointed at Julius. “You were once wonderin’ why I was so confident in myself… Would ya get it if I said I got it from him?”
“That is…” Joshua uttered.
“Not jus’ him, though,” Anastasia continued, gracefully putting her hand on her cheek. “Tivey, Mimi, and Hetaro, too. What the hell, I’ll even add Ricardo to the list… And, of course, you’re in it too, Joshua.”
#rezero#julius juukulius#anastasia hoshin#will I ever be normal about this camp#no#no i will not#I will die over Josh angst forever
