aro culture is getting really annoyed with the relationships unit in your sociology class because the whole thing is just 100% amatonormativity.
:\
if think your teacher, professor, and/or TAs might be interested in discussing the concept, I have some idea of bringing up the topic?
I'd personally say something like, "Hi, During our section in sociology around relationships, I couldn't help but think it would be interesting to discuss how a sociological theory called "amatonormativity" might relate to these lessons. I gathered a few sources from the professor who coined it, a thesis written on it, and a law review written about the connection between it and laws in the USA. There's some connections between its use in feminist thought and in queer theories, and I'd love to know your thoughts about it. I personally was thinking of when [specific statement] was said, and how I would apply this theory. I hope it's as interesting to you as it is to me."

my experience being a Belos fan (who wants to kick his ass) is constantly being reminded that not everyone went through the process of becoming consciously aware of and working to shed the specific horrible mental state one uses to justify allowing/enacting harm against the people one loves. And therefore not everyone can just look Philip in his sad dead eyes and Understand with wretched clarity what went so terribly, odiously wrong in there.

Dunno what's so baffling in saying that teens need to have their conservative beliefs challenged
Conservative teens become conservative adults and we now have 21+ year olds that regurgitate boomer ideals because they've been unchallenged and encouraged by the environment they've been in
You see teens as little children who still don’t understand what they’re repeating and lack common sense, give them some credit

do you have any thoughts on the story of abraham and isaac? my parents talk about it and praise abraham for being willing to kill his son which..... scares me to say the least, and i'd love to hear your perspective as someone who seems more well-adjusted
Where I am now, it disgusts me more than anything. The interpretation of "I'm willing to sacrifice your life if I was told to" feels like the step before "I put you into this world and I can take you out of it." It's entitlement to a child, who is an independent individual, just because they are dependent on you for survival. I prefer the interpretation of understanding the actions you're taking and the reasons why (like how there's multiple religions that don't eat pork because it was so unsafe to eat at the time), especially if it's at someone else's expense.
Where I was in the thick of it all, it gave me morbid comfort that scares me now. I had fantasies of being a martyr for the church and the idea of being the next Isaac was just so appealing. Being a hand-selected sacrifice chosen by the Good Lord Himself? Sign me the fuck up, babey!
I think if I admitted that to my family, they'd be horrified.
It's another one of those stories or beliefs where I think the majority of christians just regurgitate what they've heard. It's a point of pride and devotion, but there's no personal reflection or cross-cultural awareness of it. Lean not unto your own understanding and whatnot. It's the potential that scares me the most, like the Quiverfull movement with the Duggars or Turpins. I'm sure there's stories now, but I can't remember them off the top of my head
(Also I will be telling my therapist someone on Tumblr called me "more well-adjusted" thank you anon)

it's getting cold + snowing in my city and I am so fucking angry because this year cops have evicted more encampments then we can ever remember them doing in like the past five years. it keeps happening when we're going to do outreach + mobile syringe exchange and we'll drive past the spots we always go to and our neighbors are just gone, because in the middle of the night without announcing it cops evicted everyone. and like they've been doing this shit for years but it is so much worse this year. they've put in so much more new anti homeless and anti sex work architecture this year and even though there's some rad ppl fucking it up, there's still so much. and i'm just fucking livid every time we go out there for overnight outreach and all my sex worker friends tell me how much more cops are harassing them this year like. fuck this shit so much. stop criminalizing survival. we keep losing track of so many ppl because of this and we keep having to wonder who's alive and who died bc the cops trashed their tent and it's fucking below freezing outside. we lost four people in october and november who were murdered for being trans sex workers and it's just. there is so much grief and there is so much anger and i want to tear it all down

it's so telling when someone says radical feminism is "white woman shit" and you bring up the fact that in many places such as africa or asia, the only feminism that prominently exists is radical feminism, and for those places it's just considered regular feminism that you get told those women live in places that aren't progressive enough for them to understand their actions properly. to say these women are too dumb to realize that their beliefs are "bad" simply because they don't align with western mainstream liberal feminism is rooted in xenophobia and racism, not to mention a lack of understanding of the struggles and violence women from these countries regularly go through, which can range anywhere from fgm to men rubbing and wiping their cum on the back of women's clothes in trains. but of course, as usual, there's no intelligent response to this so you just end up getting blocked or get rape wished on you.
