was watching a process video of an artist i really like trying a style he doesn't usually go for and he's usually got this very flowy, free style but for this one he was doing lineart and he was obviously struggling with it and said something like he really doesn't know how people can comfortably work with solid lineart and that genuinely shocked me into stopping the video and looking at nothing for a little while ngl
#this is for a few very real reasons given that you all probably know my style is ONLY lineart#the first being that somewhere in my brain I'm convinced lineart is Easy#and i don't say this to put down people who can't do it i say this as someone who's convinced lineart is the Cheat Way of doing art#with solid lineart you can minimize your coloring and the drawing still looks somewhat finished yk what i mean#it's like you do a good enough lineart and you just speedran your way through a drawing#but this dude can put down the most amazing coloring in fifteen minutes and then struggle for an hour with lineart and#my brain just got rewired a little#you never know what your fav artists struggle with my dudes maybe you're acing something they lose sleep over!#i can't believe I'm better than him at something i need a week to assimilate that#another reason this sent me into outer space is that#i just spent the past week trying to figure out how to color a bit more like him and turns out!!!!#our basic understanding of what makes a drawing easy are so fundamentally different!!!!!!!!!#that if i don't change my approach to SKETCHING I will never get close to what he makes!!!!!!#without struggling my way through hours of fixing and adjusting!!!!!!!#speechless i tell you#of course if your style is carried by colors your lines are gonna be minimal get a grip fran

Hii! First of all, I absolutely ADORE your HK AU, the whole Idea and your art style are perfect imo!
If that's not too much to ask, could you please tell us something about your process of drawing humans (and maybe also bugs)? Dewi and his dad always look so adorable, I was hoping to take a peek at your drawing secrets
Hello! And thank you!!! 💕💟💗☮️
I wouldn't be the first to admit it, but I have trouble drawing humans, like- A LOT of trouble. My consistency is that of bread, as in it's different every time I make it 😅. But I have to remind myself that I draw for fun, not for quick improvement. Uh anyways-
When I draw anything, especially humans, I make a quick and simple rough draft of their position and expression. This helps me feel "prepared" for lineart.

Sometimes I'll do multiple rough draft sketches, usually if the final piece is going to be very detailed.

For my personal style of art, I give humans big eyes and noses, with very flexible mouth movements. Here's a neat speedpaint :)
Never be afraid to use references!!! (even if it's annoying and takes time -w-)
Humans (and bugs) can be challenging to draw at times, but its important to keep things basic.

And sometimes you can get silly with it, Charlie Brown simple style.

#For the HK bugs I also use a ton of official references!!!#i hope this helped?#bread#ask stuff#art advice#art help#art tips

So, the usual disclaimer before we address this (again): please do not attack or harass this individual. We are merely bringing this to the attention of anyone who may feel like supporting this artist. Link to the work anon is referencing Our original post concerning them with more evidence Even though we've said in the past that referencing is fine with credit, it's worth noting that this individual is block evading and they seem to think they can carry on as they are because 'well, I've given them credit' when no, this isn't how it works. You don't trace our work for months without giving credit and continue to do so once you're called out and we've expressed our discomfort at you doing this by blocking you.
It's all well and good stating that we've 'clarified we're OK with referencing' when you're confronted after you initially took advantage by not crediting us for months until you were called out, but it should be obvious by us blocking you months ago that our permission no longer applies to you. Knock it off. - RJ
---
I think what's further upsetting is, we haven't exactly been selfish about our process. We've given every source to the tools we use from medical sources to brush tools, cheap and free lineart to alter as people wish, and saying at every opportunity that people don't need permission from us to use broad concepts. We've never been shy about all our inspiration and favorite artists either.
But you'll notice anyone inspired by us are also inspired by multiple things and make it their own. Such is characteristic of the creative process. It's not characteristic of what this person does, yet they treat it like they're doing the same thing as everyone else. And I want to make it absolutely clear, that if you're worried you might be doing this, you're not. You would know. Because this is the only instance anyone has disrespected our boundaries in this way.
We blocked this person months ago. There was no sense in bringing it up, as most people see being blocked as "oh, this person wants nothing to do with me." and move on to other things. But this person goes out of their way to take stuff that isn't even comic-related (commissions and my own personal work), AND make sure no one knows about us. And contrary to popular belief, not that many people know who we are, especially on sites where we're not active. It's like this person assumes that since they're blocked and we don't have a presence on dA, they don't have to respect anything we do. I don't know what they feel, but to me personally it feels intentional at this point. It's gotten to a point where I actually have a preference for people who say they hate us and leave it at that. Because at least they don't skulk around to steal my artwork. Another thing that strikes us as strange is that we were convinced for the longest time that this person was an adult as they've referenced having an apartment and having adult shit to pay on several occasions but they are now turning around and claiming they're actually under the age of 15/16 in light of our original post concerning them, and that they would "still tell you this even if they weren't". Make of that what you will. It's just pretty eh to say you need money for bills and an "apartment situation" when you're also saying you're a minor who is still under the responsibility of your parents/guardians.
Also, being 15/16 is old enough to know better than to steal artwork. Just putting that out there.
I am rightfully frustrated that my good will and patience is being taken advantage of by this person. And I'm tired of the idea that I'm being mean or unfair by speaking out about it. "Don't steal my artwork" is a pretty simple boundary to respect. If it's too complex for some of you to work out, that's a you problem. - Cat

I've been wanting to ask for a while but never was brave enough to. I'm not a very good artist myself but whenever I try to do a comic by the second panel; my art, mind and hand are all worn out from doing one panel.
How do you keep your panels and art style so consistent throughout the comic?
hi!! thank you for being brave to talk to me! I really enjoy discussing technique!
I think comics seem simple and easy to make, but they're a looong process.
👉First of all: start small. like, ONE page small. TWO pages, etc. just tell one joke, or one kiss, etc. it'll make the entire process less daunting. but do think of the beats of the story like...
1- character A is doing a thing 2- character B makes a comment 3- character A gets embarrassed
/ end
something simple, but you can cut up each little beat into two panels if you like, or just keep it at 3 and explain more with the dialogue.
👉for the drawing part, you should really start with a really ugly basic sketch to outline what kind of dialogue and story progression you want to make on each page.
this is a sketch of page 11 of my Bunny Crossing comic:
as you can see, I put a lot of focus on drawing the more delicate moment where Bilbo notices Thorin remembered the comment, so I just actually drew his face in detail there. But the rest was just enough for me to know later where each character is, or if I needed to draw a background, where the dialogue should go, and such.
👉divide your work into days. if it makes you exhausted, you can take one entire day to draw the rough sketch. Then, another day for the dialogue and speech bubbles. Then, another day to actually draw the panels and the more polished sketches of each character. Then, another day for the lineart. Then, shading. etc.
👉try drawing grayscale first. Don't add colors until you're sure you'll have the energy to finish it! It'll get you used to the process, you'll iron out any errors easier.
👉consistency comes from the process itself. I try to be careful while drawing the sketches for my panels, because a good sketch can help you so much in the long run!
👉look for reference on other people's work! manga artists and western artists have loads of footage of themselves drawing online, you'll get inspired for sure!
I hope this helped a little bit! Do respect your own rhythm! 💖 also, if it doesn't help, not everyone likes to draw comics, and that's ok! It IS a very repetitive process. static illustrations are amazing too, and I envy the skill!

I've now received four (four!!!) different copies of my fic, bound and illustrated by different artists---and there's still a deep, almost reverential feeling I get when I hold them in my hands, lay them out. Ironically for the subject matter, they feel decidedly holy. After all, where else am I going to get proof that I did this---even if "tell a story about music and the devil" is one of the sillier things you can do to occupy your time.
But to be less vague, this is the kind gift of @fleabitebooks / @kettle-bird! They reached out to me a few months ago, saying they wanted to bind my Devil Went Down to Georgia fic, and would I like a copy too? As I would never say no to a gift like that, I gleefully accepted.
If you've been following me long enough, you've seen their art in my Cornstalk Fiddle tag, and I am pleased to say that the images lose none of their power. I think the choice to stick to a limited color palette works beautifully here---the golden-yellow of the title pages and the larger art almost seeps through the paper. With the crisp lineart and shading, it ends up being both lovely and vaguely ominous, a sign of the eldritch things moving around/beneath the story.
(Also, I realize this is not a major aspect, but....I love how truly awkward-looking the Devil is. He looks like a Southern Gentleman, and I love that touch of weakness in his jaw.)
I also deeply adore some of the design choices---chapter 3 starting with the cornstalk fiddle and the triumphant starburst of golden-yellow? The white snakeskin-threaded-with-gold pattern used to bind the book? The way the paragraph breaks and endsheets are music? Amazing. Just amazing.
Maybe I should revise what I said above. Yes, having your silly fic about a country song turned into a physical book is proof that you did it, finished it---but it's also proof that someone else did too. In this case, @kettle-bird sat down with my fic and carefully copied it, played with fonts (oh, those are fantastic too by the way!) and spacings and margins; they drew art, colored it; laced the book together, made and bound the cover, then shipped it off to me.
Which means....if I did this, then I was hardly the only one.

I love your artstyle!! Do you have any tips for drawing?
thank you so much! i'm really happy you like it!!💗 as for tips, what i would say would change drastically depending on what kind you're looking for, but some very general ones:
draw what you love and want to see most, regardless of whether anyone else wants to see it. if you don't enjoy what you're drawing it'll never come out as good or genuine as something your whole heart and soul is in. i mean you'd think this would be a no-brainer but sometimes i've had to sit back and ask myself 'if no one was ever going to see this except me, would i actually spend time drawing this?' and i was surprised by the answer
that said, it is also completely valid if your motivation for drawing is to draw for other people! there have been plenty of times where i was too artblocked to draw my own ideas but was still able to draw commissions or gifts and enjoyed it simply because making other people happy with my art makes me happy.
don't get too caught up in having a consistent art style. in my experience this 1000% hinders you
having your sense of anatomy degrade over time without you noticing because you keep drawing the same types of characters is a very real thing! if this is a concern to you be sure to draw a variety
follow a billion artists that you like the art of and you will have endless inspiration injected directly into your brain every time you open social media
my favourite practical tip for those who draw at a desk: keep a small mirror next to you at all times. absolute game changer for quickly referencing hands
if you're drawing digitally, make the canvas huge! in my experience this lets you draw messier/faster and you can't tell at all when you zoom out. if you tend to get stuck spending unnecessary amounts of time micromanaging pixels (me💀) keep it zoomed out while drawing
related to the above point, messy drawings can have far more expressiveness in them than neat and polished drawings. nowadays i never do lineart and go straight from 'barebones stickman pose' to 'varying-levels-of-coherent sketch' and use that as my lineart. sweet freedom from the sketch-looks-better-than-the-lineart phenomenon
if your goal is to improve, then you really do have to scrutinize your art, figure out what you're not satisfied with, and commit the time to focusing on it. 'practice makes perfect' kinda rubs me the wrong way because of how much i've seen it interpreted as 'just draw everyday and you'll magically improve' but genuinely it won't get you very far if you don't actively think hard about what you're trying to improve and take the steps to do it. is this a hot take idk. also hand in hand with this, not every artist is trying to improve and you shouldn't feel bad for this! maybe you just wanna make a little headshot doodle of your fave blorbo and that's your only drawing goal ever. awesome. maybe you know your art has flaws but it's passable enough to convey what you want and you're perfectly satisfied with that. (this is the stage i'm usually at). also awesome!
don't hesitate to draw something because you think it's out of your skill level. the worst that can happen if you draw it is that it comes out terribly but you learned something and can always redraw it better in the future. the worst that WILL happen if you don't draw it is that you'll never draw it. and then it will sit in the back of your brain haunting you for years. it's not like i'm speaking from experience or anything aha
look up 'hand stretches for artists' and do them if you draw a lot unless you wish to summon the wrath of the carpal tunnel demons
of course, these may not necessarily work for you, and most importantly(!) these are coming from the perspective of someone who is primarily a hobbyist. some of this won't be practical for people who need to build an audience, maintain a consistent style for work, etc. these are just things that have personally helped me over many years of drawing :)

HELLOO!!! I just stumbled upon your blog and I admit that I already love it. While looking at some fanart, a question (or curiosity, depending on how you put it) came to me: how do you draw dragons? Or, more precisely, do you have a method for figuring out the shapes and sketching the different species? AND do what program and brushes do you use (especially for sketching)?
I'm sorry that's a lot, but I'd like to get familiar with drawing dragons, I hope you can answer<33
-☄️
Hello, welcome to the blog!! :D
I can definitely answer your questions!
I recently bought a new tablet with a pen, which is part of the reason I haven't posted in a while. I'm a little overwhelmed and hesitant to start drawing dragons for the blog again, so I've been focusing on personal art to get comfortable with the new equipment. But I can absolutely tell you how I used to draw on my previous tablet!
It didn't have a pen or any sort of pen pressure, so I used IbisPaintX and its basic opaque brushes for both sketching and coloring. I used the same brushes for sketching, lining AND coloring, I just changed the opacity as needed. I never used any of my brushes on 100% opacity for the lineart, I just layered my lines to give them some texture. I did also make a custom fuzzy textured brush by messing with settings, but I didn't really use that for the dragon posts as far as I remember (except for the Liberated Duskcutter drawing)
As for drawing dragons specifically, I use a LOT and I mean a LOT of references for every drawing, especially for species I haven't drawn until that point. In my experience, tracing helps you get familiar with the dragon's shapes and helps to build muscle memory on the long term. Part of my process is to find good reference images, break them down into shapes by drawing on top of them, and then use those shapes sort of like building blocks to figure out a new pose that I can then refine.
The shape of the head is always the most difficult for me to get right, so I tend to focus on it even when the rest of the body might look a little wonky (don't look too closely at the toes and fingers)
I'm not very good at explaining my process, but I love answering questions, so feel free to ask for clarification as needed. I do hope this helped though! I wish you luck on your dragon drawing journey <3
#asks#httyd#how to train your dragon#dreamings#not dragon art#I do appreciate the curiosity#I did make a little tutorial/process thing at one point but didn't end up posting it#it went over 10 images and I don't use tumblr desktop so I kinda gave up on it#but I may just edit those images together to see if I can post them afterall

the way i only JUST realized that in An's "The Overflowing Feelings" card behind her isn't An's reflection no that is NAGI.....
and im pretty sure there is a bunch more symbolism in it because like. i think nagi is wearing a hospital gown in that card instead of her regular clothes but it is kinda hard to tell
sometimes i see an ask and think "i could make this so much worse" and this is one of those times.
that's not a reflection, that is straight up ghost Nagi. if you notice the grunge texture is actually overlaid over the entire illustration, not just behind the fence. it's not a mirror, it's a fence that separates the living (an) and the dead (nagi). i also like how everything except Nagi on the dead side is blurry even the plants that are right next to her. i can't give an actual explanation because annoyingly this set didn't get a blog post, but my personal interpretation of this is that it's meant to show how Nagi is still close to An even after she's gone (personally I like to connect it to An carrying her memory of Nagi in her heart becase she's clutching her shirt over her heart, but i think you could interpret it as Nagi watching over An from the spirit world too if you want).
i think it could be a hospital gown based on general appearance and the way it ties at the back, but as you said it's hard to tell. it would make some sense though since she died in hospital. but it could just be a generic black dress, since it doesn't look like the hospital clothes she wore in the story. also if you look closely you'll notice her lineart is in a white-grey color which makes her look more ghostly than An.
Also notice how all the other pillars have the red flowers on them (the ones from the gekokujo jacket). I believe these are gerberas, which are sometimes used as funeral flowers. i.e the flowers placed on the other pillars are to say goodbye, but she's actually right there with An.
i think i can still make this worse.
contrast with An's card from Vivid Old Tale. y'know, the one all about her relationship with Nagi and the first time they actually implied that Nagi's dead (they subtly hint at it in BFBY but it was far more obvious in VOT).
This set actually did get a blog post so I can go on about the symbolism. The cards in this set were based on the theme of "warmth and nostalgia", which heavily connects to the event being about An looking back at her childhood and time spent with Nagi, and how much she loves her home.
Sunflowers obviously tie in to that warmth, but they also symbolise positivity, happiness, and hope (the color yellow does as well). These connect with both her dreams in the present and memories of the past.
Also this part of the interview:
The people she loves have seen her grow up and smile compared to when she was a kid and crying after running away. Now while people she loves who have watched her grow up could be her mom or dad, or even Taiga, considering the untrained card...
The person she's smiling at is Nagi.
And that's what makes the LUTF set so fucked up because just LOOK there's so much contrast between them. Sunflowers representing VBS' hope compared to the despair in the LUTF set caused by their defeat to Taiga. The bright colors next to greyscale (and red, which has several different connotations multiple of which are applicable here), how cold the LUTF set is next to the VOT set. An holding flowers in both but in one they're flowers symbolising joy and in one they're flowers symbolising grief. The VOT set is youthful and lively but in the LUTF set everyone is angry, despairing and grieving a life lost.
The fact that the POV in An's VOT card is probably Nagi watching her all grown up (which she never got to do in reality) vs Nagi being dead and separated from An in her LUTF card, not to mention that Nagi is not watching her anymore but instead facing away because she's left An behind (but was she ever really with An in the VOT card in the first place?). An crying in both untraineds but in one she's being comforted by Nagi and in one she's crying because Nagi is gone.
In some ways it's like the VOT set is An's idealistic look at what life will be like when Nagi gets home and the LUTF set is An coming to terms with the reality.
this card fucks me up.

Commission Advice? (pls help)
Hey heyy
I wanna start doing commissions, but I've never done it before, and have no idea where to start. So I thought I'd make this post and ask any artist, that would like to share how they go about commissions, for advice.
I've summed up some of the questions that came to mind below the cut. I would want to take requests outside of Tumblr as well, just fyi. I'm well aware that most of what I ask depends on the individual artist and their works, and that there won't be a single formula to follow - I'd just like to gain a bit of perspective and see how different people go about these things, so that I can get an idea for myself.
Any helpful links to other posts or websites on this topic are much appreciated 💚
Replies to this in DMs are fine too ☺️
Questions below ⬇️
Communication?
Do you text with the client entirely through Tumblr (etc.) DMs, or do you use a different platform (like Discord, WhatsApp)?
Pricing?
My biggest issue is how much to charge for an art piece. I know it depends on multiple factors, like what type of drawing it is, is it lineart only, is it in colour, etc. Then there's also taxes. I've looked at a couple artists, but the prices vary so widely, and I have no idea where to put myself on that spectrum. I also have a huge problem knowing my worth, which definitely doesn't help.
Payment?
Which payment method do you use? My first thought was PayPal, I also read that many people use Stripe (that I never heard of before my research). And when do you ask for the transaction to be made? I've seen 50% upfront, the other 50% once it's done a lot. Some say to not give the customer the finished piece until you've received 100% of the money.
Slots?
How do you decide on how many you have available? Do have a fixed number or just take requests until you think you can't take any more?
Time?
How long does it take you to finish a request? Again, I know it depends on many many things. A couple examples would already help a lot.
Updates? Previews?
Do you give the client in-between updates on your progress? Do you send a preview before sending the finished piece? I've read that, before sending the final file, you should always have the images in low quality and with a watermark over it.
Changes?
If the client is dissatisfied with the final piece, do you allow changes? If yes, how many, where do you draw the line? Do you charge extra? Also, what do you do if the client doesn't like the entire thing?
Licensing
I absolutely suck at this, my brain just doesn't want to comprehend legal language. So most I've read on this, I still don't fully understand, but probably because I've never put it to practice. Is there a specific type of licensing you use? What do you tell your client on what they can do, but more importantly, can't do, with the art you create for them?
Final files?
In which file format do you send the finished art piece to the client? I was thinking pdf, maybe jpg and png? Also, how do you send it? In DMs? Per email?
Scams?
Also one of the more important questions for me, since I get paranoid about these things easily (and turn out to be right most of the time). Any advice on scams? I've read Instagram is filled with them, and to best avoid requests over Insta alltogether. Any experiences you've had, anything I should definitely look out for?
Any other advice?
Anything at all. I'm probably definitely overthinking this and it's most likely really not that complicated, but I'm a very anxious, insecure and paranoid person. 🙈 So I'll take any and all advice I can get.
Thank you 🤗💚

Abyss Monarch/Octopus x electric eel
Got another one done today, this is Firefly Squid Cookie
I was gonna say that this one was the first to have a “new” character at the time, aka one that only existed after I started, but no, apparently that honor goes to the request for Scorpion/Prune Juice
Though interestingly enough you can tell that this was from the beginning of the Wandercrab update because the anon isn’t sure whether the name is Abyss Monarch or Octopus, since we weren’t really sure the name situation until the second half. I also vaguely recall saying this anon had foresight since this was before abysseel blew up
Anyways sorry, let’s get into Firefly Squid herself now
So Firefly here works as the lighthouse keeper in Wandercrab, as well as generally just checking to make sure the lights work. She has a particular affinity for light, possibly due to her own bioluminescence
She’s generally a very chill lady, someone you can just talk to about your struggles while she patiently listens and gives you advice. Plenty of residents go up to her while on the job (since that’s what she’s usually doing) to do just that. She’s not one of particular high energy though, choosing to spend her off time either relaxing over a drink or taking naps
However, you should never try to approach her when there’s a particular absence of light. You may see something you’d rather wish you hadn’t…
Anyways, now let’s discuss design
So Firefly Squid’s name comes from the firefly squid itself, which I got as a suggestion. It’s a cephalopod like Abyss Monarch, and it glows like Electric Eel (or at least the Cookie himself). I also learned today that it’s apparently edible, so I guess it fits in even more with being living food
The original name I was going to use was Blue Ring, named after the blue ringed octopus, because octopus, as well as yellow and being incredibly venomous. But I got the suggestion Firefly Squid and I ended up really liking it, so I switched over
Firefly squid:

I’m especially noticing now, she looks a LOT like Abyss Monarch and not much like Electric Eel. My bad I guess. If I ever make a second one (though I don’t know how likely that is since Electric Eel fankids tend to have a VERY limited available list), I’ll make that one look a lot like Eel
She originally had hair that was more zigzaggy, but it didn’t look right to me and I eventually changed it, and now it’s almost entirely Abyss Monarch. I did at least try to make the gradient lighter at the bottom more like EE and have the yellow of the tentacles be from his yellow, but it’s not that noticeable
Her hair was also red for most of the coloring process, since that was the color I could find firefly squids
I did eventually decide to change the colors, since Abyss Monarch and Electric Eel don’t necessarily adhere to the colors of their respective animals, but I still ended up going mostly blue. I did try to hue shift it to a more purplish blue though
I was kind of just messing around with her design. I’m not really even sure what that pattern on her pants is. Yeah it looks like just a pants design, but I only decided that at the end and the shape is on the same layer as the rest of the lineart, so that was a lot of fun trying to color so it doesn’t look like that
I also feel like relatively, she looks pretty normal compared to her parents. Other than her glowing rings on her hair she doesn’t really have much going on in her design, or at least nothing out of the ordinary. She just looks normal. That’s kind of why I added the eye thing on the sketch, to maybe imply that there’s more going on with her, but that’s probably more like an in post fix
I know I spent most of this design section complaining, and while on some level, her design has issues, when I look at it without thinking about them, I really do like how she turned out
And that’s it for Firefly Squid, I hope you like her!

Hello I’m thinking on making a comic based on Jujutsu kaisen what tips do you have on making a comic and planning for it?
HOOOOOO BOY HERE WE GO
*INHALLLEEEEEE*
First and most important part of creating ANYTHING is self care
You can’t create a comic when you’re burnt out, completely busy, and emotionally exhausted.
Find a list of things that help you care for yourself.
I will beat this into the ground it may seem unrelated but if you don’t take care of yourself the comic will NEVER come to fruition.
Second, only have an update schedule if you can maintain the update schedule
Do not say you’ll put out a new update every week if you have to sacrifice an arm and a leg to do it
You’ll be suprised how kind your readers are when you tell them you’ll need more time, or need a break for a little while.
Third, know your story
You have to know the plot points of your story BEFORE you start drawing. I keep a rough script to look at, you can add little things as you go, but if you have no idea where the story’s going, it gets REALLY stressful really fast
Fourth, I like to sketch the whole update
then once that’s done I can add speech bubbles, lineart and color etc, because it’d be awful if you wanted to change something but the panel before was already done and the effort to change it would be just so much more difficult.
And lastly but not least, keep a color pallete that’s easily importable, saves so much time, this can also be a reference page, but it prevents the colors changing over time because of lighting and such
Ex:
#also @ me! when it’s started I love to boost new creators!!!#art#my art#comic#comic advice#and you know I don’t say this to a lot of people but really think if you want to make a fan comic rather than an original#it’s so frustrating when people can’t just pick up and read your work they have to consume another kind of media to read it

Greetings, fellow Jamil enjoyer ✨️ I'd love to hear what's your story behind rediscovering that enthusiasm to make personal art again? Well basically, anything you'd like to share further about your creative journey. You caught my attention when you said you were feeling lost for years, because that coincidentally describes my predicament with digital art right now! 😅 Anyway, all the best with your drawing, and may your passion continue to motivate you to create to your heart's content! 🌻✨️
I nvr expected anyone to be interested in my story😳
Well, to put it simple, I started feeling lost around the time when I started work as a junior concept artist that once told my boss, "One day I want to be involved in anime-styled projects!"
↓
That day haven't come yet. Instead, I keep getting jobs that I don't enjoy cuz I'm too bad at it.
I felt like shit cuz, imo, I keep disappointing ppl.
I felt like trash compared to other artists.
I felt like I was wasting time if I wasn't practicing color & lighting.
I felt ashamed of my personal artstyle cuz it's no use in my current job.
I stopped drawing in my free time cuz after stopping myself from drawing what I like, I didn’t know what to draw anymore.
I was hiding all my likings in weeb shit too cuz at this point I thought I was a embarrassment. (I nvr decorated my desk either.)
↓
Things started to change when I was given time and chance to do a small anime-styled portfolio project with a colleague. It’s like leaving a testament to whoever discovers this project, telling them that yes, someone is dead ass serious about anime style.
After that, I took a long break from my company. Staying home, I'm like, "That last portfolio I did I love it so much, I want to do it again"
"Fk it, now no one can judge me imma draw what I want. I will use my best skills even if companies may not need it."
Did some character design & fanart in free time, showing more anime-styled works on ArtStation.
"Instead of pushing everything to average, imma push what already had best in me to 100, so ppl see me, they can see what I’m best at, not just someone average. I want ppl to see that 0.0001% rare job they will immediately think of me."
"I should be proud of my art more to make a career out of it."
Self love, embrace more of my likings by decorating my room with my own art, more pkm & twst merch right👏 on👏 the👏 table👏 not in the drawer anymore.
↓
Finally, time has come. Got a great opportunity. Found back confidence, went back to company to start working on it (this time my office desk is decor with pkm 🥰).
It was super hard & stressful as fk, but I never felt this alive before, it feels good to get feedback on something u truly want to improve. 1 compliment can make me go "I can do this, I still have way more to go."
At the same time, double hair down Jamil has dropped & I'm feeling myself to draw in free time again. Now, every morning if nothing to rush, I will arrive early at office & draw personal art, which is most of the recent drawings u guys are seeing right now.
That's all of my story✨☝️
In short, the main reason me feeling lost years ago is because I keep doing jobs I don't enjoy & I thought my personal artstyle is worthless to my job. I also keep comparing my weakest point to other artists' strongest point (which is a no no)
The key that get me back to personal art again is finding self confidence by knowing what's the best in my style, embrace it, and starting self love.
"I only draw personal art for myself, not to impress anyone. I enjoy my art more than anyone. Even if no one ask for this I still had fun drawing this." Remember this!✨
Moral of story is keep drawing in the way you truly desire, especially in your free time. It's the only way u can "revenge" on ur current state. If you have no drawing intention, how bout starting off finding artstyle goals on Pinterest? Color goals✨ shape & lineart goals✨design goals✨ Discover good arts that makes you jealous & go " That's so cool I want to do this too!"
The most important thing is, not every art pieces need to hit everything perfectly. Monday u can do 1 piece focus on shapes. Tuesday u can do another 1 piece focus on color. Wednesday anatomy. Thursday lighting. Let 1 subject become the main focus. It's ok to hit only 1 subject perfectly. Let that 1 become the strongest point in this drawing is enough.
Oh gosh this is getting too long.
I hope you enjoy drawing again. Wish you an amazing new year☺️

HOLY SHIT HERE WE GO !!!! somewhat world building dump as the prologue.
Chapter one will be longer and in parts, and will involve exploring Link's current life, more world building, and also !! HIS DAD !!
more rambling below;
So in case it wasn't obvious the whole "you'll die if the gem is broken" isn't TECHNICALLY true. no one's ever actually had the gem break while bound to it, so the thought that you'll die is just an assumption based on like... well. YOUR SOUL IS IN THAT. and it's been passed down as fact rather than theory.
the gem will get broken at the end of chapter one, leading to Link's soul being torn into four pieces. This technically kills Link which is why I do want to spend time going over his current place in life in chapter 1 before the DeathTM :3
also worth noting; they're young adults ! Link has no plans to go to college and is kind of a mess right now, Zelda rather than being any kind of princess is from a family with spiritual importance- ofc being taking care of the force gem. it's been a while since a hero had to be chosen !!
also, all the maidens are being given actual names, chosen after gemstones instead of colours because like,,, I mean, blue maiden is the most important one here, I can't really call her Blue lol.
I DUNNO HOW FAST UPDATES WILL BE, I wanna be careful to not burn myself out, so we'll see how it goes :3 I might post 3 or so pages at once per update instead of 9 each time aha;;
I hope this is interesting !! I'm really excited to tell the story I wrote for this AU and I hope you guys will enjoy the ride <3
consider this some exposition combined with experimenting with the comic process because this is the first time I've actually finished a comic that's longer than 1 page and it probably shows. I'll be forced to make it more interesting once I get to the action stuff don't worry XD I'll try to get better at making the talking stuff look interesting over time .. AND YOU CAN SEE HOW INCONSISTENT MY ART IS WAAH.
I ended up changing line thickness after 3 pages bc I realised I was going too thin and I was never going to finish it if I kept w/ it because I haaate doing thin lineart...

I have bad news guys...
I just now realized that even if i finish all the frames i can't finish animatic bc of editing until i get a new phone 🤡 ( which was supposed to be 2 weeks ago :D) or i magically try to fix up something (40%)
I do have a plan for a new dish i can make in the meantime ;)
Bear with me 😭
I give you this 🤲🏻
A little spoiler even though i said imma keep this animatic a surprise but u can't even tell what this is so it's ok . Hm what is he looking at🤔 Guess we'll never know
I love how the lineart turned out but i hate how i colored it and i have 3 of them frames( i'm redoing it all 😭) I going in blind on the damn digital art again
The ending is gonna hit hard 🗣

Until i come back again 💚

How to do Q-Lia/Kamio Japan fanart like you? :3
omg ty for asking :3 tis actually super easy my friend!!! this is basically what many of the oldschool kawaii adoptable makers wld do (so pwease dont get mad at me for tracing T_T i can often tell exactly what memo theyd used lol). i use paint.net cuz its super duper simple n if i ever need to do something more specific like blurring (not v applicable to pixeling) i jst open clip studio paint for a minute. its much preferable to me to do most my drawing on paint thx to the super simple ui ^_^ this method is only for official art never trace over original art of course!!! anyway i start with a memosheet that ill brighten n desaturate like this. then on a new layer i trace the lineart
this is optional if u dont have super duper bad tremors like moi, but i make lines exclusively with the curve tool! (1px with aliasing off) its probably quicker if u can jst do it by hand, but i must use my workaround. another tip for my tremor bros is turning ur mouse sensitivity all the way down. i keep it pretty low all of the time n just got used to it but u can turn it back up after ur finished. thats how i manage to color nicely :3
as for coloing i rly dont have much advice, i just keep the original memo at a glance to reference. one cool thing u can do is go to make ur subject super tiny then going to effects>color>quantize, this will make it way easier to colorpick n have a consistant palette!!!
this is my litte tremor friendly shading hack, turning aliasing back on, making the brush huge n using just the edges of it to shade specific sections that ill select with the wand c: if this is actually a hack or jst a regular method of shading idk i dont watch art tutorials myself x3
if anyone uses this tutorial pweeeeeeeaaase lemme kno so i can see ur art cuz i looooooooove these stationery characters to death n love art based off of thm ^_^
