TransID “Transitioning”

First, I feel I need to clarify my stance on TransIDs- I don’t think they’re queer, or at least inherently so. Most people who use TransIDs just so happen to BE queer.

When someone challenges a TransID, it isn’t exactly homophobic or transphobic or queerphobic- it’s just mean. It doesn’t hurt any less but it isn’t a hatecrime. People who don’t support TransIDs aren’t bigots, just closed minded. It CAN be [x]phobically charged, but more often than not, it’s just someone who doesn’t get it, or doesn’t like it. It’s still someone disrespecting how you view yourself, and it’s not kind at all.

Now TransID transitioning is something very complex. I myself am actually against the idea, solely because of the wording. While comparable to being Transgender, it comes down to parts of identity that *aren’t* gender, that *can’t* be gender to some people.

I don’t really think you can transition from TransBlackHair to CisBlackHair. You can dye your hair black to affirm it, but it’s just not possible to make it grow in the same. I don’t think you can go from TransHarmed to CisHarmed. You can get hurt, but at the end of the day, that’s just it. You’re not “cis” harmed, you weren’t *born* harmed, you’re just. Harmed. You can affirm being TransHarmed but if you weren’t… well, born harmed, you can’t really be CisHarmed, even if you get hurt over and over later in life.

The Trans- and Cis- labels confuse me quite a bit, though it’s in part to autism and being Anti-TransID for a while. I don’t think you can ever really transition from a TransID to a CisID. And I don’t think transition is the right word for TransID. Affirming a TransID is what I prefer.

Affirming a TransID is like confirmation and comfort to how you see yourself. This is who you are and you’re solidifying that. Transition feels very material, set in stone, and often implicates physical and social changes. Transitioning to a TransID just makes it a continued TransID. Affirming a TransID is taking care of it.

TDLR; Being rude to someone for their TransIDs isn’t bigoted, it’s just mean. You cannot go from TransID to CisID and I think the word transition is inappropriate for these changes. I prefer the word affirming myself.
