When he hears the players laughing that “doc needs a doc” he’s immediately giving them a drill that’ll keep them busy long enough for him to rush inside. The moment he’s standing in your doorway, you wave off his concern with a weary smile and a sweet, “No biggie. Just under the weather.”

“Well, how’s my medic meant t’work if she’s cooped up inside under a blanket?” Billy frowns, closing the door behind him. And you immediately think he’s saying you aren’t doing your job, so you rush to tell him you’re fine, you’ll be out in a second, and he shakes his head. “Doc, if you ain’t feelin’ good, go on home. Sleep this off.” Now you’re really protesting.

Billy just sighs heavily as you promise you don’t need to leave the campus. “Please. It’ll give me some peace of mind.” Before you speak again he’s lifting an empty mug off your desk to look. A drained tea bag remains in the cup, and he’s making to leave and calling over his shoulder, “I’ll get ya a fill up n’ then you go on t’bed, got me? I know that chair ain’t comfy.”

He sits with you in your office as you finish the new cup of tea, the excessive honey (Billy knew you wanted it sweet, just assumed the more the better) soothing your throat. It’s not much you talk about, nothing too deep, but when he walks you to the parking lot and you clasp a hand on his arm, cooing how good of a man he was, how grateful you were— maybe it’s then that Billy realizes he’s whipped.
