Thinking about Luke's thread being cut before Percy even got to camp, thinking about Al's siblings being dead already by his first on-page appearance, thinking about Ethan having made the trade that sealed his fate before we even met him, thinking about The Oresteia "This was always going to happen. She's been dead since the beginning." thinking about John Darnielle "Their fate has already staked its claim on them from the moment they appear on-screen." thinking about Matthew Stover "This story happened a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. It is already over. Nothing can be done to change it."
Thinking about Richard Siken "You're going to die in your best friend's arms. And you play along because it's funny, because it's written down, you've memorised it, it's all you know. I say the phrases that keep it all going, and everybody plays along."
Thinking about how fate is a tangible and unavoidable thing in the pjo world and every single time, it stakes its claim no matter what the characters do to avoid it. The three Fates know when your string will be cut and have full control over it. The oracle always knows who will die, where and when, while the people in question can only cross their fingers and hope the prophecy isn't referring to them. Because if it is, then it is.

Let's talk about Bucharest Bucky 😍
So last night I couldn't sleep again so I thought about this and then I kept thinking too much and was awake till 4am but sometimes life is like that....
I've written some of the text like this so you can know what's being said but only the bold is what the reader understands. Hopefully that makes sense!
Running
You have escaped from the Hydra base, running blindly through forests, across railway tracks and through deserted city streets.
Your body is aching and burning from your running, but you can't stop, can't listen to it until you know they can't find you any more.
You've been frozen and unfrozen so many times you have no idea how old you are. You were taken and used and made to be some sort of baby making machine for Hydra. But it never seemed to work.
All you had now was broken Russian, scars, fear and twisted memories that you couldn't make sense of.
Finally you reached an abandoned building and squeezed through the holes in the window, you might have even nicked yourself on the glass but you didn't care. Your blood pumps through your ears and all you can hear is your own heartbeat thudding.
You sneak through the building until you come across a small room. It's got a beat up mattress and a blanket, a little radio and a table and chairs. It looks abandoned so you sink down to the mattress and let your exhaustion take you.
Meeting
You awake suddenly, aware of faint music being played in the background. Your body freezes as you hear soft shuffling.
"Are you awake?" A man's voice asks in the quiet of the room and you manage to turn over, putting your back to the wall and clutching your knees to your chest. He looks almost as nervous as you feel.
"You must be hungry? Come and eat" he places a bag of something on the table and it smells divine. Your stomach betrays you and growls so you tentatively hobble over to the table and take the food. You look inside and grab a fry, it's salty and warm and delicious, but you nibble slowly. Still watching him.
"Do you have a name?" He asked
You nod and manage to whisper it out. You point at him and he takes off the chain around his neck and slides it over to you.
The words "James Barnes.... 1917.... Brooklyn" stand out to you.
"My name is James" he says, almost as if he's telling himself as well. You rub the metal between your fingers as you nibble on the food.
"Brooklyn?" You say eyeing him. "Where?" He smiles and tells you it's America and your head nods because you think you might be from there too! You point at yourself and say "America!" Which makes him smile, which you like a lot.
"You're hurt" he says after a moment and he points to your feet which are quite bloody and dirty. You also have cuts on your limbs from your nighttime adventures. He moves and rustles around the room until he returns with bandages, water and other things from a makeshift first aid kit.
You start to shake when he approaches but you continue eating and stick your left foot out for him to help you. You think maybe he would have done something by now if he was going to hurt you. You can be brave. You can.
"What happened to you?" He asks but you don't understand him. Eventually he points at your injuries and says, "How..." He sets to work and you rack your brain for the words in Russian for your ordeal.
"In the lab. Unfrozen.... Lights go off... Very dark. Noises, very loud. I ran... Got away" your shaking intensifies as you talk so he gently squeezes your ankle as he wraps your foot in a bandage.
"Why?" He asks and you shrug. You had been asking yourself that over and over for the last, who knows how long. He finishes tending to your feet when he asks, "Who?"
Your fingers grip his tag and your hands shake when you whisper, "Hydra."
His hands let go of your foot and he stands up, backing away until he hits the wall. His face is pale as a sheet and he looks like he's going to be sick.
"Hydra had you? Did they follow you?" He shakes and it scares you because he had been so calm before but you don't understand everything he says as he rants, his brow covered in sweat.
You begin to cry, you don't understand and it's not your fault. As tears track down your cheeks he seems to calm down and comes back to you, kneeling and taking your hand in his.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I know.... I know Hydra.... We just have to be safe...." He says and squeezes your hand in his. "It's ok, let me think. Eat and I'll think... Just let me think..."
Eventually he removes his jacket and glove from his arm and you are shocked to see his arm is made completely of metal. "They hurt me too" he says softly. You nod and wipe your tears away as he returns to mend your wounds.
Learning
After a few days you settle into a little routine with James. You don't ever leave the room you just stay put and potter about. You listen intently to the radio, trying to pick up more words to improve your Russian when James goes out. He sometimes leaves his little book behind and you study the pages, running your fingers over his neat writing.
He brings food, he seems to like fruit and he shares soft peaches, crunchy apples and juicy plums which you both smile at as you eat.
You managed to learn enough Russian to insist he gets a mattress for himself after spending a week sleeping on the cold floor. When he was out you arranged them so your heads were next to each other in a little L shape.
Whatever Hydra had done to him it must have been awful. He wakes often at night sometimes shouting at a mystery spectre. It scares you at first, and you would lie dead still until his breathing returns to normal.
But as time goes on you feel braver and reach a hand out to him, pressing on his shoulder and whispering "I'm here". Words he taught you when you woke him up with your cries in the night. It seems to soothe him quicker and it makes your stomach ease when he relaxes at your touch.
Tonight he takes longer, shakes harder and you notice little tears slipping down his cheeks. Feeling brave you crawl off your mattress and perch on the side of his. Your hand rests on his tags and you rub them between your fingers.
"James Barnes.... 1917.... Brooklyn"
You whisper it over and over again, his hand grips yours and his breath finally evens out. You shiver in the cold and he pulls you down keeping you close and your eyes slip closed as your body warms up in his arms and your body relaxes.
Moving
James decides one morning it's time to find somewhere else to stay. "Never linger too long" he says as you help him pack up a few little things and you smile at him.
"Never linger" you say in a gruff voice at an attempt to mock him and he smiles, walking over and nudging you with his hip. It makes you giggle and he smiles more.
He brings you to a little apartment block and walks up to the fifth floor. It's a dingy little place and you don't feel very safe but you know being with James it'll be ok.
You help him cover up the windows and clean the room. He moves the bed into the kitchen as you scrub the sink clean, noticing there's only one now. It makes you feel....something.
He goes out again and returns with some essentials. A few more clothes, some fresh bedding and some food. He also pulls out a pot plant out of his rucksack and he turns almost beetroot red as he slides it across the table towards you.
"I can't buy you flowers. But I can buy you this..."
You smile and shuffle round the table sliding your arms around his waist. He presses his lips to your head and you both stay there for a moment, before going back to your chores.
Summer
As the heat builds in the city you feel braver about being outside. Sometimes you don't go out together so he has sorted out a plan in case anything goes wrong.
While he does his thing, you do yours. You spend time at the nearby library and take books home to read with James. You sit in his lap and run your finger along the page, following the words. He holds you close and rubs circles in your skin, soothed by your soft, determined voice as you learn more and improve everyday.
"That was great" he says softly as you close the book and lean back, his lips just inches from yours. You hesitate for a moment before leaning forward and brushing your lips against his. It's electric and then he's pressing his lips against yours, sucking and wrapping you up closer as you whine in his mouth.
You shuffle around a bit in his lap before you are straddling his hips. His metal hand grips at your waist as his flesh hand strokes your cheek. Your fingers grip his face and you lean in for more.
It's suddenly boiling and you pull off your dress and tug at his red shirt until he drags it over his head. Your hands skim without hesitation across his skin, loving everything you see, wanting him against you and closer than you've ever been.
"Beautiful" he whispers as he dips his head down to take your nipple in his mouth, sucking harshly as you tug at his hair and moan. He lavishes attention to you until you become impatient and needy.
"James please" you whine and he finally relents pushing you backwards and laying you down in front of him. He takes a moment removing his jeans and underwear as you lay there, unable to move. You feel scared all of a sudden as he climbs over you.
"Talk to me" he whispers softly as his nose runs over your face and he presses kisses to your cheeks.
"M'scared" you mumble as he gently presses his body down and covers you in his warmth. He soothes you, reassures you and relaxes you until you need him all over again. He chuckles as you kick off your underwear and drag him back on top of you, his thick length pressing against your stomach as you kiss each other with abandon.
"I love you" you whisper as he sinks into you and he exhales a smile. "I love you too"
When your bodies are worn out you lay, wrapped in his arms, a cool breeze dancing over your skin as he kisses your forehead. Suddenly into he dark he mutters,
"Bucky... I'm Bucky"
Loss
One day everything goes wrong. You come back from the library and see the apartment block surrounded by police and army types in tactical gear and guns. Some men are being carried out on stretchers while others head inside.
You almost drop your stack of books but manage to keep walking as you feel panic set in.
Like you've practiced, you walk for 20 minutes towards the local park and you sit in the bandstand for an hour. Then, leaving the books behind you walk for another half and hour and go to the train station and buy a ticket. After the train departs you walk to a coffee shop 10 minutes from your apartment and wait there.
You were hoping Bucky would be there. That was always the plan. You kill time and regroup together later. But as you sat there and waited it was clear he wasn't coming.
Was it hydra? But you had been so careful not to be found.
When the cafe was closing you didn't know what to do so you did the thing you shouldn't do. You headed back to the apartment. It was totally deserted from military activity so you snuck in.
As you climbed the stairs you noticed broken bars on the staircase. Neighbours were attempting to fix their broken doors and dust and the smell of gunpowder was everywhere.
Finally you reached your door. Well what was left of it. The room was in chaos. Bullet holes everywhere, the bed ripped to shreds and a telling hole in the floor where Bucky kept his getaway backpack.
You managed to reach the bed and collapsed into it, sobs wracking though your body. He was gone. Someone had hurt him and taken him from you. And now you were all alone again.
Steve
A few days later you heard footsteps coming up the stairs. You ran into another room but you were spotted and heard a voice say, "Hey!"
You hid behind a wardrobe and a tall blonde man walked into the room. He looked a bit worse for wear and desperate as he looked at you.
"I'm Steve. Rogers. I'm a friend of Bucky."
You had definitely heard that name before. Bucky talked about Steve all the time, and now you looked at him, it was definitely Steve Rogers. Bucky had pictures in his little red book.
"Bucky told me to find you. He's safe, he's with me. He told me he wouldn't go any further without you, so please, please come with me..."
Throwing caution to the wind you removed yourself from your terrible hiding place and nodded. He gave you a moment to grab some belongings and change then you were on the move.
He led you on a short walk until you reached a little blue VW. Another longer drive until you reached a miserable looking warehouse. But you didn't care because then you saw him and you ran as fast as you could to Bucky, jumping into his arms and sobbing.
"Dudes on the run and he still finds a girlfriend?"
That was Sam, you learned later and apparently he and Bucky had met before, but the less said about that meeting the better.
Parting
Your heart hurt as you said goodbye to Bucky to leave with Sharon Carter. You didn't want to be away from him, or for him to be in danger. This all felt wrong and unsafe. What if you were found by the wrong people?
He pressed a kiss to your lips and took off his tags, placing them around your neck. "I'm coming back for these, and I'm coming back for you. I can make a difference and knock out Hydra just that little bit more. It's for us."
You smiled stiffly as tears clung to your eyelashes. He kisses you again and holds you tight. "I won't be long doll, I promise."
Endings
After the fight that left Bucky without his arm and damage to egos and friendships, Bucky and you were hidden in Wakanda. It was a paradise for both of you.
You were left to your own devices for a good while and you'd never felt so at peace. Mornings were spent lazily kissing each other as the sun warmed the little house you occupied. You had a small garden to tend to and Bucky herded goats. Children often came by to gawk at you, but eventually they got more involved in feeding the goats and helping you with your planting. The evenings were a mix of good food, warm fires and making love.
Eventually he was prodded to try and remove the trigger words which you added your own encouragement to. It took a lot of work and pain, but one night he was finally free. In fact you were both finally free....
(and then endgame never happens and they all live happily ever after 😫)

Eddy and Daniel found themselves comfortably seated on the Harrington couch, the warm glow of the fireplace casting a flickering light across the room. They were eager to discuss their latest venture, their faces reflecting a mix of anticipation and pride.
Daniel's eyes gleamed with excitement as he declared, "Eddy, my dear friend, it is nigh complete!" His hands shot up in the air, emphasizing his enthusiasm and drawing Eddy's undivided attention. With Eddy's curiosity piqued he responded "Is that so?"
Daniel took a swift draw from his cigar, relishing the flavor of the tobacco. "Indeed, my good friend, after months of toil and perseverance, our railway project is edging towards its culmination. The tracks we've laid extend all the way to Brindleton Bay, and presently, our sights are set on linking them together, thus broadening the scope of trade within this very region."
With a puff of smoke from his cigar, Daniel's voice trailed off as he enumerated the array of destinations. "Moonwood, Newcrest, Britechester, Granite Falls..."
Eddy watched Daniel proudly boasting, a familiar sight whenever they met. While Eddy genuinely shared in his friend's accomplishments, he couldn't quite fathom the same level of enthusiasm. In fact, he carried reservations about the repercussions this progress would bring upon their community.
Eddy let his shoulders loosen, his voice tinged with concern as he shared his thoughts. "I'm truly happy for ya, Daniel. You've worked hard, and it shows. But ain't ya concerned 'bout what this'll mean for our community? I fear it might just be a mighty waste of resources. Henford is a vast place with its own small communities, and I doubt folks would flock here for a visit. And even if they did, I can't say I'm fond of the notion of our towns gettin' too crowded. I've always been more at home in the open countryside, not amidst the bustle of a city."
Daniel shook his head, unable to grasp Eddy's perspective. "Edward, I daresay you have difficulty envisioning the transformative potential of this system in dismantling the barriers that confine communities like Finchwick to their small homes. It extends beyond the realm of international trade; it facilitates familial connections, enabling loved ones to traverse distances with greater ease and efficiency."
"No more sluggish steeds dragging wheezing carriages, my good Edward. Picture this: you step onto a grand locomotive, its iron muscles ready to propel you towards your destination. In just a matter of days, you'll find yourself comfortably reunited with your Family, traversing the miles that separate you, all for a mere $2. Remember the joy Brindleton brought you? Well, now's your chance to relive those moments!
Eddy's gaze grew distant as he fell into a moment of contemplation, his mind drifting back to the days of yore, to the cherished memories of his childhood home in Brindleton. Images of the sturdy lighthouse and the rolling waves where he once cast his fishing line danced before his eyes. Yet, as those nostalgic thoughts enveloped him, a bittersweet tide swept over his heart, carrying with it the painful weight of loss, a reminder of what had slipped through his fingers like sand.
"Nah… I reckon not," Eddy responded, his voice carrying a hint of reluctance. "I got too much on my plate right here. And young Silas, bless his heart, he's takin' care of the farm just fine. I reckon it's high time I start puttin' my mind to it and plan another house on this land, so when the boy finds his own love, he'll have a place to call his own."
Daniel reclined in his seat, accepting Eddy's stance with a nod. A brief silence lingered, carrying the weight of their divergent perspectives. While Daniel and Eddy seldom engaged in heated disputes, their contrasting views often clashed. Daniel, an optimist, saw the emergence of industrialization as a beacon of hope, while Eddy approached it cautiously, aware of its potential pitfalls.
"Indeed, I shall put it to good use," Daniel affirmed. "As Jackson matures, I am making preparations for him to engage in on-site employment in Britechester. The cost of transportation by rail is considerably lower than hiring a stagecoach, and it diminishes the likelihood of any untoward incidents, such as robbery, during the journey."
Lost in his thoughts, Eddy gazed briefly out the window. The world appeared so different from his childhood days, evolving with every passing year through technological advancements. It filled him with a sense of unease. Everything he had known since his boyhood seemed to be changing rapidly.
"Indeed, there shall be a magnificent unveiling this coming Saturday, and it would be a pleasure to have you and your family in attendance," Daniel proudly announced.
As Eddy absorbed Daniel's words, his mind wandered, his gaze fixated on the world beyond the window. The landscape before him seemed foreign, transformed by the relentless march of progress and technological marvels. It stirred a disquiet within him, a sense of unease as he witnessed the familiar giving way to the unfamiliar. Everything he had held dear since his boyhood days appeared to be changing at an alarming pace.
"Of course, we shall gladly witness your remarkable achievements, my friend," Eddy responded, his voice trailing off, his thoughts lost in the whirlwind of uncertainties.

Ok, buckle in. So I went to a high school that provided 5 years of single-sex education for girls only before throwing you aged 16 into a co-ed with the boys' school next door.
Although we had spent the years already gooning at each other through the fences, smoked pot together on the railway track and been on the same buses, the schools in their wisdom decided we needed a formal introduction to the opposite sex which comprised 2 fucking days of icebreakers.
This included standard horrors such as:
2 truths and a Lie (aka, are you a boring nobody or a weirdo)
Sit on each others laps to make a circle (aka sweatily press arses to laps and pray no one gets a woodie)
Mingle over drinks (aka clutch a plastic cup of flat supermarket coke and lurk by the wall whispering with your mates)
And the Chlamydia Disco.
The brain child behind this particular flashbulb memory was Mr B, the boys school chemisty teacher - a big shouty baldie with a disconcerting passion for imparting Sex Ed at every opportunity. The kind of prophylactic zealotry that did not scream pedo so much as knocked up his girlfriend at 16 and subsequently brought shares in Durex.
We were corralled into a sports hall and given two pieces of paper. One was a 'dance card' with 10 slots for you to write names in. The other had to be discretely unfolded to find out if you had a green dot or not, which signified you were a filthy chlamydia carrier or an innocent babe at the upcoming hedonism. You choose a minimum of 5 of the dance slots to participate in.
The Disco preceded like horrible musical chairs. The music started, you had to grab a different partner each turn, dance (read stand there withering) for a horrifying eon (read approx 60 seconds) and then when the music stopped, write down the name of your dance partner and confess if you had clyamidia or not. As you danced without a condom, you passed the germs on.
Can you please imagine being 16, forced to dance with a boy you don't know, and then announce you've given him an STD?
We could. We immediately partnered with our own friends for the first 5 turns only and refused all eye contact thereafter.
At the end of this agony, Mr B got everyone who started out diseased to stand up and be paraded as Patient Xs, and then made everyone left uninfected to put their hands up to demonstrate how much it had spread. This included me and my friends. He pointed out how the more partners you had, the greater your risk and added very pointly that my group had been lucky. He asked what we'd learned about avoiding STDs other than relying on luck.
I'm not ashamed to say my response was that it wasn't luck, it was strategy, and that starting early and sticking to lesbianism was very effective.
Anyway, that's how I ended up not studying chemistry.

Chapter Thirteen
Newt and I worked together to torch the door to the compartment open. Thomas was the first to push threw the door. Newt and I were quick to follow behind him. Harriet was close behind me.
"Aris" Thomas whispered then moved to a seat near the front.
"Hey, you guys okay?" Thomas questioned.
I stepped up behind Newt so I could see both Aris and Sonya sitting there chained to their seats.
"We're fine" Sonya nodded.
Thomas slowly continued towards that back. We all looked around at each of the faces hoping to find one in particular.
"It's okay, you guys are safe. Just hang on some more." Thomas said softly as he walked towards the back of the compartment.
"We need the bolt cutters." I heard Harriet say behind me.
Thomas stopped when he reached the back wall then slowly turned to face me and Newt.
"He's not here," Thomas said in disbelief.
"Shit" I whispered.
Newt and Thomas made their way out of the compartment while I stayed inside to help Harriet cut open all the chains. Once the kids were all free Harriet and two others led them outside to meet with Vince. I caught up with Thomas.
"What now?" I asked him quietly as we both watched the kids pass us by.
"I have no idea." He sighed.
"We'll figure something out," I whispered.
"Come on in you guys!" I heard Vince shout from around the corner.
Thomas and I stepped to the corner of the building so we could watch Vince speak to the new arrivals.
"Alright guys, listen up. I know you've all been threw hell. I wish I could say our troubles are over. We're not threw this yet. WCKD is still out there. They're not giving up. You got something they want. They took you because you're immune to a plague that's wiping out the human race. They think you're worth sacrificing to find a cure. Well, I don't." Vince spoke like the true leader he was.
The kids in front of him cheered and applauded.
"So in two days when we get this tub of rust seaworthy, we're gonna go to a place where WCKD will never find you. A place you can start over. A place you can call home." Vince continued.
Thomas turned away to head back up the path. I took one last look at Vince then quickly followed behind my brother. We walked between two of the old buildings. Thomas slowed for a moment as he caught sight of Brenda and Jorge then continued on. We walked into a room where Newt, Harriet, Aris, And Sonya were sitting. Sonya was attempting to clean the dry blood from Aris' face.
"Here drink this" Harriet said handing two cups to Sonya and Aris.
Thomas and I joined Newt to sit across from the two we'd just rescued. Fry was standing behind me. Aris took a slow sip of his drink then turned to look at Thomas.
"Took you guys long enough to rescue us," Aris said with a smile.
"It's good to see you too bud." Thomas chuckled.
"So what happened?" Thomas asked gesturing to Aris' face.
"I fought back. Tried to anyway." Aris shrugged.
"You're lucky you found us at all. They had us on the move a lot. I feel like something big was happening." Sonya said.
"Any idea where they were heading?" Newt asked them.
"All I know is they kept talking about a city," Aris said.
"I didn't think there were any cities left," Harriet said glancing at me.
"That's because there aren't. Not still standing anyway." Brenda said from behind us.
I hadn't even realized she followed us in here.
"Okay, wait, what about Minho? Why wasn't he on the train?" Thomas asked Aris.
Aris and Sonya shared a look of sadness and fear before turning back to us.
"I'm sorry Thomas. He was." Aris said slowly.
Thomas was immediately in a hurried frenzy as he dug threw some of the boxes of our supplies. He had gathered a small group of us in one of the makeshift storerooms. I stood between Newt and Fry as we watched Thomas searching for something. Vince, Jorge, and Brenda stood on the other side of the table watching Thomas as well. A few minutes passed when Thomas finally pulled something out of a box. He turned around slamming it down on the table. We all stepped closer to see an old discolored map. One area on it was circled. Thomas pointed to the circle.
"There that's it," Thomas said.
He smoothed out the map so we could all see it better.
"It's a few hundred miles. Based on the railways and everything that Aris told us that's gotta be where they're heading. That's where they're taking Minho. We take everyone that can fight. Follow the roads where we can. We can make it back in around a week." Thomas explained.
"A week? It took us six months to get here. We've got over a hundred kids here now. We can't just hang out here forever. After what we just pulled? You wanna wander off to some random point on the map? You don't even know what's there." Vince said sternly.
"I do," Jorge spoke up.
Everyone in the room turned to look at him.
"It's been a few years but I've been there. The last city. That's what WCKD called it." Jorge continued as he walked closer to the table.
"It was their home base of operations. If that city is still standing that's the last place you wanna go Hermano. That's the lion's den." Jorge said pointing at the map.
"It's nothing we haven't done before," Thomas said simply.
"Yea, with months of planning, reliable information, and the element of surprise. None of which we have now." Vince informed Thomas.
"Vince, I've thought this threw can you just hear me out?" Thomas asked quickly.
Vince raised his voice finally losing his cool with Thomas.
"Hey! The last time we went off half-cocked I lost everything! You remember that?" Vince shouted in Thomas' face.
Vince sighed then took a deep breath before continuing.
"Look, I know it's Minho. Alright? But you can't ask me to put those kids on the line for one man. I won't do it." Vince said in a calmer voice but he was still stern.
Vince and Thomas stared at each other. I glanced back at Fry who had been silently standing behind me. He gave me a knowing look. I had a feeling he knew what Thomas was going to do just like I did. The radio sitting against the wall started to crackle as distorted voices tried to speak threw it. The words were chopped here and there but we all knew what it meant.
"Shit. Get the lights." Thomas said quickly.
Every one of us scrambled to get where we needed to be. Jorge was quick to pull the lever and cut the power. Fry and I ran to the other side of the building to check everything had went out. Our whole base was now dark as the sound of aircrafts could be heard in the distance.
"They can't be that close," I whispered as Fry and I listened to the distant sounds.
I walked away from him to go outside where I found Thomas standing alone. I went over to him then turned to look in the direction he was. The aircrafts were searching the mountains in the distance. They really were getting close to us.
"You alright?" I asked Thomas.
"Fine," he said simply then walked away from me.
I knew immediately that he wasn't fine. I knew he was going to try to run off to that city even if he had to do it alone but he wasn't going to go alone. I wouldn't let that happen. I ran back inside to find Newt and Fry. They were both trying to gather things up in the dark.
"Boys, you know what we gotta do right?" I asked them.
Both boys stopped to look at me. They both held up a bag as they smiled.
"Already on it love," Newt said.
After we packed everything we needed into the bags the three of us silently went off to where the jeeps were parked.
"You two go ahead and get in. I'll wait for Tommy." Newt said as he went to lean against a table.
Fry and I climbed into the jeep. Fry took the driver seat while I climbed into the passenger seat. We sat in darkness waiting for my brother to try to sneak off by himself.
“You really up for this?” Fry asked me quietly.
“Of course I am. He’s my brother. I’m not gonna let him do anything this stupid by himself.” I chuckled softly.
“Not gonna lie I’m a little terrified but you’re right. I can’t let him, you, or Newt do this without me.” He said softly.
He grabbed the wheel then tightened his hands around it until his knuckles were white. I reached over then pulled one of his hands off the wheel. He looked at me as I wrapped both my hands around his. He gave me a small smile then seemed to relax in his seat. It wasn't long until we heard the footsteps coming up the stairs.
"Where do you think you're going then?" Newt asked through the darkness.
Thomas stopped in his tracks. Newt turned on the lamp that was on the table next to him.
"Newt" Thomas said quietly.
"Don't be a twat about it. I'm already in. Come on." Newt said as he took the bag from Thomas.
Newt walked over to the jeep then opened the back door to toss in the bags.
"No, no, not this time. Look, even if we find Minho there's no guarantee we'll make it back from this." Thomas told Newt.
Newt chuckled softly as he leaned against the jeep.
"Right, then you need all the help you can get," Newt said.
He turned then pulled open the front driver door. Fry leaned forward against the steering wheel as I leaned over his back so Thomas could see me. Thomas smiled but scoffed.
"Well, we started this together. May as well end it that way too." Newt told him.
"Okay, let's go get him back," Thomas said with a small smile.
I jumped into the back seat with Newt as Thomas took my spot. Fry pulled out slowly trying to make as little noise as he could.

Mickey McGinnes x Reader: The time Traveler
Beginning To Feel Like Hell!
(I don't own either the pictures or the characters)
It was a hot summer day, and you were currently feeling heartbroken. You unfortunately just witnessed your now ex-boyfriend on a date with some girl he swore up and down was just a 'friend', not even an hour ago while going to pick up your takeout order.
Now here you are, on your couch, trying to forget and move on by watching one of your favorite shows: Hell on Wheels.
You wish you could emerse yourself in the show, and live right alongside the characters you love. You wish you could help them, to show them your way of life, and make theirs easier. To give them your knowledge in hopes to save them.
But, alas, that could never happen. Right?
As you sit through the show, slowly snacking/eating your way through heartbreak, you find yourself wanting to at least venture out to the towns that once held the bustling railway. You think about how you need to get out into the world more often, and how you should experience what life has to offer a bit more.
Finally, the show is over with, and you've made up your mind! You think to yourself: What Do I Have To Lose?
Cullen enjoyed adventure, so why can't you?
So that night, you called into work and asked for the week off. Your boss is your older sibling, and they saw your Facebook status. They think it's best you try and find yourself on a journey, and want whatever is going to make you happy again. They grant you your time off, and you get to work on planning out your bus fare, and motel fees.
That Sunday, you packed your bags full of anything you'd need for adventure. You figure you better bring all your sexiest and cutest clothes you've got, because why not try and get back out there along the way maybe?
~~~~~~~~~~~
You wake up and get ready, as soon as you can. Don't wanna miss the bus! You put on a nice outfit, hoping to lift your spirits! (See pic above)
The first stop, is Durant, Iowa. You figure you'll start here and work your way along the railroad. By the end of the trip, you want to feel refreshed and new, having been out in the world a little bit. It takes a few bus stops here and there, but you feel confident and hopeful that maybe something might happen once you get to Durant. You could always use more friends!
Before you can check into your motel, you decide to take your things with you for a small hike in the woods near the railroad. So with two duffel bags on each arm, you follow along the tracks and take in the scenery.
As you make it near a rocky area, you come across a shiny/sparkling stone. You like that it matches your sparkly outfit, so you decide to pick it up as a keepsake. You keep walking a little farther, and find a nice rock to sit on, and plop down. Why you decided to wear heals is beyond you. There was nothing wrong with boots you guessed. However, you figured a complete look was just, better? Boy did your feet hurt though.
You sat in silence, just taking in all the beautiful scenery around you. You take out your newly found gem stone, and marvel at just how pretty it really was in the sunlight. You wondered how it would look in the moonlight...
You found yourself getting sleepy really fast all the sudden. You panicked internally, thinking you've exhausted yourself a little too much. You grab your Brita water bottle and sip on the still refreshingly cold water, hoping the cold water will re-awaken your senses. You put your water bottle away, checking your watch, feeling sleepier by the minute, only to stare wide eyed at what it was doing. You begin to the hands go backwards, and increase in pace slowly by the minute. You must be having a heart induced stroke! That's impossible for a brand new Rolex to do! Your sibling just bought it for you as a good luck gift, and now it's already broken?
You lie down on the rock, hoping it will ease your body, but you soon realise that was a mistake. You feel your body get more and more exhausted by the second. Soon you feel yourself giving in, and your eyes start to close, allowing yourself to give into the need to rest...
Author's Note: Let me know if I should continue? I do have more written! Thanks for reading this by the Way!
you do not have to apologise!! you've not bothered me :)
besides, i love getting asks!!
Sad: At the time Skimbleshanks was taken in by the train guard (conductor), the guard was on the older side and passed away three years after taking in Skimble.
The new guard was not nice at all, catching the tom and taking him to "Jellicle Jail" (animal shelter), thus making him lose his "job" as the railway cat
but let's get to our happy hc, shall we?
Happy: Skimbleshanks was adopted a few weeks after being taken to the animal shelter!! His new humans were a middle aged couple.
The husband, as Skimble soon learned, was a train fanatic!!
The couple's basement was filled with model trains and even had a whole model train station (track and all) that actually moved!!
Skimble spends his days riding around on the model trains, much to the amusement of his humans!!
Bedroom/House: The inside of his and Jenny's den (the car!) definitely has a 70s vibe!!
Family: Skimble didn't know his biological parents, them leaving him at the train station alone after being caught by an animal catcher.
But, he did have two wonderful adoptive mums (my ocs Sabina and Cualli) at the junkyard who took care of him every chance they could!!
Friendship: He has been a big brother figure to Asparagus Jr for as long as he could remember, the younger tom genuinely means so much to him!
Quirks/Hobbies: Putting together model trains!!
Likes: Bees. I can't entirely give a reason for it but I feel he would just adore bees. He also really likes putting together scavenger hunts for the kits!!
Dislikes: He hates muppets. Absolutely hates them.
Childhood: As I already mentioned, Skimble was raised by the lesbians of the junkyard!! They gave him every chance they could to let him do what he wanted, letting him make his own choices to learn right from wrong for himself!!
Old Age/Aging: As Skimble got older (starting a few years after the '98 proshot took place), he started to develop Alzheimer's.
As his Alzheimer's got worse he forgot a decent amount and also fell into a bad depression.
However, he never forgot his kits (Mungo and Teazer) and he never forgot Jenny!!
