Hi lew, I hope you've been enjoying the unfurling of spring ! kind of connected to your past answered ask, how do you put yourself out there ? You don't come across as someone who deals with social anxiety or gives social interaction too much unnecessary thought before initiation, but as someone who struggles to put myself out there and wants to, how do you go about it ? do you sign up for new clubs, go out to social spaces and strike up random conversation (how does one strike up random conversation....). You seem to have such a good hold on socialising and I'm curious how you manoeuvre it, even if it won't work for me. Take care of yourself and enjoy the rest of your year !

my main tip is this: don't start with approaching people, if that's something you struggle with, but with being approachable. the hard ends of the spectrum, the extroverted and the lonely, are just waiting for your invitation, and are both incredibly easy to be around as they do the talking. smiling at strangers in a park or in a train is sometimes a nice gesture and sometimes the start to an incredible conversation. a sympathetic face or a good-natured eye-roll might lead to a polite remark to feel out your willingness to engage. the worst that can happen is that they look away. and that's nothing bad at all.

the truth is this: most people are like you. yearning for connection but unsure of how to go about it. my friends and i call this the open arm policy: you have to let the world in. that does not always mean that you have to actively approach anyone, especially if that causes you a lot of distress. but be open to your environment. react to the world and the strangers around you. recognize that you occupy the same space, and treat them as part of the same team, even if just in your head at the beginning. its a lost art, but its worth trying. that's where human connection begins

ive been moved into college for like two weeks and i keep fluctuating between ‘im adjusted to this now’ and ‘i hate this i wanna go home everyone here sucks’ but such is the life i suppose . anyways my roommate of one and a half weeks dropped out literally like almost immediately so now i have a single ( ? ) i guess . it’s a little nice to be able to do whatever i want but the fact her side of the room is completely empty really makes you realize how your cinder block dorm room looks very prison cell adjacent

I'm practicing self care and one of the ways I'm doing it is getting back into writing. I'm afraid of ever sharing my stories though as I don't handle criticism that well. That being said I'm gonna write a self-insert story about me dying and going to hell in the afterlife and the devil grants me my dying wish which is to rule over the underworld as his wife. you can still date when you get old. you can still fuck. you can still learn new skills, be fashionable, be competitive. you can still gossip, you can still travel, you can still read. you can still transition. you can still come out.

young doesn't mean peaked. you're inexperienced in your 20s! you're still learning and practicing! you're developing social skills and muscle memory that will last decades!
