Generally speaking I feel like all of the mcu tv shows and specials have been better than the movies
Almost like if you give the creative teams more space and freedom to make stories they actually care about and aren’t as concerned about appealing to as large of an audience as possible or prioritizing the connecting it to a larger story over the story itself, then that makes the stories better

Meanwhile With Tommy And Kamran (Part 5)
Parts: 1, 2, 3, and 4
"Is there a witch in this house?" Kamran asked, the glowing wall covered in writing blocking the stairs vanishing as he backed away from it.
"Uh, no witches," Rebecca said, trying to think rationally. "But- uh- William must have picked up something authentic from some shady store. He's- he's obsessed with witches."
"Are... you a witch?" Jeff asked.
"Not exactly," Kamran tried to explain with a grimace, "I'm half-interdimensional being from beyond a veil made of wish magic from my mother's side. Witches are regular humans with an affinity for magic, to hear my mother explain it."
Well, so glad that that distinction was made.
"When William comes back, I'm going to have him look through his stuff and deal with whatever is causing this," Jeff decided, "And maybe see if any other genuine magic stuff is in there. This could be a serious safety hazard."
"But where is he?" Rebecca asked worriedly. She hadn't seen him since last night, when he had taken the car out to visit Eddie, and she couldn't help but wonder if maybe she should have asked more questions.
"Well, if you can't go upstairs, there's an guest washroom off from the dining room," Jeff suggested to Kamran. "There's no shower, but should be enough for you to clean up."
Kamran nodded jerkily, "Sure. Okay."
Rebecca reached for her phone, ready to try another round of calling both William and Eddie. Except before she could reach for their contacts, the phone began to buzz with an incoming call.
From an unknown number.
She picked it up with shaky fingers and pressed it close to her ear, "Yes? Who is this?"
"Uh... you called me, like, an hour ago?" a hesitant voice said from the other side. A boy, mid-teens from the sound of it. Jersey accent. No one she recognized. He was still talking. "If this is about the Circle Q, the place is still being repaired from the attack. I'd give you any refund that you want, but I'm kind of dealing with something very upsetting right now-"
But she had given the phone to Kamran, to call people he trusted.
"Are you a friend of Kamran's?" she asked, hoping that finally something good would come out of this awful situation.
Something clattered on the stranger's side of the call. "K-Kamran? Uh... can't confirm. Do you have a last name or something?"
His voice was strained. He definitely recognized it. And he was hiding it too. Of course he was, there was a federal agency all around this town, hunting for the boy.
"I don't, because he said he doesn't have one. But I can tell you he's in trouble, and he needs help. And that he was hoping you would give him that."
Silence, then a shaky breath. "Yeah, that's the guy I was thinking of. Can I talk to him, ma'am?"
"I need a name, first," she demanded.
"It's Bruno Carrelli."
She looked it up on Jeff's phone while he and Tommy both pretended to not eavesdrop on Kamran's call. The name came up with varied results, but when in combination with the Circle Q, a clearer picture formed.
News articles came first. From local Jersey City news sites and blogs, mostly. Talking about a bombing at a convenience store called the Circle Q. Bruno Carrelli was noted to be the manager of the place. The bombing was linked to a sighting of the local hero Ms Marvel on the rooftop at the same general time.
There was a minor scandal of a weaponized Stark drone donated to Damage Control being found there, with sources labeling it responsible. DODC issued a statement rebutting that.
Rebecca couldn't help but draw comparisons to Kamran's crystal construct powers, and the ones that Ms Marvel had, from what she had seen on the news.
An individual who was retroactively identified as Ms Marvel had been identified fleeing the scene where Kamran and his group had been arrested, too.
But her investigations into this would have to be put on hold as bright blue crystals suddenly sprung out of the ground around Kamran, reacting to his emotions. "They attacked her house?!"
[Fun Fact: The Marvels and Agatha All Along canonically happen in the same month, with the mcu wiki putting the climax of the movie the day before Agatha starts recruiting for the Witches' Road]
[Also, maybe like, three parts more of this series? a kamran pov showing the rest of that phone convo, a tommy pov with the fallout and an end to this longass day, and a billy pov of his return from the trial the next morning]

I just finished ms. marvel the show for the first time. so short answer is: wowwww but long answer is: it has some positives and negatives.
Let’s start with negatives.
Changing Kamala’s powers. I know kamala isn’t as popular as some long time heroes but embegging is her whole gimmick! It’s like if someone took Peter Parker and gave him the powers of a snail and was called snail-man. And her powers are so cool too. I was so excited to see CGI stretching and polymorphic powers, you can do the hands part via literally iPhone camera, how could the whole marvel budget didn’t cut it?? No we got to have… light, for some reason. I’m just scared that other adaptation are going to do the same like in some new comics or games or something, I really, really hope not
Misrepresentation. This one is debatable, because as Muslim, the bar we have for American shows to represent us isn’t even on the floor, it’s lower, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that they didn’t 100% mess it up. But still there are so many minor technicalities, that might seem minor for someone outside of the religion/culture but for those are part of it, it’s a really big deal. Like some scenes, doing wudu with nail polish on, posting in the masjid, a dad telling his son to stop praying, so many words used in the wrong context, the whole djinn concept just shows that there was no Muslim opinion taken into consideration during filming.
the so many love interests. Like, 3, seriously, one wasn’t enough?? There shouldn’t even be one, but I digress. And just all the scenes involving the romantic subtext of each one literally made my blood boil. Literally this whole point could summarised to just the boys, they were so unnecessary.
And now let’s get to the positives, because despite the points made previously, I really enjoyed this show.
The representation. As I said before, it’s perfect, but it’s not bad. Then again, the only thing we share is us being Muslim. I’m Arab where kamala is Pakistani and these things heavily affect how people practice Islam, and also I live in a Muslim, Arab country where almost everyone is Muslim where kamala live the US, a place where she’s a minority. So of course there will be differences between our experiences. But I love how many arabic phrases were spoken during the show, the Eid scene, the masjid scene, the whole wedding episode. It was all so good and nice and representative.
My favourite thing about the show honestly is how artistic and stylised it is. They weren’t very consistent with it, but it was still good. All the different fonts and styles for the ms marvel intro was so amazing, I want to screenshot every frame. The credits are so well done too. When they want to show how daydreamy kamala is and there’s doodles around and different pieces of media incorporated in that. It was all so creative. The intro captain america scene was one of my top 5, to be honest
I love the costume design, especially kamala’s. They were all so modest, obviously. But they also showed Kamala’s personality, through her drawing and patches and just the colours and everything. They were so many stars and bolts, It’s just so similar to how I dress.
The progression of her relationship with her mom. I genuinely think that there’s no greater or stronger or closer bond between two people in this whole wide world than between a mother and her eldest daughter, and this show is only one of the many many examples of that. And it’s so relatable and realistic, like her mom being overprotective and hovering because that’s the result of generational trauma and how her mom was too distant, and she was just doing her best and just wants the best for her daughter and Kamala is such a sweet girl. So many of their scene together made my heart melt.
Centralising not just family, but the matriarchs in the family was such a smart move. because mothers truly are the ones who make families and heritage and everything is always tied back to them. Something something the souls of mothers residing in their daughters. The whole partition train episode had me bawling my eyes out.
The rest is just some things I love about kamala generally in every adaptation/timeline/universe
I just really love how unapologetically nerdy and dorky kamala is. She’s such a fangirl, she loves comics and superheros (usually women) and of course captain marvel. And she engages in that, she draws and make projects and her whole room is decorated in what interests like her. I just really love people like that, both fictional and in real life. (I may be projecting but I feel like it’s giving adhd, like it’s giving hyperfixation.)
Showing the brown girl experience of idolising older white women and wishing that we could do everything they do, but still believing that we can’t because of a variety of reasons but then overcoming that and doing the things you wanna do your way anyway
Just how good kamala is. She’s so polite but still speaks her mind respectfully. She helps people all the time even when she doesn’t have to. she’s always so nice and sympathetic to everyone. And even though she can become a giant, that is her greatest strength because people always want to repay her goodness and they always want to help her back. And it’s just so heartwarming.

Going back to my post suggesting that Oscar Isaac and Mena Massoud should play father and son, I've been thinking...
Iman Vellani as the little sister
Tumblr media
Mena Massoud as the oldest sibling
Tumblr media
And finally.... Oscar Isaac as their dad
Tumblr media
It doesn't have to be for the live action Aladdin sequel (though the idea of Aladdin having a sibling this whole time sounds like an interesting plot point, he'd be an amazing older brother). I just think this family dynamic looks adorable.

tbh tbh I'm not at all surprised that Kamala's great-grandfather told Sana that Aisha was a djinn. Woman showed up in a field of flowers, had a kid with him, gave that kid a glowing bangle, then disappeared forever. Literally the most djinn shit imaginable.

DONT listen to redditors when they tell you a good jumping off point to get into spiderman comics is Superior!! they are lying to you!! not even as a dig at superior spiderman, as much as i love making fun of it it's a good comic run
but I can't imagine recommending the one where Peter gets freaky friday-ed into a dying doc ock's shriveled body and then proceeds to die in said shriveled body as Doc Ock fucks around in Spiderman's body. and you have to read dying wish which is honestly a pretty dense 5 issue run leading up to Superior Spider-Man on its own, filled with characters that you won't have encountered unless you've been reading asm up to that point (be honest how many of you have even heard of horizon labs.) But then the first like 5ish issues of ssm Doc Ock just tries to get with MJ and also it is HEAVILY SUGGESTED to that doc ock has feelings for May. In Peter's Body. And the whole time Peter is just stuck as a ghost watching doc ock SORT OF FLIRT WITH HIS AUNT IN HIS BODY ? and I'll stop here. but in no world would I suggest maybe one of the most absurd spiderman comics (sure it's no sins of the past but come on) to someone who has only seen the movies or the cartoons, and wants to get into the comics. I get that it's like a fan favorite but come on!!
anyway here's what id recommend people read if they want to Spiderman:
Obviously ASM is the main title and if youre really committed to being in the know on spiderman, it's definitely The place to go. But also it has 900+ issues and it can hard to find a good starting place.
I don't hate the 2022 run as much as some people do (totally reasonably btw there's some choices I'm not crazy for eithsr), and since it's the ongoing run there's not as much you'd have to read to be caught up. A lot of it is little 3-4 issue self contained stories! There's only fifty-threeee (?) issues out rn so plenty to read but not as daunting as the almost One Thousand Issues that lay before you and a near 60+ year run. I also hear the 2012 run is pretty good but I've only read a few issues here and there of that one so I cannot speak to it myself lol
Another series that's not too long but still has plenty there: Deadpool/Spider-Man! has two fan favorites and absolutely plenty of wacky comic antics. The first big plotline isn't the best but the character moments more than make up for it. Only 50 issues so not too bad! Plus, the run is over so you won't be trying to catch up (im hoping they revive it <-self delusion)
Avenging Spider-Man is another good jumping off point imo! It's a team-up series that will point you to ongoing plotlines without dragging you into them, so if one happens to strike your fancy you can go find those comics to read that storyline. It's fun, heartfelt, and self contained (for the most part). Can you tell I like team up stories yet.
For individual issues you can read completely standalone:
Deadpool annual #2 (2013)
Avenging Spider-Man #4
Amazing Spider-Man #248
Daredevil #8 & #9 (2016) (two issues ik im cheating, trust me though)
And if you're just looking to get into comics in general, here's a couple stand alone miniseries that I really like (all 10 issues or less!)
Gwenpool Strikes Back (spiderman is in this one!)
Hawkeye: Freefall (spideys here too!!)
Defenders 2017 (he's not here though... as far as I can remember)
(also you can find all of these online! (for free ;)) at readcomicsonline.li but for the love of god don't use that site if you don't have an ad blocker)
