really the mandalorian season 3 did not do half as well as it needed to justify making season 4 into a whole lore-dependent movie with a big theatrical release, and asking people to go to the theater is an entirely different commitment than asking them to watch your 45min slop over breakfast, but i’m gonna let lucasfilm realize that on their own time 👍

Generally speaking I feel like all of the mcu tv shows and specials have been better than the movies

Almost like if you give the creative teams more space and freedom to make stories they actually care about and aren’t as concerned about appealing to as large of an audience as possible or prioritizing the connecting it to a larger story over the story itself, then that makes the stories better

which is sort of but not really tied into why i’m sort of ???? about the particular kind of fic writers that will write like. Exclusively niche stuff that they enjoy specifically (rarepairs, weirds AUs, specific kinks) and then get upset that they don’t get much interaction in comments or kudos. like, my guy, this is what we signed up for when we wrote the ship only three people know about. you can’t be upset that you’re not raking in hundreds of clicks when you specifically chose to do the unpopular thing you were interested in. it’s fine not to have a lot of attention, you gotta get used to it happening, even if you think you worked real hard on a fic and it deserves it.

Sorry, sorry but I can’t get over this. A lot of Veilguard critical posts talk about how the bad guys are just one dimensional bad guys and how it doesn’t even make sense that they’re working together.

And like, you might not like the explanation, but it’s just inaccurate to not say it’s there. Because guys, it happens in D’meta’s Crossing with the mayor. The gods are gods. They have mind altering powers. Which is, both literal and in the text and metaphorical in the subtext as like a (really basic) meditation on the hypocrisy of certain movements who claim they have values but demonstrably only want power. Ie: all the republicans who didn’t support trump until it was politically convenient. 

But, Lemon, you say, that’s boring. Ok, I mean you can find it thus. I think it’s a very very basic critique. But hey man, Dragon Age’s track record with complexity is usually centrist bullshit so I’ll take this happily.

Coz like. Are you forgetting that we all fucking hated the moral “complexity” of the mage/templar stuff? Coz I do. And no thank you to more of that.

I don’t think one dimensional villians are a bad thing. I don’t think pointing out a lack of depth in the villians is anything other than an observation. And you just not liking something or not vibing with it isn’t a real complaint. Sometimes I order at a resturant food I don’t like, that’s not the chefs problem and it would be weird of me to act like it is.

Veilguard isn’t really dealing with politics, which frankly thank goodness, they’ve never been good at that. It’s trying to talk about the nature of regret and more psychological things. Again nothing there is really deep, but nothing there is wrong. Which I’ll take. Usually I have to just ignore the politics in these games. And I don’t come to AAA games for their nuance political opinions, I come for a fireworks and a fun story that creates a world I can play in.

people like hannibal because it’s not so fucking exhausting. more and more books and tv shows and movies are being put out by millennials and gen z who are constantly obsessed with making sure that everything is morally correct. that their characters are morally correct. who are constantly worried about perpetuating this or romanticizing that. in other words just trying to push purity culture and making fiction absolutely fucking dull because people absolutely refuse to separate reality from fiction. and sometimes you just need an interesting character like hannibal lecter who manipulates people for fun, try to use his power as a psychiatrist to push people to their edge, and eats people because they’re rude. and is 100% unapologetic about it.
