You ever see a ship so antithetical to everything you know about characters and how they would act and you have to grit your teeth and suffer through it. Like “it’s not my cup of tea” But also I’d rather drink arsenic rather than it

"I don't reckon I owe you any favors, Mr. Door. I don't reckon anyone in the whole world owes you any favors."
YOU MAY BE RIGHT.

Now think of all the years you tried to Find someone to satisfy you I might be as crazy as you say If I'm crazy then it's true That it's all because of you And you wouldn't want me any other way
You may be right I may be crazy But it just may be a lunatic you're looking for It's too late to fight It's too late to change me You may be wrong for all I know But you may be right

I think this is an opinion that can be formed only after listening to thousands of hours of music for decades.
Who is one of the greatest song writers of the past 100 years?
Billy Joel. Undisputed.
I know there are lots of other artists who you all might fit the bill, but where Billy Joel gets them is the diversity of his music. Listen to the following songs:
Piano Man
Uptown Girl
We Didn’t Start The Fire
Lullabye (Goodnight My Angel)
You May Be Right
Just The Way You Are
I could list more classics, but I chose these because they are completely different genres. Piano Man has a strong folk rock vibe and makes me feel like I’m sitting in an old pub. Meanwhile, Uptown Girl is full on doo-wop, a solid 30 years after the genres heyday. We Didn’t Start The Fire is a solid example of late 80s/ early 90s pop rock, while Lullabye (Goodnight My Angel) is a beautiful pop ballad to his daughter. According to Wikipedia, the song was originally supposed to be in the style of a Gregorian Chant, and I can hear it if you listen to the chords chosen for the opening and think of it on a church organ instead, like in Hunchback of Notre Dame. You May Be Right is a solid rock song with touches of pop, reminiscent of the early 80s music, and Just The Way You Are is a soft rock jazz piece.
I didn’t realize that all these songs were by the same person until I was an adult. Here’s who I originally thought they were by.
Piano Man: Elton John (probably as a kid I saw Elton John performing on the piano often)
Uptown Girl: Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons
We Didn’t Start The Fire: any one of the 80s rock bands from the UK. I can’t pinpoint one
Lullabye (Goodnight My Angel): this one might have been closest to my perception of who Billy Joel as a kid
You May Be Right: I genuinely thought this song was by the Rolling Stones for a LONG time.
Just The Way You Are: Tony Bennett
And while I didn’t list it above because he didn’t write it, he’s the original performer of Make You Feel My Love, aka my favourite Adele song.
There are so many great songwriters now, but they all have a distinct style that is easily identifiable. Billy Joel jumped between genres completely with each album so effortlessly that I think many people not familiar with his music would think they are all different artists, like I did as a kid. That takes incredible music skills. He needs more love from younger generations.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

It was real
What we had
Neither of us with
That talent for friendship
But we slipped together
Slipped
Like a plug in the right socket
Electric
We did the impossible
Drank wine
Laughed and played
It was such a gift
Both of us so
Hungry and tired
Lonely
Secretly needy
Suddenly just there
Like a chunk of forever
I didn't know i had to give it back
This gift
Still no talent for friendship
And then
Without even a poof
Gone
Never before or again
Because
It was impossible
But it was real

steering wheel in one hand, while juggling an iced coffee and doing my make up (I know I know) in the other, all while Billy Joel blasts from my speakers and I rush to work is either very cathartic or very chaotic..
well,
“you may be right, I may be crazy”

Honestly the funniest thing about Jane's villain arc is, even if you don't think she was done dirty and think that this was a natural progression, it still sucks because holy shit is Jane a bad villain. Like I get that Jane was given the heel turn because most people thought she was boring so this spices her up, but good lord having a generic girlboss was not the way to do it. Double so because she already had a villian arc, and crockertier was just as fucking boring. You failed at this TWICE.

For the questions for fic writers: 8, 9, 43?
8. What song would make a great fic (to either write or read)?
One that I’m still thinking about how to turn into a Han/Leia fic is Beautiful Stranger” by Halsey. It’s on my WIPs list even though I haven’t written a word of it yet, but I can picture Han and Leia dancing together, and the way that song depicts people who are struggling to trust and let go and knowing it’s “finally, finally, finally safe…for me to fall.”
Also, I was in the supermarket the other day and Billy Joel’s “You May Be Right” came on the speakers, and I was like “how is that not a fic?” It feels like a perfect song for a scenario where Han is kind of wild and is just right for shaking Leia out of the dark place she’s stuck in after Alderaan’s destruction and her interrogation (and the ongoing war in general).
9. How do you find new fic to read?
Tumblr is probably the most common way; I follow several of my favorite Han/Leia authors on Tumblr, so I usually see when they’ve posted something new, @hanleiaarchive also has links to a lot of Han/Leia fics, and periodically I will go searching through the #leiaorgana, #hansolo, #han x leia or #hanleia tags on Tumblr as well. Many of the folks I follow will periodically recommend some fics they’ve enjoyed, and those recs are also really helpful and great. (I sometimes do fic recs myself; those are tagged #fic rec or #fic recs on my Tumblr.)
I also periodically search through the Han Solo/Leia Organa tag on Archive Of Our Own (AO3), using the filters to exclude other ships I’m not interested in or characters I don’t want to see, and that’s often a good way to discover authors who might not be super active on Tumblr (or may not be on Tumblr at all).
43. If you take/write prompts: what’s your favorite prompt fic that you’ve written?
I have written a number of prompt fics, particularly from events like the old Scoundress Saturdays or HanLeia Week, as well as periodically inviting prompts from a prompt list or two on Tumblr. I think my favorite was from when I was doing an ask meme that was “I wish you would write a fic where….” Someone said, “I wish you would write a fic where Leia runs away and Han finds her in the least expected place,” and that prompt led to Like Home (which is still one of my favorites).
Thank you for the ask!
