sai for the ask game!
HOO HOO! my little guy!
answers under the cut! honestly i think this is the best sai ive ever drawn.
favorite thing about them — LMFAO he was my favorite character and the only character i actually liked when i was like. 14 or whatever, my favorite thing was his crop top :)
least favorite thing about them — sai, please learn to talk about something other than peoples bodies to insult them. stop talking about dicks. stop talking about weight. stop calling people ugly. im begging you to just. stop that. ohhhh it kils me.
favorite line —ok so after he introduces himself to sasuke and sasuke tells him to get lost he says, sai, thoughtfully: "Even when I force myself to smile, it seems I'm the kind of person who ends up being hated." sai, smiling: And Naruto-kun didn't seem to care for me the whole time, too."
brOTP — MMM. sakura. he learns the most from her i think, and despite being on the recieving end of most of his insults she also kind of puts up with him the most and the easiest. i think she probably fascinates sai a little bit.
OTP —i don't rlly care about this kind of thing. his canon ship w/ ino is fine ig, but i also think the concept of sakuinosai is really funny. it would not be a full triangle i think, just both sai and sakura loving ino. i bet the arguments would be hysterical, in that house.
nOTP —again, i don't really care about this sort of thing.
random headcanon —i think he wears really large and body-covering clothes when hes in konoha as a kind of visual for like, feeling uncomfortable and out of place. his clothes don't fit him and he doesn't feel like he fits the place. good luck sai keep trying!
unpopular opinion — i don't think his being rude to people is 100% accidental. its a very popular interpretation that he just straight up fully does not understand that he's being rude + idk if i believe that because he makes the same rude comments over and over and gets the same reaction, and while he's not very good at understanding peoples feelings, we know he can identify anger and frustration. i just see him as such a fundamentally furious character. i dont know how to explain this to people, he seems so mad to me!
song i associate with them —related to the anger thing, Black Me Out by Against Me!, very obviously a song about reclaiming oneself from somebody who had a heinous amount of power over the narrator. the album cover does have like. a breast on it and a cube of meat, so i guess cw on it for clicking that. i love against me! a lot.
"I don't ever want to talk that way again, I don't want to know people like that anymore. As if there was an obligation, As if I owed you something. Black me out. I want to piss on the walls of your house, I want to chop those brass rings off your fat fucking fingers. As if you were a kingmaker. Black me out."
and then
"All the young graves filled. Don't the best stars burn out so bright and so fast? All the young graves filled. Don't the best stars burn out so bright and so fast? Full-body high. I'm never coming down. Black me out."
favorite picture of them
good picture all around. at once he simultaneously looks like hes fucking. awaiting execution or something, and also, thru the only face shown being that of the beast behind him, which he painted (and due to both of these circumstances, carries the implication that it represents his internal state), absolutely ready to tear somebody's throat out. this is the vibe for me. this is the sai vibe.
#yamswers#anonymous#yamanaka-shin#sai yamanaka#i rlly love against me! so much. laura jane grace is great at making songs that rattle me#the first time i ever heard her music it was the song ''true trans soul rebel'' and it like for real shook me to my core#and this one especially makes me insane it makes me wanna bite#like if i listen to it once i end up listening to it for the rest of the day. u feel me?#to be fair with sai i also think about. 'i am a rock' by simon and garfunkle but like. while that one is also angry#its also a little bit too on the nose? and its also like soft and slow#and sai does not feel like a soft and slow character to me#he feels like he has a very nice and neutral face held carefully over a spinning and vicious mechanism of hurt and confusion

Valentine
Ethan x Casey
I haven’t written any fics for quite a while, but with OH3 coming soon I’m getting these vibes again….
I always wondered: what would the closing of Edenbrook mean to E x MC’s relationship? Here’s my attempt to this part of the story.
Sorry in advance for any mistakes, English isn’t my first language.
Warnings: none, I guess (maybe a few smutty thoughts)
Words: 3K
Disclaimer: all characters owned by PB
Participating in @choicesfebchallenge Day14: Valentine
“Good morning Dr. Valentine. This is your day today, isn’t it?” The nurse Rose greeted Casey as she entered the free clinic.
“Good morning. Yeah, I get that a lot.” Casey tried a friendly smile. Since she had been a child everyone referred to her last name on Valentine’s Day, making a remark or joking around. As a teenager it had made her feel special, but by now she was tired of hearing it. Especially today.
She had been in a bad mood since she woke up and it had nothing to do with her last name or Rose. But it had everything to do with the man who simply ignored this day today, probably didn’t even know it existed.
It was perfectly clear to Casey, that these kinds of traditions meant nothing to Ethan. Nevertheless, her disappointment was huge because she had had great expectations for today. After a few difficult weeks she had hoped that a romantic dinner could bring them closer together again.
After the gala and their public kiss everything had seemed perfect and she had spent some time on cloud number nine. But then Ethan gradually became distant and a little grumpy again. They both often worked double shifts and meetings outside the hospital became rare. And they never talked about their life after Edenbrook’s closing. Whenever they got close to that topic, Ethan would change the subject. And Casey was also in denial; she hadn’t applied to any jobs outside greater Boston because she didn’t want to lose Ethan. But maybe it was too late now anyway, she didn’t even know what point in their relationship they really were at.
“Has he told you yet?” Sienna interrupted her thoughts.
“Hi Sienna. No, I still have no idea what we’re doing tonight.”
“Oh, that’s so romantic. For sure he has something incredibly special planned for the two of you.”
Casey tried to maintain a cheerful façade even though she actually felt like crying. But Sienna’s enthusiasm was also kind of sweet, so she managed a smile.
“You seem more excited than I am.”
“I’m hosting a lonely-hearts roomie dinner tonight, so at least let me enjoy the romance in your life.”
Casey felt bad that she was being dishonest with her friend. It was silly, but she would rather spend the night at the movies on her own and then sleep in an on-call room than admit to her friend that Ethan wasn’t going to take her out on a date. Besides, talking about it would make it more real: their relationship was probably on the rocks.
A busy morning at the clinic kept Casey occupied and gave her no opportunity to dwell on her misery. As she was preparing an IV for a patient, she suddenly sensed someone right behind her.
“Dr. Valentine, can you please run some tests on this patient and then get back to me as soon as possible?”
Usually her favorite baritone voice quickened her heartbeat, but today it sounded businesslike and not appealing at all. When she turned around Ethan didn't meet her gaze. Instead, he just thrust a patient chart into her hand and was gone before Casey even had the chance to respond.
At first, she stood there with her mouth open, unable to move, a dreadful feeling spreading through her chest. She had barely seen him all week and that was all she got?
When her vision started to get blurred by tears, she quickly ran to a supply closet, locked the door and sank to the floor.
What now? She couldn’t decide whether she was more sad or mad. How could it be, that things went wrong so fast after everything they had been through together? And how dare he talk to her like a random intern, shoving that patient file into her hands so rudely. He wasn't even her boss anymore.
She still held the chart clutched to her chest and now wanted to check what seemed so urgent. But what she saw didn't make any sense. There was only a last name on it and an address, but everything else was blank. As she turned the page her heart took a leap. She wiped away a few tears and stared at the blank piece of paper. Two words stared back at her.
Dinner tonight?
When she finally remembered to breathe again, she flipped back to the first page and now the pieces were falling into place.
Sorellina, Huntington Ave.
She knew the name had sounded familiar. “Sorellina” wasn't a patient's name; it was the name of a fancy Italian restaurant in the Back Bay. To be sure she pulled out her phone and searched the internet. And what she found there brought a bright smile to her face.
…the ultimate destination if you're looking to really impress a date…
.. one of the most romantic spots in the city…
…awesome place for date nights…
So he didn’t forget after all! But why the strange behavior? Some things didn’t add up. You don’t get a reservation like this one day in advance. He must have planned this weeks ago. A lot had changed since and now maybe he just wanted to give them one last shot? He wouldn’t be so heartless to dump her on Valentine’s day, would he?
Casey was totally confused. Was she just misinterpreting the whole situation? But she couldn’t be that paranoid. Something was brewing and she was determined to find out tonight, no matter what. This time she would confront him and for once she wouldn’t let him off the hook so easily.
But first she had to get through the day somehow, and she had to head home during her lunchbreak to choose a breathtaking dress. And pack an overnight bag, just in case. Not to forget the special brand of scotch she had ordered for Ethan. And she had to tell Sienna. And…
Okay! First of all, she had to calm down and concentrate on her work. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Then she took a pen out of her pocket and wrote below Ethan’s message.
Tell me when and where and I’ll be there 💕
After leaving the supply closet she randomly grabbed two other files, placed hers in between and handed them to an intern. “Please get this to Dr. Ramsey immediately.” Then she went back to her patient, who was still waiting for his IV.
The day seemed to drag on endlessly. In the afternoon she found the piece of paper out of the fake patient file in her coat pocket.
Dinner tonight?
Tell me when and where and I’ll be there 💕
my office, 7 pm 😊
He had even drawn an emoji! Smiling she added one more line.
Dessert at your place?
Then she quickly ran upstairs, sneaked into Ethan’s office, and put the piece of paper onto his desk. Her eyes fell on the big clock on the wall: 4 pm! Three more hours to go.
*******
Ethan sat behind his desk, already dressed in his tux, trying to focus on some files. But instead of working, he kept repeating in his head what he wanted to say tonight.
It was ridiculous. Usually, he gave speeches in front of hundreds of fellow doctors and here he was, being nervous about talking to one single woman. The difference was that he felt very qualified to talk about his profession, but he was totally insecure when it came to talking about his feelings. With Casey, he wasn't Dr. Ramsey, a famous and respected diagnostician; with her, he was simply Ethan, a man struggling with the changes in his life.
The sound of high heels echoed through the hallway and announced Casey's arrival. Trying to calm his nerves Ethan busied himself with his paperwork as she entered the office. He didn't raise his head, instead he just glanced at her over the rims of his glasses. As he did, she put her hands on her hips, pushing the winter coat aside to give him full view of her stunning dress. And it had the desired effect. The small piece of black nothingness took his breath away.
“Dr. Ramsey, don't you think it's inappropriate to look at a colleague that way?”
He swallowed hard, but he wouldn’t let her tease him like that.
“Dr. Valentine, don't you think it's inappropriate to wear something like that in your workplace?”
She smirked at him.
“Not as much as taking it off right here in your office.”
Defeated he shook his head, a smile showing at the corners of his mouth. He had to fight the urge to leap over his desk and take her right there against the office door, but instead he only sighed deeply and reached for his coat. This had to wait.
“We better get going or I don't know what I'll do!”
Together they left the office and walked to his car, holding hands. But despite their little banter just now there was an odd silence between them.
*******
The restaurant really was the perfect setting for a special date. Casey was overwhelmed and also kind of intimidated by the atmosphere. To her, it felt more like a first date with a guy she had a crush on than a dinner with the man she had been dating for month. And Ethan seemed equally self-conscious. But after some champagne, they both loosened up and had a really great time.
Almost.
Casey knew Ethan too well by now not to notice that something was strange about him tonight. She couldn’t shake that nagging feeling in her gut.
Back in his apartment, after she had given him her gift, he sat down on the couch with a serious face and asked her to sit down as well.
“I have something for you, too”
Blushing slightly, he handed her a small box and rubbed the back of his neck.
“I wanted to…, I mean this is… Oh, just open it and then I’ll explain!”
Carefully, she lifted the lid of the box and saw, lying on a tiny silk cushion, a key. From the looks of it, she assumed it was the key to his apartment. Casey gave Ethan a questioning look and waited for the promised explanation. But it didn’t come. Ethan seemed uncomfortable and pinched the bridge of his nose. Finally, he just blurted it out.
“Want to move in with me?”
Of all the things she had expected him to say, this certainly wasn’t on the list. But why now? Hundreds of different thoughts whirled through Casey’s head all at once. At first she just stared at him, then she burst into tears. For a long time Ethan looked at her helplessly, finally he ran a hand through his hair in frustration and murmured: “Obviously not.”
At that, Casey’s head snapped up. “No, no, no! I do, of course I do!” She wiped some tears from her face and explained between occasional sobs.
“The thing is: Whenever I imagined moving in with you, I got sad about not living with my friends anymore. And now I’ve just realized it doesn’t matter because in a couple of weeks they’ll all be gone anyway, scattered across the country. I’m going to miss them so much. And since I don’t know where I am going to be, there’s no point in moving in with you either.”
She shook her head, trying to keep the tears at bay.
“I’m sorry I’m such a mess, it just seems that everything is falling apart. This morning I wasn’t even sure whether you want to break up with me or not and I thought that…”
“Whoa, hold it right there. What on earth are you talking about?”
From Ethan’s shocked expression Casey could tell that it had obviously never occurred to him to break up. Slightly embarrassed she continued in an unsteady voice.
“I mean, the way you’ve been acting lately, especially this morning, you’ve been so rude….”
Ethan gently caressed her cheek with the back of his hand, wiped away her tears, and sighed.
“Oh Casey, I’m so sorry. But you know me; you know that I hate talking in front of patients. And I had a lot on my mind; I’ve been nervous all day about our date.”
He smiled shyly and shook his head. Then his gaze darkened again, guilt clearly written on his face. His brows furrowed, and he backed away a little.
“Although you’re right that I’ve been putting some distance between us lately. But I needed clarity about the whole job situation. And us. All my life I’ve planned everything three steps ahead and then suddenly it felt like I was losing control. I know I can’t ask you to stay because you have to finish your residency at one of the best hospitals in the country. Thus, I have tortured myself to figure out how we can make things work and I’ve been miserable all this time. Until I realized the answer is fairly simple.”
Casey couldn’t believe that they had both been so distraught for weeks, and instead of sharing and confiding in each other, they were just brooding over the challenges ahead, each to their own. Slowly, the uneasy feeling inside her stomach began to dissipate, although she had no idea what he was talking about.
“What answer?”
Ethan took her hand and he gently drew circles on the back of it with his thumb, his eyes following its movement.
“Edenbrook has been my home for almost 12 years now, and if they take it away from me, what else is there? Naveen, of course, and my father nearby, but other than that ….”
All this time Casey held the box with the key in one hand. Now he took it from her and raised the key to eye level. Her gaze wandered back and forth between the key and Ethan. He cleared his throat in search of words, but they didn’t come. Her heart hammered in her chest, the tension almost unbearable. Finally, his blue eyes met hers and he found the courage to speak, his voice husky and low.
“This isn’t just the key to my apartment, Casey. This key means I want to live with you, wherever that may be.”
His last words were only a whisper. “If you’ll have me, that is.”
Casey couldn’t even begin to grasp what it all meant. She would be able to apply to any hospital in the country and Ethan would be with her. Live with her.
An overwhelming feeling of happiness spread through her body.
“You really would do this for me?”
“No, if I’m honest I’m doing this not for you but for myself. I don’t want to go back to being that grumpy cynic I once was before I met you. I’m lost without you.”
The full meaning of his words sent a prickling sensation down her spine, but she was also amused.
“Ethan, you’re one of the most famous and respected physicians, you’ve managed perfectly fine without me for 36 years.”
Ethan put down the key and the box from her hand and took both her hands, his gaze intense.
“But it’s taken me 36 years to find out what it means to be genuinely happy.”
Those last words took all her breath right out of her and her heart was ready to explode. His eyes pierced hers as he waited for a response.
He moved closer und squeezed her hands tightly, his eyes still dark.
“So, what do you say?”
She couldn’t resist the temptation to mess with him.
“Let me get this straight: You’re telling me, if I said no, there would be no one to tell you if you’re acting like a goddam diva again?”
A smile tugged at the corner of his mouth realizing what she was getting at. “Probably.”
Grinning she went on. “And who would be there to help you with your social media accounts?”
“Nobody.”
Ethan’s eyes began to light up as she moved onto his lap, mischief in her smile.
“And there would be no one who would dare to tease you?”
“Right.”
Their faces were now only a breath away.
“And nobody there to make you pancakes?”
“Exactly. What would become of me?”
Her mouth moved to the side of his neck. After a line of soft kisses, she started nibbling on his earlobe and whispered. “And no one, who would do this?”
“Oh, I’m sure it’s not hard to find someb…”
She quickly backed away and punched his arm playfully. “Don’t you dare!”
Ethan was now gleaming all over his face. He tucked a finger under her chin and gently nudged her nose with his. “So is that a YES?”
“Do I even have a choice?”
“Not really!”
And then at last his lips found hers, first slowly, barely touching, until they both gave in and melted into each other. All the tension of the day, all the pent-up emotions of the past weeks fell off and there was only him and her. While the kisses grew more and more urgent, his hands started to roam over her body and slowly he unzipped her dress. As his warm hand gently slid down her back, Casey felt his hot breath on her ear.
“If I remember correctly, you promised me dessert.”
“We already had a selection of delicious Italian desserts.”
“But I’m still very hungry. And first of all, this dress has to go. The sight of it has been tormenting me all evening.”
*****
The bedroom was almost dark. Ethan lay on his back, staring at the ceiling. He was unable to put his mind to rest after the events of the day. He turned over to watch the stunning woman sleeping next to him. The moonlight on her face made her even look more beautiful. From now on, he would have the privilege of waking up to this sight every morning. That thought alone made his heart leap.
Gently, he draped the sheets over her shoulder, brushed her hair out of her face and gave her a soft kiss on the cheek; always careful not to wake her.
Smiling down at her he whispered. “I love you, Casey Valentine.”
Never before had these words left his lips. And now didn’t even count either because she couldn’t hear them. He had tried to tell her many times, but the moment never seemed right. Today would have been the perfect occasion, but he had chickened out again.
It was absurd. They had started to plan their future together. Why was it so hard? Three simple words!
Laying back down he whispered, more to himself.
“I’m going to tell you. Soon.
Maybe tomorrow.”

Thank you if you have made it so far.
This piece has really been a challenge, it took me forever. I’ve changed it a couple of times and I am still not quite satisfied, but at some point you just have to let go.

ok ko storyboarders
ok so i made a post talking about some stuff i really loved about ok ko and one thing i wanted to bring up was all the styles of the storyboarders! in this i’ll talk about each of them and their styles individually. maybe in another post i’ll talk about the dynamic of the pairs because this post on its own is insanely long and adding that would make it even longer
also everything here is subjective
geneva
so one of the first things ive noticed with geneva’s style is how... on model she is (next to ryann). i find it to be really interesting seeing how everyone has taken their liberties with ian allowing them to go off model and she’s stayed the most accurate to the style.
for the most part, i really like how she draws! i feel like the best part about her style is the improvements that she’s made over the course of the first season. the way she currently draws ko is just a little bit more off model than usual, but that’s literally only due to the height of his hair. it’s really good to see that she’s making the ok ko style into her own.
(episode 44 to episode 13 (the first episode she worked on and produced))
i would point out the poses of some of the characters but i feel like i cant since she’s gotten much better at it. none of the silhouettes of the characters she’s drawn nowadays seem very closed or stiff, they express much more than in the earlier episodes!
mira
out of all the other storyboarders, mira seems to go the most off model. it’s very very anime-esque and generally feels very fancy? i’ve noticed that in most (or maybe all) of the episodes she’s boarded, she’s also done the fight scenes that were in it and she’s really good at it! they’re all really smooth and expressive and its clear that she puts quite some thought into her poses like this one.
they both have really clear silhouettes and i love the simple shapes incorporated with them.
she seems to have an issue with facial variety, seeing as everyone she draws seems to have big eyes, big cheeks, and only rarely does she ever draw a circular head with the eyes not hanging over the side of the face. its also a little apparent to me that expressions are not her strong suit, which is a little essential when it comes to a show as exaggerated as ok ko.
these are all from 4 completely different episodes. they all have big cheeks and big eyes and that seems to be about it when it comes to her humanoid characters
ryann
ryann’s style is really cute and gives a nice contrast to parker’s without it seeming like a really big shift. they usually board more wholesome scenes and succeed at it because of how adorable the characters are in her style.
ko also tends to act much cuter with her scenes and more like a child which is something i really really like a lot about her style. i do want to see a fight storyboarded by her in the future though!
i dont have much to say for ryann’s style except for its good.
parker
parker has a really smooth and professional style, it always seems like his lines are a lot smoother than most of the others. i personally dont think there’s too much to say about his style apart from the fact that he has some issues exaggerating expressions and also poses sometimes. he usually has some really funny scenes.
i want to see more dynamic fights from him though, for what we’ve seen from him is average but very smooth. my favorite fight from him was carol vs succulentus. short but really fun.
he also seems like a chill guy (also im sorry i dont have much to say on him oml)
stevie
the first thing to notice about stevie’s boarding style is her strength in like. everything. especially the way she draws expressions. they’re wonderfully exaggerated and really expresses emotions extremely efficiently.
if you tell me that you havent laughed or smiled at any of these scenes then youre probably lying and i will fight you behind cartoon network studios at 3 am.
another thing to note are the poses she draws. more often than not (specifically in action poses) there’s always a ton of movement and they’re always really really dynamic.
danny
danny’s style is really interesting. her style has the most noticable development in it. it used to be quite on model but would give some of the characters a little more exaggerated features (specifically with enid and her really huge thighs). in the most recent episode that she’s boarded which was let’s take a moment, there is quite a contrast in the style. the heads are a lot bigger, bodies are smaller and.... that’s it.
it looks a little off putting because its a really big contrast to every other style, but its certainly not bad. its really cutesy. another minor problem i have with her style is that the arms tend to look kind of not connected to the body. it’s nothing too noticeable but i have an awful habit of seeing stuff like that.
regardless of some of these flaws, danny’s style is really cute and i love how she draws. she’s also pretty good at fight scenes as well.
dave
i dont really know what to say for dave except fo uh?? really good? very dynamic? probably one of the most detailed styles from all of the boarders. there’s a lot of lines on the faces which makes them feel more organic as well as expressive and also adds to the humor a lot.
also have yall seen the amount of detail he puts into gar’s muscles like holy shit
haewon
haewon is probably the most cryptid storyboarder on the show since she doesn’t post anything too often on social media. i also dont have too much to say about haewon’s style except that its really unique. its really flowy as well and inconsistent which always kinda makes it hard for me to tell what scenes she draws. all of her scenes are really funny though and i think that has to do with her style.
one of my favorite scenes that she’s done is from sibling rivalry, that entire sequence with rad and enid arguing. they’re all really squishy and maluable quick is a good quality, especially in squash and stretch.
i dont think she’s done any fight scenes so far but i think it’d turn out well if she did so.
ian
b-whuh? what do u mean ian. hes not a boarder he just does some revisions sometimes
yea i know, so i’ll keep this short and sweet. i feel like i shouldve left him out but at the same time i also feel like i couldnt? yall remember the driving scene in ko’s video channel?
yeah ian did these and hell they’re both really good despite being extremely short scenes.
1. the posing for one is amazing, the silhouettes with each is very clear in both pictures
2. the movement is GREAT, especially in the second one. u can tell that they’re going super fast and that the force is pushing them back without even needing to see outside the window.
anyway i want to see him do one part of a fight that seems like it’d be cool
-
thank u for reading this hellishly long post. i love all the boarders with all my heart and would sell my soul for their skills.

diary entry #2
every once in a while i will meet someone and get this all-consuming feeling that we were in love in another life. i usually only ever get to know them on a very surface level, but feel like ive known them for years. like i learned everything about them in a different world, and it was just within reach if i could only get them to see what i could see. i dont think any of them has ever felt the same.
the first was a boy that i had met when visiting my family down south. i had known him as a child during brief visits once a year, but id never really talked to him until the very last day of one of my trips three summers ago. we sat together—talking and laughing by the pool, innocently flirting at dinner, making awkward goodbyes by the car—and i bubbled with excitement and anxiety as i thought about the next time we would meet. we texted for months after that, but the distance fizzled us out and i was left with the one memory i had and the fantasy of what could be.
it was colder the next time. i only saw him once that year, and it was awkward and quick. friendly greeting, no goodbye.
last summer was different, though. i saw him a lot at first, but i was busy every minute of every day and we hardly had time to speak until the beach day. a big group of people all met at the beach, and i had a total of fifteen minutes that i was free to talk with whoever i wanted. we sat on dirty towels, burying our feet in the pale sand with our backs to the water, looking out at the snow peaked mountain that stood above. we laughed just as we had before, and it reminded me of my stupid feelings. i felt very at home in those moments, and i knew with all of my being that if we lived in the same state we would have been really happy.
i dont know if i am ever going to see him again. if i dont, im okay with how it ended.
my second soulmate was a girl that we moved in next to last year, who probably doesnt remember my name and who i have only actually had one conversation with. besides when she came by to see if we were okay when rainwater flooded our garage, or when we would be leaving as she got home and she would wave at us to ask how we were doing, or when we bumped into each other at a party and i didnt recognize her because i was just a little too fucking inebriated, or when she served us at our favorite little italian restaurant and she told me i should totally apply because she makes bank on tip money. no, this conversation was different. maybe just as trivial, but this time we were alone. she was sitting in front of her garage with a toolbox and a vape pod (i had never thought vaping was attractive until i saw her absentmindedly take a hit, and then quickly blow the vapor out and put the pod down like she didnt even realize she had picked it up) and i was just getting home from a particularly sweaty day at work. she called me over to sit with her. we didnt talk about anything important, but i could tell she had a lot she wanted to say and no one to say it to. i felt like everything i could ever know about her was right within reach, i just needed to crack open the gates. as i was trying to decide whether or not to ask something that i probably would have regretted asking, her friend pulled into the driveway. i stood up and went back home.
the third one is the stupidest. he trained me on my first day in a new position at work. he is a few years older than me, he must be at least in his twenties. i have always thought he was 26, but i dont know if that’s true. at first i couldnt tell if i just respected him in a “please accept me as good enough because my father never told me he was proud of me” way, or a “please take me seriously because i want to fuck you” way. i started checking all the time if i was scheduled a shift with him, and i remember how my fingers would shake as i waited for the page to load. i started thinking about him all the time, and what it would be like if we were together, but i was too embarrassed to admit it to anyone and was too shy to have any sort of real conversation with him, which is out of character for me. my heart hurt when he would leave the room.
i would observe him a lot, because random social functions would throw us into the same parties and day trips, and i felt like i understood him on a level that really intrigued me. just like with the others, i wanted to sit down and listen to everything he could possibly say about anything. for some reason i was still too fucking shy around him to make him think of me as anything more than a coworker, though.
the last shift i ever worked with him, i had a panic attack right before i got to work. i tried really hard to put my customer service face on, but i was noticeably spacey for my whole shift. it had me spiraling; i felt like a failure in front of him and i couldnt do anything right. no one could ever know that, though, so i kept distracting myself so i could blink back tears, and then move on like nothing was wrong. that was my last week at that job, and i am never going to see him again. its probably for the best.
the last one makes me feel icky. thinking about him now is making my chest bubble and my ears pound.
during my senior year i had to go to a college campus for one of my classes for a few months. it was a night class so it was mostly filled with adults, but there was this one really hot guy covered in tattoos, who i pegged to be around 21. he had soft blonde hair and light scruff. we wore faded jeans that fit him nicely and an oversized jumper, so the only tats visible were on his hand and the one behind his ear. it made him look tough but gentle. he asked for my number and i gave it to him. he said he was drawn to me for some reason. it felt like fate, because i felt exactly the same way.
i never really get crushes on people. i know a lot of people—i use tinder, i meet people at parties, i even sometimes go on dates—but i never really feel attracted to people. whether its a hot guy that i see on the street, or a really nice girl that makes me laugh, or someone i can sit down with and talk to for hours. that’s why when i get these feelings for these few people that i barely know, it feels like it’s something more than a crush. so when he told me he was thirty and he thought i was really hot for my age, i wanted to believe that it was still fate, and that i wouldnt just feel like this for no reason. i let him say things to me that i would normally ghost someone over, and i tried to convince myself that it was normal.
nothing extraordinary or exciting ever came of this. i quickly realized that a man that was 13 years older should not be texting like this to me, so i told him i wasnt going to work out and blocked his number in a way that required the least amount of confrontation. i brought pepper spray to school with me every day after that.
anyway. i dont know what any of this means, if it means anything. maybe these were all just normal ass crushes, and if i was just a little bit less scared of my emotions i would have a real story. or maybe people are just more connected than we think.

ILM Shares ‘Star Wars Stories’ at Gnomon
ILM’S Paul Giacoppo, Charmaine Chan, and Jay Machado discuss their career paths, making Rogue One, and much more.
From the opening shot until those final moments before the Tantive IV takes off into hyperspace, Rogue One’s visual storytelling takes center-stage in a big way. The credits run long for a reason, and that’s because hundreds of people at Industrial Light & Magic worked tirelessly to bring every major visual to life in a way that felt both “classic” and new at the same time. Last month at Gnomon University in Los Angeles, three of those visionaries brought their work to an audience of eager visual effects students in a special presentation called Star Wars Stories: An Evening with ILM. ILM’s Paul Giacoppo, Charmaine Chan, and Jay Machado brought decades’ worth of experience to their discussion.
Machado was on the modeling team for The Force Awakens’ Millennium Falcon, and created the award-winning Imperial Star Destroyer that we see rise from the shadows in Rogue One. Charmaine Chan spoke of her history at ILM, illustrating how careers grow and change on the company’s campus. Giacoppo is behind some extremely recognizable work that reaches back decades over the history of Lucasfilm and ILM; the crowd was hooked when he showed off his visually memorable “Hulk Smash” shot from Marvel’s Avengers.
But while their extensive careers could take up an entire editorial on their own, the focus of the evening was visual storytelling, and how ILM created Rogue One. Giacoppo outlined the overall objective of what the team wanted fans to see and understand: “The idea behind our work on Rogue One was that it had to have the visual feel of the classic 1977 Star Wars, but have a new vision as well.”
When it came to seeking out inspiration, the team had to look further than the usual standards. They began with concepts by Ralph McQuarrie, Joe Johnson, and several others that defined the look of Star Wars. These angular, expansive, and recognizable styles still reflect throughout Rogue One, but the team looked at what they could do differently as well, because the story in itself was different from the norm. “[McQuarrie and Johnson’s concepts] were part of what the visual language of Rogue One was,” said Giacoppo. “But it was a different kind of movie. It was a true war movie, about people with a mission to complete. So it’s not exactly a ‘hero’s journey,’ and we had to change what we were doing in order to tell this different kind of story.”
Giacoppo dove into set design, then, showing off digital recreations of classic sets that were created by John Knoll, ILM’s chief creative officer and a staple of Star Wars creativity. Knoll, attempting to explain how characters would move through various scenes, created digital set tours practically overnight in order to explain his vision.
Giacoppo then dove into characters that were created digitally for the film, focusing first and foremost on K-2SO, who he says has been part of the Rogue One story since its original pitch. K-2SO varied greatly from past on-screen droid companions, who were so often cute, or at least a little more friendly-looking. “He’s intimidating, he’s really stealthy, and he’s huge… and he was always an Imperial enforcer droid.
“There was a lot of time spent with the texture artists to get those same materials and weathering we’re used to in Star Wars,” Giacoppo explained, noting the details that showed Kaytoo’s age and length of use.
The team took designing Kaytoo very seriously, spending hours on specific details about how he would emote. The team looked at more eyes than one can count on two hands, then went through tests of how they would move — if at all — and how Kaytoo looked when expressing himself. “There was a big push to have a part of him blink, and to have a part of him move his mouth,” said Giacoppo, noting that such a thing is a rarity among Star Wars droids, who often reflect a much more industrial feel in design than most AI-driven beings within the genre. “But it just didn’t feel like Star Wars. See, he’s all blinking and jittering around… there’s too much going on.” With animation supervisor Hal Hickel’s guidance, the team ultimately went with “this sort of more impassive mask”, said Giacoppo, allowing fans to read and “project” emotions onto Kaytoo as they got to know him.
As a special bonus, Giacoppo showed a tiny clip of K-2SO playing with toys that paired with some very familiar audio from Alan Tudyk’s Wash in Firefly (“Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!).
ILM’s Jay Machado, a hard-surface modeler and texture artist, was a welcome and familiar face that evening. As a Gnomon alum himself, Machado’s post-grad years have been more than exciting. For Rogue One, following his Millenium Falcon re-creation, Machado was tasked with creating iconic ship-looks once again. To set the tone for the talk, Machado showed off that iconic opening shot from A New Hope, where the belly of the Star Destroyer sails over the camera in pursuit of Princess Leia’s Tantive IV. “We wanted it to feel like the exact same era,” said Machado. So, his team at ILM went to the root of all builds to recreate and design ships in Rogue One. “For the ships, we went up to the archives, we took lots of photos, we scanned things, stuff like that — all to get the ships to be just right,” Machado told the crowd. “There’s a few people still working at ILM that we were able to talk to, like [long-time ILM VFX artist and supervisor] Dennis Muren, who [shot] much of this originally, and that really helped when it came to making it accurate.
“What I was surprised by is that the original Star Destroyer is only three feet long…a lot of the panel lines are drawn in with pencil. And we wanted to match that so that in a way, you could watch Rogue One and seamlessly start A New Hope.”
As far as new ships went, Machado noted that the tasks were just as difficult, but worth every grueling second. “Working with Doug Chiang and the art department, we had to design [the new ships] in a way that felt familiar so that they would blend in seamlessly with the ships we know and love.” Machado highlighted the U-wing, Krennic’s ship, and the new TIE strikers, stating that they were kind of meant to “compliment” the U-wing, with forward-sweeping panels and a unique, planet-specific use.
What may have been most exciting was the creation of new ships to the canon, like the Ghost from Star Wars Rebels, which featured on screen twice in Rogue One. “It fell to me to actually [build the Ghost] and it was kind of a secret project,” said Machado. “Well, at first it was a secret. Nobody else was supposed to know about it. I was supposed to do this quickly, and I had to design it in between my daily work so that people within the office wouldn’t start getting suspicious,” he joked. There are panels and pieces that might look familiar, too — parts of the Ghost might look similar to the Falcon, and that’s no mistake.
One other major ship from Rebels that ended up in Rogue One came all the way from the Knights of the Old Republic games, originally. Hammerhead cruisers, which Princess Leia worked with Kanan Jarrus and Ezra Bridger to steal for the Rebellion in Star Wars Rebels, played an integral part in Rogue One, and Machado was among those responsible for their finished designs on the big screen.
Charmaine Chan’s presentation focused more on the process of growing her career before and after ILM. As an up-and-coming artist who veered off the trail that her parents originally wanted (worry not — they were ultimately supportive either way), Chan hit the ground running by creating work early and producing it every day. Since joining ILM, Chan has worked on more movies than one can count — a once-over of her IMDB page shows credits for Transformers, Captain America: Civil War, Jurassic World, and more. But her beginnings were in Web development.
According to Chan, she learned HTML, CSS+, and more “so that I could build Spice Girls websites” as a little girl. As that hobby grew, Chan broke into graphic design, then Flash animation. (As someone who started her career building Star Wars and N*SYNC fansites, this writer can relate.) “That’s what really started all of this, because I started watching movies closer and learning what it took to compose a full shot. There’s lightning, texture, and all sorts of details to consider, which I found really interesting…it really helped me move into this form of art.” Chan took those skills to the next level, learning visual effects, making motion graphics (“You know, like, DVD menus!” she joked) and eventually applying for a digital research position at ILM. “That gave me a really great overview of what the VFX process is,” said Chan. “I got to touch the shots at the beginning and the end.” From there, she kept working her way into a position at ILM that has grown and spanned over a decade, leading to her work as a compositor today.
The night was a wonderfully informative look at how the story of Rogue One was brought to to the big screen with stunning, modern, yet familiar visuals. One of the biggest surprises for this writer was learning about the sheer scale of people working on each Star Wars film. Hundreds of names scroll down through the credits after every film, but there’s just something unique and different about putting faces to those names and realizing just how many people it takes to make our favorite galaxy far, far away come to life.

Summary: Last class before Spring Break and someone decides to get handsy.
POV: Joe
Characters: Joe Merriweather, Natalie Jankoski *(Italics), Ryan (Indented Italics)
Word Count: 2200ish
Author’s Note: xXx
Quote: “Maybe that’s the point of my so-called ‘shitty punishments’ – make you want more.”
Soaking in the silence of the room, Joe focused his attention on the whiteboard before him as he cleared away the incomprehensible black scribbles that resembled some sort of word and the poorly drawn diagrams that were all produced mid-lecture as a way to keep his own thoughts and talking points flowing.
The tranquility was disrupted just minutes later as the sound of someone forcefully gripping the door handle pulled Joe from his thoughts. Glancing over his shoulder and looking through his black-rimmed glasses, he watched as the door creaked open and she entered.
Scoffing lightly, Joe returned his attention to the board and resumed his cleaning. “Unusual for you to be this early. Didn’t feel like stumbling in here just before class was set to start?” He croaked, listening as she walked to the last set of tables, placing her belongings down on the wooden surface.
Leaning against the table, Natalie eyed the man dressed in black as he jokingly attempted to strike up a conversation. “Since no one shows up to class the day before Spring Break, my last class got out earlier than expected and now I’m here with my favorite professor.” A laugh accompanied her sarcastic remark.
“Obviously, some people show up since you’re here and so am I, along with most professors and responsible students.” Joe pointed out, tossing the rag onto the first row of tables. “Aww, that’s really sweet of you to say. I’m really your favorite professor?” Joe asked in a cheerful tone as he turned to face her, placing a hand over his heart before making his way back to his desk, his hand falling back to his side. “See, that’s something I would say if you weren’t being a sarcastic little shit right now.” He deadpanned.
“How dare you accuse me of being a ‘little shit’.” Digging into her bag, she looked from Joe to her bag and then back to Joe who was now unbuttoning his suit jacket before settling down into his chair. “How can you not be my favorite professor?” She questioned, taking a paper from her bag and snaking her way through the chairs until she stood on his side of the desk. “Mr. Jack-of-all-trades, you help me in and out of class, whether that be in a professional manner or not.” She quipped, holding out the assignment to him as a grin claimed her features.
Peeling his glasses away from his face, Joe rubbed his eyes until streaks of green and orange claimed his vision. Lecturing from early in the morning until now made Joe extremely tired and if it wasn’t apparent in his raspier than normal voice, it was surely apparent in his tired face.
“Well, when you put it that way, I guess you have a very valid point.” He admitted, dropping his hand onto his lap and taking a moment to himself before opening his eyes. “What’s this?” Joe asked, swiveling around to face her, placing his glasses back on.
“Age catching up with you today?” Natalie jested, glancing at him and smirking. “It’s that paper you wanted due before the break.” She flipped through the stapled pieces of paper before motioning for him to take them. “You forget about it or something? Don’t tell me your memory is fading too.”
Peering up at her, Joe gave her a stern look before adjusting his glasses. “Check your attitude, Natalie,” Joe warned, his attention focused on the door after hearing the handle rattle. “You going to do the same thing you did three days ago?” He wondered, turning his attention back to her after a moment. “You know, keep that firm grip and then straddle me?”
With a cheeky grin and a raised eyebrow, Natalie shook her head as Joe reached out and gripped the paper. “Grumpy, too.” She muttered, tossing a glance over her shoulder before taking a step forward and standing almost directly between his opened legs. “I would say I like to keep things professional in this type of setting, but if I did, that would be a straight up lie since we both know what happened in your office just a few weeks ago.”
Leaning back in his seat to add space between them, he easily pulled the paper from her hands. “You’re playing a dangerous game and this isn’t the place to play it.” Joe cautioned, his sights switching between her and the door.
“You should learn to take your own advice, Joe.” She asserted, lingering between his outstretched legs before taking a step back.
With a sudden change in his demeanor, Joe scoffed while sliding back in the seat of his chair to sit properly. “Is that so?” He questioned, sarcasm claiming his tone as he swiveled away and pulled himself to his desk. “You might be right, I should take my own advice and so should you.” He added, looking through the stapled papers, skimming through the words. “I should know better considering I’m far older and far wiser than you. Take my advice and listen to your elders, little one.” Joe whispered, speaking more to himself than to her.
“Then you should be wise enough to quit with that ‘punishment’ bullshit.” Natalie sat on the edge of his desk, arms crossing over her chest. “Doesn’t work. Doesn’t scare me either. Must be too naive.” She explained, staring at him while his eyes scanned the paper. “I don’t understand how you’re ‘punishment’ is a punishment. I mean, shouldn’t punishing someone act as a deterrence to make them not do that certain thing again?
Pushing herself off the desk, Natalie turned around, leaning down slightly, and pretending to read along with Joe. “If so, your shitty punishments do the complete opposite.”
Removing his glasses, Joe bit down on one of the tips before lowering the paper. Tilting his head to look up at her, he maintained eye contact as a moment of silence was shared. “Maybe that’s the point of my ‘shitty punishments’ – make you suffer and make you want more.”
Slightly shocked by his response, Natalie raised her brows. “Well, if that’s the case, I hope you know that two can play that game.” Turning her attention back to the paper, Natalie rested her hand on the edge of the desk. “You might want to pretend you’re reading over that paper just in case anyone walks in. Wouldn’t want them to suspect anything.” Smirking, she watched as he placed his black-rimmed glasses back on and continued to skim over the paper, a grin pulling at the corner of his mouth.
With her hand falling from the desk and landing on his knee, she slowly began to move her hand up his thigh. “Stay quiet,” Natalie warned, laughing to herself since this was once a warning Joe gave to her.
Her hand continued to slowly trail up his thigh until it reached his belt. Feeling as Joe raised his hips just slightly, Natalie glanced over to him, her eyes focusing on his face as her hand moved across the front of his slacks. Impressed by his lack of emotion, she studied his features for a second before turning her attention to his belt. Instead of going for her belt, her fingers latched onto the zipper of his pants. “How are you enjoying that paper, professor?” She asked, her question nothing more than an innuendo.
Flipping the page, Joe furrowed his brow. “This paper? It gets the point across, but it’s nothing special at all.” Joe answered, his comment nothing more than an innuendo.
“Aw, well isn’t that just a damn shame.” She teased, slowly pulling the zipper down until it reached the end of its tracks.
Moments later, a figure appeared on opposite side of the door, forcing Joe to look away from the paper. “Stop,” he warned, but his warning came too late.
Suddenly, Natalie froze as the door swung open and a student entered. A rush of adrenaline coursed through her veins at the thrill of almost being caught. Relaxing moments later, she began to toy with the opening, her fingers grazing across the fabric underneath as she glanced up to the student, greeting him with a nod and a friendly smile. “You do the paper?” She questioned, slipping her hand into the opening and looking over to Joe who was still concentrating on the paper clenched in his hands.
“Shit. That was due this week? The day before Spring Break?” Ryan worried, oblivious to what was happening between the professor and student just a handful of feet away.
Entering the conversation just as Natalie was entering through his boxers, Joe shifted forward in his seat – any and all skin coming in contact now.
Waving the paper in the air, Joe stared at Ryan who was settling his things on the desk. “It sure is,” Joe answered, a groan concealed as a cough escaping his lips afterwards as the warmth of her hand wrapped around him. “But don’t worry about it. I have a strong feeling not everyone will be coming.” Joe rested his sights on Natalie, his eyes widening as some sort of non-verbal warning.
Slipping his hand beneath the desk, he unwrapped her hand from his growing erection and pulled her out from his slacks, quickly adjusting himself and zipping back up, shifting in his seat. “Don’t sweat it, Ryan. You can bring it in after the break, pal.”
Natalie tsked in annoyance. “So I did all this work and you’re just now telling us that it doesn’t have to be completed until after Spring Break?” Natalie asked, standing tall and backing away from Joe. “I should at least get a few points extra credit for that then.” She said as a joke as she began to walk out from behind the desk.
Taking a few deep breaths to calm himself, Joe eyed Natalie, his eyes following her until she sat down in the back row of tables. “Don’t worry, missy,” Joe began, standing up and removing his jacket – painstakingly slow, the way he always did it when around her. “The paper, it was pretty good. Like I said, nothing really special, but you got the point across and did a good job. From what I was able to read, I enjoyed it so far.”
As expected, most of the students failed to attend class, resulting in Joe cutting the lecture short and going on a tangent of random stories, viewings of funny dashcam videos, and pointless class discussions.
Leaning against the podium, Joe spotted Natalie messing around with her phone – the desktops offering no protection despite her thinking otherwise.
“Before I decide to dismiss class early – and yes, I said early - so you all can go on your week binge of sinning, drinking, and whatever else you all do during the break, I have a story that serves as a stern warning.” Joe began to roll up his sleeves, walking around the podium. “Miss Jankoski, your attention would be much appreciated for this story, since you might be unaware of what happened to your friend over the weekend.” He shot her a stern glare, before pacing away, dipping his head as he smiled to himself.
“So, over the weekend, our beloved friend, Landon, decided to make the shitty decision to drink and drive. Obviously, that didn’t work out in his favor because low and behold, I was the officer who pulled him over. So, when pulling him over, I did the usual things you all see on TV: leave my fingerprints on the tail light, approach him, strike up a conversation, ask for all the stuff I need, peer into the truck – nice truck by the way – to see if anyone else was in it, which there was – a female –, you know, all that good stuff. Anyways, skipping over all that boring stuff and getting to the good stuff, Landon decided to get a bit belligerent when I was frisking his friend and apparently that liquid courage he had stored up decided to make a grand appearance.” Stuffing his hands into his pockets, Joe paced before the class. “Initially, I sat him down on the curb with no cuffs since I know the kid and assumed that he wouldn’t try anything stupid, but we all know the first three letters of ‘assumed’ and what they spell out – a.s.s.” He scoffed to himself before continuing. “Mid-frisk and with my back towards him, Landon stood up from the curb and in a threatening manner, approached me and the female passenger.” Joe reached the podium and leaned his side against it. “I strongly suggest you guys never ever do what Landon did because you will get the same result, something like a deployed taser and your body laying flat on the ground. I really didn’t want to do it, but he left me no other choice.”
The room erupted in gasps, scoffs, and snickers – Joe remained silent as he maintained eye contact with an embarrassed and disappointed Natalie.
Quieting the class down, Joe finished. “Landon is now in the jail for the next couple of weeks and managed to create a whole new portfolio – a criminal record. In conclusion, there are two points to this story. One is that just because you are my student, you do not get special privileges when it comes to breaking the law and disobeying what I, or any other officer, says. The second is that you are all enrolled in criminal justice and should know better, so, if you hang out with anyone like Landon, I suggest you find some better friends.”
Drumming his hands on the podium, Joe returned to his desk. “With that being said, if you do happen to get into any trouble, make sure you tell us your story when we come back. Now be safe and enjoy your Spring break.”

Amy Mitchell - mother of 7yr old twins Sarah and Danny, Amy recently walked in on her husband for 10 years cheating on her with not one, or two..but four other women. Two were younger than her and the other two are older, he apparently was doing two of them at the same time and tried to invite her into the pairing rather than feeling any real sympathy at all for his actions. Needless to say, Amy divorces him on the spot and is left with the twins, a job she hates and trying to figure out how to be a single mother.
Charese Terrance - Darnell’s younger sister (by a year), Charese is a gymnast and dancer and generally her father’s favorite, even though he’ll never really admit it. It’s not that she manages to get away with anything either, he just tends to go to whatever she’s doing. Charese is a generally calm young woman, she has a pretty normal group of friends but spends most of her time working very hard towards her dance and gymnastics competitions.
Adeline Rose - Duchess Adeline Rose is one of Charlotte Moore’s better friends and part of her fashion label as well as formerly a model herself. She is also an artist and children’s author and has released books similar to Dragons love Tacos and Pete the Cat.
Vinicio De Santis - the 3rd and as far as I can tell, final, De Santis brother, Vinicio is actually the “youngest” of the 3 behind Sergio. I’m so far unsure of what exactly it is that he does, I think he might be in the security business, though I haven’t figured out if he means actual security or the kind of thing that Gavin Deveroux does.
Jesse Custer - Ive never actually seen Preacher, or anything to do with it. All I know about it is Jesse is the worst kind of preacher there is and he’s got a vampire that lives with him and his girlfriend. So saying that, my Jesse has the name, but not much else. He’s a Section 1 member who’s been in the field for quite a while now, living in the middle of nowhere Memphis. The most interesting thing he’s seen in the last little while was the ghost of Elivs standing in line at a food truck that sells S’mores Peanut Butter sandwiches. Personality wise, Jesse’s got a pretty dry sense of humor, the world could end and he’d probably just shrug. The one interesting thing about him though is his relationships. He never would have admitted to this in the past but he’s currently in a polyamorus relationship with Pearl, a witch he fell into step with in New Orleans before being reassigned to Memphis, and Cassidy (another stolen name from Preacher, he’s relatively similar to the character as well, from what I’ve seen from gifs) an Irish vampire reborn in 1839. The three live in a small house somewhere south of downtown Memphis.
Cassidy - I’m not sure if Cassidy, or Cas as he prefers to be called, has a last name and just won’t give it to me, he never had one or else he has one but can’t remember it. Born as a vampire in 1839 in Ireland outside of a pub, he was first drawn to the United States and most notably Memphis, Tennessee in 1865 following the massive earthquake that shook most of the midwest and started in Missouri. For some reason, aside from occasionally going to Savannah, Georgia and New Orleans, Louisiana, he doesn’t really get around much. Cas is an oddball vampire in that he likes to feed off of drug addicts and can actually get high off of their blood, he can drink and while the alcohol doesn’t affect him the way it does humans, with the right kind he can actually get drunk, in some form or another. He’s also got a soft spot for pie, I dunno why. Generally sarcastic, Cas can get very manipulative and downright murderous (like any vampire, of course) and has almost been put down a few times by his friends and lovers (they’re the same people) If he shows any interest in anyone at all, it’s usually directed towards one of two people. I don’t exactly know how he became involved with Jess and Pearl, just that he’s become the third in their relationship. His tendencies were primarily directed at Jesse at first, liking to bite him in his neck, immediately following sex (with Pearl, since obviously...) though after a while he actually became a bit more involved and now spends equal time with both of them.
*Also, Apparently Jesse and crew have encountered Team Free Will (ours of course) and there was a moment when Dean said Cas and both turned and looked at him.*
@musesnotebook Is the name and Ruth Negga okay with you? And...that last picture isn’t a character, he’s actually a request from James Flint, he’s very particular, it would seem but I had an image of him pushing this guy back, tangling his fingers in his hair and kissing him with his hands on either side of his head. My brain has been busy lately...apparently. Maybe that’s what the sleep app is picking up on!

I really liked Freyja checking the stove multiple times, I laughed out loud since it's something I've always done when leaving the house.

yes that was a moment i connected with too. not that ive really checked the stove but ive had to deal with other similar issues of checking things a dozen times. im glad for the timing of that too cause it really helped explained why corin going missing got to her so much
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Hello there! I’ll be there in a bit, currently AFK for the time being!
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
kay~!
🌟Draco Plato🌟
I've really enjoyed learning more about Freya as a character too, I feel like there's a lot of depth beneath her that we're just starting to uncover
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
yeah. there are a lot of interesting elements to her character. mostly because i hmm why shes in the town. like corin is understandable because corin's anxiety is a bit more debilitating. whereas freya seems completely functional and yet somehow stuck
i think my favorite scene is less a scene is the one where freya busts into johann's place and just doesnt say anything. shows him the picture and hes like "well shit ive been found out."
🌟Draco Plato🌟
OH! I liked that too, it also added more layers to the story. And yeah, overall I find Corin a simpler character since it's pretty clear why he is the way he is and his debilitating anxiety, etc
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
another scene i like for its effect on the story itself is the story about the origin of the snow. i really liked that it gave the town a sort of history, even if it might be a fictional and fantastical one XD
🌟Draco Plato🌟
Yeah I did think that was really good for expanding the lore of the story~!
wishjacked
I have a really strong love/hate relationship with the scene where the old man at the train station recognizes Corin and asks about his parents. It's really funny in the most painful way imaginable
And I like Freya a lot!! I'm interested to see where her character goes-- I think there are a lot of hints that she's not as functional as she appears at first, and I'm interested to see where that goes haha
🌟Draco Plato🌟
Oh same!!
Omg that scene at the train station, that old man was ridiculously awful in his questions, from bad to worse
felt so bad for Corin
wishjacked
Like the oven thing was funny, but weirdly drawn out compared to a lot of other jokes, and she also has that scene in the bathroom where she has this weird, disjointed cause-and-effect logic that because she left the soap out, it caused something totally unrelated and bad to happen. I've wondered if those things have some deeper meaning to her character or world lol
Me too, I was dyyyyiiiiiing for that whole scene
🌟Draco Plato🌟
same, same, I feel like there's something to delve into there behind her little ticks
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
that is true. the stove thing i get, but the soap out did throw me for a loop. so its a good point that her problems may go a bit deeper. albeit shes at least not so tormented shes staying home all day. i imagine it takes her like an hour to actually leave her house though
that old man scene though, man, i erased that from my memory
it just made me so uncomfortable
like old man where is your human decency O_O
🌟Draco Plato🌟
yeeeeah, like geezus 0 sympathy for the poor kid
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
yeah. i mean youd think corin just told him the weather was not so great, not that his parents died tragically O_O
🌟Draco Plato🌟
altho there was a part of me that thought as a writing choice that was low hanging fruit for showing his anxiety heightened and why he has it and I thought that maybe it could have been added in more strategically than so forced
but that was more my thought on a writing analysis viewpoint
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
tbf i actually wondered if that was the true dialogue and if we were getting an unreliable narrator effect going. like the old man was actually being nicer but corin's anxiety translated the words to something else.
http://suriskacomic.com/62.html
especially after that scene it makes me feel that inclination stronger
wishjacked
oh, that's a very interesting thought!!
🌟Draco Plato🌟
I did wonder that too Rebel!
wishjacked
Honestly I took the scene at face value bc I straight up am that old man. and thaaaaaaaaaaaat's why I have no friends XD
🌟Draco Plato🌟
LOL!!!
wishjacked
there tends to be a really strong "unreliable narrator" feeling in general-- beyond Corin's anxiety rewriting speech bubbles, Freya's narration is just snarky enough that I'm not quite sure exactly how biased she is in her representation of her town and etc
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
hmm im not sure i got that representation from freya. her items i took more at face value. that being said, i do think shes suffers from a sort of complex in how she sees herself? like she got super pissed about johann not trusting her and thinking she couldnt handle the secret and what not, and something about it struck me as kind of odd. tho i couldnt put a finger on what
🌟Draco Plato🌟
I was surprised how agreeable she was to covering up for an affair
and how nonchalant she was about it, since that's a rather big deal
it made me wonder where she lies on a morality line
which i thought was intriguing
cause my first assumption is she'd be very anti it so it went against my expectations which i like
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
that is also true. not to mention its a very risky secret to keep. the about page says this towns population is 150. and small towns of that size generally make it hard to keep secrets of that level
🌟Draco Plato🌟
right! So I'm interested where that story route will go
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
QUESTION 2. Throughout the comic we see the portrayal of mental illnesses, from Corin’s anxiety to Freya’s OCD tendencies. Was there any aspect of their portrayal you particularly connected with? Why? Do you think Corin and Freya will be able to learn to cope with their illnesses better? If so, what do you think has to happen for them to be able to get a better handle on life? Particularly in the case of Corin, what do you foresee as potential conflicts he’ll have to face in regards to his anxiety, and do you think he’ll triumph over them?
as for the first question
once again http://suriskacomic.com/62.html
that page
ive been there. where no matter what people are actually telling you all you hear is how worthless you are. not fun times. and i thought that was really a lovely way to illustrate it. the sudden change in color schemes really sets the mood. and the messy handwriting for corin's added thoughts really i think emphasis the volitile nature of them
🌟Draco Plato🌟
yeah I felt that was relatable as well(edited)
to a much smaller degree than what Corin has though, but I've been there with crippling anxiety before
My hope is that by the end of the story he'll have learned to cope with it but I could see the creator not taking that direction as well
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
itd be a shame if corin didnt learn better coping mechanisms though. :< like, what a horrid life to live with such anxiety. not to mention from the sounds of it corin moved there to change himself, so hes not gonna be changing himself if that happens. granted i dont expect him to ever be fully "cured" (for lack of a better word). just still, itd be nice if he could go outside or open the door without thinking about how people secretly all hate him or something.
🌟Draco Plato🌟
I do think he needs to change for it to be a compelling story arc for him
cause a lack of progression in his condition would just be overly sad especially with the background he came there to change
but if the change character is Freya and not Corin I could see the story not helping Corin in his condition
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
yeah thats true. and tbh im not sure corin is in the right place to change as far as his anxiety goes. im really torn about that. cause on the one hand being able to go to a remote location could be a good mental break. but on the otherhand it can also worsen the anxiety. however corin progresses.
im interested to see how corin handles being on a train
cause thats not really a place where you can actively avoid people in super close proximity
🌟Draco Plato🌟
I think there's also a small chance Corin could be the "antagonist" of the story
if he flips out to such a degree
that it hurts those around him
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
alrighty, I'm here at last
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
hi super~!
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Hi Rebel! Thanks again for doing the CTP
Before I jump in I want to say I like the winter aesthetics of this comic.
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
corin is kind of the antagonist. he did hide that letter. which is...like i get he doesnt want to go but he didnt need to deprive freya of the reunion. hes an adult so she technically cant tell him what to do.
yeah its really nice to see a winter setting, especially one where ppl are actively dressed for it
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
^
🌟Draco Plato🌟
yeah i like the winter aesthetic too, and yeah that really made me question Corin on the morality line, that he hid the letter from her just because he wasn't sure if he wanted to go or not. It made me feel he was super self absorbed and doesn't consider his actions and their affect on other people
also who was he mailing the letter to in the most recent page?
it had a sinister feel to it the way it was portrayed
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
considering he was looking at a magazine catalogue thing that had a thing that looked like a radio for 19.99, i assume he was mailing a letter that said "plz give me this product"
🌟Draco Plato🌟
oh! was that it, i didn't notice, I wonder why it was made to feel like such a big deal then panel and tone wise
I guess it could have been done that way because of him over hearing the conversation too
I just didn't think it was that relevant to him since he wouldn't have known the tickets were for him and Freya
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
well to be fair the next page may directly say "these are for the farthas so they can go to their reunion" and then corin may be all gasp
i kind of thought the tone was sinister too although i assumed that was an artistic choice to express corin's anxiety. cause when you arent a fan of people, going out where there are people is probably gonna be a sinister undertaking
🌟Draco Plato🌟
yeah, maybe the next page will piece it together better, that could change a lot. I think if his anxiety was the focus there'd have been more focus panel wise on his expressions and less on the letter and mail box
I was actually surprised it didn't focus on his anxiety more
since it seemed like him going there would be a big deal
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
thats true. on a side note and kind of off topic, i like the pattern on corin's hat. like i think its just a really nice detail.
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
>On Page 59 >Chills at around -20 Is that in F or C
🌟Draco Plato🌟
probably F since the creator is from the US
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Holy Christ
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
QUESTION 3. Suriska may be a small town, but plenty trouble seems to be afoot even so. Do you think Corin will ever hear the end of the whole town going out to look for him? Do you think Corin will be able to maintain employment, or will his employer eventually let him go? In regards to Freya who discovered Johann’s affair, do you think she’ll actually be able to keep the secret? If so, do you think she might take advantage of knowing it since she already got free train tickets out of it? Do you think there are any other shadowy things happening within the town? Regardless, do you think being in the town will help Freya or Corin change perspectives on their life? If so, how can this particular town help? Alternatively, do you think the town is actually making their individual ruts worse?
well it is a winter town. those temps are expected
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
A part of me feels sorry for Corin.
also yea
He just looks like the guy that goes through a lot
🌟Draco Plato🌟
I bet something spooky happens because it's a small town, small town stories generally like to focus on the spooky
someone will die or something supernatural will happen
O_O
also it seems like the witches will be proven to be real or something since it had such a long introduction of importance
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
twist: the winter story was true and corin is gonna run into a fox and corin will bring more winter
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
omg Page 68 tho
🌟Draco Plato🌟
yeah, omg yeah that's probably it rebel
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
and the stuff about an affair
🌟Draco Plato🌟
I feel like the fox/witch story had such a long focus was because it's going to become a big part of the story
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Now that you mention it, maybe(edited)
🌟Draco Plato🌟
also the guy in the story looked a bit like Corin
so i feel there's a connection there
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
mmm
I smell foreshadowing
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
i actually got the opposite impression. i cannot see the fox/witch story becoming part of this story in its current course. cause that was the only moment where anything remotely supernatural was even mentioned. and since the rest of this comic is so ingrained in real life issues, it would just be too out of the blue to me to bring it up again
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
what if that was only part of the story
and there's a continuation
of sorts later on(edited)
🌟Draco Plato🌟
I do think the supernatural turn would actually be unwelcomed since that's very common and I prefer it being rooted in reality for what it has been so far. Buuuut small town stories, they love to go into the supernatural and that was a long focus on the fox story
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
still would doubt that. cause again, its delving into the supernatural where 90% of the rest of the comic has nothing supernatural about it.
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Maybe the story could have some kind of greater meaning
🌟Draco Plato🌟
I've read a lot of comics before that have turned supernatural though in the middle
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
rather than just connecting Corin to it
🌟Draco Plato🌟
so it wouldn't be that strange
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
also yea
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
i did think the focus was long, but it can come up in other ways. like maybe corin will use the story as an inspiration to go on a journey. thats more realistic
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
^
🌟Draco Plato🌟
yeah it definitely could be used in other ways
I'd rather see the story be an emotional journey for the characters without the use of a supernatural trope
but again I don't think it'd be uncommon for it to go there
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
I'll say I'm for the emotional journey part(edited)
🌟Draco Plato🌟
I mean Corin could also just flip out and start murdering people saying he is the fox or something
the story is pretty wide open atm
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
true. i mean maybe the supernatural will come up. i cant really even say this is the middle of the story cause who knows how long its going to be. for all i know were still technically in the beginning.
🌟Draco Plato🌟
Maybe Corin doesn't want to go on the train so he runs away into the woods and he meets the fox
and then he goes on a journey with the fox
and freya has to find him
and then he gets over his anxiety by realizing he still has freya left or something
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
yes that could be a possibility. the story couldve just been there to be there. add to that winter lore
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Maybe the fox could be Corin hallucinating or imagining it(edited)
and it speaks with him
🌟Draco Plato🌟
Fox could be the manifestation of his anxiety
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
^^^
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
i do think the story is going to go the route where corin has to leave the town. imho i dont think the town is helping him at all atm. especially freya cause shes kind of an enabler of just letting him laze about the home. like....hes 21 and she treats him like hes a teen or younger. and i personally think those conditions make it hard for him to grow.
🌟Draco Plato🌟
yeah I agree, Freya is an enabler since she doesn't require him to do anything to help around the house or anything
so it breeds stagnation
He needs to make an emotional journey alone most likely
cause the demons are first and foremost inside himself
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
yes.
at the very least if he stays in town everyone will constantly remind him about how he ran away and the whole town searched
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Yea
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
cause man did that town look excited about it XD
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
I'm thinking he migrates to someplace a bit warmer
if I had anything to say
🌟Draco Plato🌟
yeah, omg Like geezus this town(edited)
he'd be lucky to go somewhere warmer, lolol
oh you asked about if he'd lose his job or not, I actually thought it was amazing he even had a job with his level anxiety. Was legit shocked by that XD(edited)
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
lol
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
im confused a bit by the geography of this town. in the sense is this town just experiencing winter atm or is it like eternal winter.
🌟Draco Plato🌟
same
I couldn't tell if the curse made it an all year thing or just seasonal
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
which is what i thought the point of the fox/witch story was more. to create something about the seasons
🌟Draco Plato🌟
yeah if there was a concrete answer regarding it i missed it
but it makes a huge difference
cause if there really is a curse and it's an all year thing than that already puts the supernatural in
if it's related to the curse that is, and not just hey we're winter all year cause of geography, etc
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
for some reason the town really reminds me of alaska
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Me too
I thought it would be someplace in Canada
🌟Draco Plato🌟
I was thinking more of sweden or switzerland
based on their haircuts and clothes
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
but Alaska was what came into my mind first
the clothes looked more Russian to me
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
was skimming the beginning for clues, theres a magical thumb that covers the location
so im gonna assume it doesnt matter
maybe its symbolic
suriska the town is a state of mind
🌟Draco Plato🌟
lolol
i'mma assume it's fictional until otherwise stated
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Yea(edited)
Kabocha, Marquess of ✨Sparkle✨
(It might be estonian, based on the fact that they mention Kalavinski which... is a giant rubber boot in estonian apparently)
🌟Draco Plato🌟
a wild Kabo appears
Kabocha, Marquess of ✨Sparkle✨
Only briefly!
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
eey Kabo! o/
also lol, is that really a thing?
🌟Draco Plato🌟
okay yeah that adds up with their clothes
Kabocha, Marquess of ✨Sparkle✨
But yeah, I was figuring northwest Europe somewhere. Originally I'd thought Nordic, but Estonia makes sense too.
erm, northeast.
🌟Draco Plato🌟
norway would make sense too cause of her name
Kabocha, Marquess of ✨Sparkle✨
............ directions, man, what are they even
Right?!
🌟Draco Plato🌟
like duuur why didn't i connect that even thought it earlier
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
My mind will forever think
some kind of cross between Alaska and Russia(edited)
🌟Draco Plato🌟
so the name Corin is Irish
that doesn't help
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
fartha is also an irish name?
well assume europe
thats good enough
🌟Draco Plato🌟
somewhere in europe, yus
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Yea Europe sounds good
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
in regards to corin's job, it does sound like its a pity job so his performance may not matter
🌟Draco Plato🌟
yeah i like when that was brought up cause it made it make more sense to me
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
tho i wonder if he's 1) getting paid and 2) contributing to household utilities and such
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
^
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
QUESTION 4. At the beginning of the comic, Freya forcefully declares that she and Corin will be going to a family reunion, whether Corin actually wants to go or not. Do you think Freya will actually get Corin to go, or will Corin magically vanish come time to leave? If Corin doesn’t go, will Freya go alone? If they do both manage to go, do you think the reunion will go well? What do you think in general will happen at the reunion? Speaking of which, what do you think the other members of the family will think of Corin? Do you think something at the reunion will make Corin have a new perspective on his parents’ death? If there is no reunion, how do you think this will affect Freya and Corin’s relationship with their family?
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Hmmm
I think Corin would make some excuse to go and just
🌟Draco Plato🌟
I bet we don't see the reunion, lolol
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
stay on the side
🌟Draco Plato🌟
and corin will run off and freya will have to find him
cause I think it's unlikely the story will shift away from the small town
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
idk i feel like the reunion is a potential future still. albeit i consider the liklihood of corin actually going to be slim
i could see freya just going "fine whatever stay here by yourself"
and then she goes to the reunion
🌟Draco Plato🌟
since the small town is mentioned so predominately in the about Is why i think they're going to stay there
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
unless his personality takes a full 180 by then
🌟Draco Plato🌟
cause the town is itself a character
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Is that so?
🌟Draco Plato🌟
"Suriska: population 150. It's neither Freya nor Corin's definition of paradise, but it is their home... if you could call it that. Apparently it's where you end up if you try to change your life for the better. What does it take to get out of this rut? It might take spite, it might take snowstorms, or it might just take a reevaluation of your morals."
ALTHOUGH
"A slice-of-life comic about trains, bad weather, and insecurities."
that's the tagline
which makes me think they'll get on the train and get in a bad snowstorm and get stranded, lolol
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Hmm
Why do i keep thinking Corin should just do photos of the snow and mountains for a living
with a camera
and store all the photos somewhare
like to give people a taste of what life looks like up north(edited)
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
i dont forsee that working. it doesnt look like the town really has many electronics of any sort. like theyre still using landlines
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
also yea
you do have a point
🌟Draco Plato🌟
plus making a living as an artist isn't the easiest thing, lol
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
double-point taken
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
just cause they go to a reunion doesnt mean they cant come back. and you can still make the town predominant if the characters talk about it. like i imagine freya's family has lots to ask about it. so in that context it still makes the story part of it. but man, i bet you if freya did go to the reunion she would tell her sister with the foot thing all about johann's affair. make it even thinking nobody will ever meet
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
I wonder what time era this takes place in, or if the residents deliberately don't use much electricity in case the power goes out or something and it'd be hard to repair
🌟Draco Plato🌟
Personally I'd like them to go to the reunion, i think it'd be interesting,
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
i assume its modern times but that their town is super remote. cause if you have a remote enough town you dont get a lot of stuff we consider common
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Yea
🌟Draco Plato🌟
that's what i assumed too
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
ya know
theres a way for the reunion to happen and them to not leave
freya's family comes to them instead
and everyone has to cram into freya's tiny house
🌟Draco Plato🌟
hahah that's true
altho trains being in the tagline makes me think that's going to be a huge thing
so one way or another they're getting on a train
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
yea
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
maybe. i mean the trains are already kind of a thing
cause it was part of corin's job
🌟Draco Plato🌟
yeah but then you'd say train stations
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
not necessarily? its a tagline. its supposed to entice not be 100% to the letter accurate
🌟Draco Plato🌟
yeah, I know
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
i do think someone is getting on a train
cause now these tickets are a big deal too
🌟Draco Plato🌟
yeah that did increase the importance of the journey
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
I always liked when stories go on trains IMO
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
i wonder what freya would even do if corin just stayed in bed when theyre supposed to leave and said "nope not going"
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
I'd be curious about that too
🌟Draco Plato🌟
I wondered that too, if she'd make him go forcibly, but there is a point I don't think she could physically make him go
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Yea
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
i actually kind of hope freya goes and corin doesnt to a degree. cause i think him having to be alone and take care of himself might be good for him. or more id just be interested to see how he copes for a weekend. cause im slightly worried about his eating habits XD
🌟Draco Plato🌟
oh you know what
corin could stay and freya goes but the train gets in an accident due to the storm and he'd have to deal with the loss of freya too potentially
but freya doesn't die, just has to deal with being stranded
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
although ya know, being so far from home might be hard for freya. cause she cant exactly check the stove while shes hundreds of miles away
tho led my mind to comedic routes. imagining her trek across the snow for miles to get home. corin is like "omg youre okay" and first thing freya does is check the stove and sighs in relief
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Hmm
That would be cool for a scene or two
Also I wonder what kind of foods they eat
prolly all warm stuff
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
well corin had a muffin. i assume its normal stuff that they eat. tho i imagine they do stick away from cold stuff just for matters of practicality
on a side note
im really impressed corin dresses so lightly
cause corin does not have any heat insulating body fat going on really O_O;;;
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Yea
MathTans the Pun 👑Prince👑
I made it home before 10pm. ^_^;; Just wanted to say, I didn't have much free time this week, and so I didn't get far into the narrative, but that's partly because after I read the bit at the start with the kid and the teacher I thought if I don't stop now and do some marking, I'll read too far and be even more behind at work.
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Oh hey Math! o/
Welcome to the final six minutes
MathTans the Pun 👑Prince👑
Enjoyed the start though! Curious to see what others have to say about it.
Better late than never?
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Also yea the beginning was cute
especially with the kids
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
hey math~!
MathTans the Pun 👑Prince👑
Apparently it goes to trains passing in the night.
🌟Draco Plato🌟
Hi Math~!
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
i did like the part where freya gave the kid coffee and then tricked her completely away from wanting to grow up so soon
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
^^^
That part got me especially
🌟Draco Plato🌟
hahah i liked that too, but didn't think it'd work in real life XD
MathTans the Pun 👑Prince👑
We teachers can be tricky.
🌟Draco Plato🌟
also took offense since i don't drink coffee, gosh
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
aside from loading the kid up in caffeine
I don't drink it either
MathTans the Pun 👑Prince👑
I also don't drink coffee, wooo.
🌟Draco Plato🌟
i drank more coffee as a kid than an adult freya, gosh
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
I loved cappuchino growing up
MathTans the Pun 👑Prince👑
Anyway, I'll let you get final thoughts out.
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
(I don't like warm drinks)
Great comic overall, hope to see it continue.
Everything about it was really pleasant to read
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
my last thoughts are that i really like the patterns on all the clothing. its that little bit of extra detail that adds some character to the setting and people existing within it
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
^^^
MathTans the Pun 👑Prince👑
Nice.
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨

Extended Play: How Final Fantasy XII’s gambit created one of the most distinct RPGs ever
From Playstation Blog USA
At the time of its original release more than 10 years ago, Final Fantasy XII received critical acclaim. Boasting incredible visuals that pushed the PS2 hardware to its limits, a unique battle system, and a strong cast embodying the classic thrills of a Final Fantasy story, it left a distinct impression on players.
Despite coming in the wake of a number of hugely successful entries in the series, its developers decided to take sizable risks with the franchise formula, while simultaneously paying homage to Final Fantasy traditions. It represented a bold, daring new vision for the series.
This is not just the story behind that gamble, but of the building of the game’s huge world and the rebuilding of the game itself both in the International Version, which tinkered with the gameplay, and the upcoming PS4 remaster, The Zodiac Age, which launches on 11th July. It’s a chronicle told by developers Hiroaki Kato and Takashi Katano, both of whom not only worked on the PS2 original, but have headed up development of the remaster as Producer and Game Director respectively.

XII’s extended dawn
Final Fantasy XII’s development lasted around six years. An unusual gestation length that – for a time – saw the game hold the Guinness Book of Records title for the longest development period for a video game production. Hiroaki Kato was project manager on Final Fantasy XII, and he was running the whole schedule for the development and production of the game.
Hiroaki Kato: “I remember one of the main things I did was trying to hurry up Mr Sakimoto, the composer of the original game, telling him ‘we need the music now, you need to get it quicker!’”
“Working on a game for such a long time was a difficult thing to do. When we look back at it today, a few reasons come to mind as to why it lasted this long. One of the things about the Final Fantasy series as a whole is that we try new things every single episode: new worlds, new characters, new game systems… Developing all of this from scratch always takes a certain amount of time.
“However, on FFXII specifically we were trying something that had never been done before in the Final Fantasy franchise: we wanted to transition from the kind of old traditional JRPG format that we were used to – shifting from field exploration to battle with separate systems – into what’s basically a modern open world game with a seamless transition from exploration to battle.
“We put a lot of our efforts into transitioning to a seamless automatic battle setup and how to make that fun for players. It took us long time to work this out. In fact, this concept was very set through the course of development but it is rather the volume of content in the game that exploded over time. Getting this in a state where it could be played and all fit together took a lot more time than we thought it would.”
Programming the Gambit system
It is this seamless transition focus that would lead to the introduction of what is probably the most unique feature of Final Fantasy XII: the Gambit system, a customisable battle system that very closely resembles programming code.
Thanks to the Gambit system, players can set up a list of commands for each character which they will perform automatically under the specific conditions they apply to. Setting up these commands and prioritising them with inventiveness is key to defeating many of the game’s encounters.
Hiroaki Kato: “Again, our concept for Final Fantasy XII’s battles was that it must ‘progress seamlessly in real time’. We feared that if we added just the real-time aspect to the command based battle system that other Final Fantasy titles had been following, controlling everything might be too fast-paced and difficult, so to solve this problem we adopted the Gambit system.
“In fact, Final Fantasy IV’s battle system already had a Gambit-like mechanic that controlled the monster’s AI behind the scenes, so we developed this into a different direction to make the Gambit System for Final Fantasy XII.”
“There’s a great feeling of triumph when you defeat a formidable enemy through a fine-tuned setting of your Gambits.” – Hiroaki Kato
Takashi Katano was the lead programmer at the time, and joins Kato-san again on the Final Fantasy XII remaster.
Takashi Katano: “From the very early stages of the project, we all knew the gambit system was going to be difficult to create, but we really wanted to go for that idea so we pushed on.
“I remember Mr Hiroyuki Ito, the main battle designer, saying – and the whole development staff, too – that it was really hard to gauge whether or not what we were doing was going to work nicely or not until the very end. We had this idea and this vision of what we wanted to achieve, of what we thought would make a good game, but when it was only part done it was really difficult to see.
“It’s only when we got quite close to the end of developing the battle system that it all came together and that we saw that yes, this is the vision we had in mind. It’s not something you’ll know from the start.”
Returning to Ivalice
Another particularity of Final Fantasy XII was its setting, Ivalice. The world, its colorful inhabitants and its detailed and seemingly infinite lore didn’t solely belong to XII, but were originally created for Final Fantasy Tactics…
Hiroaki Kato – “Ivalice is a world where the environment and cultures completely change depending on the location and the era, and between Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy XII, the nature of the world itself and the stories told have changed completely.
“In a way, they both have completely new and different settings. However, there are key concepts that are shared between the two versions of the world, so for fans that have played Tactics, there’s a lot of fun to be had in solving the mysteries of the linked worlds using their intuition and imagination. Making that kind of thing possible is one of the reasons why we used Ivalice for Final Fantasy XII.
“The concepts that became the core pillars of the story were the idea of ‘duty’ and the ‘real meaning of freedom’. They seem like really heavy themes, but they are very universal and many people think about them – regardless of their age, gender, position and upbringing. We mixed these themes with the fictitious world of Ivalice and a war setting, and the story itself was woven together around the various main characters that have their own different ideologies.”
“Our idea for the Title Logo art was focus the “duty” theme of the game. We sent Yoshitaka Amano a request to draw Judge Master Gabranth, as he is the one who represents the idea of duty in the game. We had set out that the Judge Masters use two swords, so we were able to have Gabranth drawn in a very heroic pose holding his swords in both hands.” – Hiroaki Kato
The release of the International Version and the addition of the Job system
Shortly after the release of Final Fantasy XII, the International Zodiac Job System version was released in Japan and featured quite a few big system changes from the original.
Hiroaki Kato: “Compared to International versions that Final Fantasy titles went with before, Final Fantasy XII’s went through a very different approach introducing big changes to the core systems. “For Final Fantasy XII’s International version, it was decided that the director, Hiroyuki Ito, who was in charge of many of the battle designs of previous numbered Final Fantasy games and the creator of both the famous Active Time Battle and ability Systems, was going to re-create the battle system himself.”
Probably the biggest of these changes was the addition of its job system, with 12 jobs each related to a different Zodiac sign: Archer, Black Mage, Bushi, Foebreaker, Knight, Machinist, Monk, Red Battlemage, Shikari, Time Battlemage, Uhlan, and White Mage.
Hiroaki Kato: “My favorite Final Fantasy titles are Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy Tactics, because they both have job systems in them. When developing FFXII initially, we were already thinking of linking a Job System to the License Board, but with the seamless battles and Gambit system both being so new we feared that players would be overwhelmed if we put in too many new elements. So we decided to have just one type of License Board.
“The design know-how and techniques that Hiroyuki Ito had learned over the years have all been poured into the game, and it has been polished really well.”
Thinking and creating today’s remaster
The International Zodiac Job System version of the game was unfortunately never released in the West, so western players never got to experience the game with all of these additions. Thankfully, it’s the version that inspired the new PS4 remaster.
Takashi Katano: “We discussed this internally for about two months. Improving the visual aspect is what is expected from remasters so of course we did that, but the real concept that we had in mind for the remaster was to make it a lot easier to play. In fact, the whole team sat down and played through the original game from the start to the end, wondering how we could make it more comfortable, easier, and overall more fun to play.”
At the time of its release, FFXII was judged to be a difficult game, which was probably due in part to a player base that needed to adjust to the drastic changes implemented with the combat system.
Takashi Katano: “In the original International version of the game, you could pick one job per character. In this remaster, you’re allowed to pick two for each individual character and use the different combinations there to develop them in different ways. So there’s an extra tactical layer added in with this characterisation system.
“We also made big changes in the game balance. The enemies’ strengths and weaknesses were adjusted, and their AI patterns and attacks will be different. The tactics you will have to come up with in order to fight them are going to be very different from the original.
“We also added a few quality of life improvements; we reduced the loading times, added a location map as an overlay to make it easier to navigate, and included features like auto save. We really wanted to make the gameplay experience smoother.”
Takashi Katano – “We really wanted to give something to players who were looking for all kinds of different things. For example, we have included a new mode where you have to play through the whole game without your level going up. Your team stays level 1 and it will be a very difficult challenge to go through the game with a very weak set of characters.
“Also for people looking for challenges, we’ve added in something called the ‘Trial Mode’. In this mode, you have to play through a hundred battles in a row against different enemies and a level of difficulty gradually increasing. You will have to master different strategies in order to complete this.”
A unique game with a forward thinking vision
In a number of ways, Final Fantasy XII set new standards for the industry. Modern RPGs have since commonly adopted seamless real time battles as standard, and the Final Fantasy series itself continued in this direction. The team, however, remains quite humble.
Takashi Katano: “We certainly did try new things, but we just thought of them as new challenges. At the start of the project, we were actually worried to see if our battle concepts would make for a fun game to play.”
Hiroaki Kato: “When we were making the original game we weren’t really thinking about how we could change the industry or anything like that. We really approached it more from the perspective of how can we make something that’s fun for the players to enjoy. We’re really happy that people said it’s new and innovative but it all came from what can we make fun for them.
“From a different point of view, the fact that seamless real time battles are very much the norm for the current generation of games is making me happy as a gamer.”
