#you ever had to hold a toddler who absolutely did not want to be held?

Everyone who is against child leashes has clearly never had to be the one to supervise and ensure the survival of a child between the ages of 2 to 6. They have no impulse control, can run deceptively fast for having such short legs, are small enough to quickly weave past obstacles, and don't have any concept of their own mortality or danger. The only thing that kept my little brother alive for like 4 years of his life was his backpack leash because he wouldn't hesitate to run into oncoming traffic because there was a leaf in the road he wanted to see.
#and dont give me any of that “well just carry them” bullshit#you ever had to hold a toddler who absolutely did not want to be held?#theyll gouge your fucking eyes out#this was prompted by a friend who is the youngest in their family complaining about seeing a kid on a leash#and as the oldest in my family trust me there is a good reason that child is leashed#not tf#my ramblings

girl dad — mv.1
pairing: dad!max verstappen x mom!reader
word count: 2.5k
warnings: mentions of pregnancy, obvs mentions of babies and kids, fluff, the briefest flash of angst and nostalgia hi loves! so this is the result of the absolute brainrot me and @verstappen-cult got stuck in yesterday discussing how max is such a girl dad. I actually really like this one so I hope you like it too! as always please leave any feedback, I always love reading the tags to find out how I can improve my work and what you want to see more of! happy reading! mimi 🤍
Max groaned softly as a heavy weight suddenly landed on his chest. He opened his eyes and saw a perfect reflection of them staring back at him. He couldn’t stop the smile spreading across his face as his arms wrapped around his daughter and he cuddled her close to him, “Good morning little flower,” his voice was gentle and low so as to not wake you up, “did you have exciting dreams last night?” His hand smoothed over Esmee’s hair as she nodded, arm wrapping round her soft plush bunny even tighter as she curled up on his chest. “Well I’m glad to hear that…” They were both still and silent for a moment and Max thought she may have even drifted back off, until she popped up, sitting on his tummy, her hand bringing her bunny’s ear up to her face to gently rub it across her cheek in a soothing motion. Max’s heart clenched as he stared at his baby girl, where was the time going? Just yesterday it seemed like she was still a tiny newborn that he cradled so carefully yet awkwardly.
“Mama sleep?” The two year old pointed to you lying next to him, your head resting against his shoulder as your chest rose and fell steadily. Max nodded and over exaggerated placing a finger to his lips in a ‘shh’ motion. The toddler giggled, a sweet sound that made Max smile. Max looked at the clock that sat on his bedside table and noticed how early it was and how dark it still was outside, “It’s so early flower! The sun is still sleeping.” Esmee pouted in that sweet funny way only toddlers can and pointed to her tummy, “Hungry papa!” Max made a noise of understanding and scooped her up in his arms, standing and silently padding across the room to leave you sleep. He carried her through the hallways of your family home in Monaco and he relished in the way Esmee snuggled into his neck, finding comfort and warmth in the way he felt each of her short little breaths against his neck. He pressed a kiss to the side of her head and slowed his pace down a little, enjoying the time he had. It was quiet, barely five in the morning, the sun only just beginning to creep up in the sky. The traffic was still light outside, just the hiss of the garbage truck and the occasional siren in the distance. He softly strolled down the hallway, hand rubbing and down Esmee’s back in the way he’d done ever since the first time he held her.
As he got to the kitchen, he placed Esmee down in her chair, not a baby high chair anymore but taller than the rest of your chairs to accommodate her short body. She let out a whine at losing his body heat and attention and he turned back to see her holding her arms out to him, begging to be picked back up. ‘Like mother like daughter’ Max thought, knowing full well he was unable to say no to either of you. He picked her up and placed her over one arm, tickling her tummy with his free hand when her gleeful giggle sounded around the room knowing she’d gotten her own way. Max knew that anyone who looked at him for just a few seconds would see that he was completely wrapped around his daughter’s tiny finger. Just as Mama and Papa were her whole world, she was theirs.
“What should we have for breakfast Es hm?” Max opened the fridge and looked at the contents, thinking what he could make for all of you, “should we make some for Mama too?” Esmee nodded, excited as Max mentions you. “Panpan papa!” Max laughed as she did her best to say the word ‘pancake’, “Okay then flower, pancakes it is!” Max had watched you make them so many times he was pretty confident in the recipe, knowing it would be in your recipe book on the island if he really needed guidance. Esmee clapped her hands and Max sat her on the counter next to where he was standing, “You want to help?” She nodded and a serious expression took over her face, Max smiled and kissed her forehead before he gathered the ingredients he needed from various cupboards and the fridge. “Okay then flower, let’s do this!” Max pulled the measuring cups from the drawer in front of him and held the correct one out to Esmee. She took it, her pudgy little legs kicking in excitement as her face lit up in glee. Max held out the bag of flour and wrapped his hand around hers to help her dig the right amount out of the bag. He let her tip it into the bowl on her own, her tongue poking out in concentration. Once she was finished, she beamed up at him and he gave a cheer, encouraging her for her efforts, “Good job flower!” She practically bounced on the counter, excited to be making pancakes with her Papa and for a moment Max almost wished you were awake to take a picture of this moment, so that even when he was old and his memory started fading, he would still be able to remember.
He pulled himself back to the present, not wanting to miss looking at her for a second. He was unable to help the way yet another fond smile creeps across his face as he watched her gasp as she spilt some of the sugar on the counter top but he was quick to reassure her, “It’s okay flower! Mess is okay sometimes.” Her worried expression fell and she was back to staring at the bowl intently as she added the next ingredient. Max handed Esmee an egg, “You’ve done this bit with Mama before, haven’t you flower?” Esmee nodded but still looked at him and held the egg back out to him, “Papa help please?” He leaned down to rub his nose against hers and she giggled trying to push his face away, “Papa tickles!” Max relented and placed his hands over hers to gently tap the egg against the counter and add it to the bowl. He disposed of the shell before helping Esmee lift the milk carton to tip it into the bowl. When they’d added all the ingredients, Max grabbed a whisk and turns to the toddler, “Should Papa do this part?” Esmee nods, “Papa strong!” “Mhmm, Papa is suuuuper strong!” Esmee shrieked with delight as Max threw her into the air once to prove his point before placing her back down, hand ruffling her hair before he began to mix the ingredients together.
Esmee grabbed her bunny and Max gave a fond smile, remembering how it was one of the first things you’d picked out together when you were expecting her. Max allowed himself to reminisce as he remembered how he had been so desperate to have a son, he’d been so sure Esmee would be a boy. He had even told you that he hoped it wasn’t a girl, a point you hadn’t taken too kindly to and had quickly shut down. Max could still remember the conversation like it was yesterday… “Max you cannot be serious.” Your hands were planted firmly on your hips as you shot a cold glare at him and he cowered ever so slightly, “Schat I just meant that-” “No no, Max. I understood what you meant perfectly.” Max was silent, knowing he had no defence against you, “You want a boy to carry on the Verstappen name? You think a daughter can’t go into Formula One? You think a daughter won’t do great things and make you proud just because she’s a woman? What about me? Do you think less of me because I’m a woman?” Max sighed as your ranting stopped.
“I’m worried about what the world of F1 would do to her…” You pulled back, having never heard him speak so quietly or softly before, he sank down onto the couch, “You know how horrible it can be…” You nodded understandingly, “I do, yes…” “Then you know what kind of things she will have to face.” You took a seat next to him and rubbed his back soothingly, “But she will have you to have her back and protect her from as much of it as you can…” You did your best to calm his mind and he took a deep breath, “I know schat… but also… I don’t know how to be a girl dad! I don’t know how to do hair or how to play with barbies or how to teach her about…” his voice quietened, “periods…” You couldn’t help the way a laugh left you and Max whined at you, “Stop laughing! I’m serious!”
You planted a kiss against his cheek and sat back against the couch, inviting him to lay his head in your lap near your tummy, something that had become your new routine every evening. Max plopped down and your hand immediately started playing with his hair as he rested one hand on your bump. “I know it’s scary… but you have plenty of time to learn as you go! You’re bound to make mistakes love, we both are… she’ll teach you how she wants to play with you and hey, maybe she’ll be into cars more than barbies!” Max kissed your bump and smiled, “And I think you should probably leave the period talk to me…” He laughed heartily and nodded before turning to your bump once more, “Hi baby… It’s me… your Papa… W-we don’t know what you are yet,” He looked up at you and you nodded at him reassuringly, “but whether you turn out to be a boy or girl we’ll love you so so much. We already love you so much.” You hand continued through his hair as his eyes closed, “You’re going to love being a girl dad…” One eye cracked open as he stared at you, “You sound sure it’s a girl?” “Call it pregnant woman intuition…”
“Mama!” A call of your name and Esmee’s hand patting his arm pulled him from his memories and he turned to see you watching in the doorway, the most peaceful and loving expression on your face, you crossed the kitchen having been caught and swept your toddler up in your arms, blowing raspberries on her tummy and feeling your heart squeeze at her little giggles, “Good morning flower!” You sat her up in your arms and her little hands held your face as she gave you a sloppy kiss on the cheek, you laughed and walked back to the counter, gently placing her back down, “What are you doing with Papa hmm?” Esmee pointed at the bowl with wide eyes, “Panpan Mama!” You gasped and widened your own eyes, mimicking her excitement, “You’re making pancakes? Mama’s favourite?” Esmee nodded and her little legs started kicking again. You turned to Max and placed your chin on his shoulder, “Good morning handsome.” he turned his head to kiss your forehead, “Good morning schat.” He put the whisk down and turned to pull you into his arms, “What time did she wake up?” You pulled away from him and headed to the fridge to get some milk for her sippy cup, “Around five…” Max winced and you smiled, “Sorry I stayed asleep,” Max waved your apology away, “Don’t apologise, you need the sleep schatje.”
His eyes fell to the slight swell of your stomach and thanked every star above that he was lucky enough to have a beautiful wife, a sweet toddler and one more on the way. You bustled around the kitchen, tidying here and there as Max started cooking breakfast. You crossed back to Esmee to give her her sippy cup and she patted your tummy gently as you stood in front of her, “A’morning baby!” You felt a small flutter in your tummy and you booped her nose, “Baby says ‘good morning Esmee!’”
Max felt a huge smile fill his face as he took in the interaction next to him, he turned to you, crossing his arms as he waited for the next pancake to cook before he flipped it over, “You know… I really won’t mind if this one is a girl too…” You looked at him from where you stood and raised one eyebrow with a smirk, “Oh no?” Max let out a breath of laughter, flippin the pancake in the pan, “Yeah yeah, go ahead and laugh…” You shook your head, “Told you you’d love being a girl dad…” Max tipped the cooked pancake on the plate, turned the stove off and crossed the kitchen to wrap his arms around you from behind, resting his chin on your shoulder so he could watch Esmee tucking into her pancakes with all the vigour a hungry two year old could muster, his voice was quiet, “And what’s your pregnant woman's intuition saying about this one then hmm?” he kissed your neck softly and your head tipped back with a happy hum, “Max Emilian Verstappen, you are destined to be a girl dad…” He laughed and kissed your neck once more.

And five months later when Anneleise is born, Max stares at her in awe with tears in his eyes as this tiny precious bundle is carefully placed into his arms, “Hi baby girl, I’m your Papa…” Her only response is a big yawn for such a small person and an even bigger stretch as she nestles into his chest, recognising his voice. He isn’t sure why you’re suddenly chuckling to yourself but when he looks up, you’ve got tears in your own eyes as you film him sitting in the hospital chair doing skin to skin with your new daughter. It’s only then that he realises he’s crying. He can’t even find it in himself to be embarrassed, instead, looking back down at Anneleise and softly tracing her tiny features. You watch on and smile, noting how he’s much more assured in how he holds this baby, how he talks to her and you know that just like when Esmee was born, he is instantly wrapped around her finger. You know that just like the promises he made about protecting Esmee and always being there for her, ring true for this daughter as well. You know you’re looking at a man who will attend tea parties, drive his girls to the karting track and to ballet lessons, will do his best to braid their hair, will sing disney songs in the car and paint their nails to the best of his abilities. You know that when your girls get older he will buy them ice cream after a breakup, teach them how to drive, help them revise for exams, support them in their dreams and cry when he watches them get married. Because forever and always, Max is a girl dad. And later on when Max watches the video you had filmed earlier - and every time after that - he hears your voice, making him smile,
“Max Verstappen, you are such a girl dad.”

pairings: dad!jeonghan x gn!reader
genre: FLUFFY FLUFF FLUFF :((
warnings: none... you might lowkey go through baby fever :)
word count: 0.8k
synopsis: jeonghan would do literally anything to stop his baby from crying, even if it included being dolled up.
::note: WELL- yes ik now those jewels on jeonghan hair are indeed stickers and not hairclips but YK WHERE I WAS GOING WITH THIS. also hello strangers :). it's been a fat minute since I have actually written something down so if this seems a little dry... just know I haven't written anything since august 🧍🏾♀️but i do hope you enjoy this absolute brain rot I wrote last night at 2 in the morning 😍
network(s): @kflixnet
If there was one thing Jeonghan absolutely despised, with his whole entire being, it would be seeing someone who he holds, oh so dearly to his heart, cry.
He knows crying is a trigger for intense emotion, don't get him wrong, he knows very well it was common with toddlers. Including his. But that does not eliminate the huge tear he feels in his chest when the salty crystalline drops roll down his wife or his daughter's cheeks.
And he would do about everything (except cook the pot roast dinner that you LOVE that takes almost 5 hours to make and Jeonghan could not, for the life of him, stand on his two increasingly aging feet for more than 2), to make his loved ones stop crying. Even if that included doing something he thought he would not fit..
"Almost done, darling?" Jeonghan asked softly, careful not to make the tire of his voice get the best of his tone.
It was 2 AM, and his daughter, Yoon, had a rude awakening with cold sweat and vivid memories of a nightmare that she did not want have the guts to relive with her father. Which the father could understand, reliving a nightmare is not fun at all and he did not want to force that scenario onto his precious girl.
"Nu-uh," She clipped another hair clip onto Jeonghan long hair, humming in approval watching her masterpiece come to life in front of her eyes. "You said I can put a lot, daddy!" She pouted, hands flowing through the overload of bows: baby pinks, baby blues, even ones with sparkles and stars dazzled upon the long strands of freshly washed hair. Messy? Yes. Did Jeonghan care? Just a little tiny bit. "I have to make you really, really, really, pretty!"
"I did say that, did I?" Jeonghan said that more to himself, his words playing back on him tremendously. His eyes were drooping, fighting back the wondrous dreamland he was in before he was awoken by a frightened 4 year old. As much as his body wanted to shut down, his mind was stuck on one thing and one thing only.
Well maybe 2.
How long will it take to take these hairclips out and how is his miniature him doing?
"Mhm!" She clipped glittery pink hairclip on a randomly selected portion of her father's hair. "But at least daddy will look extra, extra pretty!"
Jeonghan butt was staring to numb, sitting on the carpeted floor of his daughter's room criss-crossed and Yoon standing up behind him with the next 2 hairclips awaiting their home on his head. But his heart filled rapidly, an intense feeling he has always had at moments like these. Ever since Yoon was born, this feeling was almost... unexplainable. Too immense to be just happiness and too extreme to be just love. It could be a mix of both but those 2 words are just not enough. No words could ever be.
Oh, he is down bad...
The smile that stretched upon his poorly chapped lips was one worth describing though; a smile that held so much value, love, adoration, did he think love?
"One more, daddy!" Yoon announced enthusiastically, a pretty baby blue butterfly, clipped on a strand near the front of Jeonghan head. A small giggle was heard as the little girl admired her work, grabbing ahold of the mirror and giving it to her pretty caregiver. "Is it pretty?"
Jeonghan took the mirror, its weight light but enough to slightly tilt his hand a bit. This motion was able to show the awaiting face of his daughter, who too stared into the mirror and tried to read her father's face. But he obviously had his answer.
But he still pretended to contemplate, his pointer finger tapping his chin in wonder. "It's not pretty,"
That cute pout adorned her lips again, her fragile heart clenching painfully. "You... don't like it? I thought–"
"It's beautiful, baby," Jeonghan looked behind him, and nothing, absolutely nothing, could match the cuteness of seeing his other half, his small angel, puffy cheeks bunch with joy. A smile that could kill many, Jeonghan being one of millions. Billions.
"Yay!" The excitement was barely contained in her small body, slightly bouncing in her place she stood in for almost 30 minutes before her stubby arms wrapped around the neck of her father. "Do you think uncles will be jealous?"
"Very," Jeonghan stared back in the mirror, his smiling bundle of joy warming his heart to the greatest. "Very, very jealous."
A kiss was planted on his cheek, and now he was conflicted about what his members will actually be jealous about.
His marvelous creation on his head, hairclips and bows that were placed in no particular pattern, or the creator, that shined her crooked teeth and eyes shining just as bright as she went back to slightly messing with the butterfly hairclip that hung just barely in his peripheral.
Ok, definitely the creator.
did you enjoy your order?
if you did, please reblog, like, (pls) comment, all of that jazz :>
have a good day, sweets ^^

No bc george would be soooooo insanely protective over his baby girl, please do a story about george being sooo protective over his little baby girl ❤️❤️
oh, absolutely!
george adores her.
and he never thought he'd love anyone as much as he loved yn... until his little girl came into the world, with a healthy set of lungs on her, in the early hours of a friday morning. he felt his heart double in size at the sight of his girlfriend holding their newborn baby, in a hospital bed on the midwifery floor of a hospital located in just outside of the centre of london, and it was a sight he never wanted to forget.
from the moment they brought her home, snoozing in her carseat and tucked beneath a blanket with her name stitched into the corner, he was careful with everything he did; from the way he held her, to the way he laid her to sleep in her cot, to the way he picked her up, to the way he fed her. he kept a watchful eye on everyone that held her to make sure they held her correctly, informing them when he wasn't happy with how her head wasn't being supported correctly or how they were being too loud around her, and he was always very weary about those wanting to get a peek at her when they were out in the city of london... he wanted to keep her safe, wanted her to be okay, and his dad instincts were in full swing as soon as they were allowed home with her.
so when she got to the age where she was walking and, just about, talking... he was even more watchful than ever. especially when her favourite people were over.
for her second birthday, they threw her a mini birthday party in their back garden. with food, drinks and enough toys and games to keep everyone entertained and happy, and the weather managed to hold out for them, making it the most perfect day to celebrate.
"please don't throw her around like last time," george warns arthur as he stood there with his hands held up in surrender, "and don't claim you can't remember a thing. she had a big egg on her head for over a week."
"that wasn't strictly my fault," arthur insists and george rolls his eyes, "it wasn't! honest."
"george, leave him alone, for goodness sake. i'm sure he's still a bit traumatised by what happened," yn states, rounding the corner with their little girl on her hip and watching as her face lit up from where arthur was standing in the entryway of their home, "who's that, sweet girl? is that uncle television?"
"i really need a new nickname," arthur says, reaching forward and taking the toddler from her mother's hip which allowed yn the chance to move around much more easily, taking the extra weight from her side, "hello, mini clarkey."
"everyone's already here, in the garden, grab a chair from the dining room because we don't have enough out there," george closes the door as the three of them make their way through the house, aromas of meat cooking as well as spices and the smell of a barbecue filling the air, "don't go mucking around on the bouncy castle with her, too. yn insisted we had it for her birthday but i'm not so sure."
"a bouncy castle? that's a nightmare waiting to happen with us lot in the garden," arthur cackles and yn smirks in his direction, "get a few drinks in us and we'll be having more fun than the birthday girl."
george disappears into the garden, leaving yn and arthur standing in the kitchen, the toddler on his hip playing with the collar of his shirt as she wriggled on his hip.
"just ignore him, he's just being protective over her. another year has flown by."
"i'm not called funcle for nothing," arthur laughs and digs his fingers into the little girl's side, laughing when she giggled back at him, "shall we go play in the garden?"
"food will be ready soon, don't wear her out too much otherwise she'll fall asleep in her dinner."
"like father, like daughter," arthur jokes and yn snickers at him, "if you need help, give me a shout." xx

What If: Gyutaro Edition
DISCLAIMER: THIS WORK IS IN ABSOLUTELY NO WAY CANNON TO DEMON BRIDE AND IS NOT AN ENDING. IT IS A WHAT IF IDEA THAT I THOUGHT WOULD BE FUN TO WRITE. PLEASE KEEP THAT IN MIND GOING FORWARD.
Warnings: Douma IS his own warning. Possibly some innuendos.
If you get the references for Gyu's kiddos you get a cookie.
************************************
How did his life come to this again? He wasn't exactly sure himself...
He certainly wasn't expecting to be sitting here cradling such a small life in his arms. A small perfectly wrapped up combination of blue blankets. A small head nestled outside of them. The small defenseless thing completely asleep to the cruelties of the cold world. Little breaths taken as he knew nothing but slumber despite the messy curls of green locks threatening to accidentally get sucked into the open mouth. A small innocence in the chaos of the man holding him-
"Ni,Ni! Gyutaro, you're not balancing his head up right." A blue nailed hand reached over to push his elbow up higher cradling the infant's head. "Here. You're supposed to hold a baby's head leveled with or higher than their feet. Try this." He let go and rainbow eyes smiled happily at the slightly scared man in front of him. "There you go! I knew you could do it!"
"How do you even know so much about holding babies?" Sickly yellow eyes blinked at the more colorful ones.
"I hold them all the time to bless the newborns and welcome them to the compound."
He didn't question that but the yellow eyes turned to the other infant Douma held in his arms. A mirror image of the son he held only his daughter had a black splotach pattern across her cheek. His scared him at first that one of his offspring had been born with such a marking but found comfort in that her only marking looked so much like a flower unlike the ones that lined out his own body. They were beautiful. Just as he had hoped they would be. Relief flooded him, but with newborns it always was very stressful to handle. Twins were even more of a stress. He was grateful for the constant helping hand of the more experienced Upper Moon.
"Scary Dad!".
Both men's heads turned to a familiar sight. Ah. The white haired boy. Rui walked in ignoring the obvious presence of Douma in favor of walking right up to the skinnier upper moon. His pale hand holding the hand of his one year old brother and technically Gyutaro's firstborn son. The toddler toddled along being led by the eleven year and stopped when Rui did as his older adopted brother looked at Gyutaro.
"Douma and I want to go outside and play. May we?," the spider child asked him.
Douma's smile got incredibly wider from right across from Gyutaro and Rui frowned. Yeah...In hindsight maybe it wasn't a good idea to name his firstborn after someone his eldest disliked but at the time he thought it was a good idea. Naming him after someone who practically raised him and Daki and got them so far in life...Douma was never going to let him live it down however. Always bragging about being 'Grandpa Douma.' The toddler next to him only blinked up with big blue eyes and unruly black hair covering his face.
"No...I'm exhausted trying to watch all of you." Rui pouted and Douma looked at his older brother... before mimicking his pout. He could call it cute if he wasn't so busy trying to watch four kids under the age of twelve. "You heard me. Is Daki back yet?"
His sister had INSISTED on giving Y/n a girls' night out saying that 'she needed a break from mother duties for a bit' and 'he could use a day bonding with his kids.' No way he was ready to handle watching four kids with three being a toddler and two infants yet. Thank the gods Douma was always willing to help him with anything he needed.
In his own words saying, "If you ever need or want any help, just know that you can come to me. I've dealt with many children in my compound and there's many other parents and midwives that would be more than welcome to help teach you."
He definitely has taken up his old mentor's offers of help more than once even if Y/n didn't Always like him spontaneously dropping by Upper Moon Two's domain for surprise visits. But she relented seeing how much he was still struggling with the life of being a new dad.
"Then can I hold Ume or Yushiro?" He held up his hands towards him and the infant he held with newfound awe. "I barely get to hold them anymore."
He sighed. "Fine but sit down and do it. And be careful!"
"I'm always careful!"
Despite him raising a brow he rolled his eyes and relented, gently sliding Yushiro out of his hold and into the awestruck arms of Rui who perfectly cradled him from hours of practice by his mother and plopped himself down right there in front of them. A big smile on his pale features. Hm..Well he'd admit the kid was a pretty good big brother. Douma followed Rui's motions like before and also mimicked him plopping down only to tumble over on accident and then giggle at his mishap like any happy one year old would. Despite himself the actions of the children made him huff and smile the slightest bit-
"Uh oh. Did someone wake up from her nap?," Douma's voice cooed and it made him look over. In his distraction his daughter had woken up and up on seeing that it wasn't her father, mother, or older brother holding her had started to kick up a fuss in Douma's arms. Whining and moving her limbs under the blankets. "Aw. Someone's cranky. Looks like someone wants Daddy."
"Wait. What?"
He didn't even get a chance to say anything else before the smiling blonde was already hoisting the fussing girl out of his arms and plopping her right into a slightly panicked Gyutaro's whom practically froze when the squirming infant was suddenly in his hold. Ume continued to move around making whined of protests before looking back up and pausing meeting his usual terrifying face. She slowly paused seeing him and both just stared at one another for a long moment before the derpy chubby face gave a lopsided smile at him followed by a giggle. Something warm swelled up in his chest and she was held closer to himself.
"Do you need help there?"
".....No." He smiled. For once in a very long time in his long, hard life. A sense of domestic normalcy and pride only he could have. "I'm fine."

A review of The Dead Don't Die, because fuck this movie.
I can't figure out why in the world this is labeled as a comedy when the only funny thing about it is how awful it is.
Just to preface if you personally liked this film that's perfectly fine. But I have more than many gripes about it and I'm gonna talk about them now.
First off who on earth greenlit this? I consider myself a fan of Adam Driver and Bill Murray but if this was the first movie I ever saw them in I'd never want to see them in anything else ever again.
It was painstakingly slow-paced and lingered on scenes like a toddler waiting for you to stop doing the dishes so you could watch them do a Fortnite default dance. It demands your full attention without ever making any effort to earn it. It held itself like an instant classic without understanding what makes a film a classic, or even remotely good, to begin with.
My number one gripe is the fourth wall breaking. Adam Driver's character (I say the names of the actors because I couldn't be bothered to remember these extremely unmemorable characters names) apparently knows he's in a movie the entire time, keeps saying "this is gonna end badly" only to finally reveal at the end that he knows how it ends because he's "read the script."
Fourth wall breaking can work perfectly fine, in a comedy, of which this is not.
I don't know what this is. I don't even think this movie knows what it is.
My second gripe is the immense amount of characters we're introduced to who never pay off in any which way. Their introductions aren't funny or memorable or important whatsoever. They feel like they are merely there to add time to the movie.
You can cut out about 50% of this entire movie and you won't be missing a single thing. None of the characters except for Adam and Bill's ever hold any weight. For whatever reason Tilda Swinton is a sword-wielding Scottish mortician alien, who again, holds absolutely no weight to the plot. You can cut her out entirely and it wouldn't change a single thing about this movie. You could cut out Selena Gomez as the "cute hipster" entirely and it wouldn't change a single thing about this movie. You could cut out Steve "I'm the racist one" Buschemi and it wouldn't change a single thing about this movie.
Nobody in this movie matters. Nobody in this movie holds any weight. The plot goes nowhere, the protagonists -if you can even call them that- die at the end, nobody lives happily ever after, and according to the hermit in the woods, we "were all already zombies anyway."
There was this brief completely thrown away scene where the zombies were all shown walking around with smart phones and I wanted to throw my TV out the window after seeing it. It was such a heavy fisted nothing-burger of a scene with the exclusive goal of telling the audience they're like zombies if they use smartphones. Is it a joke? Is it societal commentary? Is it a mind bogglingly stupid scene that serves no purpose? The answer is up to you.
I hated this movie so much it's ridiculous. The fact that excellent scripts get passed up day after day after day because they're written by nobodies with no network or connections, yet garbage like this gets funded and filmed, is an absolute cinematic crime.
The only way I can suggest watching this is to do it with a buddy or two who will take the piss out of it with you. My husband and I did so and the only laughs we had were in making fun of how awful this movie was.
Rant over. Goodnight.

Hellcheer headcanon:
Eddie comes back home to Hawkins for Christmas after being on tour for 3 years.
While Corroded Coffin gained more and more popularity and they made so much money that Eddie could afford to buy his uncle a nice house in the fancy area of Hawkins, (after quite a bit of protesting from Wayne because he wants Eddie to spend his money on other things)
Life hadn't been exactly kind or generous to Chrissy.
She eventually managed to move into her own apartment, away from her toxic mother. She had 2 jobs just to get by and she didn't have much time for friendships or relationships.
But when she met Nancy at the grocery store the other day she'd invited her to the Christmas party she and Jonathan held at their place every year. She'd named a couple of people who'd be there that she might know: Robin, Steve, Nancy's brother Mike and his girlfriend El, Dustin, Max and Lucas, (she remembered him being on the Basketball team) ...and Eddie.
The main reason Chrissy had agreed to come to the party in the first place was seeing Eddie again but now, sitting in the dark, in her parked car in front of Nancy's and Jonathan's home, she felt like a creep.
She got out of the car and tried to look into one of the windows but couldn't see much from where she stood;
It looked cozy, the people inside looked like they were having fun... it looked absolutely overwhelming to Chrissy and just as she was about to go back to her car she saw a glimpse of him.
He was still just as cool as she remembered him, with his long hair and his leather jacket and the confident, almost cocky attitude...then, when he turned to the side she saw it, the little girl in his arms, with curly brown hair almost the same colour as his, he lifted her in the air, making her laugh.
...And suddenly Chrissy felt like someone had punched her.
Eddie Munson had a daughter and probably a wife too. Why wouldn't he have a family?! He was the sweetest man she'd ever met.
She felt incredibly stupid for thinking she'd show up and he'd magically fall in love with her, when they hadn't spoken a word in years and even back then all they had in common was the shared trauma of being stuck together for a couple of days and almost dying in some nightmare-ish alternate dimension.
He probably didn't even remember her, hadn't wasted a single thought on the ditzy cheerleader who wanted to buy drugs from him.
Like on autopilot she walked the few steps back to her car.
"Chrissy!"
She quickly and as discreetly as possible wiped away the tears that she'd failed to hold back.
"It's really you! Good to see you!"
He did a little jog towards her, his arms spread out for a hug.
"Eddie!" She squeaked when he embraced her almost lifting her off the ground.
Maybe he hadn't forgotten her after all...probably hard to fully forget the girl whose boyfriend wanted to murder you when all you did was trying to help her.
He was warm and he smelled good and Chrissy wanted nothing more than to nuzzle her face deeper in the crook of his neck and never let go of him until she realized she was behaving like a weirdo...
"You look beautiful."
She brushed her hands along the front of the crimson velvet dress she wore under her unbuttoned coat, trying to flatten imaginary creases.
She knew she'd gained a couple of pounds since she started going to therapy and was recovering but, even only illuminated by the street lights, the soft smile on his lips and the way his gentle brown eyes looked at her, told her his compliment was genuine, not just an empty statement to fill the awkward silence.
"Thank you...So do you."
"Yeah well..."
He chuckled, almost bashfully running his fingers through his hair.
"Come on let get inside."
He reached for her hand but she stood there petrified.
"What's wrong?"
She couldn't tell him the truth, that meeting his wife and their toddler would probably shatter her heart into a million pieces.
"Oh...um...I don't think I can go inside, I wanted to but... I get overwhelmed pretty easily by so many people..."
It wasn't a complete lie.
He nodded, looking sad.
"Yeah...me too sometimes...ever since, you know. I had a couple of panic attacks backstage before concerts...fun stuff."
He rolled his eyes and slightly shook his head and Chrissy wanted to hug him again.
"Hey, how about you're my date for tonight! For old times' sake; The freak and the cheerleader! And neither of us has to go in there alone."
He smiled at her and she tried so hard not to cry. Of course he was just joking but she couldn't stop thinking about walking in there with his arm around her shoulder, smiling, laughing at his silly jokes, having a wonderful time and then going home with him by the end of the night...
"You're not a freak, you're a rockstar now and I...I'm not a cheerleader anymore."
...'I'm a freaking mess' she added in her head.
"Oh fuck, you're probably happily married now and I say shit like that! Sorry, that was a stupid idea."
"I'm not...Your wife probably wouldn't like that either though."
"I'm single! "
He interjected energetically.
" You're...a single dad? Must be difficult..."
"Dad?! I'm definitely not a dad..."
He caught her eyes absentmindedly drifting in the direction of the window behind him.
"Oh! That's Lucy! When was the last time you saw my uncle?"
"I don't know...Graduation day, i guess. Why?"
"Wayne has a wife and a little daughter now...she's almost 2, I guess the old man made good use of the privacy he got as soon as he had the trailer to himself. Do you wanna meet them?."
"She's your cousin?..."
He nodded and leaned against her car, smirking at how her expression suddenly changed.
"...The offer still stands, princess." He extended his hand to her in an almost theatrical way.
"Do you want to be my date? ...We don't have to stay long and we can leave if it gets too much for you."
Chrissy felt like she was losing her mind, Eddie Munson not only turned out to be single after all, he asked her to be his date and was an absolute sweetheart, he also hinted at leaving the party with her.
"I'd love to."
She smiled as she took his hand and let him lead her to the house.

Maybe one where female reader is scared to take showers alone? Rick notices this somehow and then they like-uhh- take a shower together IN A ROMANTIC WAY like no sexual stuff just real romantic and loving or smth
if thats weird im sorry and you dont have to write it lol 💀
Loved this thought so much, ugh. Hope I did it somewhat justice. xx
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ever since the invasion incident, you were absolutely petrified of being home alone.
In truth, you have never been a huge fan to begin with. You loved having your own space and time to do as you please, but when trouble strikes, being left to your own devices is not fun. In addition, you're quite paranoid so any strange noises you hear at night are automatically a threat.
By your bedside is a collection of weapons for said threats- baseball bat, taser, mace, and an alert box given to you by your dearest friend Rick.
"A-alright, you press this button and it shows a data scan of the house and who's in it" he'd explained. "This other button, after being held down for 5 seconds, will alert the police and my own receptive remote that you're in danger. D-don't be an idiot. Hide it when you're drunk or bored so you don't get the temptation to press them like a toddler."
You'd rolled your eyes and scoffed. Of course he couldn't make a sweet gesture without inserting his condescendence. But you quickly changed your face and demeanor to one of sweetness.
"Uh huh. Thank you Rick, you're so good to me" you'd said, making sure your voice sounded slightly seductive while matching his patronizing tone as you touched his arm. You knew it would have an impact since you were only wearing a sheer nightgown that accentuated your breasts and exposed your smooth legs.
He'd flushed pink while staring down at you. He knew just as well you did that you two were well beyond "friends" but that's what was labeled to your relationship. No one could counter him the way you do, or make him feel so normal and good, even after all his transgressions. No one could make him so hard either.
He took a drink from his flask, ignoring the growing sensation in his pants. "I-it's no problem."
You'd hoped you wouldn't have to use any of the weapons or the box anytime soon. But 4 days ago, you'd received the news that your neighbor's house was broken into. Even worse, the woman had been in the shower while the person entered- the bathroom door open. Thankfully, the invader didn't take any harmful action apart from stealing money from her wallet and running on his heels after she'd spotted him through the doorway.
Now though, you were sure that you'd be next. And the anxiety had not stopped flowing in your veins since that night. You knew that you needed to get over it and that you were safe, but you hadn't showered in 3 days because of it.
You decided to force yourself to try, however. Moving slowly, you entered your bathroom and turned the knob to run the shower. The loud sound started as the water came out and your heart thudded fast. It's so loud, I definitely wouldn't be able to hear anyone breaking in. I wouldn't have time to even grab a weapon or the stupid box, your anxiety screamed at you.
You shut off the water and go back to sit on your bed and hold your head in your hands in frustration. Before you can contemplate your next move, a glowing green light fills your vision as Rick steps into your room. You've come to barely flinch at it anymore, whereas you used to scream and throw things at him.
"Heyo, so when I was with Morty I found the fuckin- whoa. W-why do you look like a dirty orRPHAN?" He belches, raising his brows at you.
You want to pretend to be annoyed with a witty comeback but the embarrassment from your fear is overpowering. Your hug yourself out of insecurity as you look at him. "Um, I've, I haven't showered in like a day or two. Nothing serious."
He stares blankly before a realization seems to strike his face. "Because of the neighbor thing?" He asks.
You look away in shame. "Yeah."
He's silent for a few seconds before speaking again. "W-well go shower. I'll be here to watch the house."
You can only agree and make your way to start the water back again. You strip your clothes off and get in, feeling a little more at ease, knowing he'll be here basically guarding you. But then again, Rick can be obnoxiously unpredictable and may portal away out of habit. You sigh, wishing you could just shut off your worrying brain.
Your thoughts are interrupted by the feeling of something moving in your hair. You gasp and spin around to find Rick in the shower with you, also naked, as his hands detract from your hair to hold your shoulders steady.
"RICK, WHY THE F-"
"Hey Y/N, it's okay" he whispers and you're taken aback some by his gentle tone and soft touch. "I-I know you're still scared s-so I'm gonna help you get over it. Just- just close your eyes and trust me."
You breathe out slowly and do as he says before turning back around. He begins running his fingers through your hair again which makes you lean back into his touch in pleasure.
When he's done soaking the shampoo in your hair, he gently turns you so your hair rinses in the water. He then gets the soap and rubs it over his hands before softly caressing your arms, chest, and shoulders. You don't feel awkward or exposed, but taken care of- comforted and, dare you say.. loved?
He smoothes over the rest of your body and you take the time to open your eyes. His spiky blue tufts of hair are flattened from the water and hanging over the sides of his face. His face is calm and relaxed as your bodies are pressed together.
You pump out some shampoo onto your hand. "My turn," you say, trying to hide your smile.
He drops his arms to his side and bends down slightly so you can reach his hair.
The action almost makes you melt completely at his submissive vulnerability in such a caring manner. You still have to stand on your toes a bit to reach the top of his head. You run your fingers slowly through his wild hair, massaging his scalp in circles before bringing your hands to the sides of his face. He places his arms around your waist to hold you both in place.
"Rick.."
His eyes flutter open and his face still appears to be in a daze. "Hmm?"
"I just gave you the most wicked mohawk."
His hands still firmly on your back, he sighs quietly. "S-so I take it you're not scared anymore?"
Hold On Masterlist
6:45am on Saturday morning, Sophie came waddling into your room in tears. “Mama” she cried, making your stir. “Oh baby, what’s wrong?” You asked as you lifted her up onto your bed, her crying didn’t stop. “Did you have a bad dream?” You asked. She nodded, rubbing her eyes “I want mommy” she sobbed. It broke your heart anytime your children cried, “baby come here” you opened your arms wide for her to cuddle you. That she did, she snuggled into your chest. “Mama’s here baby, it’s okay” you cooed to comfort the toddler.
“Mommy makes the monsters go away” Sophie spoke through a snotty nose. You carefully rubbed her back, “tell mama what happened and maybe mama can scare them away this time?” You offered.
Your daughter told you about her dream that made absolutely no sense to you, but you nodded and listened carefully to her nightmare through her sobs.
“My goodness baby, they are some very mean monsters aren’t they!” You say up with Sophie now sitting in your lab, she nodded “make them go away mama!” She cried. “Will you show mama where they’re hiding?” You asked. Sophie nodded and climbed off your bed rushing to her room as you followed closely behind her. She pointed to her wardrobe that was left open overnight. Now everything made sense.
Natasha made use to close the wardrobe every night ever since Sophie had watched Monster Inc.
--Flash Back—
“Mama” Sophie cried as she shook you awake. “Mommy” she cried when you didn’t stir.
“Baby, what’s wrong?” Natasha sat up slowly, pulling the little girl onto her lap before hugging her tightly. “There’s monsters in my room mommy” Sophie explains while in the comfort of her mother’s arms. Natasha didn’t waste any time, she carried Sophie back to her room.
“Where’s the monsters medovyy” Natasha placed Sophie carefully on her bed. Sophie points directly to the wardrobe that was wide open. “In there mommy” she wipes her tears.
Natasha walked up to the wardrobe as Sophie watched her mommy fight off the scary monsters. “Any monsters in here better leave my baby girl alone or you’ll have her mommy to deal with! I have a more powerful roar than you all and my princess is trying to sleep out here!” Natasha plays along.
“Do it mommy!” Sophie giggles, “show the monsters!” she adds.
“Show them mommy’s roar? I don’t know baby; we might wake up mama and riley” Nat looks over to her daughter who is now smiling.
“Do it quietly mommy” Sophie whispers.
“I have a better idea, come here Soph”
Sophie wiggles off her big girl bed and runs to Nat as she kneels down to Sophie’s level.
“How about you show them how big your roar is?” Nat suggests. Sophie peeps past Nat to the dark wardrobe and shakes her head, “you can do it, you’re my big brave girl” Nat encourages her. It took a moment but Sophie lefts out a loud lion like roar which woke you quickly.
“Sophie?!” you called out in a worry before jumping out of bed and rushing to her room, a sigh of relief let your body when you saw Nat and Sophie by the wardrobe giggling. “What are you girls doing?! You scared me!” you watched as Nat held Sophie close.
“There was monsters in there mama!” Sophie explains between giggles. “But what did my brave girl do?” Nat smiles. “I scared them off mama! I showed them my powerful roar like mommy’s!”
You smiled at the scene, your heart warm and full of love. “Alright my little monster fighters, I think we should go back to bed, it’s very late” you suggested. Natasha threw you a smile, “go back to bed detka, I’ll read her a story” Nat says as Sophie jumps back into her bed.
--Flash Back Over—
“Did you show them your powerful roar?” you asked, and Sophie nodded. “they’re still in there mama!” she adds. You walked over to the wardrobe partly wishing Natasha was here. You gave the monsters a ‘speaking too’ before closing the door completely. “Mama is going to lock them in there for now, they are in the naughty corner” you smiled to your daughter who didn’t seem convinced. “No mama, you have to roar at them! Like mommy does” she explains.
Before you could do as instructed by your daughter a horrific loud scream came from Riley’s room. You grabbed Sophie without hesitation and running to Riley’s room.
“Honey what’s wrong?! Are you okay?” You ask in a worry, placing Sophie back on her feet to comfort a distressed Riley.
“Th-there was somebody at my window!” He speaks. Your brows frown as you walk over to the window, Rooster growls at the back door. “Stay in here, watch Sophie, okay? I’ll be back” you instructed, closing the bedroom door behind you.
Looking around you for anything to grab for protection, one of Riley’s old baseball bats will have to do. “What is it boy?” You ask Rooster who is still growling, waiting for you to open the back door. His heckles standing tall you slowly slide the back door open, and Rooster takes off down to the back fence with a vicious bark to warn off the intruder.
Slowly, you made your way down to the back fence, gripping the bat in hand harshly. “Good boy rooster!” You praise him, his bark returning to a grow.
“Whoever’s out there. He will bite!” You say loudly in case whoever it was heard it. You waited outside by Rooster’s side for a few more moments until you felt the intruder was gone, Rooster’s growl coming to a stop would confirm this for you.
“Good boy!” You praised him again, “come on, inside boy” you added as you made your way back inside.
Riley had Sophie sitting on his bed while they waited for you to return.
“Are they gone Mama?” Riley asked, his voice shaking. “Yes baby, Rooster scared them off real good” you pulled him in close for a tight hug, “are you okay?” You ask then placed a kiss on the top of his head.
Riley nodded slowly, “they were wearing a scary mask” he says. Now you wondered if Sophie had seen the same thing. “Whoever they were I’m sure they won’t be coming back, okay?” Riley pulled away from your hold and nodded, “can we have pancakes for breakfast please?” He asks.
“Of course, it’s game day! Do you want strawberries on top or banana?” You smiled.
“Uhmm” he thinks, “banana!”
“Banana it is! What about you little miss? Strawberries or banana on top of your pancakes?” You walk over scooping Sophie up into your arms, following Riley into the kitchen. “Bwrries!” Sophie replies.
——
“Alright bud, we’re leaving in 30 minutes! Do you want to make sure you’ve got everything while I cut up from orange bites for later?” You spoke as you turned the morning cartoons off. Riley excitingly jumps off the sofa and grabs his sports back before entering his room. “Thank you” you call to him.
Knock at the door stops you from making your way to the kitchen. Opening the door slowly, surprised to see Natasha standing in her casual weekend wear. “Nat, hi” you softly smile.
“Morning, sorry I hope it’s okay I’m here. I thought I’d come see the kids before the game” she explains.
“Of course, come in” you allow her to enter. “Sophie is playing in her room and Riley is just getting his stuff ready. I was just about to cut up from orange bites for later” you explain, closing the door.
“Sounds like a busy morning” Nat lightly chuckles while following you to the kitchen. “Well, Sophie woke me up at 6:45 in tears”
“Oh, is she okay?”
“Uhm. I’m not sure actually” you turn and placed a couple of oranges on a chopping board, looking at Natasha with concern.
“Is she sick?” Natasha asks, reading your facial expression.
“Riley said somebody was at his window this morning. Sophie told me the, you know, the monsters were back so I was dealing with that before Riley screamed, he said there was a person wearing a scary mask at his window. I don’t know if Sophie saw the same thing”
“Wait, somebody was hanging around? Did you see them?” Nat frowns
“No, I didn’t see anything. Rooster ran down to the back fence and growled for a bit, but I wasn’t able to see anybody” you explained.
“But everybody is okay? Right?”
“Yeah, we’re all okay” you assured her. You saw how much Nat hated not being here to protect her family if anything were to happen, it wasn’t her fault, that was on you. You told her to pack her things. “Hey…if you’re free, did you want to have the kids tonight? They miss you and I’m sure they’d love to spend more time with you” you offered hoping it would ease her worries.
“Uh, sure! I’d love that”
You softly smile at her before starting to cut up the oranges to place them in a lunchbox.
“Can I give you a hand?” Natasha asks.
It was nice to be able to stand in the same room as Nat without fighting, you nodded, “sure, got to cut enough for the whole team” you hand her a knife and a couple of oranges.
—Flash Back—
“Agh, I love how big this kitchen is!” You boost while you cut into a thick carrot. It’s been two weeks since you and Natasha had moved into the newly built home. “I’d hope you” Natasha chuckles, “you did want a big space to cook” she adds.
“Are you complaining Mrs Romanoff?” You smirk while she approaches you from behind, wrapping her arms around you. “Not at all Mrs Romanoff” she replies. You blush at her name now being yours, being married only a few months it was still new, but you loved the sound of it.
Natasha places a kiss on your cheek, “What are you making?” her raspy voice speaks softly. “Lasagne” you say cheerfully. “Can I help?” Natasha offers. Spinning around to face her, you wrap your arms around her neck and look into be deep green eyes. “Sure baby” you lean in and kiss her lips softly.
Most of the night was spent teaching Natasha how to make your famous homemade lasagne, although you swore, she just played on that she wasn’t sure what she was doing, you did seem to mind. Any chance she got, she had her arms wrapped around your waist placing soft kisses on your lips and telling you sweet nothings against your lips.
—Flash Back Over—
“I’m glad you’re able to come today. Riley is really excited” you say to break the silence.
“Ma! Have you seen my drink bottle?!” Riley calls from his room before Natasha could speak. “It’s in the dishwasher bud! I’ll fill it with water in a moment” you call back before giving Natasha a playful shake of your head.
Riley came out of his room, placing his bag on the dining table, “Mom!! You’re here” he jumps as soon as he sees Nat. “I told you I’d be there” Nat smiled before hugging the excited basketball player. “Are you coming with us?” He asks.
“I’ll be right behind you!” She smiles.
“After the game you and Soph are going to stay at Moms for the night” you inform him. His eyes lit up, “yes!” He jumps with excitement! You and Nat chuckled lightly while Riley filled up his water bottle. “Have you got everything?” You asked. “Everything is all packed, but I can’t find my shoes” he explains.
“They’re by the front door” you cocked an eyebrow at his lack of looking, “oh” he places his water bottle in his back before racing to the front door.
“Thanks for helping” you look at Nat before cleaning up the mess from the oranges. “I’ll get Sophie, is she all ready?” Nat gives you a warm smile. “Yeah, she just needs shoes on” you replied.
——
Riley’s basketball game went well, his team won by two points, but Riley was most proud that Natasha sat through the whole game.
“Did you see me mom?! I got a pointer!” Riley hugged Natasha after coming out of the change rooms. “I did superstar! You were amazing, I’m so proud of you!” Natasha wears a proud smile on her lips. “Well done baby!” you smiled before placing a kiss on Riley’s right cheek. You held Sophie on your right hip while Natasha grabbed Riley’s bag.
“Mom, are you coming to get smoothies with us?” Riley looked up at Natasha. A little tradition you had made with Riley after ever game you’d take him to for a smoothie and a play in the park if he wasn’t too tired already. Natasha looked over to you then back to Riley. “It’s up to mama” she tells him.
“It’s fine, you can come” you gave her a soft smile. Riley jumped with excitement.
The four of you ordered takeaway smoothies and had a small walk through the park before letting the kids play on the playground.
“Nat…you know, you never have to ask to join us. You’re their mother…just because we’re not together doesn’t mean we can’t spend time with them together” you spoke as the two of you sat at a park bench watching over the playground.
“I don’t want to be too much for you. I know we’ve been fighting a lot and I want to give you space, that’s why I ask” Nat replies before a small sigh left her body. “Y/n, what can I do?” she looks to you, “I want to fix this. I miss us, I miss you, I miss them” she adds.
You weren’t sure what to say, you missed her that was all you knew but things have been a little tricky since you told her to leave, you felt guilty. “Nat” said softly.
“Detka, if you want to move then we’ll move, whatever you want, I promise”
“You can’t just retire and think that’s going to fix everything Nat, it was more than that…you showed that we were always second on your list of priorities and I understand how important being an Avenger is to you and the world but…you’re important to us too”
Natasha carefully placed her hand on top of yours and looked into your eyes, “I know and I’m so sorry that I left you slip through my fingers like that. You and the kids deserve better from me, all I’m asking is a chance to show that I can do better”
Looking back into Natasha’s eyes you could see how sorry she was, how hurt she was and how much she blamed herself.
--Flash Back—
“I’m so glad that mission is over!” Nat sighed before joining you on the sofa, placing her head on your lap. You smiled then started running your fingers through her soft red hair that you loved so much. “I’m just glad you’re finally home”
“I have something for you” Natasha looks up at you, reaching her hand into the pocket of her sweatpants. “I don’t think we need any more fridge magnets” you chuckled.
Nat sometimes would bring you little gifts from different places she’d been. This time was different, she pulled a small black box from her pocket and handed it to you.
“Natasha” you said in an almost whisper, hesitant to open the little box. Natasha slowly sat up, “open it detka” she smiles. Her eyes so full of love and protection for you, carefully you opened the box. A small gasp left your lips when you saw the ring, repeating yourself “Natasha”
Nat got off the sofa and kneeled in front of you on one knee. “I wanted to plan a big thing for you, but I wanted it to be a surprise and you’re way to good at getting surprises out of me” Nat chuckled as you looked at her, tears filled your eyes. “Once I thought I’d never find anybody that would make me feel the way you do. Genuine love and care, you opened my eyes to a world I didn’t think existed for me – “
“Yes” you said before she even got a chance to ask you the question. Natasha chuckled once again, you nodded, “yes Natasha, yes” you never broke the eye contact.
“You’ll marry me?” she asks just to be sure.
“Yes!!” you repeat with a wide smile. Natasha carefully takes the ring out of the box and places it on your finger. You cupped her face softly and kissed her deeply, “I love you so much” you whispered.
--Flash Back Over—
You felt yourself sinking into the look on her eyes, the feel of her touch on your hand. “Uhm, you... can... drop the kids off whenever you want” you chocked, “I’ll be home” you added as you stood from the bench.
“Y/n” Nat spoke, “please don’t go” she begged. You cleared your throat, “I have…housework to do and Riley’s basketball uniform to wash” you made the excuse before walking to your car. Natasha sighed as you walked away from her, as much as she wanted to watch you walk to your car, her attention was quickly drawn back to watching over the kids.
----
You spent the afternoon, looking over your copy of divorce papers while scrolling through real-estate websites looking at houses. It was only then that you found how silent the house was without the kids, without Natasha. Rooster sat at your feet to keep you company while you sipped your wine and made a list of houses that interested you, houses that looked like the perfect fit for the new family of 3.
“Alright poor, I think it’s time for Mama to have a shower” you looked down at the family dog who slept peacefully at your feet.
The warm shower didn’t seem to help boost your saddened mood, your mind replaying Natasha’s words over and over, trying to stand your ground knowing the kids deserved better from Natasha. She’s a great mother but her recent absence and leaving you to pick up the pieces wasn’t fair on you or the children. But even knowing they deserved better you hated to see Riley so sad without his mother in the house again, Sophie crying for Natasha whenever she’s had a bad dream, or she tripped over. You wished things were different.
After your shower you let Rooster back inside for bed. Rarely did you allow the dog to sleep in your room, but he was persistent himself to not leave your side. “Come on boy, on the bed” you patted the side next to you. He jumped up and made himself comfortable. “Good boy Rooster” you patted him softly.
Slowly you drifted in and out of sleep, unable to get Natasha out of your mind. A loud crash sound came from the kitchen causing Rooster to jump of the bed, his heckles high like they were this morning, his growl deepened. “Hang on Rooster” you said softly before you started hearing footsteps in the house.
Quickly grabbing your phone from your bedside table, shakingly dialling Nat.
“There you are!” a deep voice said as your bedroom door was kicked in, you screamed at the masked man, Rooster doing his best to protect you. Biting at the intruder’s ankles before he was harsh kicked off “stupid mutt!” the man mumbled.
“Wh-what do yo-you wa=want?!” you stuttered in fear, as he backed you into the corner of your bedroom. “Just you” he said before grabbing you by the hair and pulling you towards the kitchen. Tears quickly running down your face before you were harshly sat on the hair in the dining room.
“Ta-take whatever yo-you want! Ju-just leave me be! Please!” you begged.
The masked man laughed before pulling out a gun and pointing it at you. “You’ve got noting I want” he says. You froze as you looked down the barrel of the gun. “Th-then wh-what… do you want?” you stuttered once again. The unknown man ignored your question as he began to tie you tightly to the chair. “Please… I’m n-not worth it” you begged.
“Well, that’s not how a woman should talk about herself now is it?” he said in a sarcastic tone.
“Pl-please!” you cried, “if it’s m-money you wa-want just take my purse”
“No, no, you’ve got it all wrong” he spoke as he finished tying you down.
You dropped your head as you felt helpless, barely able to move your legs and arms, scared but so glad Natasha had the kids.
“Your wife took everything from me” he spoke, pointing the gun at you again “and now, I’m doing to do the same to her” he adds in a dark tone.
I love your work! I was wondering if you’d be willing to write something about (toddler) baby Shelby having Alfie help her bake a cake for Tommy
omggggg that’s so so cute!!
A Bakers Help
The burly Camden Town ‘baker’ was nothing short of completely shocked when he heard a soft banging on his office door in the mid afternoon. His eyebrows had furrowed and he had kept his hand readily on his weapon so he was prepared in the event of an enemy being on the other side of the door. He was surprised to say the least when he tugged open the door and had to look down multiple inches to spot she who knocked on the door.
There stood a little girl. One he knew fairly well but who’s appearance outside his office was still a shock. That little girl was notorious around most of England, especially in heavily gang populated territories where the “Shelby” was a household name and everybody who knew that name knew the littlest member of the family was something akin to a jewel in Tommy Shelby’s crown. Alfie had been curious as to whether or not she was actually attached to Thomas Shelby’s hip in consideration to how much time she spent right by his side, teetering along on little legs so he knew she was safe right by his side. It wasn’t often that Tommy entrusted others to watch over his youngest sister, so it would be safe to say that Alfie was incredibly confused.
“Good morning.” The little girl greets, her lips plastered with a bright smile as she lifts a hand to wave at him. Alfie braces himself on either side of his doorway with strong hands so as to lean out of his office to look out into the ‘bakery’ to both the left and right before stepping back in. “Mhm yes it was actually. Where’s your brothers?” He asks, turning his eyes back to the girl in the doorway who fights to pull her wool coat back up from falling off her arms due to the fact it hadn’t been buttoned up. The girl shrugs, “Dunno...Can I come in?” She asks politely, “It’s very cold.”
Alfie Solomons squints his eyes and forms a crease between his brows, but even he can’t deny the chill in the winter breeze through the unheated factory and the shivering of the child, and so he steps to the side and gestures her in the door. Alfie hums, or maybe something more akin to a grumble, in thought as the five year old wanders around his office to take in the whole surroundings. “And where are your pikey brothers then yeah?” His voice rumbles deep and gravelly the same way it always does, not missing the chance or thinking twice about dropping an insult to the Shelby men as he speaks. The youngest of the clan shrugs her little shoulders. “Dunno,” she says again, “I’m with Ada. Told her i was going out to play.”
The words most definitely do worry Alfie Solomons after the girl with Tommy Shelby’s striking blue eyes and his heart in the palm of her tiny hand finishes speaking flippantly. It occurs to him that she’s simply too young to understand both risk and consequence. She knows that Tommy Shelby dotes on her like the little princess he believes her to be. She knows he loves her, he tells her every day. However, Alfie knows the far darker side to that love. He’s heard of people brutally murdered with remains unidentifiable after coming close to her, and although Alfie has no desire to harm a child who probably doesn’t even understand what it is the rest of her family do when she’s not around, that doesn’t reassure him even in the slightest that Tommy, Arthur, Ada and John Shelby along with Polly Gray wouldn’t rip him to shreds if they knew their little princess was stood in his office for whatever reason.
“Right,” Alfie states, “Better get you home then,” He strides easily towards the door to hold it open, but the little girl simply quirks one eyebrow and remains where she stands. “It’s Tommy’s birthday soon.” She declares, looking up at the hardened London gangster as if he poses no threat nor fear to her in the slightest bit. She smiles at him, big and bright. She didn’t know him. She didn’t know if he was violent, didn’t know if he was supposed to be scary. She just knew she had met him before, he was relatively funny as the 5 year old obviously did not pick up on the thinly veiled threats hiding beneath the verbal back and forth between her favourite brother and the man she stood with now, and more importantly than anything; she knew he was a ‘baker’. “You need a cake on your birthday, you know.” She adds very matter of factly, and Alfie Solomons doesn’t fight the little grin he gives. “And you’re a baker, so you can make good cakes. I need you to help me make Tommy’s cake for birthday cake time on Saturday.”
There’s virtually no way this little girl had just come up with this by herself. The way she acts, her generosity, her sweetness and her absolute insistence of cake for her brothers birthday was not something she had adapted by herself. Children don’t just come up with these things. That thought, for Alfie, means that those who have raised her have drilled a certain kindness into her. Thomas Shelby has raised his little sister to be the kind of kid who will find a man she thinks is a baker just because her brother told her he was, so that he can help her make a cake. That makes Alfie want to laugh. Tommy Shelby acts the part, but Solomons now knows he’s the type who taught a little girl about the importance of cake and birthday fun.
“Fine.” Alfie responds, out stretching his arm to gesture the little girl out into the factory. He did actually have a designated area for the ‘bakery’ just in the event that someone came looking or investigating and he needed to show there was actually a bakery there. He was thankful for that now, because he got the feeling that there was little to no chance he would have gotten away from the very very persistent little Shelby trailing behind him. It becomes apparent very quickly that little (y/n) will have no luck when it comes to seeing what was going on up on the counter, considering she wasn’t even nearly the same height as it, never mind tall enough see over it. Alfie has to get creative in that respect, eyes flicking around until they lands on a a stack of crates that he grabs a couple of to pile them next to the counter so that the youngest Shelby can contribute as she pleased to the cake making.
All things considered, Alfie was actually a fairly good baker. He didn’t come up with the idea of a bakery to cover his illegal business work for no reason. He knew he could bake if it was necessary (which it sometimes was to smuggle alcohol), so this ask from the little girl who had a list of ingredients and an exact image of how she wanted this cake to look, wasn’t a huge task for him.
In the process of the bake, Alfie learned a lot. He learned that little Shelby couldn’t quite pronounce her L’s (which Tommy was apparently working on with her), so she called him Afie. He learned that Tommy’s favourite cake was vanilla sponge, which was why it was a four tier vanilla sponge with extra strawberry jam that his sweet little sister had chosen. He learned that the little girl got here by very discretely tripping up her cousin, Karl, so that Ada was preoccupied giving him a plaster for his knee and stopping his tears and (y/n) snuck off from Ada’s London home in the direction she felt like she remembered Tommy going when he had taken her to Alfie’s bakery once, albeit leaving her in the car with Arthur and John. She had to ask for directions from confused strangers a few times, but ultimately she found the place on her own. Alfie learned that little Shelby talks a lot. She’s very clever, can follow instructions a lot better than most children of a similar age. It had become increasingly clear she didn’t see any problem with talking about the fun things she did with her brothers. The way Arthur and John like to throw her about to hear her giggles, how Tommy tucks her in every single night that he can. How he tickles her, how he still carries her around even though her aunt Polly protests it. How good her aunt Polly’s cooking is. How much she loves her family. She sees no problem with divulging these soft family moments, although Tommy would probably be absolutely appalled that people knew these things about him and his brothers. It made the head of the Peaky Blinders seem so incredibly mundane.
Alfie could see now why that sweet girl was so loved and held so dear by the family. He also had to wonder if she truly was one of them. She was funny and bright, she giggled with him and babbled on about sorts of rubbish. Alas, she was bossy as Thomas himself. She was loud like Arthur, sarcastic as John, self assured as Polly, as independent as Finn and opinionated as Ada. She made sure to tell Alfie exactly how to stack the first layer while she mixed ingredients for the next layer and he was kept on a very short leash, reminded every so often that he was not to dip his fingers in any of the mixtures and leaning over as he worked to tell him Tommy liked more jam than what Alfie had put on.
“Wait!” She yelps out, leaping off the makeshift kitchen stool made from those bottle crates to chase after Alfie until she reaches the man who was carrying the cake towards a box. “Finishing touches,” she insists, ever so slightly dusting the cake with powdered icing sugar to give a final decorational appearance. Alfie smiles subconsciously as the small girl stands back with a proud grin, turning her eyes to man holding the cake, “Thank you Afie,” she beams, her cute little way of saying his name never lost on him as his heart flutters. “Welcome, baby Shelby.” He responds as he slips it into the cake box he’d ordered one of his men to go and get without question.
Alfie was certain he would step outside his bakery and London would be burning. He expected to have Shelby’s killing people on the streets searching for their baby, their sweet little princess. He assumed (and rightly so) that Ada hadn’t told Tommy that she had absolutely no idea where his most precious little love was for genuine fear of his reaction and so she had mobilised some friends and acquaintances she had made while in London to try finding her little sister. Albeit they were evidently unsuccessful and absolutely no one expected little (y/n) to be baking with Alfie Solomons for her gangster brothers birthday because she just loves him so.
Ada literally burst out the front door frantically when she saw the car headlights pull up outside her house, wrapping herself tightly in her coat as Alfie Solomons lifts her little sister down out of the car. The 5 year old stands innocent as ever next to the man who Tommy never truly knows if he can trust or not as he reaches back into the car to lift out a white cake box with two strong hands. “Better keep a closer eye on this one yeah?” He gestured his head to (y/n) who runs towards Ada and jumps into her open arms to be squeezed incredibly, almost painfully tightly. “Never run off like that again!” She hisses, her concern and anxiety clear behind her words as she speaks into her sisters soft hair, stroking it with her hand for some form of reassurance.
“Sorry Ada,” she hums cutely in response, “We made Tommy a cake though, for his birthday!” Ada let’s go of (y/n) and turns to the little girl. “Go inside and find Aunt Pol, i’ll be in shortly.” She says as she eyes Alfie Solomons with the stoney faced glare he assumes she learned from Polly Gray and her often stoney resolve. “Bye bye Afie!” The 5 year old chimes, scuttling up to him to wrap her arms around his legs for a moment before turning and running off with a wave at the doorstep with Alfie a little bit to stunned by how kind she was to him despite the bad man he was to do much else than wave after her. “You,” Ada snipped, cutting him out of his thoughts and crossing her arms firmly over her chest, “Baked a cake with my little sister?” Her words leak with confusion, eyebrows furrowed with her head tilted in question as she continues to be unable to think of any reason why Alfie Solomons hadn’t turned the little girl away or even used her as a bargaining chip with threats of harm to the child if Tommy didn’t do as Alfie wanted. Instead he baked with her a cake for Thomas and she was returned without a bump, not even a hair on her head harmed. He had returned the little Shelby who was uncharacteristically clumsy for a Shelby without her falling off of anything, burning herself on any ovens or accidentally eating something she was supposed to.
“Yeah.” Alfie responds, shrugging his shoulders at the same time. Ada steps closer to him to try in some way to read what he’s not saying, her heels clicking with each step. “And you want nothing for it?” She presses, her eyes narrowed as he shrugs. “Birthday gift innit yeah?” He grumbles, handing the cake to Ada. “She’s the best of you lot,” he states firmly as he turns his back to climb back into his car, “Keep her that way yeah?”
Ada’s frown turns to a soft smile as she nods, watching as Alfie Solomons pulls his door shut firmly and turns on his ignition.
“Mr Solomons, Oi!” She calls after him, forcing him to roll down his window to hear what she has to say. “Thank you.” She breathes, “For looking after her and bringing her home. And for the cake.” Alfie nods his head in acknowledgment. Ada isn’t sure what else to say. She still feels fairly nauseous at the fact her little sister was missing for virtually the whole day and littered with further nerves at the fact Tommy would be around to pick her up in a half hour and it wasn’t like little Shelby to keep quiet about anything, especially not when it came to Tommy and especially when it came to her adventures that her favourite brother hadn’t been part of, so assuredly she would let him know all about her baking day with Alfie after the cake was revealed tomorrow afternoon for his birthday. Alfie knew this too and he imagined he’d get a visit from the head of the Peaky Blinders relatively soon after he found out.
Tommy would probably be as confused as Ada as to why Alfie looked after little (y/n) the way he did. Alfie couldn’t even really explain it himself, she just warmed up his heart and the sweet little girl showed Alfie truly why Tommy loves that little girl so much. She brings laughter and happiness and fun. She brings light into a very, very dark life and Alfie appreciates that dedication Tommy had to keeping her safe a lot more now. He himself now had a soft spot for the kid and there was a part of him that knew for a fact he too would be making sure no one in his circle was breathing words of harming that little girl who had promised she would bake with him again, and had his birthday written on her hand so she could bake for his birthday.
Maybe the Shelby’s weren’t so bad after all.
Back Home | Lip Gallagher
You slipped your coat on, rolling your eyes as the dumbass boy from your Calculus class called after you. “(Y/N), come on. It was a joke! I didn’t mean it— come back.” You laughed bitterly at this, trying to keep your tears in.
“Fuck off, Marcus.” You muttered, flipping him off before pushing the doors open.
So much for a fun night.
“Fuck!” You hissed as you stood in the cold, your body shivering and already covered in goosebumps. You were four blocks from your house, and now that you had walked out, you didn’t have a ride. Your only option was to walk so you got to steppin’.
Tears stung your eyes as your brain became overwhelmed and scattered with thoughts. If you had gone with Lip like the two of you had originally planned months before, it would of never went like this. You wouldn’t be walking home with mascara running down your face in the middle of winter during prom, that would of never been an option with Lip.
You sniffled and wiped at your face, unable to see clearly at this point. As you stood at the curb waiting for the car to pass, you heard footsteps behind you. You turned, seeing a tall and thin shadow jogging in your direction. Seeing the car turn, you carefully walked across the street, starting to get closer and closer to your house. You noticed the footsteps behind you were continuing, making you turn around once again.
Your breath hitched in your throat when you made eye contact with the jogger in the dark, your heart hammering in your chest. “(Y/N)?” The redhead spoke softly, jogging to catch up with you. He stopped beside you, smiling and looking at you. “I haven’t seen you in a while but you look great! What are you doing out here?”
You smiled, Ian’s words making your heart flutter. You were the closest to Ian— the first Gallagher you had actually met. It was him who introduced you to Lip and he was more than supportive of your relationship, but he was also the most disappointed when you ended things.
“Just walking home,” You spoke quickly, not wanting to talk about the topic too much if at all. “I missed you. You look great too, look at you— you’re filling out and shit!” You motioned towards his biceps that were covered tightly by his t-shirt. He was soaked with sweat and was panting, and you couldn’t help but smile when he tried to suppress it as he spoke to you.
“Thanks. Training— got to stay in tact, you know?” Ian chuckled, making you nod. You laughed as well, shivering slightly when a breeze suddenly brushed over the two of you. Ian didn’t move, appreciating the coldness but when he looked at you more carefully he noticed you were wearing a dress with a thin coat.
Not to mention the blackness on your cheeks and undereyes. You had been crying.
“Hey,” Ian spoke softly, making you look up at him with soft eyes. “I was making my way home, need a shower and should probably study a little while I’m at it. Do you want to come over? I know it’s been a little bit, but..”
You gulped, your heart hammering in your chest. “As much as I’d like that, Ian, I—”
“He won’t be home tonight.” Ian interrupted, his voice quiet and gentle. You sighed and bit your lip, thinking over it for a moment before nodding. The two of you continued the walk together in silence until he spoke up. “What’s the dress for?”
“Prom.” You sighed heavily, making Ian snort.
“You went to prom? Since when do you go to shit like that? And since when do you wear anything besides jeans?” Ian laughed, making you roll your eyes.
“Marcus Greene asked me to go with him and I figured maybe it would.. I don’t know— just been getting myself out there more, I guess.” You answered vaguely. Ian nodded.
“Isn’t prom supposed to end at like, 11?” He asked. You nodded softly, making him furrow his eyebrows and lift his left hand up to check his watch. “But it’s only 8:47.”
You shrugged, gulping. “Just wasn’t working.” You laughed sarcastically, making Ian sigh.
“I’m sorry, (Y/N/N). Hey, is it okay if I stop by Mick’s real quick to grab my bookbag? I left it there this morning.”
You nodded, smiling at the mention of Mickey Milkovich. You absolutely loved Mickey. You used to have a thing with Mandy in middle school and you became extremely close to Mickey in the process. When things ended, you remained close friends with the both of them with no problems or awkwardness.
After the breakup, you hadn’t seen much of either of them. Mickey was hardly ever at school, and that’s just how it’s always been. But Mandy kind of just disappeared after Karen got hit, and although you knew why she hadn’t come back or reached out, you wished she would even if it was just to say hi.
“Of course.”
“Okay, thanks. You can go to mine if you want and wait for me— I know it’s cold. The front door should be unlocked.”
You nodded approvingly, smiling at him as you crossed the street to walk to his house as he continued straight to Mickey’s house. You reached out to touch the familiar metal fence, your lip twitching as you pushed it open. You sighed heavily after shutting it, looking up at the blue house.
Your heart stopped and your breath got caught in your throat. Lip was sitting on the porch with a cigarette in hand, his eyes already locked on you. You licked your lips nervously as your eyes trailed over him— he was wearing a suit and his hair was done the way you had always begged him to do. It was your favorite.
The sight alone made your heart plummet and your stomach sink. “I’m here for Ian.” You blurted, your eyes still locked with his. It seemed impossible to look away no matter how badly you wanted to.
Lip took a small drag before breathing it out, his tongue poking out to wet his chapped lips. “He’s not here.” He mumbled, finally breaking the eye contact. Your eyes burned when he looked down at his finished cigarette, his eyebrows furrowed as he held in the smoke. “Why are you in a dress?” He asked disgustedly as he threw the cigarette to the ground, crushing it with his foot.
You were taken aback by his tone, but you ignored it. “I know, he’s at Mickey’s to grab his book bag. He told me to come here and wait for him because I was cold.” You crossed your arms over your chest.
Lip wiped his hands on his pants, looking at you up and down once more, his face filled with utter confusion. “Probably because you’re in a dress,” He repeated. “Why?”
You rolled your eyes, looking him up and down as well. “Why are you in a suit?” You shivered at how nasty the words came out.
“Prom.” He answered coolly.
“Prom.” You repeated, motioning to yourself. He nodded in understanding before looking behind you. You turned, seeing Ian walking towards you.
“Shit, (Y/N), I’m sorry. He told me he wouldn’t be home until late tonight.” He whispered to you. He tossed the book bag onto his shoulders and wrapped his arm around you, rubbing at you softly. The physical contact made you tear up immediately and you stayed silent as Ian walked the two of you up to the house. Lip moved out of the way and watched the two of you walk in.
As soon as he shut the door behind you, you held a sob. “Come on, let’s go upstairs. Shh.” Ian whispered, rubbing at your shoulders as he guided you out of the doorway and onto the stairs.
You trudged up the steps with heavy legs and wet eyes, shivering slightly as the two of you walked into the bedroom the three teenage boys shared. Ian guided you towards his bed, shutting the door behind him. You let out another sob, making the young boy in the room gasp at your presence.
“(Y/N)!” Carl squeaked, making you jump. You looked over, seeing him sitting on his bed with Liam and action figures. Before you could reply, his smile had dropped and his lips were turned into a frown. “Why are you crying?”
You smiled softly at the boy, wiping at your face. “Hey, buddy.” You ignored the question like it was nothing even though your heart felt like it was on fire.
“Are you back home now?” He asked, voice full of hope. The way he had worded it made you sob even harder, Ian sighing. Home. You didn’t know what you were supposed to say, and Ian didn’t either, but thankfully he spoke up.
“Look, (Y/N/N)’s not having a good night and I have to go take a quick shower. Will you keep her company and make sure Lip doesn’t come in?” He asked, running a hand through your hair as he spoke to the teenager across the room. Carl’s eyebrows furrowed, but knew better than to ask questions. He nodded. “Great. I’ll be right back.”
He grabbed a fresh pair of boxers and an old shirt from his drawers before leaving the bedroom, leaving you alone with Carl and Liam. “Do you want to hold Liam? He said your name the other day; he misses you.” Carl asked.
Sniffling, you nodded, sitting up properly while Carl walked to the bed with the toddler. You smiled when Liam squealed, his legs kicking the air while he was being passed to you. Your heart soared and you couldn’t help but pull him close to you. You had been with Lip for all of Liam’s life so being away from him for months has definitely taken a toll on you. He hadn’t grown too much, but he sure did some way or another.
“Hi, baby!” You cooed, pulling him away so you could press a kiss to his cheek. He giggled at this, reaching for your necklace like usual. “I missed you!” You squealed, lifting the boy into the air.
“Did you miss me, too?” Carl piped, making you set Liam down on your lap. You smiled, your eyes still watery and smeared with mascara.
“How could I not?” You replied, pulling him closer to press a kiss to his cheek. He smiled, sitting beside you to help you tickle Liam- his head rising when the door swung open. You, too, looked up- your smile dropping when you saw Lip standing in the doorway. Carl frowned, “Go.”
Lip snorted, crossing his arms across his chest. “You go. I want to talk to (Y/N).” His words were firm but his voice was soft. You gulped, your body tensing up. Lip looked at you once again, his eyes gentle and sad.
“No,” Carl scoffed. “Ian specifically told me not to let you in while she’s here, and she’s already sad, so just leave her alone- Jesus.”
Lip sighed heavily, rubbing at his face before dropping his hands. They dipped into his pockets. “I’m not gonna hurt her- promise. I just want to talk.” Carl sighed, looking over at you for conformation. You thought for a moment before nodding, Carl taking Liam from you before leaving the two of you alone. “Thanks, man.”
You tried to tear your eyes off of him as you watched him shut the door but you couldn’t. He turned around, taking a look around the room before deciding to sit at the chair underneath the loft bed. You sat up straighter, wiping at your face with the back of your hands nervously. Lip started swaying in the chair, his chest pressed against the back of it while his chin rested on the top of the chair. You swallowed anxiously when your eyes met, your heart racing in your chest.
You had never felt this way around Lip Gallagher before but you absolutely hated it.
“Who did you go with?” He spoke up, his voice low and quiet.
Your breath hitched in your throat, your stomach stinking. You stayed quiet for a few moments before clearing your throat. “Marcus Greene,” Lip nodded silently before you cracked your fingers nervously. “What about you?”
“Some girl paid me 50 bucks to pretend to be her boyfriend at the prom so she could make her ex jealous- they were making out within ten goddamn minutes, so,” He shook his head, making you laugh. He reached into his pockets and pulled out cash, waving it in the air. “Still got paid, too.”
“Wow, you were there for ten minutes and still got 50 bucks?” Lip nodded. “Lucky you.”
He smiled at you, and you smiled back. It instantly became awkward, the silence becoming almost unbearable after three whole minutes (it felt more like ten).
“Hey,” Lip whispered, making you look up at him. “It’s only a quarter till’ 10, we still got a little while. I mean, you’re dressed, I’m dressed. We have tickets.. It’d be kind of a waste not to go, don’t you think?”
You smiled. You knew he didn’t care about prom or the money going to waste or any of it. You nodded eagerly. “Yeah, it would be a waste, wouldn’t it?”
“Yeah, but not with you. Nothing with you is a waste.”
[ Some notes : Born Vampires stop aging when they turn twenty five. Turned vampires stop aging when they’re turned. ]
Summary :
21 year old Hwang Sera is sick of being the only human in an entire clan of vampires. As an immortal human from one of the oldest bloodlines, she is a catch. The Vampire she marries would essentially be indestructible.
Which makes her an easy target for greedy vampires everywhere.
Determined to keep his precious daughter safe, her father hires an old friend , Jeon Jungkook as her full time bodyguard.
Jungkook is 35 years old ( well technically 576 years old ) , father to an adorable five year old kid and he has zero tolerance for Sera and her teenage shenanigans. But , he needs the money and he knows his son would be safe in the Hwang clan’s massive mansion.
And suddenly, after years of despising vampires, all Sera can think about is getting into the gorgeous vampire’s bed and maybe into his heart.
Chapter 1
“He’s so hot.” My sister sighed for the seventeenth time and I glared at her.
“He’s mine. Back the fuck off.” I bared my non existent fangs at her and she retaliated by showing off her own inch long fangs, eyes flashing ruby red in the confines of our huge sprawling bedroom.
The man in question, my sparkling new bodyguard wasn’t here now. He was downstairs at the party, being introduced to the others as the latest addition to our clan.
My mouth watered when I remembered his gorgeous, handsome face. And that body , God.
Sculpted by some higher being who wanted to show off, for sure.
I had never given much thought to losing my virginity. It certainly wasn’t by design that I hadn’t had sex yet but looking at Jeon Jungkook in a fitted black suit, midnight black hair falling into his lovely red eyes and those delicious muscles.....
I kind of believed in fate now.
This was why I’d always been repulsed by the vampires who courted me.
Because Jeon Jungkook had been out there, waiting for me.
And now fate had brought him here and he was going to be mine.
I stumbled over a stray bra, nearly face planting onto the floor .
God, i hated how messy Somi was but I was also eternally grateful that she had skipped out on the party tonight, volunteering to help me with the kids.
I ran a daycare in one of the larger cottages in the estate, keeping the little fanged devils in check while the parents went about their daily lives. On nights like this, when my father hosted guests from every clan in the country for one of his lavish parties, there was always a whole bunch of bite-happy toddlers in need of supervision.
Enter me.
I loved babies. I’d always loved them. They were adorable. And after three years of school , I was finally, officially qualified in caring for them.
Oh and by the way did i tell you that Jungkook had a son? Jeon Joowon was possibly the cutest five year old I’d ever seen and yes I was a little biased but that was okay. I was going to be the kids step mom , after all.
Listen, don’t look at me like that, I just really want to be with Jungkook okay?
I tripped over the same bra when turning back around and I swore.
Focus, Sera. You can day dream about hot vampire daddy later.
“ Why do you have to throw your shit all over the place like this? “ I whined, grabbing the offensive piece of fabric and tossing it at her. She caught is so fast I went a little cross eyed. My sister never missed an opportunity to show off her super-saiyan, vampire powers. That made her a crowd favorite with the toddlers and younglings .
“I still don’t think your choice of a career is smart. These fanged little beasts are impossible to control... ” She commented mildly, watching me stuff two whole cartons of baby wipes into the huge backpack I had propped against the bed. I’d forgotten to restock the day care with wet wipes and it was sheer luck that I had a pair of them lying around my room.
The very idea of entering a room full of babies and toddlers without baby wipes, made me shudder.
“Listen, they’re absolute angels when you listen to what they’re saying. Just because babies can’t talk doesn’t mean they don’t have preferences. All you really need to do is find out what each kid likes and help them feel comfortable -”
“Please stop.” She rolled her eyes and I glared at her.
“I’m a little thirsty. Can i have a sip..” She said softly and I frowned.
“You haven’t drunk from me the entire day. Are you okay?” I held my wrist out.
She shrugged , grabbing my wrist and casually sinking her fangs into the vein . Pain bloomed, familiar and somehow comforting , replaced almost at once by the gentle numbing of her venom. She drank a little and pulled back soon after, linking the puncture wounds for good measure. I watched the skin knit itself together , whole and unmarred in no time.
Perks of being immortal.
The knock on the door made me jump.
“Ms Hwang?” Jungkook’s soft, husky voice came floating through the door and I grinned, cheeks aching with how wide my smile was.
“You look like a maniac. Stop smiling.” My sister looked a little alarmed and I struggled to rearrange my features. Sticking my tongue out at her, I grabbed my sweatshirt, slipping it overhead quickly. I glanced at the mirror, grimacing a bit.
Being with toddlers meant no make up or hair left free.... and so I had a messy top bun, and just lip gloss to look presentable. While the entire party teemed with gorgeous vampires in low cut gowns and blood red lips.
Ugh.
I grabbed the backpack and waved to Somi.
“Come as soon as you can alright?” I begged her and she waved me off.
I rushed to the door, throwing it open and smiling wide.
“Hi oppa.” I said cheerfully.
“I’m not your oppa.” Jungkook said automatically, barely glancing at me and instead reaching for the backpack. He directed me to the stairwell on the side, the one that led straight down to the ground floor and out into the gardens. He went in first and I followed him, climbing down carefully.
I sighed, taking in the mouth watering width of his shoulders, encased in a perfectly fitted jacket. He looked so handsome I wanted to cry. And although he’d been here for a whole week month now, I hadn’t managed to get into his good graces.
“What do I call you, then?” I made to hold his hand when we reached the end of the staircase but he shook my arm off at once.
Did I tell you that he really can’t stand me for some reason?
“As I’ve mentioned a dozen times already, Mr. Jeon would suffice.” He said shortly. He held the door leading out into the gardens open and I walked through.
“That makes you seem so old.” I grimaced, shaking my head and he gave me an amused look.
“I am 576 years old.” He deadpanned. The daycare cottage was just a five minute walk from the mansion and the pathway through the garden was absolutely beautiful, well lit and covered in the brightest flowers.
I waved off his excuse about his age.
“you don’t look a day over twenty five to me.” I said with a shrug. He shook his head, clearly too tired to carry the conversation on. We walked in silence and I felt incredibly content, just with him near.
And he was going to be by my side for the rest of our lives, I thought softly. I would make sure of it. I’d never felt this way about anyone. Jungkook was a good man , evident in literally everything he did. He was kind, an amazing father and such a gentleman that he made me melt.
Jungkook had been turned at the age of 35. And so he sailed through eternity with the gorgeous good looks of a mature , well kept man. His hair was thick, just a slight bit of grey peppering the edges and his features were sharp and well defined.
“Is Joowon in the daycare already?” I asked with a smile and he nodded curtly.
“He has Mr. Pepper with him. He refused to leave him behind. please just make sure he still has him with him when he leaves. He can’t fall asleep without the bunny “ He said softly and I felt my heart bloom ten sizes.
“Of course, I will -”
“Jungkook !!!” The shrill voice broke the stillness of the night like a hammer through a mirror.
I turned around with a frown only to be greeted by the sight of a very pretty, very tall vampire in a blood red bodycon dress and a neckline that plunged all the way to her belly button. She had ruby red lips, and well made eyes. Eyes that now flashed red , dilating as they ran up and down his body.
I felt myself clenching my fists.
“I’m getting late....we need to go, I grabbed his arm trying to tug him along but he didn’t budge. i glanced at his face and felt my heart shatter at the small smile playing around his lips.
“Helena..... Surprise seeing you here....” He drawled, voice so much deeper than usual and I bit my lips. They knew each other?
The vampire had reached us now and she gave me a disdainful smile.
“Who’s this?” She asked with a laugh, “ Are you babysitting now, Jeon?”
I bristled. To my utter chagrin, Jungkook laughed to.
“She’s the kid I’m watching. The Immortal human of the Hwang clan.” He intoned dully.
The lady’s brows went up in surprise.
“:The rumors are true, ....The Hwang clan’s hidden jewel.....with skin like the rarest pearl and eyes that steal souls. Fiercely guarded ...a beauty like no other.... I thought they were exaggerating, but I see they were not. . You’re exquisite.” She commented , seemingly genuine in the compliment as her eyes roved over my features.
“ Um.. thanks?” I shrugged, not particularly flattered by the extravagant description.
The poets in my clan tended to be a bit overdramatic at times.
. She laughed.
“Are you unavailable for the night, then Jeon?” She turned her flashing eyes on him .
My jaw nearly dropped.
Did this bitch really just proposition-
“Afraid so.... Raincheck?” Jungkook smiled wide and he looked so beautiful that I had to bit my lips to stop from moaning.
Helena waved softly, eyes shifting back to me.
“Be safe, little human. When the sun goes down, the ghouls come out to play.” She grinned wide, letting her fangs grow long, past her lower lip, eyes red and bloody.
I stared right back. She laughed and waved before floating away into the night.
Jungkook chuckled.
“You’re not intimidated by us, then.” He said mildly as we began walking again.
“I spent the entirety of my childhood playing with vampires. Do you really think they didn’t spend every waking hour trying to scare me to death?”
He gave me soft smile, and then went back to staring straight ahead.
I relaxed when the familiar cottage came into view, the sound of laughing kids reaching me.
I held my hand out for the backpack and Jungkook gave it to me.
“I’ll just check out the backyard and see if al the gates are secure and then I’ll be right outside the door, alright? Call out if you need me...” He said sharply
“Will you come even if I call you oppa?” I bit my lips, grinning and he flicked my nose.
“Behave.” He said shortly. I sighed.
“I’m not a kid, you know.” I said softly and he gave me a look.
“You are to me. Now get inside.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“There’s a monster behind the tree and I’m Hawkeye because I have the bow and arrow and Jieun is the princess.” Joowon said brightly, showing off the toy bow and arrow in his hand and I grinned, taking in his exquisite features. He looked strikingly like his father , except for the two adorable dimples that showed up everytime he smiled.
“That’s amazing... do you like fighting monsters?” I asked with a grin holding my arms out for him and he hugged me happily.
“Yes, I like fighting monsters and I like Mr. Pepper.” He waved the stuffed bunny in my face.
“Make sure you keep him safe, alright? “ I stroked the soft skin of the
“So what color does your daddy like?” I asked with a grin. I felt a sharp kick on my shin and I turned to my sister.
“Don’t use the fucking kid for your sinful aims, you dingbat!” She hissed and I glared at her.
“I did no such thing...I was just making conversation....” I hissed back.
“Dad likes black.” Joowon answered dutifully and I ruffled his hair. Jieun appeared then, having waited for her prince and gotten bored. She tugged on Joowon’s arm and I let him go, watching the two of them run off.
“Its only been a month, Sera.... I think you should tone down the infatuation. You know dad would never approve.” My sister said gently and I frowned.
“No he won’t, Dad loves me , he wants me to be happy.” I said shortly.
“Yes, but not with Jungkook. He’s a rogue vampire. He doesn’t have a clan. He has a kid ...”
“An angel of a kid...”
“he has a kid whose mother he had to kill because she was a bloodthirsty witch.”
i stared at my sister feeling anger build inside me.
“What does any of that have to do with how I feel about him?” I demanded , moving to stop one of the littles from tripping over a stray rubik’s cube.
“ You’re special. You’re being courted by some of the richest, most powerful vampires in the country and you want to go after the rogue , broke vampire who’s only here because he needs the money and the safety of our clan?”
“I’m not having this conversation with you.” I said firmly.
Somi sighed.
“I’m just saying. Don’t be so blatantly open about your feelings. You’ll be putting a target on Jungkook’s back.”
I exhaled sharply.
“If anyone tries to hurt him, they die.” I said softly.
Somi chuckled.
“I know.... but still, he’s not looking for trouble. Don’t bring it to his doorstep.”
I didn’t reply, moving quickly to the other side of the room.
the words left a bitter taste on my tongue.
Mostly because my sister was right.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i stared at the tall strapping vampire, trying to comprehend what I was hearing.
“What do you mean he isn’t here for the night?” I demanded.
“He’s a little tired. He told me had a little too much to drink and he wants to sleep it off. I’ll be here instead ... Just for tonight.” He tried to smile reassuringly and I was momentarily distracted by very deep dimples but I could feel myself fuming.
“and he didn’t think of saying that to me himself? He had to run off while i was closing up the cottage?” I glared.
The Vampire chuckled.
“He told me you might protest.”
“Of course i protest, I feel safer with him...” I said sharply.
The Vampire gave me a deep sigh.
“I’ve been doing this for three centuries, Miss Hwang. You’re definitely safe with me.” He bowed his head.
“What’s your name?” I demanded.
“Kim Namjoon.”
“Fine , Kim Namjoon ssi.... Let’s go. “
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Giving Namjoon the slip was a lot easier than I thought. I waited for him to greet my great uncle, and slipped between two waiters carrying blood cocktails and weaved into the crowd easily.
Jungkook’s bedroom was next to mine and it took me less than a minute to race up the stairs and to his room.
i banged on the door , determined to see for myself just how drunk he’d gotten.
The door opened and i took a deep breath.
“How dare you leave me-”
I froze when I realized that he was shirtless, fresh out of the shower. Water dripped down his torso , like little starbursts of liquid light and my mouth went dry. I swallowed, staring at the tightly packed abs, the dip of his v line as it disappeared into a fluffy white towel.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” He growled angrily.
My eyes flew to meet his and then my gaze caught something red on his bed and I peered over his shoulder.
Pain lanced through my heart so sharp that I felt like I’d taken a fucking brick to my chest.
The sight of Helena, naked except for a red bra, stretched out on his bed got burned into my brain and I choked.
“You-” I began but he grabbed my arm, so hard that I knew I would bruise. He yanked me away from the threshold of his room, dragging me to the middle of the hallway as he slammed the door to his room shut.
“Where the fuck is Namjoon?”
“You ditched me to get laid? “ I hissed in disbelief.
“I can’t fucking believe you’re doing this-”
“Is she your girlfriend-”
“Sera-” he shook me again but I refused to back down. I had to know.
“Are you in love with her?!!!” I demanded, my heart breaking .
Jungkook growled.
“It’s none of your damned business!!” He snapped angrily .
“It is !!” I said shrilly.
“Why on earth-”
“Because I’m in love with you!!” I shouted and he froze.
He let go of me like he’d been burned and stepped back, staring at me wide eyed,.
“What did you just say?” He demanded.
“I want you. I want you to court me-”
“Sera stop.” He said sharply
“I’m not joking...I like you and-”
“Shut up.” He growled, his voice shaking.
I swallowed.
“If you say something as asinine as that to me , ever again... I will make you regret it. ” He warned softly.
I felt my heart jerk in panic.
“Jungkook-”
“It’s Mr. Jeon to you!!!” He growled.
I bit my lips, staring at my feet.
“I’m going to pretend this never happened. You’re going to go to your room and wait for Namjoon. If anything like this ever happens again, I’m telling your father.”
I laughed bitterly.
“I’m not fucking twelve years old you son of a bitch. Stop talking to me like I’m your toy or something !” I snarled.
“If you were my toy I would fucking spank you till you cry and lock you in a damn room!” He hissed.
I flinched.
He took a deep shaky breath.
“This never happened.” He said sharply. “ I’m not one of your boytoys. I have no interest in fledgling humans who know nothing about life. That's not the kind of woman I’m looking for. You’re not the kind of woman I’m looking for because you aren’t even a woman yet.”
“ Jungkook !!!” Namjoon’s voice rang through the hallway and I stepped back.
“Have a good night with your whore, Mr. Jeon.” I snapped, before turning on my heel and leaving.

Purple and Yellow – j.oleksiak
• Jamie Oleksiak goes through heartbreak and challenges along with his daughter but then he meets a woman who seems to catch both their hearts •
a/n: ok this is NOT proof read at all I’m sorry but I knew if I went back and did that I’d end up hating it and not wanting to post it but I know y’all wanted it so here you go!
Word Count: 6.1k
Jamie knew he was going to Seattle, and he’d be lying if he said the proposition didn’t excite him, but once his name was inked on that paper, reality came crashing in. He had to up and move his daughter, she was only three, maybe it wouldn’t be that hard. But who was he kidding, everything is hard with a three year old. And how would he explain that they wouldn’t be able to visit mommy every weekend, just like they did every weekend since. That’s all that plagued his mind as he drove home from the airport, Ivy was waiting for him, but he knew she’d succumb to her sleepiness before he could get there. His parents already texting him with a picture of her half asleep on the couch.
Then, the cars on the other side of the road slammed on their brakes, the sound of tires spinning out made everything come rushing back.
“Is this the father of Ivy Oleksiak?” Jamie didn’t even have a chance to speak before the words came across the phone, “yes, who’s speaking?” Jamie replied, heart rate picking up at the soft sigh the woman let out. “Your daughter and Miss Cora Hadley were brought into Medical City from a car accident scene.” All she said were those words before he was rushing to his feet, “are they ok?” He asked quickly, never getting a pair of shoes on so quickly in his life. “Sir, I’m not–“ “Bullshit! Is my baby and my fiancé ok?” He snapped, based on the way she whimpered, a rather young woman on the other end of the line. “Your daughter will be fine, just some scratches, the car seat did it’s job.” She spoke slowly, her breath hitching. “I think it’s best you get here as quickly as possible.” She spoke carefully, and in that moment Jamie’s heart fell to his feet like an anchor, he could feel his stomach twisting and his eyes burning. He knew what those words meant. Then he thought of Ivy and that snapped him out of his daze, he had to get there, now.
Jamie pulled into his driveway safely this night, parking beside his parents car, a sigh escaping his lips, forcing the terrible memories from two and a half years ago away. He gathered his bags, and lugged them inside, smiling at his family all asleep in the living room. That made him forget that oh so familiar ache in his chest just a little bit more. He put his bags in the corner, those could wait, but right now all he needed was to hold his baby girl. He scooped Ivy up, smiling as she fluttered her eyes open just enough to see him. “Daddy.” She murmured, “hi bug.” He inhaled the scent of her toddler shampoo, his mom always taking care of her hair the best, brushing the detangler through the unruly hair she got from her father. “Sleep with you.” Ivy whined when he started heading for her room, normally he didn’t give in, not wanting her to be dependent on him to sleep, but he needed her tonight too. “Just tonight princess.” He gave in, bringing her to his room with him, where she fell asleep instantly when he placed her on the plush bed.
Jamie laid awake, staring at the ceiling for a little while, thinking of how he would tell Ivy about having to move. “I hope you’re proud of me.” He whispered out, his tears staying pooled in his eyes as he forced himself to calm down. “Sleep daddy.” Ivy complained, nuzzling closer to him. “Hold me.”
“Jamie.” Cora whispered, hoping he was awake despite the late hour, he grunted in response, being a light sleeper ever since he found out Cora was pregnant. “Hold me.” She demanded with a light tone, her back aching and stomach bulging as Ivy kicked around in there. Jamie blindly opened his arms for her, letting her settle into his chest. “Always.” He murmured, already half asleep as she sighed in content.
“Come here baby girl.” Jamie murmured at Ivy, letting her rest her head upon his chest, Ivy was a very cuddly little girl, the second she was comfortable with you, she’d be sitting in your lap and telling you stories and anything to be touching you. It was one of Jamie’s favorite things, especially when he came home from a roadie and all she wanted was to be held by him.
***
“Daddy!” Ivy called, she managed to climb onto the bathroom counter to brush her teeth but now she was too scared to get down, “daddy!” She shrieked again, Jamie’s eyes fluttered open as he quickly took in his surroundings, “daddy, I stuck!” Ivy called, this time sounding annoyed by his lack of response. He threw the blanket off as he knew where she was stuck, this was a common occurrence. He appeared in the bathroom doorway, arms crossed over his chest, “and just what do you think you’re doing?” Jamie asked his daughter as she made grabby hands for him, she grinned brightly at him, “I brushed my teeth!” She answered in a duh tone, she grabbed his face once he scooped her up, kissing the tip of his nose, and he the same to her, “I’m very happy you brushed your teeth, Ivy, but you know you’re not supposed to get on the counter, that’s why we got you a stool, remember?” He explained, for easily the tenth time in the past month. “I know.” She huffed, dramatically pushing her hair back, making Jamie chuckle as he walked down the stairs, hearing his parents talking in the kitchen.
“Well, good morning sleepy heads.” Alison teased as Ivy gasped at the sight of pancakes on the counter, Jamie shook his head with a smile, placing her on the seat beside his dad, “I’ll make you a special plate.” Richard quipped to the little girl, which really just meant drawing a smiley face on it with whip cream. “Thanks mom.” Jamie gave his mom a kiss on the cheek before shuffling around to get his coffee, desperately needing the sleep kicked out of his system. “When are you going to tell her?” Alison asked, taking a small bite of her food, giving her son the side eye when he hesitated. “Today.” He gave in, knowing he absolutely had to start packing now, otherwise it would never be done in time. “So, Ivy, do you have any plans for today?” Alison shifted her attention to her granddaughter, figuring they could take her out to do something so he could get more done. “Gonna go see momma!” She cheered, some syrup smeared around her mouth.
Jamie froze, it was Saturday already, he checked his phone and felt humiliated that he had forgotten his promise to take Ivy to the cemetery. Evidently the panic was written across his face when both his parents stared at him. “Why don’t grandma and I bring you? We haven’t been there in a while.” Richard offered, rubbing Ivy’s back when she looked to Jamie for permission. “I think that would be nice, right baby?” Jamie finally found his voice, and Ivy nodded brightly, anytime she got with her grandparents was cherished. “Daddy coming to?” She asked, tilting her head as he sipped on his coffee, “I’ve got some work to do, alright, I’ll go next time.” He assured her, shooting his dad a thankful look as he quickly changed the subject before she could pester on any further.
“Ivy, I need to talk to you.” Jamie announced, he couldn’t wait any longer, he had to do it and be done. Alison nearly choked on her coffee and Richard looked at his empty plate like it was suddenly the most interesting thing. Ivy nodded, munching away on her pancakes, not understanding the severity of what was about to be said.
Jamie cleared his throat and pulled out the chair beside her, “you know how I had to go away to this new place for work, yeah?” He reminded her, “Seattle.” He said, and she nodded, “Seattle.” She repeated, not entirely perfect but good enough. “I got a job over there.” He spoke, waiting to see what she thought. “Hockey?” She asked, confusion lacing her tone. “Yes, still hockey.” Jamie chuckled softly, “it’s with a new team.” He paused, glancing away for a second, “we have to move there.” He concluded. Ivy nodded slowly, “new house?” She asked, she might be young, but she knew that moving meant not in this house. “Yeah, new house, new city, new people.” Jamie explained, panicking when she went wide eyed, “what about uncle Ro-Ro?” Ivy asked, referring to Miro, she was closest to the young defenseman as she always saw him beside her dad on the ice. The nickname had been dubbed upon him when she was learning to speak and liked to repeat things. “We can visit, baby.” Jamie spoke softly, heart breaking as she began to sniffle. He could practically see the wheels turning in her head, he knew the realization was coming. “But Momma!” She sobbed.
And that completely shattered his heart.
“I know.” He picked her up, feeling her sob into his neck, “momma.” She whimpered, though she didn’t remember her, Jamie made sure to keep her an important part of her life. Ivy didn’t know that she loved going to a gravestone that much until this moment. “Hey, look at me, bug.” Jamie demanded gently, situating her to be in front of him. He sat her on the countertop and stood in front of her, “momma will always be with us, right? Isn’t that what I always say?” He explained to her. Ivy nodded slowly, she was so young but always acting older, trying to wrap her head around this. “Yeah.” She mumbled sheepishly, cheeks red and eyes puffy, she felt shy under the gaze of her grandparents. “It’s alright, daddy’s sad too.” He assured her, lowering his head to be eye level with her. She stared into his eyes, reminding him so much of Cora in that moment, and once again she kissed the tip of his nose. “No sad daddy.” She demanded, drumming her fingers on his cheek. He pecked her forehead, “alright baby.” He agreed, if she could do it, so could he, right?
***
Ivy slept the whole plane ride, which is what Jamie was hoping for as they would be meeting the moving truck at the new house, plenty of things to be done asap.
“Come on Ivy.” Jamie mumbled, carrying her off the plane as she groggily woke up, looking around slightly confused until she remembered what was going on today. “Daddy, Seattle?” She asked, lifting her head from his shoulder, he chuckled, lowering her so she wasn’t so high up on his chest. “Yeah, Seattle baby.” He assured her, her pigtails bouncing as she looked around rapidly. He smiled at her reaction to the airport alone.
“What do you think, Ivy?” Jamie asked, raising his eyebrows as the three year old spun to face him. “Love it!” She squealed, her room was twice as big in this place than her bedroom in Dallas, and Jamie told her she could pick whatever color (within reason) to have her walls painted. Of course she would love it here. Jamie looked around their new-but-empty-house one more time, sighing as he could picture Ivy growing older in this house.
Time to make it a home.
“Hi.” Ivy grinned up at one of the movers as he placed a stack of boxes in her room, Jamie just being outside the door heard her speaking, he raised an eyebrow waiting to hear the guy speak. “Hello.” The young guy spoke sweetly, chuckling at the little girl. “I’m three.” She spoke, “how old are you?” She asked, Jamie held in a snicker as he walked in. “Ivy, leave him alone, bug.” He laughed softly, the guy taking it as his excuse to go get more boxes. “Ugh.” She huffed, flopping down on her bed dramatically, Jamie rolled his eyes, looking around. “What color do you want?” He asked the opinionated little girl, he sat beside her, smiling as she stood next to him, being eye level with him. “Hmm, purple!” She gasped, looking around the currently beige room, Jamie nodded slowly, “light purple.” He countered, knowing she would want to choose the darkest shade. “Fine.” She giggled, “we can go tomorrow, alright? Today we need to focus on finding all your stuff.” He tickled her sides.
***
Ivy was tugging on Jamie’s hand, somehow spotting the paint section quicker than he could. “Slow down!” He laughed heartily, his daughter shooting him a glare as he purposely slowed his feet down. He hoisted Ivy up to see the purple swatches along the top row, she reached for a dark one, just like Jamie knew she would. He sighed, “Ivy, we agreed on light purple, what about this one?” He offered, grabbing a lavender type color, she grunted in disgust, shaking her head dramatically, her blonde curls hitting his face. “Love this one.” She pouted, holding it in front of his face.
Jamie held in a sigh as you walked past him, stopping to look at paint swatches as well. “What about this one?” Jamie compromised, it was darker than he wanted to go, but still light enough to not feel like a dungeon. Ivy’s lip began to quiver, quickly catching both Jamie and the woman’s attention. “Ivy.” Jamie sighed softly, you intervened, “you know, I wanted a dark purple room when I was your age too.” You spoke to Ivy, catching her attention as she lifted her head, Jamie shifting slightly, giving you a smile. “My dad wouldn’t let me do it.” You made a face, getting a giggle out of Ivy, “he was right though, but guess what we compromised?” You mused, holding your hand out for the paint swatches that Jamie had. He handed them over with ease, “we painted one wall, dark, the wall I had my bed on, and the rest we did light.” You explained, Jamie giving Ivy a bright smile when she looked at him like it was the greatest idea ever. “We can do that, Ivy.” He agreed, and you giggled, “glad I could be of help.” You added.
“Thank you,” Jamie paused, waiting for a name. “Y/N.” You told him, smiling at the pair, “and your name is?” You asked, already figuring the little girl's name was Ivy. “Jamie.” He introduced himself. “What are you painting?” Ivy asked boldly, not one to talk much around new people, Jamie set her down so she could look at other colors, amused by her sudden interest. “I’m painting my dining room.” You answered, squatting down to her level, “do you have any color suggestions?” You asked Ivy. Jamie gave you a look that said you really don’t have to entertain her but you just gave him a smile. “Yellow.” Ivy announced, looking at the wall and grabbing actually, a very nice swatch, it was just yellow enough. You tilted your head as you looked at it, imagining it in your space. “That’s a very pretty color, Ivy.” You told her, smiling brightly as she blushed, handing you the color sample. “Thank you, Y/N.” She spoke politely, even though the words didn’t come out perfectly, it was a great attempt. “You’re welcome.” You stood to your full height, shocking Jamie by walking over to the counter to order the paint, no hesitation that a random little girl picked it out.
“You don’t have to-“ Jamie started to say, but you shrugged, giving him a happy smile, “I just got a new place, a fresh start, yellow seems fitting.” You told him. Jamie gave you a lopsided smile, if only you knew he was doing the same. “Daddy, this ones.” Ivy gasped, giving him two swatches, he chuckled at her grammar, squatting down to her level, “you’re sure?” He asked, he knew after all it was just paint, and if it turned out so terrible, they could paint over it but he didn’t want to have to do this twice. “This one looks like momma's dress!” Ivy explained, Jamie looked at the dark purple in his hand, instantly remembering Cora in that dress, Ivy’s favorite picture of her that she kept in her room. Suddenly her color choice made sense, you couldn’t help but eavesdrop, your heart stopping at Jamie’s next words. “Yeah, I think momma would have loved this.”
Was she… dead? You tried to knock the thought from your head, they were so young, but you knew accidents happened. You quickly looked away as Jamie stood back up, “here you go ma’am.” The teenager behind the counter spoke, you took the gallon from him, shooting him a smile. “Have a good day.” You told him, offering Jamie and Ivy a wave. “Will I see you again?” Ivy asked, Jamie nearly had heart failure right there as you stopped and giggled. “Oh I don’t know sweetheart, Seattle is a really big city. But don’t you worry, if I ever see you out and about I’ll be sure to say hello.” You assured her, watching as she got all giddy and slightly hid behind her father again. “Bye.” You told him, biting the inside of your cheek to keep from smiling any wider. “Bye, Y/N.” He mumbled, seeming a little dazed as he made his way up to the counter.
***
It had been nearly a week in the new house, the walls were done, almost everything was unpacked and they were starting to feel a sense of normalcy. Jamie loved the neighborhood they ended up in, a true mix of all different people, yes their house was rather large, but it was still homey. The community was sprawling, having a little bit of everything, stand alone homes, townhomes, even some condos, there were plenty of kids around which made him feel good about his choice as he followed Ivy down the road as she rode her bike. “Slow down, Ivy.” Jamie cautioned as she was getting a good bit ahead of him, she huffed dramatically and slowed down, waiting for him to catch up. She was looking around at the houses, confused as to why they were attached, even though Jamie had explained it to her plenty of times. Ivy gasped so loudly, that you could hear it from your front lawn where you were spray painting a piece of furniture. You glanced over and did a double take.
There was absolutely no way, you refused to believe you were actually seeing this, then you saw Jamie and you were convinced the universe either loved you for letting you see him again, or hated you, as you were in ratty old painting clothes.
“Ivy!” You grinned, laughing when the little girl flew off her bike, letting it fall sideways, making Jamie groan, “hi Y/N!” She squealed running up your lawn. You smiled brightly as she hugged your leg, “Ivy.” Jamie called, giving you an apologetic smile but you shrugged it off. “Did you paint your room?” You asked the little girl as she pulled away, a pink tint to her cheeks, she nodded, her blonde curls bouncing in her ponytail. “Yay, that’s great!” You cheered, Jamie walked up behind her, “hi, Y/N. How are you?” He asked, his daughter leaning back against his legs as you two spoke. “Good, been busy making this place my own.” You laughed, motioning to the small townhome behind you. It was your first solo place, and you absolutely adored it, even if it needed some work. “Yeah, you always forget how much work it is moving into a new place.” He agreed, chuckling softly. “Did you do yellow?” Ivy asked, rocking on her feet. “I did.” You assured her, “would you two like to go in and see it?” You asked, cringing internally as you waited to look up at Jamie. “Sure.” He answered, grabbing his daughter's hand, following you inside.
You led them to the dining room, giggling as Ivy gasped, “so pretty!” She cheered, the yellow paid off, it made the space feel much more happy. “All because of you.” You told her, she asked if she could look at the pictures you had sitting on the entry table and you gave her a quick nod, giving you and Jamie a chance to talk. “Same neighborhood? If I didn’t know any better I’d think you were stalking me.” You teased him lightly, getting a hearty chuckle out of him. “It is quite the coincidence.” He agreed, he felt butterflies in his stomach for the first time since he had met Cora.
It absolutely terrified him.
***
It had been a few weeks since that day, and you’d seen Ivy outside playing with another woman, Jamie not to be seen. You came out to grab your mail as she went riding by, “hi, Y/N!” She called, continuing to pedal away. “Hi, Ivy.” You spoke, you went over and introduced yourself to the girl, Taylor, finding out she was her babysitter. “Jamie must go out pretty often.” You commented to her, she shook her head, “oh no, he never goes anywhere without Ivy aside from work.” Taylor told you, “he plays hockey, I'm surprised you didn’t know that.” Taylor added, smiling as Ivy came up to the two of you. “We should be going, it’s almost dinner time.” Taylor spoke, she couldn’t be older than 20. You gave them both a smile, “yes! You don’t want to miss that.” You chuckled, bidding them a goodbye before going inside and googling Jamie.
What you found shocked you.
Jamie Oleksiak taking personal time to mourn loss of fiancé.
Jamie Oleksiak, will he be able to balance a professional career and a baby?
Will he bounce back from this?
You clicked the first article, bracing yourself as it loaded.
The date was from almost three years ago, you scrolled down and began to read…
Jamie Oleksiak has announced the sudden passing of his fiancé, Cora Hadley. Together they shared a daughter Ivy, who was also involved in the incident, she is expected to make a complete recovery.
A close friend tells us it was a severe car accident.
Our condolences to the family.
You clicked away from the article as tears burned your eyes. That was terrible. You read some of the other articles and only grew mad at how the reporters belittled his pain, only talking of how poorly his game play had been since then. And though you’d never wish that kind of loss on anyone, you know they wouldn’t be writing like that if they had felt it.
***
You and Jamie exchanged numbers, citing that it was for “neighborhood emergencies” you giggled at the thought as he was currently asking you what he should get Cora for the upcoming Christmas.
She’s the pickiest three year old ever, everyone always tells me that.
Well, what does the pickiest three year old ever like to do?
She’s either riding her bike and getting absolutely filthy or she’s inside playing dress up and being a little princess
Princess car?
They make those?!?
Oh, Jamie, I really need to take you shopping 🤦♀️
Tell me when and I’ll be there…
You tell me hot shot, you’re the one that plays hockey for a living.
How did you find out?
Google is a powerful thing… just kidding, Taylor told me.
Of course she did
Saturday afternoon? My parents will be in town and they want to take Ivy out for the day, so it’s a perfect excuse.
You know where I live, see you then!
He started typing, but then the dots went away and you never received another message.
You brushed it off, feeling butterflies in your stomach for the first time in years as you thought of merely shopping with Jamie for Christmas.
****
“You like him!” Your friend gushed to you as you spoke on the phone while getting ready, “no!” You rushed, only proving her point more. “Y/N, really.” Your friend, Amanda, spoke. “There’s nothing wrong with that, he’s clearly attractive and he’s a dad! He’s not going to be a jerk that just messed around with girls! It’s great.” She rambled, you sighed, pulling your jeans on with a little jump, “his fiancé died, Amanda. He could very well not be over that yet, and I wouldn’t blame him.” You explained, she went silent, “well you left that part out, how was I supposed to know.” She mumbled sheepishly. “It was almost three years ago, their baby was only six months old.” You whispered, cursing when your doorbell rang down the stairs. “Shit, shit, I have to go Amanda!” You rushed, hanging up as soon as she said bye. You adjusted the sweater you had on as you rushed down the stairs, careful not to fall flat on your face. You grabbed your purse as you walked past the counter, yelping as you stumbled and landed on your butt. So close.
“Y/N? Are you alright?” Jamie called, hearing the thud, “yes, yeah, just a second.” You called out, wincing as you stood up, that was definitely going to hurt later. You finally, finally reached the door and unlocked it, pulling it open and giving him a bright smile. “Did you fall?” He asked instantly, bursting into laughter when your face went blank. “We’re not going to talk about that Jamie.” You chastised, stepping onto your little porch to leave with him. “Sorry, sorry.” He chuckled, giving you a once over as you locked the door. “Is Ivy excited to be with your parents today?” You asked him, Jamie laughed under his breath, “so excited, she didn’t even care that I was going out.” He told you as he opened the passenger side door of his truck for you. “Thanks.” You mumbled as you slid in, your heart pounding in your chest. He shut the door and made his way around the truck as you adjusted in the seat.
“So, where to?”
****
Jamie was shocked and grimacing at the price of the princess car that he and you both knew Ivy would love. “Is she the type to give up on new toys quickly?” You asked, tilting your head as you both stared at the display, he shook his head as gave in. He had been leaning against the shelves and as he walked away you noticed his phone had fallen out of his pocket, you picked it up so no one would steal it as you waited for him to come back with a cart, and hopefully someone to help him with the box because it was not something you’d be much help with. His phone began to ring in your hand, the contact flashing across the top said mom, you let it ring, you’d tell him as soon as he came back. As soon as it stopped it was ringing again, you panicked and swiped to answer it, worried that something had happened to Ivy. “Hello?” You spoke into the phone, hearing Ivy wailing in the background. Fuck.
“Who is this?” His mother rushed, “I’m Y/N, Jamie forgot his phone he’s walking around the store– is everything alright?” You asked, cutting straight to the point, “no, we’re going to the emergency room, Ivy fell at the park and I think she broke her arm.” His mother rushed, and thankfully you saw Jamie approaching, “Jamie!” You shouted, rushing over, he furrowed his eyebrows seeing you on his phone.
“It’s your mom.” You rushed, giving it to him and you could see the wheels turning in his head as he listened to her speak over Ivy crying. “Shit, alright I’ll meet you there.” He told her, shooting you an apologetic look. “Go.” You assured him, he shook his head grabbing your hand and pulling you along, he wasn’t going to leave you stranded in a department store. “Sorry, he’ll purchase it another day!” You called to the employee who had a blank look on his face. “Let me talk to Ivy.” Jamie demanded after his mom had said something else, “daddy, it hurts!” Ivy got out between cries as his mother held the phone to her ear. “I know, princess. I’ll be there soon alright? I promise.” He assured her, finally releasing your hand as he realized he’d been holding it this whole time.
He managed to get off the phone so he could drive to the hospital, repeatedly apologizing for you being stuck with him and that this happened. “I was going to take you to lunch and ugh I’m just sorry.” You raised an eyebrow at his ramblings as you guys got stuck at a red light less than a mile from the hospital. “Jamie, stop apologizing. She’s your daughter, she always comes first, that’s how it’s supposed to be.” You soothed him, he glanced over at you, nodding softly, “reschedule the lunch?” He asked, despite the panic in his head, he still wanted to make sure you saw that he was interested in you.
“Yeah, we can reschedule, let’s just go see your baby.” You leaned over the center console, kissing his cheek as the light changed, doing a little happy dance in your head at how he blushed deeply at your actions.
“Family only.” The nurse remarked as you were about to follow Jamie to the room Ivy was in. He gave her an incredulous look, “it’s fine, go.” You assured him, pulling away from him to stay in the waiting room. He hesitated but went along, disappearing behind the doors as you picked a seat in the corner, making sure you had a sight line to the doors he went through. Over an hour went by as you sat there, scrolling through your phone, not hearing from Jamie, which you assumed was because he was being bombarded with questions of the girl who answered his phone, while also dealing with Ivy who was not going to enjoy the process of getting a cast.
Your phone chimed with a text just as you had finally decided to get off of it,
Finishing up now, sorry if my parents are a lot
You chuckled at the message, making sure you had all your items, including the little stuffy you’d bought at the hospital gift shop during your time sitting here. You stood up as you saw them walking out, Ivy draped over Jamie’s chest, half asleep with her head on his shoulder. “Y/N, it’s so nice to meet you.” His mom spoke, offering her hand, you repeated the sentiment, as well as with his dad. “Ivy.” You whispered, placing a hand on her back, holding the small stuffed animal in your hand, “I got you a little gift for being such a big brave girl.” You mumbled, she shifted to look at you with her puffy eyes, and pout settled deep on her lips, “thanks.” She whispered, taking it and holding it close to her chest, she kept her eyes on you as you walked behind Jamie, keeping up a conversation with his parents. And he was right, they were kind of a lot, but you pushed through, smiling when Ivy finally fell asleep in the car.
You sat in the back with Ivy, Jamie insisting you didn’t have to but you wanted to. “She handled it pretty well.” Jamie commented as he glanced back to see her asleep with her hand in yours. “She’s a tough little thing.” You agreed, glancing over at him, he gave you a heartwarming smile. “Thanks for coming with me today, I know it didn’t go to plan, but it was nice, you know… before she broke her arm.” He trailed off, pulling into your driveway to drop you off. You carefully pulled your hand from Ivy’s, she didn’t budge as she was exhausted from today.
Jamie got out to say goodbye, surprising you with a quick kiss to the cheek and a promise of that lunch date.
***
“Did some research?” You asked teasingly as Jamie took you to your favorite restaurant, you gave him a sideways glance as he parked the truck, “I may have had some assistance.” He shrugged, making you realize that’s why Ivy was grilling you the other day, when you had offered to watch her since Taylor was unavailable. “You two are trouble.” You quipped, watching him slip out wordlessly before opening your door for you. “But I’m a gentleman.” He reminded you, “a very good one at that.” You agreed, steadying yourself with his shoulders when you hoped down. “I’m going to kiss you now.” He declared, had you not wanted to kiss him so badly you would have teased him for the nervousness in his voice, but you simply looped your arms around his neck and let him sweep you off your feet with a wonderful first kiss.
The first of many.
***
Two months, and many, many, sneaky dates and stolen kisses later…
You were over at Jamie’s house, having dinner with him and Ivy, you and Jamie had gone out here and there, but most of your time was spent together with Ivy, and that’s what told him that you were the girl he needed to hang on to. Jamie wanted to take tonight to explain to Ivy that you two were dating, but he was scared, petrified even, that she would become upset and confused. You kept telling him nothing had to be done yet if he wasn’t ready, but he was, he swore he was.
“What’s your favorite color?” You asked Ivy, dinner was long gone and you were playing a game of twenty questions, she wasn’t entirely aware of that but she was having fun nonetheless. “Purple! Like my mommas.” She declared, you gave her a smile, glancing over at Jamie to see how he handled it. Many conversations had happened between you two about the loss of Cora, you never wanted to rush him, and as he only gave Ivy a proud smile, you could tell he was truly ready to start the next chapter of his life again. You liked to think Cora was proud of him, for choosing you to be in their life.
“What’s yours?” Ivy countered back, giving you an inquisitive look, the closer she got to age four, the more like Jamie she seemed, and it always made you chuckle. “Yellow.” You told her, watching as she grinned, Jamie winked at you as you turned sheepish under their gaze. “Because of me?” Ivy gasped. “Yes, because of you.” You giggled, welcoming her hug when she bounced over to you. “Ivy, do you know what it means when people are dating?” Jamie asked his daughter as she stayed seated on your lap, she rested her elbows on the table, holding her head in her hands. “No but you said I’m not allowed to do that.” She spoke in a serious tone, sending you into a hysterical fit of laughter, not expecting her to be so blunt. Jamie tried not to but he joined you with a deep laugh, tipping his head back as Ivy grew impatient. “Ok, besides that.” Jamie cleared his throat, “when I say I’m dating someone that means that I really really like them and I want them to be part of our life.” He explained as best he could, you smiled from behind her at his words. Encouraging him to go on.
“Y/N and I are dating.” He spoke officially, you both held your breath as you waited for her reaction, she turned and looked at you, and then back to her dad. “You love her!” Ivy grinned, sending Jamie wide eyed and you into a wide smile as he blushed, “you love my daddy!” Ivy gasped turning to you, now he was the one grinning as you opened and closed your mouth trying to find the words to say. You gave her a nod, “well, it’s a bit more complicated than that when you’re our age, but yes.” You agreed with her, Jamie grabbed your hand from across the table, giving it a squeeze as Ivy climbed off your lap and started dancing around.
This had gone so much better than he had hoped.
When he was tucking her in that night while you were waiting for him on the couch, she said a few words that made him one hundred percent sure that everything was going the way it should, and that Cora even played a hand in this. “Can I have two favorite colors daddy?” Ivy asked, looking up at him sleepily as he pulled the blanket up her body, she was clinging to the stuffy you’d bought her. “Of course, bug.” He assured her, thinking that was that, but as he kissed her forehead she said, “purple and yellow are my favorites.” By the time he pulled his head back, her eyes were shut and her breathing was evening out. “Yeah, I think those are my favorites too.” He whispered.

Cutie Pie (Christen x Reader)
Request: christen x reader one? Maybe where the reader has a child (1-2 years old) and the Team doesn't know. Reader and her child are at a game right behind the bench and the kid accidentally drops his paci down to the bench and the teammates there interact with them without knowing that it's christens girl? Reader also is really tall and fit and a tomboy!
“Alright half-pint, you ready for this?” You asked the little girl in your arms, bouncing her just a touch as you stepped through the stadium gates.
“Yeah, Mama!!!” She cheered around her pacifier, staring around the stadium in awe and wiggling excitedly.
You were happy that she loved coming to games so much, as they were kinda a big part of your life. You weren’t quite sure what you would do if she didn’t. She was your soul and a certain soccer player had your heart, and you were glad that you didn’t have to choose between the two.
You smiled indulgently down at her and kissed her slightly chubby cheeks. “I’m glad baby,”
She wiggled again, her little bounces getting more and more wild with every step you took in the stadium. You hadn’t really planned on having Riley, but now you couldn’t imagine your life without her and her wonder at everything around the two of you.
“Chris?” She asked as you passed a giant poster of the national team, pointing towards where your favorite forward’s blinding smile was blown up 100 times its normal size.
You would be forever grateful for how amazing your girlfriend was with your daughter.
She came into your life nearly a year and a half ago, and you had been extremely reluctant to introduce her to your 6 month old (You didn’t want either of them to get attached before you knew it would work out), but Christen took the role of parent very seriously. She treated your little girl like she was her own, and the two had an unbearable bond. You knew that even if things didn’t work out the way you wanted them to, Riley would always have a friend in the forward.
“You bet. I’m sure she’s super excited to see you!” You said, glancing down at your ticket to and looking for the right section, navigating through the crowd without issue (something you were used to considering how private you and Chris were about your relationship, the only person on the team who knew about you was Tobin).
“She score?” Riley questioned, her pacifier bobbing adorably in her mouth and her little eyebrows furrowing.
“I’m sure she will, just for you kiddo,” You smiled, blowing a raspberry into the little girl's neck, and earning a giggle. “Now, do you think you can help me count the rows so we can get to our seats?” You asked as you passed under the sign with your section number and the pitch came into view.
Riley nodded, puffing her little chest up. She may only be 2, but you and Christen had been working hard on her colors and numbers. She still needed help, but she was super smart for her age.
“Alrighty then baby, let’s go,”
*****
The team wasn’t usually this distracted. They were a group of highly competitive women who were at the top of their game, which meant that they could usually block out all of the noise from the stadium, even if it was just warmup. However, the cutest kid they had ever seen was sitting just behind the bench, being held by a very attractive lady.
“Oh my gosh, have you seen the little girl?” Kelley asked, slinging an arm around Christen and Tobin’s shoulders, nodding towards the toddler in the stands.
A gooey smile (something that didn’t go unnoticed by Tobin) broke across Christen’s face the second she saw her two favorite people. She noted how you had dressed the little one in the jersey she had gotten her for Christmas, a bold 23 visible every time she flashed her back towards the field. There was just something about having a part of herself visible (something tangible) on the girl she thought of as a daughter. “Yes, she’s absolutely adorable in that jersey,”
She wiggled her fingers at the little girl who squealed excitedly and waved back. Her mom wrapped a protective arm around her belly to prevent her from accidentally wiggling under the guardrail.
“Too bad it’s got Press’ number on it” Megan laughed, wrapping her arm around Christen’s other side, nudging the woman’s ribs. Christen rolled her eyes and shot the little girl another little wave, giggling when she bounced wildly in her mother’s arms (Christen might have also greatly appreciated the way the girl's reaction forced you to flex to prevent her from falling).
“And her mom doesn’t look too bad either,” Ashlyn added, wiggling her eyebrows.
The woman behind the little girl was tall, and the black ink that swirled up her arms only served to make her muscles more visible (Christen would call her drool-worthy after she finally told the team she was dating her).
“You’re married, remember?” Ali grumbled, slapping her wife in the stomach.
“Yeah, but If I wasn’t…” Ashlyn shrugged, cackling when Ali hit her harder. Christen frowned, suppressing a sneer. You were hers, even if the team didn’t know yet.
Tobin smirked, gently grabbing her training outfit to prevent her from moving forward. “Come on, you can go flirt later. We have to get changed for the game,” She laughed towards Ashlyn, subtly pulling Christen towards the tunnel.
The rest of the group laughed and followed after them. There would be plenty of time to say hi to the small child later after they had won.
The forwards still sent another small wave towards the toddler clearly frowning now that her favorite person was walking away (she also may have winked your way just for kicks).
*****
You could tell that Riley was having a blast. Her little hands wrapped around the bars of the railing so she could be as close to the action as possible. She waved to every player as they passed her (no matter how many times they did) and giggled exuberantly every time they waved back.
It seemed that the team on the bench was far more interested in making your little girl laugh than watching the game (and you could only imagine how it would be when they finally realized that one of their teammates was basically her second mom).
“Babe, you gotta stay a little away from the edge alright?” You said softly, tapping her shoulder when her little head went just a little too far through the bars.
She definitely had your tendency to get in over her head. She ignored you, too enamored by Christen darting down the field, and shooting the ball. It sailed right past the goalie’s hands and before you could grab your little one she was leaping up and down, head still through the bars screaming “Goal!!” as loud as she could around the pacifier. But her enthusiasm caused the small object to fall out of her mouth.
“Uh oh,” Riley said, turning to you, her bottom lip trembling.
You scooped her up, and she immediately nuzzled into your neck. “It’s ok babydoll,” you murmured into her hair, bouncing her and looking over the railing.
You leaned over the side, only to see one Kelley O’Hara holding your daughter's pacifier and rubbing her head. “Lose something?” She asked, quirking an eyebrow up at you.
“Sorry, she got a little excited,” You said blushing a little bit. A little smirk graced Kelley’s lips you looked absolutely adorable with some red in your cheeks and paired with the backward cap it made you practically irresistible.
“Don’t we all when Pressy scores a goal?” Megan winked up at you, wiggling her fingers at your little girl when she peeked up from your shoulder.
“That’s fair, but she’s a very big fan,” You smiled, bouncing the little girl in your arms and blowing a raspberry just under her chin.
“Well in that case, why don’t you two come down on the field? You know, so we can return this?” Ashlyn asked, grabbing the pacifier out of Kelley’s hand and jingling it a little.
“What do you think babydoll?” You whispered into your daughter’s ear, as she was suddenly too shy to look at the soccer players who she had been interacting with not even minutes ago.
“Wanna go,” she mumbled into your neck, just loud enough for the girls on the ground to hear. Kelley smiled wildly. “Well, little miss speaks after all!”
“Come to the stairs and we’ll get security to let you down. The games about to be over anyway,” Megan said, pointing towards where a little stairway was located.
You nodded and headed in that direction, unaware of Christen’s furrowed eyebrows on the field.
*****
“Oh my gosh, that kid is freaking adorable,” Alex said, trotting up beside Christen just as the final whistle blew. Christen turned towards where Alex was looking, awing at the sight before her.
Riley was shyly standing behind you, clutching the back of your tank top so tightly that it was pulling down the collar (simultaneously showing off some of the swirling lines she knew spread across the skin of your shoulders).
She would peek out to get a glance at one of the soccer players vying for her attention, and then tuck back into you the second she realized they were looking at her.
“Isn’t she?” Christen smiled so wide her cheeks hurt. She might not be biologically related to your daughter, but she was 100% her other mom. She loved that little girl so much it hurt (even when her pigtails were crooked- you were great at a lot of things but hair certainly wasn’t one).
“Your gooey is showing,” Tobin said, nudging the forward. Christen opened her mouth to respond but was cut of by a very excited squeal.
“Chris!!!” It yelled, just before a little body collided with the forward’s legs. She quickly bent down to lift the little girl up, throwing her in the air before allowing her to settle on her hip. “Missed you,”
“I missed you too babydoll,” Christen said into your daughter’s hair, holding her tight. She absolutely loved her job, but one major downside was that she couldn’t take you and Riley with her all of the time. At least she had Tobin to keep her up to date most of the time since you lived in Portland, but there was absolutely nothing like holding her two favorite people in person.
“You better at hair and clothes,” Riley mumbled into her neck, pulling back just a bit to wave her hand around her head. You tried. You really did, but there was a reason you always kept your hair short. You weren’t into bows and frilly things, but your little girl absolutely loved them. So you did your best and were very grateful that Christen was so good with that kind of stuff.
Christen threw her head back and laughed “I know baby,”. She rubbed Riley’s belly “Did you enjoy the game?”
“Yeah, you score goal for me and mama,” Riley cheered and kicked her leg as if recreating the goal. Christen laughed again and began walking in your direction. “That’s right. I scored just for my favorite girls,”
“Hey I scored too you know, and I want some baby bear hugs,” Tobin said, appearing over Christen’s shoulder.
Riley wiggled wildly in Christen’s arms, practically throwing herself at her favorite aunt. “Aunt Toby!!” She yelled as Tobin dramatically spun her in circles.
Christen watched the two with a wide smile, only looking away when she felt a presence beside her.
“Hey superstar, you looked amazing out there,” your smile was evident in your voice as you wrapped your arms around Christen’s waist from behind, kissing her ear and resting your head on her shoulder.
She signed happily and leaned back into you for a second, before spinning in your arms. “Hey darling,” she said, leaning up and placing a kiss on your lips.
“Wait, you know Christen?” A voice appeared very close to you, and you reluctantly pulled away from your girlfriend to look at one Kelley o’hara’s wide eyes.
“Well she’s my girlfriend, so yeah,” Christen shrugged, leaning up to kiss you again.
You hear Kelley and several other team members sputter, but you were far too preoccupied to actually care. That was until a little voice joined the mix.
You pulled away when you heard little feet approaching you, squatting down to catch your very excited little girl. You stood with her in your arms, unable to stop you smile when Christen wrapped her arms around the two of you.
“Yes baby?” Christen asked, running a hand down your daughters back to try and settle her excited wiggiling just a little.
“Mama, mommy, we go eat with aunt Toby?” Riley asked. And Christen’s sent her an indulgent smile blinking back tears (you were happy that Tobin was so accepting and great with your babygirl). Sure Christen might not have been biologically related to her, but Riley was 100% hers.

My Rapunzel | Professor!Dad!Tom fic
Summary: being a college professor means tom’s working from home in these difficult times, spending a lot more time with his angel of a daughter and his beautiful girlfriend, who by the way is definitely his favourite princess.
Word count - 6k
━━━━━━━━━♡♥♡━━━━━━━━━
Harrison paused right before he turned the handle on the door, turning to the girl with a sheepish, shy smile.
“Just a heads up, my best friend is probably teaching a class in here,” He warned. He’d told the girl before about how he lived with 3 of his friends, and one of them was a uni professor. So of course he’d be teaching from home in the current situation. “And, his daughter may also be running around somewhere.”
He noted the slightly surprised look that crossed her face. He’d tried to hold off bringing her to the apartment for as long as he could, specifically because he didn't know how she was with kids and he didn’t want to burden her with having to entertain Scarlett while they were meant to be hanging out.
Harrison absolutely adored Scarlett, he had from the day he met her and he never hesitated to help Tom out when he needed his help. But that didn’t mean she couldn’t be a handful at times, especially more recently when Tom hadn’t been able to give her his undivided attention.
He unlocked the door while making quiet conversation with the girl behind him, pushing on the wood and guiding her into the apartment.
Harrison knelt down on the hardwood floor in preparation for the incoming attack, hearing those tiny, sock covered feet padding towards him.
“Harrison!” she squealed, practically launching herself into his arms. He was happy to scoop her up, holding her against his chest with a smile. Her tiny arms wrapped around his neck, giving him a small hug as best she could.
The man noted the eerily quiet flat, worried that the girl had accidentally been left alone by her, at times, slightly irresponsible father.
Of course Harrison thought his best mate was an amazing dad, especially after he just had it dropped on him that he was a single father, but there were occasions where Tom did some pretty questionable and embarrassing things, the stories basically banned from being told within a 10 foot radius of the male.
“Where’s your dad, huh?” He gently pinched her cheek, making her giggle adorably and bury her face in his chest. He heard the quiet mumble, even if it was muffled by the material of his shirt.
“Working.”
Harrison rolled his eyes. “Is Uncle Harry home?”
She shook her head, looking over his shoulder at the pretty girl standing there awkwardly. Scarlett waved her little hand, flashing her a smile.
“Uncle Tuwaine?” He asked. She shook her head once again, finally receiving her wave back from the pretty woman. Harrison thought for a minute, deciding that he’d have to interrupt whatever Tom was doing to discuss this.
“You just take a seat, I’ll be back as soon as I can,” he promised the girl. He carried Scarlett into her dad’s bedroom, a swift knock on the door making Tom’s head shoot up. Thankfully, it didn’t look like Harrison was interrupting a class or anything, meaning that Tom had no way to deny him time to talk.
“Can we talk?” he asked, motioning to the toddler in his arms. Tom nodded, pressing a few keys before halting his movements at his computer as he gave his best friend his full attention.
“Go ahead.”
“I was kind of counting on you not to be teaching today,” he stated. “So, I brought a girl over and now-”
Tom interrupted. “Now you don’t want to watch Scarlett.”
Harrison felt bad. It’s not like it was her fault, Tom was simply just a workaholic who never knew when to stop and that oftentimes meant he had to get his friends or his family to babysit. There were many times where Harrison had wanted to physically hit some sense into Tom so he’d spend more time with his daughter.
Ever since he began working at home it’s gotten even worse for the poor girl. She can see Tom, but she can’t see Tom and sometimes all the girl wants is a cuddle from her dad. There’s been a lot more temper tantrums due to her not being able to get any love from her dad when she wants it.
“Look I’m sorry, but I’ve been watching her everyday this week,” he complained. Scarlett didn’t know where to look, watching them both as they conversed.
Tom didn’t know what to do. He knew he’d only get distracted if he let her stay with him, but he didn’t want to put any more responsibility on Harrison, cause it wasn’t like Lettie was his kid.
Safe to say he was torn.
“Y/N should be here soon, can’t you just watch her until then?” he begged. Tom knew it probably wasn’t Harrison that was the problem, it was his lady friend. His best friend would look after the tiny angel in a heartbeat. She clearly came over to get some private time with the man and he could tell she wasn’t exactly thrilled when she learned she’d have to babysit for a few hours.
“Fine, fine, but don’t expect us to be playing dolls with her or anything.”
Tom grinned widely, placing a sloppy kiss on his daughter’s cheek, playfully hitting Harrison’s arm. The girl giggled, tucking her head in her uncle's neck.
“You’re a lifesaver man,” he said. “I have a class soon but if i’m done early then I’ll take her off your hands.”
The younger male nodded, looking at the child in his arms with a small smile, the same as the one Tom had while watching his little creation simply exist; he was utterly in love with her.
“Are you ready to go and spend time with your uncle Haz, Lettie?”
She cheered, nodding her head rapidly. Tom looked at his best friend with a ‘see’ kind of look and the blonde simply rolled his eyes.
“Let’s go.”
»»——⍟——««
“Okay so, you just need to write that out. I’ll give you around twenty minutes and then we’ll move on. Is that okay?” He received a few nods from some of his different students, flashing them a smile as he checked the clock so he knew when to tell them to stop typing.
“Do any of you mind if I just nip out to grab a drink?” He once again received a few nods from more or less the same people as last time. He smiled, excusing himself and heading out of his bedroom to the kitchen.
On his way he walked past the living room, scoffing at the sight in front of him. Scarlett was falling asleep on the chair while the tv played some disney film she’d seen a hundred times, one that Tom knew she didn’t really like all too much.
But there on the couch was Harrison and the girl engaged in what looked like an intense liplock. Tom had a right to be angry, but he didn’t know if now was the time to say anything. The blonde was more or less already annoyed with his friend and he didn’t need to give him any more reason why he should be.
He cleared his throat, announcing his presence to the three in the room. His bub just looked up at him through her long lashes, rubbing her eyes tiredly. While Harrison and the mystery girl just stared at him.
“Really? While Scarlett’s in the room too.” Harrison didn’t try and defend himself, but the look on the girl sitting next to him’s face, told him everything he needed to know. The sleepy girl in the armchair didn’t even know what was going on, having just seen the angry look on her dad’s face and the sheepish one on her uncles.
“Come on, angel.” He carefully picked her up, her head tucking into his neck while he held her on his hip. She shifted in his arms, whining tiredly at all the sudden movement.
“Daddy.” Tom kissed her cheek, his feet taking him to the kitchen to get what he originally came for. He opened the fridge with his free hand, grabbing a water bottle for himself and placing it on the counter, before grabbing the juice he’d put in there earlier for Scarlett.
“Bub?” he asked. She slowly lifted her head, looking up at her dad with her large brown eyes, the same ones that resembled his. “Can you hold your juice for me?”
She held the sippy cup in both of her tiny hands, letting her dad carry her back to his room. He sighed when he closed the door, realising he’d have to have her with him during the rest of his class. He sat back down and it turned a few heads, the teens furrowing their eyebrows at the sudden sight of a young child in their professor’s camera view.
He placed the water bottle and juice on his desk, adjusting Scarlett on his knee so she was more comfortable.
“Is it okay if my daughter sits in for a bit everyone?” There was a chorus of agreement, some students cooing over the little girl sitting on their professors knee. Scarlett grew shy, tucking her head into her dad’s chest so they all couldn’t see her blushing face.
Tom smiled, hand coming up to hold her head to his chest. He mindlessly played with her curls while he explained how to get started or gave a bit of influence on what to put to some of them that were struggling.
Scarlett was beginning to get fidgety, her hands clutching at her dad’s shirt. Tom knew these were all signs of when she got sleepy, wanting to take a nap.
“You tired bub?” She nodded her head, tiredly rubbing her eyes with her fists. Tom kissed her head, grabbing a loose hairband from off his desk to tie her curls back.
Some of the girls in the class swooned when Tom started to brush the girls hair back with his fingers, tying it into a loose ponytail at the back of her head.
“Take a nap, s’okay.” She nodded, asking her dad to grab her teddy bear for her, the one she always seemed unable to fall asleep without. It was sitting on the end of Tom’s bed, the man easily reaching over the desk to grab it for her.
She happily clutched it to her chest, snuggling further into her dad’s warm chest. He placed a quick kiss on her hair as he watched her eyes flutter shut, a small smile lingering on his lips.
“Ten more minutes everyone.” His hand was still resting against Scarlett’s head, his thumb rubbing the area of her temple gently. People had begun finishing, starting to ask Tom the most random questions about Lettie and more specifically why they’d never met her before. “She’ll have to join us more often then.” He placed a quick kiss on her head before announcing he was going to end the lesson early, let his students go do whatever they wanted for the rest of their afternoon.
“Have fun, goodbye all.” With a wave and a few clicks of his mouse, the call had ended. Tom sighed, watching as people began handing in the essays they’d just been working on, the ones that Tom needed to grade and give improvements on before Friday, today was only Tuesday.
Tom’s phone suddenly pinged with a text notification, making him startle for a second, the man reaching over to grab it to see your contact name lighting up his screen.
Chinese for dinner? Can pick it up later on my way back x
Yes please, you’re a delight love x
He smiled as he set his phone back down, planning on finishing marking the rest of his class’ work before he finished for the day. Now you and Tom didn’t actually live together, yet, but you often stayed over to help with anything, including the toddler you adored.
Scarlett was still pleasantly sleeping in her dad’s lap, for how much longer he didn’t know, but her breathing was steady and even, as she dreamed about whatever three year old’s dreamt about.
She eventually shifted a little while later, letting out an adorable tired sound from the back of her throat as she stretched with a sleepy yawn.
“Hi dove, did you sleep okay?” He brushed some stray hair out of her face, letting her take a minute to wake herself up. She eventually nodded her head, letting out a little sassy huff as she looked up at her dad.
“I don’t like uncle Haz’s friend,” she complained, jutting out her bottom lip into the cutest little sad face. He had to refrain from giggling at her, hiding his smile by faking a pout, but his eyes held so much amusement. “Why not?”
“I wanted to watch Tangled a-and she made us watch chicken little,” she ranted.
She was clearly getting worked up over this, more than she needed to anyway, tears welling up in her eyes at the thought of the movie that had given her nightmares before. Tom fully knew how much she hated that film, he was the one who’d had to hold her when she cried, and he was slightly frustrated that Harrison hadn’t said anything against watching it.
He sighed, wrapping his arms around her small frame, giving her a big squeeze. “I’m sorry, bub, she does sound like a meanie.”
That made her giggle, making Tom’s heart flutter.
He glanced between the ungraded work on his computer screen and the small girl in his arms, deciding that making her happy was more important than marking someone’s work early, he had days before it had to be done anyway.
Scarlett clung to him like a koala when Tom abruptly stood up from his desk chair, “Where are we going?” She asked.
“You’re going to sit here,” He said, emphasising his words by placing her down on his bed. “While daddy gets changed, and then we can watch Tangled together.”
She squealed excitedly, finding it hard to sit still as Tom grabbed some clothes and headed to his bathroom to change.
A few minutes later he was done, heading back into his room to find his angel bouncing in anticipation as she very incorrectly sang the words to her favourite Tangled song.
“Woah, is that Rapunzel singing?” he teased, poking one of her chubby cheeks as she giggled.
Tom set the movie up with a very impatient three year old beside him, constantly rushing him telling him to hurry up.
He seated himself against the pillows after he’d pressed play and let her get comfortable against his chest, making sure she had her Pascal teddy in her arms ready to watch; something she had to do every single time they watched the movie.
Scarlett had sang to every single song that had played so far, even coaxing Tom into singing a few with her when she decided he must be flynn.
Near her favourite scene, which was obviously the boat scene, Tom’s bedroom door was opened and Harry waltzed in with a greeting.
He stood there for a few minutes just watching the movie with them, the same movie he’d seen a countless amount of times and he probably wouldn’t admit it but he did actually love it.
He found it a little strange that they were watching it in Tom’s room, when normally they’d have it at a high volume in the living room for everyone to hear, even the neighbours.
“Why are you in here?” he asked, pointing to the smaller tv than what was in the living room. Tom sighed, trying to whisper so he wouldn’t bother the angel watching the film, because there’s no doubt she would have some kind of sassy remark to shut him up.
“Harrison was with a girl, she terrorised the munchkin with chicken little.”
Harry found that sentence quite amusing, and to be fair to him the girl was scared of a cartoon chicken, letting out a loud laugh that had Scarlett aggressively shushing him. He apologised sheepishly, biting his lip to contain his smile at the bossy child.
“Well if my favourite girl isn’t going to love me, I guess I’ll go then,” he pouted, making grabby hands at her to try and get a hug.
She looked between the film and her uncle Harry like it was the hardest decision in the world, solved by Tom simply pressing pause.
“Thank you, daddy.”
She ran across the bed until she was standing in front of Harry, throwing herself into his arms so he had to catch her. He chuckled, holding her tightly and pressing a kiss to her cheek.
“How are you, munchkin?”
She buried her head in his neck. “ ‘m good.”
With a teasing growl Harry pried the girl off of him and dropped her on the bed, listening to the way she giggled loudly, her cheeks hurting from how wide she was grinning at her uncle. Harry would of course argue her favourite uncle, but Sam, Paddy, Tuwaine and Harrison would all have something to say to that.
“Will you watch Rapunzel with us?” she asked. Harry could never say no to those big doe eyes, nodding his head with a small sigh.
“Only if I get to sing Flynn’s parts,” he bargained. Tom scoffed, turning his head towards his younger brother with evil eyes.
“Deal,” Scarlett whispered.
“But I thought I was Flynn?” Tom pouted, pulling his bub into his lap with puppy dog eyes to try and guilt trip her. She rolled her eyes, catching Tom slightly off guard for a second. She giggled at him, poking his cheek like he always did to her.
“He’s not really daddy, don’t be selfish.” Harry snorted, covering it up with a cough when Tom sent a glare in his direction.
“Yeah, don’t be selfish Tom.”
»»——⍟——««
“I’m here and I have food,” you announced, carrying the bag in your left hand while you carried your phone and keys in the other. Harrison was the first one in the kitchen. You thought he was taking the bag from you so you didn’t have to struggle carrying it, but it turns out it was only to start rummaging through the food.
He laid out the different containers on the counter, grabbing his and popping them open like he was a starving man.
“Hello to you too.” He flashed you a smile, eating something from inside one of the boxes before he pressed a friendly kiss to your cheek as his greeting. He scattered away back to his room almost as quickly as he came out of it, taking his food with him with a quick thank you.
A grin grew on your lips as you watched your boyfriend enter the kitchen, unlike Harrison, heading straight to greet you, his lips puckered already.
“Missed you.” He pecked your lips softly, your lips lingering for a little bit longer than they normally would and that pretty much told him all he needed to know.
He pulled back from the kiss, lifting his hand to rest on your cheek, slowly stroking just under your eye where he could clearly see how tired you looked. They fluttered shut with a sigh, allowing yourself to embrace the feeling of Tom’s gentle touch. “You okay?”
You hummed unconvincingly, a frown growing on Tom’s face. His hand slipped into your hair, gently pushing your head forward until your cheek was resting against the soft material of his turtleneck.
“D’you want to talk about it?” He asked, swaying the both of you as you embraced each other. He felt you shake your head, tightening your hold around his torso. The two of you paid no mind to the food for a few minutes as you hugged, deciding that it wasn’t going anywhere.
Only did you pull away when you heard two lots of footsteps heading in your direction. Light ones that were much quicker in their steps, obviously Scarletts, and then heavier ones that were much calmer and slower, probably Harrys. Tom was reluctant to let go of you, kissing your forehead when you were no longer in his arms.
He busied himself with getting everyone’s food dished out onto the correct plates, taking much more time with Scarlett’s than he did anyone else's.
He had to make sure it was on her designated kiddie plate that she always used. The one that was divided into different sections for her different bits of food.
“D’you want some help?” You asked, noting the way Tom was more or less doing everything himself. He shook his head, motioning to the doorway with a grin. You followed his gaze and locked eyes with the three year old who looked completely ecstatic to see you.
“Y/N!” she squealed, wrapping her arms around your legs. You grinned, bending down to her height to wrap your arms around her tiny frame. Her presence was enough to lift your mood, a smile growing on your face as she hugged you back. Tom watched with heart eyes, absolutely adoring the way his daughter loved you so much and vice versa. You stood up back to your full height and lifted her onto your hip, letting her see over the counter that was now decorated with countless items of food for the household.
“I missed you today, love.”
“Really?” she asked.
“Of course,” you kissed her cheek. “You always brighten my day, bubba.”
She hid her head in your neck with blushing cheeks, making your heart flutter with the utmost amount of love. You kept Tom company for a few minutes, just holding Scarlett close to you while she watched you both talk.
She may be only three but she knew her daddy was truly in love, it was obvious with the way he looked at you, even to her.
“Almost done?” you asked him, noting the way he was just finding drinks in the fridge. He nodded his head, flashing you both a quick smile that told you you could go get yourself comfy.
“Why don’t we go pick a movie, Lettie?” She perked up and rapidly nodded her head and you already knew what was going to come out of her mouth before she said it, but Tom interrupted before she could even form the words.
“No, we’ve already watched Tangled today.” You giggled as her bottom lip jutted out, her sad eyes shifting to glare at her dad who playfully glared right back. She eventually gave in under his stare, not wanting to get herself into accidental actual trouble.
“Fine.”
“What about Frozen?” you asked, knowing it was also in her top five disney films, even though she would claim most of them were her favourite while you were watching them. She was almost just as excited about your suggestion as she seemed to be about her own, mainly because you had no issue joining her in singing the songs, because God knows Tom could be a lot more stubborn when it came to Frozen songs than he was with Tangled; He wasn’t particular a big fan of this one.
“You two go ahead, I’ll be in in just a minute,” he said. You nodded, helping her carry her drink while you carried yours in your other hand. Once they were both safely placed on the side where you wouldn’t spill them, you began making aeroplane sounds to get her laughing again, finally sitting her down on the floor next to the spot you were planning to sit in. Her adorable toddler laugh never failed to make you feel all warm and giddy inside.
Tom came in no more than five minutes later, bringing yours and Lettie’s food out first so you could get started on eating while the intro of the movie played. He had to make another trip to the kitchen in order to get his, coming back with his plate and phone in hand.
He could’ve cried when he saw the way you and Lettie were laughing and singing along to one of the first songs. You were making her giggle uncontrollably with the way you were doing the different voices, and Tom wasn’t sure he’d ever seen you with a bigger smile.
After the day he’d suspected you had, he was sure you would be more and glad that you had such a lovely distraction.
He pulled up his phone and started recording the two of you, wanting to keep this moment forever so he could always look back and rewatch it. The song finally ended and so did his recording, luckily neither of you noticing he’d recorded that. He was certain you’d be embarrassed if you knew.
He cheered for your performance, taking a seat at the other side of Lettie on the floor.
“That was quite a show,” he teased, shooting you a wink too.
With flushed cheeks you took a bite of your food, trying to busy yourself with anything so you didn’t have to look at your very amused boyfriend. “Shut up.”
»»——⍟——««
After spending the evening watching countless Disney films, all used to cheer you up and take your mind off of whatever day you had, Tom noticed that both you and Scarlett were beginning to drift off together on the couch.
You had moved from the floor to the couch quite earlier on in your second movie, Hercules to be exact, as you deemed it much more comfortable than the hardwood you were sitting on.
She was now curled up into your side, her head managing to dig itself deeper and deeper into your chest as Mulan played in the background. She wasn’t paying attention to the film anymore, letting her eyes flutter closed as she planned on taking a much needed nap in your arms.
However, by the looks of it you were also planning on taking a nap, your head resting on top of the small girls with heavy eyes. Tom awed inside, taking a quick picture of the two of you, sneakily changing it to his lockscreen.
“I think we need to get you two to bed, huh?” He heard you hum, watching as his much smaller bub began making grabby hands at her dad. He smiled, easily scooping her up like she weighed as much as a feather. He placed a kiss on your forehead, telling you not to fall asleep while he got settled Lettie in bed.
The girl was more or less completely limp as he carried her from the living room to her room, carefully setting her in her bed. He made sure she had the teddies she always slept with, tucking her in tightly to keep her nice and warm.
“Can you read me a story?” she asked, voice so quiet and soft that there was no way he could say no, he was just hoping you’d be able to hold out and stay awake.
“Course, which one?”
He spent the next ten minutes reading through a story he’d probably read to her hundreds of times, but somehow she managed to love it even more each time. His voice was low to try and keep the sleepy energy in the room, not wanting her to get too excited, although she would giggle every time he switched his accent to do another character's voice.
“Daddy?” she whispered, drawing his attention away from the next chapter of the book. He hummed quietly, leaning down and placing a kiss on her head to let her know he was listening.
“Are you in love with Y/N?”
He felt himself grow nervous, a stressed chuckle slipping past his lips before he could stop it. He wasn’t sure what to say, he’d yet to actually tell you he loves you, even though he knew it right from your first date. Admittedly, part of him was scared that if he got that vulnerable with you that you would;t love him back and it’d break his heart, even though the more sensible part of him knew you would never do that to him. He just couldn’t find the right time or his guts to tell you.
“What do you know about love, hm?”
“I know that Flynn loves Rapunzel, and you look at Y/N like she’s your Rapunzel.” Tom’s heart melted. He always heard from his friends and family how whipped he looked for you all the time, even when he didn’t realise he’d been looking at you with heart eyes. Hearing this from his own daughter told him basically all he needed to know: He loved you, and he was going to tell you.
“Goodnight baby.” He pressed a kiss to Scarlett’s head, avoiding her question and switching off her light. He closed the door, leaving it slightly open like he did every night just in case she needed him for anything. Tom headed back to the living room, watching the way you were half asleep, your eyes trained on whatever random show had begun playing on the tv.
“Hey, you ready for bed?”
You hummed tiredly. “Don’t want to get up,” you whined.
He chuckled, adoring how cute you got when you were sleepy, often rambling about things that didn’t even make sense. He made his way over to you, shifting your position so he could slip his hands under you and pick you up. You squealed quietly when you were more or less hoisted into the air, a breathy laugh coming from Tom.
You were gently laid on his bed in the blink of an eye, granted your tired eyes were blinking very slowly. Tom left you for a moment, going who knows where to do who knows what.
“Need to take my makeup off,” you moaned to no one but yourself. Tom seemed to have already thought of that, actually he’d already thought of everything as it seemed. Not only was he carrying your makeup remover but some of his clothes for you to change into after your decision not to earlier on.
“Come here, pretty girl.”
The first swipe of the cotton wool against your cheek had you flinching, your sleepy body not expecting the jolt of cold on your skin. Tom chuckled, pressing a kiss to your lips as his form of an apology.
You could feel yourself blushing as he handled your face with such care, soft strokes to your right cheek to remove all the makeup, occasionally meeting your eyes with a small admiring glint in them. The simple act felt so intimate to you and it made your heart grow so much fonder for the curly haired brunette.
“All done.”
You smiled, starting to help him in undressing you to change into his much baggier and comfier clothes. Another wave of exhaustion hit you spontaneously, making you want to just crawl in bed and stay there forever, but here you were just making it more difficult for your boyfriend to slip the shirt over your head.
“No, don’t fall asleep on me yet, angel.” He cooed at you quietly, stroking your cheekbone with his thumb until your eyes fluttered open again. He held up the shirt in his hands.
“We’ll just put this on, yeah? We can forget about the joggers.”
You agreed, assisting him by raising your arms. You were rewarded with a few kisses after he managed to slip the plain shirt on your upper half, bringing a happy grin to your lips as he pulled away from the last kiss. You were over the moon to be slipping under the covers of your boyfriend’s bed, burying your head in his pillow while being engulfed by his calming scent.
He watched you with a smile as you got comfortable, practically purring like a kitten as you finally got comfortable. He slipped the tight, dark turtleneck off from over his head, followed by his dress pants that he put on to feel fancier, despite the fact his class wouldn’t be able to see them.
“Hurry up,” you whined, craving the feel of your boyfriend’s warmth against you. He thankfully didn’t make you wait too much longer, slipping in beside you with a content sigh.
The two of you laid in silence for a while, and although Tom didn’t know whether you’d fallen asleep already or not, he spoke up and asked the question on his mind anyway.
“What happened today?”
You groaned, burying your face deeper into Tom’s chest, trying to avoid the topic altogether. He gave you all the time you needed though, stroking his fingers through your hair while you thought about where to start.
“Everything just went wrong, got yelled at by my boss too,” you explained simply. “Couldn’t wait to come home to you and Lettie.”
He frowned, planting a kiss on your head. He mumbled a quiet apology, apologising of course for the fact you had a bad day.
“I hope we were able to cheer you up.”
You tucked your head into his neck, a dreamy smile making the corner of your lips twitch.
“Of course you did, my two favourite people.”
He thought about your last three words over and over again in his head. Now was the time, it was the perfect time.
“Y/N?” He didn’t get a response this time from you, but he also knew if he didn’t speak up now then he’d probably back out again. “I-I love you, so much.”
From the angle he was laying at he was unable to see the expression that had overtaken your face. Tom, always assuming the worst, guessed that you had heard him but he’d just ruined everything and there was no way he could take that back now.
You could feel his rapid heartbeat in his chest underneath your head, your hand coming up to gently rub the skin with your thumb, hoping to soothe him a little. You placed a kiss beside your thumb onto his chest, lifting your head so you could look him in the eye. “Calm down you goof, I love you too.”
»»——⍟——««
Tom didn’t know what time it was when he heard the noise near his ear. Assuming that it was just a noise he buried his face deeper into the back of your neck, tightening his arm around your body. He heard it again, this time he recognised the voice as belonging to his angel bub. She placed her tiny hands on his arm, trying to roll him over on the bed.
“What’s wrong, dove?”
“Nightmare,” she whispered. Tom frowned, rolling onto his back to scoop her up and let her cuddle into his chest. His other arm was still tucked underneath your head, the male hoping that he hasn’t woken you.
He pressed a kiss to the girl’s head, rubbing his hand across the back of her hair to try and soothe her. He could feel her tiny frame shaking from whatever rattled her in her dream and it broke his heart.
“Lettie,” he whispered. She sniffled quietly, looking up at her dad. As selfish as it sounds, Tom was still extremely sleepy so he didn’t really know what was happening right now, which meant he wasn’t exactly able to talk his bub back to sleep like he normally would. He also didn’t want to accidentally wake you up because you were equally as tired, if not more than him.
“I told Y/N I love her.” She gasped, bolting up to look at her dad to see if he was telling the truth. He grinned, nodding his head. Little did they know that you were currently listening to everything the pair was saying, and your heart was already melting at the reaction coming from Scarlett.
You didn’t know why Tom was telling her this, or why Scarlett seemed so excited about it, but you were curious to know where he was going with this.
“What happened, daddy?” she asked, her big doe eyes watching him closely.
“Let’s just say, she’s definitely my Rapunzel.”
