Escapism
noun
the tendency to seek distraction and relief from unpleasant realities, especially by seeking entertainment or engaging in fantasy ♡
You had known all about this during your short lifespan, as a child you’d often play pretend with your sister that you were movie stars living in a five star hotel rather than the shitty busted up apartment on the wrong side of town. Escapism came in, many forms. It was often a way for people to cope psychologically, simply because sometimes, facing the reality of your situation can be too much for one person to handle mentally.
Or at least, that was the topic of your lecture today in class. The human mind always fascinated you. Even at the young tender age when your mom died and you watched your once cozy little family fall apart piece by piece until nothing was left in its wake.
It was your fascination that drove you now for most things, why? Why, why, why? You always wondered what the motive was behind someone’s actions, not only thing but you wanted to  understand them better, to try and sympathize. You were already fairly intuitive in nature. It wasn’t difficult to read people. In fact your line of work made it easy, you’d watch a man who would be excited to be with you reach for his left finger as if used to touching something. A wedding band perhaps?
The lowlife cheater was fairly common in a whore house after all. Or the man who had been pissy this morning behind you in line because you had decided to try something new on the menu and you weren’t fast enough, obviously because he was tardy and woke up late, his shirt unbeknownst to him was button the wrong way and his tie loose and even the way his hair fell were all signs of being late to work.
It was the little things you noticed in people’s facial expressions, the way they moved and spoke. You could read people like a book, and sure sometimes it was useful. But you often wished you weren’t so perceptive. It drove you mad knowing when a potential love interest was no longer interested through a simple text or a friend not wanting to talk by their tone. Sometimes you wished you could just blot it all out, still, you lived like this day in and day out, you were used to this kind of thing and honestly. Friends? Love? Your gaze dropped a little to your feet, the pumps you were wearing a jet black and the heel too high for any respectable woman to ever wear.
...It wasn’t like you ever had any of those in your life and you had struggled to come to terms with the fact that you could survive without that kind of support. Still...it made you envious, the couple happily holding hands on the sidewalk. The group of friends all laughing at a table while they studied. Oftentimes these feelings are muted, but when you’re faced with something you’ve always craved, those muted feelings suddenly become hyperactive in your mind.
It’s pathetic, honestly.
“How dare you! You disgusting slut!”
In this moment however, you were brought back to reality at just what was happening, you squeaked loudly as you dodged the shoe the woman had thrown at you. This was all a regular occurrence, you had a lot of regulars who weren’t the most amazing people but hey, money was money. But along with them they also left a trail which their wives and girlfriends always followed. And then they always blamed you instead of their partner for leaving them for a prostitute despite you never having agreed to anything such as that.
It really wasn’t your fault, you were just trying to make a living while juggling with keeping up your own education, paying your fathers debts, rent and still somehow getting food on the table. What part time college job could provide that?
Prostitution wasn’t a job you would’ve gone into willingly but given the past and your trauma that was already laced in it you had been learning that sometimes because of the trauma we experience, sometimes people go back to that same trauma and actively participate in it as a way of feeling like they’re in control.
That whatever happened before, would never happen again if you were in control. You weren’t sure if you qualified under this category, trauma came in many forms but the one most used as an example in your class was that a study showed that women who were assaulted often develop a kink for consensual non consent as a way of coping with what happened, except this time, it’s in a controlled environment where it can end the moment they want it too.
Again, you weren’t sure you fell into this category, but you often wondered if your line of work was intertwined with your earlier memories when you were younger, if anything it brought comfort to you. Much of it, blotted out now simply because your mind couldn’t take it. Trauma expressed through amnesia was also much more common than many thought, and it’s so small, so easy to miss. After all how can you be aware of something if you have no memory of it anymore?
“Security!” Your manager screeched, two of the bodyguards were already between you and the feral woman who was ready to gut you clean as she screamed hysterically, her husband...your regular....at her side trying to get her to calm down only for her to come to her senses and slap him clean across the face. You didn’t condone violence, but he did have it coming...
You weren’t about to justify cheaters, you couldn’t imagine the hurt someone had to feel that not only did their partner cheat on them, but it was with someone...like you...You had been trying not to put down your job occupation, sex workers were just as valid as anyone else...you knew you would’ve thought this way if it was anyone but you in this position.
You sighed as you ran your hands through your hair, watching the couple get dragged out of the tight space of the brothel, “Jesus christ....didn’t you say you stopped using perfume because of this?” Miki, your manager sighed as she crossed her arms. You didn’t want to say your manager was your friend but she was the closest you had as you’d often complain to her about most of your problems. Sex work often attracted broken people, it wasn’t something she wasn’t used to.
“Yeah, but apparently he never got around to washing his clothes…” You wiped your mouth on the back of your hand, “Lipstick stain,” You glanced down at the ruby pink color that stained your skin now, “Fuck...that did hurt.” You rubbed your sore cheek that was still throbbing from where she had first slapped it when she ripped the door open of the room where she got to see with her own eyes you riding her husband.
It had happened so many times now you weren’t even embarrassed about someone walking in let alone a partner. Miki gave you a lopsided smile as she patted your shoulder, “Guess that just pays for being one of the best here. Did you at least get paid.”
You nodded, “Yeah, I always make them pay in advanced but I was hoping to get a tip afterwards...He was a lawyer so you know he had good money.” You sighed, crossing your arms, you were well aware of his partner because a lot of the time he didn’t even come in for sex anymore. It was funny how humans work.
He often felt his wife was overbearing and you had suspected some sort of verbal abuse by the way he talked about her constant screaming. Truthfully, you don’t think he ever intended on cheating with her. He just wanted someone to talk to without being judged, you could relate with sympathy to that, but he unfortunately chose to walk into a brothel instead of a therapy clinic and this truly was the only inevitable outcome. Still, you hope if for anyone’s sake, he gets that divorce for himself.
 “Hey I think I’m gonna call it a day. I need to get back to Nanami, she was wanting to talk to me about college applications.” You sighed as you rubbed your neck, ever since she had graduated high school she had been chomping at the bit to start applying for college, maybe to just get out of the house and into a dorm. You couldn’t blame her and if she did that it would lighten your load a little.
Guilt washed over you at the thought as Miki chuckled, “They grow up pretty fast huh? My brother was the same way, except the moment he found out I was a sex worker was the moment he called me a whore and we haven’t talked since. That was probably about five years ago,” She crossed her arms as she sighed, “Crazy how the things we do for the ones we love, never appreciate our effort...I’ll see you tomorrow then?”
“If I’m not bruising.” You offered a weak smile as you nodded at her before going back to your room to get changed. Truthfully, you much like anyone else, often wished you could go to a world where reality wasn’t a concept any longer. Where you could lay out in the sun for the whole day and just soak up it’s rays with no worries or trepidations.
But sooner then later everyone had to face their fears. Even you, you supposed. But no matter how hard you fought your demons, they always came back tenfold. Again, you supposed your story was no different from tens of thousands, and yet you all live on regardless. Maybe it’s you who should be the one seeking therapy. Pulling on your jeans and the cropped top over your head before pulling the jacket over your arms and grabbing your bag.
The walk home was as quiet as ever, your hood over your head and earbuds any unwanted attention, it wasn’t too late at night, only eleven PM and your work had just been getting started but that had ruined the night for you and besides, you had already failed a test today, you could use the sleep tonight.
Occasionally you’d hear the sirens of  a cop car passing by or a bystander shout, nothing out of the ordinary in this neighborhood. Walking up to the apartment complex you pulled the key from your bag as you unlocked the door. Quietly stepping insides as you shut the door before locking it once more. Your nose wrinkled at the smell of stale air mixed with rotten...something…
If anything, you were always lacking in something, you had been so busy most of the day that you never had time to clean anything leaving the house in a horrible state. Not that you thought this was much of a house.
Walking down the narrow hallway you opened the rickety door with a missing lock as you gave a brief smile to the small clump of bedsheets. Your sister was curled up and on her phone, eyes darting to the door with a hint of fear before she jumped up, “Y/n! You’re home earlier from night shift already!?”
You offered a smile as you set down your bag and nodded, sitting down on the mattress that laid on the floor as you replied, “Yeah, a coworker needed the extra hours so I let them cover for me tonight. Besides, you wanted to talk about college applications?” Your sister was under the impression your late night job was bartending at some hole in the wall downtown, where in all actuality you just went there to drink a few days and talk to the loud and sometimes obnoxious, but good hearted bartender who loved talking about his nerdy underaged friends that couldn’t do anything beside stay and drink soda.
It wasn’t that you didn’t think your sister would accept you, if she knew what you were actually doing. Fear, most times came in many different forms and this was one of them. You simply didn’t want to be judged, even by her. So nobody in your life truly knew who you were, and therefore, how could you hold the expectation for people to accept you into society if you were already self sabotaging yourself?
All philosophy aside, you were simply a lost soul, looking for your way in the cruel reality called life.
“Yes!” Nanami was chipper as always as she squealed, clapping her hands, “I…! I was thinking about applying to the university you attend! Maybe I'll get a grant and move into the dorms there? I already applied for several jobs, I’m just waiting on a callback!”
You offered a small smile as you hugged your knees to your chest, “I think you’d like it there, there’s lots to do around campus. But what will you go in for? The only advice I can offer is be sure it’s what you want to do.”
Nanami’s face faltered a little as she hummed, “Well...I thought maybe working with animals? I’d love to be an assistant surgeon in veterinarian? I know it’s a pretty...sad job but...I really like the idea of being able to heal such innocent things.” Your smile tugged into a gentle one at your sister. She was too tender for this world.
It had been your goal sense the day your mother died that you took care of your sister, it didn’t matter what happened to you. You could rot for all you cared at the end of the day, all you wanted was to look up and see your sister's smile and her happiness in life blossom. She more than anyone deserved it.
“I think you’ll be great at it.” You encouraged as you rested your chin on your hand, always happy to see her bounce in excitement as you yawned, your body was used to your demanding schedule but it was always more than happy to welcome a few extra hours of sleep.”
Hearing the door loudly slam close caused you both to jump, Nanami hurriedly crawled back in bed, pretending to be asleep as you frowned. Your dad must’ve come back home from wherever he was.
“Y/n! Just stay here! Can’t you talk to him later?” Nanami looked scared, she always did when he was around. But you weren’t about to stand down to the bastard any day of the week, you offered a weak smile as you replied.
“It’s fine Nami, I’ll be just a few minutes.” You replied, you knew that she knew, that was probably a lie. But you’d try your best, for her sake at least. But somebody had to put this guy in his place occasionally and it was always you. It results in a lot of screaming sometimes, other times he’d break down in tears or on a bad occasion you’d get shoved to the ground, a few times hit. Nothing major.
Walking out of the room you leaned against the wall of the entrance of the hallway watching your father stumble around in the living room, “Did you finally talk to the loan company?” You called out as you asked, not in a forgiving mood tonight. He had said he’d do this for two weeks in a row. The company that sank your whole family into the ground. The reason your mother couldn’t take it anymore and put a blade to her wrist.
Your father stood up, looking a little wobbly, obviously drunk, “Now listen here little girl I don’t have shit to own to you or anyone else.” You sighed as you tucked your tongue into your cheek, annoyance flowing inside you as you straightened up. You weren’t going to be bullied into being scared of this guy.
“Actually you do,” Your smile twisted into something more sharp, more bitter and sinister as you walked forward, “See, if you hadn’t of gotten involved in something shady like loan sharks we wouldn’t be drowning in debt and mom wouldn’t have killed herself because of you and both your daughters wouldn’t hate you. I know you drink away all our money in some pathetic attempt to escape from the cold reality that you fucked up your whole life and watched your family slip from your fingers while not even trying to do anything other then put us in further shit,” You closed your eyes as you tilted your head, “But the least you could do, is admit that. You owe us at least that for being a total fuck up.”
You opened your eyes to find pure rage brewing in your fathers eyes as you smiled once more, this time a false sense of sickly sweet tone to it as you shrugged, “Or you could live in denial, at this point, there really isn’t anything you can do to get anyone back ♡ ”
You had turned around, planning to tell Nanami that maybe she should go sleep over at a friends house today but you never got the chance, suddenly being slammed into the wall and flecks of spit hitting your face, “I am your fucking father! I deserve respect from you and your worthless sister! Do you know how much I provide for you both?”
Anger splintered through your veins as you grabbed onto his wrists, his fingers digging into your neck as you squirmed, “Like fucking what!? A shitty broken down apartment that your vacant from because you’re too fucking ashamed of yourself to even look at us sober!?”
Much like years in the past you weren’t surprised to hear Nanami cry as she rushed out of the room at the sound of you both screaming, “Stop!” She cried out, trying to break you both up, “Stop! Don’t fight! Why…! Why can’t we all just get along!” She sobbed only for your dad to shove her down making her curl up in defeat.
Alarm bells were triggered in your head at the sight of Nanami on the ground, she had never actually gotten hurt while in your sight and it was triggering something deep inside you as you watched him stalk up to her. Your hands shaking and rage boiling in your mind as you grabbed the closet thing you could find. An empty beer bottle on the table.
Your vision blurred and you don’t quite remember what happened other than glass shattering over his head and the brute force of you shoving something before blood was stained on your hands.
How did you end up sitting against the wall? Why was there….blood on your hands…? Your fingers trembled at the metallic sticky substance. All you could hear were Nanami’s sobs and cries as she frantically pushed herself away from the body slumped on the ground.
“You…! He…!” Nanami’s eyes brimmed with tears as you heard a loud boom making you jump, your eyes darting to the open window where….fireworks, big and bold crashed and crackled before you felt like you were sucked into a vortex making your whole vision black out.
Tumblr media
Your head felt fuzzy and there was ringing in your ears as you groaned, curling up into yourself as the darkness beckoned you closer before you forcibly opened your eyes. You were laying against the hardwood floor. Beams of light streaked through the window and you could see dust particles in the air against the shower of sunshine that streamed in.
...Wait...Light? The thought had perplexed your head enough to make you push up from the ground, memories pulling into your mind as your breath became shallow, suddenly looking to the side where...you slumped against the wall. It must’ve just been a bad dream….your eyes flickered to Nanami’s curled up figure...a really vivid dream…? Something wrenched in your gut as you rubbed your eyes. What happened? “Nami…!” You whispered, forcing your muscles to move despite their protest as she whined.
After another moment she reluctantly opened her eyes, flickering around before she suddenly scrambled up, taking a deep breath as if realizing what had happened before, looking towards where your dad once was she frowned, “...I...What…” She seemed just as perplexed as you and if her face was anything to go by, last night had obviously happened, “Is dad…” She looked at the absent place of the floor.
Leaning against the wall your eyes darted around the room, “I guess so…” You silently felt relief at knowing your dad was still very much alive as you leaned back as you closed your eyes, trying to remember what had happened before everything went dark...oh..! The fireworks...had it been a celebration last night? Your brows pinched together, something felt...off...getting up you opened the door to the apartment walking out.
“Y/n? Y/n! Hey! Where are you going!” Nanami called out, quickly chasing after you as you frowned, cars were parked odd and there was no one out on the street...as in...at all...Something was very wrong and you couldn’t figure out what.
“Wow...it..must be a slow day…” Nanami felt a sense of discomfort at the lack of life as you both walked down the side walk, it didn’t just feel like a slow day it felt, apocalyptic. As if humanity just left on it’s own leaving nothing but an empty city behind. Cars were parked on the curb and a few even left in the street.
“No, it’s like everyone vanished...This is really weird.” You wrapped your arms around yourself as you frowned, looking around as you came closer to where typically it would be a booming part of the downtown but it was empty, just as everything before.
“Well, maybe it’s a national holiday?” Nanami rubbed her head, trying to make sense of the situation just as much as you, surely everyone wasn’t...gone...right? She looked around as she bit her lip, second guessing herself at all the cars that were vacant, “Hey Y/n.”
You paused as you looked at your sister, curving an eyebrow as she offered a weak smile, “What if everyone got raptured away like they talk about in christanity?” Your expression flattened as she giggled, obviously getting a rise out of you as you crossed your arms.
Raptured? Where? To heaven? “Wouldn’t it be fire and brimstone then if that was the case?” Nanami pouted at your words as you shrugged, snickering yourself at her expression, the tables now turned as you sighed, “I don’t think there’s anyone left in Tokyo...I mean, it feels like...we’d have seen someone by now...right?”
“Well…” Nanami frowned once more, a little disturbed at your words as she spoke, “There’s no way everyone could be gone I mean, where would they go? And how could we miss something like that...Maybe the police found us and now we’re under some weird simulation.”
Chills spilled down your spine as you shoved her making her whine, “Don’t say that! That makes me feel all weird…! I didn’t…!” You cut yourself off, you didn’t what? Murder your own dad in cold blood...you looked down at your hands, they were free of any blood but it still felt like something like sin lingered. Like no matter where you went, it would always be stuck to you.
You didn’t like this, not one bit. Briefly you felt the urge to go hunt down your dad, he was a deadbeat but you would never...you’d never kill him....Right?
“Well…” Nanami hummed her eyes scanning ahead before they jumped to the mall that was up ahead, “Hey…! If nobody is here...maybe we could make use of it! Come on! Let's go!” You yelped at her grabbing your arm before dragging you ahead. Cars were all parked and yet not a single person exited through the mall's entrance. Something just felt off! You wrapped your arms around yourself as you warily looked around the empty mall, “Nanami I really don’t like this!” You looked around, concern bubbling inside you as she ran ahead into the store, digging through the section of clothes as she giggled.
“Relax! I doubt any of this is real and even so…! Who’s going to stop us!?” She shrugged as she bounced in excitement, “Oh my god! I had dreamed of something like this happening! Now we can do whatever we want! Go wherever we want! Y/n!” She gasped with a smile, “Now we don’t even have to worry about money!”
“We don’t even know if this is permanent.” You looked around warily, not partaking as she began plucking off the racks, “Regardless of what this is, I don’t like it. I want to go back home, our home. This just doesn’t…” You shook your head, “This just doesn’t feel right.”
“Well you can feel that way!” Nanami clacked her tongue as she gave a childish smile, “But I’m gonna go through this whole store and get a new wardrobe so feel free to sit on the bench and tell me what you think looks good!”
Looking away you sighed, unable to pinch the anxious feeling you had away as you sat down reluctantly as Nanami went into the changing room. Well...at least she was smiling and she was happy...With each outfit Nanami tried out and giggled, you giggled with her and maybe things weren’t so bad after all…
Tumblr media
“What a perfect day.” Nanami hugged you close as she sighed, yawning as you looked up at the sky in awe, you had seen a single star while living in Tokyo before, but now it was filled with constellations and millions of stars that stretched for miles. You could stare at it for days and days. The sun had just set a little over half an hour ago and you were ready to retire and find something to eat at the apartment.
You and Nanami had tried going to the food court but much to your dismay everything had been...rotten...soiled and ruined, meaning there was no point in trying to find anything there and you were getting really hungry despite devouring bags of chips you had both got at the convenient store, another thing that stood out to you was that there was no electricity...at all..
Looking back up to the sidewalk something caught your eyes...was that…! Light!? “Hey! Nanami look!” You shook her making her squeak as she looked up ahead, “It’s the hospital! They have electricity there which means there’s other people! Of course! Why didn’t we think to check essential areas!? Come on! Lets go! I wanna figure out what happened.”
“Alright! It sucks that this is already over but at least I can finally charge my phone, the battery is pretty low.” Nanami nodded in agreement as you both made your way up the road.
The walk wasn’t too far and you felt excitement fill you at the sight of the hospital all lit up as you walked into the entrance, a frown slowly setting on your lips once more as you walked past the receptionist desk and…! Oh there’s other people!
You felt relief wash over your as you ran up, there were at least seven other other people here at least! “Hey! Guys oh my god. I thought everyone was gone! What’s going on?” You asked, smiling bright in relief that you and Nanami weren’t the only ones left behind. Was this some kind of evac point or…?
Silence ensued and you slowly began to frown as you felt everyone stare at you as if you were insane, “Um…” You wrapped a hand around your arm, suddenly feeling as if everyone knew something you didn’t, “What’s going on…?” You furrowed your brows as you tilted your head, unsure of why everyone was looking at you like this.
Somebody looked like they were going to talk to you, a guy relatively around your age but a woman stopped him- his girlfriend maybe? “Stop, the less that know the better chance we have.” She said quietly though you still heard just enough. Fear twisted inside you as you took a cautious step back...The...the less you knew?
“Wow, you guys are assholes,” A girl suddenly whistled out, she was sitting in a waiting chair, a cowboy hat on her head paired with distressed jeans and...a bikini top? Strange but you’d roll with it if it meant getting answers. She stood up as she offered a smile, “Akari, nice to meet ya’. You folk must be new to the Borderlands huh?” She jutted her bottom lip a little as you frowned.
“Um I’m Y/n and this is my sister Nanami...?” You introduced yourself despite feeling confused as you raised a brow, “Borderlands…?” You echoed, what was that supposed to be? Other than Tokyo?
Akari gave a nod as she let out a brief chuckle, as if amused by your confusion but you sensed she had no real ill will unlike....your eyes checked to the couple that stood off in the corner on their own, “That’s what they call it here,” She nodded in affirmation as your eyes darted back to her in confusion, “To be frank with ya’, I don’t have a damn clue what's going on. Nobody does. But ever since you crossed the threshold there’s no going back, so I’ll be brief. We’re all considered outsiders here and we participate in games at venues such as this to extend our stay.”
Nanami and you looked at one another confused as Akari waved you over to the table in front of a TV, “Here, you’ll wanna put these on, it’s for the game.” She explained as you carefully picked up the metal bracelet, something about it felt ominous as you reluctantly put it on, jumping at the way it latched together and there was no getting it off now, “Word of advice, just don’t panic and you probably won’t die.”
“What?!” You screeched as Akari smacked your back, panic evident in your voice as you turned around to face her making her laugh again, this girl was insane! She had to be! “You’re…! You’re joking!”
Akari wrinkled her nose as she tilted her head, “Ah shit, I wish I was- Oh…! There’s the last player!” Just on que everyone turned to look at who had arrived, someone heaving breaths with their hands on their knees as if they had sprinted. You were mildly worried at why he seemed so scared but you had a feeling that was the least of your problems right now.
“Y/n what’s going on…?” Nanami frightened grabbed your arm as she hid a little behind you due to all these immensing strangers that looked like they were ready to feed you to the sharks, literally.
The guy walked past you both as he put on his bracelet, your eyes sharp as you watched it latch together automatically, your gaze jumping to everyone's wrists to notice you were all now wearing one. The TV suddenly lit up.
Game
You squinted your eyes a little at the sight of the screen, just what were you about to unwillingly participate in…?
Difficulty: 5♣
“The game you will be participating in is, Monster under the bed.”
A playing card? Monster under the bed? Your brows furrowed as you looked at Nanami who shrugged a little despite her concerned expression, looking just as confused as you. You could’ve made a joke out of this, surely it would’ve been easier. Maybe everyone would bust out laughing and you’d be at the end of a poor joke but...somehow you felt that wasn’t the case. Thus paying very close attention to whatever was on this screen,
“Everyone will be sectioned off into pairs by the number chosen on your bracelet, when the doors to the ward open you will have three rounds ten minutes each to figure out who is the monster under the bed that must be returned to its own, once the ten minutes is up you must hide before you are found. If the selected pair that is the monster is chosen correctly it’s a Game Clear.  If the monster is not found by the end of the third round or if the pair fails to hide it’s a Game Over.”
Rules:
Once the doors are open you and your partner must find a hiding spot by the time limit
Both partners must be hidden. If one is exposed to the monster it’s a Game Over for both partners
There will be an X marked on the ground to place the monster of your guess onto.
You will have three rounds of ten minutes each to find the monster.
Any attempt to remove bracelets results in a Game Over
If the monster is not found by the third round a Game Over.
The only Game Clear condition required is for the monster to be returned by the third round.
What…
What!?
“Now the game will commence, you have five minutes to figure out who you have been paired up with before the doors open.”
Your mind was blanking as you watched everyone look down at their bracelet, hurriedly you lifted your arm as your mind blanked 2 looking back at Nanami her lips were already quivering as she sniffled lifting her arm in defeat as your lips dropped open, 5.
“Hey! Guess you’re my partner!” Akari grinned as she wrapped an arm around Nanami who sniffled, “Oh…” She looked between you both, “Oh! Oh don’t worry! We’re not the monster so I’ll make sure your sister lives! You should go find your partner.”
Your hands trembled unsure of what to do before you went to hug Nanami, “Whatever happens just stay calm okay! I need to go find my partner now!” You whispered, kissing her cheek as she sniffled while nodding.
Everybody was shuffling around looking for their partner now, you passed by a few people, 4, 1, 3...did you even have a partner…? You scanned around, your throat tightening a little in panic, there had to be a mistake! There were only 8 people surrounding you- you yelped at the tight grip that suddenly held your arm forcing you to turn around to be met with a white hooded figure, a lollipop handle hanging and earbuds in before sighing, “So it appears I’m stuck with someone useless.” The man concluded as he stood up making you back away a little as your lips parted somewhat indignantly.
How...how rude! You looked up, unable to fully make out his face but you could tell you didn’t like him one bit, “I’ll…! First of all I’m not useless! I’m just trying to understand what's going on! This is insane! We aren’t actually going to die from this, are we!?” Pushing his hood down you were immediately met with a snide gaze and cat eyes that leered at you like you were nothing more then dirt beneath his feet, long blonde hair pushed behind his shoulders and his bangs hanging low, suddenly a viscous side smile appeared on his lips, “Apparently so, otherwise I wouldn’t have watched half my last game get their brains blown out and the other half hung.”
You reeled a little away from the blonde, your face dropped in semi horror, unsure if this was just a sick joke or he was serious. You searched his face a thousand times over, but for the first time in your life, you couldn’t figure out what his goal was. You couldn’t figure out anything about him, except he was exceptionally cold, “Well I don’t suppose I have much choice to doubt you,” He said with an annoying sing song tone as he rattled his wrist that showed the bracelet with a matching 2 on it, “My name is Chishiya, just stay out of my way and we’ll both live.”
How arrogant! You scoffed as he walked past you, not the least bit bothered at your offense as you whipped around, glaring at his back. How come out of everyone you got stuck with the most…! Pompous! Arrogant! Ugh! You crossed your arms as you followed behind him, stilling secretly sending daggers into his back with your eyes as everyone shuffled into the ward.
Hospital beds were scattered around the room, a few closets and one large vent at the bottom right corner of the room ahead.
“Wait, what is this?” The first person to speak was a fair thin older gentleman, he appeared friendly as he observed the room around him, everyone looked around in confusion as you noticed what he meant.
Any possible hiding spot was covered by either sheets of metal or locked tight...How were any of you supposed to hide if…!? The rules mentioned nothing about solving puzzles to gain access to a hiding spot!
“Forget that,” Another man said with a sneer he was broad and a bit older, well into his late twenties at least, perhaps a gym coach? Or maybe a wrestler of some sort? He looked like he could break you and nearly every other person in this room like a twig, “We need to figure out who’s the monster. “ He cracked his knuckles as you leered a little away and nobody spoke for a second.
Of course, who would out themselves as the monster, more importantly, how does one even know they’re the monster? You could immediately feel tension rise as the previous, more patient man spoke, a little more collected, “How about we just check one another's’ watches! If anywhere it would show us on that! One pair should work on solving these puzzles here so everyone has a place to hide”
“Unless the monster is among us and it sabotages us so we all die by the time limit.” The girlfriend crossed her arms as she darted her eyes around. Truthfully you didn’t know what to believe, the wording on the soundbox was rather confusing as to just what were you looking for. Was the monster supposed to be in the group or it’s own entity?
“If that were the case it would’ve showed up on our watches, which it didn’t. So that won’t work.” Chishiya spoke matter of fact, his tone cool as his eyes gazed across the room before he walked away from the group inspecting various hiding spots granted you didn’t think he was about to help anyone but himself, if anything you were at least lucky that him securing a hiding spot meant it was one for you as well.
You looked at everyone in confusion, some arguing while others scattered to look for a hiding spot as the clock ticked down. You breathed in relief at the sight of Nanami and Akari both going for a bed to hide under. Your gaze finally found Chishiya’s form before following him, unsure of what you were supposed to do, if anything outside trying to figure out just what the monster even was.
You glanced up at the digital clock that stood above the entrance you had just come in from, it was already a minute in before you searched the floor where you found a red X in the center of the room, that must’ve been the...what? Offering spot? You cringed a little at the idea. Looking forward you peered behind Chishiya’s shoulder deciding to not think about that, it seemed the metal sheet that had wrapped around the bed and was sealed to the ground was locked by some sort of metal device…? Contraption? Lock?
“Isn’t hiding under a bed a bit obvious…?” You frowned as you crossed your arms, unsure as you looked behind your shoulder once more to where accusations were already being thrown in the group.
“The vent is a decoy to make you waste time, I already checked,” Chishiya replied, his fingers nimble as they rattled the metal, “And even if someone were to accomplish it in the time limit it’s the most obvious spot the monster would first check. Next would be the closet given it’s at eye level and the first thing one is drawn too when they walk into a room.”
Your lips parted a little in surprise at his assessment...obviously he wasn’t just overconfident, “And why this spot?” If he had really thought about all this in less than a minute then...did he have a reason for this spot? You now found yourself, slightly less annoyed and a little more curious as to what was going on in his mind.
“If the monster were to check a bed it would be after his eyes are drawn to the closet. Next in that line of sight would be the vent directly across it, which would be his next place to look if not his first and vice versa. The beds are all staggered throughout the room making them less conspicuous compared to the other hiding places, the bed on the far end of the room would be no good.”
Your brows furrowed in curiosity at his assessment as you watched Chishiya blow a piece of hair from his face, wiggling out one piece of the knotted metal, “It’s too far from the entrance where as the one in the middle is by average the one most people would start with, where as the first? It’s almost too soon in the start to look there thus making it the safest.”
“It’s them! They’re over there conspiring!” You both twisted around to watch the broad man point an accusing finger at you both as your eyes darted from him to the clock on the wall, which read at six minutes. A few other pairs, relievingly so was your sister had started working on a hiding spot while a few others stood around and argued.
Your face coiled a little as you replied, not appreciating the accusation to such a baseless accusation, did they not realize the longer they argued the less time they had to secure a hiding spot? “Someone who’s terrible at playing the minority would often be the first to point fingers. There’s only six minutes left before the first round is over and we need to hide. But if you want to talk about this then sure,”
You stepped closer as you crossed your arms, scanning over him before continuing, “Let’s talk about the chances of you being the monster, ever since you first came in you’ve been all twitchy and acting like something is wrong. Even when we first got paired up, you seemed a little panicked. Anyways,” You turned around as you spoke, “How do we know one pair is a monster and not one single person?”
“Eh,” Akari sat on the bed that her and Nanami chose as Nanami fumbled to work out the puzzle, she had always been good at those! You felt assured as your heart beat frantically at the idea of them not being able to get a hiding spot in time, “Let’s all calm down,” She gave an awkward laugh, “This isn’t a hearts game, we shouldn’t divide our trust. This is a team building after all which means this game should be making us work together, the last thing we need to do is throw that away on our own accord.”
“...Team building?” You frowned as you murmured having not been aware that this was some sort of game category...Hearts? Clubs? The memory of the playing card flashing on the screen appeared in your mind again, right...was that to stand for some kind of game genre? If Clubs stood for team building then...there should be no reason that the monster is any of you. Why would they even suggest that to begin with?
Then...what was the monster?
“One minute remaining.”
The lights suddenly began flickering, “Got it.” Chishiya yanked the last piece of metal undone as he pulled the sheet of metal off, everyone was now scrambling and the few who had not done their puzzle were now panicking. Getting down you crawled under the bed, your back flat to the ground as you inhaled sharply as you noticed the lights beginning to dim, “This is...uncomfortable.” You mumbled, trying to ignore being pressed shoulder to shoulder with a man you didn’t even know besides him having a god complex, “We should’ve went with the vent.”
“By all means, if you want to try and get yourself killed already. Go for it.” You turned to look at him, dark endless cat eyes meeting you as you harshly glared at him, why was he so condescending!?
You were about to snap back something before you realized it was completely dark and the door slammed open causing you to jump. Was your heart always this loud? You could see the heavy boots step against the ground making you unsteadily inhale, swallowing as you closed your eyes. You could only place your trust that Chishiya hadn’t picked a horrible spot.
More importantly your mind was plagued with worry for your sister, you had been so caught up you hadn’t even tried to help her yet...did she even…! You heard a sudden loud scream from two people causing you to stiffen as you looked up at the bed frame lined with wooden planks. You could only cower back down at blood suddenly painting the floor.
Your stomach suddenly churned as you covered your mouth. So he wasn’t lying. Chishiya however looked just as nonpulsed as he did when he first told you himself, his eyes blankly staring up at the bed frame as if this was just a regular game of hide and seek as people screamed as they were torn apart.
Or that’s at least what you assumed it was.
After an agonizing few minutes the doors finally closed and the lights flickered back on making you breath in relief as you waited a moment, could you even bear to face what was waiting on the floor? You winced a little before something caught your eye. What was with all this extra wood stuck in the frame?
Chishiya had already gotten out from under the bed and before you suddenly heard a few girls scream, your sister among them making you puff and breath as you scrambled from beneath the bed.
Standing up your mouth agape at the horrid sight of the female and the broad male that had been too focused on accusing others, they didn’t have...enough time...it looked like they had been completely mutilated, blood pouring on the floor and the smell made you want to gag as you looked away.
“Well, now what do we do.” Akari scratched her head, also not looking phased that two people had just been brutally killed. Your eyes stayed placed on the bodies before they slowly trailed to your hands, the memory of blood staining them still fresh in your mind.
“Well we have to figure out where the monster is?” The girlfriend of the couple spoke up, she looked around somewhat suspiciously, “But I’m not sure where we could find it? Maybe it has to do with the bracelets? Maybe there’s a clue hidden.”
“Oh what about in the cabinets?” The collected man from before offered as he went to search the cabinets, your frown furthered as you glanced around. Everyone was now getting along, still on edge but along at least.
Chishiya only leaned against the wall, his hands in his pocket as he rolled the lollipop in his mouth, his gaze the same steely one it was before as if he had done his job in securing his temporary salvation and was now done.
Or maybe he just didn’t know what to do? It was obvious his strength didn’t lie in teamwork, clearly. But then again, you weren’t sure what was going on, you couldn’t get a read on him. Crossing your arms you stayed beside him, your eyes briefly washing over your sister who was working Akari to dig through a desk together.
“Cabinets and drawers are too obvious.”
Chishiya’s eyes flickered to your figure, his expression just as cold if not...a little smug maybe? He said nothing in return as you continued, “If we’re looking for a monster, it’s obvious it’s a metaphor for something. Inanimate most likely,” Your eyes flickered around the room, inhaling sharply, why did it feel like the answer was right in front of you?
Think…! You glanced at the clock, only six minutes left. The rounds were really short…! “It’d be something small and inconspicuous, something that’s in plain sight….but easy to miss...and the game said it was a pair which means there’s more than likely two.”
“Three,” You glanced at Chishiya as he spoke, pulling the lollipop from his mouth, that permanent smug look on his face as he answered, “Two is what they want you to think and if you spend a round searching for each like they hope it’s game over by three.”
You rubbed your neck as you frowned, “It’s already the second round and we haven’t even found one…” You glanced around before you suddenly perked up, “Wait…!” Getting back down on the floor you laid on your back as you pushed yourself under the bed, “Chishiya! Help me get this thing out!”
Within a moment the blonde appeared as well, his eye sharp and keen as they noticed straight away what you were tugging at, “You think this is the monster?”
You looked at him as you raised a brow, “We have less than four minutes left on our second round, you have a better idea?” Chishiya said no more but helped regardless, successfully with the both of you maneuvering it around from beneath the wooden boards you managed to get it out.
Holding it up you looked at it, “It’s a poppet doll.” You turned to face him as you smiled in accomplishment, “They’re typically used as curses to place upon people in folklore. If anything is a monster, this would be it.”
Excited at your first victory you pulled out from beneath the bed as you waved it up, “Hey guys! We need to start looking for something similar to this! If not a replica.” Everyone huddled around you examining the doll before the microphone sounded, “One minute remaining.”
Everyone had immediately scrambled back to their hiding place as you ran to the red X, placing the poppet on it, that's the reason that had to be there right!? You’d just have to see, hurriedly you ran back to your spot under the bed. Making it just in time as the lights flickered off.
The door slamming open once more as you slowly inhaled, it had to work right? If not...then you were at a loss for what to search for and you were utterly screwed.
The boots stomped against the floor past the bed as you closed your eyes, unable to calm yourself. After a moment you heard a screech and something rip open before screams followed making you jump. Chishiya’s eyes were on the feet that stood by the closet that had been obviously ripped open.
You heard the sound of something wet and a gurgle before a body slumped to the floor and you could hear begging before something got snapped in half causing you to close your eyes once more...Did you make it angry!? Was that not it? Fuck. You had never felt this stressed before as it roamed around, passing in front of your bed as you tensed.
Was this your last moment alive? Truly?
Much to your relief, the door closed once more before the lights followed, flickering on, relaxing a little you sighed as you reluctantly got out from underneath the bed with Chishiya to see what had happened. Much to your horror it was the man who had been so kind this whole game and his partner.
The monster didn’t check anywhere in the first round, yet he did this round? You tried to block out the bodies slumped in the corner as you glanced at the red X, the poppet doll gone.
“Why- why were they killed!” Nanami’s eyes began to water as she grabbed her head, “This makes no sense!”
“If it accepts the doll that means we only need two more. What happened to them is irrelevant.” Chishiya stuffed his hands back into his pocket as you glared at him sideways, not appreciating his careless tone. You could deal with it, but you didn’t want your sister dragged into it.
Grabbing your chin you thought about it for a moment, “Well...the game said to return the monster to its own and…” You glance down at the X, was there some kind of unsaid rule that if you didn’t get all three of them on the first try that it would start hunting down players? “How would a mother feel if they only returned one of its children?”
“This thing doesn’t have feelings,” The girlfriend of the partners replied coldly, her eyes like steel of her own as she clung to her boyfriend, “It’s as he said,” She waved to Chishiya, “It doesn’t matter, we’ll be like them if we don’t figure this out.”
You glanced around the room, “Tell me this, if it doesn’t matter, then why did they give us all these different hiding spots?” Everyone was silent, all eyes on you as if your question didn’t make any sense, your eyes flickered to the clock that was nearing eight minutes, you didn’t have time to monologue, “No think about it. The monster never intended to look for us- that was never stated in the rules. So why did they give us all of these choices if we only needed one per pair? My point being, if we found one poppet in our hiding spot then...You get where I’m going with this? Chishiya.”
He glanced up at you acknowledgement as you curved a brow, your lips threatening to tug into a smile as you tilted your head, “How confident are you in solving that vent?”
He glanced back down and for the first time, you watch a cocky wide smirk twist onto his lips, “You’re lucky to have someone as smart as me here to be able to open it.” You tucked your tongue into your cheek as in annoyance as he sauntered over to the vent already getting to work, “As for everyone else, we need to open up as many of these as possible to find the other two.”
Everyone immediately scrambled to get to work, with only seven minutes on the clock this was...going to be difficult. First Nanami and Akari searched all the opened spots as you worked on another bed. Rubbing your head as muttered, “Shit...I never was good with puzzles.” You awkwardly hung your head in defeat temporarily, briefly letting your eyes shift to Chishiya who was fiddling with several locks, his gaze sharp and you couldn’t even imagine all the calculations going on in his mind. You were somewhat envious of what it would be like to be that perceptive to anything adhering to logic and solution.
“Aha! Found one!” Akari yanked the poppet from the top of the closest as Nanami covered her mouth, looking like she was gonna throw up being so close to so many dead bodies. You ignored the grisly sight at the second victory of the poppet doll. Akari quickly placed it on the X as you began to work on the puzzle once more, looking up at the clock. Oh no...Oh no there was only three minutes left!
“Chishiya! Hows that puzzle coming along.” You called out, trying not to sound alarmed but you could see the clear cut annoyance on his face as he continued working through the locks, “If you’d like to help while struggling on a novice lock feel free.” He replied condescendingly, not appreciating the pressure.
You rolled your eyes with huff as you finally managed to get it undone, feeling triumphant as you searched under the bed but there was no luck, “There’s nothing here!”
“Or here!”
Several people called out as well as you rubbed your head, standing up, “If the only other place that hasn’t been searched is the vent then maybe there’s only two? It did say a pair.” You felt a lump of anxiety well in your chest at the sight of the clock ticking close to a minute and half.
“Should we really take the risk?” The boyfriend asked as he rubbed his neck, concern on his face as he looked around, “If we’re wrong then we’ll all…”
You hadn’t even thought of that…
“...! Hey.” You turned to Chishiya who seemed to be trying to get your attention making you immediately come over, if he was asking for you it’d have to be for something important given there was nearly less then two minute on the clock, “Hold this right here.” He immediately pushed your hand onto the lock right where he wanted it, “This is a two handle mechanism meaning that there needs to be two people unlocking it. Push down and out at the same time.”
“Hide! Everyone needs to hide now!”
The lights were beginning to flicker as everyone scrambled to hide, stress evidently put on your shoulders now more than ever. You could only hope he was right with your life on the line, “Now!” You pushed down on your side, the lock sliding as you pulled out, pulling a piece of metal holding up the lock directly out as Chishiya did the same with his side.
The lock fell off as well as the metal of the gate of the vent, you immediately with no hesitation leaned inside it was dark and hard to make it out anything besides the steep drop off. So he was right, this was a waste of time for a hiding place.
Looking down you caught sight of wood before laughing in relief, “It’s here! Wait shit! Chishiya! It’s too far down in the vent, you’re gonna have to lower me down to reach it. Time?”
“Forty five seconds.” You felt unfamiliar hands on your hips lifting you up as you were lowered down, “We have time.”
You squinted trying to see as you reached down, “Lower me further! I’m not quite in reach,” Your muscles began to ache in your shoulder as you reached harder, growling in frustration, “Time!?” You were lowered a little further, the wooden poppet brushing against your fingers.
“Thirty seconds! Could you go a little faster?”
“Could you lower me a little quicker- Ah! Hey did you almost let go!?” You snarled back, grabbing the poppet doll, giving a good yank as it lodged in between the crevice it was in, “Get me back up! I got it. Time!”
“Twenty seconds.” Chishiya called back, pulling you up as you gasped, pain from the metal jabbing into your stomach evident as you were met with a darkening room. Setting your feet firmly on the floor your eyes flew to the flock fifteen seconds and your spot was all the way across the room….!
“Where are we supposed to hide!? We can’t get all the way there in time!” You hissed out running to the X as you dropped the poppet down. The lights shut off as the final five seconds counted down and before you could do anything you were shoved to the floor as you squeaked. Your body throbbing in pain and your mouth immediately covered as you were met with the coverage of a bed but neither one of you were bold enough to try and scramble beneath it as the doors slammed open.
Fuck.
Your whole body was tense as your eyes squeezed shut, you were just a little ahead of the X here, if this is all the poppet dolls...they’d have no reason to go further into the room...unless...Your hand squeezed tight around the wrist of the hand that covered your mouth as you tried to calm yourself at the loud thudded footsteps.
It was quiet for a moment before you heard more walking before the doors closed.
“Game Cleared”
The lights turned on as you fell limp against the side of the bed, Chishiya’s hand removed from mouth as you pushed your hair from your face, closing your eyes as you breathed in relief, “Holy shit.” Was all you could mutter to yourself, you had never been more grateful to breathe air in your whole life.
“I guess you weren’t that useless after all huh.” Chishiya clacked his tongue as you turned your head to look at him, raising your brows as your face contorted into something between insult and amusement.
You’ve only known this man for a half an hour and yet...something about his words, if you dug down deep past that smug expression of his, was this a compliment? Looking away you pressed your tongue into your cheek, trying to keep from smiling, “Yeah, and you’re still conceited and arrogant but, I guess you have a good reason to be.” You glanced back at him again but you could hardly hold his gaze, something in that brief moment was electrified between you both as you laughed somewhat sheepishly, closing your eyes as you looked away once more.
What the fuck was even wrong with you? If this was back before today you would’ve totally kicked this guy in the balls and went about your day.
“Y/n!” You straightened up at the sound of Nanami’s voice, your expression brightening as you stood up, quickly running to her as you hugged her tight, “I can’t believe that just happened…” She whispered to you as she pressed her face into your neck. You couldn’t either but, you were thankful you had survived this game. Whatever it was.
“Come on, let's get out of this room.” You tugged on her arm, no longer wanting to be in this death room despite knowing it was all over. Pulling her out you paused at the sight of the TV and a...register…? You bracelet unlocked as you took it off, tossing it on the table as you tilted your head.
“Congratulations Game ''Clear ``.''
“...Now issuing visas to those who survived the game…?” You furrowed your brows as you glanced at Nanami who rubbed her head in confusion. You grabbed the receipt as you looked it over with a frown before picking up the 5 of clubs playing card along with it. Odd.
“It’s how many days you’re allowed to stay now! Almost a whole week, that's a good score for a first game!” Akari called out as she patted your back making you jump a little.
Almost a whole week…”Until we have to play again to...continue our stay?” You raised a brow, deciding not to ask what happens if you refused. While you had many questions, you had a feeling you knew the answer to that one.
A part of you couldn’t even believe this had happened, or was it all still a dream.
“Hey…! Sorry for all of that in there,” You turned to see...oh…! It was the boyfriend of the partner, the gifrlfriend stayed behind looking brooding, “I’m Ryu and that’s my girlfriend Hiroko I was...ah…” He faltered a little, rubbing the back of his neck as his gaze flittered to his girlfriend who was glaring him down, “You should stop by the Beach- I...I think you guys would make good additions! Bye!” He hurried not even finishing his original sentence before scurrying off making you furrow your brows at what he even meant.
“The hell?” Akari raised a brow as she watched the guy run off, “Seems to me he wanted to chat more…guess we know who's really pulling balls in that relationship.”
Nanami suddenly snickered, covering her mouth as she giggled, “Hey Akari! Why don’t we stay together! We did really well in the game together!”
“Awh shit, if you guys really want me too!” Akari offered a quirky smile as you laughed, you had no problems with someone staying behind with you. Looking past Akari your smile faded a little at the sight of a white hoodie exiting the entrance.
“Hey- I’ll be right back!” You pushed past the both of them who paid you no mind as you pushed out of the exit and down the stone steps, not sure why your feet were making you chase after such an egotistical man but…!
“Chishiya!” You called out, making the man pause, he turned around, pulling the earbuds out as he glanced up from his hoodie, raising his brows in acknowledgement, “Um…” Why did you even chase after him…? You stepped down the last step as you wrapped your arms around yourself.
It was silent for a moment as you berated yourself internally for why you seemed so speechless all of a sudden. Chishiya however didn’t seem to mind, his eyes absent now as he stared up at the hospital, “I used to do my clinical rotations here.”
You were broken out of your silent thrashing of internal humiliation as you raised your brows, lips parting in curiosity as you asked, “You were a doctor?”
“No,” Chishiya snorted, that amused calico look of his on his face once more as he looked down at you, “I was a medical student. Training to be a doctor but that obviously didn’t happen…” His lips curved into a frown, his eyes cold once more as they looked back up at the building, “I came here tonight to see if anyone I knew would be here.”
“Oh…” You looked away, feeling somewhat awkward and unsure of how to reply to him as silence took over once more beside the occasional rustling of the wind in the tree’s, the urge to speak overtaking you to the point you couldn't resist, “Chishiya...I…” You looked away, feeling somewhat bashful, “We...made a really good team back there.” You forced yourself to look up at him as you offered a bright yet subtly shy smile, “If you want...you could stay with us…?”
Chishiya pulled the lollipop stick from his mouth, letting it drop to the ground as he spoke, “No thanks.” You turned to him in surprise as you frowned a little, you shouldn’t have expected anything less…
“Oh...I understand.” You offered a weak smile as he turned his back on you and began to walk once more, “I just have one more question,” You called out causing him to pause, “...Do you by any chance know about a place called the Beach?”

“look, i know we don’t know each other that well, but i’m still worried about you. no one deserves to be alone.”
characters: hoshiumi kourai x fem! reader / slight miya atsumu
request status: OPEN / please send any reqs you guys have! my inbox is currently empty and im lacking in any kind of writing inspiration...like seriously lacking lmao. there could be a part two if any of you are interested in one.
Tumblr media
you looked at your now ex boyfriend, trying to keep your tears at bay. the two of you were standing outside the bar, not knowing what you were planning on saying the man you loved as you saw him with a girl on his lap, laughing and giggling at whatever he was saying.
“you could’ve just broken up with me, it would have saved me time and effort,” you told him with a stone cold face. you could tell Atsumu was in a straight panic, not knowing what to say or do, “honestly, I would have handled the break up a lot better than you would have assumed I would have.”
Atsumu reached out to grab your hand but you quickly snatched it back, putting it behind your back, “no, you don’t get the right to hold any part of me anymore. whatever you were doing, do it with the girl you were just with,” you exclaimed, a laugh of bitterness leaving you, “but I don’t want that girl, I want you!” he yelled.
you rolled your eyes, not believing a word he was saying, “no, you wanted a girl to fuck with on the side while I waited for you at home. you’re just angry you got caught, Miya, that’s all,” you stated. Atsumu felt stray tears falling down his face as you noticed a familiar face with snow white hair popping out of the front of the door.
“as wrong as this is to say, I was always preparing myself for this. my grandmother always said to have a envelope of cash and money as runaway money in case I ever needed to get away...” you played with you finger nails before looking up to him for one final time, “I’ll be moved out in a few days. the apartment is under your name and I don’t mind getting a new place,” you added on.
Atsumu saw you walking away, not believing that you were actually leaving him. he grabbed your ankle, practically putting on a scene for everyone who was hanging out in the front of the building, “Atsumu, this is embarrassing for you. quit it while you still have some dignity left, jesus christ,” you said not realizing the mantrum that he was throwing, “you really should’ve thought this all out before you decided to cheat. I always had one rule and you knew it. I could quickly replace you as fast as we got together and this was your one chance.”
you kicked yourself out of his grip, walking into the bar to have yourself a drink. you saw the girl who was on Atsumu’s lap not wanting to look you in the eye as she sat on her chair in shame, “enjoy him girlie because as you can tell, he’ll quickly replace you when he gets bored,” you tipped your glass of dark liquor to her in a ‘good luck’ type of way before finding an empty seat.
that familiar snow white hair you saw earlier happened to be Hoshiumi who was walking towards you. you being the former Inarizaki manager made you know the names to the most popular players from each team they played so Hoshiumi was no stranger.
“hey,” you heard his voice say over the music. you gave him a smile with a small wave, not wanting to say, “you okay? I accidentally overheard your situation with Atsumu earlier,” he asked, pulling the seat out from the other side of the table.
you shrugged knowing that all the raw emotions from the argument and what you just had saw hadn’t settled in yet, “I don’t know,” you said truthfully, “my boyfriend of three years was cheating on me and if I’m okay right now, I know I won’t be tomorrow,” you explained.
Hoshiumi nodded understandingly, “do you mind if I sit with you for the rest of the night?” he asked quietly, in a sort of shy way, which was odd considering Hoshiumi was just as hyperactive as Hinata Shoyo from Karasuno way. “look, i know we don’t know each other that well, but i’m still worried about you. no one deserves to be alone.”
you felt that pang in your heart as you saw the warmness on Hoshiumi’s smile. you tried to contain your tears as best as you could but Hoshiumi saw right through that. he tracked down the waitress and ordered the two of you another round of drinks, your choice of course as he tried to focus the conversation on anything that wasn’t Atsumu or your breakup.
from that night forward, Hoshiumi was by your side for the entirety of your breakup. he was of help when you needed an extra hand to move all your things out of your shared apartment with Atsumu.
it didn’t sit right with Atsumu at the fact that Hoshiumi was seemingly close to you all of a sudden. he had saw him that night at the bar but he didn’t think he would take advantage of the situation and so quickly. never once in the entirety of your relationship with Atsumu did you ever mention befriending Hoshiumi and so closely but seeing the way he was helping you move out and making sure you were okay threw him way the hell off.
once you were finished taking your things out of the apartment, you looked to Atsumu and wiggled the set of keys that were on your keychain out. you gave him one last look before handing them to him, “so I take it that you won’t accept the job with the Jackals?” he asked.
“I think you know that answer, Miya.”
you walked out of the apartment, leaving a teary eyed Atsumu at the door as Hoshiumi waited for you at the front of the building. your place a few minutes farther from Atsumu’s place. it wasn’t as nice of a place in comparison to how you used to live but it would do until you found a job.
“what are you plans now?” Hoshiumi asked as he helped you unpack things from the box. you shrugged again, “I really don’t know. Atsumu had gotten me a job with the Jackals and those were plans for quite a while but considering that relationship is long gone, I guess I really have to start looking for a job before I go broke.”
Hoshiumi laughed, feeling his phone buzz multiple times. he looked down to see a few texts from Ushijima and Kageyama. to your luck, the Adlers had also gotten a job opening for a few positions with a team. Hoshiumi had mentioned to the team that he knew someone that could possibly take the position of the old manager and they had been grilling him about it since.
the pre-season was about to start and they needed an experienced manager and quick. considering your qualifications with Inarizaki and the degree you got in college, he knew you would do well on the job and all you would need is a bit of polishing up in order to be great if not even better than their former manager.
“listen, I don’t know how willing you will be to accept what I’m about to say but Schweiden has an opening for a positions and one of them is to be the team’s manager and assistant. I might’ve pushed your name because I know you’ve done the managerial position before and we need a manager as soon as possible.”
your eyes doubled down in confusion as Hoshiumi showed you the hiring paper. you quickly skimmed it down seeing that you had the qualifications for the job. you saw that it was a text from Kageyama Tobio that read if you had accept the position yet before their coach killed them.
“wait, how long would I be there?” you asked, gripping his phone. you looked at you, now slightly confused himself, “what do you mean? you’d be there as long as you want or until you quit. the position is permanent.” you read the application again and smiled, “I just got this place but tell them I’ll be available for an interview at any time.”
Hoshiumi tackled you into a hug, his hyperactive attitude running rampant again, “THANK YOU! THANK YOU! the team is gonna be so happy, I know it!” he exclaimed, quickly dialing his coaches number as you sat there, taking in your all new reality.
after a run through of a few interviews, the Adler’s ultimately gave you the position as their manager and assistant. they found you the most suitable as you had experience under your belt and got along with most of the team. well...as best as you could considering Kageyama and Ushijima weren’t really the talkative type to begin with.
the move to Tokyo was a bit easier than expected. Hoshiumi quickly helping you into your new apartment as he showed you around the Adler’s gym and even the town when he wasn’t busy. you had your own office since you were assisting the team’s coach with a few office related things but most of your duties were strictly to the team.
with your new job came new team photo’s for the year as well as your organizations employee id photo. your uniform consisted of black leggings or athletic shorts if Tokyo was particularly hot that day and a Schweiden sweater/t-shirt on game day. on non-game days where you had to be in your office, the general uniform was business casual unless it was Friday’s where you could wear your game day uniform.
the team photo day was around the corner and the Adler’s even had a few professional makeup artist for anyone who wanted to have their makeup done for the photos. Hoshiumi and to your surprise, Kageyama, landed in the makeup chairs right next to you as they both wanted to be concealed so their under eye bags weren’t as prominent.
“you ready for the pics?” Hoshiumi asked with an excited smile. you nodded just as excitedly, “working in volleyball again feels so weird but I can’t wait for the season to start!” you exclaimed as Hoshiumi gave you a high-five in agreement.
unbeknownst to you but known to the entire team, Hoshiumi had fell entirely head over heels for you. his heart eyes weren’t a secret to anyone besides you and if everyone was being honest, they really wanted Hoshiumi to get a move on with asking you out so he could stop coming to practice with a lovesick puppy look on his face.
after all of you were called to the gym to take the photos, they had all the players and coaching staff take their photos first before any managers and front office staff had their turns. while you waited for your turn, you were talking with the other manager so was an ex player of the team and had recently retired due to permanent injury to his arm.
“so how do you know Hoshiumi?” he asked as he saw the wave Hoshiumi was giving you. you smiled and waved back, “he was a friend of mine through high school and we just kept in contact since. Kourai and I are basically best friends if I’m being honest,” you explained.
he gave you a look before giving out a belly laugh, “just best friends? you have to got to be kidding. there’s more to your relationship with Hoshiumi than just best friends,” he admitted. you were a bit taken back by his answer as you asked him to explain, “come on, it’s not obvious? the decoy is in love with you. he follows you everywhere and has heart eyes for you and I can sense the feeling either is mutual or it’s starting to be on your end.”
you sat in silence, debating whether or not what he was saying was true. you had never taken into account romantic feelings Hoshiumi could have for you and vice versa. you knew deep down, you did harbor feelings for Hoshiumi but up until this point, you had never put it to the forefront of your brain.
“managers! it’s your turns now!” the photographer said. you nodded, going up to the small set up they had.
they had you do a bunch of different poses. one photo of just you smiling, another of you holding a volleyball, and a few with the other manager on the team. they had informed you that this year, they would be displaying team player photos along with head manager photos in the front of building, right outside of the gym to show appreciation to the entire team.
after the photo’s were finished, your head was still playing the conversation you had earlier. the idea of dating Hoshiumi did not sound so bad in the long run and you knew that it now wouldn’t come off as a surprise if you did in fact show feelings to him.
“Kou, what are you doing tonight?” you asked as he helped you with your bag after practice. he shook his head, saying nothing, “wanna come over? I wanna pig out on food before the season officially starts,” you giggled seeing his excited face as he grabbed your wrist and practically dragged you over to his car, exclaiming you both could get food and snacks.
the night came down to you watching a few movies from both of your childhood and basically talking/snacking the night away. it eventually got to the point where you moved closer to Hoshiumi, trying to find warmth as your AC was on full blast and you both were too lazy to get the blankets you had underneath your couch to actually get warm.
“hey Kou,” you said, trying to get his attention. he looked down to you, a warm smile on his face, “would you ever...be interested in dating? I heard a few members of the team saying that you liked me and for a while, I didn’t want to believe that but I figured there was no harm in asking because I totally feel the same,” you finally confessed.
Hoshiumi sat there, mouth wide in surprise as your heart basically fell your ass. your thoughts were immediately plagued with the idea that you had ruined your entire relationship with him but that was quickly put to rest as grabbed your closer and held your face as softly as ever before placing a kiss on both your cheeks before reaching your lips.
“honestly, I was about to ask you out tonight too. I’ve been having these feelings for a while now and I’m glad you finally confessed. I’ve truthfully liked you since the night I saw you with Atsumu but I didn’t want to make it seem as though I was being pushy.”
you laughed, pushing yourself away from him a bit as he dipped you down once again and kissed you again. you ran your fingers through his hair as he kissed your neck a bit and parts of your upper chest.
“you’re the best. I literally thought the best day of my life was the day I got the job for the Adler’s but this beats it by far!” he exclaimed, hugging you now. you laughed, shaking your head at his excitement, “I could say the same,” you giggled as you kissed him again.
a few weeks finally passed as the season was in full swing now. you were working a few days a week and going out on the days you had off with Kourai. the only dreadful part in all of this was that the Adler’s were playing Msby soon and you knew that you would in fact be seeing Atsumu during, before, and after the game.
Hoshiumi could see the slight nervousness and panic on your face the day of the game against the Black Jackals. you weren’t as excited as you were usually were and you were responding to the team in snippets and very short sentences. the team could sense your shift in attitude but didn’t bother to question it.
“hey, you okay?” Hoshiumi asked, pulling you to the side a few minutes before warm ups. you gave him a questioning look, “I can see you’re nervous and I’m pretty sure it’s probably because of Atsumu being here,” he assumed as you reluctantly agreed.
he sighed, bringing you in for a hug, “you don’t have to work today. I can make up an excuse that you got sick and say you’re in your office watching the game,” he said. you shook your head, “no, it would be immature of me to miss a game because of that fucking idiot. I’ll be okay, I promise,” you whispered, giving him a kiss of reassurance before letting him go.
a few feet behind, Atsumu had saw the entire interaction happen. his heart was admittedly broken, seeing the way you were kissing and hugging Hoshiumi. he hadn’t known that you were working with Scheweiden nor did he know that you were even dating Hoshiumi.
when the team had walked into the gym, he had saw your photo in the hallway entering the gym. your smile was one he missed and he felt himself get angry all over again. it had been months since the breakup but you had yet to unblock him from any social media so all of this news at once broke him.
the game was a lot more intense than they assumed it would have been. Hoshiumi and Atsumu playing to 100% and even getting into small scuffles. you had saw the interactions and knew it was probably because of you but were arguing when it came down to plays so it didn’t look as immature on the court.
ultimately, Schweiden won the game, beating the Jackal’s by a landslide in their last set. you were smiling at Hoshiumi as the game ended, bringing him a water and giving him a kiss before handing off the waters to Ushijima and Kageyama next. you had ran out of the gym for a few seconds to refill waters for a few players when you ran into the last person you expect.
“if you can excuse me Miya, I need to refill these,” you said, not even looking at him in the eye. he moved out of the way, seeing thew way you refilled the bottles as quickly as possible. once you were done, you were about to head back into the gym when he stopped you, “how are you?” he asked shyly.
you sighed, “fine Miya,” you said curtly. Atsumu growled in annoyance, “are you together with-,” “with me!” you heard Hoshiumi’s voice scream through the hall. you smiled at the sight of him as he pushed you behind him and sizing up the much taller Atsumu.
“this had nothing to do with you, Hoshiumi.”
“oh but it does! she’s my girlfriend, our manager, and a member of the team so whatever you need to say to her, you can say to me!” you laughed at Hoshiumi’s confidence as Atsumu looked at him, rage filling his eyes, “what? what’re you gonna do? hit me? you’d get suspended and look like a complete idiot to the entire V-league!”
“do we have an issue?” Ushijima asked, looking at Atsumu and Hoshiumi as Sakusa followed him, “no issue at all,” Atsumu gritted as Hoshiumi wore a proud grin on his face.
“that’s great to hear. come on ( your name ). Hoshiumi you better be in the gym in the next minute.”
“lets go Atsumu, you don’t win anything out of creating a scene,” Sakusa said as he grabbed his friend and tried dragging him out of the hallway. Hoshiumi waved at Atsumu as cockily as possible, “remember Atsumu! not only did we win the game but I also won your girl!” he screamed.
Atsumu went to jump but was pulled back by Sakusa and Bokuto as you walked out of the gym again to grab Hoshiumi. he grabbed you by the wrist and kissed you in front everyone that was in the hallway. Atsumu could hear Bokuto telling him to calm down but he wanted nothing more than to run over to Hoshiumi and kick his ass before reclaiming you as his again.

26 Days | Wilbur Soot
Tumblr media
30 days to fall in love with someone? Sounds easy right? It would be if that person wasn’t so unbelievably annoying in almost every sense.
You’re not sure how you found yourself in this situation, but you were positive there was no backing out now…
Series Warnings: Mostly fluff and angst, and a very poorly constructed enemies to lovers plot.
Word Count: 2264
Masterlist Series Masterlist
26 Days
God, you hated him so much! You wanted to scream it from the top of a building how much you truly hated Wilbur. But you couldn’t
Lately, no matter what you did or said on stream, he always had a problem with it. You had been streaming Minecraft together, on the SMP. You were just messing around, no lore this time. You suggested you made a house together in L’manburg, no matter what you did, the two of you couldn't agree on a material, you wanted to build it out of birch wood and cobblestone but he insisted on dark oak logs and spruce planks would look better together. You gave up and let him have what he wanted because he was so persistent and you knew had it gone on you would have blown up on him in front of all your viewers, and that’s the last thing you needed right now.
You were up late, last night, planning out when you were going to meet up, and just a few hours ago the two of you got along perfectly. Laughing over the phone as you were laying in bed, chatting mindlessly. You wondered what happened between then and now.  You and Will planned to meet up in the middle of next week, you were going to drive down to see him and stay at his place. Although you brought up getting a hotel room, Wilbur insisted you stay with him, too tired to resist you agreed, but now you're starting to think maybe getting a hotel room might be for the best.
You and Wilbur ended your streams at the same time, and you sighed as soon as you were sure it was off.
“What?” Wil asked, still in the voice chat.  “What was that back there? Why the hell are you so disagreeable?” You let out.  Will scoffed, “Me? You’re the one who kept on insisting birch and cobble when that wouldn't even fit in L’manburg!”  “Jesus Christ,” You sighed, leaning back in your chair and running your hands down your face. “How in the hell are we going to get through this month?”  “Maybe you should stop being so uptight and argumentative.” Wil shot  “Fuck you,” You mumbled before clicking out of the chat and leaving your PC.
You needed to get out of the house and away from any form of contact you had with Wilbur and social media. You had been cooped up inside your apartment for close to a week at this point, maybe some fresh air would do you good.  You grabbed a jacket and keys before leaving the apartment, leaving your phone charging on your desk. You didn’t want to bring it with you because you didn't even want to think about getting a text or any kind of notification from Wilbur right now, you knew you would have blown up at him completely.
The weather was just beginning to turn nice, the air was warm but the wind still had a slight winter chill to it, although all the snow was long gone Jack Frost still made his lurking presence known.  Buildings lined the walls of a small square common area where teens mostly hung out after school and on weekends. The square had a fountain in the middle of it, the water had been shut off for the winter but with the warm temperatures from the last month, it had recently been turned back on.  You sat on the ledge of the brick wall around the bottom pool for the fountain, looking at everyone passing through on this nice Wednesday evening. Older couples out for an evening walk, middle-aged business people speed walking their way home from the office, teens scattering the open area, sitting on blankets and laughing in their small groups of friends. You found watching people be interesting, it made you think.
We are all living our own lives at the same time and most of us on this small planet don't even know of one another, or if you know of them you don't know them, you only know their name. It's weird how that works.  It's astounding to think about though, what are the chances of meeting exactly who you did, at the time you did, and what a gamble it is for them to stick around.
You had been sitting on the fountain for close to five minutes and when the wind had just started to pick up, sending a slight shiver down your spine.  Your mind was clearer now and you were no longer angry with Wilbur, it was stupid what you fought about and as much as it pained you to admit, he was right.  You were being stubborn and didn’t take into account the surrounding aesthetic of the area. It was your fault that the disagreement broke out in the first place.
You got home and saw your phone had been basically blown up by notifications from Wilbur, asking if you were really mad at him or if it was for a bit that you took too far, but when you didn't answer he slightly snapped you, asking if you were okay and where you were.  You answered immediately, scared he might have been worrying.
Hey! You typed, Sorry I went for a walk after stream, needed to get out.
There you are! He responded within seconds, I got worried.
I’m okay, I left my  phone home, needed a break from the internet and things. You know?
You mean you needed a break from me?
You could have sworn, had you been on a video chat with him you would have seen him frowning. You weren't sure what about that message got you, but you found yourself almost with tears in your eyes, you didn't mean to hurt him and you hoped you didn't -what were you talking about. Wilbur didn't mean anything to you, he was just someone you kept in contact with because you were in the same friend group.
No, you typed, not the whole thing at least. I just needed to clear my head, and i'm sorry for being such a dick on stream, I didn't mean to cause that, and you were right about the blocks.
You sighed when hitting the send button, never in a million years did you think you would be telling Wilbur, The Wilbur Soot, that he was right about something. I’m sorry.
Christ Y/N it’s alright, really. Just don't scare me like that again, I was starting to think something bad happened to you.
I didn't mean to scare you, Wil.
You found yourself feeling bad about leaving him in the dark while you were out, you didn't mean to worry him, you just didn't want to hurt him by blowing up at him.
Still call tonight, yeah? He messaged
You nodded, even though he couldn't see you. Yeah, I'd like that very much. I'll call you before I go to sleep.
In the time that you had been a fake couple, you and Will had started calling while you were getting ready to fall asleep in bed, you usually ended up falling asleep before he did, the sound of his raspy sleepy voice lulled you to sleep like there was no tomorrow. You'd wake up in the morning to find that Wil left the call going, you thought it was cute. Sure it might have been some highschool relationship stuff but it was cute nonetheless.
-
“Hello, Y/N” Will said through the phone, his voice sounding tired and soft  “Hi Wil,” You smiled, giggling slightly. Although you had just been on a voice chat with him earlier you loved hearing his voice when he was tired, it sounded like stirring honey into your morning cup of tea, or reading an old book, but specifically an old book that smells of must and age of being stored at the back of your grandparents bookshelf that hadn't been touched in years.  “You sound tired,” you mumbled, laying down with the phone resting on your stomach as you looked up at the ceiling.  “I am,” He hummed, “You don't sound very tired though, did you drink a lot of coffee today?” He asked  “A little more than usual, but I’ll be fine.” You sighed, your voice almost coming out in a whisper. There was something about talking to Wilbur before going to sleep that made you feel soft and loved, but you couldn't put your finger on exactly what it was. Maybe it was the thought of having someone there, or maybe it was just as simple as it was Wilbur and it was you.
“Are you excited for next week?” He asked  “Right now it feels too far away to be real,”  “Who’s talking here, is it you you or is it us you?” He asked, unsure if your thoughts were good or bad “Its both,” You said. “It feels so far away to me right now, but so close at the same time and a side of me cant wait for it to get here, so we can finally meet in person. But another side of me feels like it’s good that it feels so far away because maybe something will come up and I wont be able to make it and i don’t want to think that or even say it because thats a terrible thing to say but you know how it is.” You rambled, trying your best to explain it to him in a way that he would fully understand the crossroads your mind is at, and not sound like a dick while doing it.
Although you couldn’t see it, you could tell he was nodding along. “How about we make a deal, alright?” He started, “In these night chats, we don’t have to put on the face of the characters we play on stream and through out the day, Alright?”  You rolled over to your side, putting an arm under your head and setting your phone on the mattress by your head. “I like that. Deal.”  “Okay now tell me how you really feel about all of this”
All the thoughts ran though your head a mile a minute, you didn’t know where to start honestly, you had a lot of thoughts but if you really looked at it and narrowed it down most of them talked circles around the same thing just using different words.
“You promise what ever I say wont hurt you or make you flip out?” You asked  “Swear on Tommy’s life.” You could sense the smirk that tugged at the side of his mouth when he said that. “Okay,” You started with a sigh. “So I din’t really know where I stand on it anymore, at the beginning I thought this was going to be insufferable, but now that we’ve gotten into it for a few days, you’re really not that bad, but I’m still on the fence.”  “I hope come meeting, your opinion has changed a little bit more. But I do understand where you’re coming from. Its weird being able to talk off stream and such with you and not be fighting twenty-four-seven. It’s nice, I feel like I’m getting to know you better.”
He was right, you had told Wilbur more in the last five days than you had ever in your years of knowing him. You were surprised to find out that he’s actually not as bad as you thought, but you would never tell him that bit.
“Do you have to put on a character when we do those streams and such, Wilbur?” You asked,
“I don’t think I do, and if I do it I don’t know what I’m doing it. It’s just something thats easy to do, I’m not sure how to explain it.” He replied “Do you have to when we’re talking like this?”  “No. Not at all, this is 100% me.”
You’re not sure what part hit you the most, when he said he didn’t have to put on a full character mask when showing your ‘relationship’ to the public, or if this Wilbur, the tired one was the real Wilbur who you've been falling asleep with for the past three nights. You weren’t sure what you though you wanted to hear when asking him that but it definitely wasn't what you go, but maybe it was what you needed.
The line went dead for a couple of minutes, you had the radio playing softly in the background to help you sleep better, and Wilbur seemed to be enjoying listening to you breathe through the phone.
“Hey Wil,” You yawned  “HM?” He hummed, you could tell he had his eyes closed with the phone by his face, like he did on one of your face time calls the other day.  “I’m soon gonna pass-out,” You whispered  “Thats alright, go to sleep. Get your rest, I’ll be here when you wake up, love.” He was so sweet it almost made your heart hurt.  “Okay” You nodded, but don’t hang up, okay? I like it when you’re here with me when I fall asleep.”
You struggled to keep your eyelids open, feeling heavy and light all at the same time. You felt so light it was as if you could float away but you were too heavy and weighed down to get up and move, even if you absolutely had to move for whatever reason you don't think you could have.
“Goodnight Wilbur, love you.” You mumbled into your pillow  “Sweet dreams.”

Frankie knew this had to be a dream even though he was sure he was awake. The woman of his dreams was in his arms and she held onto his arm like a child holding a stuffed animal. He didn’t want to move—it wasn’t out of fear of waking her up, it was because he didn’t want everything to disappear just yet. He wanted her to keep holding onto him, he wanted to stay this close to her.
The memories of yesterday come floating back to him and he smiles to himself. They made love. They said ‘I love you'. And then they made love again. It was real. It had to be. Frankie touched her gently with his free hand, drawing little patterns on the bare skin of her back. She had the most beautiful skin he had ever seen. His was rough and callused and scarred. He felt as though he had no business touching his rough skin to her softness but she didn’t seem to mind.
“Frankie,” she mumbled and he froze. Did he wake her?
“It’s me, baby.” Even if she wasn’t awake, he wanted her to know that. “I’m here.” When she started to play with his fingers, he knew she was awake.
“Big hands,” she said quietly, placing her palm in his to see how much smaller her hand was compared to his. “They’re lovely.” She proceeded to kiss each of his fingers. He blushed behind her and he hoped she didn’t turn to look at him just yet.
“Are they?” he asked, kissing the back of her neck then moving down to her spine. Something about her giving him the tiniest bit of praise…
“Yes. Big, strong, lovely hands. Rough yet so gentle…like you.”
He closed his eyes and sighed, trying to keep certain parts of him under control but she kept talking and he lost any control he did have.
“These hands have been through war yet they’re so soft with me. How do you do it?” she asked. He had a feeling she wasn’t looking for a spoken answer. Like yesterday, she wanted him to show her.
He kissed her shoulder as he slowly trailed his hand down her body—breasts, stomach, hips, and then the one place that made her make the sweetest sounds. He took his time; it was a lazy kind of loving that he always wanted to experience but never had the chance to. She guided his hand as it played between her legs, showing him exactly what she wanted.
“Yes,” she whispered. She finally looked back at him, reaching up with her free hand and running her fingers through his hair before pulling him in for a kiss. “Frankie.” That soft, sweet whimper sent a pleasurable chill down his spine.
He took his hand from between her legs and grabbed her thigh so he could move her leg slightly but she stopped him then turned to him and pushed him onto his back.
“What?” he asked with a smile. She only kissed him then began moving lower. “What are you doing?” He knew exactly what she was doing but he wasn’t sure what else to say. She was hidden under the sheets now. He could make out her movements and feel them as well. He knew what was coming but the feeling of her mouth around him still surprised him.
“Oh,” he gasped, his hands pulling at the sheets under him. He squeezed his eyes shut and bit his lip embarrassed of the sounds he might make. Her head bobbed up and down on him and part of him wanted to see exactly what she was doing. The other part knew that if he did see, it would be over before it started. He pulled the sheet away anyway and her eyes met his.
Frankie had been in all sorts of life or death situations and had gotten out of them but this…this was killing him in the best way and he didn’t want to stop it. If he died this way, so be it. His hand shook as he lifted it and brought it to her head. He was careful about how he placed it, not wanting to seem like he was trying to force her to do anything. She moved faster once she felt his hand and he accidentally gripped her hair, letting go as soon as he realized what he had done.
“S-sorry…I…oh…” She didn’t stop. In fact, she seemed to be spurred on by his actions. He sat up slightly and watched, touching her cheek before bringing his hand back to her head. “Jesus,” he whispered, feeling that overwhelming sensation. She took him into her mouth as deep as she could and cursed loudly before pulling her off.
“Wha-"
“Fucking Christ…come here!” He pulled her up and kissed her hard not caring that he could taste a bit of himself on her tongue. “Do you know what you do to me?” he asked against her lips. She looked down then back at him.
“I think so,” she giggled.
“Do something for me?” he asked and she nodded. “Lay like you were earlier.”
“Okay.” She kissed him before rolling onto her side. He put his arm around her again but immediately moved his hand down between her legs. She pushed back against him as soon as he touched her.
“Wow.” He wasn’t expecting her to be so ready and all from her pleasuring him. He moved his hand only to position her leg over his then returned to what he was doing. “Show me.” She guided his hand again, rubbing and caressing herself with his hand just the way she liked. While she did that, he eased himself inside her and she whined.
“Oh God!” she moaned pushing herself onto him the rest of the way. They both cried out when he was fully seated within her. She turned her head to kiss him as he slowly thrust his hips, feeling her stretch around him. His other arm was under her but he was able to bend it to pull her closer. He whispered sweet nothings in her ear and she whispered back.
“I love you so fucking much,” he said as she looked into his eyes.
“I love you too.” Another kiss. She couldn’t get enough. “I love you, I love you, I love you.”
He thrusted a little faster, making her mouth drop open. He could feel her getting tighter around him and he knew he wouldn’t last much longer. She held his hand still against her then cried out, coming around him. Just like last night, he followed behind her, pressing himself against her with a loud groan. And again, like last night, he wanted to stay just like that.
“Did you fall asleep?” she asked weakly.
“Mm mm.” But his eyes were closed. He could fall asleep just like this.
“What should we do today?”
“Nothing.” He could spend the day holding her and making love to her and that would be enough.
“Let’s take a bath.”
“A bath?” He carefully pulled out of her and sighed. He was used to quick showers and that was about it. A bath was a luxury.
“Yeah. Come on.” She rolled out of bed and walked to the bathroom to start the bath. By the time he gets the strength to get out of bed she’s already in the bath waiting for him. “There you are.”
“Here I am.” He steps in and sits between her legs. He would have preferred it the other way around but this was nice too. She immediately wrapped her arms around him.
“I just remembered that there are a few things I have to do today…” The change in her tone worried him.
“What?”
“I…have to change my name on a lot of things…bank accounts, driver’s license…you know, since I’m officially divorced now…” She sighed and rested her chin on his shoulder.
“I could go with you,” he offered.
“Nah, it’s okay. You go home and let everyone know you’re still alive. I’ll be okay.”
“You sure?” He turned his head to look at her.
“Yes, my love, I’m sure.”
“Heh. ‘My love’. I like that.” They both bathed, helping each other here and there even if help wasn’t needed. By the time they got out they were all wrinkly.
*
She dressed slowly, sometimes stopping completely just sitting on her bed staring out at nothing and that worried him.
“You okay?” he asked.
“Yeah.” She looked at him and smiled. “I finally get to see you in clothes today since, you know, you never got a chance to put them on yesterday.”
“Whose fault is that?” He pulled the shirt over his head.
“Yours! Mr. ‘clothes are overrated’.” Her smile could light up a room.
“I love your smile.” He sat beside her and she put her head on his shoulder. “I know you’re tired of me asking but are you sure you don’t need me to go with you today?”
“I’m sure. I promise.”
“Okay.” He kissed the top of her head and took her hand so they could walk downstairs together. “You’ll call me if you need anything, right?”
“Yes.”
“I hate saying goodbye. Sounds like I’m never gonna see you again.” He stopped at the door.
“Then we won’t say goodbye. We’ll say see you later.” She kissed him then bumped his nose with hers.
“Okay. See you later, mi amor.” With one last lingering kiss he walked out and she watched from the door until he drove away. He looked in his rear-view mirror until he couldn’t see her anymore. He missed her already.
*
Frankie spent the next few hours doing work around his house. He suddenly had the urge to clean up and fix things. Santiago stopped by and he told him everything. He seemed to be happier than Frankie at the news. His phone hadn’t rung once and he didn’t even receive a text from her. He could only hope that she was okay.
When the sunset and the moon shone brightly overhead, he decided to call. He couldn’t wait anymore. She answered after the second ring.
“Hello?” She sounded dejected and as if she had been crying.
“Hey, it’s me.”
“Hey me,” she teased but it wasn’t her usual tone.
“How did everything go?” he asked and she went quiet. When he heard her sniffle, he made up his mind right away. He had to go to her. “I’m coming up there right now, okay?”
“Okay,” she cried.
*
The drive should have taken him closer to an hour but he drove a little faster than he should have to get to her. She was never going to be sad longer than necessary if he had anything to do about it.
He pulled up to the house and sat in the truck for a moment, letting it idle while he dug into his pocket and pulled out what he had found earlier. He put the cassette in and turned the volume up as loud as it could go before stepping out of the truck.
Come a little bit closer
Hear what I have to say…
He waited. She would hear it. Their song. Well, one of them at least. He put his hands in his pockets and whistled along.
“Come on, baby,” he said quietly.
Just like children sleepin’
We could dream this night away
The door opened and she stood there in all her glory. She looked tired but she still smiled and her eyes shone with tears that had yet to fall.
“How did you…” She lingered by the door.
“Found it when I was cleaning up at home.” He wasn’t going to force her to come to him. He had nothing but time for her.
But there’s a full moon risin'
Let’s go dancin’ in the light…
Frankie looked up at the sky and she did as well. “Remember what you used to tell me?” he asked.
“What?”
“That no matter where we were, when we look up, we’re looking at the same moon.” He looked at her though she was still looking up. “That always kept me going, you know?”
“Really?” she choked out. She finally walked out to him.
We know where the music’s playin'
Let’s go out and feel the night…
“Really.” He took her into his arms and swayed with her.
“Such a romantic.” She smiled a real smile for him and that was the greatest gift he could receive tonight. “I can’t believe you remembered this song.”
“Are you kidding? You loved this song.” He lowered his voice. “I think we even made out to it a few times.”
“We did.” The light wind carried her giggle.
Frankie sung along:
“Because I’m still in love with you
I want to see you dance again
Because I’m still in love with you
On this harvest moon.”
“What a lovely voice,” she said.
“You’re teasing me, aren’t you?” He looked down at her and she smirked before nodding. “Fine, I’ll let Neil Young do the singing.”
But then she began singing:
“When we were strangers
I watched you from afar
When we were lovers
I loved you with all my heart.”
“Much better than me,” Frankie said. He twirled her once then pulled her back in close again.
“You’re a wonderful dancer.”
“Gotta make up for the shitty singing.” They both laughed at that. “I love hearing you laugh.”
“I love…I love you.” She rested her head on his chest and closed her eyes as they continued to sway.
But now it’s gettin' late
And the moon is climbin' high
I want to celebrate
See it shinin' in your eyes
“I love you too.” He kissed the top of her head.
“You told Santiago, didn’t you?”
“How’d you know?” He looked at her.
“He’s been texting me all day about it,” she laughed. “He’s been rooting for us since the beginning.”
“He was right the whole damn time. I’ll never hear the end of it,” Frankie complained.
“Well, at least it’s a good thing to be right about.” She shrugged.
“Yeah, guess you’re right.”
“You hungry?” she asked.
“Starving.” Just then his stomach rumbled.
“Obviously. Let’s get take out. I have wine in the house,” she said and he made a face. “And beer.”
“I can’t think of anything more romantic than that.” He let her go reluctantly so he could go turn the radio off. As he made his way back to her, he stopped and admired her just standing there. She wasn’t dressed in anything spectacular but she was still the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. The moonlight seemed to shine directly on her and make her glow like some ethereal being. She was an angel. She had to be. The stars twinkled above them but he had his own right here right now.
“You comin'?” She walked to the door and he nodded following her into the house.
Because I’m still in love with you
On this harvest moon.

from  the  moment  jade  left  theo  standing  in  the  flat  that  day,  it  felt  like  her  life  had  ended  up  riding  a  roller-coaster.  so  many  ups  and  downs,  she  could  barely  keep  up  with  them.  on  the  one  hand,  things  were  alright—  the  nightclub  boss  at  loudhouse  had  jumped  at  the  idea  of  having  her  back  as  the  dj,  and  even  promised  her  some  slots  for  when  they  were  to  start  hosting  live  music  in  the  summertime.  she’d  even  started  to  think  about  starting  a  new  band  or  trying  to  work  on  some  solo  music.  on  the  other  hand,  there  was ...  the  theo  thing.  and  of  course,  it  was  a  lot  to  have  to  get  over,  to  say  the  least.  but,  she  was  working  through  it.  she’d  texted  to  apologize  for  leaving  so  abruptly  ( albeit  with  little  explanation )  and  had  every  intention  to  follow  up  on  the  fleeting  promise  she  had  made  on  her  way  out  of  the  flat—  to  take  her  and  freddie  for  a  drink  or  two,  in  a  week’s  time.
saturday  13th  february  2021  —  2:52pm
she  wasn’t  due  to  meet  them  until  around  six,  but  she  feared  that  if  she  had  let  herself  sit  around  and  anticipate  it  any  longer,  she’d  have  overthought  it  to  the  point  of  backing  out—  and  that  wasn’t  jade.
maybe  for  some  people,  daydrinking  was  an  activity  for  the  summertime.  beer  garden  weather  on  bank  holidays.  but  jade  didn’t  live  by  any  conventions  that  would  hold  back  her  desires.  it’d  be  fine.  she’d  go  to  her  favourite  bar  on  the  promenade  and  perch  on  a  barstool  chatting  away  to  her  friend  who  works  there  and  sinking  strawberry  mojitos  until  she  had  enough  liquid  confidence  for  the  meeting  with  theo  and  freddie.  pretty  good  plan,  she  thought.
after  a  last  minute  once-over  in  the  mirror  paired  with  an  internal  pep  talk,  she  headed  down  the  stairs  that  led  out  of  the  flat  and  opened  the  door,  only  to  be  met  by  somebody  already  standing  there,  hand  hovering  over  the  intercom  buttons—
“ jesus christ— !! “  is  chorused  by  the  both  of  them.
surprise  turns  into  dumbfoundedness  which  turns  into  an  apologetic  smile  on  the  face  that  jade  now  looks  up  at.  the  last  one  she  wanted  to  see.
Tumblr media
 “ y’alright ??  did  you  know  i  was  out  here  or  summat’ ??  see  me  out  the  window  or  what,  were  y’just  being  psychic ?? ”
“ archie, ”  she  breathes,  trying  to  calm  the  slow  burning  rage  mixed  with  anxiety  which  now  rises  in  her  chest.  “ what  the  fuck  are  you  doing  here ?? “
Tumblr media
“ right,  hear  me  out,  yeah ??  we  came  home—  all  of  us.  been  back  since  what—  the  first  of  this  month ??  layla’s  been  sayin’  how  much  she  wants  to  see  you  and  that  but  i  was  waiting  for  the  right  time  to  come  and  apologize  properly— ”
“ arch, ”  she  interrupts  him,  ushering  him  out  of  the  way  while  she  locks  the  door  and  starts  off  down  the  street.  she  doesn’t  need  this,  truly.  it  doesn’t  even  feel  real,  and  maybe  she  can  pretend  it  isn’t  if  she  just  leaves  him  standing  there  as  quickly  as  she  can.  “ i  don’t  have  time  for  this.  i’m  off  out  for  the  day. ”
“ j—  i  came  to  say  sorry, ”  he  calls  after  her  and  gently  spins  her  around  by  her  shoulders.
“ look,  idiot—  i’ve  heard  it.  it  doesn’t  hold  any  more  weight  here  than  it  did  in  london.  you  literally  fucked  up  the  one  chance  i  had  of  my  dreams  coming  true.  and  hugo’s,  and  layla’s.  it  was  their  decision  to  forgive  you  and  that’s  fine  but  i’m  not  gonna  play  besties  with  you  just  because  we’ve  both  moved  home. “
she’s  impressed  by  her  ability  to  shut  archie  down,  even  if  she  did  it  while  her  hands  shook  from  rage.  deep  down,  she  knew  they’d  all  come  back  to  hitheside  soon  enough  and  she’d  be  lying  to  herself  if  she  were  to  deny  that  she’s  been  psyching  herself  up  for  the  fact  that  they  would  have  to  cross  paths  again  eventually.  so,  really,  she’d  been  prepared  for  this.
“ look—  where  are  you  off ??  if  you  can’t  do  right  now,  can  we  meet  later  or  summat ??  i  wanna  talk  everything  over.  seriously,  jade. ”
she  looks  at  him,  thinking  for  a  moment  and  then  sighs.  “ just  come  on.  we’re  going  to  brass  monkey. ”
later  that  day  —  3:15pm
she’s  annoyed  that  she  let  this  happen,  but  her  mind  has  already  found  a  multitude  of  reasons  to  justify  it.  one,  she  could  use  the  company,  since  she  was  out  and  about  this  early  when  her  actual  plans  didn’t  start  for  another  few  hours.  two,  if  anyone  could  enable  her  to  sink  cocktails  in  broad  daylight,  it  was  archie—  of  all  the  things  he  had  been  to  her  over  the  years,  admittedly  he  made  a  great  drinking  buddy.  three,  she  was  curious  to  hear  what  he  had  to  say  for  himself,  in  all  honesty.  she’d  never  forget  what  he’d  done,  or  even  fully  forgive  him  for  it,  but  since  it  was  so  long  ago  that  the  defining  incident  with  the  contract  had  happened,  maybe  it  could  be  freeing  for  her  to  stop  harboring  so  much  resentment  over  it,  as  long  as  he  gave  a  good  enough  shot  at  apologising—
and,  surprisingly,  here  he  was  doing  just  that.
“ —i  know  it  was  fucked  up.  i  know.  i  just  think,  like  ...  nobody  gives  you  an  instruction  manual  for  being  an  up-and-coming  musician,  do  they ??  you’ve  gotta  admit,  everyone  around  us  was  doing  all  that  same  shite—  partying  and  getting  off  their  faces  and  everythin’,  and  they  weren’t  facing  consequences.  think  i  just  ...  thought  it  could  be  the  same  for  us—  well,  me.  i  dunno’.  i  know  it  was  fucking  selfish.  honestly,  i  do. ”
it’s  the  first  time  jade’s  ever  heard  archie  explicitly  admit  to  one  of  his  faults.  “ it  was,  you’re  not  wrong  but  i  s’pose  there’s  not  a  lot  we  can  do  about  it  now, ”  she  deadpans.
“ i’m  ...  sorry,  jade.  n’  it’s  not  just  a  word  to  try  and  shut  you  up  this  time—  i’ve  really  been  tryna’  work  on  everything.  and...  i’ve  missed  you,  so  much. ”
it’s  a  start,  and  she’d  be  lying  to  herself  if  she  were  to  act  like  the  confession  he  tags  on  the  end  isn’t  a  comforting  thing  to  hear  at  a  time  when  she  feels  like  her  loneliness  could  consume  her.  “ ...  alright.  fair  enough.  i’ve  missed  you  too,  a  bit. ” missed  the  attention  and  the  thrill  of  their  on-off  relationship,  maybe,  more  than  him  as  a  person  ...  “ anyway—  how  are  you  finding  being  back  here,  then ?? ”  she  starts,  pretending  everything  is  okay  between  them  now  as  she  takes  a  sip  from  her  drink.
that  evening  —  6:15pm
he’s  not  supposed  to  still  be  here.  how  embarrassing.  it  was  tragic  how  easily  a  few  drinks  could  make  archie  blind  to  how  much  his  presence  was  becoming  an  annoyance,  and  at  this  point  he’s  just  lingering  like  a  persistent  fly  around  rotten  fruit.  this  is  what  she  gets  for  taking  a  cheap  shot  at  distracting  herself  with  his  company.  still,  jade’s  comfortably  tipsy  now,  and  this  makes  her  find  archie  a  lot  more  bearable.
“ no,  i’m  being  serious,  arch !! ”  she  presses,  trying  to  stifle  a  nervous  laugh  as  she  peers  at  him  from  across  the  booth,  because  a  laugh  would  only  encourage  him  to  continue  taking  her  words  as  a  joke.  “ they’ll  be  here  any  minute—  you’re  already  fucking  merry,  i’m  not  having  you  embarrassing  me.  you’re  like  an  old  man  who  doesn’t  know  when  to  go  home  from  the  pub  ...  go !!  we  can  catch  up  later  this  week.  you’ve  had  me  for  hours,  time  to  share  me  with  someone  else. ”
god.  her  words  regrettably  come  out  like  endearing  teasing—  god  forbid,  flirting—  rather  than  the  genuine  instructions  she’s  trying  to  give,  to  make  him  leave.
“ ohhh,  shut  up,  jv.  it’s  been  ages  since  i  saw  theo,  be  nice  to  catch  up  wi’  her.  anyway,  i’m  dying  to  meet  this  fella  of  hers.  he  looks  like  somethin’  out  an  old  hollywood  film !! ”
Tumblr media
yeah,  i  know.  don’t  remind  me.  “ right,  well  i’m  sure  you’ll  see  him  around.  i’m  bein’  serious,  arch.  fuck  off  for  a  bit,  yeah ?? ” “ they  won’t  mind  me  tagging  along,  and  besides— ... ”
whatever  archie  continues  to  say,  jade  is  immediately  distracted  from  as  her  attention  turns  to  the  source  of  the  gust  of  cold  air  that  just  blew  in  from  outside.  for  fuck’s  sake.  too  late.
she  wants  the  booth  to  swallow  her  whole  as  the  picture-perfect  couple  quickly  find  her  on  their  look  around  the  bar.  there’s  nothing  she  can  do  but  instinctively  raise  her  palm  to  wave  at  them.  archie  follows  her  gaze  and  turns  around  to  see  them  walking  over,  which  prompts  him  to  move  to  jade’s  side  of  the  booth  to  make  room  for  them.  he  sits  uncomfortably  close,  his  arm  resting  over  the  backrest  and  lingering  near  her  shoulders.
“ oh,  y’alright,  theo ?!  long  time,  no  see !!  hope  you  two  don’t  mind  if  i  join  you  lot ??  i  ran  into  jade  earlier  and  thought  i  might  as  well  stick  around  and  meet—”  he  diverts  his  gaze  to  freddie.  “ fred,  right ??  nice  to  meet  you,  man. ”
jade  clears  her  throat.  no  way  out  of  it  now.  she  tries  to  make  a  face  to  them  that  conveys  the  fact  that  this  was  not  planned,  but  isn’t  even  sure  if  they  notice  as  they  slide  into  the  opposite  bench  of  the  booth  with  confused  looks  painted  on  their  faces.
kill.  me.  now.
“ helloooo !!  yeah,  erm,  didn’t  even  know  arch  was  back  in  hithe  but  now  he’s  here,  sooo  ...  hope  it’s  alright  that  he  tagged  along  ...  shall  i  get  a  round  in,  maybe ?? ”

darling (part three)
Tumblr media
God, he was so fucking annoying.
part one part two
word count: 2,550
notes: hello everyone! i’m back with part 3 to the darling series based on an anon request :) it’s pretty light and just fun and easy to write plus i just really like the dynamic between them hahaha. my situation is not ideal with accounts rn but i hope you all have found me at my new home! i’m still taking requests and working on a looong fic that i’m really excited about. anyway, hope you enjoy :))
“Alright Van, you gonna tell me what you were really doing last night?”
Your ears all but perked up from the kitchen, pausing for a moment before you poured some milk into your tea.
“What do you mean, mate?”
“Well, you told me you were heading home early because you were tired but I happened to run into Tommy from upstairs this morning after I got back from Amelia’s and he had some complaints about… the noise,” Larry said, a smirk evident just from the tone of his voice.
You stepped into the living room, handing a cup of tea to Jack who thanked you with a smile, and sat on the couch next to Larry.
“Wait, what? So you’re telling me you had a girl over last night?” Jack shot at Van, shaking his head. “You told me you weren’t feeling good.”
Van’s mouth was dropped open in surprise. He laughed awkwardly after a moment, leaning back on the couch and crossing his right ankle over his left knee. “Yeah, I wasn’t. I got home and went straight to bed. And you’re still seeing her, good for you, mate.”
Larry narrowed his eyes at Van and took a sip of his beer. “I am, thanks. Anyway, Tommy asked if we could be quieter because he heard like, screaming and moaning and shit. ‘Animal like’ I think is how he described it.” Jack burst out laughing at this, patting Van on the chest in a sort of congratulations.
Van’s cheeks flushed pink. “Well, wasn’t me.”
“Who else would it have been? Tommy’s our only neighbor. And he’s old as hell and never talks to me so I dunno why he’d make this up. Who the hell are you fucking that you won’t tell us about?” Larry asked. “Come to think of it, I think I heard some weird noises coming from your room last week, too. When you didn’t want to play FIFA with me because you were ‘too tired’ then, too. I bet it was the same girl.”
You pretended to be interested in something on your phone, scrolling casually as if you weren’t hanging onto every word of the conversation.
“Yeah, you’re always tellin’ us every detail of your sex life, Van. This chick must be ugly as hell or something,” Jack said with a chuckle.
“Watch your mouth, yeah?” Van snapped quickly, then attempted to cover it up with a laugh.
Larry stood up and pointed at Van accusingly. “I fucking knew it! You can’t keep shit from me. Now who is it? Why are you being so sneaky, lying about being sick and all that?” Larry sat back down as he waited for Van to respond, not looking away from him.
Van rolled his eyes, wiping his hands on his jeans. You’d never seen him so flustered - it was quite comical. His face had gotten even redder and he kept rubbing the back of his neck. It was well known by most people close to him that Van was a terrible liar. You could get almost anything out of him within a matter of minutes if you pestered him long enough.
“C’mon, leave him alone. If Van wants to sleep around with a girl that’s so ugly he can’t even tell us about her, let him. He had to get out of his dry spell somehow, yeah?” you said with a laugh. Your comment was met with a glare from Van, who stood up and made his way into the kitchen to grab another beer from the fridge. “Or maybe he likes her or something.”
Larry snorted. “Don’t you go defending him. Van doesn’t ‘like’ girls and he also always brags about how hot the girls he shags are. We’re talking about the guy who gave me shit for weeks when I told him I kind of had a crush on that waitress at that shitty restaurant by our old place.”
“Yeah, whatever happened to her? What was her name again?” Van pondered, brushing past your legs and plopping down next to Jack again. Just the momentary touch - through a layer of clothes at that - was enough to make you shift around in your seat, pulling your knees to your chin. He looked over at you, licking his lips as his eyes flicked over your bare legs and up to your face. The corner of his mouth lifted up slightly when you smirked at him.
“Don’t change the subject, McCann,” Jack shot back, leaning forward and staring at him, eyes narrowed. Van tossed his arm on the back of the sofa, sipping his beer casually. “Maybe it’s Y/N,” Jack said after a moment, glancing over at you and scanning your face dramatically as you rolled your eyes. “God, could you even imagine?” Larry and Jack both laughed boisterously at this.
“Yeah, he wishes,” you said, grinning at Van.
“Fuck off, all of you. She’s not fuckin’ ugly, okay? I just didn’t think it was any of your business,” Van replied with a scoff.
“So you’re still seeing her, then?” Larry asked.
Van’s eyes flickered to you for just a second, giving you a clear look of annoyance because of how pleased you were with the whole situation. “Christ, yes, okay? But now I’m definitely not gonna tell you who she is, since you’re all a bunch of dickheads.”
Larry and Jack shared a look. “Okay, fine, mate, but we’re gonna find out eventually. I’m gonna make sure,” Jack said with a smug look, patting Van on the shoulder who shrugged off his hand and shook his head. “The three of us are gonna be like Sherlock fucking Holmes.”
---
“Christ, they’re so annoying,” Van said, his voice muffled. He was lying completely on top of you on his stomach, arms tight around your waist and face nuzzled into your neck as you rubbed his back.
You reached up and scratched his scalp, eliciting a soft groan from him. “I know, bunch of assholes, aren’t they?” you replied with a chuckle. It was very late by now, nearing the middle of the night. You had to wait until Van and Larry left your house and then wait even longer for a text from Van letting you know that Larry was going to bed so you could sneak in.
“Shut up, you were having a field day with it, too. How come I’m the one taking all their shit, eh?”
“Dunno, maybe if you were a better liar you wouldn’t have this problem.”
Van bit your neck teasingly. “Fuck off, would ya?” You giggled underneath him, squirming when he started pinching your sides. He covered your mouth so you wouldn’t laugh and made a disgusted face when you licked his hand.
“Van? You’re not jerking off in there, are you?” You both stopped in your tracks immediately, eyes glued on the door as Larry knocked on it. At least he knew from experience not to barge in.
“Shit,” Van said under his breath. You scrambled off of him, searching for your clothes that were intermixed with Van’s. You tossed him his underwear which he slid on. “Uh, closet?” he whispered, pointing at the door which was partially open.
You slipped into the closet, shutting the door behind you. You leaned your forehead against it, closing your eyes.
I’m really hiding in a guy’s closet right now. Jesus, what has my life come to?
“No, come in,” Van shouted after a moment with an airy laugh. The conversation was so muffled you could barely hear it. You pressed your ear up against the door, being careful not to bump into anything.
Larry was talking about something with his family and you could tell it was serious based on his low voice.
You bit your lip and tried to make out what he was saying but you gave up after a while because he was talking too softly. You stood totally still, not even wanting to sit on the floor of the closet in case you made a noise.
After a few minutes, the door of the closet opened, revealing a wide-eyed Van. “He’s gone,” he muttered. You slipped out of the closet and followed Van onto his bed, sitting on the edge of it next to him. He sighed softly, leaning his head forward, elbows on his knees. You rubbed his back, resting your head on his shoulder.
“Everything okay?”
“Dunno, Larry said there’s something going on with his mum’s boyfriend and he was in the hospital earlier. He’ll be fine and everything, I guess, but he said his mum was a little freaked out.”
You frowned. “Did he say what happened?”
“No, just that he might drive up and see them tomorrow, ‘cause he feels bad for his mum.”
“So do you think he’s worried?” you asked.
Van shook his head, leaning back and looking at you with a little smirk. “No, he’s fine, I think. But he did see your underwear when he was leaving,” he said, tilting his head towards the floor in the direction of what were indeed your underwear. You groaned, flopping back on the bed. You had definitely forgotten to put them on when you were in a rush, only slipping your pants on and Van’s t-shirt.
“Gave me some shit for that and said he was gonna find out whose they were when he gets back in a couple days,” he said, leaning back on the bed next to you, fingers going to the tie of your sweatpants.
“Great.”
“But y’know what that means? Place to ourselves.”
You smacked him lightly on the arm. “Larry’s having a family crisis and you’re more concerned with the fact that we won’t have to sneak around for a couple days? You’re despicable, McCann.”
Van smirked, leaning down to kiss the spot where your neck and collarbone meet. “What can I say, darling? A man has needs. But we gotta be a little more careful so Old Man Tommy doesn’t hear us this time, yeah? So you better learn to control yourself.”
---
A few weeks later, you were on the phone with Van, hidden under the sheets of your bed and talking into the darkness.
“I miss you,” he mumbled. “Can’t fuckin’ sleep.”
“Aw, how cute,” you cooed into the phone. “Poor wittle Van can’t sleep without me.”
“Fuck off,” he groaned. “‘M serious, y’know. Larry insisted on inviting a couple of his old mates over so they’re all in the living room right now, being loud as hell. I can’t even leave the house.”
You chewed your lip, thinking about how you hadn’t been able to sleep before your phone rang, either. You’d gotten pretty used to seeing Van most nights of the week, one of you sneaking out and spending the night at the other’s place, only to leave early in the morning. Because of this, your sleep schedule was all sorts of messed up. And being in bed without Van only made it harder to sleep at night.
“I know,” you sighed, “I can’t sleep either. It’s getting old,” you said with a soft laugh.
“Do you… do you think maybe we should just come out and tell ‘em?” Van asked after a moment.
You weren’t sure what it was, but telling Jack and Larry about you being in a (recently defined) real-life relationship with Van just seemed unappealing. Your entire friend group was based around teasing each other - with love, of course - so you knew it would be hard to live this one down. After a while, they’d probably come to accept it and the jokes would maybe dissipate but the thought of acting like a couple in front of the two of them made your stomach churn. You also figured that if Jack and Larry knew you two were messing around, they’d probably pick your entire relationship apart within minutes which would only lead to the demise of it.
“Uh, I dunno, Van. Maybe we should just wait a bit still.”
“Thank God, I don’t wanna tell them either. Not ready to deal with all the shit,” he replied with a chuckle. At least you were on the same page. “But I wanna see you. And not have to worry about them busting in on us constantly,” he whined.
“I know, it fucking sucks.” You sat and concentrated on him breathing into the phone for a moment, listening to the way it got deeper and you could tell he was probably close to falling asleep finally. “Ooh, I have an idea.”
“Hm?”
“What if we got a hotel next weekend? I could come up with some work lie and you could say you were visiting your family or something. That way we could have a whole weekend together before you have to leave.” Van was leaving for a short European tour in a couple weeks. And you were dreading it. Since you’d started dating, you hadn’t been away from him for longer than four or five days. Now, he was going to be gone for about two months. You had no idea how you were going to survive that long without him.
“That’s a pretty good idea, darlin’,” he mumbled into the phone. “Hotel room, all to ourselves, yeah? I like it.”
So on Friday night, after successfully convincing Jack that you had a conference in Glasgow for the weekend, you were waiting on the hotel bed, wearing a little something special for Van. It wasn’t much, but you’d had time to shop around at a lingerie store down the street and you figured he would like it. You had even lit a few candles around the room to really set the mood, a bottle of wine on the bedside table.
Van had texted you earlier, saying he narrowly escaped Larry who tried to invite himself on the trip to see Van’s family. Larry really was a nuisance.
You heard the door click and you turned and saw the handle turning. You strained to see Van entering, a small backpack slung on one shoulder. He tossed it on the ground and looked up, scanning the room until he saw you. He whistled lowly, licking his lips.
“Fuck,” he muttered, eyes gazing up and down your body. You sat up a little higher, pleased with his reaction. He slipped his shoes off as fast as possible and crawled on the bed next to you, hand going to the side of your face. “You’re fucking class. How… I dunno what I did to deserve you,” he mumbled, tugging his bottom lip in between his teeth and looking over the lace set, his other hand running up and down your leg.
“Yeah, ‘m not sure either. I’ve been trying to figure that one out,” you replied, thumb and forefinger stroking your chin jokingly.
He chuckled, leaning forward and pressing his lips against yours. You sighed at the contact, glad to finally be near him again. You’d seen him a few times in the last few days but never managed to be alone, only getting an occasional ass grab in the kitchen as he passed you by or a light stroke of your arm when no one was looking.
Being completely alone in a hotel room with Van, no Jack, no Larry, and no Old Man Tommy around was much better.

Stiles Stilinski x Reader-Unexpected
Tumblr media
Your hands fell to your hips, fallen leaves blowing across your ankles as the wind hit your frozen body. Your lips were slightly parted as you stared forwards at the abandoned blue jeep. Your phone began to ring in your pocket-probably Scott and Lydia wondering where you had run off to.
Deciding to ignore the phone for the time being you continued to gaze at the vehicle in front of you. Over the past couple of weeks you had often found yourself being drawn to that jeep. At first you were confused because you had never seen it in your life but then other aspects of your life had seemed to fall out of place.
A sense of loneliness washed over you even when you were surrounded by your closest friends. The pack had noticed your sudden withdrawal, they had noticed the deep daydreams you would fall into.
Lydia waved her perfectly painted fingernails in front of your face, trying to gain your attention. The flash of colours waving before your eyes snapped you out of your daze. Your cheeks heating up as your head turned to face the pack. At least five pairs of eyes were staring into your soul.
“Y/n, this is the seventh time you’ve spaced out today and it’s only ten o’clock in the morning are you sure you’re okay?”Scott leant forwards to tap your arm gently.
It took you a minute to gather your thoughts that had been scattered all over the place recently, sighing as you looked over at your friends once more.
“Don’t you guys feel like something’s missing? Like-like somebody is missing?”you asked pinching the bridge of your nose.
“Yeah, I mean someone is missing everyone’s here but Liam he’s getting some extra lacrosse practice in before the game tonight”Malia informed you before taking a sip of her coffee that sat on the table.
“No-no that’s not it, I know that’s not it”you repeated, causing Lydia to become concerned at the discomfort evident on your face.
Strawberry blonde hair filled your vision as Lydia leant forwards, her body drawing closer to yours.
“Sweetheart everybody is accounted for nobody’s missing”she tried to reassure you, reaching up to squeeze your shoulder but the frown on your face deepened causing wrinkles to appear just above your eyebrows as you lightly shrugged Lydia away.
“You don’t understand, I’m not going crazy he’s supposed to be with us I know he is”you cried out finally, bowing your head as you ran your hands through your hair.
“Who is?”Scott’s confusion taking over.
“I don’t-I can’t remember, but his name his name is literally on the tip of my tongue I just-
“Calm down y/n, just breathe and explain”Malia’s hand gently clamped around your wrist encouraging you to start from the beginning.
“I’ve seen him, it’s like he’s there in the back of my mind I just can’t remember-we just can’t remember but he meant something to all of us I can feel it”you answered regretfully.
“Y/n, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t forget about a whole pack member, I would know if one of you went missing”Scott scoffed under his breath, you were becoming more stressed by the second. It seemed like your alpha and best friend didn’t believe you.
Lydia sent Scott a tight lipped scowl before turning to you once more.
“Where did you see him y/n? Maybe we can find him?”Lydia asked, her tone of voice becoming soft.
“In my dreams at night, I’ve been having them for a while now I just didn’t wanna say anything because there’s so much going on right now I just i really have this feeling-
“Maybe that’s all this is then, a dream. Look y/n I know that it may seem real but they are just dreams okay?”Scott interupted, offering you a sympathetic smile.
You stood from your seat abruptly, pulling your bag over your shoulder.
“No, this is different, I know he’s real and if you guys won’t help me figure this out then I’m just gonna have to do it myself but after everything we’ve been through and after everything we have seen I thought that someone in this damn group would’ve believed me”you croaked out, feeling worn out and defeated you turned your back to your friends. Storming off into the halls of Beacon Hills High school.
The moonlight bounced off the hood of the run down jeep as you inhaled deeply. You were so sure that you had seen this particular vehicle before. For some reason you felt so connected to the mysterious boy in your dreams, and as every day passed the sense of loss was so overwhelming you found it hard to breathe.
It was like a constant heartache, that only become stronger. Life had been miserable for you, and you wondered how you had ever lived like that without noticing that there was a problem. The dreams and the visions had made you realise that life was much better with the boy in it.
“You’re really not helping me here, c’mon give me something to work with I know you’re parked here for a reason I mean how would you even get here? Someone had to have parked you here”you mumbled to the jeep finally losing the plot.
“I know you belong to him, I just need a name that’s all I need”you cried out to no one in particular. Yes, you had definitely lost more than the plot at this point.
You waited for a moment or two, waiting for a sign, waiting for anything that would prove you weren’t entirely insane. After recieving nothing but silence you began to sob uncontrollably, leaning forwards to place your hands gently on the blue jeep for support.
The moment your hands touched the car material you felt the floor beneath you disappear, your eyes widening as you took in a deep breath. Before you knew it you were sat in the back of what seemed to be the jeep you had just been absentmindedly having a conversation with.
You didn’t have any control over your body as you lifted your head to glance at the drivers seat that was once empty. The brown haired boy who had been following your train of thought was now sat in front of you. Looking over to the passengers seat you saw...a version of yourself you hadn’t remembered. This wasn’t a dream, it was a memory. They had all been memories.
“Do you wanna talk about it?”The boy addressed you, his voice wasn’t deep but there was something about the way he spoke to you which made you freeze up, butterflies swarming your stomach.
“Not really, it was kind of traumatic I’d rather not relive the embarrassment thank you very much”you listened to your own voice ring out from the seat in front of you. The boy wearing the checkered flannel shirt tapped his free hand impatiently against his thigh as he sped down the streets of Beacon Hills.
A comfortable silence fell over the two of you before the y/n in your memory piped up again.
“How did you get here so quick?”
The boy whose name you’d been trying so hard to remember reached up to rub the back of his neck nervously.
“Oh y’know I was just going for a drive nearby when you texted-
“So you followed me basically”you replied, a hint of amusement lingering with your words.
“Thankyou for coming to get me, I was convinced that you were still angry at me from the argument we had earlier”you continued , your voice trailing away.
“I could never stay mad at you, I was never mad at you in the first place...besides it was my fault I should have never said the things I said I was being selfish”He replied, glancing over at you in the passengers seat.
“You were right though, all the things you said before you were right...”Memory y/n made eye contact with him properly for the first time.
“I was right?”he squeaked out, his eyes briefly looking at the road before meeting yours again.
“Yeah, you’re always right, I should have never gone on the date especially with that guy i don’t know why I ever thought it was a good idea he didn’t actually want me, I don’t know what I expected”you rambled on.
From where you were sat you could see that the teenager had something to say, and it seemed that this other version of you could see it aswell.
“You can say I told you so now, I know you want to celebrate being right”you scoffed out.
His eyebrows furrowed together.
“There’s nothing to celebrate- he hesitated for a moment before letting out a sigh.
-y/n he doesn’t deserve you, you are way too good for him, you deserve to be treated like a princess and you should never settle for any less you hear me? I mean Jesus Christ look at you, you’re fucking gorgeous and he’s literally crazy because he’s just let the best thing that could have happened to him walk out of those stupid restaurant doors-not to mention the fact that he didn’t even check beforehand if you liked sushi we both know how you swell up with allergies even thinking about it”the driver of the blue jeep ranted passionately in front of you.
You watched as the two teenagers in front of you exchanged a glance that said a thousand words. Seeing things from the outside really did change perspective on things.
Your mouth had fallen open whilst watching this scene play out in front of you, tears streaming down from your eyes as you started to wonder how you could have ever forgotten this boy that was so clearly in love with you, how you could have forgotten the boy that paid attention to everything you did and said. How could you have forgotten the boy that had saved your life countless times promising himself he’d do it over and over again.
“I’m sorry y/n”the boy spoke out again, gaining your attention.
“Sorry? For what you don’t have to be sorry”
“I’m sorry because I’m glad he let you slip through his fingers”
That was it. That was the moment it all changed, that special moment in that jeep had made you realise that you had always been so dangerously in love with the boy in the checkered flannel.
“Just a name, say his name c’mon”you muttered from the back seat, wiping the tears from underneath your eyes. Urging the memory version of you to just say it once.
The y/n in the passengers seat turnt her head, a small smile growing on her face before she opened her mouth.
“Stiles”
And with that fifteen years worth of memories came rushing back to you all at once, knocking you out of the memory you had just relived, sending you on a trip down memory lane.
“Y/n, this is our first ever school dance and I don’t want to trip over my two left feet with anyone else but you”
“You really have a way with words did you know that Stiles?”
-
“Stiles promise me, if we both get to the age of forty and we’re both not married we have to marry eachother by default”
“I’m marrying you anyway y/n”
“Oh and when did you make that decision”
“When we were 4”
-
“You don’t care about getting hurt do you?!”
“I do care about getting hurt, I just care more about you getting hurt Stiles”
-
“Mieczysław Stilinski, why the hell are you hanging upside down from my roof, it’s like two in the morning”
“Well I did come here to tell my best friend that I missed her and I don’t want her to ever go on holiday again but I guess I’m now here to murder her for using my whole name”
“Stiles, I was gone for three days”
“Way too long for my liking”
-
“Hello pretty girl”
“Okay Stilinski what have you done now?”
“Wha-what would make you think- okay fine I did something”
-
“Y/n you need to go it’s dangerous you need to run, find Lydia and the two of you go somewhere safe”
“Stiles I’m not leaving without you I mean that was never even an option”
-
“What’s gonna happen when we go off to college are you gonna forget about me?”
“Y/n wherever you go, that’s where I’ll be”
“Don’t be silly Stiles I wouldn’t ask you to give up your whole life for me”
“I would though, I would give it all up for you”
“And I would do the same for you without a doubt in my mind”
-
“Y/n I can’t believe you, are you insane I don’t think you understand how mad I am right now you seriously just jumped in front of a bullet for me!? You could have died I could have lost you I-
“And I would do it again”
-
“Stiles, you came back for me?”
“Of course I did”
“You can’t be here, they’re coming and they’ll take you too, Stiles you have to go”
“We both have to go, I’m not going anywhere without you”
-
“Stiles”you gasped, returning from the visions you were having, your grip on the jeep had tightened and you remembered everything, you remembered him. Stiles Stilinski. You had been his best friend from the age of four, somewhere along the way the dynamic of your friendship had changed into something much more. He was your soulmate and you had forgotten him.
Your shaking hands reached down into your pockets searching for your phone so that you could inform the pack on your discovery. Just as you were about to dial Lydia’s number in the jeep sprung into action, the lights blinding you making you jump backwards abruptly.
Tumblr media
Your heart began to beat out of your chest as you watched two hands reach up to grab the steering wheel. The boy you had been searching for so desperately popped up from behind the wheel. He looked flustered as his eyes flickered around his jeep settling on you finally.
Stiles stared forwards at your frozen body stood in front of his jeep, your eyes widened as they glanced back at him with shock. He realised in that moment that you had been the one to bring him back. Of course it had been you.
“Stiles”you repeated.
He was real, and he was sat right in front of you the only barrier between the two of you being the Jeep doors which crashed open as he fumbled around aggressively trying to get to you.
Your legs began to work again, running hurriedly around the side of the jeep to meet Stiles half way.
“You remembered”his voice was slightly hushed.
“I’m sorry I ever forgot”you mumbled out quickly before his lips crashed into yours, his hands wrapping around your body pulling you in closer. Your eyes fluttered closed and you felt like the puzzle was complete, he held onto you as if you were going to evaporate into thin air and you clutched onto his checkered shirt scared that he would leave again.
When the two of you pulled away it was only a matter of seconds before Stiles tugged you close again into a tight hug, you buried yourself into the crook of his neck as you felt his hands nestle in your hair.
“I can’t believe it was you, I thought Scott would- or even Lydia but it was you”he spoke out again.
“Why wouldn’t it have been me?”you raised your eyebrows.
“I don’t know it’s just, I’ve always- and you’ve never-
“Stiles seriously I love you but I thought you were supposed to be the smart one”you laughed lightly.
“Yeah maybe the tables have turned I mean you brought me back and you did it alone maybe you’re the genius”he smiled as he intertwined his fingers with yours.
“Well we’re gonna have to put our brilliant minds together because we have a nazi werewolf running around Beacon Hills, the pack need us”you informed Stiles who hadn’t been present during that fiasco.
“Let’s go get this show on the road then”Stiles sighed as he pulled you along gently, the two of you running towards the school hand in hand.

I’m Here Now ||jjk
Tumblr media
Here’s something I wrote because I go to Jungkook for comfort a LOT and I needed him most today. Thank you all for showing so much love on my other fics and remember that you can send in an Ask of what you would like for me to write! I hope you all enjoy, and again, thank you for everything!
Genre: Fluff, Angst
Pairing: Jungkook x Female!Reader
Warnings: Reader had a horrible day and basically a horrible year so Jungkook is here to cheer them up. Mentions of anxiety, panic attacks, depression, and skipping meals (please stay healthy lovelies!!!! don’t forget to eat something, even if it’s small!) and foul language if you squint.
Word Count: 2.7k
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The human brain is by far one of the most mind-boggling phenomena to have touched the Earth. From how they function and send signals to your body, to the way they make you feel when someone extra attractive gives you a second glance. A brain is one of the most important parts of a body and it was by far one of the most powerful ones as well.
Right now, Y/N despised it.
The second she shut her door behind her quivering body, she slid down the wood. Her purse hit the floor at the same time as her limp arms and her legs sprawled out in front of her miserably. Tears were pouring from her crimson-threaded eyes, her cheeks were flushed with a pink tint and her bottom lip was trembling not from the cold outside, but from the coldness of everyone’s hearts.
2020 was by far the shittiest year of her life and she just wanted to get through to see 2021, but each passing day was making that wish harder and harder to achieve. Not only had she lost family members close to her, but she’d also found that her anxiety and depression were at their peak, her entire personality had changed without her noticing until it was too late, and she’d even skipped meals throughout the day because she found herself too emotionally drained to get up and use the restroom.
“Jagiya,” A voice from her bedroom called out into the empty hallway. “Is that you?”
Y/N stood up from her spot on the floor. Abandoning her purse and mask on the floor in front of the door, she found herself following the sound of the voice coming from beyond her dark hall. She walked into her bedroom to see the love of her life sitting up straight in her bed, the low sound of her T.V playing the soundtrack for what sounded like a video game.
“You’re home!” Jungkook smiled widely. “How was your day today?”
The look Y/N sent him was enough to write a five-page essay as to why her day sucked complete and utter ass; just like all the ones before it. Jungkook frowned and scooted over on her bed, flipping the comforter up and tapping the empty spot next to him for her to sit. She sighed and looked down at her clothes she’d worn today.
“Let me shower first, then I’ll sit down,”
He nodded silently and tossed her one last warm smile before she turned on her heel to walk into her bathroom. Once she rid herself of her clothing, she stepped into the warmth of the steamy chamber and stood under the water, letting it soak her hair completely before she even thought about washing it. Her eyes shut completely, her eyelashes falling against her cheeks as she allowed the warm droplets to cascade down her still shivering skin. She didn’t even know she was crying until she let out a soft sob.
She rubbed her nose and tried to shake the tears away. She grabbed hold of the shampoo bottle and shot some of the liquid into her palm and lathered it up. The fragrance was strawberries, Jungkook’s favorite by far. As she spread the bubbles into her hair, the events of her day and all of the horrible ones before crashed over her in waves, all of her emotions she’d bottled up and kept inside finally ripping out of her body.
Jungkook thought it would be best to let her shower and have her thoughts to herself. He knew that she hadn’t had the best year so far and he couldn’t help but feel horrible for her. He’d tried his hardest to help her and make sure that he could make her smile at least once throughout the day. He’d rid himself of the thought of leaving her to her devices the second he could hear her sobbing from her bedroom. He paused his game and pressed his ear up to the bathroom door, the sound of her misery flooding into his mind like a sour note in a song.
He knocked on the door to let her know he was coming in before opening it. The sight before him absolutely shattered him. She was sitting at the bottom of the shower, her hair covering her eyes and the sides of her face. The water was directly hitting her and her shoulders were shaking violently with each sob that fell from her lips.
“Jesus Christ,” Jungkook panicked, turning the water off and pushing her hair out of her eyes. “Come on honey, let’s go lie down,”
Y/N couldn’t even protest. No matter how much she wanted to, all the strength in her body had vanished and she found herself following behind Jungkook with a towel covering her bare body. He rummaged through her drawers and found one of his shirts for her to wear. He pulled her towel off and threw the black shirt over her small frame, lifting her hair out from the inside and standing behind her to dry it as best as he could.
Once she was dressed, he escorted her over to her bed and helped her get comfortable. He crawled into bed with her and sat up with his back against the headboard. He lifted her crying figure into his lap and held her flush against his chest, pushing her head into the crook of his neck and rubbing her lower back pitifully. The actions were enough to worsen her crying and soon enough she found herself having trouble breathing.
“Breathe, Y/N,” He stated softly. “In for ten seconds and out for five. Can you do that for me?”
Y/N nodded violently and took a deep breath in, her breathing wavering from the intake of oxygen. He could hear the trembles of her breaths rumbling in the back of her throat and he knew that she was in a worse state than he thought. He decided to do the exercise with her, the two of them breathing in unison while he held her small hands in his.
“J-Jungkook, it hurts,” She sobbed, shutting her eyes tightly. Another stream of tears fell from her eyes. “C-Can you just hold me?”
He looked into her bloodshot eyes and could see the pain living behind them. Like her inner demons had regrouped behind her chocolate orbs to only make her see the worst in everything.
“I would love to,”
Y/N’s arms wrapped behind Jungkook’s neck while he snaked his around her middle. He pushed her against his chest and pressed a kiss to her forehead sweetly before having her rest in the crook of his neck once more.
“I’m here now bunny,” his voice was like silk in her ears, not too overbearing, yet just clear enough to make his statement play over and over in her mind. “You’re gonna be okay, you can get through this,”
Her trembling had gone down a lot, but he could still feel her legs quiver and her breaths shake. It was a start. That’s all he needed.
“I love you so much, you know that right?” he queried. “And no matter what happens you can always come to me for anything,”
Y/N nodded against his warm neck, placing her slightly wet lips against the supple skin to let him know that she was paying attention to his words. He chuckled and she could feel the rumble against the side of his throat.
The sound of her air conditioner filled the comfortable silence. She’d kept her eyes closed to bask in the feeling of his warmth and his undying love for her. It was never overwhelming, but it was a lot to handle sometimes and she couldn’t be more thankful and blessed to have it. His affection was hers, his smiles, his special looks, the galaxies in his eyes, his ‘I love you’s’. They were all hers.
The blanket was pulled over her body and she felt twice as warm. She sighed and opened her eyes to look at the twinkle in his dark orbs once more. But when her puffy eyes opened, she was met with a dark room. The T.V wasn’t on and her lover wasn’t in bed with her. Instead, her arms were wrapped around her pillow and the blanket seemed to be the only thing to be keeping her from freezing. She looked around her bedroom and quickly stood up.
Her house was almost as dark as the night outside. She turned on every single light to check for her lover, making sure that he hadn’t left the house. When she headed back into her room she noticed that her phone was still on. Maybe the messages between them were still open and he texted her to say that he’d stepped out to buy her favorite flavor of ice cream.
She crawled back into bed and got as comfortable as she could and looked at her screen. She had YouTube open. She flipped her phone vertically to look at what video she was watching, not remembering using her phone since Jungkook had comforted her.
In bold, white letters was the title of the video. Suddenly everything was clear to her and it triggered the tears to fall down harder than they had earlier. She clamped her hand over her mouth to try and muffle her sobs.
She looked up at her ceiling, then back down at her phone to see that Jungkook never came to her house. He never took her out of the shower and dressed her to get into bed with him, he never asked what was wrong, never asked about her day. He never held her in his arms and said everything was gonna be okay so long as he was there.
Clips of BTS’ Jeon Jungkook for when you’re having a bad day
He had never told her that he loved her. He never said that he was going to be there for her had she needed anything. Jungkook wasn’t her lover, nor did he know who she was. She was still just an ordinary fan that happened to find comfort in him, an ordinary fan that seemed to have such a strong and passionate love for him that he’s never reciprocated to her in person. She was alone. Again.
“I love you too, Jungkook,”
part 1
Tumblr media
A/N: okay so this is the first real part of my new series :D let me know what you guys think <3 it’s kinda slow but i promise it’ll get better !!!! also i know there’s like not much about the schools programs in the movie but just imagine that they have a vet program lmao thank u :-)
You shuffled around your backpack looking for your dialectical journal, quickly scribbling your name on it and handing it to your AP lang teacher with a smile as she collected them.
“i hope you enjoy midtown tech ms. Parks” she smiled at you and you gave her a soft thank you as the bell rang. You gathered your things and swung your backpack over your shoulder, heading to the area sami had pointed for you to wait for her earlier that morning.
As you looked over the sea of people you saw the unfamiliar yet familiar curly brown hair you had set your eyes on earlier, you glanced at his face and quickly checked him out as he walked through the halls, weaving through the many teens talking and crowding the halls. Before you could fall head over heels for the stranger you saw sami walking quickly your way, eager to see what you had thought so far.
“i mean yeah it’s pretty good so far, nothing much has happened” you smiled biting into your pizza, half paying attention to what your friend was saying and half glancing to see if the curly stranger had A lunch too.
“okay either you’re thinking about something much more important or suddenly you think my analysis of parks and rec is boring” sami spoke, looking at you with such seriousness you let out a small laugh.
“you know i love your episode by episode review sam” you smiled, sipping your water and hoping to avoid the subject of a crush with sami, because once she envisioned a pair of people together, not even the national guard could stop her.
“I know you do, so why weren’t you paying attention to it” she spoke, quirking her eyebrow out as you leaned your head back and groaned at her persistence. “I just saw this cute boy and i just can’t get him off my mind it’s nothing” you shrugged, shoving a spoonful of your fruit cup in your mouth.
“oh my god y/n finally i can get some work done!” She shouted causing you to choke at her sudden outburst. You swapped the fruit quickly and began coughing, immediately downing water and starting to laugh.
“jesus christ sami i almost choked calm down” you laughed as she pulled her phone out and went to Instagram. “What’s his name?” She asked not even looking up at you and you rolled your eyes.
“I don’t know i just saw him for like three seconds before you blocked my view of him” you smirked at her, knowing he dreams of playing matchmaker were gone. “I’ll find him, what kind of hair did he have? What was he wearing?” She asked quickly.
“uh curly hair, brown curly hair and brown eyes, a grey jacket i think” you shrugged finishing your lunch before throwing it away and sitting back down. Sami groaned as you gave her your vague answers. “I’ll find him” she mumbled as you both walked out of the cafeteria.
You looked at your wrinkled paper, searching the halls for your 4th period, art. You found the art room after taking two wrong turns and having to walk the entirety of the second floor because you were too scared to turn around.
“For your first art project of the year i want you guys to draw or paint a place you like, it can be your home, a safe space or just somewhere in the world” the teacher spoke, explaining the project that would ease you into the year.
As the bell rang once more you headed to an outside building for your small animal management class, then you headed back inside for your pre calculus class. You sighed walking through the halls, pulling out your wrinkled schedule once more and walking downstrairs again to look for your AP chemistry class.
You scanned the walls for the matching room number and you were met with your new chemistry teacher as you approached the door.
“hi what’s your name?” She smiled at you holding out a clipboard. “Y/N parks” you smiled at her, fiddling with your lanyard. “Ah yes, go ahead and sit wherever you’d like, i don’t have a seating chart yet” you thanked her and took a seat near the middle of the class.
You watched as more kids pounded into the room, your eyes searching for Sami, you were giddy just thinking about having a class with her. You smiled widely as she walked into the room, taking a seat beside you.
You were so engrossed in your conversation you didn’t see the boy with the brown curls walk in. The teacher closed the door and smiled at the class, welcoming you all and giving you a syllabus. That’s when you saw him.
Four columns over and two seats ahead of you, sat the cute boy with the curly hair you had been thinking of all day. “That’s him!” You whispered to sami as you unsubtly pointed in the boys direction as you took out an empty spiral notebook. “Oh my god that’s peter parker! You have a crush on him?” Sami laughed a little and you blushed.
“I mean look at him he’s so cute! And he must be smart, i mean AP chem isn’t for everyone” you smiled, wanting to get sami off your case. She only shrugged and put the syllabus you handed her into her binder. As the class ended you and sami both walked out, heading to your final class which you had together as well, orchestra.
It didn’t take you long to realize that peter and his friend, Ned, were walking behind you two, talking about something in Star Wars. “sami hes behind us holy shit” you whispered, smiling widely at your friend, following her to the orchestra room.
“Oh yeah i forgot to mention he’s in band!” She scoffed, mumbling under her breath a little. “hey bands not so bad! they’re pretty good and guard is amazing” You huffed, furrowing your eyebrows and pushing your friend slightly.
“look just because you almost did color guard your freshman year doesn’t mean you have to defend marching band” she laughed as you rolled your eyes.
“it’s fun okay!” You defended yourself laughing at her mock annoyance of you.
As you walked down the strairs you noticed how peter and Ned took the elevator down, you shrugged it off and continued your way into the orchestra room. You told the teacher you played bass, she quickly assigned an instrument for school and one to take home and got you the music you were missing.
The final bell of the day rang and you packed your stuff up. Getting ready to call your best friend back home and tell her all that had happened today.
You and sami walked out of school, waving bye to her as she entered her moms car. “You sure you don’t want a ride?” She asked for the fifth time and you laughed.
“Yes I’m sure, I’ll take the train I’ll be fine” you smiled and said goodbye one last time, hopping on the train and quickly finding a seat, texting your best friends back home of today’s events.
-
“Ned she was so pretty! Like oh my god, her hair! and during class she said ‘that’s him!’ Oh my god she’s so cute” peter spoke to his best friend, an extra bounce in his step as they made their way to the train station.
“you know it’s unfair you use your senses to find out who likes you but you call it cheating when i want you to see if the girl from 5th period likes me, or that girl in the tuba section!” Ned scoffed throwing his hands up as peter ugly laughed softly.
“listen dude, i just think i might have a real shot with her, i just have to find a way to talk to her you know?” Peter spoke, hopping on the train with his friend, ending the conversation about girls and starting the one about building the new LEGO set he got over the weekend.
As he got down from the train with Ned it didn’t take him long to spot you, his heart racing a little faster as he saw you talking on the phone, a smile on your face.
“wait Ned shut up!” Peter spoke quickly, rushing to move closer to you. He focused his senses to hear your voice amongst the crowded train station.
“i mean yeah it’s pretty nice here, i have to take the train so that’s pretty fun, also there’s this really cute guy i saw, i have chemistry with him- no dumbass the class” you laughed.
Peters heart rate sped up as he heard you talking, were you talking about him? I mean that one football player was sitting next to him, maybe you were pointing at him. He focused once more to see if maybe, just maybe you would drop another hint.
“- yeah no way bro, i think he does sports” you spoke, going up the stairs. Peters small smile fell from his face and Ned watched intently.
“what did she say?” He quickly asked, peter sighed. “I think she was talking about charles, she said she thought he did sports, we both know I’m not the sport type” peter spoke, clutching the strap of his backpack tightly as the two headed to his apartment.
Ned put his hand reassuringly on peter shoulder, “dont man, I’m sure if it’s meant to be, fate will pull you two together” he smiled and peter looked at him.
“dude that was so wise” he smiled, Ned only winked at him in return, causing both of them to burst out laughing.
-
The next day came quickly for you, and before you knew it you were walking into AP chemistry again, heart racing as you anticipated the new seating chart.
“please for the love of any higher force put me next to the cute peter kid” you whispered, taking the seat you sat in the day before. Sami soon walked in with a smirk on her face, that immediately set off alarms in your mind.
“oh god what did you do” you spoke worried.
“oh no not me, fate” she winked before turning to face the front, peter rushing in as the bell rang and taking a seat.
“okay as you know we will have a seating chart so if you will all please line up,” Ms. Patrick spoke, naming off kids, it wasn’t until 9 kids in that you realized he was going alphabetically.
“Mr. Parker you’ll be behind Jamie” she spoke, peter stumbled as he made his way to the seat and you smiled softly at his awkwardness.
“Ms. Parks you’ll be next to peter” the teacher spoke, continuing to name out the list. You however, cough as you choke on your spit, walking to your seat with a flushed face, not wanting to look at the boy next to you.
You quickly gulped down your water, not wanting attention drawn to yourself, even though yesterday you would’ve pounced on the boy sitting next to you.
“are- are you okay?” He whispered, causing your face to turn a deeper red.
“me? Yeah I’m fine I’m really good why?” You spoke quickly, fiddling with your pencil as the teacher gave instructions on how to set the notebook up.
“you just look really nervous, don’t worry, i don’t bite” he smiled at you and you felt your heart skip a beat, Jesus his smile is so cute.
You returned his smile and quickly looked down at your notebook, cutting the small slips of paper and gluing then into the first page.
“okay write your names on the front of the notebook and then I’ll hand out your homework” the teacher spoke, handing out sharpies.
You looked at peter, seeing how his brow furrowed just a bit when he was taking notes. He glanced up and you quickly looked forward, heart racing at the thought of him knowing you snuck glances at him.
“y/n?” He asked and you looked at him quickly, face slightly red, scared he had caught you staring. “the sharpie” he spoke and you laughed, facepalming yourself mentally.
“oh yeah- uh thanks” you spoke clearing your throat, then you realized, your front cover is black.
“where the hell do i write my name” you whispered, looking to see if there was another colored sharpie.
“you can- you could write it on the inside” peter spoke, leaning over to flip your notebook cover. He smiled brightly at you and you returned it.
“oh yeah, duh, you’re smart” you smiled, chuckling softly as you write your name before handing the sharpie to the girl infront of you.
Peter watched as you wrote your name down, falling in love with the way you wrote your name, how would it look if you wrote his name down? He smiled at the way you looked taking notes, thinking the way you bit your bottom lip slightly made you look cute.
Peter blushed when he felt your eyes on him, he knew exactly how fast your heart rate became when he looked up and you thought he had caught you. Technically, he knew so you were caught, but you didn’t know that, and the way you smiled at him when he wasn’t looking made him swear he wouldn’t let you know he knew.
Suddenly, AP chemistry became your favorite class, and not because of the subject.
Peter realized that AP chemistry was all he looked forward to, because the pretty girl somehow ended up next to him. And then he smiled at himself as he swung through the streets of Queens, maybe it was fate.
Pictured with You (iv.)
A/n: I got super excited writing this let me just tell you.
Summary: Shawn gets a little too excited after a show and Andrew has to pull him aside before things go too far
Warnings: none
Word count: 1.9k a little shorter than the last 2 sorry
***
This show is insane! The energy of the arena is almost tangible, it's so amazing. I've never felt so at peace while at the same time so off the walls. If I knew I wouldn't break anything, I would probably jump off stage and into the crowd, or maybe do a backflip. But we all know I physically can't do that. And after what happened last time I jumped off a stage, I'd like to refrain from becoming a meme again.
And y/n is definitely feeling it too, because every time I throw a glance her way, she's smiling, even when she's holding the camera up to her face, snapping pictures of me and then the crowd too. I'm grateful that she does that, it's always fun to look back on when I'm on break, missing the tour life. I asked her one night, early on during tour, why she does that.
"I did yearbook in high school. My teacher was all about candids and reactions. Especially during games and stuff, she wanted to have crowd reactions. I think I just found a special kind of appreciation for them. And now it's just something I always get; it's second nature. She's really the reason I fell so in love with photography."
I thought it was cute that she started doing what she does because of her yearbook teacher. The idea of it just fills me with happiness, because she's told me before how much she struggled emotionally in school and it makes my heart happy to know that she found her escape.
And I can hardly take my eyes off her during my - what the fans love to call - emotionally raw performance of Why. But if she noticed, she doesn't show it. She's in work mode, and I should be too. But I mean every word spilling from my lips.
We want each other, no one will break first.
I wish that I could tell you that you're all that I want.
The post show adrenaline is one I wish I could have contained. But I'm still bouncing around to release what's still left in me while we all gather in the green room. The band is buzzing, talking about how great Zubin's solo was or how Mike absolutely killed it with the intro. But I'm not talking. My eyes are focused on the door. Brian and Cez walk in and clap my shoulders.
"Bro, that was amazing! You fucking killed it out there!" Brian squeezes my shoulders and I manage to smile widely at him.
"Thanks, man. It was… better than any show I've ever done." But I don't say anything after that because I'm waiting for y/n. Ready to engulf her in my sweaty embrace that she claims she hates, but I know she secretly loves. But she's taking so long to get back here. She's usually one of the first because she fully follows me to get more photos. But I'm looking around and the two people missing are her… and Connor.
I know I shouldn't think anything of it because she's not mine - she's her own person and she can do whatever she wants. But my mind still betrays me thinking of all the things that she and Connor could have done before this tour - what they still could be doing. And I think that's why I do what I do when she finally enters the room, our friend right behind her.
She smiles when she sees me and instead of just going to wrap my arms around her in the most innocent hug that I could possibly give, because I'm aware for everyone (especially Andrew and Cez) watching our every move, I pick her up and spin her around.
She lets out a surprised squeal, but her arms still enclose around me, her head buried into my neck, covering up her giggles that make me weak. "Well hello to you, too, rockstar. What was that?" She asks when I set her back down, but I don't answer.
I push a strand of hair out of her eyes and hold on to either side of her face. I don't give myself a chance to second guess my actions because within a second my lips are on hers and I'm pulling her closer to my body. She doesn't react at first, but then she's kissing me back and I can feel how awkward it is for her because she's still holding her camera in the hand that's reaching for my sweat glistening bicep. Not to mention everyone's eyes are no doubt on us now, as if they weren't already before.
Neither of us want to pull away and I'm teasing her bottom lip with my tongue when I'm wanked back by the collar of my tank top. Andrew doesn't stop pulling until we're in the dressing room. "What the hell was that?" He asks, slamming the door behind us.
But I'm too focused on the way she felt against me, how soft she was. I'm smiling like an idiot in the mirror, my fingertips tracing my mouth, red and swollen from her lips. "Shawn!"
I, at last, look at him, my smile fading. "What?"
"You said there was nothing going on. You said that nothing would go on. I trusted your judgement on hiring another friend because Brian has worked out so well. But this is unacceptable! You can't be with y/n, she works for you!"
"I'm not with her, Andrew! It was -"
"It was what, Shawn? Because that wasn't a friendly kiss. You two have been flirting like crazy for months. You think I don't know about what happens on the bus? Or about your late night milkshake dates? I saw her wearing your hoodie. This is more than just a friendship, and you know I'm right."
"Don't use my own lyrics against me! I know, what I'm doing, Andrew. Just let it go."
"I can't just 'let it go.' This compromises the entire aspect of tour."
"How?" I throw my hands up, "How does it affect you in any way? It's not your love life!"
"You promised me when we hired her that nothing was going to happen. Do you remember that? We were in my office and before I could even ask you if you had feelings for her you said that nothing was going to happen. Remember?" He pushes his glasses up and pinches the bridge of his nose. "Well now we're three months in you're kissing her in front of everyone! This wasn't just a private thing that happened one night in a hotel room that you can just brush under the rug like nothing happened. You did this in front of the entire team!"
"Okay! I get it!" I run my hands roughly through my hair, "I messed up! Is that what you want to hear? I'm sorry that it happened in front of you, but I'm not sorry I kissed her."
"Shawn."
"I'm not. I wanted to. And if you weren't yelling at me right now, I would kiss her again and again and again." I say, a defiant smirk playing at the corners of my mouth.
He let out a deep breath, "Okay, listen. I understand that it's your life and you can do what you want with it. But let me make myself clear. She works for you. That's what she's here to do. She's not here to work you. But you want to hook up? Fine, hook up. But when this ultimately gets too messy - because you know it will - Don't come to me begging for a new photographer. She's gonna stay and it's going to be the most unpleasant remainder of tour ever. You got that?"
"What happened to 'we don't want to lose another photographer'? Knowing that we won't get rid of her if this happens only makes me want her that much more."
"Jesus Christ." He shakes his head. "You're twenty-two, Shawn. Okay? Think about this. I know being a pop star at a young age kind of cut you off from going and hoeing around. But at this point in the game, you need to decide if you want her just because she's here and it's easy. Or if you want her because you genuinely think your relationship could go somewhere. We've worked so hard on your image and for seven years of work to go down the drain because you can't keep it in your pants? I won't have that. The label won't have that. But you know the second something happens with y/n, the fans will talk. The media will get a hold of it. It'll be everywhere in just days and you won't even have muttered a word about it." He claps my shoulder. "You might be used to them watching your every move, but you're bringing another person into the spotlight, who very clearly loves being behind it. So think about that. Hook up, don't hook up. That's up to you. But do something that's going to benefit both of you. Because I'd hate to see her get hurt."
"What about me?"
Andrew scoffs with a sad smile on his face, "You're the one doing the hurting."
---
I may or may not have been avoiding having to spend too much time alone with y/n this past week. Neither of us have said a word about the kiss, not that I expected her to bring it up anyway.
But just because I haven't been around her, doesn't mean I haven't been watching her. (And no, I don't mean this in a creepy way. I just mean I pay attention. I want to make sure she's doing okay.) She's isolated herself, so it seems. I haven't seen her around Connor as much either, and while it makes me happy to see her finally create some distance from him, I know that the cause of the distance is me and that hurts a little. But what hurts even more is that this morning when I was going through my suitcase to find something to wear, I found that hoodie I let her wear when we got our milkshakes. I hold it up to my nose and sigh loudly; it smells like her - clean with just slightest hint of sweet, vanilla definitely.
My phone buzzes from the bed and I shuffle over to it, still only in my boxers.
Drinks at a bar up the street. You down???
I read over Brian's text three times before responding.
Who's going?
The reply is almost immediate.
Almost everyone. Andrew and Cez are out. Already in bed. Bring y/n?
The thought sends a shiver down my spine. I don't know if she want to talk to me or not, but I'm pulling clothes on as fast as I can. Black jeans - of course - the hoodie I just threw on the bed. And a denim jacket over that.
Give me ten minutes. We'll meet you in the lobby.
I'm rocking back and forth outside her room. With a final deep breath, I knock on the door, my eyes closed. I'm not waiting more than ten seconds before she comes into view, still in her jeans from earlier, but now an old t-shirt swallows her frame. Looking just as beautiful now as she does every time I see her.
"Shawn, what are - what are you doing here?" Her arms cross over her middle, shielding herself, no doubt.
"We're going out for drinks. You coming?"
The Outsiders: Camp Squit
The Outsiders: Camp Squit (Episode 4)
Published: 10-19-19 - Updated: 10-21-19
Squit planned an idea of what's happening in this weekend as he planned to go camping with Pinky, Brain, Pesto and Wakko. Will the others ruin it for him? Will it cause cringy chaos? Read what happens and find out. This is the 4th fanfiction episode of The Outsiders.
Part 1: The Arrival
(Brain is driving in the woods with Squit, Pinky, Pesto and Wakko for their camping trip.)
Squit: As we're near, I thought I'd run through the itinerary for this weekend.
Wakko: What's an itinerary?
Pesto: (annoyed) Squit's way of taking the piss outta everything?
Squit: No, it's just a schedule of what we'll do and when we'll do it.
Pinky: Okay, item one, get your shit off my side of the car! (pushes Squit's suitcase)
Squit: It's not shit. It's essentials for everyone to make the trip more enjoyable!
Pinky: Oh, really? (Gets out Monopoly from Squit's suitcase) Monopoly?! Y'fuckin' serious?! This is tha most shitty-ass game you've ever bought! Look. All we need is beer and weed and I've got plenty of both.
Squit: Why have you brought a load of weed?
Pinky: In case I get lucky and stoned.
Squit: But we're camping by a lake near a woods.
Pinky: Listen, all these country bitches love some big city diugh.
Squit: You're not from the big city!
Pinky: Well growing up in da hood counts as a city to them!
Brain: (frustrated) Pesto, look at the map, please! Where is it?!
Pesto (checks phone) Uhhh...I dunno. It's around here somewhere. Th-the next left or something.
Brain: (sarcastically) And that's what Google Maps says, "The next left or something"?
Pesto: Sorry, dude, I'm running outta brain juice. What if I have to literally give birth with the babe from Walmart I had sex with? Can you imagine how fuckin' disgusting that'll be, watching that baby getting squeezed outta her ass?
Squit: Okay, I've got some news, Pesto. Do ya...
Pesto: Oh, here we are, B. Turn left.
(Brain turns left to the nearest forest.)
Brain: Oh, Jesus Christ, it stinks. Is it near a pig farm, Pesto?
Pesto: Sorry, that was me. It just slipped out.
(they all gag and moan by the smell)
Pinky: What?! (holds nose)
Brain: Ugh! I can't believe that's the smell of your ass!
Squit: I think I'm gonna throw up!
Wakko: I can fucking see it! It's like a brown mist!
(Squit N/R: Despite Pesto's anxious bowels burning our eyes and choking our lungs, we made it to the forest. I'd researched this place online and it certainly delivered. Secluded. Remote. Beautiful.)
(All 5 were standing in the forest.)
Pesto: So...where do we shit?
Squit: What?
Pesto: When we need to shit, where do we shit?
Pinky: Hang on, he's right. Where are we gonna shit?
Squit: Well, usually, you'd place a trench at least.
Pesto: Well, what trench, smart-ass?!
Squit: The toilet trench.
Wakko: Where you place the public bathrooms?
Squit: No, it's where you DO a public bathroom.
Pesto: (whacks Squit in the head) Fuck you, I'm not shittin' in a trench! Dafuq's the matter with ya?!
Pinky: Dude, you're fuckin' high.
Brain: I'm not going near a hole filled with your shit!
Squit: (rubbing his head) No. We each get our own trench. That's what I'm sayin'.
Brain: (sarcastically) Oh, OK. Yeah 'coz that makes sense!
Wakko: We're camping surrounded by shit?
Pinky: No! No-one's shittin' in a trench! That's disgustin', I'm not gonna do it! We'll have to drive to tha bar or a convenience store or something.
Pesto: Shit there?
Pinky: Shit there.
Wakko: Good idea.
Brain: Agreed.
Pinky: Then, that's decided, write that down, Squit, item two.
Squit: Could do. Or you could remember to shit in the bar when we're there anyways?! Now, c'mon. Let's get this tent up.
Pesto: I need to go now, tho.
Squit: What? Just hold it in!
Pesto: I can't, I get emotional.
Squit: We only just got here, Pesto! Camp first, shit second!
Pesto: I don't think I can, I'm honestly gettin' teary here, it feels like it's trying to push its way back up into my stomach!
Wakko: Great. I need one now, too.
Brain: What about that gas station we've just past?
Pesto: (panicking, holding his ass) Oh, God, the snake's out the cave!
Squit: Fine. Everyone, back in the car.
(They got back in the car and drove to the nearest gas station.)
(Squit N/R: So our camping trip was shortly delayed while Pesto left what he described as "King Kong's finger" in the Welcome Break bathrooms. Pesto genuinely felt better about life after unloading a massive turd. And now the car was unloaded, so did I.)
(Back at the forest.)
Squit: First need to clear the ground, make sure the site is safe and then put up our tent.
Pinky: Fuck dat, let's just crack open the beers and build a fuckin' massive fire up in this bitch!
Squit: You can't just build a fire. It takes preparation. I mean, have we even asked the landowner's permission?
Brain: (frustrated) Squit, c'mon! I didn't come here for a refresher course in the Countryside Code. I just wanna get pissed and have fun. Otherwise, I won't be able to do any of this in Wales.
Pinky: What, 'coz there's no fields?
Brain: No, 'coz I won't have any friends of my kind.
Pinky: You won't need friends. Welsh hoes are totally horny.
Brain: Are they?
Pinky: Yeah. Pretty much all British porn stars are Welsh, even though they are popular here in America. Most of them don't even get paid, they just do it for dick.
Brain: (sarcastically) Oh, OK, made-up sluts. Now I'm glad I'm going to Swansea. Oh, fucking hell, Swansea! I have to see my grandpa for a WHOLE WEEK in Swansea!
Squit: Fine, Brain, look if you really want, I'll build you a fire. Y'all put the tent up, I'll go and find some suitable wood and kindling.
Wakko: All right, Akela. HA!
Squit: But remember, fire is an element, it must be respected.
(He leaves to find some wood.)
(Squit N/R: Camping's all about self-reliance and teamwork. And I knew I could rely on myself to create the perfect camp and my team fucking it all up.)
(When he came back, he saw his stuff from his suitcase being burnt down with fire as his suitcase was open, it causes him to have a panic attack and drops all of the wood he just found.)
Squit: WHAT...THE...FUCK HAVE YA DONE!?
Pinky: Y'okay, Squit?
Wakko: (tried to hand Squit a cooked sausage) Want a sausage?
Pesto: Calm down. I just got it going and I didn't even need a fire gay's badge.
Pinky: Nah, just some diesel.
Squit: You put diesel on it? Wait a minute. Is that my fold-out table on the fire? (gasp) And my picnic basket?!
Pinky: I thought you said look for stuff to burn.
Squit: (getting angry) Wood, burn fucking wood, not my stuff! Oh, for Christ's sake! Why would ya do that?!
Pesto: Look, someone had to take charge of this weekend or it's gonna be all Monopoly and shitting in trenches!
Brain: Look, come on, sit down, have some weed, have a beer, have a sausage. Just chill.
Squit: I'll chill when y'all stop burning up my fuckin' valuable possessions to dust!
Pinky: (teasing) Oh, but I thought they were for "everyone"?
Squit: Yes, for everyone to use, not to burn up with! God.
(Wakko saw the fire going down so he puts Squit's fold-out chair on top of it.)
Squit: What the hell are you doing now?!
Wakko: Fire's going down.
Squit: (getting furious) STOP...BURNING...MY...THINGS!
Wakko: (angrily) Sorry, I forgot. (flips his chair off the fire) Jeez!
(Squit N/R: We were barely an hour from home, but somehow that meant that burning my possessions was not only OK, but hilarious.)
Part 2: R.I.P. Brain's Shitty Car
(Squit was sitting down still looking pissed off because of what happened earlier.)
Brain: Oh, come on, we're sorry. It was just a joke.
Wakko: We'll do whatever you want to cheer you up.
Pinky: Anything you like.
Squit: (smiled) Game of Monopoly?
(The others moan about this)
Pinky: Oh, fuck off!
Pesto: Boooooooooooooo! Y'suck!
Brain: Apart from that.
Pinky: Look, if you wanna play a game, I've got a proper game, not a shitty one, especially Monopoly. Though thinking about it, y'all might be too pussy to play.
Wakko: It's not that game that you used to play with your weird neighbour in his shed, is it?
Pinky: (looks nervous) Well, that never happened.
Wakko: Yeah, you told me about 8 years ago. Just after he moved away.
Pinky: No, I never. Shut up, dumbass!
(Wakko looks confused)
Pinky: OK, to start with, y'all have to swap phones. Squit, you swap with mine. Brain, I'll swap with your phone. Wakko and Pesto can swap each others and Pesto can swap with Squit.
(They all swap phones.)
Brain: Okay...now what?
Pinky: Now you text someone in their phone book. So when you text someone, they'll think it's from him.
Wakko: So does that mean I have to write it all posh and like all hurdy wurdy durdy?
Pinky: Nope. The only rule is you can write whatever you like and no-one can stop you.
Squit: I just wanna say, for the record, there's no way anything good can come outta this.
Pinky: Whatever. Ready? Go.
(They all text.)
Pinky: I've only got five numbers in my phone, and four of them are four of y'all, so do ya worst.
Pesto: Well, as long as one of the others is Squit's mama, you're still in trouble.
Squit: (looking disgusted) Pesto, come on, that's too much.
Pinky: Sorry, it's literally the point of the game, y'know.
Squit: Awww...fuck. Fine!
Pinky: Right, homies, finished?
Wakko: (finished texting) That's it, send 'em.
Pinky: Good, now swap back.
(They swapped back their phones.)
Pinky: Good, so I wrote, from Brain's phone to Billie, "Bills, I love you from the bottom of my ding-a-ling. The thought of leaving you is making me cum." (laughs)
Brain: (embarrassed) Oh, god.
Pinky: "And I'm using those tears as lube to jerk myself off with."
Brain: (sarcastically/disgusted) Gee, thanks, Pinky.
Squit: Don't worry, B, I texted Pinky's dad and wrote, "Dad, I'm just thinking about you."
Pinky: (whispered) Hmph, pussy.
Squit: "I'm in the bath and I'm hard." (laughs)
Pinky: (angrily) Holy fuck! Damnit, you've won this round!
Brain: Pesto? What about you?
Pesto: Fairly standard to Squit's mama. "Ma, it's been 29 years, but I'd love to have another go on your big fake-ass tits."
Squit: (embarrassed) God. No.
Pesto: "Then I'd like to smash in your back doors (anus)."
Squit: (sarcastically) So it'll come up that I've sent her a text, she'll think, "Good, he's just letting me know I'm proud of him," then she'll read that? Yep, thanks Pesto!
Pesto: No probs. Wak, who did you send to?
Wakko: I presume, your dad? I wrote "Your gay as fuck." HA!
(There was a short silence as Pesto looks pissed)
Pesto: (he snatches his phone back from Wakko) Gimme my phone back!
Wakko: Wait, I've also wrote for Saucy Walmart Karen.
Pesto: Wait, did ya?
Wakko: Hell yeah, I've written, "Karen, I love you and love that you are to be the mother of my child. Marry me?"
Pesto: Oh, c'mon!
Pinky: Nice.
Pesto: I only met her a month ago. She smells like cheese most of the time.
Pinky: What, 'coz of all dat dick she sucked?
Pesto: Yes...no...maybe...I DUNNO! God, I thought coming out here would take me mind off it, but the countryside's really boring! It's just a load of fields and rivers. And they don't do anything. They just sit there doing jack, it's not like The Blair Witch Project where people jump out at you.
Pinky: He's right, it is boring.
Wakko: Shall we go back?
Brain: Oh, no, come on, we could go for a swim? Skinny dipping? (The others look slightly disgusted) Yeah, you're right, probably be a bit gay.
Squit: Well, there's always Monopoly.
(They moan once again.)
Pinky: Fuck, fine, as long as I can be the dog.
Squit: Why?
Pinky: Reminds me of Benji.
(Squit N/R: This was great. Camping. Playing board games round the fire as the sun went down. It was like I was back in Cub Scouts, but without the unpleasantness.)
(At night, they were still playing Monopoly.)
Pinky: Miami, with a hotel, that's $1,500 you owe me, Top Hat.
Squit: Can I pay you after I pass Go? I'm nearly there.
Pinky: Nope.
Squit: (frustrated) Oh, c'mon. This is impossible. I can barely see. I've not been able to see anything for fuckin' hours! Let's just stop.
Brain: OK, we'll call it a draw.
Pinky: Fuck you, just because I'm winning and all you've got is just cities!
Pesto: I'm happy to call it a draw, y'know.
Pinky: Course you are, 'coz you were out four hours ago anyway, you fuckin' idiot!
Pesto: Y'all think I'm dumb, but I've got street smarts!
Brain: You got a woman from Walmart pregnant in her lunch hour.
Pesto: (pondered) Oh.
Pinky: I'll build another fire.
Squit: It's too dark to collect wood and you've burnt everything I own!
Pinky: Well, fine, I'll...I'll get Brain's shitty car and shine the lights over here.
Brain: Fine. Here ya go. (hand's Pinky his car keys)
Pinky: Thanks, mah boy!
(Pinky runs to Brain's car and turns on the headlights.)
(Squit N/R: This was embarrassing. I hadn't lost a game of Monopoly since I was 7. And yet I was about to be beaten by Pinky, a man who took pride in the fact that he couldn't count to 100.)
Squit: He really wants to win, doesn't he? I never knew he was so competitive.
Pesto: (eating sausages) I can't get enough of these sausages.
Wakko: (eating sausages) Yeah. I love 'em raw in the middle.
Pinky: Right, done. (he gets out of the car and shuts the door) Mission accomplished! Now you owe me $1,500. And you can pay me right fuckin' now!
(Brain's car was about to roll down into the lake.)
Brain: Pinky, my fucking car! (he stops his car from going down) Handbrake?
Pinky: Oh, shit, sorry.
Brain: Quick, everyone. Stop it!
(The others stopped the car except for Pinky.)
Brain: Pinky, help!
Pinky: Okay, calm your tits! (as he helped stopping the car)
Brain: (tried to unlock it) It's locked. Pinky, throw me the keys.
Pinky: I don't have them.
Brain: The fuck are you talkin' about, what do you mean you don't have them?!
Pinky: I gave them to you.
Brain: No, you didn't.
Pinky: Yeah, I did.
Brain: (getting angry) No, you fucking didn't!
Pinky: Brilliant, someone's gone and lost the fuckin' keys.
Squit: (looks at Pinky while being concerned) Yes, you. You've lost them.
Brain: You must have locked them in the car. (he panics) Oh, God! Oh, God!
Squit: Sorry, Brain. We'll have to smash a window or something.
Brain: (furious) Pinky, you dolt, Imma kill you for that!
Pinky: It's not my fault.
Brain: It is entirely your fault!
Pinky: I always lock my car like that!
Pesto: But yours must be different.
Wakko: It's shitty, for one.
Brain: (sarcastically angry) Thanks, Wak!
Pinky: If my lil' bro was here, he'd be able to get into it in two seconds flat. He used to jack Ferraris in New York City for the Mafia.
Brain: (bops Pinky in the head with a pencil in anger) How is that total bullshit helpful?!
Squit: Enough! OK, you three hold it. We'll go and find something to smash a window with.
Pinky: (rubbing his head looking dizzy) Hey! Why do me, Pesto and Wak have to hold the fuckin' car?!
Squit: Well, obviously, because you three are the strongest.
(Pinky, Pesto and Wakko hold the car.)
Pesto: Huh. It's true, we are.
Brain: What the fuck, why are there no rocks?! It's the countryside! Why aren't there any fuckin' rocks?! What are we gonna smash the window with now?!
Squit: Well, I dunno. Pinky's face?!
(Brain and Squit leave to find the rocks.)
Pinky: My arms hurt. I don't know why they're bothering to get rocks anyways. The way I look at it, it's inevitable that the car's gonna dive into the lake.
Wakko: I suppose it's nature. You can't fight nature.
Pesto: Exactly.
Pinky: It's going in anyway, I'm legitimately sweatin', my arms achin', we might as well just let go.
Pesto: Do you think Brain will kill us all?
Pinky: How can he? He hates it anyways. It's logical. We can't stop it.
Wakko: We are stopping it now.
Pinky: It's inevitable, Wak, trust me. We'll let go after three, do ya hear?
Pesto & Wakko: Gotcha.
Pinky: One, two, three. Go!
(They let go of the car as the car starts rolling down again. Brain and Squit finally got some rocks but Brain saw his car going down as he panicked and dropped the rocks.)
Brain: NO! Oh, God. Oh, God! Oh, God! Oh, God! Oh, God!
(The car went into the lake as there was a short silence, then Pesto picked the rock up and smashed the back window.)
Brain: Why did you do that?!
Pesto: You said smash a window. Look, there ya go!
Brain: NO! No, no, no! (Brain went into the lake and tried to get his car out and shortly gives up, looking at Pinky, Squit, Pesto and Wakko furiously) You assholes. You total pair of fuckin' scumbags!
Pesto: Relax, B. We'll just wait 'til morning and rescue it when the tide's out.
Brain: It's just a fucking lake, Pesto, the tide isn't going out! (He emotionally tears up) I've wasted my whole 14 years hanging around with you fuckin' morons! I wish I'd never met y'all at all! I can't wait to move to Swansea! I fuckin' hate you, fuck you! FUCK YOU!
Squit: Come on, Brain, come outta the water and dry off, you could get sick, I'm sure we'll think of something.
Brain: You never think of anything. You've just got an accent that makes us think you're clever, but you're not, are ya?! You're just as much of a fuckin' idiot as these three!
Squit: (he frowns) Wow, harsh.
Brain: You scumbags, you total, total scumbags! (he continues to get the car out) Oh, God! Oh, God! Oh, God! Oh, God! Oh, God! (he gives up trying to get the car out)
Wakko: Do you want a lager, B?
Brain: Yes, please.
(Brain got out of the lake as they all go back to the camping area.)
Pinky: (he took Brain's keys out of his back pocket) Oh, shit! I did have the keys.
Squit: Uhhh...yeah. Probably wouldn't mention it. Like ever!
Pinky: Y'right! As a matter of fact! (he throws the car keys into the lake and leaves)
(Squit N/R: So, Brain's shitty yellow Fiat was gone forever.)
The Final Part: A Disgustingly Happy Ending
(But look on the bright side, at least Pinky did beat me at Monopoly now despite I've lost $1,500. But the last thing I wanted to have is Pesto burning my $10,000 suitcase for fire.)
(Squit and Brain watching Squit's suitcase being burnt down.)
Squit: Hey. Which do you think burns better, B, my suitcase or my dignity? Heh, heh, heh, heh. (sighs all sadly)
Brain: Yeah, ha-ha. Nice try, but this is now officially the worst night I've ever had. Let's just go home.
Wakko: How?
Squit: Call your dad, B. If you think about it, it's sort of his fault we're here anyways.
Brain: Ha, sorry, no chance. He's gonna go ballistic about picking us up at 2 in the morning. What about your lil' bro, Pinky?
Pinky: Nah. He's out with my dad, private poker tournament in Las Vegas with Danny Dyer and the Krays.
Squit: Wait. Aren't the Krays dead?
Pinky: No! That's just a cover story cos they done a bunk from prison. They're holed up in one of me dad's warehouses.
Brain: Of course.
(short silence)
Pinky: Shall we swap phones again to cheer us all up.
Squit: Sure, why not.
(They all swap their phones back to their previous precision)
Pinky: (reads text) Oh, Brain, you got a message for your insurance company, they said, "We're sorry about the car. One of our retarded staff sended you the wrong car. Just burn it, dump it, kill it with fire. We're sorry for the delay for the last 2 years. Your old one will be back in 2 days." Hmph, looks like you're not in trouble at all, Brain.
Brain: (confused but relieved) Huh, that was anticlimactic. Plus, I knew they tried to rip me off anyways.
Squit: (reads text) Oh. Looks like your dad and your brother are taking a break from that made-up poker tournament, Pinky. Your dad's just texted you back.
Pinky: Oh, shit. What did he say?
Squit: "You're sick, son. Your ma was right about sending you to that shrink."
Pinky: (looks nervous) What's he on about, that fuckin' asshole? Talkin' jack-shit as usual.
Wakko: (checks phone) You got a text, too, Pesto. It's from your babe. Maybe you should read it. (gives phone back to Pesto)
Pesto: Oh, thank you, God. Thank you.
Pinky: She said yes to the marriage proposal?
Pesto: Even better. It says, "You dopey prick. Not pregnant. Tested positive for" What's that say, Squit?
Squit: (read carefully) "Chlamydia."
Pesto: Nice! (short silence) Dafuq's chlamydia?
Squit: Well, how shall I put this, Pesto? You no longer have a child on the way but you do have an STD.
Pesto: (celebrates) I got an STD! Yes, an STD! Whoo!
Pinky: (continues to reads texts) Oh. It's from Billie and your dad. It says… (Brain snatches his phone back from Pinky) Douche!
(Brain reads the text from Billie and his dad, then suddenly smiles.)
Pinky: (curiously) Well?
Squit: Shall we go to bed? It is getting late.
Wakko: Yep, good idea.
(They all went in the tent.)
Pinky: Well...what did it say?
(Squit N/R: Brain was never this cagey. When it came to Billie or his dad, he normally wore his heart on his sleeve and his boner in his pants. Maybe he had other things on his mind.)
(Brain looks at the light in the tent while he was lying down.)
Brain: (slightly annoyed) So we had a light this whole time?
Pinky: Oh, shit, yeah. Forgot about that one. Sorry, man.
Brain: So, my car went into the lake for no reason?
Pesto: I'm upset too, B. I got my first hand job in that car. Who's gonna wanna gimme a hand job when I'm a dad?
Pinky: You're not gonna be a dad, remember, Pesto?
Pesto: (pondered) Oh, yeah!
Pinky: Whatever. Look, even if we did get it out, I doubt it would work anyway. I think the engine's flooded.
Brain: Is that supposed to be funny, Pinky?
Pinky: Did I say it was funny tho?
Brain: (pondered) Good point. I also felt happy I'm not going to Swansea next week. My grandpa cancelled the trip because he was broke.
(They all laugh.)
(Squit and Wakko came into the tent looking disgusted.)
Brain: How was the trench?
Squit: (looking disgusted) Wakko and I had to wipe our asses with leaves.
Brain: (disgusted) Jesus.
Squit: And I think there were some ants in there, so I now literally have ants in my pants. And soil, and some earwigs.
Wakko: I never wanna do that again.
Pesto: Hey. Do you remember that first time we slept in a tent in my back garden and Pinky pissed himself? (laughs)
Brain: Yeah, we had to come in the house at about midnight because Pinky got scared. (laughs)
Pinky: Yeah, I was scared that Pesto's dad was about to come out and rape us!
Pesto: (furious and disgusted) Just...go fuck yourself.
Squit: And on that familiar note, it's good night. (lies down in his sleeping bag) Sorry about your car, B.
Brain: Doesn't matter. It was a piece-of-shit car, anyway. Thanks for the send-off. For the last 2 years, I always knew they were trying to scam me in the first pla... (holds his nose) Jesus, that stinks, Pesto, was that a fart?
Pesto: Nah, Wakko and I burped. It ain't great, though.
Wakko: Yeah, I think it's them sausages.
Brain: Whatever. Good night.
Pinky: Well, I'll get the fuckin' light, then, shall I? (turns off the light) Night, mah boys.
(long silence)
Wakko: B, I was wondering, when you die?
Brain: Yeah?
Wakko: What do you want us to do with Squit? Like, look after him and stuff?
Squit: I'm not a stray cat, Wak.
Pinky: Yeah, but you do shit in a hole in the ground tho. (laughs)
Squit: (sarcastically) Gee, thanks.
Wakko: I just worry about you, that's all.
Squit: I think I'll be fine. Good night. (lies back down) Thanks, though, Wak.
(Wakko suddenly vomits on Squit)
Squit: (furious/disgusted) UGH! FUCKIN' HELL, IT'S IN MY HAIR!
Wakko: (feeling dizzy) I think it's the sausages.
Pinky: (panics and turns the light back on) Fuck dat! I've gotta get out. I've gotta get out!
Brain: (disgusted) Oh, God, the smell. It always makes me puke.
Squit: Please don't puke in here.
Brain: Oh no. (vomits)
Squit: (disgusted/annoyed) Oh, you have.
Wakko: I don't feel well. (vomits again)
(Brain pukes again)
Pesto: Help me! (vomits so much)
Pinky: Oh, shit, the smell. Oh, God, doublepuke!
Squit: JUST GET THE FUCKIN' TENT OPEN, PINKY!
Pinky: (tries to find the zip) I can't find the zip! I can't find the zip! Oh no! (vomits on the tent zip)
(Squit looks at his mini-blade as he knew what he had to do.)
Squit: (angrily) Great!
(Squit rips the tent with the mini-blade and got out, so did Pinky, Brain, Pesto and Wakko. They started walking away together abandoning a damaged tent, a burnt suitcase and Brain's shitty car in the forest)
Squit: (reads text) Oh, my mom's texted me back.
Brain: Is she up for some back door action?
Squit: Nope, it said, "I love you too but I think you're on weed. No offence."
Pinky: If she's up for it, Pesto should get to do her, cos it was his text that got her kinky.
Pesto: True.
Squit: Obviously she's not up for it.
Brain: How do you know?
Wakko: Does it say that pacifically?
Squit: Specifically.
Pesto: Are you sayin' she only likes it in her axe wound? Ha.
Squit: Seriously guys, c'mon, we've got a long walk ahead of us, I'm covered in puke, can we just drop the "yo mama" jokes?
Pinky: I'd like to drop yo mama's jokes. Get it?
(They all laugh while they were walking away from the forest.)
Squit: Okay, that's brilliant, I give ya that! Heh, heh!
(short silence)
Pinky: (putting on his fake Cockney accent) So what are we doing now, Brain?
Brain: The same thing we DON'T do every night, Pinky! Try and call my dad 'coz we're fuckin' lost! (laughs)
Pinky: Yep. Good idea.
Squit: Yep.
Pesto: Yep.
Wakko: Yep.
Brain: (relieved) When I get home, my dad's gonna kick...my...ass!
THE END!
This is the 4th fanfiction episode of The Outsiders. Thx. Hope you liked it.
If you didn't read the last chapter of Tsurune don't read the ask: OMG! I almost get killed in this "Masa-san lightly pinched Minato’s cheeks and pulled them" and in the car scene.I laughed so hard on minato he's really didn't think about hiding his feeling lol. what do you think about the chapter?
Took me almost two full days to reply to this, and if that doesn’t speak volumes about how wild this chapter was, then I don’t know what would.
I’d read spoilers of volume 2 right after it came out so I already knew what was gonna go down, and being very honest, the cheek pinching was something I’d actually expected to see at some point after reading the summaries of volume 1. And rather than wishing for it, I was waiting for it because it seemed so obvious to me that this was gonna happen one way or another. I mean, it’s just so much like Masaki to do something of that sort, lmao. But I admit I expected it to happen in a daily-situation scene and not… like this. As always, Ayano surpassed my expectations on the unapologetically huge amounts of gay.
I’ve mentioned this topic in my post about the differences between the novel and the anime. Minato may keep a lot of secrets from everyone, yet Masaki has been the sole exception to this ever since they met. I mean, look at volume 1. It’s basically Minato hiding nearly every important thing from literally everybody except his conveniently-there-by-narrative-default master. Volume 2′s chapter 3 is basically a massive meme based off this plot device, like:Shuu: *touches Masaki*Minato: Sir, that’s my emotional support coach.Anyway, my point is that Minato doesn’t hide anything from Masaki, ever. Not even the most embarrassing shit.
The chapter was very interesting. It was rather entretaining to see how inept Eisuke actually is regarding himself. The novel often references Amanojaku, so I was wondering if we’d ever get an Amanojaku-ish character, and sure enough, here he is.
Other than that, good God. Minato is such a fucking embarrassment. I adore this walking fivehead so much. Had to put the extent of my love for him and this chapter under a cut because it’s probably the lenghtiest ask response I’ve ever written.
I think I can’t even pinpoint what the best thing about this chapter was. Like, the details are very subtly placed in all the right spots as always, and this is probably what leaves the bigger impressions on me. And by “details” I mean the subtext and symbolisms.
For starters, Ayano knows very well how to fuck with plant language nerds. She’s used a lot of it with Masaki and Minato, and it feels like the bar just keeps going up. First it was oaks (strength and knowledge), then bamboo (inspiration), then azaleas (developing passion), and now it’s freaking bellflowers. What’s more: the ones that Minato stopped by were spotted bellflowers. They’re known for their heart-shaped foliage. In flower language, bellflowers stand for gratitude and unwavering love. And sure enough, Minato doesn’t waver at all before going into that bakery and buying a batch of cinnamon buns (did it really have to be that of all things, omg) for Masaki, specifically.
I can’t stress how wholly, completely, utterly unnecessary that was. There’s no heterosexual explanation to it. I mean, there’s no heterosexual explanation to a lot of things about these two, but the romantic connotation was really heavy on this one. You have to use a fucking magnifier to find the platonic in this bullshit, and it’s still hella hard to ignore the implications. It’s even harder when Minato is berating himself for buying the buns on impulse when he heard that they go well with coffee and thinking about how irritated he feels when Shuu is around Masaki. He doesn’t even try to pretend that he’s not jealous. Be more like any other oblivious sports anime protagonist and let me die in peace, for fuck’s sake.
I’m just trying to pretend that I don’t know cinnamon is associated with romantic love and often used to inflame passion, because that’s too fucking much.
On other news, I’m highly pleased that we get SeiKai hints even when Seiya and Kaito don’t show up together. Kaito mentioning Seiya’s name every two or three sentences and approaching Minato simply because he saw Kuma and thought that maybe Seiya was there was gold, tbh. It was a good break before the mattress fire that happens right after.
The way Minato found out that Masaki meant well and didn’t want him to become like he was in the past was just so priceless. Take this shit straight to the face, son. Get fucking wrecked by how much he cares about you.
It’s also really freaking hilarious to me how everything that concerns Minato’s relationship with Masaki involves shoujo manga tropes. Envious of your rightful rival being too long around your master? Check. Learning the hard way that it was all for your sake? Check. Getting frustrated and shouting like a bitch at the irony of it? Check.
Minato is Minato, though, so of course he acknowledges that he wants Masaki by his side in spite of this. Did he have to do that while lying in bed, though? I think the fuck not.
And cue Masaki texting him immediately while he’s doing that, because Masaki always shows up when he wants to see him, and because this has turned into a romantic comedy, apparently? Love me that age-old cliché where the main character goes to the window after getting a message and finds the person who’d been occupying their thoughts standing there by sheer unadulterated coincidence, and they fucking heard you, you little shit.
This comes in a set with the “first visit and you’re already inviting him to his room” trope because why not follow all the way down with the romcom narration structure since we’re already at it? Double entendrees every three phrases or so because go big or go home.
“Dad isn’t home yet, so should we go upstairs?”
Yeah, lmao, that’s what about every shoujo heroine says before getting lectured on how they “shouldn’t make that sort of invitation to a guy”.
“It feels great. Thank you, Masa-san.”
It doesn’t feel so great not being able to overlook this, Ayano.
“Well, I may not look it, but I am your master after all.”
SHUT THE FUCK UP, JESUS CHRIST.
Seriously, this shit only loses to Fifty Shades of Takehaya and his more than unasked-for lines about “punishing” and “thoroughly training” Kaito. Sure, none of this is on the level of dirty jokes, but the subtleties are still too many.
The fluff is what gets you good, though. Because that was fluff right there. No, it doesn’t classify as hurt/comfort. These bastards fluffy. I just wanna know who managed to stay upright after reading about Minato feeling his heart ache because it had been too long since the last time he’d seen Masaki smile at him, ‘cause I sure as fuck didn’t.
No time is wasted before they off their asses to the place where they first met, which is basically a world of their own at nighttime (it’s named Yata Shrine for a reason; fuck that reason). And of course there had to be your usual load of elusive language in the middle, where the destination is pitch-dark but the road there is all wildlife and stars and this sparkly wave of light at the end of the tunnel. Welcome to the land of bitch, this isn’t a shoujo, stop acting like one.
Or don’t. We’re indulging. Screaming internally the entire time, but still indulging.
The dialogue is so obviously crafted to seem like something else that it’s useless to pretend it wasn’t inentional. I already knew what was coming but reading about the whole thing was an experience.
“I’m happy that you became my coach at Kazemai but I’m also not, because I don’t get to keep you for myself.”
Did he have to say it like that? Abso-fucking-lutely not. But he did anyway, because since when does Narumiya Minato give a flying fuck about ambiguity versus precision?
Six kinds of gay here. And all of them confirm that Minato’s “mixed feelings” when seeing Kaito being so familiar with Masaki from the get-go were, in fact, pure jealousy. It’s not even envy, because that’s wanting something someone has and you don’t. Minato was even closer to Masaki than Kaito was at that point, so it was all just his Masaki-exclusive greed speaking, plain and simple.
This is what gets me about this scene, tbh. It’s so much like Minato to say that, but it’s so alien to read it in a shounen novel. I don’t recall seeing anything so direct and raw in any sports franchise aside from Yuri on Ice. The most we get is “I wanna do [insert sport here] with you”. But this case is a blatant “we’d be doing the thing we like together one way or another and I’d have preferred if no one else were involved”.
And this comes right before we get a reminder that Minato doesn’t like it when Masaki treats him as a child, again. That’s… something. I hate this something a lot.
Also, it feels like the two of them are having completely different conversations with each other. Masaki is talking about his struggle coaching Minato and pointing out the crap he has to deal with in having a student whose last words are probably gonna be something stupid like “oops” or “oh, shit”, and Minato is countering with apparently completely unrelated arguments.
“But didn’t you let Shuu touch your belly, Masa-san?”
The fuck does that have to do with anything? How is that of any relevance to the conversation? What is this gay nonsense?
“If anyone else heard only that, I’d sound like a pervert, wouldn’t I? Did you want to touch it too, Minato?”
JUST DISMISS IT, YOU MOTHERFUCKER. DON’T ENCOURAGE HIS FOLLY. LET IT DIE.
“I’m no pervert, so I’m good.”
And now the moment of crushing honesty is over. Time for lies and derision because we all saw earlier in this chapter that (I can’t believe I’m actually writing this) Minato did, in fact, want to touch Masaki. Boy just called himself a pervert, indirectly. Gotta congratulate him for playing himself for, like, the hundredth time, I guess.
Of course Masaki would get emo in this scene sooner or later, because the fact that he’s dealing with the most reckless character out of the cast is apparently not a pertinent reason for things to have ended up the way they did. And of course Minato was gonna do something about it. It’s almost obligatory by now that they lift each other up.
WHY LIKE THIS, THOUGH?
Like, there’s just too much here that doesn’t translate into a master-student thing. Okay, I can totally see that in the dialogue but the actions are screaming something else entirely. Obviously, as I always say, I’m not gonna label it as romantic. What I’m talking about is: this isn’t the behavior of someone interacting with a teacher, but of a person with another. I mean, no matter how you look at it, there would have been a lot to consider here regarding the minimum of restraint that one should have around their mentor or at least around their elders, but Minato is basically saying “fuck you” to all of this.
Yeah, sure, go reach out to grab his hand and gently brush his bangs off his eyes simply because you can’t help the urge to look into them. No big deal. It’s just the affection of a disciple. Anyone else would have done the exact same.
I JUST WANNA TALK, AYANO. I JUST WANNA TALK.
Not trying to stereotype or devalue the worth of teacher-student relationships. Just back to my previous point: you don’t do this shit to a teacher, realistically speaking. And even if anyone hypothetically had any gall to do that, neither the teacher nor any onlooker would disconsider it an advance. Anybody would find it a little bit out of place at the very, very least.
Also, that declaration? Literally Minato swearing he would have Masaki be the one teaching him for the rest of his life? This after having said similar bullshit like claiming that he would never let Masaki go or that he’d follow Masaki to the grave. The bar just keeps going up. So, in short, “you don’t have to be my master but I’ll be damned if you’re not my master forever”.
Ayano, you’re murdering us. You’re murdering your readers.
“I feel more relaxed when I talk to you, Masa-san.”
No news here but thank you for saying it anyway. There had to be icing on this cake. And the cherry on top was Masaki’s explanation about the word “talking”. Are you telling us that these idiots hand their hearts over to each other every time they open up like this, Ayano? IS THAT WHAT YOU’RE FUCKING SAYING, AYANO?
Love me all of Minato’s non-existent heterosexuality being killed with fire.
I imagine that Minato must have made the cutest face when seeing Fuu again. Fuu, the owl with a heart-shaped face, showing up at the most convenient time. Because heart-shaped leaves weren’t enough, apparently.
The end of this chapter made me feel a tiny bit bad for Shuu, though, because it was one more instance of something that he and Minato and no one else had in common that got overwritten and outshone. It’s definitely a parallel to when they were little kids learning under Saionji and hiding it from everyone until a certain point, yelling at the top of their lungs and being competitive while taking things seriously to an extent. Here, we have Minato and Masaki in perfect sync, reproducing the exact same thing that Shuu and Minato had learned so many years ago but with experient successfulness and also complete harmony. And this time, it’s 100% their secret only, taking place at night without the knowledge of anybody, with no audience, no parents and no teacher.
It’s… too much, lmao. In every sense. Shuu literally stands no fucking chance next to Masaki and I love it. *broadcast lady voice* Fujiwara Shuu. Repeating; Fujiwara Shuu. Your wife Senichi is waiting for you at Kirisaki High.
And of course, the chapter had to be closed with a finishing blow. God fucking dammit. Minato packing coffee to share with Masaki would have been enough, but nay, Masaki also had to bring the fucking oyaki. From the fact that they’ve had oyaki together before at the shrine and that these oyaki are from the bakery where Minato had bought the cinnamon rolls without a second thought, it’s sort of really obvious that Masaki bought them to eat together with him.
I didn’t ask for any of this and now I need to lie the fuck down.
Grounded - Freitag 22:48
a/n: friday predictions. english is not my native language.
As soon as he could feel Leonie’s delicate fingers drawing circles on his shoulder, he knew he could no longer pretend the way she had been acting was just innocent and friendly. The wine was making her significantly more touchy and it was only a matter of time until she would feel brave enough to actually make a move on him.
He really should have known better from the start. He should have said no when she dragged him to Abdi’s birthday party as her goddamn plus one, like that wasn’t an obvious sign of where this was going.
The problem was, David genuinely liked her and he didn’t want to brush her off without any reason. And the real, actual problem was, that he liked Matteo and he’d take any excuse to show up at his apartment, no matter how shitty it was. He kept telling himself he was better than that, that he wouldn’t fuck around with a guy who had a girlfriend. But then he found himself giving in to Matteo’s advances and even texting him good morning, after leaning in to kiss Matteo the night before. David really tried his best so stay away, but this boy was making it really difficult for him.
Tonight had been no better. Matteo kept staring over at him, his looks burning with jealousy and desire, his emotions written all over his face, for everyone to read. For David to read.
Currently, Carlos and Abdi were telling some story about one of their drunken escapades in a ridiculous tandem, constantly interrupting and talking over each other. It was funny enough to capture the utmost attention of the small circle sitting around the coffee table, all of them leaning closer together to hear them over the music.
David had been peeling of the label on his beer bottle, intently staring down at it so he could ignore Leonie’s arm slung over his shoulder. When he lifted his head again, he instinctively looked over to Matteo, who was only a few meters away on the couch with Sara cuddled into his side. She was kissing down his neck while Matteo apathetically stared at the ceiling, one of his hands lazily resting in her blonde hair. God, he wasn’t even trying.
But then something happened.
Like so many times before, Matteo caught David’s eye and it was like a spark lit up in the other boy. His eyes glazed over, this time not in detachment but in something else entirely. As he leaned his neck back to expose more of his skin to Sara, his lips parted ever so slightly and his hands tightened in her hair. His eyes didn’t leave David’s for even a second. The world around them disappeared, and all David could feel was the rapid beating of his heart in is chest and all he could see was the deepening blush on Matteo’s cheeks.
Jesus Christ, this guy had no shame, no fucking shame at all. The noises of the party came crashing in again, alongside a sudden anger burning its way through his body. Matteo really didn’t have a filter, he was overflowing with attraction and want, throwing all of it down David’s feet without thinking twice about it.
And what was he supposed to do with it? It’s like Matteo was asking him to be the asshole to break Sara’s heart. Like it should be him who pulls Matteo out of his miserable relationship so he wouldn’t have to end it himself. It wasn’t fair and it made David so fucking mad. Because all of Matteo’s desire and longing meant nothing, if he wasn’t even willing to end it with a girl he had no feelings for in the first place. He could make heart eyes at David all he wanted but he didn’t really want to take action, not in any way that was mattered, and it was so aggravating.
Jumping of the couch, he pushed Leonie’s arm off his shoulders, not looking down to avoid seeing her disappointed face as he said “I’m going for a smoke” in a tone that hopefully suggested she shouldn’t follow him.
Outside, he lit his cigarette with shaky hands as he walked down to the corner of the street, bringing some distance between him and the boy who kept reaching out to him. As much as David wanted to reach back, he knew he couldn’t be vulnerable with Matteo. The boy wasn’t ready to be serious.
But of course, and it should have been entirely predictable to him, Matteo had followed him outside, always chasing after some time alone with him.
A lot could be said about Matteo’s perceptiveness, but apparently even he had noticed that David was mad at him. He came with his shoulders hunched and eyes downcast.
“I’m sorry.” He didn’t look like he knew what he was apologizing for.
David turned his body away from him, staring at the night sky instead of meeting his eyes, taking a long drag of his cigarette. He only ever smoked when he was really drunk or really overwhelmed.
“Matteo. You have a girlfriend.” Looking over, he could see realization dawn on Matteo’s face, like he hadn’t even been aware that his relationship could have bothered David at all.
“You mean Sara?”
“Yeah? Don’t tell me she’s your sister now.”
“Oh no. Ew.” Despite himself he couldn’t suppress his smile, an inevitable reaction to the way Matteo scrunched up his nose in disgust. Without really noticing it, he had turned back to facing him and they were close again. His resolve has always been shitty around Matteo. The blonde took the cigarette out of his hand and brought it to his own lips before speaking again.
“That’s… not really going anywhere. She’s sweet, you know? I think she really cares about me. She seems worried all the time. I don’t know I just thought we could… I don’t know.” He ended a little haplessly. Once again he was looking at David like he could finish his sentence for him, tell him what to think and what to say. He didn’t. So Matteo tried again.
“I thought I could make it work with her. If I just gave us enough time, I would eventually feel the same. Because I should, right? There’s no reason not to. She’s hot, she’s kind and she likes me. And she wants to fuck me. But none of it is working like I thought it would. I can’t do it. Not when you’re around.”
As brave as he usually was, Matteo couldn’t bring himself to look at David during that, like his honesty was freezing his whole body into place.
Gently, David took the cigarette back in his hand, making their fingers brush slightly.
“Wow. I don’t think you’ve ever been this articulate.”
He grinned at Matteo, breaking a little of their tension so he could see how the other boy smiled in relief and opened up his posture again by leaning his shoulders back. David really liked how comfortable they could be around each other when they weren’t wrapped up in awkward conversations.
“I’d say you’re an asshole, but you’re probably right.” He playfully kicked David’s ankle with the tip of his shoe, slightly throwing him of balance and sending him stumbling has he snatched the cigarette from David’s hand once again. They stood next to each other in silence for a while, just breathing in the air and the smoke. It had rained just before they came outside and the air was still thick and heavy with the scent of damp grass and earth.
“You know. I think maybe you couldn’t have made it work either way. Even if I wasn’t around.”
Matteo audibly swallowed, the corners of his mouth pulling down slightly.
“Yeah. Maybe.”
The cigarette fell to the ground, glinting one last time as Matteo stomped it out.
“I’m sorry” This time, he sounded more sincere. “About Sara. About what I did… about what I’m doing to her. I don’t want to hurt her anymore. I mean it.”
“You don’t have to apologize to me about that.”
“I know, but it feels good to say it. Real.”
Yeah. It all felt very real. Like a lot of things often didn’t feel for David. Sometimes, it was as if he was wandering through a haze, where nothing had any kind of meaning and he was just stringing life along, existing until the next big thing happened. Matteo made him feel grounded in a way, like he was really there for the things that happened between them. And it was exciting, scary, new and so, so real.
They turned to face each other again, Matteo shamelessly crowding his space. But he wasn’t pushy, telegraphing every movement he was about to make. Slowly, ever so slowly, he brought his hand to David’s neck, his fingers curling in the short hair there with a quiet but firm insistence. Closing his eyes, he brought their foreheads together, delicately rubbing his nose against David’s in a way that felt indescribably intimate and close. Just like they had earlier, Matteo’s lips parted in anticipation.
“Matteo. Not until you’ve broken up with your girlfriend.” David wishes he could say he was doing this for Sara, but he wasn’t. This was pure self-preservation.
“Okay. Not until I’ve broken up with my girlfriend.” Matteo echoed back. He wasn’t leaning in any further, but he wasn’t moving away either, keeping them both in this moment for as long as long as he possibly could. The hand on David’s neck, the press of their foreheads, it all made him feel Matteo’s desperation. How badly he wanted them to be closer. They had to break apart or they would just explode with he tension, David was sure of it.
Matteo began to move again, but he wasn’t ready to part with David just yet. He buried his nose in David’s neck, right in that soft spot behind his ear and breathed him in. The hand on his neck became gentle and soft again, moving into David’s hair and playing with the dark strands. Matteo slipped his other hand, very carefully, under his shirt, cold fingers grazing the sensitive skin of his lower back in a way that didn’t ask for anything more than the simple intimacy of being close.
“’S this okay?” Matteo whispered into David’s collarbone, so quietly that he wouldn’t have heard him if they had been any further apart.
It really wasn’t. They were standing in the middle of the sidewalk and if either Leonie or Sara saw them there, they would have no doubt about what was going on here. And beside all of that, every rational thought in David’s body screamed at him to never, ever trust a guy who says he’d break up with his girlfriend for you. That story never ended well.
But just like Matteo, he could feel the magnetic pull between them, inevitably drawing them together.
Just like Matteo he felt the need to finally touch someone and be touched in a way that mattered.
So that’s why he pulled Matteo closer, tenderly slipping one of his hands under his sweatshirt in turn, to feel the warm skin under his fingertips. To feel connected and grounded in his presence, breathing everything in.
The lingering smoke in the air and in their breaths, the heavy smell of rain and finally just Matteo. Soft and warm, despite the cold spring night surrounding them. For the first time in forever, he felt like he had both feet on the ground, like he was planted in this moment and he never wanted to leave.
Science and Progress: Chapter One
TMNT Human!AU Storyline for Donatello x Lily
Chapter One
Being part of a large family was a blessing and a curse. Everyone seems to fill a roll, and the family rolls on like a machine, sometimes well-oiled, sometimes like a train wreck, depending on the day. When that roll is the one that has family members asking for help, whether it be answering questions or fixing things, the feeling is amplified. There is a sense of validation with being able to help, to sometimes have answers to problems before they even became an issue. On the flip side of that coin, it can mean that simple problems easily solved by common sense or a quick Google search are often presented, and pile up over time.
Such was Donatello’s day, and it wasn’t even noon yet. Their morning training had been over for a while, but there were still hours to go before their afternoon classes. Splinter had left on one of his walks, and the home situation had devolved quickly thereafter. All he wanted to do was sit at his computers and get some research done on possible upgrades to his holo, but it was nearly impossible with his brothers in the same space. Leo and Raph were arguing, which was not at all a shocking surprise, but certainly a weary annoyance. Mikey had taken the opportunity to play his video games at full volume without his headphones on so he “could still talk to everyone,” which, with the other two bickering, meant talking to *him*. He tried keeping his headphones on to tune it all out, but Mikey had started throwing things when he didn’t answer, so the headphones only caused more trouble than they were worth.
“You’re missing the entire point, we need you here more,” Leo tried to reason, his voice as strained as his patience.
“Jesus Christ, Leo, I’m a phone call away. I have my gear, it’s not that far,” Raph snapped back loudly. “I’m not a fuckin’ kid.”
“I’m not saying you are! I’m saying we need you here, ready to go, just in case. It made sense while Stacey was healing up, but she’s in her new place and Donnie has it all set up. It’s been months. It’s time to get back to normal,” Leo argued, and Donnie winced to himself. He’d been waiting for that bomb to drop their entire argument, and there it was. If there was one surefire way to set Raph off ever, it was to bring her up in any kind of negative aspect. Surely Leo knew that, had to have known it wouldn’t gain him any ground, so he wasn’t sure why he took that route.
“Maybe it is my new normal,” Raph hissed, his voice lowering to dangerous levels.
“Hey Donnie,” Mikey piped up over the loud crashing and sound effects of his game. “Do you know if there are any new texture packs or skins I can add to this? Like, it’d be totally awesome if I could put a different skin over the boss, make killing him funny. Like a Kardashian, boom, the lips explode or something.”
Pinching the bridge of his nose and resting his elbows against the desk, Donnie sighed heavily. “I don’t know, Mikey,” he said in a long suffering tone. “Why don’t you look it up?”
“Because you’re right therrrre,” he begged, looking over the back of the couch with a pout and batting his eyes. “Hey, maybe you could show me how to do it? Then we could make a Shredder skin or something, crush his helmet against his crotch.”
Donnie couldn’t think of much else he’d have less patience for right at that moment, than trying to teach Mikey how to code, let alone create skins. “It’s not quite that simple-”
“I’m gonna spend as much time as I damn well please with her, and there ain’t a damn thing you can do about it! You ain’t the boss of my life!”
“No, but I am the leader of this time, and not having you available puts everyone else at increased risk and responsibility, just so can go sleep with-”
“Don’t you dare fuckin’ finish that sentence, Leo, or I’m gonna finish it for you.”
“If it’s not that simple, maybe you could just do it for me? I could totally write a list of people or characters that it would be cool to have skins of, and then you could just bleep bloop do your thing, no trouble!”
“Mikey, I have more important things to do-”
“Is that a threat?” Leo snarled.
“If it needs to be.”
“What could be more important than creating a Kraang mega boss that I could shoot to pieces? I mean, just think about the glory and beauty of it!”
“Fucking Merlin’s beard!” Donnie cursed, shoving his rolling chair back away from his desk and lurching up onto his feet. “What the hell is wrong with all of you? Can’t you just be normal or at the very least *quiet* for five damn minutes? I understand the hashi now, and why dad leaves to go walk by himself. I used to think it was for reflection and meditation, but it’s gotta be to GET AWAY FROM YOU!”
Storming into his room, he grabbed up his messenger bag, stuffed his laptop into it angrily. Pulling on the first hoodie he found, he slung the bag on and marched out of his room, straight towards the door. The room had fallen silent, he noted with sardonic irony.
“Hey, where are you going?” Mikey asked, sounding a little hurt.
“To the library, where they *force* people to be quiet!” he snapped, slamming the door behind him.
Forgoing any public form of transportation, Donnie decided to walk to the library. It was a decent distance away, but not so much to be excessive. In any case, he figured giving himself time to cool off before he got there was probably a good idea. It was difficult to focus when he was that agitated, and it would simply ruin the entire reason he was leaving in the first place. In further thought, he figured it was probably a good thing to get out, it might give him a different perspective on ideas than usual. The fresh air certainly didn’t hurt anything, either.
Upon arriving, he skipped up the steps, feeling lighter already than he had upon leaving. It had been far too long since he’d been in the library, perused the shelves, let the scent of the pages and old leather bindings suffuse his senses. Walking a little taller as he pushed through the front doors, instantly feeling the atmosphere change for the better. He couldn’t help but smile to himself, taking a deep relieving breath and wandering off to check the shelves.
Time could either stand still in the library or pass by a shooting star, quickly disappearing if oblivious to the large grandfather clock at the top of the stairs. Nearly using all of her spare time to be there, it was slowly becoming a second home, along with the lecture halls and computer labs at the university. Her own bed now a little foreign as she rarely had time to spare even on sleeping. Surrounded by folders and books, countless scrap pieces of paper and notebooks, Lily busied herself away with her coursework. Chasing the always just out of reach dream to be a veterinarian, she found herself chasing her tail to catch up, especially after joining the semester late due to moving. New York was the city of dreams, or so she was told, and moving there had been a huge decision. One she was hoping she wouldn’t regret. Finding her groove that day while listening to music quietly in her headphones, her focus solely on her work, she happily bobbed away in her seat. Her bright red hair bounced against her shoulders, loosely sectioned into pigtails with ribbon that matched her pale grey cardigan. It wasn’t a cold day, but the large hall had a chill running through it, meaning wearing just a dress was a poor idea and needed something across her shoulders to keep the chill off her pale skin. Being a frequent visitor as of late, Lily could happily leave her stuff unattended on the table knowing the staff flitting around amongst the endless rows of bookshelves would keep an eye on it for her.
Tapping her pen against her hand, she pulled the cap off the end and clicked it back on, doing so in time with the beat before sitting back. Adjusting her glasses with a gentle push of her fingertips, she nodded to herself, happy with what she had just written before moving to stand up. Thankful her mother was a seamstress, she plopped her phone into her skirt pocket, neatening the frills before pushing her chair in, careful not to make any noise since she couldn’t fully hear herself with headphones on. Checking her notes again quickly, she tottered off into the maze of shelves, beginning her hunt for a specific unit in the science section. Luckily she knew the cover of the book well, but that didn’t stop it being a grande task, especially at her height. Even the slight heel on her shoes didn’t give her much advantage. Pouting she regretted putting the book away earlier, knowing it was likely put back on a higher shelf, making it even harder for her to find.
As Donnie perused for books, a few texts already beneath his arm, he found himself with company in the next aisle. Well over a foot shorter than himself, especially once he noted the high heels that were lifted off the floor as she ran a finger over bindings well over her head, he could tell she was having some difficulty. He walked up slowly, just in case she didn’t notice him with her headphones in. Her red hair bobbed against her shoulders as she dropped back down onto her heels, hands on her hips as she sighed heavily. A bright, open, kind face greeted him as she started to look around, and he gave her a little finger wave before pointing up at the shelves above her hesitantly.
Tugging out her earbuds, she fussed with stuffing them into a skirt pocket before looking back up at him shyly. “I’m so sorry to bother you, but would you mind helping me get a book?”
“Not at all,” he responded kindly, smiling softly. She was adorable, like a little pixie wandering the science shelves. It sounded like the beginning of a fantasy novel. “Which one are you looking for?”
“Oh thank you,” she sighed in relief, her nose crinkling her freckles as she thought. “It was ‘Germ-free Life and Gnotobiology.’ I’m so sorry to ask, you probably get that a lot, being so tall.”
“Oh, I don’t mind,” he admitted, for the first time that day feeling genuinely helpful and not simply convenient. Scanning the bindings, he quickly found it, scanning the cover before passing it down to her. “Are you doing research for laboratory work?”
“Oh no,” she answered, taking the book gently and hugging it against her chest. “I mean, thank you. But no, it’s a research paper for veterinary class. It’s looking over the way gnotobiotes are born, raised and taken care of in laboratory settings. Um, specifically how their immune systems are poor if they stay there, but some animals like pigs have better immune systems if they’re born in the germ-free environment and introduced to the outside environments. But oh my gosh. I’m so sorry, you probably didn’t need that much information just for pulling a book down. I get carried away.”
Chuckling a little, he couldn’t help but relate with her, and felt bad that she was apologizing for something he did himself on the daily. At the same time, the way she blushed made her even more cute. “I do that sometimes, too. Please don’t apologize, I actually find the topic very interesting. I’ve done some research on it myself.”
“Really?” she asked, her bright eyes going wide and seeming to light up. “What for?”
Realizing he hadn’t thought it through entirely, Donnie struggled with wondering if it would seem pretentious to admit ‘just because.’ Rubbing the back of his neck, he shrugged slightly, answering, “Personal research? I found another text that went into great detail, and wait, you know what? It was published more recently than that one, and it might have more relevant information for you.”
Hastily, he scanned the shelves, trying to remember where he had found it. “Ah!” he proclaimed, plucking off the shelf victoriously, bringing it back to her. “Gnotobiotics. They go into greater detail about inflammatory bowel diseases and intestinal immunity.”
“I didn’t know about this one, thank you,” she murmured, looking over it carefully, seemingly dwarfed by the two textbooks.
“If it’s useful! I’m not sure. I just remembered it,” Donnie stammered, suddenly feeling self-conscious. “If not, I can just stick it back up for you.”
Getting caught in trying to memorize the name of the author, she turned back up to him with wide eyes before hugging the book to herself. “Oh no no! I’ll definitely look at it too! Just so many names and words to remember now...” she chirped, adjusting the rather large books in her delicate hands. “The more the merrier I guess!” she added, swaying a little as she did, trying not to seem awkward but making herself look even more so by doing so. Catching the way he looked down at her, an endearing smile on his lips, she looked down at her feet. “Thank you. Sorry again for distracting you from your browsing.” Knowing her pale skin was igniting into a deep blush, she wanted to just hide away in her coursework again but couldn’t move her feet that were now cemented to the floor. “It’s really no trouble, honest, I haven’t even gotten an idea as to what I’m looking for myself yet.”
Not knowing how to excuse herself without seeming rude or just plain weird, she stammered, trying to think of something. As much as running out of any form of social interaction was her usual, keeping occupied with research and studying, something about the kindness and warmth in his eyes made her want to try. Maybe actually talking to someone and making friends wouldn’t be so bad. It’d be a welcome distraction. Maybe he could even help her. “Uhm... are you a student too?” Glancing at his bag and noticing he had some books in his hands, Lily couldn’t help but wonder now his reasoning for being there, if he had said he hadn’t an idea for something to read. Maybe it was just for personal enjoyment, maybe he was studying something similar to her. The thought of having someone to study with brought a smile to her lips again, her cheeks a rosy red that nearly matched her hair as she politely awaited his answer.
“No, not exactly,” he answered with a nervous chuckle. Looking at the books around him, he wondered if maybe he had found what he needed to after all. Talking to someone outside of his family, actually face to face couldn’t hurt anything. After all, he’d already done a decent amount of research on the topic she was studying, maybe he could help out, or at least give her someone to bounce ideas off of. If that was even something she was looking for, and not just a way out of an awkward conversation. “I do a lot of freelance work, for various people and companies. It never hurts to keep up to date on research and well… I guess it kinda makes me sound like a horrible nerd, but I actually enjoy it.”
Smiling up at him through her eyelashes, she shook her head. “No, I don’t think that makes you a horrible nerd at all!” she assured him, rocking back on her heels. “Maybe just a very good one?”
Laughing, he ran a hand through his hair, gesturing back at the books in her arms. “Well, I already did a fair amount of that research, maybe I could save you some time? If you want. If you prefer to do your studying in private, I completely understand that.”
“I would *love* some help,” she answered, her shoulders sagging a little with visible relief. “I’ve just been swamped with this course load. I feel like I’m always playing catch up, you know?”
“I think that’s the nature of research, to be frank. Do you already have your stuff set up, or should we find somewhere suitable?”
“Just over here, I left my things. Thank you so much for offering to help… I’m so sorry, I think I forgot to get your name?”
Holding out his hand, he grasped hers in a delicate handshake, surprised at just how tiny it was against his own. “Donatello,” he offered, tipping his head down towards her in a semi-bow, for some reason feeling it was the thing to do. “And to whom do I have the pleasure of meeting?”
“Lilian, but please call me Lily, I don’t like my grandma sounding name.” Giggling as she attempted to give his hand a firm squeeze, she managed to give him eye contact for more than just a few seconds this time.
Tilting her head at him once she took back her hand, needing it to support the large books against her chest, she hummed in thought, narrowing her eyes a little. “Donatello? Like after the Italian artist? Well, of course...I mean there aren’t many Donatello’s..” Giggling again to herself, she grinned up at him, delighted by the sound of him giggling with her. “Well, you’re not wrong. Yes, I am named after him, shame I don’t have the artist talent to go with it.”
Unable to stop herself from smiling up at him, she was losing track of time, forgetting almost about the books she held in her dainty arms or why she was even in the science section anymore. “We can’t have it all, I’m sure you’re talented with something else instead, maybe you’re a master at chess? Who knows!”
Hearing him snort as he laughed was the highlight of her day, her week, her entire year. Her own laugh went higher, joining him until he had to push up his glasses on to his nose. If it wasn’t for the sharp ‘shh’ that came from behind her, Lily would have worked on another way to make him laugh, entirely enamoured with his smile and the light flush of pink across his cheeks and nose.
Jolting a little, she spun around to see the head Librarian, an elderly lady sat at the front desk, scowling at her. “Lilian, this is the first time I’ve ever had to ask you this, but please be quiet. Take your friend and giggle somewhere else.” Lowering her head a little in shame, she mouthed a sorry silently at the lady. Luckily she didn’t take it to heart, smiling and shaking her head at the two of them before waving them off.
Getting to know Lily since she visited so often, the Librarian learnt that she must have not had many friends, or any given the amount of times she saw her reading and working alone. It brought warmth to her heart seeing her with someone, especially a boy similar to her age and clearly with similar interests. Chuckling softly to herself, she made sure to keep an eye on the two of them, curious to see if anything developed of it.
Motioning for Donnie to follow her, she lead him back over to her spot at the large oak tables, gesturing for him to sit at the head just across from her. Careful not to let the books drop heavily against the tabletop, she winced as she sat down, neatening her skirt out before looking over to him like a scolded puppy. “I’m so sorry about that, I’m so embarrassed...such a bad first impression….I promise I’m not a troublemaker..” she whispered, leaning in as she spoke so she was sure he could hear her.
Sitting down after she had seated herself, he waved her off with a smile, swinging his bag into the chair on the other side of himself. She was such a genuine breath of fresh air after his brothers, and their genuine trouble making. It was hard to believe she was genuinely as adorable and sweet as she was, especially in a city like New York that seemed to churn out hard people, people born in trenches and always ready for a fight. “Don’t be embarrassed, it’s been a long time since I got clucked at by a librarian, usually for arguing out loud with a book.”
Covering her mouth as she giggled, he felt himself beaming. Talking with people in general had never been his forte, let alone women, but something about her made it easy. He felt like an entirely different person sitting there with her, and yet more himself than he could remember feeling in a long time. Even with his family, he always felt like the odd man out, his sense of humor awkward and often not understood or appreciated by his brothers.
Quietly, she angled her syllabus towards him along with her notes, written neatly in small, precise cursive. She explained the current assignment requirements, occasionally smoothing her skirt as she talked. Her organization skills were impressive, and she clearly had a solid grasp on the work. To be honest, he sincerely doubted she honestly needed the help, and was likely more of an overachiever like himself, never content with “good enough” and wanting to put forth the best quality possible. He went through it with her, making sure to point out that she had much of the important information already, and flipping through the texts to show her what she still needed. She had few questions, following along readily, and the questions that she did have were clever and insightful.
“I think you’re going to be an incredible veterinarian,” he admitted once they had gotten through a large section of her work. He wasn’t even sure how much time had passed, and for once, he had no inclination to check. “You seem very empathic and you understand the work well. Are you from around here? I can’t say you’re like any native New Yorker I’ve ever met.”
Smiling sweetly at his compliment, Lily looked down at her notepad, bashfully tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear as she did. “Thank you, that means a lot…” Still adorning a rosy complexion due to his presence and encouraging nature, she felt that maybe he’d just assume she was always that pink in the cheek, given she hadn’t stopped blushing the entire time she had met him. Maybe it was just the colour of her hair making it stand out more. At his question of her origin, she rose her head and grinned happily. Shaking her head, she tamed a giggle, still aware of how much noise she was making. “No, actually, I recently moved here a few months ago from Canada. I used to live in Denmark, when I was young - my family is from there. Hence the uhm….red hair…” Rocking side to side, making her hair bounce on her shoulders a little, she mimicked his amused grin.
“My dad works for a company that’s very demanding, moves us around a lot. I had to hold off university for a while because of it, so as always, I’m playing catch up. It’s probably why I don’t have many friends either..” Laughing awkwardly, trailing it off to try and stop her smile fading but failed when she added, “..or any friends for that matter. I keep to myself a lot.” Tapping her pen against her papers, she shook her head a little after a short pause before looking up at him, forcing back on her smile. “How about you? Hailing from Italy?” Giggling, she gently poked at his arm with the capped end, hoping she hadn’t dropped the mood.
Looking down at the pen she had poked him with, he considered what she had said. How many times had his family harassed him for not having enough friends, not getting out enough? Not that he minded keeping to himself, but he just couldn’t imagine someone as bright and cheerful as herself, alone. “I’m not nearly as interesting,” he chuckled with a shrug. “New York, born and raised… raised by my adoptive father, though. My biological parents died in a car accident while I was still in utero, and he was to have been my godfather.”
“Oh my gosh,” she gasped, putting a dainty hand over her mouth in shock. She looked genuinely upset about it, and he had a brief moment of regret of being so upfront about it. He simply viewed it as a fact, having come to terms with it when he was quite young and insisted his father tell him. It hadn’t taken long for him to understand that he and his brothers, especially Raph and Mikey, were not biologically related. “I’m so sorry.”
“Please, don’t be sorry, it’s entirely okay. I was raised in a loving, nurturing environment,” he explained, pushing up his glasses. “I have three brothers, they’re all adopted as well. It’s chaotic sometimes, but that’s family, right?”
“I guess so,” she agreed, her cheeks continuing to be as pink as ever as she shuffled papers around nervously. “I think you’re probably a lot more interesting than you think you are.”
It was his turn to blush again, running his hands through his hair. He was so used to people telling him to shorten whatever he had to say, to make it “English” or simply ignoring that he even existed that the thought was foreign. It was so rarely that he genuinely connected with people, and when he did, it always seemed to be a professor or scientist across the country or even out of the country, their conversations strictly through the digital realm.
“Well,” he said slowly, leaning forward against the table. “I can’t imagine you being a loner or keeping to yourself.”
Slowly packing away her papers, tucking them neatly inside her notepad and marking pages with sticky notes in her newly acquired research books, Lily listened to him intently. Glancing over at him, she smiled, although it’s cheerful glow had faded a little.
“Unfortunately, it’s the truth. I don’t get out much, because of work but...mostly I just choose not to..” she started quietly, not so much from needing to be but more she felt a little down about it, realising how sad it must sound. “I’m not one for going out, drinking or otherwise, the only place other than here or my dorm room is a Starbucks, maybe.”
Closing up her last book after putting her pens away into her bag with the rest of her equipment, she sat neatly up right, perking up again with a bright smile. “Heh, speaking of ...let me buy you a coffee or something? As a thank you for helping me and putting up with me nattering at you for so long...and as a sorry for getting us hushed at.” Shuffling her seat backwards, she stood up, making sure all of her skirt was down and not tucked up in anyway. Shouldering her satchel, brushing her hair away from the strap before taking the full weight of it, wincing a little even when she prepared herself for it. Her mother had always told her if her hair was any longer, she’d fall over, too frail and delicate to carry her own weight sometimes. It didn’t help that Donnie dwarfed her even more.
“Oh, no no, there’s no need for that. I appreciate the offer but-...”
“Actually! I changed my mind. I’m buying you a coffee and you can’t say no.” Once he was stood up, she made sure to give him the most stern look she could, but stuck her tongue out when he looked a little taken back by her order. As his lips curved into a smile, chuckling a little, she had to drop her eyes, looking down at her feet bashfully. “I-I mean...that’s if you’re not….uhm….busy...or want to, that is…”
The sudden surge of confidence she had to tell him what she wanted to do disappeared as quickly as it appeared. He simultaneously gave her confidence and took her breath away, unable to think of a coherent sentence while also giving her all the words under the sun to speak with.
“I’d love to,” he admitted earnestly, hopelessly smiling at how incredibly adorable she was. There wasn’t a fiber in his being that would’ve been able to say no to her, even if he had wanted to. He almost felt grateful for his brothers being so annoying that they drove him from his normally hermit-like behaviors to get out of the house. “But just because I’m enjoying your company, not because I agree that you owe me any kind of thanks or apologies, because you most certainly do not.”
Nodding, she smiled up at him while she fidgeted with the strap of her bag. He wished he was quicker, more smooth like his brothers with social behaviors, especially with women, and would’ve offered to take the bag that must’ve been heavy on her tiny frame. At the same time, he didn’t want to insult her by having her take it off to hand to him, just in case. “I suppose that’s fair enough,” she answered, leading the way out of the library. “Is there a particular place you enjoy?”
Laughing as he held the front door open for her, he shook his head, squinting at the bright sunlight after the muted tones of the library. “My brothers say I’d hook myself up to an IV drip of coffee if I had my way,” he answered, stuffing his hands into the pockets of his hoodie. “And they’re probably right. I pretty much live on the stuff, I don’t tend to be very picky about where it originates.”
“I’d probably hover off the ground if I had that much,” she giggled. He found himself enamored with the way her bright, doe-like eyes sparkled in the sunshine. “There’s a nice little shop just a couple of blocks down though, they have a lovely tea selection, too.”
“I will absolutely defer to your more refined judgement, then.” He listened carefully as she explained her favorite kinds of tea for different occasions or situations as they walked, cataloging the information in his mind for later use. If there was a later use, he reminded himself, keenly aware that he ventures into being social usually didn’t last, especially not when it was women. Still, he found himself hopeful with her, she was different in so many ways, and conversation with her was surprisingly easy. Not once had he noticed her eyes glazing over with boredom or confusion, or had she expressed any desire to end the conversation as quickly as possible to “get away.”
“Here we are!” she chirped, gesturing to the cozy little shop, and he took one long stride to move ahead of her just enough to get the door, gesturing for her to walk through. She giggled, giving him a little curtsy before leading the way in, the rich aroma of coffee swirling out into the air of sidewalk after her.
GOOD LORD, I’M SO FUCKING SCARED TO POST THIS BECAUSE I KNOW IT’S SHIT. I AM SO SORRY PLEASE FORGIVE ME I STILL HOPE YOU LIKE IT! REQUESTS ARE CLOSED FOR NOW! SORRY!
----------------------------------
One week.
Seven days.
One hundred and sixty-eight hours.
And counting.
How Tom had managed that long without you was a mystery to him. Never had he ever dreamed to be away from you this long, or at all really but it was part of the job. He had to do what he had to do. He all but begged you to come with him and Harrison to Montreal but you couldn’t just leave your job indefinitely. He fully accepted and respected your decision, but that didn’t mean he didn’t miss you like all hell.
Week one of filming for ‘Chaos Walking’ had just wrapped, and he was so fucking exhausted. This was by far the hardest film he has ever shot, next to ‘The Impossible’. Tom was tired and all he wanted wanted was to curl up on the couch with you, watching Friends reruns on the telly.
He was lying in his bed after a particularly trying day of filming, you already had your nightly FaceTime session earlier but he still couldn’t sleep. He missed having you to curl up next to,.He turned over to his side and clicked open his phone, looks like he was going to have to spend some time on Instagram until he passed out from exhaustion.
It wasn’t a good enough distraction though. You were still ever present in his thoughts. Tom typed out a single text to you,
I miss you so so much, Y/N. I love you.
A succession of beeps coming from his phone diverted his attention. Tom raised the phone to his face to see your sleepy one staring back at him. Tears immediately began to flood his vision, he mentally cursed himself for losing his composure so quickly.
“Hi, my darling girl.” he rasped out. His eyes took the sight of you in through his phone screen, he cherished every detail.
You tried to stifle a yawn as you waved at him. “Hey, Tom. Is everything okay? Your text woke me up, I just wanted to see you and check in.” you said though you could barely keep your eyes open
Tom chuckled at how you were widening your eyes in an attempt to keep them focused on him. “Y-Yeah. Yeah, I’m okay. I just miss you.. Miss you a lot, Y/N.” In a matter of seconds, he broke down completely.
“God.. God, Y/N. I miss you, I miss you so much.” he cried
The sound of Tom crying completely woke you up as if someone had thrown a bucket of ice cold water all over you. Clamoring alarm bells were going off inside your head while you watched Tom’s face twist in pain, he was moving to sit up, like if he stayed down any longer he would drown in his own tears.
“Tom..” you weakly trailed off. You hoped and prayed that the right words would come to you.
“Tom, I love you. I love you so much.” was all you managed to say as you began to choke up as well
You didn’t notice Tessa climb into bed next to you. Next thing you knew, she was licking away your tears.
“Tess! Tom, look who’s come to see you.” Focusing your camera on the both of you, you watched with a heavy heart as Tom held back more tears. Tessa began to whine as well.
“Oh, my beautiful girls. I miss you both so much. I’m sorry I woke you, love. I’m just having such a rough time without you.”
“I know. I miss you too, Tom. You know you can call me any time.”
You two continued to talk into the night (morning for you), he told you all about the set and the cast while you told him about your days at work. Most of the things you told each other, you already knew. You didn't think this was your first time speaking in a week, did you? Hell no. The time you two spent apart were filled in with calls and texts, FaceTime was like a staple for your relationship.
When you opened your eyes, the first thing you saw was Tom’s sleeping face, or at least the upper half of it. You two must’ve fallen asleep at some point, which was good, Tom was always telling you how tired he was. A groan left your lips as you stretched, it was almost time for you to get ready for work.
“I’ve got to go now, Tom.” you whispered, watching him stir as he slept. “I’ll text as I always do. I love you.”
“Mmm. I love you so much, Y/N.” he mumbled sleepily in reply
His groggy deep voice made you swoon all the way from across the pond. Very very reluctantly, you ended FaceTime and got up to start your day.
--------------
It was the middle of Tom’s second week in Montreal, he felt as if he’s already been there for months. Each and everyday he’d return to their temporary home, body aching, his reprieves being your texts and calls, FaceTime, Harrison making him food, and sleep. That being said, when you missed your regular FaceTime session before Tom went to bed, it worried him. He rang you close to about thirty times with no answer.
He tried to be understanding about it. Tom knew that sooner or later your current situation would begin to take its toll on the both of you so instead of trying you again, he just sent you a text saying that you must’ve fallen asleep but it was alright, he was just going to bed, and he loved you.
Though he said he was going to bed, the lack of seeing your face and hearing your voice made it close to impossible for him to get settled. He tossed and turned the entire night, well into the wee hours of the morning.
“Oh, fuck this.” he grumbled, flinging the blankets off his tired body. It was pointless, Harrison was set to wake him up in a few minutes anyway. Fuck sleep.
He blindly made his way through his dark room, stubbing his toe on the doorframe in the process. Tom let out a hearty string of curses that would make a sailor blush, and exited his room. Harrison wasn’t up yet so he just sat on the couch, checking his phone to see if you had finally replied.
You hadn’t.
Was he seeing things? Maybe it was just the lack of sleep that was making his eyes play tricks on him. He brought both hands up to his eyes palmed them gently, God he was so fucking tired. Although it soothed him a great deal, it still didn’t change the fact that you hadn’t replied to him, or texted or called. At all.
“You’re up early.”
The sound of Harrison’s voice did nothing to distract Tom from his worried thoughts about you, he bit on his thumbnail as he stared ahead.
“Tom?” Harrison walked over to his best friend and put a hand on his shoulder. The sudden contact shocked Tom, he looked at Harrison, confused.
“Oh, hey. I didn’t see you come in.” he said distractedly, shifting in his seat. Tom continued to bite on his nail, staring ahead.
“What’s the matter?” Harrison asked, heading back to kitchen area to cook breakfast
“Y/N hasn’t been answering my texts. She missed FaceTime last night.” he stated, rubbing his tired eyes
Harrison frowned, he thought it was rather odd, that wasn’t something you usually did. He kept that thought to himself though, he knew he shouldn’t stress Tom out before an even more stressful day.
“Well, I’m sure she has a good reason. When has Y/N ever let you down?”
“Right. You’re right.” Tom nodded firmly, trying to grasp at any reassurance he could get
You were fine, you were safe, and you surely had a good reason for not responding to his attempts to contact you.
“Yeah. Yeah, everything’s fine.” he kept nodding to himself. It was unsettling.
“Yes, I’m sure they are. Now would you stop nodding? You’re freaking me out a bit here.” Harrison teased, hoping Tom’s mood would improve
After breakfast and a shower, they both went out to set. Through the course of his day, in between takes, Tom couldn’t stop himself from obsessively checking his phone to see if you resurfaced from whatever hole it is you’ve crawled into. He became more and more agitated every time he saw your conversation the same as it was.
But being a consummate professional, Tom never let his agitation show up while he was doing a scene. That was a good thing for him professionally, but emotionally? Tom was just about ready to explode. It was a good thing they wrapped early that day.
“I’m going to the fucking airport.” he said, slamming the car door and driving off like a madman
“WHAT?!” Harrison exclaimed from next to him, holding onto the handles for dear life
“I’m going to pack, then the fucking airport, then I’m going the fuck home to Y/N. Something is wrong, I fucking know it.” Tom fumed, his vision had been painted a venomous red
The duo somehow managed to get back home in one piece, Tom immediately got out of the car and slammed the door shut behind him. He didn’t even bother to wait for Harrison as he trudged up to their front door.
He all but hurled it open and went inside. Nothing but silence greeted him, it wasn’t like he was expecting something else though. But maybe he should have.
He took a step forward and felt something underneath his shoe, he looked down to see one of his trainers. How in the hell did that get there? Tom tried to think of every plausible explanation. His eyes widened in realisation. Tom ran outside, smacking into Harrison in the process.
“Jesus Christ!” Harrison exclaimed as he fell to the ground, Tom on top of him
Tom pushed off of his best friend and grabbed hold of his shoulders. “Harrison. Harrison, there is an animal in the fucking house.” he hissed
“No.. No, you’re shitting me.” Harrison shook his head, dread beginning to invade his senses. His sky blue eyes darted from Tom’s frazzled face to the open door.
“I am not. I found one of my trainers by the door, I didn’t leave it there, I swear to you.”
Tom dropped his hands from Harrison’s shoulders and ran them through his cropped hair. “We’ve got to go inside and check it out.”
“Those are the exact words of everyone who’s ever died in a horror film, Tom.”
“Well this isn’t a film, buddy. It’s real life.” Tom grabbed a nearby stick off of the ground and flipped it around. Taking a deep breath, he stalked confidently to the house
“Yeah, and a fucking stick is going to fend of a bear.” Harrison muttered under his breath, staying close behind Tom
The wannabe Hardy Boys made their way through the quiet house, they checked the kitchen, the living room, and their backyard. Nothing was there. They thought they were in the clear, until they heard something scratching on the other side of Tom’s bedroom door.
“Alright, it’s been a nice run, mate. We’ve had fun and everything, done amazing things, seen amazing places.” Harrison told him as the scratching began to intensify, the door started to rattle against its hinges
By its own volition, the door swung open and Tom closed his eyes and braced himself for impact. The intruder lunged at him, tackled him to the ground and.. Licked his face?
Harrison let out a surprised laugh. Tom took it as his cue to open his eyes. Standing on his chest, was Tessa.
“Oh my God! Tess?!” Tom exclaimed once he realised who it was. He scooped her up in his arms and gave her a big hug
“God damn I wish I'd caught that on camera.” Harrison remarked
Tom sat up, Tessa still in his arms, he felt warm hands cover his eyes a second later. The way his heart beat faster gave it away.
“Surprise!” you yelled right next to his ear
He winced at the volume but at the same time, he felt so relieved to hear the sound of your voice. Tom let Tessa go and engulfed you in his arms. The familiar scent of your perfume invaded his senses, he breathed you in until he swore the room was spinning.
Tom pulled away to press his lips against yours, his eyes were shut tightly. Afraid that if he opened them once again, you would be gone.
“I'm not going anywhere, Tom.” you whispered, like you'd read his mind. You wrapped your arms around his neck and hugged him again.
“I can't believe you called me thirty-six times. I didn't know you were a stage five clinger.” you said into the crook of his neck
Your boyfriend smiled, you couldn’t see the playful glint in his eye.
“Oh, I’ll show you a stage five clinger, darling.”
He flipped you over to the floor and latched onto you like a koala. Tom squeezed you until you could feel the air slowly leaving your lungs. You tried to laugh but Tom’s weight on you made it difficult, you hit him repeatedly. “TOM!! GET!! OFF!!”
“Tess! Get in here!” he called to Tessa, who was watching you, head tilted. But at Tom’s command, she came bounding over to you, yipping excitedly
Harrison stood by the doorway, snapping a picture of the two of you on the floor, Tom wrapped around you as you lay trapped under him, and Tessa with her tail wagging in the air. He posted it on his Instagram with the caption, “Family Reunion”
