"You can't write Howl Pendragon without writing Howell Jenkins"
#and that's basically it#yeah he was also made in a bland perfect ver of himself BUT#that's also kind of a part of erasing his whole story#and replacing his own character#IT'S JUST#his nationality his life his education his love for his family#the difference between his reputation in Ingary and in Wales#HIS QUIRCKS OF ADAPTING OR REFUSING TO ADAPT TO MEDIEVAL SOCIETY#his early life his damn PhD the expectation that were on him#his overall vibe even#IS SO tightly tied to his origin and backstory#that by erasing or changing it in any efficent way#you destroy the character entierly#yeah he's good#but he's not well himself anymore#by adaptation#means#hmc book#howl's moving castle book#hmc#howl's moving castle#howell jenkins#howl pendragon#howls moving castle

Hey Can we get another yan Albert wesker x reader please? If not its ok. And another question, which charecter are you willing to write in mortal kombat? Hope you have a great day miss♥
(Sorry for my English)
mk characters are in my pinned post! also sorry this is super duper late! warnings: kissing/makeout, reader is not a fan, reader is kidnapped!!
Yan!Wesker coming home to his darling
You swirl the tea in your mug, playing with the way the liquid moves against itself. Every tick of the wall clock makes you more and more agitated. Usually, it would go entierly unnoticed, escpesially with the sound of heavy rain outside. But right now the noise serves as a constant reminder that your captor will be arriving 'home' any second now.
And, as if the universe had read your thoughts, you hear the sound of the front door being unlocked and someone entering the mansion.
After a moment spent re-locking the plethora of locks on the door, Wesker steps in, his eyes quickly search for you before he even bothers take off his rain-drenched coat. And he couldn't help but feel his heart miss a beat when he caught sight of you. You were leaning against a kitchen counter in some of the loungewear he'd bought you, looking nothing short of ethereal without even trying.
"Hello, my darling," he greets you as you make eye-contact. A greeting you don't bother returning.
Only after confirming for sure you hadn't escaped in his absence (nearly impossible considering the security measures he's taken against it), he feels relaxed enough to at least take off his shoes and coat before finally joining you.
"You're home," you state plainly as he calmly strides his way over to you. Your apathetic acknowledgement of him momentarily pulls all air from his lungs, even if your eyes remain focusued on the mug, you usually don't speak to him at all unless it can't be avoided.
"I am," he breathed, as one of his hands tenatively comes to rest on the kitchen island as he now stands in front of you. You take one last swig of your tea and place the empty mug on the counter behind you.
"....How was your day?" you asked, not that you particularly cared, you just needed him to do something other than just stare at you like that, with those with piercing, predatory, infatuated eyes of his.
"It was fine," Wesker replied, giving you a gentle smile before taking your hands into his, making eye-contact with you and courtiously kissing your knuckles, "better now."
He could've never imagined that someone could bring out this kind of emotion in him. He's a man who takes what he wants and betrays without regard for anyone or anything. He's fought and won against some of the most powerful of mutant monsters and most well-trained of soldiers. And yet he feels weaker that ever from something as simple as being under your scrutinizing gaze.
God, he's so pathetic for you.
He sofly takes your face into his hands, tilting your head up, forcing you to face him properly. He inches closer and closer until you're completely chest to chest. Finally, there is no barrier between us, he'd destroy anything that tried to fill that space. His superhuman strength is palpable, keeping you still as his tall stature cages you in against the counter. He subconsiously licks his lips at the sight of you so vulnerable under him. With exhilaration in his body, he leans down and he kisses you.
One hand slides into your hair and another holds the side of your face, keeping your head firmly in place as he gradually deepens the kiss more and more. It was an overwhelming feeling, your lips and body being smothered by full weight of his obsession. Your skin against his, the small muffled noises that escape you, the slight taste of chamomile on your tounge —he feels like he's going fucking insane.
How you can make him feel so strong and yet so weak at the same time is both fascinating and agitating to him. This annoyance is faux of course, after all, he could never look into those captivating eyes of yours with anything other than complete adoration.
"Oh darling, how I've missed you" he murmurs into the kiss, making sure to purr out the nickname in a way that makes your skin tingle and your ears echo. You push a hand against his chest as a signal that this is becoming way more of a make-out session than a kiss, but of course he doesn't take the hint, if anything, it encourages him.
You just pray the chef prepared dinner perfectly tonight, it's hard to sleep with muffled agonized screams coming from somewhere in the house.
#would love to write for mortal kombat but i also dont have any inspo lol#yandere resident evil#yandere wesker#yandere albert wesker x reader#yandere albert wesker#yandere wesker x reader#also sorry his yandere nature isnt really on full display here#he just doesnt want to seem in any way violent or threatening to you yk

If we allready talking bout Naruto:
Thoughts on the infamous Itachi retcon? Think it was planned by the time Itachi was shown to be crying? Or that by the Valley of the End flashback Itachi was "a good guy* or still a more interesting villian that snapped in the most horible way that was human deep down even after all that
It was certainly not the plan back when the entire thing was first shown i can tell you that.
There are only two things pre timeskip, where there was suggested to be anything more than what itachi claimed it to be, and it's 1. that ANBU jacket and outfit he's wearing, and 2. that middle panel on the page above, where Itachi looks just slightly perturbed by Sasuke's question, judging by his lips.
I can believe that Kishimoto had some twist in mind, where it was revealed that elements inside the ANBU put Itachi up to this, and that morphed into Danzo's involvement.
I do not believe for a second, that Itachi was planned as any form of good person. Itachi murdered his entire family, men, women, children except for his brother. He butchered babes in their cribs. He was a monster, who regardless of wheter this was entierly his own idea, or he was offered a chance to do what he'd been planing or considering for a while, he made the choice to take it.
Not only is the entire thing a gigantic pile of nonsensical retcons, all for the purpose of making Itachi look better, but it's a sloppy one at that.
This is how Itachi killed his parents according to the retcon.
It was quick, clean stab in the back, and they were facing the same way, on their knees.
This is how they were killed in the original flashback of this scene.
there was clearly a struggle here, with blood all over the floor, and with his parents bodies splayed out in such a way that it suggests his dad was trying to protect his wife.
Unless Itachi speciffically posed them like that, it's impossible for their bodies to have gotten to this position naturally from how he killed them.
The fact is that Kishimoto didnt know where to go with Sasuke once he killed Itachi... So when he realised that, he decided to retcon his entire backstory to let him go into an entierly different direction, rather than exploring Sasuke in a post Itachi world.
And in the process, he completely rewrote Itachi's personality and character, and instead presented him as the second coming of chritst, as a messiah like figure who could do no wrong, and had only the best intentions.
He wasn't the only one who got this treatment in Naruto's later years either.
Gaara's backstory, as it was originally portrayed was a very tragic tale, that encompassed what the Naruto world was actually about.
This is the world of the Shinobi, a world full of tragedies, and personal sacrifices, hate, love, and the broken children it left in it's wake.
the story of Naruto as it was originally presented, and shown before the pain saga ended at one of the worst turning points in manga history, was the story of the broken children this world left behind. Naruto, Gaara, Sasuke, Pain, Lee, Kakashi, Obito, Zabusa, Hinata, Neji, and on and on and on it went.
This moment, where Gaara's uncle, the one person he thought loved him lays out the truth, is a powerful, tragic moment that showcases the reality of treating children like superpowered nukes.
It destroyed this entire family. It destroyed gaara's mother by taking her life, destroyed his uncle by forcing him to try to love a child he never could, and it destroyed his entire family outside of it, by making the relationship between gaara and his siblings into one fear and hate.
It's very, very poignant. It would be a real shame if it was completely retconned, and his uncle actually only said these things on order from his dad, completely removing the entire point of the scene.
and That is exactly what happened.
I could go on, but the big, big problem with later naruto, is that when confronted with the question of how Naruto would change this brutal, cruel world, rather than have him come up with a real answer, the very fabric of the setting changed.
The 5 hidden villages were united against a cartoonishly evil villain, who used a cartoonish army of cloned henchmen and ressurected zombies. The fact that the problem was always the ninja system itself as it existed, and not the existence of the 5 superpowers and their direct animosity with each other was never adressed, and villains and black and grey figures were suddenly given the white brush, and would make moral heelturns as worst excemplified by Itachi and Orochimaru.
Addmitingly a lot of everything related to the Itachi Retcons started a bit earlier than Pain ressurecting everyone(thus destroying the entire point of the arc, and setting the stage for cheap non deaths from here on), but that only goes to show that while that was the decisive turning point, it began a bit earlier than that.

something something the lonely god
anyways i'm really loving vampire science this book has everything. butch companion. goth bars. vampires. another character whos a doctor. eight and his ridiculous personality. the 90s. but i think it's really interesting how these last remnants of The Great Vampires, an ancient enemy of the timelords, was reduced to so little so long ago that they are unaware of the time war. when the book was written (1997) the time war bit wasnt a thing yet, so ofc this is unintentional completely-- but 'the legends talk of whole worlds destroyed'--the timelords decimated so entierly they themselves are reduced to myth. not just being saying 'but you're impossible' to the doctor post-time war, when he is the last one, but a civilisation that is at this point entact (more or less) that is so bound up its its own mystery that they are not even believed to be real. even by species who were once arch enimies apparently. 'no one's even sure if the time lords were real' like ough. there s bit just later where one of teh vampires says to the doctor 'why not say that you are the angel gabriel, or osiris?' - two heavenly/godly figures. just. ough

more coherent Kirby species lore post than my last one, headcannons gotta be dropped my fellas
Astrals, also known as star children are born from two places which indicates the type of Astral, type number one "basic Astrals" are born from falling stars- aka a hyper nova happens and a little ball is just shot out at light speeds- and the other "world eater Astrals" are born when the universe itself makes a wish. Both types of Astrals keep untold power within, however world eaters are much more divine in nature as basic astrals are more suited for lesser scale protection of the universe. World eaters often play very big roles in their universe which is why they're so rare.
Basic Astrals accumulate power over time, their main function is to become warriors that fight off threats- Galacta Knight is old as fuck and can destroy planets without a sweat, Meta Knight on the other hand is much much younger, but still very powerful. I'd say young adult in Astral years (which is infinite because they are immortal- but can be killed by means other than age).
World Eater Astrals are born with untold power- often seen as the embodiments of certain concepts like say... Death. Or friendship! Either way! They gain power from other living things, sort of absorbing them to use their power to fuel themselves, which explains Kirby's ungodly apatite! When they reach a certain age they begin to look different from a basic Astral, so for the first few millennia of their lives they often look identical to a basic astral and you could only really tell the difference by seeing their power. Ancient world eaters can change shape entierly! Morpho, Kirby and possibly Void are world eaters!
Now, they are a very very rare species. Basics are very hard to come by themselves- world eaters are even more rare and thus more feared. But! How do these little round beasts age? What are their characteristics?
All Astrals start out as little round balls, no limbs, only a face, eyes with what looks like galaxies in them. When the limbs have formed they're about the age of a young child and will gravitate to the nearest planet to begin their life properly, often crashing down like meteors or "shooting stars". They're incredibly malleable and squishy. You pet one and it feels like if a peach and a balloon had a baby. They're curious, hungry little things. They need to eat a LOT to help with building their power supply (or maintaining it).
Then they grow into older children-teens, where small wings start to form on their backs, during this stage other appendages like horns or antenna or antlers may begin forming as well- though it's very rare. This stage is where they begin losing their hover ability to slowly adjust to a more reliable and fast flight.
When they've matured enough they'll have grown larger- not too much larger mind you! But they will also have paws now to better hold weapons, and their wings will have finally come in. Also Astrals eyes become brighter and start glowing the older they get, so by this stage they are a pure color (but still have stars in them if you look close enough) and will glow. Also, speaking of wings, they come in all shapes and sizes, bat wings, bug wings, bird wings, star shaped sparkler wings you name it they can have it!
BASICALLY it goes from: float->hover->fly
It's a custom of Astrals to don a mask or helm of some kind when they've reached full maturity, as it's... Kinda hard to take a lil cutie pie seriously unless they cover that cutie pie face up! Some Astrals are more anxious about their faces though. Looking at you Meta Knight.

Wei Wuxian in every episode → episode twenty-six. Birth of the Yiling Laozu One of the many things I love about Wei Wuxian and what makes him such a compelling character to me is the amount of layers to him. By following him throughout the story you know very well how much and how deeply he loves those he's closest to, as well as just how strong his sense of justice and fairness runs. Him becoming the Yiling Laozu and defending and protecting the remaining Wens' strongly shows that, and brings to the forefront the real question of 'how far is too far when it comes to war?' The Wens' he rescues are innocent for the crimes of their sect leaders and other superiors - and yet still the majority of the cultivation world seeks to punish them simply because of who they are. Wei Wuxian is the only factor that stands up and argues back that that's not right, and that makes everyone he challenges feel uncomfortable. The thing is, as much as Wei Wuxian is a good person, in the way the story of the Untamed and MDZS is structured, he very much fits the role of the villain that the cultivation world targets him as. He is powerful - by weiding a power that is hardly understood and is better known for destroying a cultivator who harnesses it. He refuses to hand over what the Jin clan ask of him - we know the reasons why Wei Wuxian won't hand it over and how it plays into the fight of power the sects would have over it, but by how he constantly keeps his most private thoughts and secrets to himself Wei Wuxian in turn paints a target upon his own back, causing the question to ruse as to why he won't obey this request. He shows sympathy for a sect that has been shunned and which the majority of the cultivation world seeks to wipe out entierly - because Wei Wuxian sees the truth of who those people really are; that they are just a mixture of the young and the elderly, not fighters or soldiers but healers, farmers and builders, whilst the rest of the world sees only their sect they once belonged to. There's also the fact that Wei Wuxian can just be plain terrifying when he wants to be, and that instills fear in his enemies. He's a very real threat, despite the fact that truly ... Wei Wuxian is just trying to do what he believes is right and just. That's the sort of thing I kind of love seeing in a character, because it makes them so much more real. The struggle of moving forward with what they know in their heart is right, even when the world is against them. The tragedy that if Wei Wuxian had only opened up more to those he was close to, that maybe then his fate at the end would have ended up differently ... Episode twenty-six is very much the birth of the Yiling Laozu, as this is the moment that Wei Wuxian decides to take the final leap, knowing that in doing so, he can truly never return to the life he led beforehand. But to walk away and leave innocent people to die? That is something Wei Wuxian simply could not live weighing heavily upon himself, not when he knows he could have done something to help them. Sure, he didn't know just how big a web of trouble and political strife he was walking into - mostly because no one really knew of the true machinations going on behind the scenes at this point - but even if he did, his character speaks loudly enough in that he would have likely still made the same decision. There's simply no other way.
#mdzsnet#wei wuxian#wen qing#the untamed#the untamed graphics#my graphics#wei wuxian in every episode#that last gif is literally wei wuxian being all 'then perish'.#i have SO MANY clips of angry feral!yiling laozu!wei wuxian#so expect another set of just them in the near future

A well beloved doctor living in London, Andrew has made quite a name for himself! All of his patients are very happy with his work as he is able to always diagnose them properly and give them the correct medicine - truly a divine blessing in this day and age. He's a cheerful gentleman in his mid to early thirties who always has a gentle smile on his face. He is very fond of children and he does not mind babysitting them whenever someone asks him to do so, making him popular with parents and single mothers especially. During the day time he is filled to the brim with work but he always makes time to have afternoon tea, chat with his servants, or just try to enjoy like in general. A truly kind man in the eyes of many!
Alas though, when darkness overcomes his manor a new side of the good doctor surfaces, a side that no one knows about.
And Andrew plans to keep it that way.
There are many, many things that the doctor desires, craves, needs. But he is stuck in the same place day by day as he is forced to play his role of the savior. Even the good doctor Andrew likes to indulge himself from time to time... But that indulgence has gotten out of hand. By sheer accident Andrew was able to create a special elixir which is able to shift him in to a completely different person. His body is different, his hair is different, everything is different. His psyche however, remains the same.
And Andrew uses this newfound knowlege to his advantage.
Dubbing his new alter ego "Edward Hyde", Andrew is pleased to do what he wants once the sun sets. He messes with the townfolk, he shamelessly flirts and seduces any woman he sees, he picks on the young and the poor, nothing is off the table. This becomes a habbit very quickly as Edward is soon well known among the city. Some flee and flinch at the mere mention of him while others scoff and prepare their fists for a fight. Things continue like this for a while until Andrew notices that whenever he changes in to Edward, his mind is no longer fully his. Even throught the day as he sits in his office he can hear a gruff voice at the back of his mind, telling him to just finish the damn paperwork already. He starts hearing this voice everywhere and he starts to think that he is going mad. The voice taunts him day after day until he finally turns in to Hyde. Only then is he able to feel some inner peace. Andrew soon starts to lose control over himself as the voice grows louder and louder, yelling at him and commanding him to do its bidding. Every day now turns in to a battle as Andrew struggles to get out of bed and face himself in the mirror... But that's the catch. On one fateful morning the reflection he sees is not his own.
It's Hyde's.
The glowing green eyes of Edward Hyde stare back at him as Jekyll does his best to hold his breath in. This can't be real, this can't be happening! By now Andrew is pretty much at war with this new persona he had made and he does not know how to stop this coflict. Both do as they please which contradicts their previous actions, making both Edward and Andrew more then a little suspicious to the public eye. By this point Andrew regrets having ever created Edward but it's too late now. Edward Hyde was a part of him now, a dark part of him which could not be released. The only thing Andrew could do was to keep him at bay even if he was bearly able to do so. This constant pushing and pulling was exhausting to both of them and both were more then ready for a release.
And their release indeed came, but not in the way they thought it would.
It came in the form of love. Love for a sweet darling, a twisted obsession and want over this special little lamb who stumbled in to their lives by sheer accident, at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Andrew and Edward remain greatful still.
The pushing and pulling dies down whenever (y/n) is in the room and their attitudes are completely different from each other. Oh, if only (y/n) knew just what sort of danger awaits...
Andrew Jekyll.
Ever the gentleman, Andrew always places his darlings needs before his own. He worries for his sweetheart constantly as he dotes on them, making sure that they are safe and happy. Did his darling eat today? Did his darling sleep well? He won't ever stop asking these questions whenever he sees them, he just can't help himself! He never shuts up and he always seems to forget what he is trying to say but that's okay, his darling doesn't seem to mind.
Andrew stays gentle like that for a while as he treats his darling like divine royalty which does not go unnoticed by the people around him. He hears his servants whisper many things once he turns his back but he can't help but to blush a little - he may act a little awkward but in reality he really doesn't mind.
Andrew is also willing to bend over backwards and break his spine to get his darling whatever their little heart desires. He has more then enough money then he knows what to do with anyway! He wants jis darling to depend on him, he wants to be darlings only one true protector. He wants to provide for his darling like a good husband would.
Andrew often loses himself in these little fantasies that he gets distracted from his work, cahsing him to mess something up or to accidentaly spill or destroy amything around him. It's a vicious cycle of endless pinning as Andrew just doesn't have the guts to express his feelings, much to Hyde's annoyance and amusement. Cracks will start to form deep within him as Andrew tries to restrain himself more and more whenever he is around his darling. His smiles are not entierly his anymore as he stares his darling down like a piece of meat. Andrew hungers for darlings love and approval which in a way, does make his darling a piece of meat to him.
No matter what he just can never get enough of his darling, ever. The cheerful smiles thrown his way are not enough, and good grief just the mere brush of darlings fingers against his own is enough to send Jekyll in to a panicked frenzy. He loses his composure right there and then as he is forced to look his darling in the eye and do... nothing. He can't do anything he desires, he can't grab his darling by the back of their neck and press those pretty little lips against his own...
He can't caress the love of his life freely in public.
Hell, he can't even touch them without someone making a fuss.
Everything, everyone, is slowly driving him mad.
His love is driving him mad.
Andrew's affection starts to turn conditional, he can only ever shower his darling with gifts if they behave how he wants them to, if they pay enough attention to him, which is of course never quite enough.
His sanity fades as lovesickness kicks in.
His patience is wearing thin. What's taking his darling to love him back already? Hasn't he done everything any ideal lover would do? He has done literally everything, it must be his darling! It can't be his fault! His soft spoken words soon turn sharper then any knife as he imagines that very same weapon in his hands, pressed against darlings pretty little neck. Bruised, bloody and broken, that's how Jekyll wants his darling to be now.
He wants to crush them in his love.
And chances are, he will give in to his temptations.
Edward Hyde.
Tsk, tsk, this man is quite the charmer. A real smooth talker blessed with a deeper voice then his more seemingly more gentle counterpart, Hyde is no stranger to suggestive comments and rough touches. His feelings ignite like flames, quickly and suddenly. They take over his heart and soul, burning him and leaving endless ache and want in its path.
It's a strange feeling. He doesn't know how to feel about it...
When he meets his darling he treats her just how he treats other women. He craves nothing more then darlings body but when darling turns him down Hyde feels intrigued. Playing hard to get, eh?
He is always up for a good challenge.
Hyde stops paying attention to other women and his darling soon becomes his prime time target - Edward cannot move on unless he has his darling. He provokes, taunts and teases, just itching to see darlings reactions to his schemes. Cuss at him, slap him, do anything you want! Just as long as your focus is on him that wolf like grin will never leave his face. He just loves it when his darling turns red, it's so cute he could kiss her. His provoking continues like this for a while until Hyde begins to realize just how some couples act around each other. His softer side starts to show itself and it's something to marvel at really.
Unlike Jekyll, who is soft at the beginning and turns cruel at the end, Hyde is the opposite of that. He doesn't want to just mess with his darling anymore, he wants to actually love and care for her, to actually be in a commited relationship.
His protective side is on full display and anyone with at least a single braincell should be able to get the message.
Hyde often wonders when the Hell did he become so soft all of a sudden. He wants this pain in his chest to stop but the only way it can is if his darling is with him. He doesn't need anyone else... He doesn't want anyone else.
Let's hope Hyde's darling has a strong stomach because he doesn't give a damn who he has to hurt. He and Jekyll are nearly nothing alike but if they share on thing in common, it would be determination.
Edward Hyde has found his prey and he isn't going anywhere without it.

More “On Fairy-Stories” thoughts
1. “A quality ofstrangeness and wonder in the Expression, derived from the Image: a quality essential to fairy-story.” The more I read of this the more coherent Magpie seems as a person.
2. “Fantastic forms arenot to be counterfeited.” This thread throughout on how fantasy must be real, how you can’t treat it lightly because it automatically then becomes farce. It reminds me of this advice I read once about writing: the more fantastical the world, the more grounded the characters must be in reality. When writing fiction set in the every-day world, characters can be allowed to slip into unreality just a little, because the universe backs up their reality, but within fantasy, any lack of serious reality destroys the world entierly and the value it possesses. How fantasy is the most serious of genres.
3. As someone with non-British parents living in England, I am delighted Tolkien makes fun of pantomime, because I cannot understand it. All my friends assure me it’s hilarious. I have not found it to be so.
4. Art and Magic are one and the same Mr Tolkien sir stop making me emotional about creation challenge.
5. We create because we were created.
6. “If men really could not distinguish between frogs and men, fairy-stories about frog-kings would not have arisen,” I have nothing to say about this I just want to remind everyone of this because it’s so cool.
7. “Escape is evidently as a rule very practical, and may even be heroic” SOMEONE FIND THAT CS LEWIS QUOTE ABOUT FANTASY AS THE YEARNING FOR ANOTHER WORLD BEING A REFLECTION FOR THE FACT WE DON’T BELONG IN THIS ONE SINCE THE FALL you know what I’m talking about.
8. “Not to mention (indeed not to parade) electric street-lamps of mass produced pattern in your tale is Escape” is this the thing that made Lewis write Narnia to annoy Tolkien???
9. “It does not deny the existence of dyscatastrophe, of sorrow and failure: the possibility of these is necessary to the joy of deliverance; it denies (in the face of much evidence, if you will) universal final defeat.” !!!!!!!!!!!!
10. How the Gospel is the ultimate fairy tale because it’s TRUE and that grants validation to all other fairy tales!!!!! And now I’m thinking that without the resurrection fairy tales wouldn’t have any point, they would be lies and foolishness because there would be no truth in them whatsoever but because! of God’s sacrifice! there is an everlasting truth! he grants truth to all happy endings! AAHHHHH

@ All the Newly-Born Hawks Haters, Some Food For Thought (Be mindful of manga spoilers)
Chapter 266 of the manga left a lot of readers shaken. And with good reason. It was an emotional chapter and a very beloved character has a 99.9999999% probability of having met their end (yes, I’m leaving that 0.00000001% there, sue me, he haven’t seen the body). As a result, Hawks is getting a lot (and I mean A LOT) of hate for having done the deed. But let’s look a bit at facts, alright? And not just chapter 266, but also the two chapters before it.
Alright, so first thing’s first, little reminder: the first thing Hawks did was use his feathers to catch Twice off guard and immobilize him. And he did just that. He caught Twice off guard and had him at his mercy. So let’s point out something very important here:
He could have killed Twice right then and there. He chose not to.
Instead, what did he do? He talked. And what did he say?
Hmmm... sounds to me like he’s telling Twice the only reason he was on Hawks’s radar at all was his Quirk. Because his Quirk made him dangerous due to the fact that he can... well... multiply ad infinitum. He’s basically a never-ending One-Man Army. Add to that that each clone can also make multiple clones of other people, too, just to spice things up, and it gets worse from there.
Friendly reminder, this is one of the biggest reasons (or, actually the reason, because without this, Shigaraki never would have gotten to Re-Destro and never would have beaten him) LoV defeated the Meta Liberation Army:
Spinner hits the nail on the head right there. Twice can handle it all by himself due to his sheer numbers. Second friendly reminder: the real Twice isn’t even anywhere near there at that point. He’s still with Toga, making a double of her to give her a blood transfusion to save her life. These are all self-multiplying clones. And that’s all that gets to Re-Destro’s tower until the real Shigaraki crumbles it. It’s what saves Giran. Clones.
So yeah, from a mere logical standpoint, Hawks certainly has a point. Twice has a very dangerous, very OP Quirk that’s basically broken when used right. The only reason it hasn’t been an issue up until now was his trauma.
(You know who else has a potentially game-breaking, OP Quirk which they can’t use at least partly because of trauma? Someone who manga readers have in the past worried about? And who anime onlys have the same thoughts about now? Eri. Funny that Twice didn’t get the same treatment, huh. But I digress, that’s a point for another meta entierly. Moving on.)
So, yes, looking at this, Hawks definitely has a point. Twice is dangerous and needs to be dealt with, otherwise the heroes stand no chance simply because they’ll be overrun. This is further proven in the newest chapter, when the last clone manages to save Compress’s and Toga’s asses.
Look at that! They’re perfectly willing to ALL bunker down in the basement and let Twice handle everything BY HIMSELF. That’s how much they trust him, but that’s also just how dangerous he and his Quirk are to the heroes. And these aren’t some random villains that joined not long ago. That’s Compress and Toga, who have been Twice’s comrades for a very long time. They know he struggled before. They know he was nearly useless before. But now, they’re willing to leave everything to him. That’s how powrful he is and how much they trust him. So, again, Hawks has a point.
Having made my case on that, here’s the main question: how did Hawks handle it?
Well, as I already pointed out above, he started out by catching Twice off guard and immobilizing him. Then he explained why he was so cautious of him in particular. He had the perfect chance to kill him right then and there and he chose not to. Why?
Simple. Because when it comes down to it, Hawks might have been trained to kill, but that doesn’t mean he wants to unless it is absolutely necessary. And at that moment, he decides it is not. So he doesn’t do it. He could, but he doesn’t. Instead, he talks, He explains himself and insists the only reason he singled out Twice is his Quirk (which, again, is valid). And from there?
All in all... he's telling Twice that he's been doing his job, going after the most dangerous guy as far as his Quirk went, but that he doesn't actually have anything against Twice himself. Never once does he say Twice is a villain or Twice needs to be stopped because he has bad intentions or anything of the sort. It's literally only because of his Quirk and because he's loyal to the League. If he were still traumatized and couldn't use his Quirk, Hawks would have left him alone. He was going after the biggest threat, because that was his job.
Going further:
Hawks proves that he doesn't dislike Twice as a person, doesn't even think him a villain beyond what he has been made to do. He actually wants to help 'rehabilitate him'. And yeah, maybe that's stuck up because Twice doesn't think he needs rehabilitation or anything like that, but it can't be said that Hawks isn't trying. He already had more than enough time to kill him. He doesn't even mention doing that at this point and he doesn't do it. He wants to capture him, have him pay for his crimes and then live as a normal civilian because he honestly believes Twice can do that. He doesn’t want to kill him and he’s actively trying to avoid it. And I mean, yeah, it could be a ploy. Hawks is definitely a damn good actor and we all know he can control even his facial expression at all times perferctly. Because that’s what he’s been trained to do. But fake or not... his expression here doesn’t look like the face of someone who wants to kill the person at their mercy and are holding back on it ‘because it’s the heroic thing to do’. He genuinely believes Hawks to be a good person.
So then, why do things escalate? Why do they start fighting?
Because Twice is loyal to the League and is happy right where he is and... well, he doesn’t want Hawks’s so-called help.
Once again, friendly reminder that Hawks is a damn good actor who can always control his expression. Look at what little we see from his face here. Look at the way he scowls. He tells Twice to stop and then calls his name and I don’t know about you, but I can hear the warning in those words. Because Hawks knows what he’ll have to do if Twice won’t stand down, if he doesn’t let himself just be taken in. And he doesn’t want to do it. He doesn’t want to have to do it. Hell, he even downright SAYS he doesn’t want to have to fight him, with an expression that’s as much warning as it is pleading, because again, he knows what he may have to do if Twice won’t stand down.
Twice refuses to stand down, though. Look at Hawks’s expression in that second panel when avoiding a fight becomes impossible. I don’t know about you but... Hawks looks pretty resigned there if you ask me. Resigned and sad.
Ok, so from there, they fight. But... funny thing there.
Hawks clearly dominates Jin. He doesn’t even have to move, his feathers take care of everything. He easily destroys the clones. But guess what? He could destroy the real Jin just as easily. He doesn’t. Instead, he just destroys his mask to be able to keep track of which one is the real one... likely to not kill him on accident.
Once again, he has a prime chance to kill Twice and chooses not to take it. Instead, he once again offers him a peaceful way out. And once again, it’s Twice who refuses the offer, who insists to keep fighting.
This is the second warning Hawks gives. Saying these words in that moment imply that’s what he thinks of Twice. He‘s a villain like that. He’s determined and experienced and he’ll refuse to get knocked out. Ergo, if Hawks has to stop him, he has to kill him. By acknowledging that, Hawks also acknowledges he’s ready to do it. He’s warning Twice. Telling him to stand down while he still can.
Once again: he could not bother and kill Twice right then. For the third time, he chooses not to.
“When neither side wants to give, somebody has to die.” That’s what Hawks says next, after actually, physically overpowering Twice, showing him yet again how outclassed he is, how much he has no chance. This is as clear a warning as Hawks can get. If ‘someone has to die when neither side is willing to give’, that means he’s very much willing to get blood on his hands. Because he cannot let Twice go.
And again: he could have not stopped his blade then. He could have stabbed Twice. Hell, he could have cut him in half a second earlier with how easily he got the hit in and how open Twice’s posture is.
Hawks chose not to.
What follows is probably a good minute (or at least 30 seconds or so) of talking in which Hawks all but states he’ll kill Twice. He could have used all that time to kill him. He could have stabbed him, ended the mission and been on his merry way.
He chose not to.
Then Dabi shows up abd basically tries to burn the whole room, people included. What does Hawks do?
He saves Twice.
He didn’t have to. He was going to kill him anyway, right? So why bother saving him from Dabi’s fire? Why not just let him burn and at least not have the blood on his hands?
It’s simple, really.
Because this entire time, he has just been trying to put him out of comission.
Yes, he hurt him. Yes, damaged his organs. But he’s made sure it is not fatal. Because he doesn’t want to kill Twice. He wants him to live. And he thinks he’s out of comission now, he can just move him elsewhere, somewhere away from the fight, which is what he’s planning. Likely has been all along despite his cold attitude.
Speaking of, friendly reminder again: Hawks is a damn good actor. All that cold attitude and saying he’ll kill Twice earlier? All an act. He would have done it at least four or five times over already if he really wanted to. These here are his thoughts, the first ones we get to read in a while, and it’s about how Twice is wounded but not fatally and how Hawks plans to move him. Not kill. Not finish off. Move, likely to somewhere where his wounds can be treated and he can be taken into custody.
Except Twice doesn’t intend to let that happen.
He shouldn’t be able to move, but he does. As Hawks has predicted, he ‘refuses to be knocked out’. And Hawks actually loses his composure there, because, well... he never said Twice shouldn’t move. He thought it. He assumed he wouldn’t be able to due to his extensive but not fatal injuries. And he knows real well that if Twice continues to try and keep fighting beyond that point, well... Hawks’s hand will be forced. It’ll be a choice between letting him go (which would be a disaster for the heroes, so he can’t do that) and actually killing him.
And that is exactly what happens. That’s the choice Hawks is faced with in the end, because Twice refuses to stand down and escapes.
Dabi yells at Twice to ‘go wild’. It’s pretty obvious what he means by that. It’s just as obvious that Twice is willing to do it. He plans on doing it. So Hawks can’t let him leave.
And again, someone (this time Dabi) says Hawks is ‘too fast’. And that’s true, he is fast. Which means he has been holding back for as long as he could have because he’s had more than enough time to kill Twice multiple times already, and he chose not to each time.
And this right here... this is the moment Hawks’s hand was forced. Because Twice managed to get out, managed to get one clone away from that room. That clone could multiply itself, could make an army of itself as long as the original Twice was alive. Doesn’t matter he’s tired and on the verge of passing out, doesn’t matter he’s wounded. The first clone is made and as long as Twice lives, more will follow. So Hawks can’t offer Jin another out. He literally can’t. So he does what he must. In this instant, unless he wants to betray the heroes and let the entire raid fail, he has no choice.
So he does it. Finally. After having at least five or six separate chances to do it and choosing not to each time, after trying to convince Twice again and again to not fight, to just let himself be taken into custody, after warning him over and over what Hawks will have to do (and what he will do) if he refuses to stand down... he does it. Because he had no other choice.
And how does the fandom react to it? By hating on him. Not everyone, obviously, as always, there’s a big divide, but those who hate, hate hard. And I mean... come on people! Yes, I loved Twice, too. He was (is) a great character with a wonderful story arc and a past that just makes you want to hug the life out of him. There’s a reason people felt protective of him these past few chapters.
But he’s no child. The moment Hawks revealed his true intentions, Twice knew what he was in for. And he’s been warned over and over and over again. He chose not to litsen. Hawks gave him as many chances as he could, held off on the deed as long as he could have. Do you think he made that choice lightly? Considering my entire wordvomit above... I sincerely doubt it.
In conclusion, is it sad that Twice is most likely dead? Yes, very much so. He was a great character and it’s sad to see him go. But does Hawks deserve even a sliver of the hate he’s getting for it? I personally believe not. Because it’s not like he made the decision lightly and had fun doing it. He didn’t want to do it. He hated having to. And he did all he could to try and avoid it. It’s just that in the end, his hand was forced. If he hadn’t done it, all the heroes in that raid would have eventually been overrun and killed. You can hate Hawks all you want, but these are just facts.

I have nothing to do so could you recommend any Rammstein things to watch and read? Pretty please
Ok strap in loosers we’re gonna be here for a while XD (tbh I kind of missed composing wierd ass-long lists so thanks for the opportunity
Rammstein things to watch
I remember when I got into this fandom (aka half a year ago) I was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of R+ material. Still am. There are live recordings for almost every show! You could watch 500 lives and still not be done with it!!
Ok so besides all the materials on their channel and all the dvd lives they released (it’s really easy to find and download them, really) you have this really nice masterpost of earlyish and relevant performances. SEID BEREIT, Amadeus83 and Amadeus 84 are also included in said list but they have tons of videos so check them out.
And these are all things from my watch later list (either for watching later or just for storing): Rammstuga (has also some bloopers and funny moments - tho let’s be honest, with Rammstein everything is funny… when it’s not kinky, at least), Bucksttabu (lives and a bunch of demos from which I really have to point out Schwarzes Glas and Panterra aka Pussy meets Gib mir deine Augen just because I want and can - and love them), Doktor Flake (some early lives and interviews), MrOtto1939, MrRammstein1966, Ashot M. RAMMSTEIN-ARMENIA, Rammsteinfans Germany(with theBizarre Festival in 1996because I really love Laichzeit and some interviews as well), RammWiki (early stuff + some pre-Rammstein), another Bizzare Festival but this time from 1997,that really nice VIVA JAM Interview from 1997(that sometimes disappears from the face of YT? I this still a problem?)… hmmm i don’t know ab OuT tHa Aa at….,,,.. not L iK e a bAnANa…???.?
(you can see I started to take it less and less serious the further I wentdown the rabbit hole I was already snorting Rammstein memes up the nose at thelast 2 videos XD)
The only reason I have interviews up there is because the channels I listed happened to also have some interviews. To be honest I haven’t watch that many, for some reason… I can probably count them on one hand?
I ugh…. at one point, I had this wet dream of listing ALL their live performances with youtube links to ALL of them but… I could probably be quarantined for 3 more years and still not be done with it (is there something like this? did someone already do it? I really need all my performances in chronological order more than I need air you don’t unDERSTAND-)
Also the R+ meme tag. You can both watch and read that shit XD
Rammstein things to read
*cracks fingers again* *whispers* i love shoving fan ficition down people’s throats
First and foremost, I’ll always put FeatheredShadow (also on tumblr I’m so sorry I don’t know your name >.Arrestzelle (aka Brig) at the top of the list. Always.
I made a few weeks ago some lists with fanfiction I abolutely love and adore (be it smutty or not), wierd, unusual and fucked up fics and niche/rare fics. Basically read everything from the R+ fic tag and you should be good. Oh and you also have this list (which is not mine).
Obviously in the meantime I discovered some more gems but I don’t know if I should edit the original posts to add the fics ontheir proper (top) place, reblog the post with the new additions or makean entierly different post. I just started delving into DeviantArt but I’m at the beginning and I still have LiveJournal and fanficion dot net to go.
Anyway, I really have to mention these:
Hol mich ins Sternenreich by RomanKerze – Till/Richard, Till/Schneider, Richard/Paul and Richard/Schneider; puppy play, no smut, sub!Till and Richard, excelent, 12/10 would recommend again.
Mit Dir Bin Ich Auch Allein by struwwel– Till/Richard, romance, slow burn, hurt/comfort, gonna destroy your heart and all your feelings… it’s awesome. The characters are so well written and usHNSfejicfs everything is perfect.
I really have no words to describe how much i love these 2 fics I could praise them a whole day and still not be done with it (I want to read them again T_T). And while you are busy with these, I’ll go and add to the list the other fanfics I found (this is already too long).
So… have fun and see you in a few years when you finish watching/reading all this? :D

The Character Defence: Broly
In the few years that I have been a Dragon Ball Z fan, I’ve grown to love so much of it. But there is a trend that occurs in every fandom and in truth, every person. The constant battles and bickering about characters. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and clearly this is mine but I’ve seen some tremendous hate for him but I’m going to put forward a defence of Broly.
1) Broly is Non-Canon. For the Dragon Ball community, canon has been a shifty thing. A general consensus seems to point to one solid conclusion: If Toriyama didn’t write it, it’s non-canon. This is to help ease over fans who try to fight over this particular point and hopefully this closes that particular wound: Your love for a character is your love. It may not matter if it belongs within the cannonical storyline but no one can take away the joy you have about your favorite character(s).
I personally love the Super Saiyan 4 transformation from GT. I love the design and everything about it and I readily accept that it’s not part of canon. I accept it because in the end, it doesn’t diminish the love I have for the form itself and Broly not being in canon shouldn’t make you love him less.
2) Broly is too OP. This is almost a joke at Dragon Ball itself. The premise of the show follows Goku & co battling enemies far stronger than any enemy before. If they weren’t, it would get boring really quickly. But Broly seems to reserve a special kind of resentment and confusion in this regard. To the best of my knowledge, he is currently the only character confirmed to be a galaxy buster by an on screen demonstration. By comparison, the villain that would make the most sense in terms of what characters that were present for a scale would be Cell (based on the appearance of Future Trunks and Pre-Super Saiyan 2 Gohan. It most likely would be placed during the ten day wait for the Cell games if established in mainstream canon)
Now already this sounds like I’m reiterating old facts that everyone knows but I do so for a good reason. It’s been expressed multiple times throughout the series, in particular the Tournament of Power, that a Saiyan has every capability of surpassing their current limits. (Spoilers) Vegeta expresses this himself to Belmod in the ToP when Goku is going for his final battle against Jiren when he achieves Ultra Instinct again.
What should also be common knowledge is the Zenkai boost ability. A quick recap: Zenkai boost is what a Saiyan gets when placed near death and then allowed to recover. Best example is during the Frieza Saga after Goku heals in the medical pod. It allows the Saiyan’s power to rise exponentially at a near 33% rate (based on Vegeta’s power level Pre-Recoome and Post-Recoome) on average though it could vary.
A Saiyan’s ability to surpass limits coupled with a near death power boost is how Broly could have gotten so strong. After all, it’s quite clear that throughout his childhood, Paragus was less than exceptional as a father and used Broly as more of a tool than anything, most likely leading to quite a few Zenkai boosts before the events of the first movie.
Long Story Short: A rough childhood along side his Saiyan genes could easily mean Broly attained his power by simply living through numerous harships.
3) Broly is 1-Dimensional. A fairly common complaint but an important one to him. Broly was born (in movie canon) at the same time as Goku. Goku was quite the fussy kid, meaning that Broly never could really rest easily. Have you heard a baby scream without stopping? But beyond the constant screaming, it’s also the day Broly gets stabbed in the chest and when Planet Vegeta is destroyed. Broly endured a lot of trauma, more than people give him credit for. Of course he’s going to associate everything negative in his life with Goku. His earliest memories were hearing him scream, being stabbed and nearly dying in a planet wide explosion.
Remeber how I said Paragus was a particularly bad father? He also had a hand to play. Paragus would have used Broly’s exceptionally high power level to his advantage and would no doubt use him like a weapon. Broly’s only interaction prior to the movie was casually destroying and killing at his father’s behest.
Without a doubt if Broly had received a similar up bringing to Goku, he would be radically different. While he would still associate his near death to Goku, it wouldn’t consume him. It would more so just make him give Goku the cold shoulder at best and maybe hostile remarks at worst, rather than a direct murder attempt. Being treated like a weapon and being forced to fight no doubt left him with a mental state that though such acts of violence would get him praised and allow him to get attention.
Long Story Short: A bad childhood followed by worse parenting are to blame for Broly’s mental state rather than lazy writing.
4) Broly went out like a sucker. He did but upon some thought, it would make sense. Where Goku punched him at the end of the first movie was also where he was stabbed as a child. In a way, it’s an almost tragic poetic flaw; his first wound that nearly killed him would later be the wound that almost kills him again. Upon watching the battle he has with the Z-Fighters, he has no other weak points. He took a full powered Kamehameha point blank for fun but that’s because the blast hit a wide area rather than a focused point.
If you want to bring up the Special Beam Canon and it’s piercing properties, this is where I stop you. Even if Piccolo wanted to use it, he wouldn’t have the time to charge it. Most of the battle is Broly trashing the rest of the fighters with almost no effort on his part. Even if Piccolo did charge it and it was fired, it’s doubtful that he would aim for that ONE spot. Piccolo never knew about it in the first place and would most likely aim for a different area such as the upper chest ala Raditz, the heart or perhaps even the head. But we’ve also seen the attack being deflected, notably during the battle between Piccolo and Imperfect Cell. Who’s to say Broly couldn’t deflect it similarly?
5) Broly mistook Goten for Goku. (Spoilers) For those that don’t know, Broly survives the events of his first movie and arrives on earth in the second. There he is frozen (for what the movie guide describes as several years) until his is awoken by Goten crying near by. When Broly goes under, the events of the battle are entierly fresh in his mind. So much so that his is in a state of flight-or-fight because of his near death. He is awoken by the sounds of crying, crying that reminds him all too vividly of his own traumatic childhood and he simply wants it to end. The last thin he really sees is Goku’s face (before he blows up, escapes in a pod and makes his way to earth?) and since Goten is an almost exact carbon copy of him, Broly simply lashes out with animalistic insinct.
His near death and sudden awakening from his traumatic past hitting him again throws what rational thought he has out as he wants to SURVIVE. In his mind, killing Goten (Goku by extension) would end that torment for him. The last thing from his past would be laid to rest and he could relax.
That brings us back to his mental state. He’s fine when he encounters everyone else. I dare say he even smiles when he is introduced to everyone. But upon seeing Goku (Goten by extension after a few years), his thoughts of peace are shattered as the one trigger that brings back all the torment he’s endured stares him in the face. He simply seems to exhibit a very violent survival reflex.
6) Why was Broly almost killed? Less of a complaint and more of a good question. Broly was born with a power level of 10,000. King Vegeta at the time was barely above that. No doubt the king gave it consideration as to using Broly. But what would happen if one day Broly didn’t want to take orders from the king? What could he do against a warrior who’s power would ecplipse his own once he became an adult?
Had King Vegeta not ordered his death, Broly may have even grown strong enough to challenge Frieza long before Goku would have, beating the tyrant and becoming the greatest warrior ever known. Dragon Ball could be a whole lot different with that train of thought.
7) Broly one shots too many characters. This basically ties into my “Broly is too OP” argument. But lets go a bit further into detail by comparing his fight with the Z-Fighters against them vs Cell. Cell (Perfect and Super Perfect) took the likes of Future Trunks, Vegeta, Goku and Gohan to beat, easily the most powerful characters at the time. But during that fight, each fighter worked individually or as a tag team in some cases to bring down Cell.
Broly functioned in a very similar fashion for most of it. But where they diverge is how they ended. Cell was beaten by a Super Saiyan 2 Gohan after an intense beam struggle. Broly was beaten by four fighters (Gohan, Trunks, Piccolo and Vegeta) channeling their power into Goku who then beat Broly. That is the final nail in the coffin for this argument.
Gohan during the fight received no ki transfers from the other fighters and barely beat Cell during the beam struggle. Goku on the other hand took noticeable leaps in power with each ki transfer. Pre-Vegeta boost Goku almost punched directly through Broly’s ki barrier, meaning that there was very little difference remaining. After receiving Vegeta’s power, Goku was finally strong enough to push through Broly’s ki and strike him, ending the events of the first movie. The difference is simple for this comparison: Gohan worked alone as a Super Saiyan 2 and barely won while Goku received energy from four other fighters and ended the lengthy battle with one strike.
Why does this matter? Because it gives us a scale. In the main canon, Buu was the only one held to a similar power level. He tore apart planets left and right and while not explicitly seen trashing galaxies (feel free to correct me if I’m wrong here or at any point), it is heavily implied he did. Broly direclty showed us his power by trashing a galaxy in the beginning of his movie, giving us a clear indicator to his power. Compared to Cell who COULD reach similar heights but never did, it’s pretty easy to see why he can trash around other characters so easily. I won’t say he’s stronger than Buu who took a Super Saiyan 3 Goku to kill while Broly was handled by a Super Saiyan Goku with four fighters, it’s pretty easy to see how he is able to beat most other fighters.
All in all, Broly receives a bit more flak than he actually deserves. He’s a character who went through a lot of suffering very early on in his life and rather than be given the chance to move on and recover, he was used as a weapon and treated as such for most of his life. He is a powerful individual in the Dragon Ball universe that is a very serious contender on the villain roster. Had he been given a better up bringing, Dragon ball would be very different and would see him as the most powerful player on the character roster. Canon or not, Broly has made quite the impact on the fandom as a whole and certainly deserved his spotlight in the games and movies. In the end, he’s an example of what even Goku could have been if he received a Saiyan upbringing instead of his earthling one. Also, apologies if there are spelling mistakes throughout.

My hero academia 213 How to Destroy Potential
My hero academia Chapter 213 has to put it bluntely, been controversial to say the least. the only reason its not the most controversial part of this series, is due to the handling of endeavor.
some are okay with it, and thinks it’s got a lot of potential. others just see it as a blatant rethreading of the road that in the end destroyed Both Bleach and Naruto, two series that at their height was the cream of the crop of not only shonen, but the entire manga medium(at least if one goes by sales numbers), but as the story went on, completely fell in over themselves, and abandoned the things fans loved about the series. In the End fans of bleach got so fed up with the series, that it got canceled in the middle of its final fight. one does not get a more humiliating fall than that.
and now, MHA is seemingly going down the same road. that road of course, being powerscaling.
Powerscaling is a very tricky buisiness, as for any series with superpowers, you will at some point have to establish a hierarcy, of who is at the bottom, the middle, and easily the most important one, at the top.
How strong characters can be in a setting, is immensely important, because that one simple question, determines how strong/usefull any character not at the very top can be in the grand scheme of things.
it is also very important to put a ceiling on how strong a character can become, lest the need for characters to always get stronger and stronger, means that they will reach a point where the only thing that matters anymore is brute strength.
naruto at the end of its series, had essentially destroyed itself due to the fact that its main characters were now so powerfull, that literarly everyone else was worthless in comparison.
bleach went the opposite route, with a villain that was so broken and powerfull, that there was no way his defeat was EVER going to be satisfying, and in the end people didnt care anymore, once the end was reached, and it was killed before its time.
In MHA’s case, the road so many people think its going down, is the road, of Naruto, with its protagonist Izuku Midoriya, gaining 6 entierly new powers, which for Many, Many reasons, threatens to break this story across its knee.
Now i will not go into wheter these powers were well foreshadowed. ive seen both arguments, with many being frustrated they come out of nowhere, while some saying its been foreshadowed since chapter 2.
What i want to focus on, are the powers themselves, and the implications they have on Izuku, and the entire rest of the cast.
Izuku midoriya, at the start of the series, obtained the quirk One for All, a quirk passed on through the generations, which seemingly only granted immense superhuman strength, and all that comes with that(speed, power, and to some extent durability).
for the past 200 chapters, we have explored the drawbacks and powers of this quirk. its unmatched sheer power, but also that its a quirk that one needs to master over time, and if the new user isnt given time to adapt to it, it will destroy the users limbs.
and this was not a for show flaw either. over the course of this series, izuku, again and again used the quirk freely in order to overcome his obstacles, and in the end, he damaged his arms with permanent nerve damage, with the promise that if it happened once or twice more, he would suffer full use of his arms.
in order to compensate for this, he did something you almost never see in any series. he completely ditched his original style of fighting in favor of one that had nothing to do with his old one, but allowed him to use his legs instead of his now damaged arms in order to minimize risk of further damage.
izukus entire journey was about achieving control, over a power he already had achieved, and in the end he was forced to completely rework his powers to achieve success.
then, after we got a full sense of what izuku could do at 100% power, izuku would go on to try and fix one of his main weaknesses, his lack of a ranged attack.
and using his own newfound grasp over his powers, and a bit of tech help, izuku did so, developing a quite usefull ranged attack.
Izuku at this point had reached around 20%/30% of his full power potential, and was really starting to come into his own.
then a completely new power emerged, and izuku was told by one of the previous users of one for all, that in no uncertain terms he would develop 6 entierly new quirks, and that this was the real true potenital of One for All.
This reveal completely redefined the entire series, izukus journey, the potential of EVERYONE ELSE, and how things would be going foreward.
Uncertainty---
Now the first defence against those who like the reveal, and doesnt think this makes izuku overpowered, is that we dont know what any of the new quirks are, other than Izuku’s new Black Whip.
and they are right. we dont know what they are. and thats a big problem.
Now whenever Izuku is in a bad spot, there will always be a chance that the stress will kick in and activate a new quirk, and turn the tide of battle.
it doesnt matter if this never, ever happens. the problem is that its something that we now know COULD happen, and thus it decreases any tension out of any fight izuku will ever have between now and when the final quirk is revealed. Thusly, izuku having these quirks have now dealt a mortal blow against any tension his fight may have had.
Now, to be fair, i want to show a case of this kinda trope done right to compare it to. Naruto and ichigos, kyuubi and hollow transformations before either of them mastered their transformations.
the reason why both of these worked, is that while there was always the possibility that they would just go loose and fix whatever was happening(which is exactly what happened in several cases) we the audience had an advantage we do not have with Izuku’s quirks. we knew what both the hollow powers and the kyuubi could do. while there was the obvious question of just how strong either of these could become before the MC just lost all control, we knew and understood what both these forms could do, and what would lead them to emerge.
we do not have this with izuku’s quirks. we dont know what any of them except Black Whip can do. as my buddy Quirkquartz put it, izuku might have a healing quirk thats powerfull enough to fix his arms and all injury ever. thats probably not gonna be the case, but then again, it could be. We DONT know.
how strong izukus quirks end up being is immaterial. as long as we dont know what any of these quirks are, there is always the chance that they will turn out to be something that will completely fix whatever the issue is at the moment.
and all the way from now and until we learn what the final revealed quirk is, that will be a massive problem.
Replacing other now obsolete characters---
One of the most obvious and blatant problems with giving izuku more quirks, is that it makes other characters irrelevant. ill go over the full problems with powerscaling later, but lets focus on the most obvious and blatant problem, as its actually a problem already.
the fact that izukus quirks will probably end up flat out just be other characters powers, just better.
and unlike other concerns about this reveal, this one has actually happened already.
Izuku’s black whip, is essentially the quirk of his fellow classmate Sero, just better in every way. and what that means is that any chance sero ever had of being relevant and unique just died.
One of the biggest problems of powercreep is when the only thing that matters is brute power, and the only thing that matters is who is the most powerfull guy on the team.
that is a legitimate concern of where this might all head, but there is another problem with powercreep when it comes to developing new powers.
flat out making characters obsolete.
what is the point of sero, now that izuku can do what he can do, just better? the answer is that there isnt any. Sero might as well have died, given that any potential he had to be somewhat unique just got destroyed by izuku getting a power which is his, just better.
to illustrate the importance of uniqueness, ill give an example of a character who is the weakest of his entire group, yet has one nitche that only he can do.
Usopp from one piece, is the weakest fighter of the entire strawhat pirates, bar none. yet he is also the sniper of the crew, and when it comes to long range situations, there simply arent anyone in the crew who comes even close to doing what he can do at that range.
this has lead to him being instrumental several times in the manga, saving the day, when no one else could, because even though there are plenty of enemies he just cannot beat, he is still a worthwhile character who can do stuff no one else can do.
Now, with the introduction of Black Whip, we will never see a similar situation for Sero. he’s irrelevant, and to put it bluntly, obsolete.
and there is a genuine fear that this will happen again when other quirks are introduced. whats there to say the next one wont be an explosion power, which is probably more powerfull than bakugous?
Making previous development meaningless---
like the previous point, this one is also a problem thats already happened. namely that the introduction of Black Whip, just made izukus previous development of a ranged attack pointless. maybe once izuku really gets a massive grip of OFA, and his ranged air attack become ridiculously powerfull, it will be relevant again, but at that point, he could just punch like all might and get the same effect.
which brings up the question. if the next devlopment is to master black whip, then what the hell was the point of izuku devloping a ranged attack?
again, there isnt any. ranged wind attack is now flat out overshadowed for its intended purpose, and will now be a niche ability.
Unnecesary Powers and lack of creativity---
And now we get to delve into the subject of the concept of the OP character, and wheter izuku qualifies or not.
one argument ive seen leveled over and over, is that izuku was always going to be overpowered, so giving him extra quirks isnt a problem in the grand scheme of thing. after all, he’s gonna be overpowered either way right?
which raises a question. wheter izuku actually is going to become overpowered or not(a question ill dive into in the next section), did he need more powers? what was wrong with his established set? was simple superhuman strength a power which simply didnt work in the long run?
There is some legitimate critisism on the subject, in that izukus fights for a long time, tended to end the same, unless it was a curbstomp. izuku would simply get angry and hit them really really hard, and often break his body in the process.
and there is some genuine problems there. many pf izukus fights were indeed like that. i would argue however, that this was a problem on Koheis part, rather than an inherited problems with OFA itself.
After all, there are plenty of moments where izuku uses his strength in order to win in other ways than just hitting people directly. izukus first fight with bakugou was won like that, and him saving himself, tsuyu and mineta on the boat was a great combination attack.
The big problem is that kohei has relied on enemies with direct power against izuku far too often.
Overhaul was building up to be a direct counter to that. a physically normal man, with ridiculous powers, that was more than a match for izuku. then he became a punching bag in order to demonstrate how strong izuku is at 100%
Gentle was similar, then at the very end, La Brava revealed her quirk to be one which powered gentle up drasticly, turning their fight into yet another power struggle(though addmitingly one which izuku won withouth destroying himself).
The big problem is that when it comes to izukus fights, kohei has lately relied far too mutch on hard hitters to fight izuku, rather than letting fights like izukus vs gentle or overhaul to reach a logical conclusion. instead coming back to the age old power struggle.
Yet he has proven over the series that he can write better than that, and in my opinion, the big problem is that he simply hasnt when its come to izukus fights.
and, now, lets go over the big subject, the one that defines this debate.
Powerscaling in all its messy glory----
The big, big question that is asked again and again with this devlopment, is, doesnt this make izuku OP as fuck? and often those who like the idea to redirect the question with replies like, and so what? he was always going to be OP, this changes nothing. or the tried and true, lets wait and see how Kohei writes it.
lets begin with the biggest question, was Izuku always going to be OP?
the answer is both Yes and no. he was always going to be OP in that his brute force was never going to be matched, thats true enough, and the entire series has been built upon that premise. however, that doesnt mean that izuku would be able to solve every single problem he would face on his own, nor that he could beat every single enemy he ever faced.
if you actually look at 1-a’s powerset, there is an obvious collection of flat out combat quirks(which makes sense given the entrance exam) but there is also a large variety of powers.
Acid, explosions, fire/ice, lasers, electricity, shadow, sound. these are all direct combat quirks, yet none of them are usefull for direct physical combat.
of the direct physical combat(and nothing else) fighters there are 6; tsuyu, kirishima, ojirou, tenya, shoji and sato.
now, lets look at these in full and see how they compare in potential for one for all.
Tsuyu, has superhuman strenght and agilty and a incredibly long and strong toungue. also has camouflage powers, which OFA does not have anything resembling, and can also climb on walls.
Kirishima, is superhumanly durable to an insane degree. how this compares to OFA durability at both of their heights is unknown, but it could consievably be more durable than a OFA user after kirishima has hammered it as far as it could go.
ojirou, has a tail. OFA is and always will be better.
Tenya, has ridiculously high speed, and at this current stage is FAR faster than izuku, and could possibly grow even faster. how a possible max speed would compare to AFO is unknown, but its completely possible that tenya would be the flash to izukus superman.
Shoji, has transformation powers, which is often used for direct combat but can also be used for other things like scouting by sound, leave behind dropped off body parts for distractions or decoys and probably other usefull things.
and finally sato, who grows superhumanly strong when he consumes sugar. his max strenght seems to be far inferior to izuku already at this stage.
so, out of the entire class, only two members had nothing to bring to the table which OFA could not do better in every way, no question.
does this mean that all of the quirks had the potential to reach OFA’s level? of course not, but that didnt mean they had to be useless.
after all, characters like sero could fill their own niche. oh wait.
the big problem with giving izuku even one more quirk(much less 6) is that suddenly he can do stuff that other characters can do, just much better. and this isnt something we speculate on. its already happened. Black whip is better than seros quirk in every way. the moment izuku gets any grip on black whip, sero serves no point.
which leads to the next point.
one argument against this being a terrible idea for the story as a whole, is that its not likely that izuku will have mastered these quirks right out of the gate. and that is true. it will probably take izuku as long a time to truely master black whip as it took to master his original powers. but that doesnt really matter, in the grand scheme of things. because wheter it takes a week, a month or a year, the end result remains the same. Black Whip will have made sero a completely obsolete character. there simply isnt any way around that.
izuku will make more and more characters obsolete everytime he unlocks another quirk. wheter the next is mineta, jirou, kirishima or even todoroki and bakugou, each time it happens someone will become the new yamcha.
which leads me to the next point. there is no point of any other characters training to be the next number one hero, as this devlopment will have killed any shot todoroki or bakugou ever had of matching up to izuku in any way.
the bakugou/izuku rivalry is effectively over, as there isnt any way bakugou could even hope to measure up to izuku now.
it was a tall order with izuku only having one for all, but idd argue that its impossible now, that he’s got more than OFA.
Hell, even with just black whip, izukus potential is now so wast that it dwarfs any other. BW pretty mcuh removes all the few drawbacks of a fully mastered OFA, namely its lack of range beyond moving wind currents and bursts. izuku could potentially have been left helpless in the air open to counterattacks, even after fully having mastered OFA. with BW, that “pesky”weakness has now been removed.
the simple fact of the matter is that One for ALL was such a powerfull quirk that giving it ANY boost beyond its already established powers, had the severe risk of completely undermining every single other characters. 6 entierly new and probably all very powerfull quirks on top of it?
i simply cannot see any way that will be done well and these powers will benefit the story, even by an author who has done no wrong. and kohei is not one such.
this development is not a sudden sign that kohei is becoming a terrible writer. he’s been fucking up for a while now.
He wasted all the potential of the overhaul arc, which had so much potential, that was flushed down the toilet, and he completely failed to make me(and many, MANY others) feel anything in regards to Endeavors “redemption” arc.
Kohei is capable of writing great stuff still, the festival arc was great, this recent arc has been wonderfull up until pretty recently, and ive loved so much of what has happened over the last year.
But he isnt a writer who makes no mistakes. and quite frankly, im tired of the argument that we should wait and see. i waited and saw during the overhaul arc. it did not have a finale that i particularly loved. i waited and saw during the endeavor arc. and again, i didnt get anything i wanted out of that conclusion, neither endeavor losing an eye, a real confrontation between endeavor and dabi, nor endeavors potential death, which is what i expected and wanted out of that arc.
im tired of waiting and seeing. this is a terrible and quite possibly a point of no return for MHA quality and potential, and im gonna call it out as such.
