Dead Boy Detectives - the core four

I wanted this to be a purely aesthetic post, but in the process of making the gifs I've had some thoughts, so here you go: Seeing the core four's "action shots" all side by side made me realise that they each kind of represent their character's journey as well.

We've got Charles, who is taking back control, hitting back. He acts as the protector he would have needed when he was alive, but also he is defending and protecting someone close to him, no longer helpless in the face of abuse and violence. And his strength comes from a point of defense, not aggression like his father. He's very much not a bad guy, but the literal hero of the shot.

Then there's Edwin running from a WWI soldier and going through the looking glass, jumping from one world to the next, pushing through his own reflection (and how people have bullied and killed him for perceiving him as effeminate and queer) and finding his queerness on the other side, landing on his own two feet, balanced and steady, having found this whole new world of feeling and acceptance on the other side. Edwin, my beloved.

Crystal (aaahhh I could write a thesis on Crystal, honestly) who is being thrown off balance and into limbo, existing between two lives while she is searching for her stolen memories. She's is constantly being pulled in two directions, between her past and her future, between David the demon and the cute ghost distraction, between letting go of toxic relationships and embracing her new found family.

Ok and if you're still reading, here's another thing I noticed while making these "action shot" gifs - both Charles and Edwin are very much agents of these actions in their shots, while things are done to Crystal and Niko. Charles throws and catches the cricket bat, initiating and controlling the action. Edwin jumps through the mirror, he is the one who maneuvers himself through. But Crystal is pushed by David, falls through the floor, off balance and out of control, and she is caught by Charles. And Niko is being lifted up by the sprites who have taken control of her body. I think it's a neat way to show a gendered division within the core four, but also both girls move beyond their initial helplessness/passiveness and become real freaking badasses, while the boys later on get their fair share of having things happen to them instead. And in the season finale it's Crystal and Niko who save our two ghost damsels in distress. I don't know where I'm going with this, it was just something I noticed and I thought you guys might have some more eloquent and coherent thoughts.

The pastel tones matched with the grey stockings for contrast, that beret and the fuzzy hem boots, you just know she shops at Takashimaya and Isetan and anything below it will just not do 👏🏻 Plus Sora and Mimi are wearing the same tones, which probably means that they pre-planned the outfits together, cuties!!! Also Crepe is such a Mimi™️ choice of dessert but I always get teary eyes when I see Palmon mimic Mimi's gestures, there is just so much love and admiration between them for each other, pure childish wonder 💚 And the crepe even has a cutesy character face on it, which kinda looks like Monzaemon, though I can't be sure but if it is then another win for a subtle reference. Not to mention both Yamato and Mimi look like they've dressed in a more cool and elegant style than the rest like they might be on their way to a date THE MIMAT MATH IS MATHING YALLL!!!

Hikari looks super cute, I think there isn't much official art of her in casual clothing for OG stuff so it's nice to see her in a more cutesy fit suited to her age. The hairband matching the cardigan is such a nice touch!! I can't recall any other casual outfit for OG design Hikari except the War Game and Memorial Party dress, so I think this would be the first time we see Hikari with a hairband and it just looks adorable. Of course she is sharing an ice cream with Tailmon, it's kinda their brand now but like Takeru she's making a surprised expression, perhaps she wasn't expecting Tailmon to offer her a bite of her ice cream?

To conclude, this is probably the best OG artwork we've gotten since Idk maybe the Rainy Day stationery series. This will be sold in advance at the Kamio Store booth at Anime Japan 2024. No other details were mentioned, but the event booth sale feels like a pre-sale before the goods become available more widely at other outlets, hopefully, at some stores that international fans have access too as well.

my first assumption right now is that the demon king power is just an in-world power system while everything else (ie the weather forecasting) is external, blue-textbox system. maybe? so lloyd got the demon king power which comes with skills separate from the ones that the system can provide? that would explain why there's no indication of lloyd trying to use the weather forecasting, he probably can't use it,,,? except i dont know why artanis can use it in that case. most likely i am overthinking it LMFAO

some other thoughts of note that i had with a dear mutual (hi sprout :3) about this ep:

we were talking about how the plot seems to be paced right now, and honestly i'm of the opinion that while yes its Technically moving, the way they're ending each ep in this current arc makes it feel like it's going both very slow and very fast, that is to say it feels like it's not moving at all

bc they're like "okay NOW we're gonna do the build project" and it's been like that for several episodes now. pieces are moving but we're going past the point of it all too fast (especially the whole demon king thing. mentioned this before but while cool, doesn't feel as earned simply bc we're both tackling each point and yet blowing past all the points, so it's a lot less satisfying than it should be (despite how awesome it is,,, oh lloyd you give me so much internal conflict </3))

it does make me a lil worried that they're gonna timeskip the hell out of the pantara railroad build. however this episode, although it still has a weird pacing/movement issue, does feel a little bit better than the last two imo, so i have hope that it'll turn out okay, that it'll start heading up! i'm actually really excited to see where they go with this and i'm sure that even if the pacing is still goofy i'll have some kind of fun with it (seriously the panels this ep were wonderful HAHA)

I'm a huge fan of your writing, I basically binged all of your content on AO3 and was very excited to find out that you also have a Tumblr! The way you write Silco is just *chef kiss* the perfect amount of that cold calculating dominating presence that he exudes mixed with the softer side of him that we've seen with Jinx that we can reasonably assume he would show to his other loved ones and those most important to him.

Anyways not sure if you're taking ideas, if not then either ignore this part or just enjoy the idea for what it is *shrugs* but I just can not get this idea out of my head, basically reader is a tailor who has kind of made a small name for herself with her work and Silco just so happens to need a new tailor. When he catches word of her and her work he takes a visit to her shop or summons her for a consultation. Of course anyone who is anyone knows of Silco so when reader either sees him enter her shop or is sent to his office she is immediately intimidated but also can't deny how ridiculously attractive he is. Of course Silco being Silco immediately picks up on this and being the smug bastard that he is when reader is hesitant to take his measurements because of the close and intimate proximity she would need to do so she's like damn he's attractive but also if I fuck this up I might die...I can just picture him toying with her and teasing her in that very Silco way of his and saying things like "what's the matter? I don't bite", ect.

I'm sorry this message got so long winded, and also sorry if this is a bother, but I just had to let you know how phenomenal your writing is and also couldn't help but share my idea as well. Anyways I hope you have an amazing night and I look forward to your other work!

And he's getting married to one of big mom daughters. You were puzzled by this. ThenVito whispered something into Sanji's ear, a shocked Sanji asked Capone Bege how they knew that.

Bege called that a silly question, telling Sanji that Big Mom possesses unfathomable power and influence, allowing her to find out and do anything she wants.

Sanji asked bege to give pen and paper to write. Bege obliged, and Sanji wrote a note on the paper before handing it to Nami. You don't know what the note was.

He told his chained crewmates that he never expected to deal with this part of his heritage and that he needed to go and sort things out by himself.

Sanji came to you and others. He gave all of you a big hug. You still don't quite understand, but sanji hurling you guys out of Bege's body.

Nami, Chopper, and Brook returned to normal size and hit the ground. You saw bege body getting away. You didn't want to leave sanji.

So you follow him, "(Y/N), don't go!" Nami shouts, but you ignore her, and you went inside bege body. Sanji was shocked when you came back. You kill bege soldiers.

Then you taken to a room, deep room. Sanji notices this and asks his father where he's taking you. You're in the room where all the germa soldiers were made, "lay down here," one the soldiers said.

You laid down on the bed, and they strap you. You don't know what's happening, then you saw one of the soldiers has medium needles connected to a big glass of bucket.

They were about to take your blood, and the soldiers grabbed your dragon arm. Warp a tourniquet on your arm, then stick the needles inside your arm. You let a huge scream, then get yourself free.

The soldiers tried to calm down but started killing them, and now the floor is covered with blood. "(Y/N) gone out of control! Repeat! She gone o- Aaahhh!!"

I recently got obsessed with Off Valley (AGAIN;;;) since I finally decided to try out Stardew Valley for the first time, and now I am filled with so much curiosity about Off Valley's potential mechanics!

I really would like to know more about the incorporation of Off's original concepts, like, do we get to fight specters too? Or maybe become friends with them so they'll get to help out at the farm! Do we have to take care of cows only to produce meat like in the original game, or can we decide to only produce and sell milk (I am getting too concerned about animal shaped pixels, oh dear--) and keep the cows at the farm?

I am also curious about the romance! (aren't we all at this point?) Is it only about gift giving like most games until they confess, or do we have a visual novel kind of system with special endings? Aaahhh, this would be so cute, I would love to know what specific items or choices would make the characters fall in love with the player!

As for cows, it's up to you. Yes, they need to be taken cared of. I imagine you could sell milk, but as advertised, meat is going to be an important part of the game. Different types of meat/quality = money.

I'd love to have a skill tree for different farming categories, like the plastic products, dairy products, and butchering. (Maybe there could be an opt out option for this.)

Romance, yes! I'd love to incorporate some visual novel cutscenes, it would be so fun to see what route all of you will take. I'm currently juggling the idea of what gifts each character would like to get them to fall in love with you. I can't say what, no spoilers. :)) !

Has the calmest reaction of all the boys. Is quite happy to be having a child of his own. Pretty prepared for what's to come and generally remains calm throughout. Is noticeably more gentle when hugging you.

His initial reaction: "I'm gonna have a kid?!". His reaction following that: "I'm gonna have a kid!! Hell yea!". Nervous as hell, maybe more so than you, but also just as excited. He's gonna go tell Saejima right away too.

Saejima Taiga

A mix between Kiryu and Majima's reactions. He's happy, frankly overjoyed, at the prospect of a family but he is worried. He hopes he can be a good father and a good partner to you in the process.

Akiyama Shun

Honestly, he's kind of like "Well... that was going to happen at some point". He's not against the idea of kids so don't take it personally if his reaction is kind of middling. It's honestly just something he expected to happen eventually with a long term partner. Takes it entirely in stride but is nervous deep down.

Surprised but isn't shell shocked. If anything, his reaction is to start getting serious about his work and finances. He'll start caring more about his health too and say stuff like "I gotta do better if I wanna be a good dad!". His dedication is admirable.

Probably has the loudest reaction of all the boys. He is EXCITED. Ryuji doesn't seem like a family guy but the thought of having a little kid running around just gets him happy, he can't explain it. Maybe it's just because he loves you so much. Hope you're ready for an Omi celebration too.

Openly nervous about it. He is excited by the prospect of having a family but he has a lot of worries as to whether or not he should. A lot of it has weird ties to his own childhood and Kazama. He'd never fault you for it as he knows this is something he has to deal with but you'll catch him mulling over it now and then.

Overjoyed. There's no other word for it. Out of all the boys, Daigo is the one that's always actually wanted a family ever since he took over the Tojo Clan. Unlike Ryuji, he'd keep the celebrations private with you as he sees this time as deeply intimate for the both of you.

Calm on the outside, panicking on the inside. Mine honestly never had expectations for romance let alone having a family but now that both are happening, it's one of the few times he's genuinely had no idea what to do. Kind of freaking out about it. How's he going to support a family? How does one even have a family? How are babies made? The man's brain is emptying as we speak. Tim is such a fun character, but I do find him more personally relatable, and I find Jason more personally attractive, fjdslfjsa so YEAH. YOU'RE SO RIGHT. My motto is, as ever, "Tim Drake gets what I want, and what I want is Jason Todd" so while I find writing Tim POV to be the most comfortable, I find Jason more fun to obsessively write about. I think about Jason a lot because, to me, Tim is also thinking about Jason a lot U_U You can really see the turning point where I started thinking about Jason as a character more fjdlsfjafd

Jason is so cool (/literary /he's actually a dork). He has a lot of mixed emotions and motives and confusing traumas and life events to navigate. His death is one of THE most important moments in comic book history, a decisive turning point in tone and theme, and people just can't help themselves when it comes to him and that moment (and the crowbars. christ. how many times are we going to hand jason a crowbar and expect him to want to use it fdjslfsa I DIGRESS).

You can write Jason a lot of ways, because how do you even react to that? How do you even come to terms with your literal death and resurrection and the messy mcfreaking history you left behind and then came back to? It's believable when Jason is edgy and sexy and volatile, THE Bad Boy of the already Bad Boy Batman franchise - but it's equally believable when he's just a scared, secretly dorky kid who came back to a family that moved on without him, his murderer still out there and killing people who aren't lucky (?) enough to have cosmic connections. Even better to me when he's both lol
